I’m curious, cause I decided to look up “cultcore” and see if it was a thing.
Apparently it is very much a thing, and a very controversial one.
I’m seeing lots of “this shouldn’t be an “aesthetic” it’s a very real, harmful thing.” Which is probably the case. I’m also seeing some weird shit about a unicorn related cult and people romanticizing the idea of being in a cult or starting one, which isn’t cool.
A few questions for those who have more knowledge than me:
1. Is it wrong to be fascinated by visual aesthetics typically associated with cults? Such as robes, hoods, animal skull masks, rituals, etc.? I was looking up the tag for imagery inspiration for a horror story I plan on writing. I think cults are a very disturbing and terrible thing in real life, but I think the horror media trope version of cults are interesting (for example, Los Iluminados from Resident Evil 4).
Is there another term for this sort of aesthetic that is less in poor taste? Ive heard some say “occultcore” but that often veers into “OMGGG WITCHY VIBESSSSS” and “WE ARE THE GRANDDAUGHTERS OF THE WITCHES YOU COULDN’T BURN” type stuff which makes me cringe. And I prefer the aesthetic’s mood to be villainous, not “misunderstood antiheroes”.
2. Why does cultcore specifically have so much vitriol towards it? Traumacore seems pretty messed up and romanticizing too as well as other aesthetics I’ve seen. I also see people making serial killer aesthetic moodboards and “x reader” fanfiction, for both fictional and real killers. Also people making “aesthetic inspo” for just the general concept of serial killers. I’ve seen some criticism for those things too but not as much. Is it the idea that this specifically is making light of a very real subject but the other things aren’t? Is everyone who is fascinated by the subject of cults an insensitive jerk? Is it bad to, for example, make a DND character who is a cult leader? Is the anger only aimed towards who joke around about “lol I wanna join a cult” or make Jim Jones and Charles Manson edits?
I’m asking because I genuinely don’t want to make light of people’s trauma, but I also just….like the stereotypical cult visual aesthetics and find the subject interesting. And I don’t think I’ll just…not find it interesting or appealing. So if there’s an aesthetic like the thing I’m talking about that is less insensitive, please let me know.

Anon asked: Hello, Kokichi!
My “request” is more of a challenge for you. I just would like to see you making an edit with a source of yours that is unpopular on your blog. Can be any kind of editing (icon, moodboard, wallpaper, etc), as long as said source isn't known to be requested often or requested at all.
Hey hey Anon! This was really interesting and it was fun to do honestly ^^ thnk you for the request I really like Ayumi so it was nice to do

Worked on a song for a good portion of late night. Didn’t feel right. Didn’t sound right. Didn’t play right. Scrapped it. Wasted night.
