SO ITS A TREE RIGHT???

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Norse Mythology, there is a tree called Yggdrasil. Now I’m not super familiar with it but it’s generally known as the Tree of Life that houses all the nine realms and every living soul, and is incredibly closely associated with Odin. THIS. I’m planning on having a jotun character in a future comic and was trying to pull inspiration from mythology.

Something that comes up more often than you’d expect from a 1000 years old collection of stories is different races breeding with jotuns to achieve certain results.

Odin has sex with the jotun woman Jord (which means Earth) specifically to create Thor. Later he force himself on another jotun woman to create a god of hatred and vengeance (which also results in the gods banishing Odin from Valhalla for several years because a man would be punished just for touching a woman’s arm without her consent at the time and Loki later seems to claim Odin spent a lot of those years as a woman, birthing several children himself)

Jotuns also have a reputation for birthing monsters and animals but it mostly seems to happen when they breed with non-jotuns. Loki is half jotun/half Æsir and creates a eight legged horse with another horse, has normal children with his jotun wife, but also creates a giant wolf, a huge snake and a half-dead woman with another jotun woman. Then there’s the jotun king who gives birth to nine normal wolves after sleeping with a werewolf (they were together for years and it’s not made clear if it was a repeat thing where he birthed them one at a time or if he gave birth to a litter of pups all at once)

A jotun woman had three husbands, two jotun men and one Æsir god. She was the embodiment of night and he was the god of twilight and together they created the god of daylight.

Surprisingly a jotun man with a troll woman was considered the most ideal combination. One great warrior was described as beautiful and cleaver like his jotun father but strong and fierce in battle like his troll mother.

Because Loki himself was mixed race you never knew what you’d get from his “adventures” but otherwise it seems like you could expect some relatively predictable outcomes by mixing and matching jotun genes with other races.

-You were fussing, holding onto a teething ring, whining as you watched Lu Bu, Thor, Kojiro, Leonidas, Raiden, and Shiva all headed outside to go to the training grounds.

-Adam, who was sitting with you, followed your gaze, “They will be back Y/N. They’re just going to train.” You called out, hearing that word, knowing what it meant, and you wanted to go with, hitting the ground before for you, looking excited.

-Odin couldn’t help but smile softly, as he could tell you were going to be a warrior one day, when you wanted to go to the training grounds too, despite not being able to walk yet.

-Brunnhilde smiled softly, as the three of them were the ones who were watching you today, “Would you like to play another game Y/N?”

-You babbled out angrily, pointing at the door, wanting to go with the warriors. Loki popped up, “Yeah you tell her Y/N!” Brunnhilde and Odin both glared at him, seeing the trickster hyping you up while Adam pulled you into his arms.

-You fussed, squirming lightly as you didn’t want to be held, you wanted to go outside with the others, “Come now Y/N- don’t fuss.” You whimpered, your hands out towards the door, giving him big puppy dog eyes, hoping that he would relent and give you what you wanted.

-It was ten minutes later, the warriors were all sparring before they heard Odin, “LOKI!!!” which caused them all to pause before Loki, who was cackling with amusement, flew down with you in his arms, delighted squeals leaving you.

-Eyes went wide, seeing Odin, Brunnhilde, and Adam chasing after him, realizing Loki had ‘kidnapped’ you from them.

-Once on the training grounds, despite not doing anything, you were content, gnawing on your teething ring, seeing the warriors spar.

-You were sitting on Odin’s lap, while Brunnhilde were scolding Loki nearby, who was pouting, several steaming lumps on his head.

-Odin sighed softly, patting your head gently, “I hope you won’t be a troublemaker like Loki.” You looked up, cooing softly, not understanding what he meant, and he prayed you never did.
