Two shirts that don’t exist but I would absolutely wear:
1. A mystic standing on a yoga mat in warrior 2 or something with like, a water bottle and blocks and stuff nearby. Like it’s just a mystic from the Dark Crystal doing yoga. Doesn’t need to say anything. This would be my yoga shirt for all the yoga classes I go to, which are almost entirely free yoga in the park situations
2. A skeksis holding a goblet with one of those vastly irritating wine mom jokes printed to the side. There’s no scenario in which wearing this would not be at least somewhat confusing and/or annoying to the people around me, which would be part of the point

Natives AU towns
UrRu towns aesthetic (the capital is located at the same Valley of the Mystics in canon and the "Master's palace" is that canon troglodyte "town", the cliffs around serving as natural walls, so are most Mystic palaces)
Always within nature either tailored in hills and rocks, sunlight and plants in the streets, houses even the fanciest richest ones never look too high and are simple because most Mystics are out of towns and can live as hermits anyway, sober colors but Thra sigils and charms painted or carved on every houses for protection
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Skeksis towns aesthetic (the Castle of the Crystal named "Imperial castle" instead and far from the Crystal is the same kind of architecture for castles in general)
Built from A to Z over nature, complex-looking with buildings and houses being higher and higher because modt Skeksis come and stay in towns for good careers so it has to welcome the most plausible ready to pay anything even if it a shitty house which ends up shadowing the streets but they have street lights and fancy colors although all that activity ends up causing fog the paints to wear off and darken

The War of the Worlds
The story opens with the Sarmaks, a subterranean alien race who live on Mars, plotting an invasion of Earth since their resources are dwindling.
The main narrative begins when an object crashes near the town of Hyannis, Massachusetts. The object is discovered by 13-year-old Nicky Herbert, along with several others, to be an artificial, cylindrical craft, the top of which begins to unscrew. The next morning, as Nicky brings her older sister, Deana, to visit the impact site, where a large crowd has gathered, the lid falls off, and Sarmaks emerge from the cylinder. As a group of police officers and U.S. government agents attempt to approach the cylinder to make contact, the Sarmaks obliterate them using a heat ray. The sisters flee with the crowd. Later, as mechanical noises are heard from the pit, U.S. Marines later surround the site, as reports pour in of more cylinders landing all over Earth. In the Sarmak's camp, Zerkan, the frail leader of the invasion, dies suddenly. Two of the Sarmaks, rivals Maol and Probox, challenge each other for succession, resulting in Maol defeating Probox, who is cast out to die. Meanwhile, the Herberts join an evacuation to West Dennis, but Nicky is separated from her family in the chaos. She boards a bus which is soon attacked by a three-legged Sarmak war machine. These "Tripods" have already wiped out the marines around the cylinder. After barely escaping with her life, Nicky encounters a group of children who have also been separated from their families: Duncan Best, Giada Fisk, and the autistic Sloan Brennan. The cunning Probox, witnessing this, begins stalking the children, who attempt to escape towards West Dennis, only to be caught in a crossfire between human soldiers and Sarmaks. They are nearly captured, but Probox intervenes, keeping the Tripod from pursuing them by killing its pilot, Leciac. Meanwhile, as the world's capitals fall to the invaders, experts predict total world domination in just weeks. The government thus authorizes the use of nuclear weaponry fired from the U.S. battleship Thunderchild. However, it proves ineffective, as the Sarmaks protect themselves with force shields, allowing them to easily destroy the Thunderchild. The children travel to Yarmouth, where they find it on the verge of being overrun with the genetically-engineered Red Weed. They are interrupted by Probox, who reveals that Mars' decline of resources was the reason for the human genocide while trying to trick them into coming with him to his camp. Distrusting him, the children hide in an empty house, and are nearly buried by yet another crashing cylinder. They remain undetected until a probe sent by Probox catches them sleeping, causing Sloan to flee outside only to be abducted by the tripod. Chasing after the tripod, the other three grab a belt of grenades from an overgrown Humvee, then intentionally allow themselves to be abducted. In the Sarmaks' camp, Probox is reinstated for his actions, while the children witness adults being selected from a squat, spider-like "Handling Machine" to be harvested, with the Sarmaks intending to raise the other captive children as livestock. With the help of the other abductees, along with a female Martian biped who is one of the last of the livestock brought from Mars, Nicky's group destroys the camp with the grenades, killing the Sarmak scientist Detzu in the process. Joined by the biped, named "Ivory" by Sloan, the children steal one of the Sarmaks' flying machines to use as transport to West Dennis, only to find it under attack by Tripods led by Maol and Probox. Shot down by a heat ray, they find Nicky's family taking refuge in a church among many praying and injured survivors. Just as the Tripods near the church, they suddenly lose power and collapse. Maol is already dead, with Probox expiring soon after. The rest of the Sarmaks abandon Earth soon afterwards.
As Nicky and her new friends return to their families and their normal lives, it is explained that the Sarmaks were slain by the countless microbes inhabiting the Earth, to which they had no immunity; only Ivory and the Martian bipeds abandoned on Earth were spared because of their similar genetic makeup to humans, allowing them to both live and thrive as free individuals.

MEEPET - DARK/DRAGON
MEEPET suddenly appear one day in the bedrooms of young children. If they find a child crying, they'll wipe their tears with their pelts and try to make them laugh by acting out in silly ways.
Some believe MEEPET are born from children's nightmares , but have a change of heart and vow to make them happy instead. To keep from frightening them, it hides under a soft animal-like cloth.
TENDRAPET - DARK/DRAGON
Under their soft pelt, they have a frighteningly strong body. However, they strongly dislike fighting, as they are very docile- that, and it puts their pelts at risk of being damaged.
They are very gentle and usually good-spirited, but if one were to try and look under their furry cloth they'll go into a panic. It loves nothing more than to bring joy to others.
---
for @scarffles fakemon community prompt, a cute fuzzy dragon
based on the entirety of hensons puppetography from sesame street to dark crystal- mainly insprired by people seeing the dark crystal maybe a little too young and being scared by it, mystics/skeksis (mostly mystics), sheep and dog puppets, and gentle dragons

idk how to say this without sounding really boomer-ey, but like, what happened to horror content for kids? maybe i’m using the word “horror” a little liberally but i remember when i was a kid there was SO much out there that existed solely for the purpose of scaring kids in a safe, fun, age-appropriate way. just off the top of my head there’s goosebumps, scary stories to tell in the dark, tales from the crypt (little before my time though), coraline, mirror mask, monster house, dark crystal (more incidentally scary but w/e), even courage the cowardly dog; all these really fantastic books and shows and movies that let kids explore being scared on their own terms.
now there’s idk, those new addams family movies? but those aren’t really scary.
i see people talking about the “kid-ification” of horror games and i can’t help but wonder if part of the reason kids latch onto that stuff so much now is because there’s nowhere else for them to experience healthy, safe fear. a little kid wants to get the thrill of being scared, but their parents won’t let them watch any actual horror movies, so they go on youtube and what do you know, there’s markiplier playing another cheap horror game set in a toy store or whatever, and now that kid’s fear quota is being met. (obviously there’s more to it than that, but it’s a theory i have)
this like, doesn’t really matter probably but idk, i feel bad that ~kids these days~ aren’t getting the experience of something scary made specifically for them with their genuine enjoyment in mind, rather than whatever the next fnaf ripoff is that just wants to sell them merch. being a kid and watching a well-made scary movie feels like you’re finally being taken seriously; you’re not being babied or coddled, you’re being trusted to face the skeksis and the other mother and the nebbercracker house and not back down. i wish people were still making media that respected kids that much.

[Matt: What are your favorite GM snacks?]
Brennan:
"Let me be clear. This was put into this fucking questionnaire to come for me. And I'm going to explain something. If you're at home and you're afraid to tell your gaming group that you're a snacker, I've got your back, okay? Because it's okay to fucking snack, all right? When you're out there--some of us SWEAT from the MOMENT we wake up to the moment we go to sleep. Some of our boooddiiess are betraying us constantly. Would I have chosen this paper white, fur covered, constantly sweating body? No! I wouldn't have. Does it require constant almonds? YES. Almonds all the time, okay? And I'm not going to apologize because these two fucking elevated beings, these two hovering (what are the pre-Skeksis, pre-mystic light beings from the Dark Crystal?)--YOU TWO! SOME OF US ARE POD PEOPLE, OKAY? I'm a little PODDLING. And I need to snack! If I could have another MOUTH in my back so that I could--the BIGGEST obstacle in my GM-ing, ALL RIGHT, is that the same place I talk from is where the food needs to go!"
[Matt: well we know what to get him for christmas]
"A mouth in my back! So that I can have a friend shoveling SALAMI into an open furnace in my torso while I narrate. AND I'M NOT SORRY. I LIKE TO SNACK.
.......
To answer your question, almonds."

In 2019 I drew skeksis from 'dark crystal' in the Don Bluth's artstyle. I haven't touched them since then, but I've been thinking a lot about it. Now that I feel comfortable with animation, I thought I could try myself on them. I got pretty lazy on this one, but I wanted to try it.
