Fluffly Poly Oikawa and Iwazumi Headcanons

Movie nights

 Movie nights would be one of the most common dates between the three of you, the two of them are the type to enjoy privacy when trying to spend time with their significant others, and they’ll both take any excuse to cuddle you and each other. 

 On movie nights, prepare to have to settle arguments between the two of them. They’re not serious arguments, but they can never agree on silly things, like what movies to watch, which type of popcorn to buy, what kind of snacks to get, even what blanket to grab, Iwazumi likes heavy blankets, Oikawa, on the other hand, likes fluffy soft blankets, and they always argue about which to use. 

 Typically they’ll have you sit between them, Oikawa likes to cling onto you, and Iwazumi prefers to keep an arm around your shoulder (usually, his hand ends up in Oikawa's hair). Oikawa tends to cling tighter when watching scary movies or during moments of suspense, and Iwazumi gets just a bit more affectionate during romance movies, really any romantic/cute moments get him. 

 Sometimes Iwazumi falls asleep during movie nights, he’s just so comfortable, he feels so safe with the two of you. Oikawa will stay up for as long as you want, so long as you don’t mind a half-awake clingy boy snuggling up to you, or an over-excited boy whisper-shouting about how totally messed up the plot twist in the movie is. 

 I would recommend staying away from sad movies, Oikawa isn’t embarrassed, he won’t hold back any tears, and poor Iwa will start fretting over the two of you and your emotional states. You could be completely unbothered by the movie, and he’s still going to kiss your cheek and cuddle closer to the two of you just to make sure you two know he’s there.  

Sleepovers

 Typically the boys like having sleepovers at Iwazumi, not for any real reason, well that’s not true, Iwazumi likes seeing you in his clothes, and Oikawa likes the way cuddling with you feels on Iwazumi’s bed (Oikawa swears Iwa’s bed is more comfortable than his own).

 Both of them don’t care if there’s noise while they’re going to bed, so they leave it up to you. Oikawa likes to listen to music while he sleeps, but Iwazumi prefers nothing to be on except his fan. 

 Iwazumi likes to sleep with only a sheet in the warmer months and with a weighted blanket in the colder months. Oikawa, on the other hand, likes a fluffy comforter in the warmer months, and when it's colder he adds a fluffy blanket on top of his comforter. When you sleep together though, they tend to agree on sharing a comforter, and Oikawa likes to use that he’s cold as an excuse to cuddle closer to whoever is nearer. 

 Waking up is a bit of a mess when you have somewhere to be. Iwazumi is the first to wake up, he probably fixes up something for breakfast, like some toast, he’d probably also cut up some simple fruit, and he definitely makes himself a protein shake or a breakfast smoothie of sorts. He’ll start waking Oikawa up first, but only because he whines and goes back to sleep immediately, then he tries to wake you up. He’s a lot softer with you since he’s most likely known Oikawa a lot longer, but once you’re all up and running. There’s definitely a struggle for the bathroom, but after Iwazumi invested in a mirror for his bedroom, things started running more smoothly. 

 On days when the three of you can stay in bed all morning, Oikawa is the most likely to leave the bed first. Iwazumi is still the first to wake, but typically after using the bathroom and getting some water, he returns to read in bed until you and Oikawa wake up. Typically on these easy-going mornings, you and Iwazumi have to bribe Oikawa to stay in bed with cuddles and kisses, he pretends to be offended by the bribery, but he thinks it a more than fair trade.

Selfcare Nights

 Selfcare nights are typically prompted by Oikawa (and possibly you). Just a night for some face masks, calm music, a lighthearted show playing softly in the background, and some good snacks. 

 Selfcare nights are usually combined with sleepovers, but not always, and on occasion, the lighthearted show is replaced with some romantic comedy Oikawa swore the three of you had to watch. 

 Oikawa has a collection of facial creams and masks, he’d happily supply the cosmetics, and if you and Iwazumi show a preference and liking for any specific product, he’d make sure to keep some extra on hand. 

 Oikawa will use just about any face mask, so long as it's safe and smells nice, but he tends to lean towards face masks that aim to hydrate his skin. Iwazumi probably feels uncomfortable wearing any face mask that isn’t a sheet mask or a light cream mask, it’s very foreign to him, but he’s trying his best to learn what helps with his skincare.

 Iwazumi refuses to put the mask on himself (he feels weird putting it on really) he’ll patiently wait and sit until either you or Oikawa comes and puts it on him. He likes the way Oikawa smooths the mask onto his face when he puts it on, and he enjoys the little kiss you give him as a reward for sitting still when you put it on him.

Valentine’s Day was for girls.

That’s what every other boy said, Valentine’s Day was for girls, and White Day was for boys. But when it’s the only time you feel you can work up the nerve, what’s it matter what day it really is?

Except the nerve never came to you.

You had been ready, gift prepared and stowed carefully in your bag, but you couldn’t manage to hang onto the courage to actually give it to him.

Your friends thought it was hilarious, but how could you do it? You weren’t like him. Even when he was aggressive, he was loved. He was popular and a star player- the Ace of the school team. You were just a fast runner. The lead runner on the track team, to be specific. That wasn’t as impressive to you. You didn’t have to work with anyone unless you were running a relay. When you ran, you were on your own.

So your gift stayed in your bag, undelivered, as you walked back in to school the day after Valentine’s Day. Wondering if maybe today the courage would appear, but you doubted it, not after all the girls you’d seen approach him yesterday.

Unfortunately for you, you had a childhood friend that never forgot anything if he thought you could be tortured with it.

“Wait a sec- dammit, Y/N, slow down!” He knew you wouldn’t. The one thing you had on Makki was speed, if you wanted out of conversation, he would never catch you to continue it.

“Hey, Y/N!” The deep voice as an arm hooked around your shoulders halted your escape.

“Let go, Mattsun.”

“Now why would I do that?” He clutched his chest with his free hand, “I thought you loved us. All those years of playing together now mean nothing?”

Makki huffed as he caught up, “Damn, I forget how fast your little legs take you.”

“I’m barely shorter than you-“

“Still makes you plenty shorter than me, just standing like this hurts my back.” Mattsun interjected but you ignored him.

“And if you both really must know- it’s because I didn’t give it to him!”

“Why the hell not?” Mattsun asked quickly, squeezing his arm until he practically had you in a headlock, “We helped you with that thing for a week!”

“Because why bother??” You called out as you reared back your fist and punched him in the stomach lightly- but hard enough for him to jerk and let go, “I’m sure he accepted one of the super pretty girls that came up to him yesterday.”

“Who accepted a pretty girl, Y/N-Chan?”

You froze stiffly at Oikawa’s voice, knowing that if he was there, Iwaizumi wasn’t far behind. “Don’t worry about it, Oikawa. Gotta get to class, bye!” Mattsun reached out to catch you, but you were already gone.

“Damn, runners.” He muttered, turning to Makki who sent him a thumbs up.

“Oh, no, where the hell is it??” You dig through your bag again as you sat in your first class and waited for the teacher, but the gift you had so carefully placed inside was missing. It had been when you got to school, you’d checked, and the Mattsun had caught you and- “Makki, I’m going to fucking kill you.”

“Why are you killing Makki?”

Your head snapped up to see Iwa standing in front of you, and clipped onto his bag was the present you had made for him. Little keychains- one of his jersey and one of yours. But if he had them- then the letter- you wanted to throw up. Your jaw fell open, warmth spreading to your cheeks as you floundered for a response, “A lot of reasons.” Finally fluttered out shakily.

Iwa nodded, taking the seat next to you like he did every day, and fiddled with his bag for a second, “Here, I think you’re supposed to have this one.” His large hand reached over, depositing the keychain of his jersey onto your desk, and your eyes darted up to catch the flushed expression on his face as he stared at his own desk.

Your voice was small when you answered, “Thank you.” You took it carefully, staring at it unsure of what this meant, but Iwa cleared his throat.

“I’m not… good with this stuff. Shittykawa says I’m too abrasive or whatever. But maybe after our practices today, we could go to a café or something? Talk?”

Your head jerkily before you thought about it, “Yes. We should… do that.”

“Good.”

“Here. I meant to give this to you yesterday. I chickened out.” Brow furrowed, you took the small box he held out to you, noticing he was once again avoiding looking at you, and opened it carefully.

Inside was a pair of simple chain looking bracelets, with a simple note.

“I know I’m late, but the question still needs an answer.”

First, you hooked one of the bracelets with your finger, setting it carefully in front of him as you echoed his words, “I think you’re supposed to have this one.”

Then you took the note, grabbing a pen from your bag and carefully writing back.

Iwa took it as soon as you set it down, a smile breaking over his face as he finally glanced at you, red cheeks and all.

‘Will you be my Valentine?’

Summary: A countdown to your happy ever after. Something that is a dream to most people is a nightmare to those who don’t believe in an happy end. But how can you avoid a part of your life that was always supposed to be there? Exactly, you just try to keep the clock ticking.

Unknown Number: “Hey, here is your soulmate”

Your heart almost stopped when you read the message, sitting in your own room a few streets away from Oikawa´s house.

Your timer didn’t seem to be bothered.

Seemingly the universe didn’t foresee the advancement of technology.

For a moment you only stared at the offending object, not moving a muscle. Your mind was already in overdrive, trying to find a way to resolve the situation and the first thing that came to your mind was to completely ignore him but then you thought about the consequence.

You could already see him barging into your school, seeking you out and demanding to know why the hell you acted as you did. Not to forgot that within your imagination you saw Mina and Ray cheering him on from the sidelines while the other people around you were completely shocked that someone would actively avoid their soulmate.

You shock your head and decided that you couldn’t let that happen. You needed to face this head on and somehow get him to stay away from you.

Playing dumb could work.

You: and who is my supposed soulmate?

The male answered immediately, showing that he waited for your reply. Unbeknownst to you, even quite anxiously.

Oikawa: Come on, Soulmate-chan! Don´t be like this, I think you had your fun by running off all the time ;)

You: as far as I remember you were the one running off this time

Oikawa: So, you know who I am? It breaks my heart that you pretended not to know :<

You snorted.

You: Fine, I know who you are but that doesn’t mean that you are my soulmate. It´s only possible to know for sure after meeting your soulmate

Oikawa: Wanna test it then?

You: No.

Oikawa: so cold :<<<

Oikawa: why don´t you want to meet me? :(

That was the question you wanted to avoid all along. While you felt too insecure to answer, you decided to give him a vague reply in order to not leave him hanging.

You: I have my reasons. Just know that it isn´t because I don’t want to meet my soulmate

Oikawa: ???

You: It´s complicated

You: can we please leave it at that for now?

Oikawa: So even though we know each other, you still don’t want to meet? :0

His way to text irritated you to say the least. You couldn’t tell if he was serious, angry, or just joking around. You didn’t even know if he was truly hurt by your actions or if he wasn’t bothered at all.

Oikawa stared at his phone in frustration as you took your time to answer his latest questions. He tried hard not show his true emotions. Instead, he was his silly self and hoped that this and a few added emojis covered up what was truly inside him: a storm of emotions.

By now he wasn’t even sure if this was just out of habit or if it was a conscious decision to make you open up to him. He knew you could block him anytime but he wouldn’t want that to happen because he knew what he would have to have to do then.

He wasn´t known for his inteligence but he was perceptive enough to know that he had to go careful about this in hopes of making you comfortable enough to share whatever his holding you back with him.

And he would rather want to avoid having to force his way into your life but he would do that if there wasn’t any other option anymore.

Finally, he heard the noise that notified him that he had another massage from you.

Soulmate-chan: Not yet.

Not yet? What exactly did that even mean?

Oikawa: and how long is this “not yet” going to last? :(

Soulmate-chan: I honestly don´t know.

Soulmate-chan: I don’t really want to ask you to wait for me, but I want to at least ask you to tolerate my decision.

He huffed. Of course, he would wait. He didn’t even meet you in person, but you still managed to annoy him to no end but he knew that you were meant to be with him, so how could he not wait? And he would make sure that you understood that he wanted to be with you. Of course he would be subtle about it.

Oikawa: I don’t want to force you, but I really really want to be with you!

Oikawa: You are playing with my feelings here!

Oikawa: Since you seem to like games, how about I start playing, too? :D

Soulmate-chan: what do you mean?

Oikawa: A simple game of cat and mouse. I won´t ambush you at school or something but the universe still has its plans and whenever it gives me the chance to actually meet you, I will take it.

Oikawa: It´s easy, you keep running away and I try to catch you. Nothing much is changing from how it has been before but now I am an active player

Soulmate-chan: are you for real?

Oikawa: of course, I am. I want to meet you and you want to postpone that. Whoever wins the game gets what they want.

Soulmate-chan: fine, but I am on a winning streak ´, so don’t be too disappointed if you don’t succeed any time soon, okay? :)

God, even one stupid emoji sent by you made him excited at this point.

Baby steps, he had to remind himself.

Oikawa: don´t worry, I am ambitious. I will catch you.

Soulmate-chan: good luck

You sighed as you let yourself fall on your back on your bed. Motionlessly, you stared at your ceiling. A mix of anxiety and excitement started to build within your stomach. 

Deciding that it would be the best to try and sleep – even though you were sure you wouldn’t be able to – you reached out for the lamp on your nightstand, turning it off.

You were about to put your phone on flight mode when you heard the familiar sound of a notification.

You hesitated for a moment before texting back.

Oikawa: Good night, Soulmate-chan, hopefully you dream of me

Soulmate-chan: good night.

The next day you felt absolutely anxious.

The moment you woke up you were on guard, even if there was no way Oikawa could get in your own house. Still, you couldn’t help but look at your wardrobe in suspicion as if the boy would jump out of it any moment. Nor could you help but anticipate seeing him standing behind you through your mirror when you looked up again from washing your face.

When you walked into the kitchen you weren’t surprised to find it empty. Your mother stayed over at her boyfriend´s again as she did almost all the time. Leaving you alone with not just you schoolwork but also other tasks that kids your age usually didn’t have too worry about as much.

You only had enough time left to make yourself a toast that you took between your teeth as you were hastily putting on your shoes before storming out of your house.

Throughout the day your skittish behavior continued on. It didn’t help that your timer was seemingly going crazy. Maybe it was the fact that the two of you knew who each other were but it would easily jump from days to hours and back. It was strange and made you question in what way you were able to manipulate it.

Maybe the mere thought of going over to his school and meeting him would be able to influence your timer or maybe it was influenced by things that were beyond you.

You jumped when two trays suddenly hit the table you were sitting at in the moment. One beside you and the other one on the opposite of you. You shouldn’t be surprised anymore since the three of you ate lunch together for years without fail which made your jumpy behavior even more embarrassing.

You felt a soft red blooming on your cheeks.

“So do you want to tell us what the hell is wrong with you on your own free will or do we have to interrogate you?” Mina´s voice sounded from beside. You didn’t need to look at her to know that her eyes were burning into your skull.

You knew that the two of them would realize that you were acting off and you knew that they wouldn’t let it go, so you were already mentally prepared for this conversation.

“Well, I started to talk with my supposed soulmate” you said, making sure to keep your voice as steady as possible.

“You started talking? So you met him? Who is he?” Again, you didn’t need to look at Mina to know that her eyes were most likely sparkling.

“Wow, really? When the hell did that happen? Did you meet up last night?” Ray on the other hand seemed surprised, which you could understand.

“That is not exactly what happened” you put your arm forward, softly tucking at your sleeve to reveal your timer that was still ticking away on your wrists.

The black-haired girl furrowed her eyebrows at that while Ray looked at you in question.

“He texted me and to come back to Mina´s question. It´s likely Oikawa” you admitted before shoving a spoon with your food into your mouth.

“Oikawa?” The girl exclaimed excitedly “He is so cute! I cant believe your soulmate is such a-“

“Hey, shut up!” Almost chocking on your food due to her outburst you lunged forward to put a hand over her mouth. You didn’t need anyone to know that Oikawa was your soulmate. While you didn’t go to the same school, you could imagine that a social butterfly like him had connections everywhere or at least some fans.

You didn’t even confront him directly, so you sure as hell didn’t want to put up with some girls who thought of him as some kind of divine being.

“I don’t want the school to know. I don’t even know for 100%” you scolded her with a glare. She gave a muffled sorry and said some other words you couldn’t make out which was why you decided to let her go again.

“Are you sure it is him? You seemed unsure yesterday?” Ray asked you, remember the conversation the two of you shared while walking home together.

“As I said, I am not 100% sure but..” you stopped for a moment to find the right words “it is very likely since he seemed to have trouble with his soulmate running away from him” you continued.

“But how is it possible that the two of you have contact without stopping your timers?” Your female best friend finally asked the question that not even you could answer or at least you couldn’t answer it with certainty.

“Well, he has my number and texted me because he is sure I am his soulmate due to what happened yesterday. I believe you didn’t realize it Mina but the second before this thief tackled me out of the way, I was supposed to meet my soulmate, so-“

“so, if Oikawa didn’t decide to run after the thief the two of you would have met and that meeting lines up perfectly with the way your timer ticked down?” She finished for you, realization found it´s way on her face before she started to pout.

“That sucks! You were so close to meeting him. Now I am even more annoyed with that scum of a thief” she huffed.

“I guess, it played in my cards” you disagreed, slightly shrugging. It wasn’t like you were happy that your best friend was robbed and yes, you most likely would have preferred to meet your soulmate than having any kind of harm coming to your friends but a small part was also relived that that encounter bought you time.

“When are you going to meet up?” The question interrupted your train of thoughts, making you blink a few times.

“What?” you looked over to the male that was shoving his own food ungracefully into his mouth while waiting for your answer.

“You talked over the phone. The cat is out of the back. He knows who you are, so when are you going to officially meet?” the black-haired male clarified. You frowned.

“Not anytime soon,” you replied immediately.

“Wait what?” Mina piped in “you are telling me that you are still running? Come on, it´s starting to become old. Just go on a date already!” She encouraged you but knowing how much of a romantic she was you weren’t entirely sure if this was for you or just so you would live the romantic fantasy she imagined for you.

“We kind of made a bet or to be more exact: we started a game. We agreed that we wouldn’t actively seek each other out but if we are close to each other we will try to meet me while I will give everything to avoid that” you summarized what you talked about with Oikawa yesterday.

“It´s kind of weird but there is something romantic about it, too!” Mina grinned which made Ray roll his eyes.

“You see something romantic about everything!” He exclaimed, making your friend giggle.

“The world is full of romantic. Some people are just to bitter to see it” she countered, playfully sticking out her tongue.

“It´s really not like this. It´s the same as before. The only difference is that I now know who I have to avoid while he knows who he needs to find” you waved her off, hoping she would stop to put more meaning to the arrangement than there was.

“The two of you are hopeless but just wait. Oikawa will get you at some point and sweep you off your feet and you Ray, well, I just hope your soulmate doesn’t have too high expectations” you burst out laughing at her comment while Ray glared at her dangerously.

“Oh, that´s rich coming from the most annoying girl in existence. I can only pity your soulmate for having to put up with your loudmouth 24 hours” he spat.

“What did you just say?” Now it was her turn to glare at the tall male.

“You heard me” he replied dryly, and she was about to say something back when you decided to break this up.

“Let´s be real, we all three are exhausting as soulmates. Can we just agree on that and move on?” After all the three of you knew each other well enough to be aware of your good and bad sides.

“Fine, but there is one question I would like to have answered” Mina sighed. You looked at her, waiting for her to pronounce her question.

“How is it possible for you two to be in contact without disturbing your trigger?” You thought about it for a second but when you opened your mouth, Ray beat you to the punch.

“As I see it, there are to options. Either texting doesn’t count as meeting or the two of them aren’t soulmates. I would suggest looking it up if there are cases of people meeting online without knowing they are soulmates since you don’t want to meet Oikawa anytime soon”

“That’s a good idea. You only texted each other, right?”

You nodded.

“Yeah, it was late. I don’t know if a phone call can trigger the timer, but wouldn’t it jump then? Like if I asked him to call me right now, do you think my timer would jump to like two minutes and stop working when I answer the call? Or is technology something the universe just didn’t expect to happen?” You voiced out what has been on your mind all day.

“Technically, it shouldn’t matter if a phone call triggers it since you still wouldn’t have met him in person, but I am sure the internet will provide answers. You can’t be the first one to start of your relationship with your soulmate over the internet – even though you might be the only one to actually know that it is your soulmate” Ray said.

“We aren’t exactly in a relationship”

“Whatever”

As if scripted, you felt your phone vibrate. With a quick look you saw Oikawa´s name on your display. That reminded you that he even went through the trouble of sending you a quick good morning text. Even though you didn’t have time to answer and – (acted like)-  it slipped your mind.

[07:26 AM] Oikawa: Good morning, beautiful!

[12:33 PM] Oikawa: Sooo, how was your day? Have you already been bragging about me to your friends? ; )))

If he only knew.

Oikawa didn’t even notice that he was grinning at his phone like an idiot. His teammates who were in the changing room with him though, had no trouble pointing it out.

“What makes our captain look even more idiotic than usual?” Matsukawa asked while pulling his shirt over his head.

“Or to be more precisely, who?” Hanamaki piped in with a small grin on his face. Oikawa had always been a flirt but ever since his soulmate was close by he didn’t have eyes for anyone else, which was why the boys were surprised to have Oikawa staring at his phone like he just won the lottery.

“Believe it or not but that idiot finally found his soulmate but instead of cornering her he just sends her silly texts” Iwaizumi explained with a deadpan expression on his face. When he met up with Oikawa in the morning, the captain was even more energetic than usually. He didn’t even have to ask before Oikawa told him about  – as well as showed him – the texts he exchanged with his supposed soulmate.

Oikawa also informed him about this challenge which he personally thought to be stupid but when he saw the determination in Oikawa´s eyes he knew that there was no way to convince the male to drop this game and just find his soulmate.

“What do you mean they are texting?” Matsukawa´s eyes immediately fell to the brown haired male´s wrist. His eyebrows furrowed when he caught sight of the timer which was still working. “Your timer is still going” he pointed out.

“Yeah, well. We didn’t exactly meet in person yet. I saw the back of her head but that´s about it” Oikawa explained with a grin but the other boys looked at him with confusion.

“Then how do you know she is your soulmate? She could be a scam. Did one of your fangirls finally convince you that she is the love of your life?” Hinamaki joked, which earned him a pouty look of the captain.

“She isn´t a fangirl. She doesn’t go to our school. It´s complicated but I know it is her. We almost met and the timing was just too perfect. Her story with her soulmate also matches mine. There is just no way it´s not her. I can feel it” Oikawa tried to explain when he noticed how suspicious everyone was.

“A feeling? If you say so but that doesn’t explain why you don’t go and meet her?” Matsukawa threw in.

“She doesn’t want to meet him yet but he wants to. Instead of forcing her, though, he wants to beat her at her own game. I see it as a waste of time but I guess, some people could call it romantic” Iwaizumi replied before Oikawa could open his mouth.

Now that everyone was dressed he was the first one to leave the club room, followed by Oikawa and the other two boys.

“I call that stupid. Why wait? I would want to meet her immediately” Hanamaki admitted, a dreamy look took over his eyes as he thought about meeting his soulmate one day. 

Oikawa was aware that most people wouldn’t be as patient as him but he couldn’t bring himself to force you to meet him – at least not without going over all the other options.

You haven’t even met officially but your happiness already became one of his priorities.

[12:40 AM] Soulmate-chan: I wouldn´t call it bragging. More like analyzing the situation

[12:40 AM] Oikawa: You mean, analyzing how hot of a soulmate I am? ;))

[12:43AM] Soulmate-chan: Bye :)

[12:43 AM] Oikawa: Don´t leave me, Soulmate-chan. We know it´s the truth :<<<

Both of you smiled as you looked down at your phone.

Oikawa couldn´t help but be over the moon that you would answer him while you couldn´t deny that he was kind of adorable.

And hot, not that you would ever tell him.
