I want a divorce - Thomas Shelby x OFC
A/N: This is something I’ve been playing with for a long time, and wanted to share with you. Don’t know if something will come out of it, but I liked this little piece so... hope you enjoy.
Some warnings before we start: this is set on season one’s last episode, after they’ve taken down Billy Kimber, probably around the scene where Tommy and Polly are talking and drinking the champagne at the Garisson. There’s references/implied cheating, it doesn’t get down into details though.
Please, do tell me what you think of it.
Tommy watched her holding the baby in awe—their baby, he almost couldn’t believe it. Despite having given birth just a few hours ago Laura looked so beautiful, a goddess in his eyes.
She was sitting on their bed, leaning against the pillows propped up on the headboard. Their daughter, Ava, wrapped in a creamy colored blanket and securely held in her arms. Laura caressed the baby’s cheek, gently, with the point of her index finger, a smile gracing her lips for a brief moment.
“You’ve gone to see her.”
The statement took him by surprise, but not more than the hardness in her eyes. He wasn’t expecting a confrontation that soon, not when she was still exhausted from the birth, not when she still had their daughter in her arms.
“She’s gone,” he announced, simply, trying to avoid the subject.
“I want a divorce.”
Tommy froze, breath caught in his throat as he looked at her, astonished.
“You can’t be serious,” he protests, and then adds more firmly, “She’s gone, Laura.”
“It doesn’t change the fact that you went looking for her when I was here, screaming in pain, giving birth to our daughter alone.”
Laura didn’t raise her voice; she didn’t need to. Tommy felt like his wife had just slapped him across the face.
She continued, “I won’t force the guilty of keeping a broken marriage together on our daughter. I won’t raise her to know that her parents only stayed together, in a loveless marriage, because of duty. No child deserves it and no child of mine will suffer it.”
“Our marriage isn’t loveless.”
“Isn’t it? Who are we kidding, Tommy? We are not the same since you came back. We are not the same since you left. Whores in France, Lizzie when you came back, now the barmaid, who will be next?”
“One whore in France,” he argued, “And I told you that Lizzie was a mistake. I’ve never fucked Grace.”
“Probably out of guilt, because you wanted to. She wanted to, you both made that quite clear.”
“Laura, be reasonable…”
“I am being reasonable. I’m doing what’s best for me and our daughter.”
Ava wailed at the slightly raise in her mother’s voice and Laura shushed the tiny baby quickly, before returning his attention to him again.
“Polly wanted to go after you and Grace, after the races. I said to her that there was no use, that I wouldn’t give you an easy way out of your responsibilities, but the moment she placed our daughter in my arms I knew, Tommy. I knew that I had to put myself first because I have to take care of her and she will learn from me that no man is worth your happiness.”

i always love y’all’s takes on suki (i’m particularly fond of stoner suki lmao) + i think she’s so compelling and cool and needs to be talked about more, so i was wondering if you have any suki headcanons or thoughts that you really like/want to talk about! this is maybe too vague so not necessarily JUST suki, but suki related anything. no one does it like her 😔
i love talking about suki she’s such an interesting character even from the little we see of her. ppl often seem to interpret her for some reason as some stone cold serious badass which is so blatantly untrue like she’s so fun and playful and witty and extremely open-minded. like not only did she immediately forgive sokka for his gender essentialist bullshit, but she also forgave zuko for literally burning down her village. i think growing up in a significantly less patriarchal society made her not hate men, which is very admirable of her. absolutely can’t relate.
another thing abt suki that ppl don’t seem to recognize for some reason is that while, yes, sokka adores his girlfriend, suki also adores her boyfriend!! i think ppl tend to apply the label of beleaguered voice of reason to female characters admonishing men’s stupid antics, which is not only sexist, but generally inaccurate. like i’ve seen a lot of ppl say that suki (and mai) did everything at the boiling rock, and sokka and zuko are just useless idiots, which again, is not only inaccurate (need i remind you that sokka came up with two separate successful escape plans), but also sexist! suki is not sokka’s nagging housewife trapped in a loveless marriage with some brainless buffoon. their relationship is founded on love and respect on both sides. and besides, sokka drank hallucinogenic cactus juice by accident, because he was parched in a desert; suki would drink that cactus juice on purpose. if anything, she’s a bad influence on him (and by bad i mean good bc he rly needs to loosen up lmao)
i think suki ty lee & mai would be such a powerful trio, and then add toph & sokka and boom u got urself a perfect friendgroup. dykes + their token man. they run around the earth kingdom going to see terrible plays on purpose and earthbending tournaments and cringe open mics and crashing haiku clubs and just generally having a great time being mean in a charming way, and absolutely hilarious. engaging in the kind of activities aang katara & zuko would never possibly enjoy. suki’s also friends with them ofc. they’re all very fun in their own ways too. especially aang, whom suki is extremely fond of. she loves kissing his little bald head. she can’t help it! he has an arrow on his forehead pointing directly to where one should apply kisses! she is simply obeying orders!!! suki is like aang’s cool big sister, and aang is suki’s perfect angel baby brother, and they are the best of friends <3
sometimes suki, katara, aang, & zuko will have a south pole slumber party, and sokka & toph aren’t invited because toph claims “slumber parties are for little girls” and she “[isn’t] a little girl” (debatable), and sokka doesn’t understand why anyone would stay up late to talk to their friends when you could go to sleep at a reasonable hour, alone. unfortunately sokka gets no sleep that night anyway bc he can hear them shriek-giggling all the way from katara’s room, & whenever he goes over there to ask them to keep it down, they’re like “ok sorry sokka” and then five minutes later resume their shrieking. suki climbs into sokka’s bed later that night anyway, because apparently, aang airbends in his sleep, and he accidentally flung her across the room. that, and she missed him :-)
