Bryant looked in the mirror for the hundredth time. He turned from side to side and turned around, looking over his shoulder to see his back side. He felt as though something was wrong with his attire. Or rather something was missing.
“Would you stop?” asked Celestine as she stood next to him.
She looked at their reflection and smiled. They were looking very elegant and amazing. Part of her wanted to stay behind in the Normandy but as soon as she heard Gus was going, she wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to dance with him.
“Something is off,” he whined.
“Nothing is off,” she sighed as she gently nudged him to face her so she could fix the bow tie. “You aren’t getting married, you know. It’s only for intel.”
Bryant scowled at that.
“Not married, yet anyway,” she grinned.
Bryant turned beet red. His eyes glassed over at the mere thought of having his dream come true. To marry her. To hold her, have her for all eternity.
He sighed, shaking the perfect couple image from his mind. It wasn’t going to happen. Probably never. It was going to be a dream. And that was the extent of it.
“Chin up, mi cielo. You will get her heart one day,” Celestine tried to cheer him up.
Bryant smiled.
“Well, how do I look?” she asked of him as she twirled around for him to check.
Her dress was tight fit on her. The navy blue with gold embroidery really brought out her eyes. Her sun kissed skin showed in certain areas. It was a formal dress with a sexy flare. Just like her to pull it off.
He grabbed her hand and intertwined their fingers together, “gorgeous as always.”
She giggled.
“I did pick out the outfit. So of course you will look gorgeous!” Bryant grinned.
Celestine smacked his chest with her free hand. She laughed as Bryant guided her towards the elevator to head to the CIC.
Once they stepped out of the elevator, Celestine’s eyes zeroed in on Gus. He was hunched over a nearby console, muttering to himself.
His navy blue suit he wore looked fantastic on him. It seems they decided to match tonight.
It didn’t take long for Gus to look in her direction. He did a double take and swallowed hard. His heart hammering in his chest. His palms were suddenly sweaty. He blew a breath as he turned fully to look at her. To admire her beauty. And Celestine didn’t hold back on her checking out Gus.
Bryant cleared his throat as he nudged Celestine to walk.
“You look handsome, Gus,” Celestine smiled sweetly at him to make him feel comfortable.
He nodded, “thanks. You too.” It took a moment for Gus to register what he had said as Celestine raised an eyebrow in amusement. “I mean, you look –”
“I know, Gus. Thank you,” appreciated Celestine with a nod. She can see that Gus didn’t have much experience with women. The way he tensed a bit and the way he looked at anywhere but at her. The way he softly muttered to himself.
It was cute. Made her feel giddy.
Bryant clapped once and rubbed his hands, excited to get going.
“Where is KeeKee?” he asked as he looked around the CIC.
“She will join you later,” came Kasumi’s voice followed by a grunt.
“Ok then. Sly?”
“Yes?”
Bryant whirled around and his heart stopped. Celestine gasped in delight. Sly appeared in front of them wearing dark brown leather pants with a dark brown leather jacket that twisted and flared around her neck. Underneath she had a muted brown dress and the look was finished with dark brown boots.
“Sly! You look amazing!” gushed Celestine.
Sly chuckled, “thank you. Should we get going?”
“Wait,” paused Bryant. “Where is, Jess?”
“She is waiting for you outside. We should get going,” advised Gus as he gestured for Celestine to walk ahead of him, like the gentleman he was.
“Finally!”
Everyone turned to the voice.
“Can we go now?”
“Well, someone is looking cute,” commented Celestine.
Jess laughed, “thanks. Took me a while to find a dress I like that was last minute.”
Jess looked herself over, dusting areas where she saw lint. She wore a cropped navy blue dress. The arms and top of her chest were adorned in lace. The rest of her dress hugged her curves and the dress flared around her at the bottom. It was very beautiful.
“Kasumi will be joining us later with KeeKee. We should get moving.”
“Right. I’m going alone,” said Jess as she walked towards her transport car.
“Sly?” gestured Bryant with his arm for her to loop her arm through.
As she accepted his hand they went to their transported car.
“Let’s go,” said Gus as he nodded in the direction of their transport car.
Kasumi briefed them on their target and her goal to obtain the important box which was all agreed that Jess was best for the job as she was silent, agile and quick on her feet. Minimal detection was what Kasumi needed and Jess was perfect for the job. Everyone else had to acquire intel in how to get pass the security system.
Each one of them introduced themselves and exhaled a deep breath. It was going to be a long night. As they all looked around, they had to be sure to wear their best fake smiles as to not arouse suspicion.
The man of the hour wasn’t impressive. How someone like him became rich and well known underground was beyond them.
“What is the first step?” asked Bryant as they all walked around, splitting up and keeping an ear to the ground.
“I am almost there. I need a visual on what I am dealing with,” said Kasumi through the earpiece.
“On it.”
Bryant smiled and nodded to a few people. His smile fell when he had a moment to look around, trying to find what that place was.
“Look through the window,” came in Sly’s whisper as she passed him with champagne in hand.
“I see stairs,” came in Celestine’s voice as she didn’t see where she was going and almost collided with Gus had he not been astute of his surroundings.
“Sorry Gus,” Celestine whispered as she watched Bryant move towards the stairs.
“There is a guard near the entrance to the bedroom. I can’t go in.”
“Come on,” said Celestine as she grabbed Gus’ hand and dragged him to the center of the place.
Gus swallowed, “I don’t dance,” he murmured to her as quietly as possible. His cheeks began to have a red tint and Celestine couldn’t help the giggle that came from her.
“Just follow me,” she whispered as she placed his hand on her waist and held his other and began to slowly sway back and forth and side to side to the slow music.
Those in attendance wanted to participate in dancing too, which gave Bryant and Jess the opportunity to go down the stairs.
“Well?” Kasumi asked.
“Its voice password protected, fingerprint protected and it has a damn barrier,” relaid Bryant as he gave a hand signal for Jess to stay put.
“We are outside,” said Kasumi.
“Stay here,” he ordered of Jess.
Jess nodded and waited out of sight to see what Kasumi could do with the impenetrable vault door.
Bryant heard soft tapping of heels as he quietly made his way back to the party. A hand halted him. He didn’t mind the distraction, even though he had to see if Akeelah was also here.
“Don’t rush in so quickly,” advised Sly as she got in position with Bryant to dance.
***
“Do I really need to wear this!” Akeelah hissed to Kasumi.
Kasumi hummed in response, her eyes alert.
“You would look out of place with just a pantsuit. Besides it’s only for a few hours. You’ll live.”
Akeelah cursed under her breath.
“You look stunning!” gushed Kasumi, “you should wear stuff like this more often.”
Akeelah gave her a look that made Kasumi giggle and look ahead.
***
“You are doing amazing well for someone who claims not to dance,” complimented Celestine as Gus twirled her out.
“I don’t dance. I am learning however,” he paused. “It’s quite interesting.”
Celestine laughed as they turned, her eye caught something gold. She misstepped on purpose to admire the beauty that walked in flustered.
“I can’t go in,” whined Kasumi.
Bryant sighed and with a nod in her direction, twirled Sly out, leaving him alone as she quickly scanned the guards and their post.
“What do you mean you can’t come in?”
“Hock wouldn’t let me in.”
Bryant turned just in time to see Akeelah walk in and his breath was taken away. She might as well have punched him the way Bryant just dropped his jaw.
Akeelah walked in looking around. Her sunset eyes narrowed, guard up. She felt naked without any armor. Eyes were on her as she walked in. She hated that.
Bryant shook out his stupor and walked quickly to her. A grin that could blind the sun itself was the only thing Akeelah saw. She couldn’t contain her eyeroll of annoyance.
“You look incredible in that,” complimented Bryant as he approached her.
Akeelah wore a mute golden short dress. It hugged her body very nicely. Showing off her toned arms and legs. Bryant couldn’t stop admiring her feminine side. She was so beautiful with the smokey natural eye shadow that made her eyes glitter and shimmer. Her curly hair nice and slightly messy.
Celestine couldn’t help the smile that appeared. She wanted them together. She was shipping them so hard in her heart. But Akeelah wasn’t like the other women he has been with. No. This was a challenge in and of itself. And Celestine was very ready to watch her brother for once, try hard to get something instead of something coming to him.
The song ended and everyone clapped. Soon everyone started to talk all at once in quiet chatter, glasses clinked as some cheered.
“I don’t need to be here,” seethe Akeelah quietly as she looked past him to analyze the guests around.
They were surrounded by the worst of the worst after all.
“The more people on board, the better of our success. Besides, Kasumi is giving her life for this mission. The least we can do is help her out,” smiled Bryant as extended his hand for her to take.
Akeelah nudged him out of the way. She didn’t need to be reminded, nor did she want to take his hand anyway. The less he was near the better her evening might be.
Bryant curled his hand into a soft fist as it fell to his side. He inhaled, closing his eyes.
“Come to the vault door,” came in Jess’ voice.
He nodded, “on my way.”
He did an about face and walked towards where Kasumi and Jess were waiting for him.
***
“So?”
“This is very nice. You didn’t do it justice when you described it,” said Kasumi entertained.
Bryant and Jess walked in. She scanned the statue to make sure her weapons and armor were in there.
Bryant paused to stare at Saren’s golden statue. He narrowed his eyes and Jess saw the darkened look he gave the statue. She raised an eyebrow as she looked at the statue too. She remembered Saren. Many things went wrong that day but they still came out victorious.
Bryant however, the look. It made her feel a bit uneasy. It’s like it brought him great pain. His eyes haunted.
“Password protected voice lock. Kinetic barrier, DNA scanner – looks like an EX-700 series. Everything a vault needs to be impenetrable.”
Bryant snorted a laugh, “don’t tell me the best thief in the business can’t find a solution.”
Kasumi smiled, “please. Remember who you are talk to.”
She turned around and pointed to the devices, “we’ll need to get a voice sample for the voice lock. Someone will have to go chat up Hock for that and we’ll have to find a password, too.”
“What about the DNA scanner?” asked Jess.
“Child’s play. There should be plenty of DNA samples in Hock’s private quarters.”
Kasumi turned around with a sway of her hips, “and the barrier? Cut the power. Never fails… if we can find it.”
Kasumi stared at the barrier for a moment longer than she should have, “Keiji could get through a system like this in his sleep. And i’m better,” she nodded as she turned around. “Let’s get to it,” she said as she activated her cloak and disappeared.
***
Celestine looked towards the door that had a big red square and a guard standing in front of it.
“I can get the DNA samples,” she said as she walked to Gus.
He was currently getting them drinks to hydrate from the dance they had earlier. He turned around and almost spilled the cups had Celestine not grabbed his hands to steady himself.
“Come with me.”
He nodded without another word as she grabbed her drink from his hand and gestured for him to follow.
Throwing the rest in a plant she turned to Gus with a seductive smile. He didn’t like the way she was looking at him. It sent a shiver down his spine and sent his senses on high alert.
Celestine’s cold hands cupped his face, watching as his steel blue eyes narrowed trying to see where she was going with this even though his the way his heart practically was ready to jump out his check gave him a clue. However she didn’t give him enough time to think about it as she pulled him to her for a kiss.
Gus’ drink fell out of his hand, the liquid spilling onto what must be an expensive rug as she pinned him to the nearby bookshelf.
She moaned loudly for the guard to hear.
Gus’s mind clouded. His hands were quick to be placed on her lower back, pulling her flush to him.
Fire ignited within her where his fingers touched. For a moment she forgot that they were at a formal party surrounded by notorious leaders. Her breath heavy with his as they both tried to find air but neither surrendering the other lips to do so.
The guard scowled in their direction and tried his hardest to ignore them as they were getting closer, each taking turns to pin the other on the wall. He finally has enough of hearing lips smacking and moaning that he coughed and walked away.
Celestine was quick to push Gus only slightly to look at the door. Her eyes moved as though she was reading something. In fact she was hacking the door to get in. With a swish, the door opened and she pulled a breathless, blushing Gus into the room with her, the door closing shut, turning red to keep appearances.
She looked at him with an apologetic smile. Her heart hammering in her chest.
‘That was exciting!’
Red lipstick was smudged in the corner of his lips. She licked her thumb and proceeded to wipe away the lipstick off of his lips.
“I wondered what your lips tasted like,” admitted Celestine with a click of her tongue. “Now I know,” she winked at him.
Gus’ mind was slowly coming back from the high it was in. He was still breathing pretty hard but with a clear of his throat he nodded. Unable to really add anything to that.
“Come on, Mr knight in shining armor. We have work to do,” she gestured with her head, turning around and went up the stairs.
Gus nodded, not really getting why she called him as such. He cleared his throat one last time and readjusted his attire, making sure to keep the wrinkling to a minimum.
***
“See anything?” asked Kasumi as she got in position with Sly, both nodding ready.
“Not yet,” answered Celestine as she looked around. Her eyes began to scan a nearby plant. “Nothing on the plant.”
“It’s a plant,” Kasumi laughed.
***
The door opened and Sly disappeared, as the guards both took out their weapons. Neither were able to check out who it was as they were dispatched quickly. Sly hoped that no one heard the gunshot that went off.
“We should get silencers for these pistols,” she commented as she placed her carnifex pistol back on its holster insider her jacket.
“I will see what I can come up with,” commented Bryant as he followed his omni tool to find the source of electricity.
“I found it,” said Jess as she smiled to the guest who were nearby. She stood by the displayed fireplace.
“Coming to you now,” said Bryant as she greeted a few people nearby.
“What’s your read on that Archangel guy?”
Jess’ ears perked up at that. Narrowing her eyes to the two asari sitting on an old man’s lap.
“I hear he’s dead. Or gone, or something. Good riddance, I say,” chucked the old man.
Jess smirked at that. The irony that went with that comment.
‘If only they knew.’
“Something funny?” he whispered as he powered up his omni tool to hack into the system.
“These people. Funny how karma works,” she laughed.
“You mean the Archangel comment?”
Jess nodded with a sly smile.
Bryant choked on a chuckle, coughing instead.
“Watch my back,” he commanded with a shake of his head.
Jess nodded with a grin. She was definitely enjoying herself as she picked up her glass of wine and began to take small sips, enjoying the fruity taste. She looked at her glass and nodded enthusiastically.
‘I definitely need to add this to my wine collection.’
“Got the power,” said Bryant as he was able to hack it and power it down.
“Ok. We got the password thanks to Sly’s keen eyes.”
“It was nothing,” Sly dismissed the compliment with a wave of her hand.
“Cele?”
***
“Scanning the fireplace,” she answered. “Gus?”
“I am scanning the weapons rack.”
“Careful with those. The cleaners don’t dare touch treasures like those,” cautioned Kasumi.
“We can get skin cells from the dust though,” said Celestine as she zeroed in on some unclean surface.
***
“We need someone to talk to him to get the voice sample,” informed Kasumi.
“I can do that,” said Akeelah as she drank the last of her champagne cup and walked towards him.
“Wait. I will do it!” said Bryant as he found Hock.
He was too late as he spotted Akeelah chatting him up.
Her smile, although fake, made his blood suddenly boil. His biotics softly flared. Hock made a big speech that he didn’t hear. He could only see red.
Akeelah.
Akeelah was smiling to another guy. Talking to him without any restraint. All comfortable. Calm. Her eyes sparkled with interest.
‘It’s all an illusion,’ his mind tried to reason.
***
“Be calm, mi Cielo,” broke through Celestine. “She is doing her job.”
Celestine could already feel his rising tension.
“Gus, we have to hurry. I have to get out there.”
“Calm yourself, Celestine. He is fine. Trust him,” reassured Gus as he scanned the bed.
“I do trust him. It’s his emotions I don’t trust,” she sighed. She raised an eyebrow as she watched him scan the bed. She smiled playfully as she went to the other side of the bed and laid on it stopping him in his tracks.
“Celestine,” Gus scowled.
“What?” she asked innocently.
“Didn’t you just say we need to hurry?”
“I was only wondering what you are scanning,” she shrugged.
Gus gave her a look that said he didn’t believe her.
“Seriously. It’s a bed anyway. Freshly clean.”
She got up from the bed and scanned the rest of the resting area. The sofa was clean, nothing on the windows or the bookshelf. And dead skins cells wasn’t enough to get a print for the scanner.
“The keyboard is clean,” sighed Gus in annoyance.
Celestine smiled, “calm yourself, Gus. I’m sure we missed something.”
She opened a drawer and in it was a datapad.
“Jackpot.”
Gus was able to scan the keypad on the datapad and able to record the fingerprints to be enough for the DNA scanner.
“We should exist through the window,” advised Celestine as she looked down the window.
“Looks like there are guards. I’m going first,” he said as he unhooked his pistol from inside his blazer and lifted a leg to over the rail.
“You just wanna see up my dress,” Celestine smirked.
Gus blushed at that.
“You are cute when you blush. Now be careful, shy guy.”
Gus nodded and jumped down.
Celestine inhaled and ran, jumping out the window, her biotics flaring to land softly onto the ground. Gus was surprised to see her next to him in a blink of an eye.
She took out some knives from her belt garter on her thigh, which Gus looked away.
“I don’t mind you looking,” Celestine winked. “You can see all you want.”
Gus choked as he swallowed hard alerting the nearby guards.
Celestine threw her knives into the soft spot of their armor and with a gurgle down they went. Gus never had to fire a bullet.
“We are coming back to the party but we need a distraction as to not alert people to our presence,” advised Celestine as both Gus and her waited near the balcony area.
“Ruffle him up and come up, making it seen as though you had sex or something,” said Kasumi.
Celestine giggled at that. Poor Gus. He had so much to put up with today.
He sighed as he untucked his shirt and ruffled his hair. Celestine fluffed her hair and walked up the box and went to the balcony, wiping the corner of her lips and adjusting her dress as people looked at her. Gus just re-tucked in his shirt while muttering to himself. He couldn’t wait to just go back to the ship and find solitude.
Celestine fought the urge to laugh at the whispers already going around. This party was getting good.
“Ok we got what we need,” said Kasumi, “I will wait for you Jess at the vault door.”
“Gotcha.”
Jess carefully made her way to Celestine and Gus and grabbed the datapad that Gus gave to her on her way past. It didn’t go unnoticed by him the teasing smirk that Jess gave him. Gus gave her a look that must have said it all as Jess laughed, shaking her head and going down the stairs.
Another song played and Celestine looked around for Bryant.
“I’m sure he is fine. Want to dance? We can’t let Hock out of this place,” advised Gus as he extended his hand for Celestine to take.
She sighed. She was worried but Gus was right. She smiled at him and nodded, taking his hand and both walked towards the center of the place. They started to dance slowly swaying side to side.
***
With the mission almost over, she really didn’t need to stay here anymore. So she looked around as she turned around and ran into Bryant. His eyes a little sad as he looked into her sunset eyes. She felt a little uncomfortable at the way he was staring at her. It was like his sky blue eyes were piercing her very soul. Finding answers to secrets long buried.
“Want to dance?” asked Bryant as he extended his hand for her to take.
Akeelah scowled at him, “no. I’m going back to the ship to take this –” she paused as she looked at herself, “this dress off.”
She walked passed him as the door opened and out she stepped. The evening breeze felt good on her skin. She inhaled deeply. Finally feeling free from that ordeal. As she took the last step to be on solid ground, she felt someone grab her arm.
She turned to give the person a piece of her mind when warm hands cupped her face and lips were on hers. Her eyes widen as she tried to comprehend what just happened as angry sky blue eyes looked at her. With a small wet smack Bryant let her go. Both breathless as they stared at each other. Anger coursed through her veins and next thing she knew her knuckles collided with his chin.
Bryant recoiled. This time it was different than the other times she punch him. This time, he tasted blood.
Without another word Akeelah turned around and walked faster to her car. Bryant smiled. He didn’t know what else to do. He probably lost all chances to win her heart.
“Guess it was never meant to be then,” he whispered as he spit out blood nearby.
He kicked a rock and sat on the stairs looking defeated as he stared at the approaching sunset.
“I think you overdid it.”
Bryant chuckled, “I blew it.”
Sly dusted her hands and sat a few paces away from him.
“Akeelah doesn’t like intrusiveness,” Sly began. “She is very independent. Reserved. Quiet. You have to take this into consideration,” she tilted her head to the side as she lit a cigarillo.
“You too?” Bryant groaned as he make a disgusted face.
“Yep.”
She blew a breath after inhaling the cigarillo.
“The point is, you are too much. Go back a bit. Give her space,” she concluded with a tap to her cigarillo.
Bryant mused over what she had said. As a couple were existing the building, his ears perked at the waltz playing within the building. He turned around and saw that in the center Celestine and Gus were dancing. The soft light of the dance floor made them sparkle. Like a fairy tale coming true for them as Celestine and Gus chatted. She giggled and Gus just raised an eyebrow. Smiling enthusiastically at what she had said.
His heart was a bit conflicted. In part he was happy. But in another he worried for her. Did she even know what she was doing? Was she ready? And then he turned to look at his hands. The punch, her surprised eyes, the anger.
“Give her space huh?”
He turned to look at Sly only to find that he was alone on the stairs.
He sighed and got up, dusting himself off, he began to walk back in. With a breath he smiled as she approached Celestine and Gus. Whenever he needed someone to help him sort things out, she was always there.
****
“If you add eezo to that, it should stabilize it.”
“Hmm. Maybe if I did reprogrammed it with those numbers you just gave me, it could work.”
“Let me know how that goes.”
“May I cut in?” asked Bryant as he looked at Gus and Celestine.
“Of course,” said Gus as he handed Celestine’s hand to Bryant’s outstretched one.
The two men nodded as Gus left, Bryant placed his hand on her waist and lead this time, instead of her.
“What’s up? You seem stressed.”
“I kissed her and I got punched.”
Celestine’s eyes widen. There was no humor in his voice this time. Her eyes narrowed as her eyes scanned his face and there she saw a small cut.
Her body tensed.
“It’s ok. Not her fault. It was all me,” reassured Bryant. The very last thing he wanted was to have both women fighting. Especially over something stupid he did.
“I shouldn’t have overstepped but I couldn’t control it this time, Celestine. I was angry. I didn’t know what to do? She was so calm with Hock. I want to pummel him to the ground,” he confessed.
Celestine only listened as Bryant’s grip on her waist and hand tighten. It didn’t hurt her. But she could tell this greatly displeased him.
“Primero, calmate,” she advised.
She swayed her hips to signal to him that his grip was tightening.
“Perdoname. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“No need. I can understand that. But you have to understand that this isn’t the right behavior. From the start I have told you not to do this,” she reminded him.
“Right behavior?”
Celestine rolled her eyes, “let’s be real, Bryant. Since you were in middle school, every girl are always throwing themselves at you. Same with women now a days. But the one woman who you are head over heels for, gives you the cold shoulder, you don’t know what to do? Are you kidding me?”
Bryant blushed. He now had to really think about his past and as he remembered his conquests, relationships, lovers, it was pretty much all the time. One smirk, smile or joke and they all melted like puddle. Relationships didn’t last long because there was nothing to make it exciting. But Akeelah. Akeelah turned his entire world upside down. She was the complete opposite. He was so used to getting things his way that he actually didn’t think about doing this her way. He never had to change much because everything was pretty much the same.
“I know you are stubborn. More stubborn than a mule, but for fucks spirits sake! Wake up! She isn’t like them. She is special. And requires a special touch. Every woman and man has their way to get into their hearts. We are all different.”
“Getting into their hearts huh? Like you with Gus?” he smirked with a wiggle of his eyebrows.
Of course it was a jest. But the look Celestine gave him… it said that she wasn’t taking his joke.
“De qué demonios estás hablando?”
“Oh come on. Don’t think I don’t see it. You are in love with him.”
Celestine stopped midway from getting twirled by Bryant. She looked at him as if she had shot him. He might as well have.
“I’m sorry Geai Bleu. I didn’t mean to –”
“No. It’s alright.”
She looked around the room and suddenly felt claustrophobic.
“I need air,” she rushed, walking away from him and towards the balcony.
“Geai Bleu i’m sorry. I didn’t mean to bring him up. It was only a joke,” Bryant apologized profusely. It seems nothing was going right today.
“No, Bryant,” she paused as she looked at the sunset. “I just… I need a moment.”
“Hock is moving, Bryant. We need to stall him.”
“On it.”
“Go. I will be right here.”
Bryant sighed deeply as he placed a hand on her shoulder and squeezed gently. She nodded and turned to him. She smiled reassuringly. She was going to be ok. He nodded, acknowledging the look and walked away quickly.
He walked up to Gus, “I need you to stay here with her,” he ordered of him.
Gus nodded, “understood. Be careful.”
“Thanks man.”
Gus looked over to where Celestine was currently standing. He slowly walked to her location, watching as she bent to take off her shoes and with a little push of her arm, she was sitting on the rail of the balcony. She placed her heels next to her, hands on her sides.
He stood next to the opening to admire her. The sunset adding a beautiful glow to her sun kissed skin.
***
Celestine wondered why that hadn’t that occur to her. Her mind suddenly wondered. And in the clouds she saw him. His steel blue eyes. His short black hair. The scar on his left eyebrow.
She shook her head and smiled.
He was kind. Smart. Funny. Very enthusiastic about engineering. Just like Bryant. Shy that was for sure. Always deep into his work. A dork. Loved to tell puns. Drinks on occasion. Modest. Merciful.
She tilted her head to the side and the picture on the cloud changed.
Her eyes glassed over.
She was different. She was loud. Obnoxious. Had no filter. Drinks a lot. Smokes a lot. Parties hard. She wasn’t merciful like before when they met two years ago. No.
The cloud shape reminded her of what she always saw when she went to ask for his help or opinion.
The look he gave Tali.
She chuckled.
Tali was… smart, loves engineering as much as he does. Shy. Is merciful. Doesn’t smoke and only drinks on occasion like he does. Always into their work. Has filter. Modest. Quiet.
Her eyes blurred as a tear fell. She quickly wiped it away.
She wasn’t Tali. She wasn’t any of those things. She wasn’t a flower. She wasn’t a… she paused. With before Nihlus’ death… she never saw nothing wrong with her. Nihlus had eyes for her the moment they looked at each other. But Gus… Gus couldn’t even look at her. Sure he blushed but… only as a friend. Who was she kidding. She wasn’t for him. She was too much. And Tali was perfect for a life for him. Tranquility. Happiness. No headaches.
‘Organic’
She wiped her tears and dabbed her makeup where the tears ran down. She took out her compact mirror from her garter belt on her thigh and lipstick and applied to her desire.
An explosion was heard nearby and the guests all took out guns as the eclipse mercenaries ran to its location. Celestine put away her compact and lipstick and turned around fully, her eyes still on the location of the explosion. Her mind coming back to reality. Her mind racing as she put her heels on and jumped down the ramp.
“Bryant?” she asked with a hand to her ear piece as she walked past Gus.
“I can’t reach them,” informed Gus as he too worried for Jess’ safety.
“I got them,” said Akeelah as she waited for Jess and Kasumi to take down the plane.
“Hock got to them. Where is Bryant?” asked Akeelah.
“He was going after Hock!”
Celestine ran towards where the Eclipse mercenaries were entering in a hurry. Down through the vault door they went and Celestine had a good look at the Saren statue. Memories surfaced as she stared into the gold eyes of the statue.
‘Wished you saw reason…’
She opened the bottom part of the statue and Gus marveled at the Gunblade in her hand. Now turned into the Black Widow sniper rifle as she held it with two hands.
She looked at the bottom of her dress and placed the gunblade down, taking the fabric in her hands and ripped it towards where her garter belt was located. Gus looked away blushing, coughing as he grabbed his guns.
She didn’t say anything as she wrapped the fabric up her left arm and grabbed her gunblade, going into the elevator and waited for Gus to accompany her. Once in, he pressed the button both joining the action.
