what story is it that wormwood and rye are part of? i dont think ive followed you long enough to have heard it..
well, its not super plotted out but its a medieval fantasy folklore-y kinda story (sort of medieval scotland, wales, ireland vibes (not england, out of spite). but diverse). i have pinterest boards i can link if u want
the characters are Cardigan Ys, Rye Lyra, Wormwood, the king (wormwoods father), the rose knight (he’s bad and his head is a rose bush). and also rye’s little sister too. she hasnt got a design yet.
i dont have photos of them all rn but here is cardigan rye and wormwood (in order):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
they maybe are also in the same world as my other ocs sala, mallory and hollyhocks. but idk bc their setting is more slavic. and its set a bit afterwards. maybe they tell stories about cardigan and rye to hollyhocks’ children.
also here’s sala, mallory and hollyhocks (in order):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ive had these characters since 2017. (cardigan and rye are from 2018. wormwoods kinda from 2020. the king is from 2017/18 tho.. and the original idea of rotting. i have one drawing of wormwood from then as well tho). sala and mallory are witches. sala is a blood witch. and mallory is a death/decay witch who buries people in the woods and lives in a little underground house. hollyhocks is a creature and she has twin daughters.

Wes for the full clear on the OC asks? 😘😘😘
Tumblr media
— OC QUESTIONS
BASICS
What’s their full name? Wesley Daniel Brooks
What does their name mean? Why were they named that? Wesley means “western meadow,” Daniel means “God is my judge,” and Brooks means “stream.” You can find my real world reasoning for choosing his name here. As for the canon reasoning, Wesley is a family name on his father’s side and Daniel is a good Christian name.
Do they have any nicknames? Lots. Wes is the big one (Hwes if you’re Hurk Jr.), Rook, Dep (Deputy if you're as extra as John Seed), Bright Eyes (Raf only), Sundance (Nick only), Darling (Lyra, when she’s being cheeky), and probably a handful more that I’m forgetting.
How old are they? 28, almost 29 as of the start of FC5.
When’s their birthday? November 11, 1989
What’s their zodiac sign/element/birthstone/etc.? Do they believe that holds any significance? Scorpio sun, Aries moon, Aquarius rising. Year of the snake. Birthstones are topaz and citrine. He isn’t aware enough of any of this to believe in it.
What’s their species/subspecies? Do they have any special/magical abilities? He is a natural disaster in human form. His special ability is that he somehow manages to survive that for as long as he does.
What “class” do they belong to (for fantasy characters)? If none, what weapon do they favor? A revolver (Steel & Ivory), a sawed-off shotgun (Sin Eater), or basic hand-to-hand. Close combat is preferable to range. He also uses homemade C4 in his tireless crusade against cult infrastructure.
APPEARANCE
What do they look like? He’s 6′3″, has brown-ish hair (specifically, a warm golden bronze color) and hazel eyes with long eyelashes. Fit, moderate-to-lean build. Sharp features, angular jaw, a pronounced Cupid’s bow. He has the facial hair of a man who has forgotten to shave for two weeks, because he is—you guessed it—a man who has forgotten to shave for two weeks.
Do they have a face claim? Tomas Skoloudik
What’s their style like? Clothes, hair, makeup? Casual clothing—flannels (often tied around the waist), t-shirts, henleys, jeans, boots, jewelry (gold, leather), leather jacket, cargo jacket. His hair is messy and soft, just like he is, because he doesn’t overload it with hair products unlike some people. He’s got an ouroboros tattooed around the lower part of his right forearm and (universe-dependent) John and Lyra’s names on the inside of his wrists.
How do they carry themselves? What’s their default expression? He attempts to project swagger and indifference, but to anyone who knows him and is paying attention, he’s an open book. In a comfortable environment, he’s loose and casual. His default expression is fixated if he has something to occupy his mind and distant if he doesn’t.
Do they have any physical ailments or disabilities? No, but he’s got bruises and flesh wounds aplenty! He’s got bite marks and scratches galore! You want knife-slashing scars? He’s got twenty. But who cares? No big deal. Wes wants mooooore! 🎵
PERSONALITY
What’s their alignment? Chaotic Good/Chaotic Neutral
Which one of the 16 Personality Types do they fit into? ISFP
What are their hobbies and interests? Do they have any particular “favorites” (food, books, and so on)? I answered for his favorite films and TV here, and his favorite book is Watership Down. He likes the Beatles and bar snacks and black coffee. His favorite cultists are Lyra, John, and Shaggy—please don’t judge him.
What are they bad at? Dancing!
What kind of things do they dislike/hate? Hates being controlled, dislikes very sweet things.
Do they have any vices/addictions/mental illnesses? Impulsiveness, reactive behaviors. He smokes and drinks, although neither of those are done with a shocking amount of excess. Previously, harder drugs.
What are their goals and motivations? Freedom and acceptance.
What are their manners like? Any habits? He’s not a jerk; he has passable manners when the situation calls for them, but Emily Post would like him not. His habits are covered in much more detail here, but the big one is that he tends to busy his hands and/or mouth with things wherever possible.
What are they most afraid of? Rejection, abandonment, enclosed spaces, death (specifically, the possibility of an afterlife).
BACKGROUND
Where were they born? What was their childhood like? Born in Hope County. He was an only child and his home life was suspect, but made moderately more bearable by his best friend. Once he realized trying to please his father was a losing battle, he said hell yeah to a downward spiral of rebelliousness and troublemaking.
What’s their family like? His dad was a jerk of the sort that would never be satisfied. Big on toxic masculinity, short on acceptance. His mother loved him, but she fell in line more often than not.
What factions or organizations are they a part of? What ranks and titles do they hold? Hope County Sheriff’s Office (probationary sheriff’s deputy), Hope County Resistance (figurehead, pot stirrer, problem magnet).
How do they fit into their “story”? Barely. Next question. I hate to use this word yet again, but it’s the only one that fits: his story is mostly about acceptance—self, fate, fault, sorrow, joy—because as much as he desired acceptance from others, he denied a lot of it for himself.
Where do they currently live? What’s their place like? He grew up in the Silver Lake trailer park, way up on the northeastern end of Holland Valley, near the Whitetails. For the duration of the game timeline, I picture him spending more time crashing where he can—with the Ryes, in the woods, wherever—but his own place would be sparse and fairly untidy, with clothes tossed everywhere.
How do they eventually die? Wesley intends to live forever. How dare you insinuate—
RELATIONSHIPS
Do they have any friends? Would they consider anyone to be their best friend? Within the timeline of the game, he has quite a few. Raf is his best friend (and has been since they were kids), but Nick (and Kim) are both up there. He has a soft spot for Mary May; that seems to be reciprocal. He appreciates Grace because she doesn’t ask unnecessary questions. Sharky and Hurk offer unconditional friendship, which he appreciates and sorely needs. Adelaide is the vodka aunt who thirsts after his ex. She tries to rile him up sometimes (in a myriad of ways), but he likes her. And if you account for other universes, his friend count goes way up thanks to the various and sundry brat squad kids.
What’s their friend group like? What role do they play in it? When he was younger, he was the introvert-adopted-by-an-extrovert. He was a bit too withdrawn to have friends outside of that, though he wasn’t unfriendly. For a bulk of the current timeline, his friend group is “ragtag misfits” status and he basically gets ping-ponged between them as they try—with varying amounts of success—to fight a cult.
What’s their love life like? (See also: ship question meme.) Do they have any kids? Depends on the universe. In canon, it’s messy but becomes significantly healthier later on. His previous relationship was promising and likely would have been ideal, except that they were young and unable (or unready) to deal with the realities of their situation. In AU, he is enemies-with-benefits but also grossly in love with the Judge of Eden’s Gate and her husband (who was a fun surprise, but it’s fine, because Wes got Lyra back by giving her a gracious two-for-one deal on children)!
Who do they look up to? Who do they trust? Whitehorse is something of a father figure, though Wes would never say that out loud. For the record, neither would Whitehorse (at least not directly to Wes)—mostly for Wes’s benefit. He trusts Raf, Pastor Jerome, and the rest of his friends listed above.
Who do they hate? Do they have any enemies? Joseph, because Joseph is daddy issues incarnate. Jacob, because Jacob understands Wes well enough to yank him around like a dog on a leash. By the time the Collapse hits, everyone is his enemy to some extent (as evidenced by the adorable horns and pointy tails drawn all over his wanted posters). Notable exceptions are John, Sharky, Hurk, and Whitehorse; however, all but the first are functionally unknown to him.
Do they have any pets? Just Boomer, who is the best emotional support animal a disaster could ask for.
Are they good with kids? Animals? He’s naturally good with both children and animals, but he lacks practical experience, especially with the former (shout-out to the Ryes for finally adding that to his resume).
FUN FACTS
Which tropes do they fit? Which archetypes? Tropewise, he’s Troubled, but Cute and I can’t refute it; apart from the high school thing, it’s a full BINGO clear. He’s also Bruiser with a Soft Center, Inferiority Superiority Complex, Cosmic Plaything, Desperately Craves Affection, Hero with Bad Publicity, I Am Not My Father, and almost certainly a whole host of shameful others that I don’t dare brave the rest of TVTropes to find. Of the twelve classic archetypes, he’s some combination of The Hero and The Outlaw. Otherwise: fallen angel, antihero, byronic hero, prodigal son.
Do they play any instruments? Sports? He can play guitar, but only at an intermediate level. He’s not big on sports, but he can ice skate and he likes to swim.
What are some items they always carry? Steel & Ivory and a lighter; later, Sin Eater. In New Dawn he carries John’s watch.
Do they collect anything? Bad decisions. Minicultists, apparently. Nothing in particular.
What position do they sleep in? His default position when he’s alone and in a comfortable place is on his belly. There are exceptions listed in greater detail here.
Which emoji would they use the most? Honestly, he’s not really the type to use emojis, but he will send his love interest pictures of things he likes or finds pretty with no context. Otherwise, his texts tend to be short, to-the-point, and lacking in punctuation or capitalization. Believe it or not, he’d much rather communicate in person. My most frequently used emojis for him are 🍰 and 🐍. (Awww, cake and snake... They rhyme. How precious!)
What languages do they speak? English. He knows a limited amount of Spanish, but he’s better at understanding it than he is at speaking it.
What’s their favorite expletive? Damn or fuck.
What’s their favorite candle scent? Pine.
What songs remind you of them? I have a playlist for him here, but it—much like him—is a bit of a mess. I also have a playlist based on his own taste in music here.
Which animal would you say represents them? Snakes, stags, swans, scorpions.
What stereotypical high school clique would they fit into? Loners or troublemakers, probably. Stoners on a technicality—he doesn’t fit the stereotype, but he does have a history. He has some of the soul of an art kid but, tragically, none of the talent.
What would their favorite ride at an amusement park be? At a real amusement park, probably the roller coasters. At something more lowkey like a carnival, he’d like the classic, aesthetically pleasing rides like the Ferris wheel or the carousel.
Do they believe in aliens? Ghosts? Reincarnation or something else? He’s not an “I Want to Believe” sort of guy, but he still can’t explain the Larry Parker debacle. He tries very hard not to believe (or at least not to think about) any sort of afterlife, because he fears it.
Do they follow any religions/gods? Do they celebrate holidays? His family was Catholic, but he endeavors not to be. He likely wouldn’t celebrate holidays as a bachelor overmuch, but he would take part in holiday activities with others.
Which Deadly Sin do they most correspond to? Which Heavenly Virtue? Pride and Fortitude.
If you had to choose one tarot card to represent them, which would it be? The Tower, The Devil, The Wheel of Fortune.

🍒🧡📀 for lyra?
ty legend!!
Tumblr media
🍒 what kind of things do they expect from their relationships? does this differ between platonic relationships and romantic ones? is your oc “demanding” or a door mat? what kinds of things do people expect from them in a relationship?
“expectation” is a difficult word in her case, because historically, she’s expected absolutely nothing; she accepted that romantic relationships, close friendships, and lasting bonds were impossible for her, not because she did not wish for them or because she did not easily get close to people — she did — but because she would never be able to share the whole of herself with them, and she could not and would not live a lie or deceive, even by omission, someone she cared deeply about ( nor did she think it reasonable to expect them to bind themselves to someone they could never truly know ).
on a more general note, what lyra absolutely cannot tolerate is indifference, in familial, platonic or romantic relationships ( though this is only truly relevant to her in the familial sense with her background ). of course she wants to be loved and accepted, but she would rather be utterly, bitterly despised than invisible or treated with apathy. that translates to an expectation, or need, for engagement, but more significantly passion; she needs reactive company. she needs reciprocity, positive or negative. she needs intensity.
that’s essentially all she asks, however; if you can meet her at her level, if you know her, see her, and accept her, that’s all she could ever want or need. that doesn’t really translate to either being demanding or a doormat; she needs a match, nothing more, nothing less. she demands everything mentioned above in that a relationship with her is impossible without it, but she wouldn’t ever ask it of someone who did not willingly give it ( because, once again, it’s something she has always believed is an impossibility for her ). having said that, it’s about all that matters to her, so she isn’t a doormat in that she doesn’t let things go that bother her for the sake of avoiding conflict — she charges head-first into conflict, always — but her love is unconditional where it’s given, to the point of obsession/unhealthy enmeshment/codependency.
🧡 who is your oc’s favourite person? why is this person the top of their list and have they actually met them (an idol or rolemodel or celeb can be someone’s favourite after all!). + who does your oc absolutely hate, the one person who they’d sell to satan for one corn chip? why do they loathe this person so?
her favorite person is herself! this person is at the top of her list because everyone else is terrible. rip to them in the collapse.
no, her favorite person is her husband ( closely followed by the rest of her family and, yes, shaggy; she truly does appreciate him, in her way ). he’s the first person she showed, fully, who she was, and she understood immediately what he was and thought, maybe. maybe. maybe it’s possible for someone to see me. maybe it’s possible for someone to understand. maybe we’re the same. maybe there’s someone else. that’s more than she ever thought she would have. yes, she has met her husband.
she hates her mother most. her father, at least, was not indifferent to her; while he is a greater source of active trauma, having used, exploited and manipulated her, isabela's apathy and indifference was worse. she still loves her mother — both her parents — but that's why she hates them most; generally speaking, she doesn't care enough about her enemies to truly hate them. they don’t incite that level of passion as individuals, merely as a group; they're not important enough, personally, to her. she might hate their type, or what they stand for, or what they do, and she might kill and brutalize them for it, but none of them are significant enough to be elevated to that level of negative emotional investment. nick rye killed her husband, but that is something for which she blames herself. while she believes he was grievously misguided, the urge to protect one’s family ( or do what one believes will protect their family ) is, at least, something she can understand, not like isabela’s apathy; because it makes sense to her, she can reconcile it. everything she did during the holy war was to protect her family, after all — she herself is the one who showed up broken and bloody on the rye’s doorstep the morning of the collapse to beg kim to get to a bunker before the final seal broke so it would not be for nothing. ultimately, though, it’s less a matter of understanding or self-blame that prevents her from loathing him the way she loathed isabela; it’s that she loved isabela, isabela had the power to hurt her, and the ryes ( or the rest of the resistance ) never had that significance in her life.
📀 how easy is it to shock your oc? to confuse them? to lie to them, to manipulate them? how are they with feelings of trust? can your OC be trusted?
it’s virtually impossible to shock her. confusion, sure, but she isn’t likely to let on; she’ll generally find a way to bullshit until she can inadvertently get things mentally sorted and/or play it off instead of directly ask for clarification ( a habit she developed not because she’s unwilling to admit confusion so much as the fact that for much of her life, directly asking for clarification has been dangerous or could have flagged suspicion; she would attempt to gather intel or sensitive information for her father, would later do this with potential targets, and ultimately spies on the civilians & resistance of hope county; being too direct or overly interested in any of those circumstances could potentially result in a shut down, and because it’s what she’s accustomed to, it’s how she tends to handle things she is unsure about or doesn’t fully grasp immediately even when there would be no harm in asking directly ).
she’s extremely difficult to lie to for similar reasons; she’s been dealing with liars and manipulators all her life. she learned the game early. she learned it from her father. not only is she inherently deeply intuitive and excellent at reading people, it was something she was constantly surrounded by; detecting it has almost always been a necessary tool for her. not much gets past her.
lyra isn’t inherently distrustful, but she isn’t inherently trusting, either; she trusts her instincts and tends to stick by them. trust has historically been complicated for her; she hasn’t had anyone she implicitly trusts, but that’s because of who and what she is — there isn’t anyone she can tell her deepest, darkest secrets, but her deepest, darkest secret is that she’s a serial killer. that isn’t a trust issue problem, that’s a her problem.
where lyra gives her love or her loyalty, she gives it completely and unconditionally; she’s entirely trustworthy and committed to those she deems worthy of it. having said that, many people have erroneously trusted or underestimated her, which she would argue is their own choice and their own miscalculation and is not a reflection on her or her trustworthiness — this would be applicable to the predators she preyed upon, the resistance, etc.

For Lyra: 🌹 🍑 and 💙?
thank you lovely!! sorry this took a minute!
Tumblr media
🌹 how easy is it for them to connect with others and make friends? on the flip side how easy is it for them to make an enemy of someone? are they the kind of person who hangs around the food table at a party and never talks to anyone or are they the type who can talk to anyone?
lyra is the epitome of affably evil; she finds it easy enough to get on with virtually anyone, including her enemies or rivals — she enjoys the company of anyone who can keep up with her.
she’s an extrovert at heart, so she needs socialization and stimulation; she can talk to anyone and probably will. she enjoys being the center of attention, and she often, inevitably, is. she can befriend virtually anyone superficially if she wishes to do so; she’s well attuned to what people wish from her, and she’s extremely charming when she chooses to be. her relationships are rarely deep or lasting, however; because of the nature of who she is and what she does, she never lingered in any one place for very long prior to hope county, and forming deep or lasting connections was not only logistically difficult but inadvisable. even were that not the case, she couldn’t really share all of herself with anyone or let herself be seen or understood — intimacy was an impossibility, so while she could offer the illusion of it, it was never anything more. most of her network consisted of those she needed in order to get close to targets or were targets themselves; anything and anyone else was a passing amusement. she was always desired, always admired, but never truly loved ( though many believed they loved her — she received a good number of proposals, all of which she rejected with a laugh and the assurance that no, they were being quite ridiculous, they most certainly did not love her, they did not even know her ). likewise, she carries a certain amount of disdain for most of the company she keeps, including her more amicable acquaintances. in hope county, she quite likes several of the prominent resistance members and would not have hesitated to befriend them should they have atoned and joined the project; as it is, she favors the ones that challenge her. kim rye is one of the few locals who never fully trusts her; lyra likes her best for it.
🍑 where is your oc’s favourite place to relax or calm down? recount a story of their time spent in this place! what makes it so special to them? is there anywhere your oc hates to go to? anywhere that stresses them out or have negative memories of?
she likes to walk the path ( if you will pardon the expression ) behind the ranch that winds down to the river; she’s always happiest outdoors, smoking or with john or faith or by herself. she loves the balcony at the ranch where she watches the sunrise. she’s deliriously happy to call the grounds home, she’s never had one before, she loves it and the man ( or men, in fairbrooksverse/if we include the long-suffering shaggy ) she shares it with dearly. she also enjoys visiting the henbane; she loves the hot springs, and shaggy is absolutely terrified of the old hotel, which delights her. she loves the rush of the river and the scent of the pines and the sun on her face or the stars in her eyes. she’s never unhappy in the fresh air; even if it’s storming or foggy, she’ll venture out to the balcony or the grounds and breathe it in.
for that same reason, she actually detests the bunkers. her judge chambers and office are in the silo/gate she shares with john, so she spends a good amount of time there, and she’s made the best of it — her negative associations are all almost entirely those of dread, envisioning herself trapped for seven years without seeing the sun. she accepts it, it’s necessary, but she certainly isn’t over-fond of it. she also has a fairly limited tolerance for anywhere in town; she’ll grin and bear it for the project, it has its charms in the short-term, but the five days she spends trapped in fall’s end are absolute hell.
💙 what did your oc want to be when they grew up and why? did they have any lifelong dreams or ambitions they never got to work on or are they currently working to achieve this dream? has their life taken a very unexpected turn and put all these plans on hold for a while or have they given up on any dreams?
she didn’t have long-term career aspirations, no. she might have had passing fancies, imagining herself on the stage or as a poet or an artist — but she more precisely knew what it was she didn’t want to be; her father made her his conspirator in business at a young age, unwittingly at first and later as a knowing accomplice, and it was expected that she would formerly partner with him and have a smashing political career. she hadn’t the temperament for it; what lawrence never understood about his daughter is that she was not half the manipulator he believed she was, her tears were not ploys, her anger was not feigned to provoke.
still, she grew up with the luxury of never having to contemplate building a future, because there was nothing outside her grasp but freedom — she wished to be loved more than she wished to be free, but when it became apparent one was out of her grasp entirely, she settled for the latter, a thing she came to grips with early enough to crush political or career aspirations. when she dreamed, it was of running away. it was of never being found.
mostly she dreamed of revenge.
she got what she wanted, in her way. she finally escaped her gilded cage at fifteen ( after a nearly lifelong series of half-hearted runaway attempts, nearly always motivated as much by the desire to be chased as the desire to flee ), lived many different lives on the road, preyed on predators, targeted men like her father, killed those she thought deserving ( or, rather, undeserving ). she ultimately trades in her freedom for what she had truly wanted all her life, to have a place, to use her talents for a worthy cause, to put her nature to good use, to be loved. it was both unexpected in that it was something she had not thought possible and inevitable in that all paths, every choice, every aspect of her life led her to her fate; everything falls into place for her. she does not doubt for a moment that it is her purpose, the life she was built to lead. perhaps she’s right.
