Is your character capable of hating someone? If so, is there someone they hate? What would drive them to hate someone? If not, why?

oooooh, this is a very good question~

for John, it takes a lot for him to hate someone. hate’s a very strong thing for him to feel. that said, there was a period that he hated his fraternal grandparents (and by proxy, the whole side); the reason being that they really just abandoned them after his father’s funeral -- about a year and a half after his brother’s funeral. The bare minimum of support he and his Noelle (his mother) got from them, how they treated Noelle in general, the blaming, and other things happening... he resented them.

He still does to this day, and honestly, John won’t ever forgive them. I don’t think John will flat out say it, but his actions towards his fraternal grandparents says it all. (He loves his maternal grandparents though.)

Brian definitely hates his family. To say they treated him like dirt is a severe understatement. I mean, they disowned him when he was 12, then sent him to live with an abusive aunt (he left when he was 16). His hate towards them is very cold and maybe cruel, but rarely if at all, he ever thinks about them. They could be dying in the worst possible way, and he wouldn’t care at all; he’ll celebrate it even. Brian’s got every right to hate them (and he has said this to John and John Gets It, and also has seen for himself regarding Brian’s aunt.)

Dancer madam Wen has been living rent free in my head since the other day and I have some ideas I wanna share

She actually wasn't a cultivator, nor was she from a noble family, she was part of a traveling troupe of artists (dancers, musicians, singers, acrobats, actors... Etc) that were hired by the wens to entertain their guests in a cultivation conference. In said conference she awes the audience and steals WRH's heart with her performance

WRH ends up exclusively hiring the whole troupe just so she won't leave nightless city once the conference is over

When WRH proposes and she accepts, the whole cultivation world is in shock (and a lot of maidens are in tears too, since I'm sure WRH was in the top 3 most saught after bachelors in his generation) obviously not everyone thinks it's a good match, the Wen elders know better than to oppose their sect leader over something he set his mind to do (opposition would only make him want it more in fact) meanwhile everyone else is gossiping how a mere commoner managed to bag the leader of qishan wen and most powerful man alive. Ofc a lot of the gossip is mean and vile, especially the things spread by the jins (which has nothing to do with the time WRH threatened to castrate JGS when the latter tried to get his hands on madam Wen) JGS even whispers to anyone who would listen that sect leader wen must've been bewitched and put under a dark spell or completely taken leave of his senses to make such a "ridiculous" decision

Meanwhile the pair are in their own bubble of happiness and are ignoring all the gossip and opposi and they get married soon after in a grand ceremony in total wen fashion

WRH's and Madam Wen's marriage is considered by many THE scandalous marriage of the decade at least until qingheng jun' sudden marriage and seclusion become the new talk of town

I love traveling troupe dancer Madam Wen, Anon! This is very romantic and not only do I agree that most people wouldn't think it was a good match, because absolutely yes to top ranked bachlor Wen RuoHan, I'd go so far as to say that all the other sects would HATE it! Which means it's perfect!

There is that one quote I always think about, "Wen Qing was one of the Wen Sect's people whose way of doing things was actually normal" (ch 60) and like, Wen RuoHan going against social norms like this fits with that so well. We have sects like the Lan with their social rules of who they are allowed to interact with and how to feel and how to behave and individuals like Jin GuangShan who have their public/private faces, and yet all of them are like Yikes! about Wen RuoHan marrying an entertainer!

Thank goodness Jin GuangShan is too much of a coward when it comes to Wen RuoHan so Madam Wen is safe lol (Although drunk Jin GuangShan...) I can imagine him making eyes at her at the conference she was hired for before she stole Wen RuoHan's heart. Maybe he tried to make advances that were rebuked (or maybe Wen RuoHan was in the right place, right time to end it as you mentioned~), but now he is drinking the vinegar because not only did he lose a beauty but also because Wen RuoHan gets to do whatever he wants!

And that's because Wen RuoHan doesn't care about his reputation. Loved by insiders and glowered upon by outsiders? No problem! He has a very wonderful and talented wife at his side now and they are in love, your honor <3

QingHeng-jun's marriage brings up a really interesting consideration! Sect Leader Lan elopes with mystery woman and immediately goes into seclusion. Very scandalous and, worse, insulting to Sect Leader Wen and Madam Wen, who were not invited to the wedding!

Now on the one hand we have Madam Yu and Madam Jin who are childhood BFFs and are none too gracious to those who are nosing about above their station. On the other hand, we have Madam and Madam Lan, who I headcanon as a woman from Gusu who was also not a cultivator. Suffice to say, Madam Wen needs friends in the cultivation world! So Madam Wen goes to Cloud Recesses to visit her after the wedding. (She even brings a very nice and appropriate gift.)

Not only is Madam Wen told she can't enter through the front gate--the Lan Sect is segregated and the women have to enter the back way to avoid mingling with the men--but Madam Lan is also unable to see her? And will never be able to see her...?

Madam Wen keeps the worse of this visit to herself. She isn't about to start problems with the Lan after seeing how her presence caused some problems with the Jin. She goes back to Wen RuoHan to be lovey dovey in his arms and cherish how the Wen Sect accepted her.

Except she can't keep it a secret from everyone forever...

Twenty years later, Wen Xu comes knocking on the front gate of Cloud Recesses (because unlike his mother, he is allowed) and asks to see QingHeng-jun...
