Ocular — Version 3
Preview // User Guide // More Info & Install
your favorite sidebar theme just got an upgrade, babeyyy
I went to update Ocular to make it NPF post-compliant and then my hand slipped and I redesigned the whole thing lmao. here's a brief update about Ocular 3; if you're looking for a full list of changes between versions 2 and 3, click the "Read More" below)
Ocular comes with the following features:
Colors: easily change the color scheme of your sidebar and posts using any colors you want
Post sizes: 400px, 500px, 540px, 600px, 700px
Sidebar: can be on the left, right, or above the posts. pick from a list of sidebar sizes, header image heights, and avatar shapes
Fonts: 20 different fonts, sizes 13px to 18px
Background: solid, gradient, full-size image or repeating image
Links: choose either regular navigation or drop-down navigation. unlimited custom links (visit the help desk FAQ for a tutorial) and ability to rename home, ask, submit, and archive links
Endless scroll, custom ask box text, Tumblr's full-width controls and search bar, optional header, avatar, and favicon images
if you already have Ocular installed, version 3 should be coming at you as soon as the update passes the theme garden. if you installed this theme with GitHub, you'll have to re-install manually.
now let's get to the fun stuff. what's new in version 3?
wow, do I have some updates for you!
1. goodbye color schemes, hello post background and text colors
you can now directly control the color of the posts rather than relying on color schemes to do it. want your posts to be a very specific shade of navy? all yours, buddy. go wild (make sure it's readable tho)
2. hello, color schemes! wait I thought we got rid of that guy
a lot of the color schemes I made became redundant now that the new post background/text color options exist. if you were married to the old color schemes, all of them can be recreated using those options. so the new color scheme options are as follows:
"My colors" — uses the colors you picked for post background/text
"Light preset" and "dark preset" — sets the posts to white with black text, or off-black with white text
"Translucent" — uses the colors you choose for post background/text, but makes the post backgrounds semi-transparent. there are NINE different translucent color schemes, ranging from 90% (only slightly see-through) to 10% (VERY see through)
3. navigation dropdown option
you can either use the sidebar links like they were before, or you can turn them into a cute little dropdown (helpful if you have lots of links or links with long titles!) you can enable this using the "use dropdown navigation" setting. you can also customize the label for the dropdown using the "dropdown menu label" setting. for instance, the dropdown on my blog currently says "oooh you wanna click me"
4. RIP google fonts I always hated your load times
decided to stop using Google Fonts and instead I'm providing the font files directly in the code. this will help speed up load times drastically when using custom fonts, plus I don't have to use Google. win-win! there's quite a bit of coverage overlap with the old fonts, but some of them that were too similar to each other got the ax. I also added all of the system fonts as options (hit classics like Arial, Georgia, and Comic Sans MS are now available TO YOU!)
5. more layout, sizing, and spacing options
the sidebar used to be either on the center-left, center-right, or above the posts; now it can go in the top-left or top-right! you can now control the border radius on the posts and sidebar. the header height, sidebar width, and post spacing all have additional options.
6. some options have been renamed for additional clarity
"background color 1" -> "background color"
"background color 2" -> "gradient background color"
"background" -> "background style"
"font override" -> "use body font everywhere"
"title" -> "sidebar title"
"description" -> "sidebar description"
"ask box text" -> "custom HTML above ask box"
7. removed some options
you win some, you lose some. I removed the uppercase sidebar links, theme credit, and inline media spacing options, mostly for redundancy reasons or because they produced unclear results.
8. as previously stated, now NPF-compliant
Ocular was ALMOST compliant with Tumblr's new post format, but had a few tweaks that needed to be ironed out. they're now ironed.
9: now user-friendly right out of the box
I updated the default color and content options, so new users installing this theme will have a much easier time using and customizing it immediately. no more ugly ass green background!
10. and finally, new JS
I had to rewrite some of the javascript for this theme, which turned into me rewriting ALL of the javascript. doing so meant that I could eliminate dependencies on third-party JS libraries and run the whole thing on plain JS. that should improve load times!!
bonus: custom CSS can do some nifty stuff now
want to change the size of your avatar? you can do that now! just do this to your Advanced > Add custom CSS section
Tumblr media Tumblr media
super helpful if you're using the Avatar shape: Uncropped setting and you need your image to be a specific size (like a pixelated GIF)
for more info, check out the Ocular user guide. thanks for reading my updates!! hope you all have a fantastic start to your 2024 ❤️

Two days in a row with an ocular migraine now. I don’t know what’s triggering it but oh wow it’s bad. I wish I had blackout curtains in the bedroom because it’s too bright even though it’s raining. Have to heat up dinner in less than an hour, just hoping my vision clears up and stops glitching. So hard to type!

Top 11 Nutritious Foods To Keep Your Eyes Healthy
Eyes are one of the most important organs in your body. However, with the increasing use of technology and prolonged exposure to digital screens, the eyes are subjected to a lot of stress, leading to several eye issues. Therefore, it is important to take care of your eyes by consuming a balanced diet that is rich in nutrients that promote eye health.
Here are the top 11 nutritious foods to keep your eyes healthy.
1. Fish Fish is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for maintaining healthy eyes. These healthy fats help prevent dry eyes, reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration, a leading cause of vision loss in older adults, and may even improve visual function in people with certain eye conditions. Oily fish such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel are especially rich in omega-3s.
2. Eggs Eggs are rich in lutein and zeaxanthin, two antioxidants that help protect the eyes from damage caused by free radicals. Studies have shown that consuming these antioxidants may reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration. In addition, eggs are a good source of vitamin A, which is essential for maintaining healthy vision. Vitamin A helps protect the surface of the eye (cornea) and is also important for night vision.
3. Nuts and Seeds Walnuts, pecans, almonds, and cashews are high in vitamin E which can help prevent eye damage caused by free radicals. Sunflower seeds and flaxseeds contain omega 3 fatty acids which have been known to either slow or reduce the risk of macular degeneration. Plus, many nuts and seeds also contain zinc, a mineral that aids in transporting vitamin A from the liver to the retina for ocular health. It's important to note that salted versions may have the opposite effect as sodium may increase fluid retention around your eyes' glands leading to dark circles under your eyes so it's best to opt for unsalted options.
4. Beans and Legumes Beans and legumes are an excellent source of nutrients that can significantly benefit your eyes. These nutrients include zinc, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids, which are crucial for maintaining healthy eyesight. By incorporating these foods into your diet, you can prevent age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, and other eye diseases.
5. Raw Red Peppers Raw red peppers contain high levels of vitamins A and C, as well as beta-carotene. These essential vitamins are crucial for maintaining optimal eye health. Vitamin A plays a vital role in protecting the cornea, while vitamin C acts as a potent antioxidant that can prevent cataracts and macular degeneration. Beta-carotene, on the other hand, is converted by the body into vitamin A, which not only helps maintain healthy eyesight but also boosts immune function.
6. Broccoli Broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable that is packed with antioxidants, specifically vitamins C, E, and A, which are crucial for maintaining healthy eyesight. It also contains lutein and zeaxanthin, which help protect the eyes from harmful UV rays and blue light. The antioxidants and nutrients found in broccoli work together to prevent macular degeneration and cataracts, two common eye diseases that affect your vision as you age.
7. Kale Kale has been shown to have numerous benefits for eye health due to its high content of various vitamins and minerals. One of the primary nutrients found in kale that makes it particularly beneficial for vision health is lutein, which is a type of carotenoid known for its ability to protect the eyes from harmful blue light. Lutein also helps to prevent age-related macular degeneration. Kale also contains other important vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, beta-carotene, and zinc, all of which are essential for maintaining healthy eyes. Additionally, kale has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases that can affect eyesight over time.
8. Dairy Dairy products are known to be rich in vitamin A and calcium, which are crucial for maintaining healthy eyes. Milk, cheese, and yogurt are all excellent sources of these nutrients. Vitamin A helps to protect the cornea, while calcium is essential for strong bones, including those in the eye. Consuming dairy on a regular basis can help reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, and other eye conditions.
9. Carrots Carrots are a good source of beta-carotene, which is converted into vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A is essential for maintaining healthy eyesight in human beings. The nutrient helps to prevent night blindness and other eye-related disorders such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. Also, carotenoids present in carrots protect against ocular surface diseases, including dry eyes syndrome and eyelid inflammation. Regular consumption of carrots can reduce the risk of these conditions and offer long-term eye health benefits. Moreover, consuming whole or raw carrots retains more nutrients than cooking or juicing them.
10. Sweet Potatoes Sweet potatoes are rich in beta-carotene, which gets converted into vitamin A in your body and is known to prevent macular degeneration. Vitamin A is also known to help with vision, especially in low-light conditions. Sweet potatoes also have antioxidants like zeaxanthin and lutein, which protect the eyes from light damage and cataracts. They are also high in vitamin C, which can help reduce the risk of cataracts.
11. Citrus Fruits Citrus fruits contain high levels of vitamin C, which is essential for healthy eyesight. The antioxidant properties found in vitamin C help to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals, reducing the risk of age-related eye diseases such as macular degeneration and cataracts. Citrus fruits are also a good source of bioflavonoids, which can help to improve blood flow to the eyes and reduce inflammation. Some studies have even shown that regular consumption of citrus fruits can lower your risk of developing glaucoma, a common eye condition where the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain, becomes damaged.

Needle Tract Recurrence of Renal Cell Carcinoma after Microwave Ablation by Tella David in Journal of Clinical and Medical Images, Case Reports
Tumblr media
Abstract
A 21 years-old male was complaining from; decrease in vision, fever, blurring and inability to open the eyes in the sun. The patient attended the Eye hospital in Gaza where Fundus photo and serological tests were carried out in the eye hospital and Islamic University-Gaza laboratories. The patient complains from blurring and retinochoroditis. The ophthalmological examination revealed hypertensive non-granulomatous panuveitis, retinal vasculitis with focus of retinochoroiditis with lesioned central area suggestive of ocular toxoplasmosis. The serological tests proved that IgG was high in the patient serum and recorded 54.50 while IgM was negative. The fundus photo showed a clear lesion. Ocular toxoplasmosis is present among patients attending Eye hospital. The clinical cases could be detected among patients complaining from retinochoroditis. Ocular toxoplasmosis should be considered, and more investigations are needed. Keywords: Ocular; toxoplasmosis; fundus; eye; Gaza; infection.
Introduction
Thermal ablation is commonly used for management of small renal masses. Tumor seeding due to needle manipulation during renal mass biopsy or thermal ablative treatment is very rare. Seeding upstages a curable, organ-confined disease into a complicated recurrent cancer. This condition is described in few case reports and has not been reported after microwave ablation [3]. We report a patient that underwent transhepatic microwave ablation of a right renal cancer and developed a tumor along the ablation tract.
Case report
A 75-year-old male with complex medical history including heart disease, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and sleep apnea presented to our clinic with a 4 cm right renal mass discovered incidentally following CT imaging for unrelated abdominal pain (Figure 1). A biopsy of the mass revealed a Fuhrman grade 2 clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Treatment options were discussed and the patient elected microwave ablation therapy. This procedure was performed by a urology and radiology collaborative team.
Tumblr media
Figure 1: Preoperative CT showing right upper pole kidney tumor (thin arrow) and adjacent cyst (thick arrow).
Three PR -15 (NeuWave Medical, Madison, WI) microwave probes were inserted transhepatically into the upper pole renal tumor. Correct positioning of the probes within the mass was confirmed with ultrasound and abdominal CT scan (Figure 2). Immediate post procedure films showed complete ablation of the tumor and the adjacent cyst. Significantly, the entire trans-hepatic tract was ablated during removal of the microwave probes, as is our protocol.
Tumblr media
Figure 2: Transhepatically placed microwave probes traversing the posterior aspect of the liver (arrow) with tips located in the right renal mass.
Six months later, the patient underwent a surveillance CT scan which demonstrated no tumor recurrence (Figure 3). MRI imaging at year 2 demonstrated stable post-treatment changes of right upper pole kidney ablation, without evidence of tumor recurrence or metastasis.
Tumblr media
Figure 3: Coronal oblique CT reconstruction showing path of probes through liver edge.
Tumblr media
Figure 4: US during ablation showing probe tract through liver edge.
Five years following ablation, the patient presented with gross hematuria and right flank pain. A CT urogram demonstrated a filling defect in the proximal right ureter. Additionally, there was an ill-defined hypo-enhancing lesion at the posterior right hepatic lobe with an adjacent small perihepatic soft tissue nodule, not present on prior studies (Figure 4). The patient underwent right ureteroscopy. Upon entry into the bladder, blood was effluxing from the right ureteral orifice. Ureteroscopy revealed old clot in renal pelvis, but no tumors or active bleeding. Urine cytology was negative for malignancy.
Tumblr media
Figure 5: Six month post ablation CT showing non-enhancing right upper pole mass. Liver appears normal.
Tumblr media
Figure 6: Five year post ablation image showing liver mass (hollow arrow), perihepatic mass (thin arrow), and enhancing upper pole renal mass (arrowhead).
The patient was referred for ultrasound guided percutaneous biopsy of the liver mass. The biopsy revealed metastatic carcinoma, favored to be renal cell carcinoma. Metastatic workup with a chest CT demonstrated scattered (approximately 15) sub-centimeter pulmonary nodules suspicious for metastatic disease. A review of the CT showed 2 cm recurrence of the right upper pole renal mass. The patient has been evaluated by medical oncology and is currently on an active surveillance protocol for his asymptomatic metastatic disease.
Discussion
Percutaneous thermal ablation has been described to be effective in the management of appropriately selected cases of RCC. Few reports of metastasis in the ablation tract after treatment have been published [1, 2]. Metastasis following ablation is suspected to be caused by tumor spillage during cryoablation or during withdrawal of the probe at the end of ablation [3]. Accumulated anecdotal cases note that transhepatic access to the upper pole of the kidney can be performed safely in the rare cases where no other access is possible [4, 5].
Some reports suggest transhepatic radiofrequency ablation can be an advantageous approach for superior or anterior renal masses, especially in patients that are unable to undergo ablation in the prone position [4, 5]. The main disadvantage identified is the violation of the peritoneum, which portends increased risk of seeding. It is estimated that such seeding is a very rare, occurring in <0.01% of cases. These reports discuss tract ablation to mitigate this risk; however, the benefit of this approach is not well defined. To our knowledge, metastasis to the liver following a transhepatic approach has not been previously described after percutaneous microwave ablation of RCC. In the case of our patient, this was an anterior, superior mass. However, this recurrence occurred despite our careful ablation of the liver tract at the end of the procedure.
Conclusions
Seeding metastasis is an unfortunate and rare event, which can occur after percutaneous ablation of a renal mass. We caution all clinicians to avoid transhepatic access for percutaneous ablation of a renal mass, when feasible, to avoid possible hepatic seeding metastasis.

Ocular — Version 2.0.0
Preview // More Info & Install
oh heyyyy hi hello long time no chat! (it's been over a year!) (sorry!)
I decided to give my theme Opticant a face lift, along with a desperately needed name change. I'm not really working on other new themes right now but I was so excited to update this!
Ocular comes with the following features:
Uses Tumblr's full-width controls and search bar
Post Sizes: 400px, 500px, 540px, 600px, 700px
Sidebar Width: 200px, 260px, 300px, 350px, 400px
Font Sizes: 14px, 15px, 16px, 18px
Background: solid, 2-color gradient, or image (full, static, or repeating)
Unlimited custom links (visit the help desk FAQ for tutorial)
Custom titles for Home, Ask, Submit, and Archive links
Endless scroll, custom fonts, and custom ask box text
Optional header and avatar image
Ocular version 2.0.0 adds these new features:
Color Schemes: Default, Tumblr, Dark Mode, Low Contrast, Cement, Cybernetic, Canary, Pastel, Blended Light, Blended Dark
Sidebar Location: Left, Right, or Above Posts
Added "Uncropped" to the "Avatar Shape" option, which will show your Avatar image in its native aspect ratio with no background, border, or rounded corners (see images 2 and 3) (perfect for transparent images and sprites) (redux edits? again? heck yeah)
Various additions and small tweaks to minor options, such as new background options, theme credit customization, etc.
It also fixes these bugs and adds these cool code updates:
Long words were prevented from being broken, thereby cutting off text on the edge of the post
Updated inline photosets so they no longer break when using endless scroll
The appearance of Read More links and the Pinned Post indicator have been updated to more closely match the Tumblr dashboard
Added lightbox functionality to all images
Compressed JS and CSS for quicker load times
Probably more updates honestly I kinda lost track
you can install (or reinstall) this theme here, or you can cross your fingers and hope that my submission to the theme garden (??!!?!?!) gets approved!! as always, thanks for using my themes. I've been making them for almost 10 years and I'm so grateful to all of you for helping me make that a possibility <3
