I'm trying to read fall and spooky books this season.

This one was perfect.

I read Dead Silence in a day. I finished it close to midnight last night and it creeped me out. I had to find a lighter read before I could go to sleep.

I also did not like that I was sleeping on the edge of the bed where something could grab my ankle. Haha ha ha... I made sure I was bundled up tight.

Synopsis:

A GHOST SHIP.

A SALVAGE CREW.

UNSPEAKABLE HORRORS.

Claire Kovalik is days away from being unemployed—made obsolete—when her beacon repair crew picks up a strange distress signal. With nothing to lose and no desire to return to Earth, Claire and her team decide to investigate.

What they find at the other end of the signal is a shock: the Aurora, a famous luxury space-liner that vanished on its maiden tour of the solar system more than twenty years ago. A salvage claim like this could set Claire and her crew up for life. But a quick trip through the Aurora reveals something isn’t right.

Whispers in the dark. Flickers of movement. Words scrawled in blood. Claire must fight to hold onto her sanity and find out what really happened on the Aurora, before she and her crew meet the same ghastly fate.

I have a couple short story collections on deck for October & first up is Rob Ulitski’s FLESHED OUT: A Collection of Body Horror, which will be available October 14, 2022. The first story, “Hair,” features a serial killer that has an unusual appetite - the killer chooses their victims based on their luscious locks…because they then CONSUME THE HAIR. As far as the body horror element in this one: Did I want to look away from a few scenes? Yes. Did my curiosity and desire to know what happened next override that feeling? Also yes! Do things get hairy? Do humans hack up hairballs like cats? Hair is supposed to be straight protein, what are the advantages or disadvantages of ingesting hair in this regard? “It sounded like a dream; it tasted like damnation”⁣ ⁣ I am really loving this book so far, I’m only a few chapters in. But I hope to read more in the next few days. I’m also reading The invisible life of Addie Larue, and the writing is beautiful I can tell I’m going to love it. ⁣ ⁣ I’ve also been trying to watch s horror/thriller movie a day, I’m a little behind in this challenge so while I’m off this week I’m doubling up when I have time. I just watched #Alive, all I have to say is from now on, South Korea is the only country allowed to make zombie movies.
