A year of use on the Tanfo. I’m not good at sticking to one gun when it comes to USPSA/Multigun because I am more interested in shooting and owning guns I enjoy instead of gamer only guns. So it’s not like a full year of continuous matches but a fair number.

The file knife complete. Certainly not perfect but a pretty quick project that’s entirely functional.

Made myself some new mag carriers today. First time trying the double layer kydex and it worked out great. Makes them super heavy duty. I wanted to be able to cant them and swap them out easily so this time I designed my block mold for tek-loks.

Time for an upgrade. The “Freedom” PSA barrel just didn’t want to shoot anything better than 1.5-2.5MOA, including some Hornady loads that shot as low as 5/8ths inch groups from another gun. That’s not a big deal really. I make 200 yard hits on 12″ plates all day just mono-podding off the magazine at our monthly MultiGun matches with cheap ammo. IMO that is plenty of accuracy for realistic sized targets at the effective range of an AR15. Here comes the big BUT! I’m gonna shoot a match that has shots at 600 yards in July. Word is, they are reasonable sized targets which I might be able to hit, but a Milspec trigger, 2MOA, and I am assuming we’ll just be prone, monopodding? Yeah, I kinda want more. I’m running a 4x optic to boot. There is only so much cheddar to go around and I felt like putting the money into the barrel and trigger made more sense than the optic, plus, this is a great optic IMO. Gamer shit kinda annoys me, but 4x is again, plenty for realistic sized targets at the effective range of an AR15. I love the game, just not so much the equipment race.
So I go to AIM for the barrel because they sell them with a pinned lightweight gas block. I get there and the Faxon Gunner barrel from the match series was out of stock. I don’t want a “Heavy Fluted” barrel because I don’t want to add weight to this rifle. Then I notice the weight listed on Faxon’s site and I say, isn’t that the same as a govt profile barrel? Why yes, yes it is. In fact, it ended up being 1oz lighter than the PSA barrel. Well now this is more interesting. And the order was placed. I’ll take the rigidity, cooling powers, and sex factor of a fluted barrel all day if it’s light weight enough.
Got the LaRue MBT and it’s as awesome as everyone says it is.
Between the barrel, gas block and trigger the gun ended up losing 3oz off the total weight. Score! Got it assembled this morning and it’s time to hit the range! Fingers crossed for more sub MOA groups from Hornady Frontier loads. I really want this barrel to like the 68 grainers because my other rifle sure does and I stocked up on em.

Anybody out there use any of this Hornady Frontier stuff? This is a 5 shot, 100 yard group from yesterday with the 55gr Spire Point load (the topmost hole is 2 rounds in the same hole). The orange dot is 1″ for reference. Absolutely amazing, 9/16ths center to center shooting my budget built SPR pictured above. Expect more testing soon. The love is starting to set in with this gun.

Quick and dirty rasp knife I’m working on. Scales are epoxied on rough but won’t take long at long to clean up and finish.
