HI hello I’m LOOKING!! at the sentence starters prompts!! if u want either “i wish i met you sooner” or “do you remember when we first met?” for zukka <33 (but i’ll eat up anything you write tbh)
For this prompt game! (And also this one!)
“Oh, shit,” Sokka blurts out, “I think I’m in love with you.”
“Are you now,” Zuko rolls his eyes, pretending he isn't biting back a laugh as he tugs the Jasmine Dragon’s door closed behind him and tosses Sokka the keys to the bakery case.
“I mean, at the very least I wish I met you sooner.” Sokka catches the keys without even glancing away from the pastries on display—which is strangely but undeniably hot—looking utterly besotted—which is strangely but undeniably cute. “I could’ve been getting this every night.”
“And what’s what you’d want from me every night, huh,” Zuko says, dry, leaning back against the counter as Sokka approaches the glass display with something like reverence.
“I mean.” Sokka gives Zuko a quick, grinning once over. “I’d settle for some other things, too.”
Zuko hums, neutral, keeping his face unimpressed even as he feels the thrill of flirting in his chest, the thrill of a date gone well and long and the whole night suddenly stretching out in front of them. “You’d settle for it, would you.”
“Oh yeah,” Sokka says, tossing a wolfish grin over his shoulder before refocusing with what Zuko is realizing is a singular kind of intensity on the food in front of him. “I’d settle for it real good. Now—what do you suggest? What’s good?”
“It’s all good,” Zuko says, automatic and rote after so many years working here and apparently obvious enough about it that Sokka gives him a sideways, knowing look.
“What do you like to eat?”
…He wouldn’t think it would be a dealbreaker, but then he’s never seen someone eat so much ramen with so much enthusiasm before. “I don’t really eat sweets,” he admits after a beat.
“Your loss,” Sokka shrugs, unconcerned. “Just means more for me,” he adds, low and throaty and running a slow, admiring finger down the line of the display case which…again, strangely but undeniably hot.
Mai is going to absolutely roast the shit out him for this, when she finds out about it.
“But what do you want to watch me eat, then?” Sokka asks, giving Zuko another flirting kind of smirk, and Zuko pauses again, hesitating.
Not that it’s an automatic dealbreaker for him, but, “Like as a kink thing?”
“Do you want it to be?” Sokka replies without missing a beat, and Zuko stares a moment longer before deciding they can circle back to that later.
“How about an éclair,” Zuko suggests, tone somewhere between casual and challenging and something delighted fizzing in his chest when Sokka glances into the case and immediately gets the picture, his expression wicked and amused in equal turns as he pulls out the length of pate-a-choux.
“Is it already filled?” Sokka murmurs, eyes half-lidded as he admires the pastry.
“Yeah,” Zuko says, hearing his own voice going even huskier and…very aware that that look is really doing it for him already. “Crème pat.”
“Perfect,” Sokka grins, holding Zuko’s eyes and biting into the éclair with a suggestiveness he really has no right to when he’s biting pieces off. Zuko watches, caught, as Sokka gives little kitten licks of his tongue, dripping cream, parting his lips against the crisp dough. And then Zuko watches, caught in a whole different way, as Sokka becomes more and more exaggerated until he’s full on bobbing up and down the pastry.
“Interesting technique,” Zuko says, half laughing, trying to keep a straight face as Sokka shows off his apparent lack of gag reflex.
“So I’ve been told,” Sokka says as he pulls off with a grin, wiping a streak of ganache off his face before taking a normal bite. “Mm, fucking amazing,” he says around the mouthful, innuendo gone from his tone but still more than suggestive as he groans around another bite, looking blissed out and slack faced and suddenly Zuko has a vision of Sokka looking exactly like that as he— “You make these?”
“Sometimes,” Zuko says, clearing his throat.
“You make this one?”
“Yeah.” He made it this afternoon. With Uncle standing next to him. And Ty Lee working the register. Uncle who works here every day. And Ty Lee who has known him since before he got over his lisp is best friends with Azula. And maybe if he reminds himself of both of those facts enough right now, he’ll be able to work tomorrow without getting hard.
Sokka hums, looking impressed as he glances around the kitchen space, and Zuko embraces the warm flush of pleasure at the idea of anything so mundane as working in the Jasmine Dragon being worth a look like that. “You wear an apron when you do it? The baking?”
“Sometimes,” Zuko shrugs, following Sokka’s glance to the neat row of aprons hanging by the sink.
“Hm. You ever wear one with nothing else on underneath?” Sokka asks, faux causal and all sidelong smolder that has Zuko abruptly deciding that maybe risking wayward erections during work tomorrow isn’t quite so bad.
“When I’m not here?” Zuko says, letting his eyes go half-lidded as he gives Sokka slow, thorough once over before catching his gaze again. “Sometimes.”
“I can’t wait to see that,” Sokka says, finishing off the éclair, “If that’s not too forward to say on a first date.”
“You just fellated an éclair in front of my,” Zuko points out, dry, even as anticipation sparks in his chest, “I think we might be past forward.”
“I did, didn’t I,” Sokka grins, holding Zuko’s eyes as he licks his fingers clean, “Anything else you’d like me to fellate?”
“Oh,” Zuko says, making a show of considering it, possibility and the slow winding tension between them a comfortable burn in his veins, the knowledge of where tonight is going to go but with no particular urgency to get there, to give up this one moment for the next, “I have an idea or two.”
“Or two?” Sokka murmurs, head cocking as he sidles back up to Zuko, intent and invitation in the angle of his body.
“Oh yeah,” Zuko smolders back, hooking Sokka’s belt look and tugging him gently in, savoring the easy way Sokka lets himself be pulled forward, the feel of Sokka’s hands coming to rest against Zuko’s chest. “How do you feel,” he murmurs low into Sokka’s ear, anticipation sharp in his veins, “About cannolis.”

Science Project
Tumblr media
not requested hehe- enjoy my first enemies to lovers type thing sakldfjlkfsd!!! ILY ILY ILY <33
Pairing: Sokka x Reader
Genre: enemies to lovers baybeeeeeeeee
Word count: 1.4k :)
Warnings: okay uhm the reader has hospital trauma, BUUUT it’s told from sokka’s pov, so nothing is really described!! she does have some sort of a panic attack, so i would read w/ caution in case this triggers you!
Summary: Two enemies, Sokka and Y/N get partnered for a science project...
Tumblr media
“Alright everyone, here are your partners for the upcoming science project.” The science teacher gestured to the board. Sokka squinted to see who he got partnered with. He hoped it was one of his friends, like Aang, or Suki. He would even settle for Toph.
Sokka and...Y/N.
Out of everyone in his class, he had to get partnered with the person he hated the most: Y/N. He didn’t even know why he hated her so much. It wasn’t the way she looked or anything; in fact, he thought she was actually quite cute.
Sokka heard Y/N sigh next to him.
“Looks like we’re partners,” she said, with a sad tone.
“I don’t like this any more than you do.” She rolled her eyes and faced the teacher once again.
She sighed again when the teacher told everyone to work on their projects with their partner after school.
“At this rate, you’ll be sighing all day,” Sokka commented, earning another sigh from her. She shook her head and began to speak.
"I'll pick you up and we can work on it at my house," she offered. Sokka scoffed.
"Nope, no way I'm going into your home. We'll work at the library near my house," Sokka said. Y/N shrugged and headed out the door, getting to her next class.
Hours later, the final bell rang, signaling that the classes were over for the day. Sokka jumped out the door, relieved the day was over.
Oh. He still had the project to do. He cursed and luckily turned the corner to see Y/N walking by.
“Y/N! Hey, Y/N!” She turned at the sound of her name, but quickly turned around again, continuing to walk away as if nothing happened when she realized it was Sokka calling her. “We have the project, remember?” he called out. She froze, muttered something under her breath, and turned back around.
She reluctantly got into Sokka's car, and the two drove to their destination. However, they parked before they got to the library. Y/N looked confused.
"Why- why are we here?" Y/N gestured towards the sign saying "Ba Sing Se Hospital." Sokka rolled his eyes and grabbed her arm, leading her closer to the hospital, no matter how much she resisted. He tried to push her past the automatic doors; the smell of sanitizer and medicine was overwhelming even before they went in. He looked at Y/N, who was backing away, refusing to walk in.  Strange. She almost looked... panicked.
"I have a friend here that can give us some info for our project. Don't tell me you're scared of hospitals," he said, annoyed. No response. Instead, she turned around and walked the other way.
"Hey! Come back here," Sokka yelled. When she didn't respond, he rolled his eyes, and followed her. "Y/N, come on." He hit her side playfully, and she stumbled.
"Jerk," she muttered.
"Come on, I didn't even hit you that hard. Let's go."
"Uh- no. N-no thanks." Was her voice... shaking? Peering at Y/N, she seemed to have trouble breathing; her breaths were quick and uneven. Suddenly, she swayed to one side, almost toppling over and tripping on herself, making Sokka instinctively reach out to catch her. She leaned on the hospital’s exterior wall next to her, closing her eyes, still breathing heavily.
“What, are you faking?” he said with a scoff, but he couldn't deny that he was starting to get concerned. He got closer to Y/N. "Umm... are- are you okay?"
“Get... get off me...” she whispered, not having enough energy to speak up or completely push him away. Oh... she was actually not okay.
Sokka, despite her efforts to push him away, got closer, trying to see what was wrong.
"Sokka... I just told you to get off." She sounded tired, and her voice was quiet. Y/N was nearing tears, and Sokka was unsure how to respond. He chose to get off of her, and she huffed, but she rubbed her forehead, sighing.
Y/N sank into the ground, sitting into a fetal position, now unable to stay standing, and she rested her head on her knees. She ran her fingers through her hair, trying to get some sort of grip.
“Should- should I go get a doctor?” Sokka pointed towards the hospital doors. She shook her head, looking up breathlessly.
“No!" she yelled. Sokka gave a quizzical look, and she cleared her throat. "No... I’ll be fine.” She took deep breaths and wrung her hands, making Sokka frown. What's wrong?
"Would it be better if we went back into my car?" Sokka asked. Y/N nodded weakly, so Sokka helped her up, but her knees buckled, and Sokka raced to catch her again.
"Actually-" Y/N sat back down with a huff. "I- I can't walk right now, just... just give me a second." She ran her fingers through her hair again.
"O-oh. If you're comfortable, I can just carry you; you look like you're getting worse." It was true; Sokka was actually worried for Y/N, despite how much he claimed to hate her. She flinched when he reached out to her, making him hesitate, but eventually she nodded, and Sokka picked her up, bridal style.
Her body was shaking, and her chest was going up and down as she tried to breathe. They reached his car, and he placed her down into the passenger seat.
"I'm sorry," she whispered.
"No, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought you here. Do... do you have something with hospitals or something?" She stayed silent.
"Just... just a lot of trauma." Her eyes were looking outside the window, refusing to meet Sokka's. She cleared her throat, and quickly changed the subject, trying to get rid of the awkward tension in the car. "Any- anyways. Project?"
"Yeah, if you're up for it. Buckle up.” He drove to the library as quickly as possible. When he got there, there were no parking spaces. “Shoot.” He drove two streets down, finally finding a spot to park. “Sorry, it’s a bit far.”
“Alright,” she hoisted on her backpack. “Let’s go.” She hopped out of the car and started the walk towards the library. He sighed, and jogged to catch up with her.
Hours later, Y/N put her pen down and stretched, her chair squeaking. Looking at his phone, it was almost eight.
“I’m finally finished. Now, enough of this, and just...” She paused, looking for words to say. “...Remember to prepare for the presentation tomorrow. I’m going home.”
“See you... try to get some rest?” his voice went up at the end, asking a question. She rolled her eyes, but this time, with a playful smile. Hm. An improvement. He smiled to himself as soon as Y/N turned her back.
The next day started like every other, except for the fact that Sokka tried to cut back on his mean jokes, replacing them with somewhat loving ones. Thankfully, the two did great on their presentation, and so did the rest of their friends.
“Great job today!” Suki chirped. “Let’s celebrate with... some cake at the bakery?” Y/N clapped in delight.
“Yes! I’ll be right there.” She quickly packed up her things and grabbed her backpack. She jumped up at the table, and started to walk. Sokka laughed and decided to grab her backpack strap, making her grunt as she fell backwards. He stuck his tongue out with a smile as she glared at him, and she gave a sarcastic wave as she walked away, Sokka following close behind.
The walk to the bakery was nice, fun banter going on between the group. However, they happened to walk past the hospital from the day before. Y/N stumbled at the sight, but quickly tried to laugh it off. Of course, Sokka saw right through it. Thankfully they were going to just walk past-
“Oh, real quick, I have to check something with my nursing friend, can you guys wait for me in the waiting room? It’ll be quick, I promise.” Katara smiled, as she grabbed her bag, ready to go. Y/N’s mouth made an “o” shape, and Sokka saw her tense up.
“Uh, hey, Y/N? Let’s go for ice cream while we wait?” He pointed to the nearby ice cream shop, and her shoulders relaxed.
“Oh- yeah. Yes, of course!” Her eyes said a silent thank you as he pulled her away.
“Hm, nice to see you two getting along!” Aang chirped. Y/N smiled, as her and Sokka waved goodbye, heading to the ice cream shop together.

congressional debate zukka au
this is inspired by @owlsantuary‘s post i was a congressional debater in hs so here u go
sokka is captain of his school's debate team; he joined as a freshman bc he was like "a club that lets me expound on my opinions for five minutes straight? yes plz" and was good enough that he made captain as a sophomore when the previous one graduated
- the idea of "politicking" is really important in congressional bc it's how you get people to support your bills if you wrote them, or if you have a really good argument and want that bill to be higher on the docket (bc sometimes you run out of time)
- sokka absolutely OWNS at this bc he's that guy that everyone wants to be friends with and half the people he talks to don't even realize that he has an agenda
- he also makes actual friends with the people from rival schools bc that's just what he's like
- his assertiveness sometimes gets him into sticky situations bc ppl get offended by him cutting them off during question time, but it's usually bc theyre trying to run out the clock and he is NOT having that
- i always led tongue twister exercises at the start of every competition to get our voices warmed up and im imagining sokka and his team SHOUTING the "betty bought a bit of butter" one in the middle of the hallway and getting weird looks (if you haven't heard of it look it up it's HARD)
- he always gets full points for pathos (yes that's a real thing) bc he'll tell jokes abt his teacher dads or his sister but then he'll turn around and make his dumb joke into a big-picture argument about the value of education or something; sometimes it backfires though bc he makes a joke at the wrong time
- i think he’d struggle with arguing for opinions he doesn’t agree with…bc he has CONVICTIONS and is basically physically incapable of arguing against like. a climate change bill or something
- this means that he sometimes scores low bc he only argues what he agrees with
- zuko is research captain for his team, which happens to be no. 1 rivals with sokka's school
- he is the master of the rebuttal bc he loves nothing more than tearing holes in people's arguments
- he isn't the best at being adaptible if the debate takes a turn away from what he predicted/researched for, and he does have problems with looking down at his notes WAY too much (youre allowed notes but youre meant to make as much eye contact as possible), but he always shows up with exorbitant numbers of sources and flattens people with FACTS
- when he's not speaking he is the most awkward of the awkwards and he despises politicking bc it makes him feel self-conscious; this means that he honestly doesn't have v many friends besides his own team but at the same time everyone Knows Of him and the "oh SHIT zuko sozin is in my debate room im so screwed" whispers are real
- he's better at arguing whichever side of the debate is available instead of only sticking with his own beliefs, which allows him to rack up a ridiculous amount of points bc he's speaking every ten minutes
- he's also at least co-author, if not singular author, of like 80% of the bills his school submits for debate (which also contributes to everyone knowing his name)
- sokka and zuko had definitely heard of each other before they actually meet; sokka bc of zuko's Reputation (tm) and zuko bc ofc he'd know of the captain of their biggest rival
- also bc they're always getting called up at the awards ceremonies for best speaker awards (and best bill for zuko)
- they do NOT understand what's so great about the other...but also are Looking Respectfully bc debate requires formal wear and ofc zuko shows up in a tailored three-piece suit and sokka's probably wearing his dad's old suit but makes it look good anyway
- this changes the first time they're assigned to the same room and sokka bounds up to zuko to introduce himself and immediately stutters bc o god cute boy cuter up close and zuko thinks this is precious but also has no idea what to say and blurts out something dumb and then they both sit down and look Determinedly Away
- zuko is very surprised when he finds sokka is actually kinda funny and even tho he thinks that him only arguing one side is disadvantageous he's also v impressed by the strength of it (and oh my god a good family relationship what???)
- sokka is floored by zuko bc his speeches literally sound like poetry with sources (insert that line from rwrb that's like "'see attached bibliography' is the single sexiest thing youve said to me")
- and THEN...they both get to go to the captains' lunches which is where they really sit and talk for the first time over pizza and sodas and maybe exchange numbers :0
- there is definitely "fraternization with the enemy" talk from their teams mostly joking but also sokka youre CAPTAIN you cant do that hes ZUKO SOZIN PLS STOP (spoiler: he doesnt care)
- it takes ages and ages for them to progress past being friends but they always sit together at captains' lunches and sometimes their teams....sit close at awards...and they trash talk and flirt across the bleacher dividers......
- it all comes to a head at the state competition which both teams make it to and they're both REAL nervous the night before and run into each other in the hotel lobby and it turns into them sitting up half the night talking and theyre both exhausted on competition day but it's ok bc coffee is a thing
- and then oh shit....sokka qualifies for nationals and zuko doesn't but someone else on his team does......and everyone expects zuko to be mad about it and sure he's disappointed but also hes just so happy for sokka that it kinda overshadows it
- they sneak away from the celebration dinner that both teams just Happened to be at the same restaurant for (actually, the sponsor squad aka iroh, hakoda, and piandao definitely planned this) and make out outside and tell their friends to fuck off when they come looking for them; they've both been dancing around this forever they deserve it

wonder what she thinks of me
for @yuekiweek day 3: reunions | word count: 2.3k | read on ao3
“you need to buy your books suki!!” sokka lectures through the phone. last year suki didn’t buy the books for any of her classes and she was fine. she isn’t actually planning on buying books this year either, except now sokka’s roped her into coming to his book club and she can’t lie and say she doesn’t like to watch sokka rant about something dumb while enjoying the baked goods that sokka will have convinced his gran gran and his parents to make for them.
unfortunatley, this means suki has to brave the bookstore during some fancy author signing to try to buy the book sokka’s demanded everyone read for next week. he’s still talking through the phone, though suki’s mostly tuned him out. she’s normally much better at listening to sokka’s rants, but the bookstore is packed with awkward high school students and suki would rather not, at the moment. she slips around a table of overpriced waterbottles and planners and weaves past a random grandpiano over to one of the computers with the bookstore directory. “sokka,” suki asks as she almost trips over a four year old holding a picture book. “why did you have to send me to this bookstore at this time?”
there’s a huff on the other end of the line and suki sighs deeply, “suki, please you should be thankful! they’re running a special discount if you buy a tote bag to go with the book this weekend!!” well. okay, maybe suki collects tote bags and sokka is probably being a good friend. but suki hasn’t been to this store before, having not bothered with buying her textbooks last year and getting anything for fun as an ebook. but sokka believes in the experience of a physical copy or whatever, so tote bags and author signings it is.
suki puts her phone between her shoulder and ear as she sets her fingers onto the keyboard of the computer directory, “hey, what’s the name of the book again?”
“have you listened to anything i’ve ever said to you?” sokka asks her. suki can picture him in their apartment at his desk, doing something fancy with math as he coaches her through a bookstore, pinching the bridge of his nose out of frustration. suki doesn’t actually need him to tell her the name of the book, she just likes to rile him up sometimes. she types in the title. suki thanks him for his help, asks him if hes found his glasses yet (the same glasses she hid before she left) and hangs up with a smirk.
adaptation by malinda lo. there, young adult section. it’s supposedly sci fi thriller and sokka, though he lacks taste in most things, has always had solid book taste. suki looks around for the sign to section she needs and spots it, tucked behind a tech display and next to the little cafe. suki walks over, eager to grab her book and get out of the shop. she walks through the shelves searching for the author’s with the last name l. malinda lo. there, suki reaches out to pluck the book of the shelf, when the back of her hand brushes against someone else.
suki steps back, book in hand, to look at the girl next to her. she has brown hair in a pretty updo and really cute heart shaped beaded earrings. she looks familiar, but suki isn’t sure where she recognizes her from.
“hi,” the other girl says, her voice sounds like a princess. all bells and whistling wind.
“uh,” suki coughs, smiling crookedly and titling her head. “hi!”
the other girl giggles at her, but her smile is warm and suki finds herself settling. “i’m yue - so adaptation? what made you interested in it?”
“oh, my friend is hosting a book club and this is this months pick,” suki tells her. maybe she should have done a little more research on the book before she’d shown up. she hadn’t really pictured a bookstore as the spot to meet a cute girl.
“oh!” yue says, surprised. “i have the same one assigned for my book club. do you want to grab something to drink and let me tell you about it?”
“sure,” suki says, her smile growing even wider. “that sounds great”
yue winks at her as she grabs the same book of the shelf, “perfect, there’s this bubble tea place a block a way i want to show you.” yue turns on her heel, her hair falling onto her back as yue bounces in her steps. suki checks to make sure her flannel is neat and her docs are tied before hurrying after yue.
the two of them wait in line one behind the other at the register and yue flips through the display before the register of pins and pens and bookmarks. a rainbow lion turtle eraser set catches suki’s eye and she lifts it up to her face to look at it closer. it’s the type of thing aang would like, so suki puts it on top of her book when she gets to the register. after she picks out the simplest canvas tote bad (most of them have obnoxious book puns katara would make fun of her for months about) and pays, suki finds yue waiting by the door peeling a sticker off of a sticker sheet suki remembers seeing on the display.
“so,’ yue asks. “where do you want your sticker?”
suki blinks, “what?”
yue waves the - oh it’s a hello kitty sticker with fairy wings. suki blinks at it, “um. cute?” she gets a smile for her efforts and then yue leans in and grabs her wrist, turning suki’s hand around and carefully placing the sticker onto the back of suki’s right hand.
“so,” yue says, after failing once more to steal a drink of suki’s boba. her mouth is screwed up in a light pout, but it feels teasing. “do you go to ba sing se u?”
only a little while later, they are wandering to nowhere in particular, still holding hands. yue keeps trying to steal a sip of suki’s drink even though when suki ordered yue had made a face at the idea of coffee boba. yue’s own drink is sweet like her. strawberry, reportedly to match yue’s nails which are done up in a neat mimic of the fruit.
suki nods, squeezing yue’s hand and lifting her drink over her head, too high up for yue to reach, though that doesn’t stop yue from playfully batting at it. neither of them caring about what passerby might think as they wobble on the sidewalk smiling at each other full of silliness. “yeah, i’m majoring in gender and women's studies with a minor in literature and art.”
yue lights up, the way she’s done every time suki’s shared a fact with her. suki’s face feels flushed, yue makes her feel like she’s on her first date ever. “oh wow!” yue says. “i’m majoring in four nations politics with a minor in theology and spiritual studies but i would love to see what your classes must be like. i think i could be a student forever, you know?”
and then yue doesn’t let go of suki’s wrist. instead, she links their fingers together and suki watches their hands held together hang between them. she looks up and smiles at yue, stupidly happy for a moment. and really, suki doesn’t even know for sure if yue is into girls even if yue does seem to be flagging. for now, suki just lets yue tug her down the street as her phone buzzes in her new tote bag with texts from sokka she’ll ignore for now.
“hm, not really, i think one degree is enough for me. but academics are cute,” suki says, watching as yue swings their hands back and forth as they walk. they’re both absolutely terrible at walking together, suki’s noticed. they can’t seem to walk in a straight line and suki’s almost fallen off the sidewalk twice already. it’s nice. suki’s finding that yue makes her comfortable everywhere.
“oh?” yue asks, her eyes twinkling. “does that mean you think i’m cute, suki?”
“hmmm,” suki teases out, a trace of laughter in her voice as yue finally manages to dart forward to steal her drink, finally realizing her success would be increased if she let go of suki’s hand. suki doesn’t even mind that much, wow. “well,” suki settles, after a moment of false consideration. “yeah, i think you’re pretty cute.”
yue winks at her, the same way she did in the bookstore, and takes a sip of suki’s bubble tea. then she makes a completely disgusted expression shoving suki’s drink back at her. “suki! that’s so gross, tui and la, how do you drink that?”
suki can’t help the laugh that spills out of her as yue sticks her tongue out and crosses her eyes, making a fuss that shouldn’t be as sweet as it is. well, suki’s always been a sucker for clowns. suki reaches out and links their hands back together and they both sip at their drink as they seem to stop together at the bus.
they make shy eye contact as a bus comes up to the stop. “so,” yue says. “i’ve got to go, i’m meeting up with a friend. but this was really fun, right?”
suki smiles, “yeah, it was really fun.”
“that’s great! i really liked talking with you!” yue informs her. then, yue leans forward and kisses suki’s cheek before turning around, and her earrings sparkle in the sunlight as she jumps onto the bus right before the bus doors close and it pulls away with the rest of the flow of traffic. suki blinks and watches it go, still feeling the soft touch of yue’s lips on her cheek.
when suki pulls her phone out of her bag to video call sokka he immediately points out the lipstick mark on her cheek and she resolves not to give him any details, no matter how much he pesters her
-
two weeks later, after bemoaning to ty lee about how she was dumb and completley forgot to ask the cute girl she met at the book store for her number, she sees yue again. at sokka’s book club.
the members of the secret book club hadn’t been a surprise for the most part, consisting of sokka (obviously), aang (one of sokka’s only friends who wasn’t a gay girl), azula, mai, ty lee and suki (the gay girls sokka was friends with). sokka’s parents, hakoda, kya and bato, had baked with sokka all last night and prepared a whole table full of snacks that sokka had made her haul over to their apartment. suki thinks it’s a ridiculous amount of food for their handful of friends, and then she and sokka ate a good section of it before their friends even show up.
mai, sokka and azula are arguing over the finer points of the book already even though the meeting has yet to officially start. sokka and azula, to be fair, have actual opinions that they are fiercly defending from their spots on the floor as mai causes problems on purpose on the couch she and ty lee stole as soon as they stepped through the front door.
there was only one person that had yet to arrive, and apparently only aang had met her before. azula had raised an eyebrow at the pronoun and asked sokka if he’d made friends with another gay girl. the answer had been yes, and suki who was looking for another chance at talking to a cute gay girl after flopping earlier in the month and failing at getting yue’s number or social media or anything, was looking forward to meeting the newest cute gay girl sokka was friends with.
sokka had impeccable taste in cute gay girls (besides azula). so really, maybe suki shouldn’t have been so surprised to answer the door when the bell rang to find yue holding a tray of pastries.
yue stands out in the hallway with its broken light, looking as pretty as the moon in the sky. her face breaks into a smile at the sight of suki, and suki’s sure her expression matches. “suki?!” yue asks. “wow, small world huh?”
suki nods back, her cheeks starting to hurt with how big she was beaming. “so,” suki says. “do you think i could make up for last week and get your number?”
laughter comes from behind suki, and suki knows her friends are probably making fun of them right now, but she’s too interested in yue’s answer to pay any attention.
yue rolls her eyes, but she doesn’t stop smiling, “of course suki, now do you want to help me bring these in so i can program it into your phone? no excuses not to call me this time.”
“don’t worry,” suki says as she takes the sweets from yue. “i’ll be sure to blow your phone up more than sokka when he’s trying to prove a point.”
she’s rewarded with another kiss to her cheek (and teasing from her friends at another lipstick stain) and yue’s number in her phone saved as yue🌙💖😘.
yue, through suki’s phone, texts something to herself and suki leans over yue’s shoulder to see what it is.
omg yue you’re so hot please go out with me <3
suki bumps yue’s shoulder as best as she can with her hands full and raises an eyebrow. “so, yue?” suki asks. “will you go out with me?”
yue giggles, her lipgloss sparkles and suki wonders what it tastes like, “of course, suki.”
a few seconds later, suki has her question answered and can confidently report that yue’s lipgloss tastes like mango.
suki passes the tray off to sokka, who was helpfully waiting right behind her with the tried familiar expression of accidentally setting up his exes. then, suki tugs yue into the loveseat, kicking out aang who had been sprawled across it.
book club is much more fun than suki was expecting, though almost all things are improved, suki finds, when she’s hanging out with her friends and eating sweets and practically sitting in the girl she likes lap while yue braids her hair and teases sokka with her. yue winks at her as aang and ty lee stop azula and sokka from getting into a fistfight with mai and sticks another hello kitty sticker onto her cheek. suki leans over and kisses the same spot on yue. fair is fair after all.

Could u pls do a Sokka x childhood f reader pls?? Thank u so much for consideringg🥰🥰🥰🥰
“Do you remember when we used to get in trouble for sitting up here?”
Sokka looks at you. Blue eyes, always so bright, always so alert, forever ready to take on a challenge. They’re softer when he’s around you, a moment when he can let himself relax because he knows you are the one person in the world who won’t hurt him.
The two of you sit side-by-side on the ice berg, gazing out at the lake. The water is grey today, tiny chunks of ice floating around as the weather gets warmer and the ice bergs melt into nothing. The few remaining ones are easily accessible for the southern water tribe, but they’re dangerous nonetheless.
“I can’t really blame our parents for getting worried,” Sokka replies after a moment. “But we’re professionals; we know what we’re doing.”
    “Even at age six?”
“Especially at age six.” Sokka sighs, placing his gloved palms flat against the ice and leaning backwards. From this angle, he can gaze at your side profile without making his admiration obvious, so he stays there, turning his head just slightly. There’s a tiny smile present on your face, that tiny tilt to your head that Sokka has seen so many times in the years you two have been together. He could probably paint you entirely from memory at this point. Years spent pining, years spent laughing with you, years spent by your side because you finally, finally, took the hint and confessed you returned his feelings.
And now you two do this. You just sit together. You just exist together, and that’s how it always kind of has been. Neither of you have known anything else. At this point, your life is his life and vice versa.
“When did that change?” you ask.
   “What?”
You glance back, blushing when you see him already staring at you with that wide, goofy smile on his face. You nudge his knee and turn back to the lake. “When did they finally let us come up here on our own?”
“Don’t be fooled, babe - my grandma still thinks we’re being dirty when we go up here on our own. I have to remind her I’m old enough to join the army now, so she has to let me go up on the ice berg with my girlfriend.”
You giggle. “I love your grandma.”
“And she loves you. She just doesn’t like the idea of grandkids at such a young age.”
You pat his knee. “She doesn’t have to worry about that.”
Sokka rolls his eyes, nudging your side with his foot. You smile down at him, before leaning back so you’re both shoulder-to-shoulder again. You continue gazing out at the lake, your favourite pass-time, because it really is just you two when you’re out on the lake. Katara is back at camp; your parents are nowhere to be seen - Sokka has you all to himself.
He nuzzles his head against your hair, sighing. “Looking out at the lake always makes me sleepy.”
“I know it does,” you reply.
“You left me here that one time. Remember?”
“Only because I wasn’t about to carry you back to land. You’re heavier than you look, Sokka.”
Sokka pouts, playfully nipping at your ear lobe with his teeth. You grunt, shoving him away.
“I apologised for it!” you exclaim.
“That doesn’t change the fact that I nearly got frost bite on my back!”
   “Oh, get over it.”
Sokka sticks his tongue out at you, holding your gaze for only a moment before the two of you burst into laughter. It echoes across the lake. In the distance, a seal jumps at the noise and dives back into the freezing cold water. On land, a few kids look up from their fishing rods to see where the noise is coming from.
You lean into Sokka’s side then, and it’s reflex when he stretches an arm across your shoulders and pulls you closer to him. This is natural now, his arm around you, your warmth against his. It’s just how things are, and Sokka doesn’t really remember the moment it all changed. He just remembers it did, and he’s never been happier for it.
“Are you staying at mine for dinner tonight?” you ask, breath fanning Sokka’s cheek.
    “If you want me to.”
You hum thoughtfully. “Actually, I take back my invite. I think I’ve seen enough of you today.”
   Sokka pinches your sides.
You squeal, swatting his hands away. “I was kidding! Of course I was kidding.”
   “Yeah, yeah, alright.”
You press a kiss to his cheek. “So? Katara should come, too. I’ve still got to help her finish her homework.”
Sokka frowns. “So you want me to come over just so I can sit with your parents whilst you help Katara with homework?”
“Don’t pretend you aren’t best friends with my parents, Sokka. Remember that time I came home from school and you were already sat with them in the living room?”
Sokka shrugs. “Your dad tells some pretty great stories. Much more interesting than yours.”
“Why don’t you go out with my dad then?”
   “I’ve considered it.”
You chuckle, once again swatting his chest in that way that makes his heart flutter beyond anything else.
“I’ll come,” he says. “And I’ll bring Katara.”
“Great,” you reply. “It’s fish for dinner.”
   “Of course it is.”
You grin. Sokka rolls his eyes, leans down and presses a kiss to your lips, just because he can, because he’s your boyfriend and best friend all rolled into one, and that gives him the kissing privileges he tends to use as often as he possibly can.
You hum against his mouth before pulling away. “We were meant to be fishing you know.”
He shrugs, grabbing you around the waist and pulling you down fully, so the two of you are laying side-by-side. The cold sinks through his coat, but eventually it fades away and he is able to roll over and nuzzle his head in your neck. You close your eyes against the feel of him, reaching up to stroke your hands through his hair as it sprawls out on the ice behind him.
    “Fishing, Sokka,” you remind him.
He nuzzles deeper into the hood of your coat.
You giggle, and Sokka knows he has won. Neither of you make a move, instead laying there on the ice, enjoying each other’s presence just as you have always done.

It’s a Nice Day for a Fraud Wedding (Chapter 3)
Rating: Mature Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Jet/Sokka (Avatar) Additional Tags: Marriage of Convenience, Alternate Universe - Modern Setting, Modern Era, Slow burn, Slow build Summary: The one where Jet makes a joke about Sokka marrying for citizenship and Katara takes him too seriously...
Read below the cut or on ao3
Doja Cat was blaring through the speakers as Ty Lee merged across five lanes of traffic to get off at the correct exit. Sokka was gripping the door for dear life and had his eyes closed saying his last prayer to Tui and La.
Over the blare of the music, Sokka heard sirens. Shit.
Ty Lee was still speeding along singing Tia, Tamera . Sokka cracked an eye open and looked at her, “Can you pull over?” Her wide grey eyes looked over in concern, “Oh Sokka, are you gonna throw up again?””
He glared at her and gestured to the rearview mirror, “For the love of Tui and La. The cops want you to pull over!” Ty Lee finally checked her rearview mirror and hurried to pull to the side of the road.
As they waited for the officer to approach, Doja rapped about how her twins were big like Tia, Tamera. Sokka leaned back against the headrest, “For fuck’s sake, turn the music off.”
He could feel his heart thump and his palms sweat as they waited. He could feel himself shaking. He tried to take a deep breath to settle himself. Ty Lee looked over while applying her lip gloss, “Sok’s babe, chill. It’s just the police. I wonder if they’ll be hot.”
His mind raced as he tried to remember where his immigration visa was. Was it in his backpack or his wallet? His back pocket? He gulped and felt his adam’s apple bob.
Ty Lee rolled the window down as the Ba Sing Se police officer leaned into the window, “Ma’am, do you have any idea why I pulled you over?”
Ty Lee looked at him wide eyed, “Spirits, no.” Sokka winced internally, she had made at least 13 driving violations in the last ten minutes. The officer cleared his throat, “Ma’am, you were going 94 in a 67. You cut off a slew of vehicles.”
She batted her fake eyelashes at him, “Gee officer, I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize-”
Sokka couldn’t see the officer’s expression behind his dark aviator sunglasses. The man answered, “License and registration please.”
Ty Lee opened her Louis Vuitton wallet and handed him the documents. He looked at the license and then back at her, “You’re one of the Ping girls?” She nodded, “Yep, my dad is one of the Fire Nation ambassadors.” The agent nodded, “I know him.”
As the officer looked up over his sunglasses, he spotted Sokka, “You- identification.” Sokka dug out his wallet and handed over his ID. The officer barely glanced at it before he asked the question that Sokka had been dreading, “Papers?”
Sokka took a deep breath to stop the shaking in his hands and then he dug through his backpack and pulled out his student visa. The officer took a quick glance down and said, “Sir, I’m going to need you to step out of the vehicle.”
Ty Lee looked up at the officer and smiled, “Officer, I’m sure we can work something else out.” Tui and La, Sokka was going to get arrested for bribery and deported. This was great, just fucking great.
Then the officer switched off his body camera.
Sokka felt himself having a complete panic attack. He was going to throw up. This was it.
Except Ty Lee was giving the officer a friendly wave as she rolled up the window.
Sokka looked at her in shock as she pulled back onto the road, “Um, what just happened?” His friend made an illegal U-turn, “Sokka, I can’t let them take you away.” He questioned, “But what happened?” “I gave him the cash I had and we called it a day.” She shrugged.
Sokka looked up. He wasn’t particularly religious, but this was definitely a time to pray. He ran his fingers down his face in anguish, “I can’t believe you bribed him.” He groaned. She looked at him over her sunglasses, “Sokka, it was either that or your cute little butt would be heading back to the South right now.”
And he sighed, because he knew she was right. He asked, “How much was it? I can pay you back.” She abruptly pulled into a parking spot in front of his campus apartment and patted his cheek, “Don’t worry about it babe. Just promise me, you aren’t going anywhere. That’s payment enough.” She held out her pinkie to him, “Pinkie promise?” He put his finger in hers, “My pinkie promises.”
He trudged to his dorm, replaying the scenario in his mind, over and over again. His stomach was in knots. He still felt nauseous.
A shower always made him feel better.
He tossed off his backpack and stripped out of his clothes. He took his hair down as he waited for the water to heat up. He started blasting music and stepped into the hot spray. As the scorching water pelted his back, he still couldn’t escape how terrible he felt. He was so close to being sent away. What if it was a different day and Ty Lee hadn't been with him? Sokka would never have the balls to bribe someone. His ass would have been deported. He felt like throwing up again.
The family he had were here, in Ba Sing Se. The life he knew was here in Ba Sing Se. There was nothing for him in the South. He took a deep breath, just to feel it go in his lungs and know he was still capable of breathing.
He shut the water off and tried to ground himself.
He looked for five things he could see- the brown chin length hair hanging in his face, the tile of the shower, the silver faucet, the light blue shower curtain Katara had bought him, and the head of the shower.
He touched four things around him- the smooth tile, the harder grout, the cool faucet and the blue bar of soap.
He searched for thee things he could hear- the shower head dripping, the fan of the bathroom and the music he forgot to shut off.
He inhaled and smelled the soap and his minty shampoo.
He rolled his tongue and tasted the boba he had gotten with Ty Lee.
The grounding technique had made him less shaky, but he still felt panicky. He stepped out of the shower and searched for clothes as his mind raced. He only had until the end of his PhD program to stay on his student visa, and what then? He couldn’t stay in college forever, but employers wouldn’t hire someone without citizenship. Sokka realized his time was running out. He was praying that his residency application would get approved any day now, but it felt like it wasn’t coming any time soon.
He took another deep breath as he flopped onto his bed. He reached for his phone and called Katara. As soon as she answered, he demanded, “Take me off speaker.” He heard his sister roll her eyes. She spoke, sounding closer to the phone, “Yes brother?” He felt whiny and dumb for calling his baby sister, but these were trying times. He answered, “Can you come over? Just you.” She questioned, “Shit day?” He agreed, “Shit day.”
She hung up and he wallowed under the covers as he waited for his baby sister to baby him. So what if he was a grown man? Everyone had shit days.
Katara blew into his apartment 23 minutes later, juggling snacks from the 7-11. She kicked off her vans and plopped onto her brother’s bed. He tossed aside his phone and looked at her and told her how shaken up he was just by being pulled over. It was a simple traffic stop, it shouldn’t have induced this level of anxiety in him.
She listened and said, “Is there anything you can do to speed your application up?” He shrugged helplessly, “I’ve tried everything. I don’t have any more money to pay for another lawyer consult. Zuko’s looked at the thing a million times. I literally don’t know what else to do.”
Katara was biting her lip, which meant she had advice, but was tentative about giving it. He flicked a piece of popcorn at her, “What?”
She rubbed her neck, “Sokka, I know you don’t want to hear this, but maybe just think about what Jet said.” Sokka drummed his fingers on the bed, “Katara, he was probably just bullshitting.” Her blue eyes looked up at him, “Well yeah, at first we both were, but then we talked about it and he said he would really do it.”
He looked over at his sister, “I don’t have any money to pay him for it or anything.” His sister dug into the bag of twizzlers, “Jet wouldn’t take it anyway. I know you don’t like him, but he’s just a nice person.” Sokka scoffed, “No one gets married just to be nice.” She pointed a twizzler at him, “Jet will do anything to fuck over the system. Cheating the bullshit citizenship process is right up his alley.”
Sokka laughed, “Do you remember the two of you going to protests and stuff in high school? I thought you guys were gonna turn into anarchists.” She winked at him, “There’s still time for that.” She glanced down at her phone, “Jet’s probably at the bar right now. Wanna go talk to him?”
Sokka focused on the cheese stick he was trying to open, “Uh, I don’t know.” Katara bounced off  the bed, “Come on. We’ll just go talk to him. I promise nothing crazy will happen.”
