Meatless Fridays: a waiter explains to patrons of a restaurant about the first "meatless" day observed here in 24 years, October 9, 1942. Only fish and vegetable plates were on the menu, designed to help cut the consumption of meat by 21 per cent as requested by the government in order to make rationing unnecessary. It didn't work. Meat was rationed in January 1943.

FN: Apparently, people were no better with apostrophes during the Golden Age than they are today.

Cette jupe toute nouvelle pour la saison d'automne se compose de 2 morceaux:

No. 1. — Tablier se taille double sans couture; le milieu du tablier se pose sur le pli de l'étoffe.

No. 2. — Lé du dos; le côté se raccordant au tablier se pose sur le lisière de l'étoffe.

Ce lé se rapporte à celui du devant par 1 cran au patron et suivant les lettres AB du dessin.

Cette jupe peut se garnir de bandes de satin ou de velours ondulé du ton de l'étoffe, tout autour de la jupe, ou seulement à partir des côtés, laissant le tablier du devant tout uni. Nos gravures donnent les 2 aspects.

Il faut 3m,60 de tissu en 120 pour faire cette jupe.

This brand new skirt for the fall season consists of 2 pieces:

No. 1. — Apron is double cut without sewing; the middle of the apron rests on the fold of the fabric.

No. 2. — Back strip; the side connecting to the apron rests on the edge of the fabric.

This length relates to the front one by 1 notch in the pattern and following the letters AB in the drawing.

This skirt can be trimmed with strips of satin or wavy velvet in the same color as the fabric, all around the skirt, or only from the sides, leaving the front apron all plain. Our engravings give both aspects.

You need 3.6 meters of 120 fabric to make this skirt.
