for some reason i’m getting a ton of those “ao3 should/should not be an app” posts in my feed and i just need to say, you guys are fighting the wrong battle

what we need is the ability to assign or +1 certain tags to emphasize when a fic is giving us what we want. like some of you have never spent three fucking weeks searching for the perfect soulmate au on a search of the general “soulmates” tag, only to find it in the shape of some three chapter, 50k fanfic with 100 kudos and only three tags to its name but none of them even vaguely related to the word “soulmates” and it shows

😑: How easily do they get jealous and how do they handle it?

Eclair tends to not get jealous. Yes, she'll get that little irritable feeling when someone is a little too close to Neuvillette with a few specific intentions, but then she remembers: this is Neuvillette. If his body language doesn't give them enough of a hint that he 1. isn't interested and 2. is trying to work with them in a professional capacity, he's not afraid to say as much.

Neuvillette on the other hand...oof.

His jealousy isn't loud - it's quite tame really - but it simmers just under his skin. He's not fond of the feeling and more often than not tries to ignore it. It usually works, but there are times that ignoring it only makes it worse. Blame his draconic nature for his reactions; he's always just a tinge closer to Eclair when those pangs of jealousy hit. Offering his assistance more openly so others can see that Eclair can rely on him, resting a hand in the small of her back, just above her vision (another source of jealousy that he's not yet ready to address with her); though his most "extreme" action would probably be scenting her. Always in private, previously a more embarrassing thing to admit he was doing such a thing. It's not the same as a bonding mark and isn't detectable by normal humans, but anyone with a sensitivity towards the elements (including other dragons) will be able to feel it. And that's satisfactory enough for him.

🐱: Do they have pet names for each other, if so what are they? How does their partner feel about their pet name?

I think I talk about Eclair affectionately calling Neuvillette "old man" or "mon vieux" on the regular LMAO. Neuvillette doesn't dislike the names, they just used to confuse him. He's not that old in comparison to the age of several other beings in Teyvat, but he supposes in reference to Eclair’s age he's rather "old". It took awhile (and several conversations with Wriothesley) for him to understand that Eclair was using it as a term of endearment and not calling him geriatric. Now though, even if the little furrow in his brow deepens just a bit whenever Eclair says it, it always settles warmly in his chest. He starts noticing something is wrong immediately if she doesn't use it in greeting or in normal conversation.

I've said before that Neuvillette is bad at petnames and doesn't use them because none of them have ever felt right to him, but I've recently gotten obsessed with him using "pluie" as a term of endearment. He already uses "detective" as a more public term of endearment (easier to hide when it's Eclair’s actual title), but there's something about him calling Eclair "pluie" that does something to me. Chalk it up to the rain meaning something so intimate to Neuvillette that he refers to his beloved by it, but it also shows how open and trusting he is with her now. He only uses the name when he's feeling particularly raw (whether it be from stress, exhaustion, or ecstasy) and it always makes Eclair fall silent. Prompts her closer, sometimes in order to comfort him. He's almost ashamed to admit how much he enjoys those moments.

💧: How well do they comfort each other when they’re upset?

Hmmm...I think they're both not the best at knowing the best thing to say in order to comfort someone and usually resort to being within each other's presence or, more recently, physical care for each other.

I like to think about Eclair helping Neuvillette down from particularly stressful days or heavy trials by helping him undress and running a bath for him. Sometimes she'll join him and sometimes she lingers a the edge of the tub and combs his hair. If he's feeling amicable, they might talk about it. But if theres a storm brewing, Eclair waits until its lightened to try and offer any words of comfort. But...undressing and running a bath has become a bit of a comforting routine for them both.

There's nothing suggestive or lewd in the actions and it tends to be more grounding for Neuvillette than anything else. As brutal as his work can be, especially now of all times, he always feels a hint of relief when Eclair comes and finds him afterwards.

It's kind of the same for Eclair. When she gets too stressed or overwhelmed, she needs something or someone quiet and grounding around her to keep her steady. She's normally level headed, but when her emotions get the best of her, you'll know. Neuvillette is one of the only constants that have been able to bring her back down from those moments; even just offering his office for her to be numb in for a moment or two is enough. Of course, he's also started picking up on when she need physical comfort and is always quick to take her up in his arms when he can sense that she needs it.

It's more than comforting for Eclair, if she's being honest. Sometimes she feels like she doesn't deserve it. But Neuvillette insists in that gentle tone and she just...melts. She stopped feeling bad about letting those rare tears sleep out when he holds her a long time ago.

Hi! Most historians agree that Edward III’s relationship with Alice was relatively discreet during Philippa’s life, with Alice gaining much more prominence and becoming a “quasi-queen” after her death. Outside court, this is probably true. But within court, I’m not sure if it was discreet in the sense that very few people knew about it, or discreet in the sense that their affair was an open secret which was unofficially known but officially unacknowledged. After all, Alice had a position at court in the queen's household in the 1460s, and gave birth to three of the King's children during that time*. We also know that Edward gave a formal order to support her as early as 1464**, and gave her several sweeping grants even during Philippa's life from 1467 that were clear marks of his favour. For example, she received a grant of two-thirds of the manor of "Monylawes" to hold for life and pass to her heirs, something that no other damsel at court ever received during his reign. Alice also illegally held John de Cobeham's manor without rent and without the king's license, something Edward not only pardoned her for but also allowed her to keep. There were a few other instances like this, and we don't know if they would have been unnoticed or overlooked or if they would have raised eyebrows and suspicions. Also, as W.M Ormrod points out, “one of the few pieces of evidence pointing to open scandal in the 1360s is the commentary written before 1372 by the friar John Erghome […] Erghome alluded to Alice Perrers as Delilah to Edward III’s Samson and Bathsheba to his King David".

I'm not sure about Philippa, but considering Alice's name was notably absent among the list of ladies who received bequests upon her death, she would have almost certainly been aware of Alice and Edward's relationship by then.

*Whether they were born at court or not is unknown. **This suggests that their relationship had been established and had been going on for a while at this point. Assuming it began after her first husband died, we know she was a widow from 1461-62, and so it could have begun anywhere between that time and 1464.

Deeply disappointed in staff's recent bouts of unprofessionalism

Like. they were never known for professionalism when interacting with their users to begin with, usually falling between "alright" and "bro what the fuck were you thinking"

But are they (or at the very least the community manager i guess) really so fuckin bored now that they've started picking fights off-site/stalking ppl off-site to take action against them on-site?? As far as I'm concerned, if someone says something about your site not on your site, it's none of your fuckin business, or at the very least not something you can take action against them for on your site. In an ideal world the answer would be to take it up with the moderators of the site the issue is taking place on, which yeah sure this is tumblr so that won't happen, but their response of "you said something mean about us on your social media, stop that :(" is still childish at best

The way people treat the lightrail here… it’s like they think you’re at risk of getting shivved every time you ride

In the before time (2015~2019) I’d take the neighborhood circulator shuttle bus to the lightrail station and then take the train to my office building, I never once got shivved. There was the memorable time I glanced at another person’s phone and immediately recognized that she was on AO3 🤣 I think the most interaction I had with a rando on the train was when someone recognized the work logo on my polo shirt and told me that’s where he has his bank accounts

How does the meteor itself work? And also because Roxy seems to be accepted without a lot of confusion in a public space, how does that work? Did the meteor affect everything really widely and so there’s a lot more various creatures (affectionate) roaming around? Or are they just a part of the setting normally?

Gonna answer this now before I dive into the SB CDs I've... just not looked at for some reason yet...

The Meteor is a large question mark in universe generally speaking. As it fell, it was only detected very shortly before the impact, and when it hit, the quake was huge.

It sends blue waves of energy out at seemingly random intervals, with the first one happening seconds after impact. These waves spread out around the entire planet. Scientists don't really know what it's doing, it freaks people out and all they're figuring is mostly inconsequential. They learn within about a month that the energy in the waves hones in on whatever's moving at the time, so new guidelines tell people to lie on the floor whenever it's possible to stay as still as possible. They've set up a detection system and can now send public alerts shortly before the waves hit, but this is about it. In terms of what it physically is, the general populace has no idea.

What it's doing is generally interesting. It starts off very much overlooked and unnoticed. It makes very tiny changes that would never be noticed by anyone but one or two individuals. A nudge here, an opening there, or maybe a little glimmer of hope and magic over there... it's not clear what it's doing exactly until the more obvious stuff starts to happen.

A man has a cat tail. A woman has a three headed dog. A child's teddy bear made sure they didn't get lost. There was a report of a unicorn sighting on Thursday and a carousel pony whinnied at it's cheerful rider. Most importantly to the story, animatronics previously thought to be mindless and glorified action figures, have started to come to life.

Now, as with everything, this isn't met with no resistance. People are of course, scared of the changes and scared of what could happen. The Meteor has not harmed, but what if it did? What could it do?? Where did it come from and how do we stop it??? There's pushback, because of course there is! This shit is scary!

But more and more, opinions are changing from the lack of people actually getting hurt and the overwhelming positives they're experiencing. By the time the story starts, it's been going on for a while now. People are irritated by the waves more than scared, and how they treat what they create and what changes is almost entirely individual. There are some protections and support for those that are changed by the meteorite, but its effectiveness, how it's applied, and the specific criteria to receive it is uh... kinda varied? The criteria is more solid but generally, it's a fragile support system that's been developed for the general human populace and is being applied onto people that are more often than not, not human.

All this to say, that the meteorite has not changed individuals or society on a large scale like that. It does effect people and the world, but it doesn't go into a sort of 'perfect world' kind of thing that forcibly makes the world better. What it does is generally small. It doesn't really effect anyone that isn't directly involved, hence how before big visual changes started happening, what it was doing went largely unnoticed.

So, when this story would start, things would be in a sort of normal. How Roxy is treated by general society after her change is largely based on who she's interacting with. I've not really spoken too much I don't think about what Roxy's experiences outside of Eddie and Cassie are, but they're fairly mixed? I haven't really put her in many situations yet where she would need to interact much with other people honestly, and the few times I have? It's been one of Eddie's friends, part of Cassie's family, Vanessa, Fazbear staff or a general employee somewhere that isn't paid enough to care anyway. The only other interactions of interest she has at the moment, are like... with animatronics that wouldn't care what she looks like and random animals like the neighbours collie dog she plays with at the park sometimes.

I suppose the long and the short is, there are some people that are used to this stuff by now, are enthusiastic about it, fear it enough to avoid it, wary about it, and some that are too busy writing angry Twotter threads about how the government doesn't just explode the meteorite and stop this nonsense or something. Roxy is accepted in public spaces, but her experiences vary depending on who she actually encounters and what not.

In terms of the Meteorite, I've told you about as much as the general populace knows in this setting. It's changing things, making things real and giving little nudges here and there. Ultimately, these changes effect no one but the individual, and many people have come to realise that now. The Meteorite is not a public threat, but it certainly could be, and a lot of people want it gone, while a lot of people don't. It effects the entire world and it's opposition and defence ranges from location to location, but largely, whether everyone likes it or not, this has become the new normal.

Whether it stays the new normal, is anyone's guess, but this is just what they have to deal with now.
