RESIDENT EVIL → THE WESKER FAMILY
To the public, little is known of the families behind some of the world’s most renowned bioterrorists, but the question remains: did they play a role in causing their children to walk down the path that they did? Or are these individuals simply ambitious criminals with delusions of grandeur?
Tumblr media
For Diana Wesker (née Afanasyeva), her introduction into the bioweapons black market trade was upon discovering her employers were using her research into limb regeneration with salamanders to further their experiments in creating enhanced soldiers, instead of developing human therapies with which she was recruited for. Although the prospect of using biological weapons in the military did not appeal to her, the concept remained fascinating for her own selfish endeavours. Born on the 27th of October, 1963 in Sydney, Australia to Russian immigrant parents, Diana had harsh expectations placed upon her at a young age, ones that no matter how hard she tried she could never live up to. Her mother, Tatyana, was an unfeeling woman, absent for long stretches of time with little regard to how it affected her daughters, much more concerned with her craft as an accomplished opera singer. Viktor was no better. A strict man whose role as father and ballet master blurred, he pushed his girls to one day follow in his footsteps. Whilst Sofia enjoyed ballet, and went on to become a professional ballet dancer, Diana’s heart was set on going into the field of biology. She wished to make a name for herself, separate from her family – to which she succeeded.
Diana was married to former U.S. Marine, Dave Monroe, for only a year until he was declared dead in 1992 after succumbing to injuries sustained in a horrific car accident. Foul play was ruled out while Diana played the role of the grief-stricken widow, but in reality, she had snapped after years of mistreatment at her husband’s hands, and opted for something she could pass off as an accident to be free of him. For years she believed he was dead – and he was, legally – but that proved to not be the case when he found his way back into her life again in 1999. Unbeknownst to her, she had been lied to by the police and coroner, who were paid off by her employers when they took Dave’s body for themselves and used him as one of their first test subjects in developing supersoldiers. Before he could ever hurt her again, Diana’s second husband, Albert Wesker, tracked the man down, captured him and tortured him, before allowing Diana to get her violent and bloody revenge.
The origins of Albert Wesker’s involvement in bioterrorism, alongside his twin sister, Alex, are much different than that of Diana’s. The two hail from London, Canada, but unfortunately, they hold no memories of their lives there, nor what happened to their biological parents when they were eight years old. Agents of Oswell E. Spencer, an aristocratic billionaire and eugenicist, took the twins from their home and executed their parents as per Spencer’s orders. Albert and Alex were then placed in a home funded by the Spencer Foundation where they were given new names and a privileged upbringing. They had access to the best education possible, free to pursue whichever field they decided, but it was by no accident they both went into virology and bioengineering; at home, their adoptive parents – agents whom they believed to be their real parents – instilled them with the beliefs of Oswell E. Spencer, harbouring disdain for war and pestilence, and believing humans to be an evolutionary dead-end in need of a rebirth. They were only two of the hundreds of children “adopted” as part of what is known as Project W, a plan intended to develop an advanced race of human beings. The most promising candidates were headhunted by Umbrella Pharmaceuticals, the twins amongst them, where they went on to create bioweapons for the company founded by none other than the man who had handpicked them for his plan. The final stage of this was to infect the thirteen Spencer saw fit, however, only two survived; Albert received the intended effects, now possessing superhuman abilities, however, Alex was only offered more time to live due to her terminal degenerative illness.
In the summer of 1995, Diana was working undercover within Umbrella to gather development data on their projects for her company. Here, she had a chance encounter with Albert, an intelligence officer at the time, which permanently altered the course of her life. The two were never seen far from one another’s side, marrying in 1998, and they went on to become notorious in the bioweapons industry. The development of the Uroboros virus was where things took a turn for the worst. Although Diana’s infection was successful and she bore abilities that rivalled her husband’s, the plan itself did not succeed as they had hoped, and almost cost Albert his life at the hands of his former subordinates.
Now, they work within the shadows, with Diana declared missing and Albert believed to be dead. Their legacy, however, lives on with the mark they left on the world. As visionaries in their field, they influenced bioterror attacks carried out by countless individuals and organisations. In turn, they also inspired others to fight against such atrocities. One such person happens to be Albert’s son from a former relationship, Jake Müller, whose existence he was unaware of.

#mine.#oc: diana#pair: ewskers#click for better quality cause it's large & tumblr ate it ♡#hii so happy birthday diana !! queen is 60 today :]#um. there's no template cause i made this from scratch...i couldn't find any i was vibing with so i was like you know what lmaoo#i'm sorry for the essay...it was meant to be just a short rundown of the family but well...that happened. typical leah fashion...#oh and guys. did you know that there's a limit to the amount you can put in one blockquote? that's why the rest is just left like that caus#i didn't like how it looked with a blockquote each paragraph...cause the spaces between were unever. you understand 😔#with the tree i was also going to include weskids adoptive parents but i couldn't figure out how to arrange it all & make it look nice !!#cause i also wanted to have spencer in there as well cause he's a big reason why the weskids are the way they are...was maybe gonna include#sherry as well. like connected to jake (hehe) and then do her parents too but that would've made things so wide & it's already big enough#yes. i hc that albert & alex are biological twins. just for clarification there :] i don't think i added anything else that isn't canon or#implied with canon. cause the weskids were put in homes (or at least whatever ''controlled environments'' means) where they were monitored#by umbrella but were unaware of it. so yeah. i don't think i really changed much there !!#honestly i could've kept rambling cause there's alex's whole situation. there's my lore with jake's mum. there's way more with the ewskers#but it's already so long & i can't be concise so there's that lmaoo oh also diana's grandma. so much stuff#also meant to say the weskids birthday in that ramble. it's january 15 1960 :] they are capricorn sun leo moons but alex was born earlier s#their rising signs are albert is a scorpio rising & alex is a libra rising !!#had to redo the image cause typo on diana's birth year for some reason lmao so if that messed up the formatting i will sob

I'll never be able to take the theory that Vincent is Sephiroth's real father seriously cuz I cannot stress enough how important I think it is to the plot that Vincent wanted to fuck Lucrecia and did not get to.
#once again i jest but now i have to actually talk about it#like. okay we have no proof of any actual timeline for the dirge flashbacks other than. it was at least 30 years ago#so who knows how long they were at the manor. could have been weeks before The Incident. or months. or maybe a full year! who knows#but to me a timeline of like. they fucked and like a week later vincent found The Evidence and lucercia had her little breakdown#AND THEN EXTREMELY QUICKLY SHE AGREED TO THE EXPERIMENT AND IT COULD GO ONE OF TWO WAYS#1. she knew she was pregnant and thats why she agreed to the experiment cuz there was already a usable subject#and therefore she must have fucked hojo like a week after she fucked vincent AND THATS STUPID FAST FOR THESE EVENTS#or 2. she didnt know. agreed to the experiment. fucked hojo. and therefore thought seph was hojo's and NOT vincent's#AND BY THE WAY. i dont even actually believe hojo fucked either!!! cuz theyre both scientists so why wouldnt they think IVF was the best way#okay. well.... hojo is canonically a fucked up little freak. so. he might have taken the opportunity to... get in there.#also when did ivf even start being a thing? cuz that may play a factor into this if nomura even considered that#well either way lets just unfortunately assume hojo got in there#ITS STILL AN ODDLY FAST TIMELINE#also. fuck man doesnt lucrecia have a later line in dirge where she actually says shes in love with hojo? or something along those lines#IMPLYING ITS BEEN AWHILE SINCE SHE HAD THE FALLING OUT WITH VINCENT. YOU WOULDNT FUCK THE GUY AFTER ALL THAT SHIT#AND WHILE CLAIMING TO LOVE/CURRENTLY FALLING IN LOVE WITH HOJO!!!! LIKE CMON MAN!!!! SHE SUCKS BUT SHES NOT THAT KIND OF A MESS#i dont think vincent would fuck her until they sorted out their issues anyway and that CLEARLY didnt happen.#its VITAL that that did not happen!!!!#its just. if vincent and lucrecia fucked. everything would have had to happen EXTREMELY fast within like a 2 week timespan#and im just talking about up to when vincent learns shes partaking in the experiment. it was probably another week or two until vincent died#SO. logically it must have been like#fall in love->learn about the gimoire incident->refuse to speak to vincent->get obsessed with hojo->fall in love(?)#and then thats where i think its ambiguous on did the experiment become an idea before or after seph started to exist?#like chicken or the egg ya know. experiment idea or sephiroth zygote?#that feels fucked up to say. im so fucking sorry to seph to talk about this. yeah sorry i have to debate who fucked your mom bro#god imagine telling him that. like not even as a reveal thing cuz he knows who his father is. just like as a sick joke. your mom joke.#NO OH M Y GOD I HAVE A QUESTION NOW#in accordance to him having a photo of lucrecia in ever crisis. after he reads that jenova is an ancient (incorrect btw)#does he think that picture is still her? what about when he takes jenova's body from the lab????#oh my god 30 tag limit. FUCK. i need like a rant blog for all this vincent talk now. my brain is going a mile a minute

I was watching clips from Little Women 2019 on YouTube (im so normal about that movie) and on the one with Jo Friedrich getting together at the end, people were commenting “oh I’m so glad Jo found the capacity to love another person romantically because she would be a static character if not. They were so sweet together 🥰” and I had to close the tab because HNG,,,,,,
Firstly, it was heavily heavily implied that the ending where Jo gets together with him was simply made up for the sake of the publisher due to prejudices and constraints of that time period (which was reflected in Alcott’s own experiences of trying to get little women published). This was supported by the colour grading of the scene and it’s place in the story: it’s warm-toned and Jo hadn’t been characterised in any way that would suggest she wanted to be in a romantic relationship for the whole story. Her loneliness is not a byproduct of wanting romantic love, but of living as a struggling artist in the oppressive patriarchal standards of her time; there’s also the fact that her family is moving on and growing up all around her as she’s the only one left behind in her family home, which is further emphasised by the fact that she’s the one constantly clinging to the simplicities of the past. She considers accepting Laurie’s proposal not because she loves him in a romantic way or wants romance, but because life is a fucking struggle. And that’s why Friedrich showing up at her doorstep, from the perspective of a viewer, especially because he hadn’t shown up at all since the film’s opening, is jarring as hell. But it’s deliberately paced to be and ignoring this in order to make such a statement as “oh finally the perfect man for Jo” INFURIATES me. Especially when the scene under the rain? The confession scene? Was the cheesiest culmination of every romantic trope ever. This - accentuated by the jarring shift in themes and character - was a brilliant meta-commentary on actual criticism of the book where it felt like Jo married Friedrich out of nowhere.
Which brings me to the next thing - romantic love being seen as the be-all, end all for… everything. (coldest take of all time but unfortunately, not cold enough apparently) It’s not!!!!!!! Absolutely nothing against it (I love my ships as much as the next person) but when a filmmaker pays such attention in her commentary to love and societal perceptions around it, when she explores sisterly love and motherly love and platonic love etc. all so thoroughly. And you still leave thinking Jo was happiest and fulfilled when she gets together with Friedrich. I… I don’t know what to say. I’ve seen people say that the ending is ambiguous (and it is rather) but I’ve only ever seen it this way and I just don’t agree with the interpretation that Jo just gets married happily in the film because if so, holy crap was it paced/set up badly. All evidence just points to the contrary in terms of character, and themes, and just how the film is structured. And it’s genius! It’s one of the reasons why the film is one of my all time favourites. It’s such effective satire on how society (back then and evidently now) views romantic relationships. So it just makes me so annoyed when people ignore the nuance
Ok *breathes* I’ll stop

The Mademoiselle
Referenced medical treatment, attempted seduction [failed], implied past torture, vaguely implied past noncon [not between the parties presented], misogynistic language [use of the word bimbo],fictional politics
[Concurrent to Bared]
Jackson skimmed the forensics reports as they came in. He couldn’t stomach a deeper reading; he knew damn well what happened in that hotel room.
Smith was dead. He tried to find solace in that fact. But that justice felt hollow for Easton - miles away, recovering from the hell he had endured.
Jackson needed every son of a bitch involved with this on the chopping block. But, seeing as attacking the entirety of the US’ CIA seemed unfeasible as a one man army, he settled for Smith’s contact in the UK.
“She’s registered at the hotel under her current lover’s name - he’s in the House of Commons and we’d rather not put his affair on the record, so try not to make a scene.”
Command had been far more forthcoming with information on this lead, a woman by the name of Liza O’Hare. Not that she was currently using that name - she was well known in Interpol circles for skirting the line.
They knew she had far deeper connections to the black market arms trafficking and hitmen for hire than her sugarbaby grifting would let on. But she was content to skim off the top, and would sometimes drop a hint or two for the agents if it got back at someone who had crossed her. Liza O’Hare was as dangerous as she was discerning, and if she smelled a hint of a trap…
God. He hoped she didn’t pick up on his white lies to Command and assume he was lying to her.
The penthouse was gauzy and ornate, as Jackson expected. The private elevator alone had an intricately designed rug and gold trimmed doors. He waited in the foyer - under guard, of course - while a secretary fetched the lady. How many vases was too many? He counted 23 before O’Hare made her appearance.
She was a bit older than he expected, a grace of maturity in the way she held herself. Strawberry blonde hair was pulled back in a tight bun, a professionalism that clashed with her white slip and tulle bathrobe, cuffed with white faux fur. The picture of a grifter on a high ride. Well loved, well supplied, and confident enough to greet a guest barely clothed.
“Agent Jackson. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“I wish we met under better circumstances, Miss. Vinclard.” Her fake identity was important, but her posturing implied she knew full well his knowledge of her true identity.
“Leave us.” She dismissed the secretary, and shooed the guards as she gestured for Jackson to sit in the living area. This high above the smog, gold afternoon sunlight kept the room well lit as it bounced off the crystal chandelier above.
“I appreciate you agreeing to meet - ”
“Because you MI6 agents would have taken no for an answer? Cut to the chase. You need something I have. What is it?” A soft south Irish accent clipped into her words, faux French dropped for this exchange. Mask off for business.
“A man met with you a few nights ago. Simon Smith. American.” Jackson put a photograph of the agent on the glass table, O’Hara only glancing at it for a moment before turning her harsh green eyes to him. Expectant. “He was killed two days ago.”
“And you think I know something?” She scoffed, leaning back against the plush cushions of the couch with her arms crossed over her chest. “I don’t keep tabs on every man I meet unlike you paranoid rats.”
“What did you two meet for? Besides some very expensive wine and fish dinners.” Jackson nodded to Smith’s picture on the table. “Room service receipt was in his pocket.”
“Hm. He was more of a lightweight than I expected.” O’Hare hummed to herself. Buying time to pick her words. “Well, I’m sure you know Smith was in a bit of trouble back home in the States.”
“Yes.”
“He was looking for…employment. On my side of the tracks, so to speak.” The string of pearls around her throat glimmered as the sun shifted lower in the sky.
“Spy for hire?”
“Heavens no, that would be suicide. CIA aren’t particularly well liked in our circles, and ex-CIA is just begging for a messy end.” Her posture stiffened slightly, a lie considered and dismissed. “He wanted proper black market work. An in with some respected hitmen and the like.”
“Ex-CIA does well as a hitman but not a spy?” Her eyes narrowed slightly at him. She wasn’t being particularly careful - she was leading him exactly where she wanted him. Like Jackson didn’t know better already.
“No. Not for him. He had a…close friend who would operate in his stead. Smith vouched for his skills.” She sighed, shrugging as she looked out the window over the city. “Alas I don’t have those kinds of contacts and - ”
“You do.” Jackson interrupted, keeping his expression carefully blank. She bit her lower lip, almost pouting.
“Fine. I do. I didn’t give any to him, so if you’re looking for a killer among my associates you won’t find one.” She breathed a half chuckle. “Not his killer, at the least.”
“Why not? What about Smith’s associate made him…unemployable?” Her eyes seemed to trace over Jackson like an artist outlining a sketch but pressing the pencil too hard. She was getting skittish. He needed to ease off the pressure, let her feel in control.
“Ah, just didn’t like the way Smith talked about him. Sometimes you just know when you’ll be betting on a losing dog.“ O’Hare shot him a smirk, shimmying closer on the couch and turning her chest toward him. “Call it a woman’s intuition.”
Jackson, homosexual, didn’t want to appear rude, so he raised a brow at her ample cleavage and nodded.
“Of course. Did you direct him or did he suggest any alternative…employers he would be seeking out?”
O’Hare subtly huffed as her advances were apparently found wanting.
“No. Why do you ask, agent?”
“That’s - ”
“Classified? But that’s not fair - I’ve answered all of your questions.” Jackson was resisting the urge to laugh uncomfortably as she scooted closer, one hand on his leg while she purred in his ear. “Why are you so interested in this lost dog of his?”
Dog. Now that settled any present anxiety and discomfort like lead had gilded his bones. He could practically feel the open wounds of those letters left in the Wolf’s shivering flesh. Jackson felt the tension leave his body, burning anger masked as calculating coolness.
“We believe his associate is the one that killed him, and that he’s still in the country. Employment in the black market would be an easy out and easy money for him.”
“Is that all?” O’Hare reared back, tone annoyed. “You’ve been wasting my time chasing a runaway murderer?”
“Well, if you knew any other potential employers he might seek out - ”
“Now agent, I may look like a bimbo, but I’m not going to rat out my associates. I have a reputation to uphold.” Thankfully, she finally sat back - satisfied or at the very least understanding that her femme fatale routine wasn’t having the intended effect. “I can’t just send you their way and say ‘he’s looking for some new guy’ - that would be bad business.”
“Of course. I understand, ma’am. I apologize for wasting both our evenings.” Jackson stood and for a moment of panic he was worried she might drag him back down to the couch. But it appeared O’Hare only pitched forward to sprawl out on the couch, comfortable in her decadence.
“A pity, and here I thought I might have a more exciting night.” Something in her eyes told Jackson she understood the agent in front of her better than he wanted her to know him. “Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with, agent.”
“If you could keep an ear out for this man, it would be appreciated if you reached out should anything come through the grapevine. Keeping your contacts safe, of course.”
“Hm, fine. Tell me - anything I should know about this new murderer on the streets?”
“They call him the Wolf.” Jackson thought he saw her smile twitch, eyes cloud with thought - but he didn’t have time to question it as the guards from earlier returned to escort him to the elevator.
“It’s been a pleasure, Agent Jackson.” Her tone had muted, ever so slightly as she bid him goodnight. He gave her a nod, biting the inside of his cheek. Command was listening. If she knew something about the Wolf, he couldn’t ask her - not here, not now.
“Have a good evening, ma’am.” With a tip of his hat, Jackson walked back to the elevator. A lead for a rainy day - in London, that meant it was only a matter of time. It wasn’t like the Wolf was going anywhere for the time being.

will wasn't crying for himself in ko no mono, he was crying for hannibal.
#raj shitposting#they both brush past it but there is an instance in the conversation where will asks hannibal why he killed her...#and hannibal answers as if he was avoiding talking about mischa. which implies that he thought will was talking about her in the first plac#now here's the thing.. this is what makes will emotional not the child he is about to have. it's almost as if he doesn't care.#when he says he'd be a good father it's almost implied that he wouldn't be. and that is true. because he's a good killer.#good killers are bad fathers because they kill their child's childhood. their innoncence. their childishness.#they are clean and merciless with it. they don't take long. and they don't leave a trace. a good killer would never let the child even know#same way gjh did. abigail never realised that he took it all away until will killed him. she only lived with a growing sense of fear inside#hannibal wasn't a good father either he might have not birthed her but he did raise mischa. and he couldn't protect her. he was a child too#this thing is repeated over and over. will wasn't a good father to abigail because he couldn't protect her. at least not for long.#he wasn't a good father to walter either. he couldn't protect his own child for god's sake! will's decidedly a terrible father.#and it's all because of something so primal and deep seated within him that it comes out to play whenever he's trying to be better.#will said he felt as if he was abigail's father because he killed her father. not because he genuinely felt that belongingness.#hannibal's never wanted him to have anything that's not him in his life because he knows he'll never belong to anyone else.#hannibal severes his connections with other people not because he wants to hurt will but because he wants to save him for himself.#he's the same sort of father gjh was. the exact same variety of possessiveness that he strives to hide in the veil of a well wisher.#and will cried for him because he understood that hannibal wanted to be a good father far more desperately than himself because of mischa.#but he was a good killer. that was his nature and he couldn't escape it.#will's eyes basically said oh you poor man. you should've never hoped. you're not what you want to be. you're so much better.#he killed abigail because he's just a killer. that's what he does. he repents it but he does it out of his desperation for will's love.#right... now mizumono hurts even more than it's supposed to.#hannigram#hannibal#abigail hobbs

hmm let's go with... Toriel? for the analysis thingy? :P
(also very tempted to ask about Berdly- and also asgore but-)
ask game
I’ll do Toriel first !
My overall opinion on the character:
Someone pleeeeease get this woman some therapy please stars I am begging you !
Okay but in all seriousness she goes through a whole heckin’ lot (and no one talks about it ???) like, she losses her kids, her husband starts a war she knows they can’t win without so much as consulting her (not to mention the possibility that the both of them could have lived through the previous war), she decides to flee to the ruins where she is almost completely isolated for who-knows-how-long, she develops a binge-drinking problem, she ends up losing six more children!!! And she does all that she possibly can (in her mind) to avoid losing a seventh. She’s even willing to sacrifice her life so Frisk can have a way to go home. I can only imagine how betrayed, how guilty, how miserable, and how hopeless she must have felt going through all that. She tries so so hard and still fails. Still makes mistakes. Still grieves the loss of eight children that she could have protected if only she was a little more watchful, or strict, or whatever. And I think that’s why she acts the way she does with Frisk. I think she’s a very complicated and tragic character (which I appreciate greatly) and I really hope that she gets a chance to heal from all the extremely traumatic things she’s gone through. And I trust that she will.
One virtue they have:
She’s just. Really freaking strong! Like in general. She’s a really determined and resilient person despite having gone through so much. It feels a bit… odd? to praise her for something that she had to be in order to survive/cope (I know I feel that way about a lot of my own attributes) but it’s something about her that I admire a lot.
One flaw they have:
She can be really strong-willed. For better or for worse. I think it was a major detriment to her during her time in the ruins, and I think it’s most evident when we try to leave the ruins. If she’d been more flexible or impartial, things might’ve gone down differently, but that’s not what happened. I don’t know how much of her rigid thinking can be attributed to personal flaw or maladaptive coping mechanisms, but either way, it’s something that she’s gonna have to work through. I dunno what else to say. This isn’t something that I’ve thought about a lot tbh.
Favorite moment from their arc:
I think in those moments between when we leave her in the ruins and when we see her again in the true pacifist route is where she truly shines the most. I could talk about this all day (if given the energy) but I think this post sums it up better than I could.
Least favorite moment from their arc:
The scene where she confronts Asgore in the true pacifist route -_-
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t exactly dislike that scene. For what it’s worth, it is funny. But that’s the problem. I think it would have been so much better if it had been a more serious and emotional scene and it could have really shown just how tragic their estrangement was. How they once loved each other more than life, and now they can hardly bear to look at each other. I also think there would have been less mischaracterization of the two in fan works with Asgore being overly clingy and Toriel being overly mean-spirited if things had been done differently. But oh well. It’s not like you can change canon anyway. That’s what fanfic is for after all ;}
One relationship they have with another character:
Her friendship with Sans makes me melt TvT
They just click so well with each other. And I think, in a way, they’re kind of what the other needs. A companion they can confide in and share a good laugh with and a reason to keep going/get better. They’re so. Great. They’re great. Their interactions are so wonderful to hear about. I think they should start a prank war. They would absolutely start a prank war.
One relationship I’d like to see explored with this character
I’d like to see more of her and Flowey! He obviously cares about her at least somewhat. Maybe she’ll eventually find out who he used to be, or maybe she never will. Either way, things will never be the same between them, but I’d really like it if they started to form a new sort of mother-son relationship. Mostly I wanna see all the twists and turns and things that their dynamic takes.
What I would have liked to see happen with them in the media
Honestly, I just wanna see her. I wanna see her being happy and being herself. I think she deserves that.
I’m gonna put the other two under the cut :]
Next up, Berdly !
My overall opinion on the character:
When I first got into deltarune, I unfortunately jumped on the bandwagon trend of hating him for no reason ☠️
But that changed soon after chapter 2 came out. I think he’s a really fun, delightfully obnoxious, and surprisingly relatable character. What more can I say? He’s like a little brother to me :>
One virtue they have:
He really cares deep down. We see it in the neutral route where he overrides Queen’s mind-control and fries his wing to save his friends. We see it in the weird route when he drops the act and puts himself on the line the moment he notices that Noelle is truly in grave danger. If we squint, we can see it in every route when he talks about and interacts with Noelle. Sure he’s extremely annoying about it a lot of the time (most of the time actually) but he really does care about her a lot. He cares.
One flaw they have:
He’s really self-centered. I don’t necessarily mean in the self-important way. I mean in the has-a-hard-time-taking-other-peoples-perspectives-into-account kind of way. He frequently talks over Noelle. His rivalry with Kris seems to be pretty one-sided. He’s at least partially aware that Queen does not want him around and still tries to kiss up to her anyway. Instead of asking people what they think, he assumes based on his own narrow frame of reference, which causes him to have a lot of very awkward and unpleasant interactions. It seems to put a lot of strain on his friendship with Noelle as well. To me he seems like what a younger Papyrus who never got proper support might have been like :( Let’s hope he’ll learn some gosh dang communication skills! But for now, I suppose we can appreciate the character development he’s gotten so far.
Favorite moment from their arc:
I think the bluebird of misfortune sequence was really. Yeah. I didn’t know what to make of it at first, but now when I look back on it, it’s such a sincere moment of vulnerability and accountability. Course, he still has a lot to learn and things to work on, but it’s a start. I’m really proud of him for opening up like that. That takes guts.
Least favorite moment from their arc:
“If I can’t base my entire identity around being smart anymore, I guess now I’ll base my entire identity around being stupid!”
Buddy. My dude. My guy. You missed the whole friggin point !!!
Well, I guess I can’t expect him to do a whole one-eighty just like that. But still. Urrg! I think it’s another one of those moments where I feel like it might have been a lot better if it was taken more seriously instead of being unnecessarily played for laughs, but it’s fine. It’s fine and it’s funny! Aaah!
One relationship they have with another character:
His friendship with Noelle is so… ;-;
They study together. They play video games together. They feel like they can be the most themselves around each other. They’re terrified of letting each other down. They’re attached at the hip. They drive each other insane. They’re inseparable. They care about each other so much and they’re always there for each other no matter what. They’re besties.
One relationship I’d like to see explored with this character:
I’d say him and Kris, but that’s too easy. I’d like to talk about him and Susie! I think they have a lot in common. They would absolutely be the kind of friends who are constantly (playfully) butting heads and roasting each other. They know it’s all in good fun, but maybe once in a while, one of them might go a bit too far and the other would lash out and they’d both feel really crappy about it, but they’ll make amends. They always do, and their friendship grows stronger for it. They also would do a bunch of ridiculous daredevil stuff together. Sometimes Kris joins if they feel like it. It’s hard to say whether Noelle or Toriel has gotten more gray hairs from these two heeheehee
What I would have liked to see happen with them in the media:
I wanna see him let loose! I wanna see him just being a kid and not feeling like he needs to put up a front all the time. I want him to be able to just relax and have a good time. I want him to take a freaking nap.
And last but not least, Asgore !
My overall opinion on the character:
I think Asgore’s story is a heart-wrenching one that is (besides the one scene) wonderfully written, and one that is sadly under-appreciated. My feelings about Asgore himself are a wee bit complicated, which makes sense as he is a complicated individual. To put it briefly, he makes me feel a lot of feelings, and I mean A Lot. He’s a guy with a big heart who went through tragedy after tragedy and a kind ruler who cares so so so much and that’s exactly what led him to do awful things that I can’t ignore even if I wanted to. He loves flowers. And gardening. And tea, and puns, and floral-patterned shirts. He’s gentle and patient and soft-spoken. He’s such a goddamn pushover. He’s worryingly prone to denial. He’s so painfully self-aware to the point of self loathing. He’s a misguided and incredibly traumatized old man who wants only the best for those he cares about and thinks only the worst of himself. He did every single bad thing that he did, and he is not a ‘bad person’. I care about him a whole dang lot. I guess cause a lot of what he goes through hits surprisingly close to home. Not everything of course, but some things. Particularly feelings of profound hopelessness and self-hatred. In my mind, if there’s hope for him, and there is, then there’s gotta be hope for me too, right? And that means a lot to me.
One virtue they have:
His tender-heartedness. He regularly visits his people. Teaching kids how to take care of flowers, dressing up as Santa for Gyftmas, giving his friends cups that look like them, things like that. He gets nicknames like ‘King Fluffyboy’ and ‘Big Fuzzy Pushover’ without any kind of animosity behind them. In a no mercy run, when faced with an entity who will most certainly end his life, he offers them tea. And in a neutral run, when spared by the person who brought him to his knees, he offers them a place in his home. Beneath all the terrible decisions he has made and the tragedies he has endured, he really is a big softie with a big heart, and that’s what I appreciate most about him. Complexities.
One flaw they have:
While Toriel is strong-willed to a fault, I think that Asgore’s fatal flaw is his passiveness which stems from his indecisiveness. When he finds himself in a difficult situation, he’s paralyzed by his doubt and apprehension. And he just. lets things happen. Even when the world is ending, he remains in standstill. To be fair, the situation he’s put himself in is a very difficult one, to put it mildly. He’s working with what he has. I highly doubt I would have done better in his place. Sure, he might have handled things better in theory, but, well… that’s not what happened. His actions as well as his inaction had and will have grievous, lasting ramifications. And he knows that.
Favorite moment from their arc:
The moment where he destroys the mercy button. It’s such a phenomenal moment. It’s the moment where you realize that it really is kill or be killed this time. One of us has to die. And he does everything that he can (in his mind) to make sure that Frisk is not the one who dies, starting with showing them that giving him mercy is not an option. It gives me chills every time.
Least favorite moment from their arc:
Well, I already covered the scene where Toriel confronts him in the true pacifist route. I’d feel bad to leave this section basically blank, but the only other scene that I can think of that I could put here is not necessarily bad story-wise, but it is my least favorite because of how upsetting it was for me to witness. I’m still not sure if I’m ready to talk about it directly. If you’ve seen/played a route where neither you nor Flowey kills Asgore, then you already know what I’m talking about.
One relationship they have with another character:
Him and Undyne! I think their sort of father-daughter relationship is criminally underrated! He practically adopted her right after she had just tried to murder him! And then they bonded through combat training and tea making! And the way she looks up to him almost as a father-figure! It just! Ngaaaahhh! It warms my very soul TvT
One relationship I’d like to see explored with this character:
Him and Chara! The two were clearly very close. And then after everything that went down… well. they’re gonna have a lot to unpack. I think it’d be really interesting to see them together post true pacifist, each thinking that the other hates them. should hate them. But in reality, they just hate themselves. And they both blame themselves for everything that happened. I wonder if they’d slowly, tentatively talk it out over time, or if they’d avoid the inevitable and bottle it all up until they can’t anymore and have a very emotionally charged discussion that comes to a mostly healthy conclusion that isn’t perfect, but it’s a start. I dunno. I would also just like to see them gardening together
What I would have liked to see happen with them in the media:
I want to see him recover. I want to see him learning to forgive himself and let go of his self-hatred. I want to see him learning to love life again and I want to see him genuinely happy and content. Mostly I want to see him with an emotional support cat. He will have an emotional support cat.

I'm not sure what specifically it is but I like grey he seems lovely but I cannot STAND jack. I think just the constant writing making him this tragic hero in every scenario just really gets on my nerves and the way grey plays jack doesn't really help. I feel a bit bad as he seems like a really nice guy and I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about meeting him but the guy really needs some help improving on the acting side of things.
I have my issues with Grey and it bothers me that people who met him just turn a blind eye to all the harmful stuff he's implied with his support and wording when discussing the donor storyline so I'm not going to be one of those that just excuses it like most of this fandom and especially the ones who met him just because he's 'so nice and handsome'. As for Jack, I don't like him at all either. He's a boring straight white man who they continuously have playing the victim and hero who does stupid stuff constantly. He's never been appealing to me and especially in the recent seasons.

Sigh. Nikola why must you be one of the more interesting oni characters. I don't wanna think abt you with your stupid spiky blond hair and your unethical science that mostly just serves to make Jackie more shitty by proxy. But I do. Because you're kind of orbo blorbo. Fuck you Nikola I hope you explode again
#rat rambles#oni posting#hes just extremely fascinating in the scientist crowd because he has a weirdly large presence in the like. actual meat of the lore.#like he has an actual arc that relates to the quote unquote plot of oni#he made the field around earth he made the neural vaculators (presumably) he contributed to the teleporters and was also involved with#some of the other projects in the bioengineering department and is one of the two scientists that we know for sure knew abt and worked with#duplicants and all of that and almost every instant of nikola being relevant hes only seen second hand#the One thing that we have that is Maybe directly from him is an email that hes the most likely canidate for#and I mean it Im pretty sure outside of that hes only ever either mentioned second hand or doesnt talk in the case of that one ellie email#even the one time we see proper dialogue from him it isnt even a recording its a second hand retelling from ruby#its soooo fascinating I dont even know if this was on purpose but I love it regardless#now tbf theres other characters who are also mostly if not only mentioned second hand but none that have as much of a lore presence as him#nails was close but then 'a seed is planted' dropped and they became a part of the troubling second hand nikola info club#watch them finally add ashkan dialogue and its just him talking abt nikola being involved in the puppy ai incident too or smth#the thing is that isnt even that out there nikola Did work on the teleporters and worked on somw gravitas time travel shit too so who knows#Im trying to think of theres anyone else whos mentioned in the logs but doesnt actually talk and I know there's steve and ada but hmmm#this isnt counting artifact or news artical specific mentions tbc we're talking within character dialogue#sorry meep mae and pei#WAIT cant believe I forgot abt devon rip bestie my sincerest apologies#I think thats it tho everyone else whos mentioned in dialogue has dialogue Im pretty sure#well direct dialogue I mean#oh tbc ashkan is also in that club#hes probably in second place on the weirdness of his lack of dialogue due to his striking presence in several log list#now tbf hes mentioned like 3 times I think? not counting artifacts ofc. so he's not talked abt That frequently#but one of those is in a paradox and the others are in story traits so its still interesting#I had already loved ashkan before doing my full lore dive so finding out this mysterious dr.ali was my boy ashkan was a delight#now ofc technically ashkan could have secret dialogue that we just dont know is him since we dont know his work id but still#we dont know nikolas either but nikola is likely in engineering and ashkan is likely in robotics so theyre both not likely to be them#they Could be as they do likely work with the bioengineering department but nikola is fully crossed out as the fossil guy at least#ashkan Could be the fossil guy but its not likely imo as theyre also the guy in the husbandry log implying theyre fully a biologist
