Make things right- Oikawa.
Tumblr media
You knew when you started dating Oikawa no one could get in the way of Volleyball. Not even the love of his life, you. At first he manage to juggle between you, your work, and volleyball. But as years went on he got lazy when it came to you. You never seen him, he was always at practice and never home for dinner. Iwaizumi always ended up coming over instead apologizing for Oikawa's behavior. You always brushed it off as if you didn't notice. And that worked for a while. Until your mother's funeral came around, she was sick and was on her death bed when you first met Oikawa. When you woke up that morning to an empty bed and a note saying he was headed out, which left you alone. You waited on your door step for him to return, never changing out of your dress. "Aww you waited for me... why do you look like you're going to a funeral?"
"Funny. I do, don't I? I wonder why... Oh, right. My mother died, Oikawa." His eyes widen and he took his phone out, cursing under his breath. "And I had to explain to my family why I was alone. It's not like I could say, 'oh he had better things to do... what you ask? Volleyball."
"That's not fair."
"Really? You wanna talk about fair? I wait up every night till 3 am for you. I cook you meals for when you get home. I don't get a simple thank you. You're never home. You get home at 5 am and up at 7. I never see you. This isn't fair to me."
"I'm trying my hardest. You know how I am, you should've thought about this before getting with me!"
"You kept begging to take me on a date! And that's my fault? I opened my heart to you. I let you in. You said you'd never hurt me, Oikawa. But you did. And I needed you today. And you weren't there." By now you're sure you had tears rolling down your face, Oikawa was too petty to realize how bad he messed up.
"Whatever." He began to walk away making you scoff.
"That's right, go back to your one true love. But mark my words Oikawa. You leave, we're done." The boy thought you were just being dramatic and left anyway. You sobbed and called Iwaizumi, you left a note after you packed all your belongings. Iwaizumi let you crash with him, hiding you from Oikawa if he'd stop by. A few months later you moved out and got your own place. You began the road to be an actor, you've found someone who loved you and you loved them. But deep down you always compared the littlest thing to Oikawa. Seeing how different they are. And how similar. You were in your office when you got the email to be the main lady in a romance sport movie. You ran to your boyfriend with the great news who congratulated you.
When you woke up you were so excited to get this done. You walked into the office smiling as you looked around. "Y/n...?" You stopped in your tracks, your smile faded as you turned around facing the one person you never expected to see. Toru Oikawa.
"Oikawa? W-What are you doing here?"
"I... they hired me to play in a sport movie. You?"
"Um... same."
"Oh, Oikawa, Y/n, welcome. You can follow me." You looked at him awkwardly as you followed the lady.
"Ah, my main roles met each other, I see."
"Huh?" You and Oikawa looked at each other in shock.
"I'm working with her?"
"I'm working with him?"
"Is that a problem? I can easily find someone else, Oikawa." What? The hope in your eyes dropped as she focused on him. "I do need you more, you are a excellent volleyball player. I need someone like you."
"No, it's fine. I can work with her." He watched as you looked at him silently thanking him.
"Oh... okay, then. Let's get to work." She began talking about the movie and how your role was suppose to fall in love with the volleyball player and have your heart broken when he choses to leave you for it. You looked down sighing, you looked over at Oikawa practically seeing the wheels turn in his head. This wasn't going to be easy, but this was your big break, you needed this. "Does that work for you two?"
"Yes." Oikawa looked at you, he really looked at you. He missed the way you smiled, the way you were so sure about your decision's.
"Oikawa?"
"Yes." Your boyfriend however wasn't pleased when he heard the news. You told him you needed this gig and that it'll help get your name out there. Even if it means you working with Oikawa. He ended up letting you do the role (even though it wasn't like you were asking permission). He was always at rehearsal though, keeping his eye on Oikawa. When it got to the first kiss, he always yelled cut, getting on your nerves and the directors. Oikawa was just pissed off at the moment, wanting to kiss you again even if it was fake.
"Action." You re-walked to the fake door for the 30th time smiling at Oikawa.
"I had fun, we should do this again."
"I agree... hey, c/n."
"Yeah?" He grabbed your hand stepping closer to you, your breath hitched as he stared into your e/c eyes watching his flicker from your lips to your eyes.
"Can... can I kiss you?" You suddenly felt the butterflies as if you time traveled back in time to the first time he asked you that.
"Yes." Oikawa cupped your cheek leaning in softly, stopping just before he touched your lips.
"I've been wanting to do this all night." And with that his lips finally touched yours. You relaxed at the familiar feeling as you grabbed his jacket and stepped closer to him. Your lips moving in perfect sync as they once did. Once you broke the kiss your cheeks were a slight red, you looked up into his eyes and broke into a smile. Oikawa couldn't help but copy it. He kissed your head and backed up. "Well... I'll see you around?"
"Call me."
"I will." You watched him leave and walked into the house, you felt yourself sink into the fake door as you suddenly remembered it was fake. A bell went off with a 'cut' following, you jumped and snapped out of it walking over to the director.
"That was beautiful, I felt the chemistry from here. You two have a spark."
"We do? I never noticed.." Oikawa snickered knowing you were being nice for your boyfriend who was sending Oikawa daggers. Over the scenes your boyfriend kept getting kicked off set, and Oikawa didn't mind at all. You were on your way home when you saw the trailer for your movie. You watched it getting into it yourself, you couldn't wait to see the finishing project.
"Y/n?" You looked into the glass seeing Iwaizumi smiling at you.
"Iwa!" You ran into the building hugging the lean fellow. "Hi."
"Hey. I saw your doing a movie with Oikawa? How?"
"I got called in, it was weird at first but... it's okay now."
"You miss him?"
"I'm with someone, Iwa."
"And? Are you in love with him?"
"Iwa."
"Y/n."
"You know I'll always love Oikawa. But that chapter is over for us."
"Is it? You're literally doing a movie about it. Do you wish you could change the outcome?"
"I wish Oikawa would've changed it back then, yes. But we can't. I can't. He really hurt me when he left that night."
"He hurt himself too. I never told you this, but when you two broke up... he sucked at volleyball."
"Very funny."
"No seriously. He got benched in Nationals because he kept screwing up. The man was a wreck."
"Why are you telling me this now?" He looked at the tv and paused it, showing a scene from the trailer. You looked and saw it was one where you weren't looking and Oikawa was.
"Because he's only ever looked at you like that. And I know that smile is real. I know you. And I know..." He grabbed your phone and turned it one showing you a picture of you and your boyfriend, "this one isn't. And he isn't looking at you like that."
"Iwa... I can't keep comparing him to Oikawa. It's wrong. I'm happy-"
"Are you? You know tomorrow is the big scene? The I choose Volleyball?"
"I know."
"You don't get it. I'm saying this because I love you, and I want things to work out for you and Oikawa. That guy in the photo isn't in love with you, and you aren't with him. Oikawa learned his mistake."
"I can't just end it with him." Iwaizumi sighed and turned you around to see your boyfriend with a female.
"He comes in here almost everyday. He made the first move yesterday. There, you have a reason."
"What makes you think he'll fix his mistake?" You asked Iwaizumi, he sighed and patted your head.
"Because I know, Oikawa."
--
When the day came you got more nervous as it was near time. Oikawa couldn't stop pacing, not ready for this scene at all. He stopped when the director called for him, he got in his area and so did you. On the steps but not in a dress. He walked up and smiled at you. "Hey, you waited for me.... what's wrong?"
"Where have you been?"
"Practice I told you that?"
"We had plans, my parents waited for us for 2 hours. Do you know how embarrassing that is? To have to make up an excuse?" Your eyes were already watering up, remembering this fight very vividly. "To come up with any excuse other than saying 'oh he had something come up... what you ask? Volleyball." Oikawa shook his head not wanting to replay this moment.
You said you'd never hurt me. But you did. And I needed you today. And you weren't there." By now you're sure you had tears rolling down your face, Oikawa was also crying this time.
"I..." He began to walk away making you scoff.
"That's right, go back to your one true love. But mark my words. You leave, we're done." Oikawa froze, he knew this all too well, he knew the outcome of this. A life without you. You waited for him to leave, you waited for him to remake his mistake. Instead he turned around and looked at you.
"What is he doing?" The director whispered about to yell cut when Oikawa spoke up.
"I could leave. I could choose volleyball because that's the only thing that's been there for me. I could give you a million reasons to go. But I only need one to stay, you." By now you were a mess. "I know if I leave now, my life will be a wreck without you. I'd get worse at everything. I won't be able to play volleyball right knowing that's what drove away my one true love. You. I won't be able to eat or sleep knowing you weren't home waiting for me. I won't be able to smile or make stupid jokes or go out with friends if it wasn't your smile I'm copying or your laugh I'm hearing at the end of my punchline or being out in public and crave your body next to mine." As he spoke he walked up the fake stairs and grabbed your hands, looking you into your eyes. "I'm not leaving you. I choose you. I'll always choose you. I love you, my sweet, sweet princess." He cupped your cheek and rubbed his thumb across it, wiping off the tears. "I love you." You smiled and quickly stepped onto your tippy toes kissing the boy with all the love and passion in the world.
"I love you, too." You wrapped your arms around him as you let the tears fall. Oikawa rubbed your back letting his head fall in the crook of your neck. "We should go inside." Oikawa smirked and backed away.
"Oh?" You smiled leading him in the house closing the door attaching your lips to his as the woman yelled cut. "I'm sorry I walked away."
"You're here now. I'm just glad I have you back."
"I love you." The director smiled at the two of you as you nuzzled into each other getting lost in your world. She couldn't have asked for a better ending.

Summer Event | Toru Oikawa x Reader
Tumblr media
Warnings : Mention of alcohol (not for the students), a lot of nicknames
Part 1 (optional) Part 2 (optional)
The last day of school before summer break had let out. Mad dashes and people scrambling over one another echoed down every hall as everyone tried to be the first one out. I decided that I would not be suicidal today. The classroom is fine for another five minutes. It took someone’s squished up face ramming into the class’s door for me to take out my phone. I’m tuning all this out. Upon flashing my phone’s screen on, I took notice of all the messages decorating my notification wall. The Karasuno group chat, Oikawa, Lev, Bokuto, Kuroo, Iwa, Kenma… when did I give them my number? I decided to open up from bottom to top, starting with Kenma’s. It was simple, explaining that he got my number from Kuroo. I did not give Kuroo my number either. He then asked if I was going to the firework show. Ah, as if I had a choice. The volleyball clubs in a bunch of schools around had planned a summer break party, including fireworks, barbecue, and water-related activities. I texted back that I was going and I’d see him there. Now, time to interrogate Kuroo. Heading over to his message next, he said he got my number from Bokuto. Another guy I DIDN’T GIVE MY NUMBER TO. I sent him the affirmative that I was going to the event. Bokuto time. Same song and dance again, he got his information from Lev. How Lev got my number, beats the hell out of me. Send an affirmative and move to Lev. His came from Iwa, and we all know where Iwa got my number from. I’d deal with that boy later.
I stood from my desk, opening up the group chat and being greeted with an explosion of all-caps. Hinata, Tanaka, and Nishinoya were making outrageous plans for the cookout portion. Something about buying a bull. That’s not what I needed to read, though. I scrolled up to the best of my ability, skipping past the past 45 minutes of screaming, and finally reached the calm planning part. The team planned to meet up around five at night. Alright, that gives me a good… hour and a half! Plenty of ti- I have no yukatas… Alright a short shopping trip it is.
Yukata acquired! It was a black and red one with koi fish. Simple but still pretty. Okay, now it was time to go home. While walking home, I slipped out my phone. I unlocked it and caught up to the group chat. Daichi was chewing out the trio for suggesting using paint in the water balloons instead of water, and Oikawa had sent two messages. Gotta bite the bullet some time. I opened up Toru’s messages.
Milk Bread: I’ll be going to the firework show tonight ;)
When are you going? We should go together :o
Hellllooooo I know you’re seeing these! :<
Iwa-Chan said you responded to him! :’(
<;’D
What is wrong with this guy?
Me: I was just getting a yukata! Quit sending so many emojis!
Milk Bread: :P so we’re :l going together =-D right? >:>
Me: I regret giving you my number
Milk Bread: =3
Me: I’m meeting with the team at 5
Milk Bread: ^^
Me: Come on now Kawa use your big boy words
Milk Bread: <3
Me: yeah that works <3
Slipping my phone away with a playful grin, I entered a light jog back home, wanting to hurry just in case Toru pulled some of his magic and appeared at my doorstep in the next 10 minutes.
Using the next hour to my advantage, I donned my new yukata, brushed my messy hair aside and out of my face, clipped on fake paper earrings, and freshened up with varying vanity items. Checking the time, I saw it was just about the designated meeting time along with multiple texts that announced their arrival at the meeting spot. Grabbing my keys, phone, bag, and water, I was shooting out of the house.
“Woah, what’s the rush, Suteki-Chan?” Two giant hands clasped around my shoulders, bringing me to a harsh stop. Looking up at my entrapment, I was met with a sickly sweet smile, his hair curling upwards flawlessly. He may be beautiful and he may have just called me the cutest nickname ever, but I was not going to be late. I lifted my arms and grabbed his hands that were still resting on my shoulders.
“Come on, Toru.” I yanked forward, causing the boy, now behind me, to lose his balance and trip forward.
“I’m losing my sandal!”
“Tell it no!” I was not stopping. Not for anything. Unless Toru actually did lose his shoe. I can’t just let him be half-barefooted.
Not long after, and without sandal casualties, we made it to the team meetup spot. I, proudly, strolled over to the rest of my team, Toru still in tow.
“Y/N-Chan.” Toru pouted from behind me, “You could’ve given me a warning. Is my hair messed up?” I released the boy’s hands and turned around to give him an evaluation.
“Hmmmm… nope!” To further convince the upset setter, I gave the most comforting grin I could.
“You better be telling the truth…” Toru continued to pout, but reached his left hand to grab onto my right one.
“Y/N IS HERE!” Well, not anymore. The speed that Toru pulled his arm away had me concerned he’d pull a muscle. Mere seconds passed before Hinata was all over the scene.
“What’s Oikawa doing here again?!” Cue Toru’s fake smile.
“Believe it or not, Y/N’s my friend. Makes sense I’d want to go see fireworks with my friend, right?” Hinata nodded.
“Yeah! That makes sense.”
“Now that introductions are over, let’s get moving, yeah?” Coach Ukai suggested, clearly not wanting to be chaperone that night.
“Yes sir!” Taka and Noya bellowed, saluting. A tick of silence floated by before Hinata saluted along with the other two. Ukai responded with a drawn-out sigh and a pinch to his nose bridge. He began walking with a concerned Takeda following, causing everyone else to duckling behind.
“What’s his problem?” Toru leaned down to whisper at me after we were safely tucked in the back of the group. I turned my head to whisper back.
“I think he’s hungover.”
“Hungover?”
“They asked him to chaperone at the last minute. He ranted about it in his office.”
“How-How did you hear?” I sighed.
“I was just trying to ask him for the storage key.” Toru’s gaze held great concern. “Don’t worry, he’s just going to be snappy. Me and Noya call him turtle.” Oikawa said nothing in return, instead opting to rest his fingers right below my elbow.
“Your team is weird.” A playful tone, a teasing smirk, and the soft tickle cascading down my arm let me know that he meant that in the best way. No reason to let him off the hook, though.
“Ah, rude. So I’m weird too?” A chuckle surrendered out of the boy’s chest, the tickle down my arm worming its way into my hand’s grasp.
“You’re the weirdest one.” I used the hand he wasn’t holding to flick his chest.
“That why you get along with me so well?”
“Hah… Shut up.” Toru gave my hand a squeeze, not too hard to be harsh, but definitely not lovingly soft either. I was glad Toru was going to the occasion, of course the rest of Aoba Johsai was going, but Toru was going with me! I was looking forward to spending quality time with him, we hadn’t had much of that since he snuck into training camp that one time. We also hadn’t really gotten much of a chance to talk about our future, or about us. The talk was for sure coming, but golly gee I’m nervous.
“Tanaka, what are you wearing?!” I was pulled out of my thoughts by the familiar sound of Nishi.
“Ugh, okay my sister took my sandals for some stupid project or something and my mom is steam cleaning my sports shoes! These were all I had!” Said man lifted his arms, showing off sneakers that were more like ankle boots, and they… also look like… a cast? I slapped a hand over my mouth to stop from erupting into a fit of giggles.
“Why not just wear your normal, everyday shoes?!” Suga wailed.
“What do you think these are?!” Baldie gestured wildly at his shoes.
“Oh brother.” Tsukishima huffed out.
15 minutes of walking and lightly making fun of Tanaka’s shoes led us to the large park where numerous others were already setting up. The grills were firing up to start grilling the greasiest meats possible, four buckets of water balloons were filled with more coming, two sprinkler sections were set, and a huge box of explosives were being hauled into a safe corner. I sure hope it’s safe anyway. We don’t need a bunch of volleyball players getting into those. Suddenly, I had a terrible, horrible, awful thought.
“Toru, did you bring blankets?” Panic evident in my voice over the imminent threat of grassy scratchy torture.
“I brought a blanket.” Heh… hehehe… schmoozing time. I donned a dreamy smile and fluttered my eyelashes up at the captain.
“Toru~” Toru~ picked up what I was trying to say quickly.
“Aww, forget your blanket, Y/N-Chan?” Before I could nod, Oikawa cupped my chin in his hand, squishing my cheeks upwards. “Say please~” This little shit.
“Pweash?” Seemingly pleased with this answer, he let go of my chin.
“I was gonna let you sit with me anyway~” My face darkened, and I lunged at this teasing moron. Of course, just like how he caught up with me in the parking lot all those months ago, he easily outran me with his stick legs.
“I’ll get you when you least expect it, Oikawa!” I yelled after the still-retreating boy.
“What did he do this time?” Another voice startled me, causing me to jump and turn around. “Sorry.” It was just Iwa.
“Oh, you’re fine. He was-”
“-being a sweet and perfect angel, of course!” Speak of the devil. Toru sidled up beside me and laid his elbow on my shoulder, grinning innocently at Iwa. Iwa just glanced dubiously at me, and in return, I gave him a small head shake.
“He’s all yours, Y/N.” Iwa left no room for rebuttals in his walk away. I wasn’t sure to feel happy or devastated at being left alone with Oikawa.
“Now that we’re all alone, Y/N-Chan, let’s go throw balloons at people.” Ah, yes, happy.
“Okay!” Toru steered me over to the designated warzone, topped off with overturned tables and bucket stations. “I do hope you’re not planning on turning on me during the war.” I warned him; I could see right through him.
“Neverrrrrr.”
“Toru.” I warned once more.
“Come onnnnn you know me!”
“Toru.” Said man stood still for a moment, drinking in my cautioning face. That didn’t stop him, though. He pirouetted, lurched forward, and, before I could stop him, grabbed a balloon and lobbed it at me. I dove for cover, but I was hit.
It grazed my hip. I’m done for. I hit the ground and turned over on my back. Raising a hand in the air, I beckoned Toru over. He edged over, afraid of a sneak attack.
“Y/N?”
“T-Toru? Is that you? Oh, thank the heavens. Come closer.” I let my arm flop to the ground beside me. Toru listened and scooted closer, albeit slowly. “Listen, I’m not gonna last much longer. *cough cough* It’s getting cold, hard to breathe. I’m glad to spend my final moments with you. *gasp* Please, tell my family I love them.” I grappled onto Toru’s hand, pulling him just a little closer so he could hear me take my final gasp for breath before I “died.”
“...Y-Y/N-Chan?” Toru scrambled forward, placing his ear right above my chest before gasping dramatically and falling back. He grabbed fistfuls of grass and yanked upward, taking the grass with him as he bellowed out a “NOOOOOOOO.”
“Hey everyone, the food is ready!” A random dude shouted out. I shot into a standing position.
“Time’s-a wastin’ Kawa.” I darted toward the food table along with other much taller and beefier teenage boys. I’ve already reached the point of no return, no turning back now.
“Woah! No rush, Y/N!” Toru’s arms wrapped around my waist to hold me back, allowing the rush of men to dogpile the steaks. I was singing my praises to Toru’s stick legs this time.
“Oh- thank you, Ruru. I was too blinded by the hunger.”
“Eh- Ruru?!”
“Mhm! It’s cute.” I wiggled out of his grasp and casually approached the swarm of vultures. It’s fight or die.
Alright, so it was not fight or die. Everyone was very pleasant. Imagine a mosh pit, except instead of a band, there’s just a burger on stage. It was exactly like that. Now I was happily eating a hotdog next to Toru, who was eating everything.
“Do you wanna go back to the water after we eat, N/N (nickname)?” Oh, and Toru is now calling me N/N.
“Hmm, how much longer until the firework show?” Toru chuckled at that question, resting his head on his hand.
“How am I supposed to know?”
“Okay, fair. Can we play in the sprinklers?”
“Mhm, anything you want, Y/N-Chan~”
I had planned to splash around for about half an hour. Surprise surprise when Toru and I wrapped towels around ourselves an hour and a half later. Neither of us had brought a change of clothes, so there we were, hair and clothes soaked and sore throats from laughing. I expected to have fun with Oikawa today, but what I wasn’t expecting was to fall even harder for him. A surprise, sure, but a welcome one. There was an announcement for the firework show; it was starting in ten minutes. That announcement was what made us finally dry off.
“Hey, Y/N! Haven’t seen you around all day.” A voice came from behind me. I peered over my shoulder to see Suga smiling softly. “The team agreed to sit near each other. We’d love for you to join.” The thought of sitting with them warmed my heart, but the thought of getting to talk with Oikawa filled me with the fuzziest feeling. The choice was clear.
“Well, I’d love to Suga, but I was planning on sitting with Oikawa.”
“Speaking of. I’m going to set up a spot for us, Y/N-Chan.” Oikawa flashed a cocky smirk as he walked off with our blanket. Once the captain was out of ear-shot, Suga placed a soft hand on my shoulder, coupled with a knowing smile.
“Y/N, you know I trust your judgement, but be careful with him, alright? Just in case the rumors turn out to be true.”
“Rumors?” I turned to fully face the setter, and said boy let his hand fall off my shoulder.
“That he’s a ladies’ man. I don’t know if he… uh, swings that way.” My mind blanked. Oh god… Oh Suga… I shyly smiled back at the boy in front of me.
“I’ll be careful, promise. And I’ll be alright if he doesn’t swing that way.”
“Good luck.” Suga waved and was on his way. Oh, he was so sweet. I went on my way as well, seeking out the still-drying swoops of hair. He was sitting all the way in the back, like, all the way. I began my hike, trekking through the spiky summer grass, past all the dudes chatting with their pals. The good news, I made it in one piece. The bad news, there was barely any time to talk with Oikawa about everything. Well, no shame in trying. I sat gingerly beside the brunette boy, enjoying the closeness of sharing a blanket.
“Toru? Can we talk?”
“Hm? Oh, yeah of course. What is it?”
“Well, there’s two things actually.”
“I still want to hear it.” Toru lightly joked, nerves shining through his tone.
“At training camp, the kiss.” Toru lightly hummed.
“What about it?”
“Can we do it again? Wait- hang on that’s-” Beside me, Toru burst into a fit of laughter.
“You liked it, yeah?”
“Well, uh, I like you and, like, yeah, I did.”
“You like me?” Toru sent a sly smirk my way, eyes shining with adoration. Looking into those eyes got my mouth all dry.
“I- Didn’t I just say that? Wait, that came out wrong-”
“So, what you’re telling me is… you wanna date? Officially?” I frantically nodded at my blanket buddy, thankful he said it so I didn’t have to.
“Oh- we still have to keep it a secret.” I quietly reminded.
“I can work with that. I still get to have you.” Toru’s words went straight from my ears to my cheeks.
“So, about my question earlier?” A surprised chuckle escaped Toru’s lips.
“I think we can arrange that.” And with those six words, Toru cupped my cheek and leaned sideways to close the gap between us. This, our second kiss, was much sweeter than our first. It showed both of our feelings, our vulnerabilities that we only ever showed when together. This felt right, it felt blissful. Faintly, I heard a sharp whistle. It disappeared before exploding into a cacophony of color. Slowly, we pulled apart, gazing into each other’s eyes.
“Toru, I adore you…”
“I see the cat returned your tongue.” I gently laughed.
“It was a tough battle, but I emerged victorious.” Matching my loving smile, Toru leaned in again, placing a gentle smooch upon my nose and then between my brows.
“What was the other thing you wanted to talk about? If it’s as good as this one, I need to hear it.” I chuckled.
“It’s a little heavier. Our future. After we graduate. That sort of thing.”
“Ah, well I’d hate to ruin this very new relationship.”
“Come on, try me. I can handle anything.”
“I’ll just come out and say it, then… I want to rob yachts.” Caught completely off-guard, I snort-laughed. Embarrassment commencing. Instead of teasing laughter, like I was expecting, I heard the sparkling sound of a quiet and genuine laugh from Toru Oikawa himself. “Sorry, sorry. I still want to play volleyball. I can’t imagine a life without it, y’know.” Coming down from his laughing, he turned his serious eyes over at me. “That could mean traveling… the world, maybe.” My eyes widened the slightest bit at the reality that Toru could leave. He could go to Sweden or to Zimbabwe. While pondering the possibilities over, I realized one major thing: the overwhelming feeling of happiness that he’d be chasing his dreams. That was the moment I had decided. I placed a comforting hand over his much larger one.
“I hope you enjoy video calls, then. At least until I graduate too.” It was Toru’s turn to widen his eyes, the look in them, swimming with emotions. He was completely vulnerable, allowing himself to open up to me. He was truly terrified while waiting for my answer. This moment, I’m burning this one into my brain. The moment I decided Toru Oikawa was the one for me. Fireworks went off left and right in the background, they sounded dim in this moment, as Toru hurriedly leaned in and placed another kiss to my lips, conveying every single emotion he was feeling into the kiss. Settling into it, I raked one of my hands through his slightly-damp hair, massaging his head. Once he pulled back, he tugged me into his chest quickly, I assume to hide me from seeing something. Oh… he was crying, wasn’t he? I smiled into his chest and wrapped my arms around his midsection, looking to the sky to watch the rest of the fireworks.

You were on the bus with the rest of Seijoh. You guys were heading to the beach, it was a short field trip ever since you had lost to Karasuno at Inter-high. “We’re here!” The bus driver called out.”Oikawa! You should get my bags for me!” You yelled and ran out before he could disagree.”Y/n-chan!” Oikawa sighed.
Everyone came out from the bus. You had already set up your towel and umbrella. “Y/n-san!” You heard a voice yell. You lifted your sunglasses to see Kindaichi waving at you. “Did Oikawa bring my bags?” You asked with a bored face. “Yes I did!” Oikawa yelled from the back, running up to you.
“Okay.” You said plainly, lowering your sunglasses. You heard splashing from the team in the ocean, you felt two hands on your feet and two hands on your arms. “What?-” You asked, slowly being raised higher. You raised your sunglasses to see Mattsun in front of you and Iwaizumi in the back.”Guys!” You yelled before they started swinging you side to side and counting.
“1…” 2…” They continued. “You guys!” You flapped around. “3!” They pushed you into the ocean laughing. “Fuck you! You little dip shits!” You yelled. “Y/n-chan language!” Oikawa said, covering the first year's ears.
vry short sorry! its late and i lost motivation :(

tooru oikawa x reader - coffee date - one shot
fluffy fluff.
-
the volleyball game against karasuno was soon to be ending. you sat there on the bleachers worried for him.
will they win? will they lose?
you had no idea but it was the only thing on your mind. each time aoba johsai scored a point, you got so excited. and each time karasuno scored a point, you got nervous.
after some time, aoba johsai ended up losing to karasuno. as the boys rushed to clean up the court and get whatever they needed, you rushed down.
you ran over to oikawa and iwaizumi, "no matter what, you guys are amazing. our team is amazing. one loss doesn't mean the end of it!"
you shouted, oikawa stood there as he tried his best to smile. knowing that his best was on the court. iwaizumi smiled softly and pat your head.
"i can leave you with him for a moment," iwaizumi said as he walked away.
"tooru, it's okay to show defeat. but guess what? you didn't lose in my eyes. you put your all into it, and i know in the future you'll be an amazing player!"
"you're not gonna stop until i smile, well of course. my smile, is beautiful~"
"you're an idiot, tooru. but you are also a good player. a loss is a loss, but if you learn from it, it can be a win."
oikawa perked up and smiled, "mhm? i guess so. wow, i never knew you were so smart, y/n-chan! did you learn it from me?~"
you rolled your eyes and brushed it off.
later as everyone was walking to the nearest ramen shop, you couldn't help but think oikawa is hiding something.
and of course, you weren't wrong. he's oikawa, he dislikes to be below anyone.
as you all entered the ramen shop and ordered your meals, you decided to become brave and ask away.
"uh, hey, tooru? would-"
"y/n-chan, wanna go on a coffee date with me?"
"did you.. just read my mind?"
"oo~ did i? might be another amazing skill i have. because i'm so talented!"
"i could just say no,"
"hey, don't do that"
you all ended up having fun and forgetting about the loss. until kindaichi cried about it. fun while it lasted.
being aoba johsai's manager was simple enough. and the boys weren't AS troublesome as you thought. besides oikawa's fangirls on him every second like moths to light.
a few days passed, to which came the date that you and oikawa decided to go to a café.
oikawa, of course, thought he was so romantic and slick choosing a place that was lowkey expensive. your poor wallet probably won't recover.
you sat down at a window seat and waited for his arrival, to your surprise it wasn't that long of a wait.
"you got here pretty fast,"
"do you really think that low of me?"
"maybe"
you both laughed it off and got your desired drinks. you guys talked about a lot of things, to your surprise once again you had things in common.
besides being a cocky bastard who thinks you're the prettiest princess. now that crown, goes to him.
"y'know tooru, you're pretty"
"i-i'm what?"
"pretty.. annoying sometimes. you have to learn how to not be so stubborn sometimes. i know you're still sulking about the loss"
"and here i thought you'd be nice to me"
"maybe this will help your idiocy"
you give him a small kiss on the cheek as you pack your things and walk out the café. smiling and waving at him as he's burning red and in shock.
a bit after you left, he decided to text you.
"thank you for being here for me"
((im so sorry this is so bad, but my 1am smooth brain had an idea and i went with it. and so sorry its so short and fast paced. i had no idea what to do?? help how do people write so amazingly))
((for my best friend sora <33 and anyone who reads this ,, ok ty i hope u like it, loves ! ))

Say Oikawa-san, will you still remember me, or will you force yourself to forget me?
isn't it funny how you were the one who wanted this, but it is also you who ends us?
How fool am I to think that I know you.
"Tooru! Wait for me!!" You run up to him. He stops and glare at you "Ck. Didn't I told you not to call me that?" He held out his hand. You were confused by his gestures. You assumed he wants to hold your hand, so you held your hand out to him. However, he immediately slapped your hand away and mocked at you.
"I did not ask for your hand, Your Majesty. Give me back my jacket" you slowly taking off his jacket and gave it to him. He yanks it away and walks off, leaving you alone by yourself. You sat down on the swing, staring at the full moon that shines brightly.
Here you are, in front of the park where you met him for the first time, where he asks you out, and also the place where he decided to end the ties between you and him, filled with memories even to this day. You were wondering why he asks you to meet up with him at this place again, turns out he only wanted the jacket he gave you a month ago.
You're such a fool. Only because you used to be Oikawa's girlfriend does not mean you can call him by his first name anymore. Just because you both had something doesn't mean you can be together again. Why do you think he would want to hold your hand? You messed up again (y/n), now he will hate you even more. Why do you act like this?
Because you love him, yet there's nothing you can do when it comes to him. He's your favourite. He's like a star, shines so brightly. Even when the sun starts to rise, and it's light overcome him, you still longing for him. How can you love someone else when you only wants him?
"Why are you still here?" A deep, familiar voice snapped you out of your though. You look up and smile. "You came back." His heart aches whenever he hears the sadness in your voice. His gaze softened and take place at the swing beside yours. "You can sit there if you like, I'll leave you alone." You stand up and leave, but he grabs your arm to stop you.
"Stay, please. I didn't mean it that way." He looks at you with pleading eye. You never really know him. Both of you sit down at the swings, he looks at you and says "It's late, just go home already." You don't want to answer him, so you keep your mouth shut.
"Oikawa-san, why do you broke up with me?" don't you know you were all that I have? "I don't feel the same love again. I'm sorry." you can't help the tears from flowing out of your eyes. "Only that? Not because of her? The one you've been cheating with from days ago? Before you decided to leave me?"
He didn't speak but continues listening to you "You didn't expect me to knew it did you?" wiping your tears with your sleeve, you look at him. "It will be so hard for me to let you go." you know he won't say anything "Can you please tell me what you said exactly one year ago? The one that I love to hear the most." He takes a shaky breath and fulfils your wish.
"I love you (y/n)"
-end-
Notes: there we go I hope you enjoy it. It takes a few days for me to really feel sad and write this. Hope i didn't disappoint you 😅

'Oikawa's Biggest Loss'
Warning : Short Angst / Break up
Tumblr media
You burried your face in the pile of paper as the sunsets into the mountains and the breeze of agony blows from the window you sitting in, Exams will be held next week true agony it is.. You sighed as you closed the window and felt the silent eerie in your classroom, you stayed behind to check up on your notes real quick but instead it went for an hour,
( Ding Ding )
You took a glimpse at your phone clock 5pm sharp, Oikawa has texted you
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oikawa
Hey ! Your friend told me your still on your room??
You replied
I'm going out now , are you waiting?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He didn't replied to your msg
You went outside just to see no one but some students, the guard and a janitor, you went to check the court if his still there practicing, but your steps were the only one echoeing the place with some balls scattered,
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You texted him
What the hell? Are you trolling me, Its not funny..
Oikawa
What?
Where the hell are you? I'm serious, we have exams next week
Oikawa
Since when did I told you I was there?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right, you felt like a fool, what the hell? I mean in defense Oikawa always waits for you whenever your going to stay long in school, you didn't replied back instead you went to your friends house to help her with her essay and make a study session perhaps a group study...
You left Oikawa a message
" I'm going to my friends house, study session, i'll be back at 7pm "
7:17pm
You finaly arrived back at you and Oikawa's shared apartment, but he wasn't there? You took a glimpse at your phone and saw Oikawa's left message
" alrigth, I'm at mad dogs housee we have a small partyy on last weeks victoryy !!! "
You sent a heart emoticon back as he left it seen, party? Again? After Oikawa's victory over Nekoma and Date Tech's matches, the whole week they have been partying, the silence on the apartment was so loud the whole week you were still thankful because in two days the Examination will start, atleast you have peace...
He isn't even gonna study? Whatever.. you were tired, tired of these parties and silence but you chose to ignore..
1 more week later
( examinations are finished )
Oikawa scores were low but still somehow passed.. he still is ignoring you leaving you messages and reasons like
" I have a practice, I'm going to Mad dogs house, Imma go jog, -----....
And ending conversations with a sarcastic and prideful " whoah really? Thats cool '
Cold nights where chilling even when your beside him he is so far away, out of reach.. unable to start a conversation and if you would he would love to end it immedietly.. Each word, each secord stabs you heart
' This isn't Oikawa '
And 2 weeks it is, 2 weeks of him ignoring you, you were very patient but why? You support him with all your heart through his passion and desires, you respect him to get some rest, you remind him to study well.. but all of you emotions were mixing
' This isn't Oikawa '' This isn't Oikawa ''' This isn't Oikawa '
' Why? Is he seeing another woman '
You called Oikawa just for him to not answer, and finaly asks his classmates if where was he or the team? when suddenly beside his classroom a storm of fan girls hugging and kissing Oikawa's cheeks filled with bliss and happiness taking photos and posing for each one of them, smiling up to the sky still holding the achievements acomplished to history of his memory
He was happy? Without you? Those nights were so cold, the eerie was taking over your senses as you quickly rushed to the bathroom and washed you face as it washed you tears and emotions away,
Your eyes darkened so empty, so tired...
' This isn't Oikawa '' This isn't Oikawa '' This isn't Oikawa '
Your emotions was drained going back infront of his classroom and stared at the window, when he finaly notices your eyes empty, hurt and tired.. he realized you were there, he neglected you for two simple victories
You smiled at him throught the window as he ran off the croud and ended up still not seeing you he texted reasons and appologies trying to call you leaving voice messages as you already packed your stuff from the apartment finaly meeting him panting at the door
" I-I'm sorry, It isn't what you think, I neglected you! I ignored you!- "
Those words no longer reach you
" why? " you asked with a cold tone
why why why why why
" Why did you ignore? Why did you neglected? Why? You were consious, You knew!"
He cried, He cried, He cried
He didn't want to loose you, but why?
Tears burst to your cheecks as he attemps the put his hand like a cup and wipes it but you slap it off and gave a pathetic smile saying
" Your happy, you won, and I give up, your not the Oikawa I met "

Let Him Cry
Word Count: 3064
Anime: Haikyuu!!
Character: Oikawa Tooru
Tumblr media
Oikawa waited off the court for a moment, ready for the ball to do what it needed to. His last set was perfect for Iwaizumi to spike. It had looked like a master move from the spectators stands. But there was a block by the opponent. Karasuno had the ball on their side and they looked sure as Hell determined to win.
Y/N saw from the watcher's seats. She was here to see her boyfriend win the match he's been looking forward to for weeks.
'Y/N! You should watch my match again, it'll be better than the last one!'
'Watch us beat little Tobio and his small spiker, Princess.'
'I need my biggest supporter there, Y/N!'
He would drone on and on about it for days. Y/N had decided since the start that she would come to all his games anyways. They were Third Years and wanted to make the most out of their last year.
"Come on, you can do it, Tooru..." She whispers to herself, gripping the bar handles. She leant forward a bit, catching the look on Oikawa's face as he ran back to his spot on court.
Some of his fangirls were on the side, gasping excitedly from their spots. They had asked Y/N earlier what it was like to date such a hot volleyball player, and she replied with 'everything I had dreamed it would be and more'. Needless to say, the couple was proud to be together.
The intensity of the match was ruthless. Everybody was on the edge of their seata for it. Kageyama on the other side had set the ball to Hinata, ready for their crazy quick attack. Three blockers jumped up, a wall that looked impossible to get through.
But Hinata did it.
He spiked the ball harshly, the sound ringing through Y/N's ears. She watched as Oikawa went to recieve, but the ball hit the ground. Karasuno got the winning point.
As the others cheered, Oikawa stared to where the ball hit the court. He couldn't believe it. This wasn't how things were supposed to be for him.
"Oh no..." Y/N knit her brows as Oikawa glanced back at the winning team. He looked so shocked. One of his teammates patted his back lightly, moving off to stand in a line with the others. The captain looked behind him, seeing all these pairs of eyes directed back at him. But Y/N's ones stood out.
He gulped, his face feeling like it burnt as Y/N's hands left the railing. She pressed her lips together. That was when Oikawa decided to move to his spot.
"Thank you for the match!" They yelled out to each other. The coaches spoke a bit to the teams and then sent them off, as the next team needed to practice. Y/N watched as Oikawa slapped his hand against Iwaizumi's back as the ace stood still.
Seijoh then lined up in front of the higher stands. They bowed.
"Thank you for watching!" The boys called. There were a fair amount of people there, some having to stand up as they couldn't see the mach. Y/N and the rest clapped, cheering them on.
"You all did so well!"
"That was a great rally!"
"Those moves was fantastic!"
"Can't wait to see where you all go!"
Y/N leaned against the railing, sending a sweet smile to her friends, who nodded back at her before walking to get their things ready. She turned to Oikawa, who was already staring back at her.
As the cheers died down, Y/N called out to him, "Nice game, Seijoh! We're all proud of you!" Oikawa kept his eyes on her, a small smile on his lips as tears cascaded down his cheeks. As he turned to get his things, she began making her way down to them.
A few minutes later, Y/N is being pat on the head by each member of the team. "Thanks for coming, L/N." They all said, making her softly grin at the team. Hanamaki chimes, "We could all hear you cheering for us."
"Even more for your lover boy over here." Matsukawa elbows Oikawa, who slings his bag over his shoulder. He seems to have snapped back into reality. Iwaizumi placed a hand on her shoulder. "It was nice of you to spend your time on us." He informs the girl, taking his hand off and gripping his bag.
As the others begin to leave, Y/N waits for her boyfriend. "You ready to go?" She asks as Oikawa scans the courts for the last time he would as a player. He grins a bit at his girlfriend. "Yeah, thank you." Oikawa speaks, walking towards her and kissing her forehead.
A few more tears had escaped his eyes, making Y/N reach up, kiss his cheek and wipe them away. She sighs quietly, "Let's get going, Pretty Boy. You'll be back on the court soon enough." Oikawa can't help but nod his head, holding back the sadness.
The coach called them all to the bus, everybody boarding as told to. Y/N sat in between Iwaizumi and her boyfriend in the back seat.
The ace was against the bags and such, leaning his head against it and staring off into nothing before closing his eyes. Oikawa was searching out the window, covering his chin and mouth with the arm leaning against the ledge. The rest of the bus was filled with quiet talking and snoozing, but Y/N could feel the saddened aura coming off Oikawa.
Silently, she slipped her hand into his that was on his lap. She squeezed his palm and laid her head on his shoulder/upper-arm.
"You're so amazing, Tooru." She whispers, pressing a kiss to his outer palm. The boy looks down at her, seeing her eyes closed. He releases their fingers and wraps an arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer and he interlaced his other hand with hers.
"You are too, Beautiful."
A few hours later, they were off the bus and ready to go home. Iwaizumi glanced at his phone as his friends spoke a few feet away. "You did great today, Tooru." Y/N speaks, hand on his cheek.
"Thank you, Y/N." He sighs, leaning into her palm. She goes on the tips of her toes and kisses his lips softly but passionately, closing her eyes to savour the moment. Oikawa holds her waist closer to his body, warmth emitting from Y/N.
When they pull away, Y/N hums, "I'll see you tomorrow, Tooru, we can go relax since it's Saturday." He nods his head, kissing her cheek before waving 'goodbye'. Iwaizumi lived nearer to her than Oikawa did, so he offered to see her home. Of course, Oikawa would always detest.
He would say things like 'Iwa-chan! Are you trying to steal my Princess? I should tell on you!' or 'No, no, Iwa-chan, what kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn't walk my Treasure home? I can do it!'. But today, he seemed to let it off easily.
The two turned the corner, leaving Oikawa to walk by himself.
"I'll win her the final."
Hours Later . . .
"What the—?" Y/N gasps, trying to sit up. She felt a movement in her bed, and she slept alone.
For sure it wasn't Giyuu, her brother had been asleep before her as he spent last night training with his master. It was dark in her room, but she could make out a single silhouette kneeling at her side on the mattress.
Before she can call out a name, the figure slides out the pillow she was hugging to her chest and replacing it with their head, arms around her waist.
Y/N's hands remain in the air, confused to the fullest. "I—Uh, who—...Please, um, this..."
It isn't until she rests a palm on the person's head that she figures out who it it.
She runs her fingers through his soft, nice smelling hair. "Tooru, what's going on? Is there an emergency?" She stays laying down, Oikawa only tightening his grip and allowing a hand to rub her back. It only hurts her heart more.
Usually, Oikawa would immediately tell her the problem. There was no shying away for the two. But hearing him be so quiet was... weird.
"Hey, hey, Tooru, come on... talk to me please." She wraps both her arms around his neck, shifting her legs to be arched at his torso. She dug her nose into his hair. "I'll listen, you just have to tell me." She coos, staring at the roof.
It's only when she hears soft sniffles that Y/N's eyes widen. Oikawa's happy, energetic state was now replaced with a sulking, upset aura. This was the first time in months that he's been this way. She quietly gasps and hugs Oikawa tightly back, running her hands up his arm.
He has only ever cried for real in front of her once. And that was when he injured himself to be better than Kageyama. He was so distraught that he was 'wasting time' with his injury, leading to him having a crying session with Y/N during second period.
He ran to her classroom and asked to see Y/N. His face showed no sign of sadness and his voice was confident, only until they were alone on the staircase. Then he cried. She didn't know what to do exactly. Oikawa was strong, but everyone has their wounds.
"Shh, it's okay Tooru, I'm here. You've got nothing to worry about. You're safe." She hums, kissing his forehead. She made sure the door was closed, looking over to it. She didn't want to be too loud as for Giyuu to wake up and irritatingly question them.
Oikawa sucks in his breath, sitting up and wiping his cheeks. His breathing was ragged, uncontrolled what-so-ever. He kept his hands covering his eyes, only the aftermath of the tears showing on his face. Y/N gets on her knees, pushing the blanket away and pulling his face closer to hers.
The mattress dips as Oikawa drops his hands. In the dim light that came through the slips in the curtains, Y/N could make out Tooru's pout and watery eyes. The way his lip quivered to stop little strangled sobs to come out.
She wanted to tell him that it was okay to cry loudly, but she knew that Giyuu would hate having to wake up at 12 and Oikawa hated being vulnerable to strangers. The only people outside his family who have helped him through his crying would be Y/N and Iwaizumi.
She doesn't say much, just wiping away the tears that escaped his block and hugging him securely. The arms around his torso only make Oikawa's face grow more red and the tears keep flowing. "I have you, Tooru. You can breathe now. It's just me and you, no one else. I know you're going to be okay and you'll be back to your loveable self." Y/N tells him, closing her eyes.
She was super tired but Oikawa was in a worse state. Y/N moved her arms as she ran her fingers through his locks. He gulps, leaning his head down against her shoulder. A few sniffs later, he says groggily, "I'm sorry..."
Y/N shakes her head, arms around his neck as she spoke, "No, don't apologise. I gave you a key for whenever you wanted. You have nothing to be sorry for, Tooru." She can feel the tears coming from his eyes drop onto her shoulder, the thin fabric only loosening the fall by a little second.
She runs her fingers through his locks. "Do you want to talk about the game? We don't have to, we can just lay here." Oikawa glances at the sheets. He felt a little bad for disrupting her slumber. Slowly, Oikawa laid his head on the pillow and dragged her down. Y/N pulls the blankets up and over his shoulders.
Oikawa sniffs again, tugging her closer and leaning his forehead against hers, their noses bumping. He grips the fabric of her shirt and entangles their legs together. Y/N reaches up and wipes his cheeks.
"Why does he have to be better than me?" Oikawa asks, whispers cracking his tone. Y/N halts her movements, pulling away for a second before feeling Oikawa's grip tighten. The small movement asking her to stay here.
"I've tried so hard... but Tobio is—he is still so much more better than me. No matter what I try to do, he is always ten steps in front of me." Oikawa says to her, "Kindaichi told me about middle school. Tobio was a terrible teammate, and for some reason I was just so happy to be better at that than him."
He furrows his brows. "But you saw him today. He—He was so nice to his team, he was able to play with them like they've been there for him since the beginning. Why couldn't I complete was much as him?"
He wipes his eyes. "This was my last shot to beat him again. To prove that I am better than him and that we shouldn't compare each other anymore. Iwa-chan even said that this year would be our year..." Oikawa finally looks at her again. "Was I wrong to try and win again? Is it passed my time now?"
"Tooru... Kageyama may be great, but I know that you are too." Y/N states, brushing he hair away from his eyes. Oikawa keeps the eye contact with her. He knows that he should prepare for a long speech now.
"You work just as hard as Kageyama, perhaps even more. You've made your team trust you and respect you as quickly as possible, they rely on their captain. They rely on you, Tooru. Not Kageyama, you." She looks over to her desk chair, seeing her tie laying on the back of it. "I know for sure that Seijoh wouldn't be the same without you." She whispers, feeling Oikawa's cries coming back. His body shakes as she rubs his shoulder.
"We both know that Iwa-chan needs your incredible sets to be an amazing ace. Kindaichi looks to you for support when he faces touch challenges as a First Year. Your team already believes that you are incredible." Oikawa takes it in, running his thumb up and down her back.
Y/N says, "And I know you pride yourself in your serves and sets. Not to mention your leadership." The room's darkness has settled in on Oikawa's eyes and he looks at her. Y/N is beginning to tear up too. She blinks a few times to push out the brimming drops.
It's always been like that. Whenever one would cry, the other would too. No matter what.
Like on the staircase. Oikawa was running on and on about how difficult it is to become as good as Kageyama. At one point, he yelled that he wasn't good enough to play. Y/N immediately tackled him in a hug, heart broken at the words he spoke. Her eyes stung from how harsh Oikawa treated himself.
Y/N gulps, eyes falling on the collar of his shirt. She runs her fingers down the lining. "You think those fans like you because you're not as good as Kageyama? No, they like you because you are the best in their eyes. And in mine too."
Her hand stops above his heart, which was beating faster under her touch. Oikawa nuzzles his nose and chin into her hair, Y/N's head under his. She hums, "I love you for everything you are and you are not." He kisses her head, sighing out. He doesn't understand this girl sometimes.
Y/N went on, "You are not an egotistical jerk, a rip off, a superior complex. You're not just another hot boy celebrity that lets the fame get to his head." She smiled at herself before wiping away some droplets. "You are a star setter, an amazing captain, a loving person. You always make sure I am safe and that the friends around you know that you are rooting for them."
She pulls her head away, meeting eyes with Oikawa. His ones were red and puffy, dried up tear streaks on his skin. "You are great. If Kageyama thinks that you won't be catching up anytime soon, he is dead wrong. Because I know my Tooru, and he is going to be training hard to become Japan's Best Setter, right?" Oikawa chuckles a bit, nodding his head along with her.
She kisses his forehead, hugging him closer to her. "I love you, Tooru. My Handsome Seijoh Setter, you are just as incredible in my mind. To me, you are the Champion of Volleyball." She tells him, Oikawa staring at their linked hands. He seemed to be frowning again. Y/N furrowed her brows. She brings their hands up closer.
Pinching his cheek softly, she says, "I don't care how much you want to deny it, you are the best. No one can beat my Pretty Boy, so please smile!"
Oikawa grins again, bringing his free hand around her back and drawing her closer to him. He brings his lips down and gives her a sweet kiss. She closes her eyes, relaxing as she finally lets Oikawa be calm again. She loved the feeling of his lips against hers, even more when it's been a long day and the two of tbem seemed touch-starved.
"I will, Beautiful. Thank you so much for this, I... I can't believe you'd do so much for me." Oikawa says after pulling away. Y/N lets go of his cheek, letting her arm drape around his neck again. She hums back, "Of course, I can't let my Handsome Prince frown all the time."
His girlfriend draws hearts on the skin beside his mouth. "I want to see your pretty face. Please don't spoil it with wrinkles."
"I won't." He chuckles a back, closing his eyes. Y/N tugs the blanket closer to their bodies, letting out a noise of content. The warmness of his body reflected onto her. She kissed his jaw.
"Goodnight, Beautiful."
"Goodnight, Pretty Boy."

Oikawa x Reader | Training Camp
Tumblr media
Warnings: fem!reader, light cursing, Karasuno nonsense, Tanaka
Part 1 (optional)    Part 3 (optional)
Training camp. Our team had been invited to the one in Tokyo while we were practicing, and everyone seemed super hyped. Honestly, I was too. This would be my first time in a huge city, first time in a capital too. If it was going to be anything like the last one, I’d have to sleep in the same room as the rest of the team. All well and fine, I’ll just have to be sure not to kick Asahi in the head again… or anyone else for that matter.
After practice, the team gathered around and listened to Takeda inform all of us that we’d have to pass our exams in order to participate in the training camp. Well, I’ve got that in the bag. No problem. I’m gonna get that Tokyo camping experience for sure! Oh, Hinata looks like he’s about to cry. Eh, Kageyama actually started crying. And I’m sure they’ll be fine. I’m going to get a slushy to celebrate.
A couple days passed and here I was! On the bus! On our way to Tokyo! Nerves hate me. It was all I could do to just stare at the blurry scenery out the window.
“Hey Y/N! How you feelin’? ‘Cause it looks like you’re about to puke.” Nishinoya draped his arms over the back of the seat in front of me, turned around to smile lopsidedly at my anxious expression.
“Oh god, please not on me! I wore my good pants this time!” Tanaka screeched from beside the libero.
“I’m not going to puke!” I pushed Noya’s face back to where he came from. “Not until I’m sure you won’t be able to run, anyway.”
“Ah! Tanaka! Hide our spare pants!” Noya panicked.
“Three steps ahead of you, man!” Tanaka revealed their suitcases safely tucked in a non-puke zone. Noya sighed out in relief. Guess the men really love their slacks.
“Stop yelling back there! I have to deal with you guys at the training camp, I do NOT want to listen to you freaking out about pants this soon!” Coach Ukai lovingly scolded us. We all yelled back an affirmative to further annoy Coach, because you know, we like running five extra laps every practice. Ukai just groaned and told us to shut up again. Shut up we did! We all went to our own devices the rest of the bus ride.
We all filed out of the parked bus, relishing in that unfresh city air. Pretty immediately, I saw people from other teams. Speaking of other teams, one of Nekoma’s called out to us.
“Missing some people, aren’t you?” I’m guessing he was talking about Hinata and Kageyama.
“Hah, yeah about that. They’ll be here later! Schoolwork and all.” Sugawara informed. Kuroo flashed a thumbs-up along with a teasing smirk.
“I gotcha.” And with that, we hustled into the practicing gym. There were four other teams already slapping down the ball. I recognized Nekoma pretty instantly. Kuroo and Mr. Pudding were laser-focused. The other teams I had to look at their scoreboards for. Shinzen, Fukurodani, and Ubugawa. Everyone was super tall too. Well, this must be the day. The day that I have my head taken off by a volleyball. I’m so ready.
Practice was still going strong even a few hours later. I decided to break off from my team to get some water. Hobbled over my water bottle and watching the others, I clicked on my phone to check any missed notifications. The top notification showed a message from Toru Oikawa himself. We had become a lot closer these past few months. Ever since he had first taunted me before our first match against each other.
“What’s up?” It was a simple text that Oikawa had sent me many, many times. It sounds weird, but these texts always lead to better conversations than when he’d send a regular “hey.” While I was debating on how to answer him, smiling absentmindedly, a shout from across the court carried over to me.
“HHEEEEEEYYYYYYY Y/N! YOU COMING BACK IN OR ARE YOU JUST GONNA KEEP TEXTING YOUR BOO-THANG?” Tanaka began making kissing faces. Man did not even know that I was talking to Toru, he was just trying to embarrass the fire out of me I guess… and it was working. I swiftly pulled up the camera on my phone, zoomed all the way in, and snapped a picture of Tanaka still going ham with the kissing faces. Aaaaaaand sending that to Toru.
“Practicing in Tokyo, can’t talk.” As soon as it was sent, I sprang up and ran over to my team, the other teams whooping and hollering about my so-called boo-thang. So naturally, I smacked Tanaka on the back of his shaved head and told him to stop sucking face with the air.
“Who were you getting all smiley about over there?” Sugawara innocently asked. I knew better. He had that devilish gleam in his eyes.
“I was looking at pictures of volleyballs.” I flashed a blinding grin at the setter and got into position so we could start playing again. I was not about to let them know I sent Oikawa a picture of Tanaka’s dopey kissy face. And so practice picked back up again. My break helped get my head back in the game.
A good four hours later, practice let up and it was time to wash my sweaty head off. I packed up my things and shuffled to the dressing rooms. By the time I got there, the room was filled with steam, probably from the showers running, so I decided to take my sweet time packing my things into my locker. The hot water hogs were gonna take it all so I waited for them to finish. I have to have a hot shower. You ever try to wash sweat off in cold water? Yeah, I’d rather sleep with a jaguar. Luckily, most of the boys were quick about it. Tanaka was first out because he had no hair to wash; after he was out, the rest of the boys swept out shortly after.
“You still haven’t gone in, Y/N?” Asahi asked me. I shook my head before looking back at the giant.
“I was waiting for you guys to come out.”
“How come?”
“You guys eat the hot water up. Plus four other teams are showering at the same time. I don’t wanna deep-freeze myself.” Asahi looked a tad embarrassed at this.
“Hah, I didn’t think about that. We got out when the water started to go cold. Sorry about that.” I waved him off.
“Don’t worry about it. I can wait, don’t worry.”
“Ok…don’t wait too long, please. I’ll feel terrible if you’re waiting for an hour.” I smiled at the gentle man.
“I’ll come straight to you afterwards. Wouldn’t want you having a crisis.” Asahi sighed and moved to get dressed so he could leave. I looked back to my phone to give him privacy.
A good 20 minutes went by before I finally got to bathe, and good lord it felt great. Sweat no more, I got changed into my pajamas and spared a glance at my phone. A text from Oikawa, 6 minutes ago, an attachment text. I opened it up while walking towards Karasuno’s room to let Asahi know I survived the shower, but when I saw the picture that Oikawa sent, I changed directions pretty much immediately. The picture showed Toru’s grinning face, a cocky glint in his eyes as he stood in front of the very building I was in. I reached the front doors in an instant and pushed them open. I looked around before confirming the picture. Toru was leaning against the wall next to the doors.
“Took you long enough. I thought I was going to have to break in.” Oikawa swooshed over to me as if there was nothing wrong with this picture.
“H-Hold on. Why…are you here?”
“You weren’t able to text me. I got bored!” Toru jutted his bottom lip out in the biggest fake pout he’s ever mustered.
“Bored!? So you drove almost four hours just to hang out with someone?!”
“No, don’t be ridiculous. I took the train.” Toru sidestepped me and moved past me, seemingly to waltz into the building.
“Wai- Toru! You can’t just walk in there!”
“Why not?”
“Why no-? Because everyone is gonna ask why you’re here!”
“Ahhhh I see.” Oikawa let go of the handles of the building. “You still haven’t told them you’re a girl, hm?”
“Well, no, but that’s not why you can’t just go in there!”
“Afraid of letting them know you collude with the enemy?” Toru really seemed to be enjoying himself as I stuttered over my words, trying to figure out why he’s downplaying traveling halfway across the country just to hang out with me. I give up.
“Oh just go in already.”
“Gladly.” Toru smirked at his small victory. “Come on Y/N-Chan~” Toru grabbed my hand to drag me in behind him.
While Toru dragged me along the big room, I realized he had no idea where to go. Speaking of, how the hell did he find where I was?
“Uh, Toru. Where are we going?”
“Shh you’ll ruin the surprise!”
“You have no idea, do you?” Mr. Great King just smiled over his shoulder at me, eyes closed. He’s going to shove us into a storage closet. His pride would not let him fix a mistake like that. “Then can you please tell me how you found me here?”
“Of course!” Toru opened up a door, confidently looking inside. “I hope you like mops.” He tugged me inside, flipping on the light before closing us inside.
“Toru wha-!”
“I brought you a sandwich~” Toru silenced me with a delicious-looking sandwich. Like, that thing looked like heaven after a long practice.
“Okay, like, you’re amazing, but how the hell did you find me?” We both sunk into the ground to eat.
“Would you believe me if I said it was a fluke?”
“Hell no.”
“Right.” Oikawa put a lot of thought into his next words, even putting his hand to his chin, pretending to stroke the beard he did not have. “Yeah, I asked around.”
“Oooh so pretty boy setter is a stalker!”
“S-Stalker?!” To express his surprise, he took a bite out of his sandwich. “Would a stalker buy you a sandwich?” I opened my mouth, ready to reply “Yes, they would,” but seeing those puppy dog eyes across from me, I couldn’t resist.
“...Nah, you’re right. I’ve never met a stalker that bought a sandwich. Ever.” Toru perked up at that, puppy eyes gone and replaced with overwhelming pride.
“By the way, where is everyone else? I know volleyball players. There’s no way they all retired.” Toru gently pondered.
“They all moved to different gyms in smaller groups.”
“Are you going to keep training?” I picked up on his tone instantly. It was practically urging me to keep practicing.
“Hmm, I dunno. Now that you’re here-”
“Practice with me!” Toru smiled excitedly, leaning forward on his knees. He had finished his sandwich, so he was even more ready to play. A thought just hit me though.
“.....Why are we in a broom closet?”
“We can leave the closet.” I moved to stand up. “Only if we can practice, though~” To prove his point, he grabbed my wrist and tugged me back down, trapping me in place with his legs.
“This is clear manipulation! I will not stand for this!” I attempted to break from his hold… only to have Oikawa drape his arms over my shoulders to further trap me in. “...You know maybe this closet isn’t so bad.” A dramatic gasp sounded from behind me. A weight on my right shoulder followed soon after. I peered at the pouting boy with humor in my eyes. Might as well make sure I’m not the only one being teased. Two can play that game Toru~ However, I failed to account for Toru being used to charming people. He decided to really milk his abilities. He nuzzled his nose into my jaw, and to say I almost died is an understatement. Nothing gets between this man and volleyball.
“So about that practice session?” I wasn’t looking at him, but I could feel his smirk, his teasing and confident air radiating off him in waves.
“Yeah, alright. Let’s go practice- wait, I just showered.” Oikawa sprang to a standing position, taking me with him.
“Then take another one!” My mind went right back to Asahi. Poor guy was probably rethinking his entire shower process. Toru was pushing the closet door open and ushering me out. I grabbed the sandwich wrappers and went to throw them out while Toru practically threw himself on a rack of volleyballs. “Heads up!” I heard a resounding smack. He really just tried to surprise attack me huh? I turned around as quickly as I could and just barely managed to parry the ball back to the smiley dork.
“I could’ve died, you know.”
“I’ve seen you play, sweetheart. You were fine! Plus, I wouldn’t have let you get hit.” Toru sent a wink over with that.
“My hero.” I rolled my eyes in good humor before jogging over to do even more practice. My muscles are gonna be cursing me out in five different languages tomorrow.
Another practice went by. It was really late by this point and Oikawa really seemed to get comfortable with teasing me the entire time we practiced. While I was downing water by the wall, waiting for Oikawa to finish putting the equipment away, I checked the time and felt myself pale. The clock read 1:21 in the morning.
“What are you so scared of?” Toru sidled up beside me, leaning over to look at my phone.
“You, uh, missed the train.”
“Oooh you have to harbor a fugitive for the night now.” Toru didn’t seem the least bit worried as he poked my cheek. I lifted my arm to grab his poker.
“Where are you going to sleep?” Toru stared at me for a minute, gears turning.
“...I’ll sleep in the broom closet if you do.”
“...Get a hotel room, Toru.” Said man let out a dramatic sigh.
“You’re no fun, Y/N-Chan.” The familiar feeling of an arm on top of my head weighed me down.
“Sleeping in a closet is fun for you, Kawa?” I saccharined to make Toru feel stupid.
“The most fun I’ve ever had.” Too bad feeling stupid isn’t in the Toru dictionary.
“Great! Then ask the hotel staff to book you a linen closet.” I beamed at Toru’s slightly annoyed expression. I began walking back toward the showers yet again. “You should shower too, Toru! You’re really sweaty!” I called back over my shoulder.
Second shower of the day! My skin is gonna be super dry and I’m going to blame it all on Toru. I walked out, dressed in my spare pair of pajamas since I forgot to change out of them. Oh no- What is Toru gonna change into? My question was answered as soon as I came back into the main gym area. There stood Toru Oikawa in his jersey.
“You brought your jersey?” I saw Toru jump slightly before playing it off by turning around all suave-like.
“I never leave the house without it.” Well that was a lie. He took me out for ice cream once, spilled an entire cone on himself, and there was not a jersey in sight.
“Right, right. Why didn’t you change into it, then?”
“I, uh…got excited. Forgot I had it.” The look of pure embarrassment on his face gave me life. I opened my mouth to respond, but all that came out was a sharp giggle.
“Y/N-Chan, stooooop.” Oikawa had closed the distance between us and wrapped his arms around my laughing form. He’s done this once before, but it was enough for me to learn that by “stop,” he meant “laugh more.” I tried to pull out of his grasp, but his grip was tighter than a steel deadbolt. With his fingers locked in place and his chin digging into my head, he began his assault. Giggles turned into squeals and Toru’s fake pouts melted into sadistic chuckles. This bastard. He only stopped moving his fingers like I was piano once I was laying on the ground. “Look at you Y/N-Chan. Tsk tsk. Surely a closet is better than the dirty floor.”
Oh this little- While still on the floor, I reached out and grappled onto Toru’s legs, tugging them towards myself. Toru’s cocky look disappeared and was replaced with panic as he waved his arms around so as to not fall and break his neck. He figured it out since he fell right next to me without so much as a bruise. “What if you had to call an ambulance?” Oikawa’s exasperated face made me laugh all over again. “Y/N-Chan!” I sat up and turned to face the pouting setter, the pout was semi-real this time.
“You still can’t sleep here. Don’t you think the guys will be curious as to why I found a stray Oikawa?” Toru gave that a hard thought.
“No.”
“Alright, well, give me the actual answer now.”
“Why tell them anything? Let them wonder!” I kept staring at Toru. He’s insane. It’s official. “Don’t look at me like that!”
“You really think they’ll just let you walk in randomly and sleep on their futons?”
“Mmmhm!” Toru nodded to further his point. A silence settled upon us as I stared at the boy, his innocent, smiling face staring back.
“Toru?”
“Hm?”
“You really want to sleep in the same room that bad?”
“Mhm!”
“Alriiiight. Let’s go and confuse my team.” Oikawa jumped up in half a second, dragging me along behind him for the second time that night. I gave him the directions to our team’s room and before long, we landed outside the door. We stood just outside. “Hey Toru.” I quietly got his attention. He turned his head to me. “Uh, I’m glad you came here. I actually had fun.” The smile that graced his lips was a heart-melting one, filled with happiness.
“I’m glad I rode on a cramped tube for four hours to get here too.”
“Way to make me feel ba-” I was cut off with a gentle pressure on my lips. Was- Oh- OH- My thoughts gathered quickly and I returned the short kiss. Alright, that’s gonna make it a little harder for me to explain properly.
Bonus: Toru slid the door to the team’s room open, leaving all of us in surprise. My face was still burning, the rest of the team were all very asleep. Well, not so much anymore.
“AH WHO IS IT?!” I heard a loud scream. Hinata sounded like.
“WHO DO I NEED TO BASEBALL BAT?” I faintly saw Tanaka jump to the middle of the room, baseball bat in hand.
“PUT THE BAT AWAY NISHINOYA!”
“Wha- ME?!”
“Oh, sorry about that. I just had a dream that you tried to smash my mailbox.” Sounded like Suga…what kind of dreams does he have of us-
“That just gives me more questions!” Noya shouted back. Glad he said so. The light in the room suddenly turned on, leading to more screams or groans of being blinded.
“Y/N, why are you coming in here with Oikawa at 2 AM?” Daichi asked calmly.
“I, uh, well, you see- He, uh- I found him wandering the streets.” The team continued to stare. Totally inconspicuous.
“That’s fair.” Kageyama muttered before rolling over to go back to sleep.
“I wander the streets too.” Tsuki added.
“You do?” Yamaguchi asked.
“No.” With that, the blonde turned over to go back to sleep. Daichi sighed.
“Alright he can stay here tonight, I guess. Just make sure he leaves tomorrow.”
“Oh, he will. Right, Oikawa?” Said boy nodded.
“You won’t even know I was here.”
“Too late for that.”

Talent [Oikawa Tooru ]
Word count:  3, 302 words
warnings: none i think
genre: fluff i think but oikawa shows up in the latter half
a/n: idk what else to say i’ve had this in my drafts for a while i can’t remember what i wrote nor will i reread
You hated sports, even when you were young, it was a dread that you had to run a mile for p.e. or even doing anything that requires you to go outside. And it didn't help that you had to play volleyball that day, that one dreaded day back when you were in middle school.
Your teacher thought it would be great fun for your class to play an 'exciting' sport so volleyball came to be, it was actually the first time you would be playing it, you had been complaining about it to your friend, Mira for the whole week.
"You know I really really really really hate sports right?" You whined to her the fifth time that period, repeating those very same words every few minutes like clockwork and she was starting to get annoyed.
"Oh just suck it up already, all you have to do it just hit the ball and maybe receive it once or twice. How is that any hard?" After being fed up your whines, she finally said out loud. You were taken aback for a second but eventually you gave in and grunted, slumping back down on your seat as quietly accepted your fate. It didn't felt fair thought, coming from her as Mira was actually one of the most athletic person you know and was part of the schools volleyball team.
Wanting to continue your conversation with her, you thought of the most generic question one could ask, "hey, what talent did you get from your soulmate?" You looked up at her whilst placing your hands on you jaws and elbows on the table. She looked at you for a second and with her eyebrows scrunched up said, "Didn't you already ask that there first time we met?"
"I did?" She nodded. Good lord did your memory not serve you justice. She then continued on, "they're good at playing the piano."
"How'd you find that out?" You asked, to which she flicked your forehead with her fingers and chuckled, "what is this an interview? Never mind me, I don't even know what's yours!"
When she took her fingers off your forehead you pouted and sighed. "I don't even know myself, maybe I'll never find a soulmate,,, maybe they're just talentless" the two of you stared longingly at each other and started chuckling, yet deep down you feared you might be right.
When the laughter between the two of you died down, she turned to you and promptly said "you do remember that we have p.e. next period, right?"
And then you froze, oh god. You've already been complaining about it for a whole week. A weeks worth of complaints about how much you dreaded this very day yet you somehow managed to forget toDAY WAS THE DAY.  You stared at her blankly and felt like the biggest dumbass of all time. Mira saw your expression and laughed, patting you on the back. The bell rang right as she lifted her hand away and motioned you to get up and change to your gym attire.
Oh.God. You really hated this.
First, you forgot that you had gym today so you didn't have time to think up a masterful plan to escape. Then, you realised the thing your class was going to do today was volleyball. Good lord, you hated volleyball. Why so? Because you always had this odd fear of breaking your arms with them, you once had a ball hit your back while walking back home from the park, and it was not fun at all. You felt like your back was breaking, your spine in half, you felt like the impact had pushed you off balance. But Mira who was walking with you told you that you had just stumbled and your description of that experience was such an exaggeration, but you did end up with light bruising for a week. That was enough proof to you that volleyball should be considered an extreme sport.
After trying to waste your time by slowly changing your clothes to avoid going to the gym, you were dragged by an irritated Mira whilst your pants were still halfway up your legs. You were fumbling with your pants the whole trip to the gym, all the while complaining about the dread of p.e. class, the fact that you had been practically dragged out and the fact that you physically do not think you could do this.
Once everyone was in the gym, your teacher had everyone do some basic warm ups to prevent yourselves from causing any unnecessary strains towards your bodies. Warm ups might not seem so bad until you realised that this particular time, your teacher made everyone run two rounds in the gym — did you mention you hated running? You hated running. After an excruciating torture of running and then stretching, came the actual sport. you couldn't believe this, the warm ups to you already felt like the entire exercise was done, wrapped up, you felt like you've went to the gym and tried out all of its equipments.
You really wanted to sit it out but when the teacher was counting the number of students there were, it was just enough to split into a team of two, each consisting six players, the amount needed for a team according to Mira. You were standing near the line of the court and somewhat near your teacher, you thought that maybe if you were standing there, you would be fine seeing as you're not anywhere near the actual game. A light tap on your shoulders made you turn your head to your right and you saw your teachers hand holding up a volleyball stretched out towards you. You made eye contact with her for a solid ten seconds, dumbfounded until she finally spoke, "(y/n), take the ball, you're supposed to serve,"
Taking the ball with confusion, you wondered what in the world a serve was, was it giving it to someone in your team? Does it have anything to do with waitering? Mira, who was next to you, saw your dilemma and inched closer towards you and whispered, "you're supposed to go to the back, outside of the court and throw the ball up and then hit it to over the net".
You blinked at her and nodded slowly, stepping back outside of the court and behind her, you threw the ball up in the air, and then something came over you.
What came next felt odd, you couldnt really describe the sensation, it was like you were suddenly possessed, a switch in your system that suddenly got turned on,  you took a step back and ran up while the ball was still midair, when it started falling down, you hit the ball hard, the sound from the contact with your hand and the ball was loud, making you wide eyed when you realised what had happened. The next thing you knew, the ball you hit was sent flying towards the other side of the court, almost at the very edge but not quite and no one was there to receive it. The sound of it hitting the ground was a scary one, a very loud thud which ended with the ball bouncing up really high and slowly slowed down after a few bounces and a roll.
Everyone —yourself included— stood frozen in their spot, then slowly turn to stare at you, completely surprised and taken aback; you, yourself looked down on your hands to see if any of your bones were broken as the hit felt like it would break someone's bones. Even though it stung like hell, you were pretty sure nothing broke whereas it was very very red. There was a slow clap coming from Mira when you finally looked up, you gave her a wry smile and turned your attention towards your teacher, expecting something from her. She stared at you for a second before gesturing one of your classmates to take the ball back to her. When the ball was in her hands, she passed it back to you and told you to serve one more time but not before asking if you were in the girls volleyball team.
"Uh,, no, ma'am. I'm not,," you replied awkwardly, catching the ball she threw at you.
Mira turned to you and said "(y/n)! And you said you hated volleyball," while you were walking to the back of the court as she continued ," we have got to have a talk about this later." You gave a confused nod and went back to your position to serve the ball.
You looked to your side, making eye contact with Mira and whispered, "I... think it could be my soulmates talent,," she gave you a "we'll talk about this later" look and proceeded to face front while you then followed suit.
The teacher made everyone try out every volleyball position each round and when it came to your turn to set, not only did your classmates but you also found out that you were surprisingly incredibly good at that. Mira, whos position that round was the same as the one she played on the school team which was the winged spiker told you that your sets were accurate and it felt as you quoted "comfortable and right where I wanted it to be" or in other words perfect. You made the conclusion that this was definitely your soulmates talent as his kind of skill definitely wasn't from you.
And that was the day you were dragged into the girls volleyball team, as the starter setter.
——
And as for Oikawa,, while he really liked the concept of soulmates he just didn’t understand why it had to be like this, wouldn’t it be easier for the whole system to just tell you who they were and not leave out small hints and clues like talents? What if they didn’t try out something new or different? Then wouldn’t they never be able to find out what their soulmates talent was? And what if they had the same talent? It was simply too mind boggling for him.
With a sigh escaping his lips, he stared onto the ball he held up wondering if he’d ever find them. Whoever they were, he knew he’d cherish them. Finding out his soulmates talent turned out to be pretty easy for him as all he had to do was attend art classes that were mandatory back in middle school.
The whole fiasco went about something like this:
One day during art art class the teacher told them to draw their best friends portrait with oil pastels, normally she’d just go on and on about explaining art mediums with the textbook but that day was different for once. Everyone was pretty much shocked to say the least, Oikawa on the other hand doubted that he could even draw Iwa-chan the way he wanted to. The first thing he did when he grabbed the pencil was to sketch, much like everyone else but only this time, the sketch came out surprisingly well for a middle schooler. When the teacher passed by and caught a glimpse of it, she showed a delighted face and praised Oikawa.
Iwaizumi who was sitting next to Oikawa stared at his sketch and whispered, “i didn’t know you could draw,”
“Me neither”
There was a moment of silence before the two of them realised what was happening, Oikawas eyes widened in disbelief, a smile making its way onto his lips and Iwaizumi was frozen in his seat.
Huh, so this was your talent. He liked it, and he liked it very much.
“Iwa-Chan you know what this means !” He said out in a cheery voice. “Is that a question or a statement?” Iwaizumi retorted. Oikawa leaned on him and stretched out his arms to hug Iwaizumi, “yES!”
He was then smacked by Iwaizumi for being so dramatic. (Why does this sound so much like an iwaoi fic h. I’m so sorry I think i lost the ability to: write)
That was how Oikawa discovered your talent and whenever he got bored and doodled something he would always be reminded of how great of an artist you are and would be. He hoped that he’d meet you someday.
And that someday would be soon unbeknownst to either of you.
——
Much to your demise, even after you graduated middle school, you still somehow found yourself being dragged into the girls volleyball team. Maybe it was because Mira was by your side the whole time but it volleyball gradually felt bearable to you, and you could almost say it was fun.
It was just like any other day during practice but this time, none of your teammates were actually doing such. Instead you found yourself and the other first years only doing the actual warmers beforehand. And when you consulted about it to Mira during your break, her, being your amazing yet somewhat loud mouthed friend decided to straight up ask your captain why none of them seemed too focused on what they should be doing. Your question was answered with a simple, "Oikawa-san promised that he would be coming in to see us practice today,"
Was that name supposed to ring a bell within you? You weren't sure but you were sure that you weren't the only one not understanding what was happening. You suddenly piped in on the conversation and asked who this Oikawa was and why was he so important, which you were then bombarded with a bunch of praise about how good looking he was and how great of a volleyball player he was.
Amidst your conversation with your captain, Oikawa came into the gym, greeting all the girls he knew and introducing himself to the ones he didn't (ie the first years) your captain whipped her head around with stars in her eyes and started skipping towards Oikawa, greeting him and also fawning over him, asking about his day and other trivial questions which Oikawa answered back politely.
Staring at this guy that all your seniors were gushing over and your fellow first years were shyly blushing over made you realise why they'd act like this. They weren't wrong, he was undeniably attractive if you do say so yourself and he seemed like quite the nice guy, whoever his soulmate was, was definitely a lucky girl.
When it was finally time for practice, everyone did their usual thing and after a while, your captain decided to do a match between each other. You were placed in the team with your captain and Mira which to you was quite convenient. By the time it was your turn to serve, your team already had quite the lead, you wanted to lay it off easy and serve a quick and easy one but your captain pressured you to "go all out" and "help her impress Oikawa since you were teammates" and being the amazing and nice (lmao) person you were, you begrudgingly did so.
The serve you made never failed to woo (is that how you spell I can't remember omfg I'm so sorry) everyone around you. Oikawa who had been watching the entire match fell silent and wide eye. The serve seemed oddly familiar to him and so did you.
Your team had scored yet another point from your service ace when a sudden loud burst from the gym doors emerged. The match was momentarily halted from the distraction and everyone stared at the doors anticipating someone to barge in. And barge in they did, you whipped your head and saw a buff tanned spiky haired guy who was irritated by something, you scrunched your brow trying to figure out who he was but concluded that you really didn't know anyone beside from your teammates and classmates.
"I...IWA-CHAN!!" You heard Oikawa squeal out. You figured his name was probably that but that still didn't make you less confused.
"Shittykawa- hOW MANY TIMES DID I HAVE TO TELL YOU TO NOT SNEAK AWAY FROM PRACTICE AND LEAVING A DRAWING OF SOME CHIBI VERSION OF YOURSELF WITH A NOTE IN MY BAG AS A WAY OF INFORMING US?" Iwa-chan scolded. Oikawa seemed to pout from that statement.
"But I did tell you- and at least it was cute !! Iwa-chan pleaseee, the girls kindly invited me to see their practice match— how can I not?"
He doodled? That was unexpected from you.
Iwa-chan sighed and went over to drag Oikawa back to practice when he glanced over one of the bags that were left on the side and saw a somewhat familiar drawing next to them. Dragging Oikawa with him, they went over to observe a painting you made for your art class.
Oikawa looked over and nonchalantly said "hey it kinda looks like what I'd draw," you whipped your head at the statement. Your mind immediately went 'aHA what?' Mira who was by your side too had the same look on her face yet the two of you remained silent. "You mean what your soulmate can draw?"
Oikawa nodded happily, proud of the fact that his soulmate was artistic. Oikawa leaned in on Iwaizumi and whispered, "hey uh speaking of soulmate and talent the girl over there with the (h/c) hair seemed to have some killer serve. And not to brag but it kinda looks like my style"
Iwaizumi was taken aback by this statement, turning his heard around and saw you and Mira staring back at them and replied in disbelief when he turned back, " are you sure?" Oikawa nodded.
With a silent nod of agreement between the two they grabbed your painting and went over to where you were, Oikawa was the one holding onto it while Iwaizumi stood beside. When they finally reached you, Oikawa pointed to your painting he was holding up and cleared his throat asking, "this... you... made this, right?"
You nodded in confusion, how'd he know it was you though. You were about to inquire when realisation hit you,, he wasn't called a talented setter for nothing, and the doodles and- and then it hit you. With a soundless agreement the two of you realised what this meant and what was happening. You still had to double check yourself so you asked how he knew it was you and when he said the play style you had was eerily similar to his everything fell right into place.
Damn. Your his soulmate. The lucky person you were talking about was... you.
"You're my soulmate?" You rhetorically asked as if you were trying to convince yourself this was just some odd dream.
Iwaizumi chimed in and complained about how much Oikawa flaunts his soulmates talent by drawing and painting every time he gets to try to get rid of this odd and semi tense atmosphere.
You stared at Oikawa then to Mira and laughed softly in disbelief, this was such an odd way to find ones soulmate. As if reading your mind, Mira started giggling, making everyone else feel confused and awkward. You looked back up to your soulmate and finally said, "hi, I'm (l/n) (y/n) nice to meet you,"
"Oikawa Tooru" he replied chuckling slightly.
Mira piped in and said, "wow way to find out your soulmate in the middle of a match,, you two didn't even know one another's name come on! Do this later or set a date or something we still have a match! Come one (y/n)!"
This was queue that Oikawa and Iwaizumi had to leave and you to resume your practice match but before he left Oikawa handed you his phone number and said "come meet me after practice." With a wink that made everyone in the gym swoon over.
