1 Year Earlier
After that night, Paige and I talked at the pizza place. It had been as if we’d immediately become a more significant part of each other’s lives. We did everything together, and from that point on, it had been rare for me to miss a Hopkins game day.
Today was no different from the usual routine we’d adapted. It was a Friday night, and Paige had a late practice, so I’d made my way to her house to wait in her room for her. Coming over despite Paige not being there herself had been Paige’s idea. She still wanted me to come over but didn't want me to have to drive so late at night. She said her dad wouldn’t mind, but that didn’t make him any less confused when I’d shown up on his doorstep for the first time, and he told me Paige was at practice. I informed him I knew that and that his daughter said I could come over and wait for her to get back. Nonetheless, the man let me in, still confused, but he didn’t doubt it was something his daughter would do.
I sat on her bed waiting, typing away on my computer in an attempt to add something to my English essay that was due Sunday night before Paige came back. Despite Paige claiming it would be time to “lock in” on schoolwork, I knew nothing would get done tonight. She, in fact, never locked in. She just put on music and took a nap.
Like usual, Paige barged into the room with her two backpacks slugged over her shoulders. She threw them on the floor and immediately crashed into the bed, wrapping her arm around her pillow. “Hey P,” I muttered, still typing my essay, “how was practice?” I ask. She mumbled a “good” response before turning around in the bed and pulling me down with her. She wrapped her arms around my waist and cuddled me, resting her head on my shoulder. She had always been the kind of friend that was touchy, but this was different than usual. I just figured practice had tired her out completely. Maybe they had to run laps or something. I closed my computer and set it on the floor before laying in her arms, not saying a word. We’d both fallen asleep like that and a few hours later, we’d woken up.
Paige yawned and checked her phone. The time read 2:30 AM, and I rested my head on the blonde’s chest. That’s when she looked at me. I looked back, and I felt this tight feeling in my chest. I’d always noticed it happen when it came to Paige’s gaze. She had this ability to make whoever she was with or talking to the main thing her eyes were set on. We’d stayed looking at each other for what felt like forever until she leaned in, kissing me softly.
That soft kiss had escalated, and as soon as I knew it, the tall blonde was on top of me, kissing me harder than before. Paige then made her way down my body, planting light kisses. Before she had made it between my legs, her blue eyes looked at me with that same gaze again, more intense and clouded than before. “Is this ok?” the blonde whispered, her voice as raspy as it always was after waking up from a nap.
I just nodded in response, and she continued to trail kisses on my thighs, inside and out, before sliding my shorts and baby pink undies off. She looked up at me again, same as before, begging for my approval again, and once she got it, her tongue started to slowly lick at my folds, her middle finger sliding in and accompanying her tongue’s movements. Before I knew it, I was covering my face with a pillow to stay quiet and not wake up Paige’s parents or brothers.
Current Day
Seeing Paige again had brought back every negative and positive emotion I’d ever felt or had about the girl. I thought I’d done so well to forget about her until it came to having to see her again. I cursed myself for not playing it normal and acting unbothered when I saw her. You prepare yourself mentally for so many situations, telling yourself that you’d do one thing or another just for the time to come and nothing will go as planned. As I stood there, quickly texting Alexa that we needed to go, I felt a hand on my shoulder. Once again, I whipped my head around to be met with a tall, blue-eyed blonde. The same one I gave my everything to.
Almost on reflex, I shrugged her off. “Look, I’m so sorry,” Paige started. I rolled my eyes in response and continued walking in some random direction. “Please, hear me out,” pleaded the blonde as she grabbed my arm, pulling me towards her. I almost fell for it again. Her gaze made me feel like I was the only thing on her mind. Like the most important person in her world. I force myself to look away and pull back from her. “I’m not tryna hear shit of what you got to say right now, Paige.” The blonde groaned softly before stepping closer, “Just listen to me, please.”
“Nah, not today,” I mutter, forcing myself to look into her eyes again. She looked hurt, and I couldn’t help but want to take back what I said. Maybe even forget everything she did to me because the Paige I knew before would never hurt me like that. I almost opened my mouth to speak again before a taller girl pulled me away.
I guessed Alexa had finally found me, and she wasted no time dragging me away from the blonde. I wondered if maybe she’d been there longer than I thought and heard Paige’s pleas. Either way, I thanked her for getting me out of that situation. I just hoped I wouldn’t have to run into the blonde again. I knew that wouldn’t be the case though.

Invisible String
Although Spencer Reid and the Reader don’t find themselves in a romance with each other until well into their adulthood, their relationship has been decades in the making. Almost as if something as been pulling them together all these years.
Tumblr media
A/N: sorry for such a long wait but i’ve been struggling a lot mentally as of late. i hope you guys enjoy this one shot!! As always requests are open and heavily encouraged!! And of course this is inspired by the taylor swift song of the same name :)) Also keep in mind although the following scenes are heavily inspired by some scenes in Criminal Minds, elements of them have been slightly altered to fit in Y/N as a character.
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Reader
Type: a cute strangers to lovers fluff fic!
Word Count: 3.9K
Content Warnings: typical criminal minds case discussion, mentions of child trafficking when discussing this case, but no real detail. slight spoilers for season eight (beginning maeve stuff) and tiny spoilers for season fifteen (briefly mentions max but nothing really important to the plot at all)
“Time, curious time Gave me no compasses, gave me no signs Were there clues I didn't see?”
You had met Spencer Reid 3 times before you had really met him.
It was almost silly to think about it now. Now that you and Spencer have been dating for 3 years, it was strange to believe there were so many chances for you two to meet years earlier.
When you were sixteen years old, you got your first part time job. You worked at a self-serve frozen yogurt shop called Iced Dreams. You hated it so much. Your manager was a total creep, your older coworkers were rude and condescending to you, since you were one of the youngest people working there, but most of all you hated the uniforms.
Consisting of a very stupid looking hat, bright pink with randomly embrodiered teal patterns, an outdated bright teal shirt, it had been given to you from a dirty bin in the back, and judging by the sewn in shoulder pads, it had to be at least a couple decades old.
So one day, you didn’t wear the hat.
It wasn’t entirely purposeful. You couldn’t find it, you searched your room, you searched your car, so eventually you had to leave without it to prevent being late. Still, as you clocked it and passed the box of extras in the office something made you decide to leave it alone.
You were about 8 minutes into your shift when your manager approached you. “Y/N? Where’s your hat sweetheart?” You hated this man so much. You had gone to your parents time and time again, recounting his creepy behavior towards you and the other teenage girls who you worked with, but they refused to let you quit.
When you had started working there, he used to enforce this ridiculous rule that all the female workers had to wear skirts as part of their uniform, but you had gathered all the sixteen and seventeen year olds who worked there and all threatened to quit if he didn’t change the policy. So you were no stranger to breaking and defying the rules.
“Yeah I couldn’t find it, sorry.” you shrugged.
He chuckled and reached his hat out to touch your face. You jerked back, you almost wanted to refuse to wear one of the stupid extra hats just so that you could get fired.
“Well, Y/N its policy sweetie. No matter how special you are to me you still need to wear the hat. There’s extras in the office.”
“No way I’m wearing one of those. I bet they have like lice or something.”
He pursed his lips and sighed “Well I suppose that beautiful hair is just too pretty to wear a used hat huh. . . What do you suggest? If you’re working you have to wear it.”
You laughed, “Well you could let me go home.”
He paused, “Why don’t you go sit in the office, I’ll come talk to you in a minute.”
So you did, for about 10 minutes you sat in the office, surrounded by frozen yogurt flavor marking posters and boxes of old uniforms, and each passing minute you feared for the worst. Maybe you were actually getting fired? You really didn’t want to go that far, because, as much as you hated it, you really needed this job.
When your manager finally came to talk to you he held a small salted caramel frozen yogurt, your personal favorite flavor, and a twenty dollar bill. He handed them both to you.
“You seem so stressed Y/N, why don’t you take the day and go get lunch. My treat,” he said, smiling that weird twisted smile that always made your full body shiver.
However you were broke as hell, and no teenager in their right mind would ever pass up free food, so you took it, grabbed your keys and started to leave
Yet as soon as you walked out the back door you dropped your frozen yogurt, cup fully upside down, onto the pavement. You cursed, you hadn’t even taken a bite of it yet, and it looked like he had put coconut flakes on it, and you loved coconut. Still, you had your twenty bucks, and that was a pretty sweet pay out considering you were only clocked in for about 20 minutes.
So you got Chinese food, and spent what was supposed to be your shift in the shopping mall across town, completely and blissfully unaware of the fact the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI was dragging your manager away in handcuffs.
➽───────────────❥
Young Spencer Reid had only joined the FBI about a month ago. Despite being a genius, and providing crucial information to the solving of cases, he was aware of the most obvious. He was only twenty two years old, and he was scrawny as hell.
He felt this intense need to prove himself, especially to make Gideon proud.
So when they got a case about a the kidnapping and sex trafficking of teenage girls, he saw it as something he could really involve himself in. Based on the profile, it wasn’t going to be a large, strong, confident unsub who Morgan needed to tackle. This man would be ugly sure, but he would be a manipulative mastermind. Reid could work with that, he could prove himself.
He surprised everyone with his sheer work ethic and determination to find this man, and through consistently revising and delivering the profile soon enough they got a hit. A young woman in her early twenties called the tipline and reported her own manager. Insisting he fit the profile perfectly, and described how strangely he treated the minors who worked there, and how he almost exclusively hired young girls, treated them great and then switched as soon as they became legal.
So Garcia did her magically digging, and soon enough the FBI was tearing up a frozen yogurt shop, looking for any evidence of pedophilia. Garcia was even brought along, as she was pivotal to discovering any secret files in his computer.
At first, all they could find were strange compilation videos and under employees skirts. Spencer, and the rest of the team, were struggling to connect how he could get so many videos from an angle like this without anyone noticing or reporting him, until Gideon uncovered an old dusty pair of shoes, in which the right one held a small camera at the toe.
Although this was absolutely disgusting, it wasn’t enough to prove he was running the ring or kidnapping the girls, so Garcia kept digging. Meanwhile, Spencer tried to make himself useful by checking out the back of the store.
That’s where he found your clock-out receipt.
“Hey guys, we might want to take a look at this,” he shouted out.
Morgan grabbed the paper from his hand, “Ok, I don’t get it kid, it’s trash.”
Spencer pointed to the details on the slip, “Yeah but it says here she clocked out 18 minutes ago after only working for 23 minutes and 46 seconds. If this guy is our unsub, this girl could be in a lot of trouble.”
“Maybe she’s still here, has anyone checked out the parking lot yet?”
Spencer shook his head, and followed Morgan out the back door. There they discovered some almost completely melted salted caramel frozen yogurt.
Morgan bent down to investigate, “Yeah, we gotta get this to the lab, but I can tell you right now that there’s clearly more than just coconut topping this yogurt. It also means we have another victim.”
Spencer crouched down as well, “Not necessarily.”
“What do you mean kid? We’re missing a teenage girl and we’ve already found illegal evidence on this guy's computer. She’s in trouble.”
“Well judging the shape and inscription of these pills it appears to be some pretty strong rohypnol, almost certainly prescription grade. And ingesting it like this means she probably would have begun to feel its effects fairly early, I would predict 15 minutes. She clocked out 18 minutes ago, so even if she left exactly at that time she would have certainly crashed her car on the way home. The nearest residence is 8 minutes away from here, we’re in a complete shopping district. There’s only two cars out here and neither have a passed out driver, so I would bet she didn’t eat any of it. Also, the only spoon out here is still wrapped in plastic, “ Spencer analyzed.
Morgan sighed, “Well what do we even do then?”
Before Spencer could answer Hotch opened the back door. “We got him.”
Spencer turned to Morgan, “I’m sure her phone number is somewhere inside, I say we call her and make sure she’s ok. She probably doesn’t even know this is happening right now.”
So he did find your phone number, and although he initially pushed the phone to Morgan, he just chuckled and pushed it back.
“No way pretty boy. You’re the know-it-all with all that profiling out there, you can call her,” and before he could protest Morgan left, so Spencer was left to call you.
And strangely, for it being the first time he would ever interact with the love of his life, he thought nothing of it.
And that was the first time you had met Spencer Reid.
➽───────────────❥
The second time was years and years later, when you were waitressing night shifts to make extra money. You had never forgotten meeting Spencer Reid the first time, but this was the first time you would ever see his face.
You were slightly concerned when you got a call from a man, whose name you had now long forgotten, claiming he worked for the FBI. Although you weren’t incredibly surprised to hear your manager committed such heinous crimes against children, you were taken aback by how close you had come to becoming one of his victims.
But that was 9 years ago. In your college days it became a fun story you told at frat parties, but you were 25 now. Sometimes you would think about the incident when you couldn’t sleep, and if you were feeling feisty you would use it as an icebreaker or a “two truths, one lie” statement, but otherwise you didn’t really think about it.
You had plenty of other things to worry about, in fact, that’s exactly why you worked so much. It was so much easier to forget when you were constantly preoccupied with complaining customers and terribly awkward blind dates.
You had just sat this man, incredibly handsome, however it was clear he was on some kind of date. His reservation was for two, and he spent way too much time adjusting his clothes and table setting for him to not be trying to impress someone special. He also brought a gift, which judging by the packaging and shape, seemed to be some kind of wrapped book.
Even though he was 15 minutes early for his own reservation, he still looked really nervous, almost like he already believed she might not show up. You couldn’t help yourself, you had to go talk to him.
“Anyone ever tell you you should model?” you started with.
He looked up “Excuse me?”
“Sorry for being so bold, you just look so familiar,” he weirdly sounded very familiar as well, but you didn’t tell him that. “Are you sure you haven’t modeled? You have excellent bone structure. I bet you could.”
He laughed to himself, “yeah I’m sure.”
“Well your date is very lucky either way. I wish I had a boyfriend as handsome as you. Actually I wish I had a boyfriend period, but that’s a whole other story.”
He chuckled, and although you knew in your heart that you shouldn’t be flirting with him considering he was 15 minutes away from being actively on a date talking to him made you feel something you hadn’t felt in a long time. “What happened with your boyfriend? Do I even dare ask?”
“Well I kind of always knew he wasn’t super interested in me, but I really liked him, so I did my best to ignore his wandering eyes,” you sighed. “That didn’t stop him from leaving me for his coworker though.”
“That’s terrible.”
You smirked, “That’s not even the worst part, he broke up with me over a 27 second phone call. He didn’t even let me respond, he just kind of hung up.”
“I’m sorry, no one deserves that. Especially not you. I’ve only been talking to you for a couple minutes and I can tell that.”
“Oh really? What makes you so sure?”
“I’m pretty good at reading people.”
You smiled, “Well I should probably stop flirting with you now, considering your date hasn’t even started yet. And don’t worry, she’ll show, you’re so handsome she’d be stupid not to.”
He looked confused. “You were flirting with me?”
You laughed, “I thought you were good at reading people?”
He smiled back at you, and it made your heart soar, this silly, pure goofy smile that made you want to replace his date and have dinner with him right then and there.
You walked back to your hostess stand. A couple minutes later you noticed the handsome stranger on the phone. You thought nothing of it until later when a woman came in, clearly nervous, holding a gift bag.
“Can you give this to Spencer Reid for me please?” You recognized the name, the man you were just speaking with had filed his reservation under it.
“Um, yeah sure, aren’t you going to go in? He’s at that table over the-” but before you could finish your sentence the woman was gone. Your heart sank, poor Spencer, how could someone drop their date off a gift but stand them up anyway? That’s just cold.
When you get up to bring the gift to him, he’s already heading out of the restaurant himself.
“Sir? Spencer? Dr. Reid?” he turned his head. “A lady came in and dropped this off for you.”
His face dropped, it almost looked like he was about to cry. “Thank you,” he said as he looked up at you before leaving.
He ran out the door, both gifts in hand and whipped his head around a few times before sighing and speeding off in one direction. Even before you learned what happened after that and leading up to it, you felt terrible for the handsome stranger.
How could you not for someone so clearly distressed? Someone so clearly in love?
➽───────────────❥
7 years and a divorce later you were spending your Saturday in a park, strangely contemplating love itself. Although you barely remember that night all those years ago when you spoke to Spencer, he did. Vividly. In fact, on this Saturday you both were in a public park, contemplating your many failed attempts at true love.
It was your first wedding anniversary without your husband. Although you had only been married for two years, you still were having a hard time navigating life without him.
You started to wonder if you would ever find the true love you had been wishing for since your youth. Was 32 too late? Had you lived out all of your opportunities?
When you were little your mother had told you that all soulmates were attached at the left ring fingers, by small, incredibly thin strands of gold string, invisible to the naked eye. She insisted that these strings were constantly trying to pull you and your soulmate together, and that when life was ready for you two to meet, you would.
Until then, you would have small, mindless interactions. Things you wouldn’t think about, maybe even things that weren’t interactions at all. You would get the same commercial jingle stuck in your head. You would both get an intense craving for the same food. You’d have the same dream.
As a kid you were obsessed with this idea, you thought it was so romantic, and you fully believed everything your mom told you about it. You always asked her for more stories, and at bedtime you refused to sleep unless she would tell you more.
But now you were sure soulmates, true love even, didn’t exist. The invisible pretty gold strings your mother weaved fantastic stories with were completely fabricated. If they weren’t, you would have seen the clues by now.
Right?
➽───────────────❥
Spencer Reid was given an assignment from his therapist. He had to spend his Saturday off trying to interact with a stranger. Making friends with someone other than his colleagues may seem like a simple task for some, but it was something the young genius had almost no experience with.
He understood that it was probably for the best. He wasn’t exactly great with relationships of any kind, but especially not romantic ones. It didn’t take a genius to know that a couple of flirtations, a dead girlfriend he had only seen once, and a long time unrequited (or at least he thought unrequited) infatuation with his best friend and godsons’ mother was not a very great track record.
He, just like you, was also beginning to believe that he was hopeless when it came to love. That 38 was too old, that his time to meet someone and have the children he dreamed of had long passed.
But right as he was about to call JJ, to see if she would invite him in on the case Garcia had started to work on, he saw you.
Unlike you, he remembered your face and your interaction vividly. That almost date with Maeve was one of the biggest defining moments of his life, and what are the chances that the waitress from that very night was now less than 30 feet away from him, reading under the green leaves of a tree.
He wasn’t going to say anything, until he saw the book you were reading.
The Narrative of John Smith.
It must have been a sign, for what he wasn’t exactly sure yet, but it just had to mean something. The universe had to be reaching out to him, he had experienced crazier things.
And just as he was about to walk over to you, to close the gap between the gold strings tied around your ring fingers, a child interrupted his train of thought.
“That’s a strange haircut.”
➽───────────────❥
Derek Morgan and Spencer Reid were finally reuniting after many years. They barely got to see each other these days, but even though he was teaching and working at the BAU, Spencer still was willing to clear his schedule to second Derek suggested they meet up.
Morgan was excited as well, both to see his friend and to hopefully help him get a date. Sure, he had liked what he had heard about Max, but he wasn’t exactly surprised it had only lasted a couple months between her and Spencer. They just seemed too different.
Plus, now he got the chance to play wingman again, and he was ecstatic about that. Spencer not so much.
“I don’t know Morgan, it’s only been a couple months since we broke up. Wouldn’t it be too early to start talking to other people?”
“Pretty boy, you and I both know that the rate in which you’ve had relationships is not even close to the average. You need to balance that out somehow.”
Spencer sighed, he knew Derek was right, but he still felt strange.
“Morgan, have you ever heard of the red string of fate?”
“No, but I’m sure I’m about to hear all about it.”
“It’s an East Asian philosophy, based on the discovery that the ulnar artery connects the heart with the pinky finger, actually that’s where the belief in pinky promises come from. The reason it’s integrated in so many different cultures is that-”
“Kid, you’re losing me here,” Morgan interrupted. “Finish your thing about the string.”
“Oh yeah, sorry. It’s the idea that human relations are predestined by a red string that the gods tie to the pinky fingers of those who find each other in life. Legend has it that the two people connected by this thread will have an important story, regardless of the time, place or circumstances. The red string might get tangled, contracted or stretched, as surely often happens, but it can never break. Essentially, the idea is that although we might not realize it, our lives move in a pre-ordained direction, guided by invisible strings that are woven into the fabric of the Universe itself. And all the while, the red thread connecting us to our distant soulmates is getting shorter.”
“Well it’s an interesting theory kid, but it’s a lot to think about. I mean, we’re in a bar, let loose a little bit. Not every interaction has to be about getting closer to your soulmate. And sure, maybe you’ll meet them one day, maybe even soon. But you’re here now, and just because your one true love may not be, doesn’t mean it’s not worth it to be here.”
Spencer sighed, “You’re right. I don’t even know if I believe in that anyway, maybe I’m just looking for something to explain this all.
Derek patted his friend on the shoulder, “okay pretty ricky, this is how it’s about to go down. I’m going to buy you two drinks. You’re going to take both of them, and go find someone, anyone here to go talk to.”
“Ok, I think I can do that. Who?”
Derek looked around, trying to find who he believed would be the best match for his friend. “How about her?” he asked, pointing at you.
Spencer couldn’t believe it when he looked. There you were, the girl, the one he had met three times before, even if he could only remember two. The woman he knew was some sort of universe sent sign that Saturday he saw you underneath the greenery. The girl he was so close to talking to before he was interrupted by Max’s nephew. The woman who (and he obviously did not know this at the time) he would marry 3 years later. The one who would carefully knit the baby blankets for all of their friends and exes. The one who he would adopt 3 children with. The woman who, he was now sure, was at the other end of his invisible string. The girl he needed to talk to right now.
“Is it just me,” Morgan said, “Or does she look kind of familiar?”
“Yes,” Spencer responded, “yes she does.” He got up quickly and started making strides towards you.
“Wait!” Morgan called, “You forgot your drinks!”
“I don’t need them!” he shouted back. When he sat down next to you, you smiled. It made his heart soar, you had this silly, pure goofy smile that made him want to ask you out right then and there.
Instead he settled on the only conversation starter he could think of.
“Have you ever heard of the invisible string story?”
And you couldn’t help but laugh.
“A string that pulled me Out of all the wrong arms right into that dive bar Something wrapped all of my past mistakes in barbed wire Chains around my demons, wool to brave the seasons One single thread of gold tied me to you”

┅┅┅┅┅┅┅༻❁༺┅┅┅┅┅┅┅
(Y/N)'s point of view
Since Rossi joined the team, we were as busy as we had been in a long time. We didn't have much free time, and most of the cases took us out of Virginia. But, it was our job, and we all liked it, which is why none of us complained much. No one but JJ, who still tried to keep her relationship with Will a secret.
On the bright side, all that traveling and working with the team got us even closer. Having Rossi there gave us a boost to be better at what we did and be even better friends. We had to spend a lot of time together, and by the look in David's eyes, you could tell he was surprised by how good we all got along. At least most of the time.
We were in Florida trying to find an unsub who kidnapped and mutilated women when it happened. After knowing them for over two years, Garcia and Morgan had a fight. A real fight.
- "Hey, how is it going with Father Marks? Any of the volunteers jumped out at him?"- I asked Morgan when I found him at the station after a long day trying to find a lead that might take us to the unsub or the victims.
- "Not yet"- my cellphone rang that second, and Garcia's voice at the other side of the line gave me more info on the case.
- "I'm still running the particulars of our homicides though vicap. Nothing so far."- she announced.
- "Ok. I just sent you the volunteer search list"- I walked from Morgan and sipped my coffee, feeling there was something off.
- "Ok. And I'm cross-checking the names against mental institution records."
- "Pay attention to individuals who were involuntarily committed in Florida. Rossi is convinced our unsub is the type that likes to stick close to home."
- "Got it. Talk to you later."
- "Wait, PG. You usually call Morgan about these kinds of things. Is everything ok?"- I whispered though I knew Morgan was paying a lot of attention to what I was talking about on the phone with Garcia.
- "God, I hate profilers"- she groaned at the other side of the line.
- "Come on, tell me."
- "Fine. I met this guy in the coffee shop I go to every day. His computer crashed, and I helped him fix it. He flirted, I flirted, and he asked for my number, and somehow I gave it to him 'cos he was incredibly hot and nice, and did I mention he was smoking hot? I didn't think he was going to call, but he did, which was surprising 'cos these things do not happen to me, sweet cheeks, never! But it did! And when I told Derek, he just told me I have to blow him off 'cos it's too weird."
- "What!?"- Penelope spoke so fast she didn't even breathe.
- "Yes! Just because he wouldn't hit on me doesn't mean another hot guy wouldn't! And he made me feel like I don't deserve anyone's attention."
- "I'm gonna kill him,"- I whispered and turned around. Derek wide opened his eyes and shrugged, not getting what was going on.
- "Don't. I'll take care of him when you guys come home."
- "Well, take care in the mid-time, and I'm here if you need to talk."
I hung down and sighed. Morgan looked at me, knowing I knew what happened between the two of them.
- "So?"
- "You fucked it up,"- I whispered and smacked his shoulder.
- "Is she furious?"
- "She's hurt. That's actually worse."- Derek sighed and shook his head.
- "What do I do?"
- "You mean, other than to apologize?"- I walked with him to get Hotch and tell him what Garcia had just informed us- "Think big, 'cos you really fucked it up."
- "What does Reid do when he fucks things up with you?"- Morgan asked, and I could sense the innuendo hidden in his words.
- "He doesn't do a thing, 'cos he never fucks up"- I answered with a pleased smile and turned to Hotch. It was time to catch a killer, not time to argue with Derek.
I always thought Morgan and Garcia were the greatest friends I had ever met. I could envy their relationship, especially 'cos they could be so flirtatious and so adorable, and at the same time, you knew their friendship was sacred.
I envied that. I don't think Penelope felt for Derek the way I felt about Spencer. That's why I was sure I had fucked it up. I didn't have to catch those kinds of feelings for my best friend, and I felt I had to find a way to get rid of them. I had to stop having a crush on Reid.
Those weeks had been challenging and yet amazing. It was awful knowing I had a crush on my best friend, but I was really enjoying all the time we were spending together. We had been sharing rooms for the last two cases, and that meant endless sleepovers with Spencer. After a long day, we would meet in our room and just share candies, ice cream, pizza, movies, whatever we needed to decompress.
If things had been too hard, I would lay with him on his bed and just cuddle for a while before going back to my bed. More than once, I fell asleep with him, feeling his fingers playing with my hair as he read. I always apologized the following day, but Spencer kept saying he didn't bother, that he had slept well and that I could always count on him whenever I felt bad.
Knowing I had never done that with Mikey or Frank more than a handful of times in all the years we had met each other made me feel like the shit. Sure, I could sleep in the same bed with them, but not the way I did with Spencer. This felt intimate. Serious. Real. Waking up in Spencer's arms was the best way to start my day, and each time it happened, it made me feel worst and worst 'cos I didn't want to ruin the best friendship I ever had over a silly, stupid, meaningless crush.
Each time it happened, I promised myself it would be the last one. And each time I did, I ended up falling into his arms again. It never meant anything sexual. It was just sharing a bed, cuddling. Holding each other. It was all the intimacy I always refused to share with other people. And I guess that's what freaked me out the most: how vulnerable I was with Reid and how much I enjoyed it for the very first time. Ever.
- "Hey,"- I heard Spencer whisper when we landed. I was curled up on his chest on the couch on the plane, as usual after a long case. I scratched my eyes, probably messing with my makeup, and smiled at him.
- "Sorry... you must have been awfully uncomfortable."
- "Not really. Besides, you looked like you needed a good nap,"- I chuckled and shook my head, sitting down correctly.
- "Next time I drool on your jacket, please wake me up,"- I collected all my things and took a look around- "What time is it?"
- "Almost midnight,"- he announced and stared at me as he held his go bag and put on his jacket- "Do you want to grab something to eat before you go home?"- and I nodded, thinking that was exactly what I had in mind.
But life had other plans, and this time it had nothing to do with us. We were about to get out of my car to catch a late dinner when I got a call from Hotch telling me Penelope was in the local hospital. Spencer's cell phone rang at the same time, and JJ announced the same. We looked at each other for a moment, scared of the worst, and all we managed to do was to get buckled up and drive to the hospital. We both needed to know Penelope would be ok, but all we knew was that she had been shot, and the doctors were doing all they could to save her life.
As soon as we reached the waiting area, we met Aaron and JJ. They looked as worried as we were.
- "She's in surgery,"- JJ announced, and I hugged her immediately- "There's no word."
- "This is crazy,"- Spencer whispered as I felt JJ's arms tighten around me.
- "I can't believe it! I talked to her before we took off."- I murmured and closed my eyes.
- "What do we know?"- Rossi asked, walking over in a hurry with Prentiss.
- "Police think it's a botched robbery,"- Aaron explained.
- "Where's Morgan?"- Emily asked, looking around the hall.
- "He's not answering his cell,"- JJ replied, and Spencer took his phone right away.
- "I'll call him again."
I looked at him as he walked away and turned to my friends. Emily and JJ were doing their best to stay strong, but it was clear they were fighting the tears back, just as badly as I was doing.
Spencer walked back and shook his head. He couldn't reach Morgan. I walked to him and rested my head on his chest, and he wrapped his arms around me, holding me close to him. It was unreal. I felt I was in a nightmare, and I couldn't wake up, no matter how much I tried.
- "They can't give me an update,"- JJ walked over to us after half an hour. She had been trying to get more info about Penelope's condition, but nothing.
- "Morgan's phone just keeps going straight to voicemail,"- Spencer added, and Prentiss's angry voice nearly made me jump.
- "Where the hell is he?!"
Nearly two hours later, Spencer finally contacted Derek, and in less than half an hour, he rushed into the hospital and found us still waiting for news about Penelope. He ran over, shocked and confused, and looked at us, waiting for an explanation.
- "She's been in surgery a couple of hours."- JJ whispered as soon as he stood by our side.
- "I was at church. My phone was off,"- he explained and mostly tried to excuse himself for not being there earlier.
- "There is nothing you could have been doing here,"- Reid whispered, trying to make him feel better. Spoiler: it didn't work. Morgan was getting more and more hyperventilated with every second he spent in that hospital.
- "The police got any leads?"
- "I spoke to the lead detective. He doesn't think we'll get anything from the scene."
Hotch spoke in the calmest voice he had. Morgan was about to say something but bit his tongue. Instead of yelling, he walked around the hall for a few minutes until a doctor approached us.
- "Penelope Garcia?"- and we all nearly yelled "Yes" as a desperate reply.
- "The bullet went into her chest and ricocheted into her abdomen. She lost a lot of blood. It was touch-and-go for a while, but we were able to repair the injuries."
- "So what are you saying?"- JJ questioned as we all held our breath.
- "One centimeter over, and it would have torn right through her heart. Instead, she could actually walk out of here in a couple of days. And I'd say that's a minor miracle."
The way we all sighed, relieved at those words, was priceless and unbeatable. The doctor smiled at us and added.
- "She needs her rest. You can see her in the morning."
- "Thank you,"- I smiled at him, and he was gone. I turned around and looked at Reid. He cut me a short smile as Hotch's voice caught our attention.
- "David and I will go to the scene. I think the rest of you should be here when she wakes up. I don't care about protocol. I don't care whether we're working this officially or not. We don't touch any new cases until we find out who did this."
We all nodded right away. No one had other plans. And after those words, Hotch and Rossi were out of the hospital, and we were left waiting for Penelope to come back from surgery.
- "How are you?"- Reid whispered and handed me a new cup of coffee.
- "Scared. You?"
- "Me too"
- "Who could ever want to hurt Penny? She is adorable,"- I murmured and shook my head.
- "We are gonna find whoever did this"- Spencer held my hand and cut me the warmest smile. I nodded and looked at Derek, who stood up from his chair for the hundredth time and walked to Penelope's room to see if she was ok.
- "In case we ever fight, I want you to know I will always forgive you,"- I murmured in Spencer's ear and rested my head on his shoulder.
- "Should I be worried?"- he asked me, and I just shook my head.
- "I just wanted you to know that you will always be my best friend, Spencer Walter Reid. No matter what happens between us."
And I meant every word back then. I had no idea what was coming ahead and how much things would change within a few months.
Spencer's point of view
The attack against Penelope hit us all hard. She had been shot by the same man who had invited her out for dinner. The one she and Derek had had a fight about.
Of course, Morgan was the one who was more affected by the whole situation. I tried to comfort him, and he nearly killed me. I knew Derek didn't mean to be mean. He was just losing it and feeling overwhelmingly guilty about everything going on. He was in hell, and you could tell. I didn't want to think what it would be like to be in his place. If anything ever happened to (Y/N) and I wasn't there to help her, I would go crazy. So I understood how Derek felt and did my best to be supportive.
Those days also made it pretty evident Rossi was still shocked we were such close friends and team members at the same time. I know he was friends with Gideon, but the fact our friendship surprised him so much made me wonder how close they really were.
It didn't get better when we were all asked to stop working on the case after Hotch found an encrypted file in Garcia's system, and she ended up suspended. That's who we found out how the FBI had recruited her.
Morgan and I were at the hospital with Penelope when Hotch gave her the news and heard the story of her hackers days. Something that I bet she didn't really want us to know about her.
- "After my parents died, I... kind of went off the rails for a while. I dropped out of Cal Tech. I lived underground, basically. But I kept teaching myself code. It was like the one thing that kept me together. In the way, the bureau decided to keep an eye on me, I guess... Did you know they keep track of hackers?"
Neither Morgan nor I opened our mouths. We couldn't, 'cos we were processing the whole information.
- "They do, of the ones who have the skill to be either extremely useful or a potential menace."
- "So they offered you a job?"- I asked her, and she simply nodded- "Like Frank Abagnale. The bureau figured if you can't beat 'em, hire 'em."
- "Yeah. Something like that."
- "Garcia, what's on the encrypted file?"- Derek crossed his arms on his chest and stared at her, waiting to hear nothing but the truth.
- "I'm required to keep a record of everything the team does. And after my system got hacked and Elle got shot, I just didn't want anyone else to be able to get at you."
- "We'll talk to the doctor, see if he'll clear you to leave,"- I whispered and left the room, just in time to get JJ's call to announce we were officially off the case. It wasn't good, and it wasn't getting any better at all.
In a way, the fact we were all such good friends wasn't as beneficial to the case as it could be. It all came clear later that night. Penelope was attacked again, this time in her own house. Unfortunately, a cop was killed in the process, and if it weren't for Morgan, who insisted on crashing her couch that night, Penelope would have been dead too.
We were all at her house at three in the morning. We wanted to take her to the BAU and keep her safe, though we all knew it would be hard to explain to the authorities, all things considered. We were all just talking about what had just happened when Garcia started remembering more details about her date with her attacker, and we decided to ask more questions about it in case she could give us more info that might lead us to him.
- "Tell us about the car,"- I told her and sat in front of her.
- "Why?"
- "Just go with him"- Morgan smiled at her and nodded, trying to reassure her everything was ok. It wasn't, not even close.
- "You said it was white, 4-door, American. What else?"- I asked Penelope, but she shook her head, confused.
- "That's it. It was just a car."
- "No, come on, think. Anything. Go back."- Morgan held her hand. We could tell she was trying her best to cooperate, and he was making his best effort to be sweet and calm, considering he was losing it to catch the asshole who hurt her.
- "The seat belt was buckled behind his back. Why does that matter?"- and that was progress.
- "It wasn't a rental. It was for surveillance,"- Derek explained to her.
- "Agents don't wear seat belts. They need to get out in a hurry"- (Y/N) added and was about to add something else when Rossi walked across the room and sat in front of Penelope.
- "All right, let's cut the crap. You need to be straight with us. Right now!"- she wide opened her eyes in shock and turned to Morgan- "Look at me, not them!"- Rossi commanded.
- "I'm not hiding anything,"- Garcia whispered, astonished.
- "You got shot. Most people get shot for a reason,"- she tried to look at Derek again- "Eyes here!"
- "Ease up, Rossi!"- Morgan shouted when David raised his voice, scaring everybody in that room.
- "You got a roomful of people here willing to believe that an FBI agent has tried to kill you. We need to know everything you do on company time that we don't know about!"
Rossi yelled on her face, pushing her to tell the truth, and Garcia nearly started crying.
- "What?"
- "Come on, man!"- I guess we were all waiting for Derek to lose it and punch him.
- "It's nothing bad!"- Penelope yelled, and every eye in the room turned to her.
- "Spit it out!"- David pushed her again.
- "It's... I counsel victims' families, and they know where I work, so sometimes they ask me to look into cases for them."
- "What does that mean?"- Rossi frowned and kept his eyes on hers.
- "It just means that the cases, the unsolved ones, I tag them, so whoever's investigating them knows that the FBI considers them a priority."
- "You're not authorized to do that"- Hotch's voice was as severe as kind, which surprised us all. Rossi the most, I guess, 'cos he stood up and turned around.
- "I know. I was just trying to help."- Garcia whispered, fighting the tears back.
- "But whoever's working those cases thinks you're watching them,"- (Y/N) said in a softer voice, probably to explain to Garcia how the whole situation had ended up with her being shot.
- "I just wanted to put pressure on them so that they don't slide,"- Penelope excused herself.
- "How many cases are we talking about?"- Hotch asked.
- "I don't know. 7, 8 maybe. I need to get into my system."
- "You can't. You're suspended,"- Hotch reminded her, though it sounded more like "you are grounded."
- "Wait a minute,"- Morgan interrupted the conversation- "Garcia, on your date, you said this guy was pressing you to find out if you were working murder cases. Hotch, we gotta look at those files."
Hotch looked at David, who was still as pissed as earlier. I don't think neither of us had ever seen him acting like it.
- "I told you, I'm sick of this jagoff being in front of us,"- Rossi said to him, and Aaron nodded.
- "Dave's right. We'll go back to the BAU. Morgan, Reid, (Y/N), Prentiss, you stay here and make sure no one forgets to log out of the system. Garcia should not have access."
We all stayed in her living room as Garcia walked to her room and hacked her own system. At the other side of the screen, Kevin Lynch, the analyst of another FBI department, was fighting back, trying to protect the files, and losing the fight after a few minutes.
Later on, (Y/N) explained to me that was how they met and finally how they fell in love. I guess everything happens for a reason, after all.
We didn't catch the bad guy that day. Instead, JJ was forced to kill him. It was the very first time she shot anyone, and surprisingly, she wasn't as shook up as we all imagined she might be.
- "You do whatever it takes to protect your family,"- she said when Penelope asked her if she was ok.
And she was right. That's how we all felt for each other at that point. And somehow, we all knew we were going to prove it, sooner or later.
(Y/N)'s point of view
I had been part of the BAU for almost three years already when it happened. And I felt so stupid 'cos we had all had a rough couple of weeks, and the last thing anyone needed was another worry. We had just gotten over the whole Penelope issue; having another member of the team injured was the worst thing that could happen.
But it did.
I got shot.
We were after our unsub. George Flemming. The bastard had killed four women in less than a month, convinced God had sent him to Earth to get rid of sin. We had been after him for two whole weeks until we finally got him. But I was stupid and reckless and didn't wait for backups. I wanted to catch that mother fucker, 'cos the way he had killed those women made me madder than I had ever been with an unsub before. That's too dangerous. You can't lose yourself in a case, 'cos you lose your objectivity. You risk your life every day in this job, but that specific day, I put mine on a silver platter.
We were supposed to wait for backup. I was just checking the perimeter, searching for the unsub. Spencer was with me, but he stayed behind for a second, trying to contact Garcia to run the plate number of a car we found hidden in a barn. I should have waited for him, but I couldn't stay still and do nothing when I heard a woman screaming for help. I had to run and try to save her. I wasn't going to let George kill yet another innocent woman and get away with it. He had to pay.
- "FBI! Freeze!"- I shouted as I walked into the last room of the house and found George holding close and pointing a gun at a woman who was covered in blood and bruises but still very much alive. Which, I must say, was a relief.
- "Stay away!! I'll shoot her!! I swear I'm gonna shoot her!!"
The unsub was sweating cold; he looked sick and weak. He looked like I could definitely take him down in a fight.
- "George! Put down the gun!"- I commanded and didn't move my eyes from him.
- "You put your gun down!"
- "I am sorry, George, but I can't do that!"- I answered- "Now let her go and put the gun down before anyone else gets hurt."
- "I don't have to listen to a whore like you! Who do you think you are? Giving me commands? You are evil!! Evil!"- he shouted, clearly losing control.
- "(Y/N), where the hell are you?!"- I heard Reid asking in the earpiece, and I just shook my head.
- "That's all you've got, George? Hiding women in the back of your house and threatening them with your gun? That makes your God proud?"
- "Shut up!! You bring disgrace to Earth! You should be punished too!!"- I took a step closer slowly and shook my head.
- "You are going to be punished, George. For killing innocent women."
- "Innocent? What makes you think they didn't deserve it?"
- "What makes you think you are the one to judge them?"
I kept my gun pointed at him, but I couldn't take a shot 'cos he grabbed the victim and kept her close to him, like a shield.
- "There's a special place in hell for whores like you!"- he announced, and suddenly, all I could feel was pain. There was a second gunshot, and George was down. I took a look around and saw Morgan still pointing his gun at him from outside the room, as Spencer and Prentiss ran inside, and he moved to me and held me close.
- "Medic!! We need a medic!!"- Reid yelled frantically through the speaker- "(Y/N)! How do you feel?"
- "I'm ok, honey bunny,"- I whispered in the most excruciating pain I had ever felt in my entire life- He just shot my shoulder, nothing important.
But the way Spencer looked at me, I swear that no one has ever looked at me the same until this day.
- "Don't move!"- he commanded, though his voice was soft and gentle. Prentiss took care of checking George's body. He was clearly dead. She liberated his last hostage and helped her to the ambulance while Reid stayed by my side until a doctor appeared.
- "Why didn't you wait for me?"- Spencer asked as they took me to the ambulance.
- "She needed help"- that was all I could say.
- "Please, try not to talk,"- the paramedic commanded and got me into the ambulance, followed closely by Reid.
- "I'm coming with her."
My best friend wasn't asking for permission. He was informing the medical team he wasn't going anywhere else. And by the tone of his voice, it was clear no one was ever going to change his mind.
- "That was so stupid, chipmunk,"- Spencer whispered and held my hand in our way to the nearest hospital. The paramedics kept pressing my shoulder to stop the bleeding, and I just closed my eyes 'cos honestly, it hurt too much to process what was going on.
- "I am so sorry I wasn't there with you, chipmunk."
- "It's ok, honey,"- I mumbled- "You are right. I was stupid. This is my fault."
- "Please, don't talk,"- the paramedic commanded again, and I just shut up 'cos the pain was too much.
Spencer stayed by my side the whole time. After we reached the hospital, the paramedics took me to the ER, where a doctor cleaned my wound and took out the bullet from my shoulder.
It was a clean wound, and luckily, no arteries were hit. I just got some stitches and a sling, plus a few painkillers I really didn't want to take, 'cos after Spencer's experience with drugs, I was scared of painkillers.
- "Thank you,"- I whispered to the nurse who helped me get dressed and walked out of the room to find Spencer filling up the medical forms and Morgan and Prentiss waiting for me
- "How are you feeling, princess?"- Derek asked and caressed my cheek.
- "Like a virgin"- I sang the Madonna song- "Shot for the very first time"- and though Emily chuckled, Spencer didn't think it was funny.
- "I can't believe you think this is something to joke about!"- Reid frowned, upset.
- "Calm down, honey. I'm ok, I'm alive. It was just a shot on the shoulder."
- "Just? Just a shot in the shoulder?"- and Spencer freaked out- "Did you know some of the larger vessels of the human body run through the shoulder? The subclavian artery and vein, which by the way, are the basic blood supply to the upper extremity."
- "I'm sorry, honey bunny. I shouldn't have said that."- I whispered and tried to calm him down, 'cos I knew precisely the kind of man Spencer could be when he was mad and stressed.
- "The brachial plexus is also located in the shoulder, and it's the primary nerve supply to the upper extremity as well,"- he added and didn't take his eyes from the form he was filling.
- "I understand,"- I added, but he didn't stop.
- "You should also know that the shoulder is a very complex spheroid joint, and if it's injured, it can lead to lifelong disability."
I stood in front of Spencer and placed my movable hand on his chest. That forced him to stop writing and look at me.
- "I'm sorry I got hurt. It was a mistake. I didn't mean to make you mad at me or worry. I am ok, I am here, and I promise I won't do something as stupid and reckless as this ever again. Ok?"
Spencer looked at me and sighed. Morgan and Prentiss were still there by our side, and I had the feeling that stopped my friend from saying what was in his mind. Instead, he nodded and cut me a short smile.
- "Good. Can we go home now?"- I asked, and Morgan grabbed my bag immediately.
- "The jet is waiting, pretty girl. Let's go."
The flight back home was too long. It was only a four hours flight from Fargo to Quantico. But it felt eternal. Besides, I kept doing my best to act cool and in zero pain, in a poor attempt not to worry Spencer. Little did I know, no matter what, he would be worried sick anyway.
- "I was on the phone with Frank,"- he announced and sat in front of me with a cup of hot chocolate.
- "Please don't tell me you called to tell him I got shot,"- Spencer stared at me and cut me a short smile. I closed my eyes and groaned- "Did he go nuts?"
- "No, I started by telling him you were alright."
- "Thank you,"- I whispered and sipped the cup he had prepared for me just the way I liked it, even with the little marshmallows.
- "Your mom went bonkers, though."
- "You called my mom?!"- I shouted, and everybody in the team turned around and looked at us- "Why did you do that?"- Spencer looked at me surprised and frowned.
- "You just got shot, chipmunk. Of course, I'm gonna tell your mom!"
- "But she is going to overreact!"
- "She won't! We already talked. She said she'd stop tomorrow by your apartment to have lunch."
- "Tomorrow, I'll be at work for lunch,"- I frowned, and I swear I wanted to cross my arms on my chest, but I couldn't, 'cos... I have been shot.
- "You won't be back to work until next week,"- Aaron announced from his seat, overhearing the conversation.
- "But Hotch! I'm ok!"
- "Spencer is correct. You just got shot. Take the rest of the week,"- I groaned and frowned at my boss.
- "I can still do my paperwork."- I can't believe I was begging not to get days off from work.
- "You do realize most people don't argue when their bosses give them a few days off, right princess?"- Derek took off his headphones and asked, frowning.
- "But I'm not injured,"- I argued, but I knew I was losing that fight.
- "Chipmunk, may I remind you, you just got shot!"- Spencer looked at me, annoyed.
- "But I'm fine! Look at me! I can dance!"- I was about to stand up and do a little dance, but Reid stopped me. He literally grabbed my good arm and kept me on my seat.
- "It's Wednesday. You just have to stay home Thursday and Friday. And I'll be there, making sure you won't do anything stupid."
I looked at Spencer and groaned one more time.
- "There's no way out of this, (Y/N). You are hurt, and I'm gonna take care of you."
- "Will you cook?"- I whispered and pouted, defeated. And Spencer chuckled, blushing.
- "I will definitely call and ask for your favorite food"- I tried not to smile and shook my head.
- "Oh no, no. If you wanna take the lead and take care of me, you will have to do the whole job and cook, Spencer Walter Reid."- I teased him, and his cheeks turned blood red in less than a minute.
- "Fine,"- he whispered, narrowing his eyes.
- "I can give you my carbonara a la Rossi recipe,"- David said to Spencer from his seat- "Guaranteed to heal all wounds, and special to cheer up your girlfriend, kid."
Everybody stayed quiet at the same time. I wide opened my eyes, shocked, and looked at Spencer, whose cheeks were burning red.
- "She... (Y/N) is not my girlfriend,"- Spencer mumbled and avoided looking at me for a few seconds. Rossi chuckled and turned to us.
- "You call each other cute nicknames, you are always together, you argue like I did with my first wife..."
- "No"- I shook my head and did my best to ignore Derek's teasing comments and Emily's laughter.
- "Well, you could have fooled me,"- David smiled at me, and I didn't know what to answer. I frowned and looked at Spencer, who somehow was even more blushed than he had been a moment earlier.
- "I'm driving you, by the way,"- he whispered, and I didn't really have the strength to argue against that, so I just nodded and sighed.
Spencer's point of view
I thought I was going to die when I saw (Y/N) lying on the floor, blood coming from her shoulder. Time passed in slow motion, like a movie cliché. I ran to her, and I didn't know if the perimeter had been secured. I had no idea if the unsub was dead. I would have killed him myself if I hadn't been focused on (Y/N).
Then she smiled and assured me she was ok. But that wasn't enough for me. Her face was so pale, though her smile was shining bright. So I held her and called a medic. She was in pain, and I didn't know what to do to help her.
I held her hand the whole ride to the hospital and stayed by her side in the ER while the doctor cleaned her wound and put some stitches on it. Then I walked with her to the jet, and the whole time I made my best and biggest effort to stay calm. But once we were on the air, on our way back home, I couldn't hold it back anymore. I could feel the tears fighting their way out, no matter how much I tried to keep them inside.
So I did what seemed more logical and locked myself in the backroom. I needed a minute to put myself together again before I had to continue pretending I didn't nearly lose the woman I love that day. So I washed my face and let the water run through my fingers for a few minutes, trying to calm myself down. But I failed, and the tears started falling down my cheeks anyway.
I rested my back against the door and slowly slipped down to the floor until I was sitting, hugging my legs, crying my heart out.
I knew why I was crying. It was a weird mix of fear and relief. I was scared to lose (Y/N), and at the same time, relieved nothing terrible had happened to her. I had to convince myself it was all ok, that she was there on the plane with me, hopefully trying to get some rest.
- "Spence?"- I heard JJ's voice at the other side of the door, and I quickly stood up and washed my face saying, "In a minute." I looked at my reflex. My eyes were puffed, my cheeks were red. There was no way I could ever convince anyone I hadn't been crying.
- "Can you open the door?"
- "There's another bathroom, JJ,"- I said and closed my eyes.
- "I need to talk to you."
- "I'm kind of busy here..."
- "Spence, please"- she begged, and I gave up, only because I knew she wasn't going to leave me alone. No one at the BAU seems to understand the concept of personal space.
I opened the door and let her in. The bathroom was too small for the two of us, and I didn't want to think of all the teasing I would get from Morgan if he saw us locked in there. JJ smiled and handed me a cup of coffee. I just sipped it carefully, 'cos it was very hot, and looked at my hands, avoiding eye contact.
- "Why were you crying?"- she whispered and stood against the wall in front of me.
- "I wasn't,"- I lied, but she just raised an eyebrow, and I knew it was useless to deny it- "It was a hard day, and I needed to decompress somehow."
- "Was it because of (Y/N)?"- she simply asked, and I just nodded- "It wasn't your fault, Spence."
- "I should have been there. But I stayed behind, on the phone with Garcia checking the plate of a car that didn't even matter at the end."
- "You were doing your job, and so was she."
- "But I should have done my job better, 'cos something bad might have happened to her, and I would have never forgiven myself,"- JJ nodded and reached out for one of my hands. I tried not to look at her but failed.
- "Are you going to tell her how you feel?"
- "Telling her I feel guilty she got injured won't stop her from being reckless,"- but JJ shook her head.
- "No, Spence. I'm talking about you telling her you are in love with her."
I widened my eyes and stayed still, shocked, blushed. JJ cut me a short smile and probably tried to soothe me, 'cos I immediately got all defensive.
- "What... what are you talking about? I am not in love with (Y/N),"- I whispered and prayed no one outside that bathroom had heard her.
- "Spencer, there is nothing wrong with being in love. I actually think you two would make a cute couple."
- "No, JJ, no. I am not in love with her."
- "Spence, I'm not a profiler, but you are not that hard to read. I can see the way you look at her."
- "She is my best friend."
- "But you love her,"- JJ sentenced, and I just sighed- "It's not wrong to have feelings for someone, Spence. I am sure she feels the same way too."
- "We are just friends. That's it. Thanks for the coffee,"- I added and opened the door.
I walked out of the bathroom in a rush. To avoid talking with anyone on the plane, I called Frank and told him what had happened. I also asked him for Mrs. (Y/L/N) phone number and explained the facts too. She was so scared it took me a while to calm her down.
- "I'm going to stay with her tonight,"- I said and looked at (Y/N) at the other side of the yet. She hadn't slept at all, and I knew she had to rest.
- "Thank you, Spencer. I'll be in Virginia tomorrow. I'm visiting Phoenix in New York this week."
- "Don't worry, Mrs. (Y/L/N), I'll take care of her."
- "You are the sweetest man she could have met,"- she whispered before hanging down, and I couldn't help but wonder if she knew it too.
Apparently, I wasn't hiding my feelings for (Y/N) very well. If JJ could see it, maybe anyone else could. And after what Rossi said, I didn't know if I was busted or not. I didn't know anything. (Y/N) seemed to be as shocked as I pretended to be, so I guess I felt safe. But I knew I had to watch my back now.
Of course, planning to stay with her that night didn't make it easier for me at all.
- "I'm ok, honey bunny,"- she argued and sat carefully on her couch- "You don't have to stay here with me."
- "I'm sorry, chipmunk, but you were shot. There is nothing on Earth that's gonna make me leave you alone right now."
- "Fine, then help me take a shower,"- she simply said, and I widened my eyes. I know I even held my breath at that. I stared at her from the kitchen door, on my way to make her a cup of tea.
- "Well, in that case, I, I will do... I will do whatever you need to help you,"- I whispered and made my best not to stutter. She shook her head and sighed.
- "I was bluffing, honey. But I mean it, you don't have to stay and take care of me. I'll be fine. Just go home and rest,"- but all I could do was walk to the kitchen and put on the kettle.
- "I'm not going anywhere, so... how do you feel about that carbonara a la Rossi recipe?"
- "Spencer Walter Reid, you don't cook."
- "I do cook! Do you think I've lived on take-outs and coffee all these years?"
- "Hell yeah!"- she said and chuckled. She was right, though. I wasn't the best or more experienced cooker on Earth. But for her, I could try.
- "I tell you what. What if you take a bath and relax, I'll cook you dinner, and then we'll watch a movie? Anything you pick."
- "Anything?"- she raised an eyebrow and stared at me so sweetly and concentrated, I nearly stopped breathing. I didn't trust myself with an answer, so I just nodded and looked at her. Her cheeks were blushing, and that made me feel better. Clearly, she was relaxing at home. The color was coming back to her after being hurt. That was always a good sign.
- "Even my favorite chick flick?"- (Y/N) bit her lips and caught my full attention with that simple movement. I nodded again, not really thinking what she meant with "chick flicks." All I could think of were her lips and how incredibly soft they looked.
- "Even Pride and Prejudice?"- she added, and I nodded again.
- "It's an essential piece of literature. Jane Austen was an incredible writer,"- my voice was muffled, and her eyes were shining- "Did you know In 1802, in her late 20s, Austen briefly accepted a proposal from Harris Bigg-Wither, the younger brother of two of her close friends? She rescinded it the following day."
- "Yes, neither her nor her sister ever married"- (Y/N) added, and her eyes moved from mine, traveling around the room- "She believed that a woman shouldn't get married if she wasn't in love. She once advised her niece Fanny Knight that "anything is to be preferred or endured rather than marrying without affection."
Somehow, (Y/N)'s eyes were blurry with sadness all of a sudden. Her words stopped. I was tempted to hold her hands that rested on her lap but stopped myself. I was scared to give too much away, and that she suspected how I felt about her. I didn't want her thinking I was in love with her. Don't get me wrong, I was. I am. And I know I will always love her. But that night on that couch, I was afraid of her rejection and scared she might have stopped being my friend if she ever knew how I really felt about her.
- "Maybe you are right, honey,"- (Y/N) whispered and slowly stood up- "I'll take that bath after all."
- "Watch those stitches"- I quickly stood up too and just nodded, looking at her as she started walking towards her room- "I'll cook dinner meanwhile."
- "Thank you, honey bunny,"- she said and turned around just to cut me a small smile before disappearing into her bedroom.
I made my best effort with dinner. I followed Rossi's instructions to the letter. (Y/N) had a lot of food in her fridge. Unlike me, she actually cooked her own meals. She was right about me and the take-outs. I had never been a great cook, and I trusted my local Thai place with most of my dinners. But that night was different.
Pasta carbonara was pretty good, I must say. (Y/N) opened a bottle of wine, though I told her it was a horrible idea mixing drinking with the pain killers she was prescribed.
- "I am actually not taking them,"- she whispered and took a sip of red.
- "You had a major injure on that shoulder (Y/N)."
- "It's just five stitches, honey. I don't need those pills. I actually didn't even get them,"- she replied. I looked at her in awe, thinking she was way stronger than she even gave herself credit for.
- "In that case, you can have two glasses of wine and extra dessert,"- I stated, and she chuckled.
We ate in silence, but it wasn't uncomfortable. I guess the two of us were pretty tired that night. It had been a long day, a long case, and though neither of us wanted to deal with it, we knew things could have easily gone wrong.
After eating, I cleaned the dishes and prepared a tray with a cup of herbal tea for (Y/N), a coffee for me, and two bowls of ice cream, and we cuddled on the couch to watch Pride and Prejudice. She whispered most of the lines and argued against Darcy for half of the movie. But by the end, she snuggled closer to me, and I wrapped an arm around her carefully, trying not to get near her shoulder at all. Her head was resting on my chest, and I could feel her sighing with each word that Darcy spoke.
- "What is it with you and this book?"- I asked her suddenly. She huffed and looked at me with a cut, short smile.
- "I don't know, but I've been obsessing with Darcy and Lizy ever since I first read the story. I guess the classic "fools in love" story is my weakness. How couldn't they see how much they loved each other from day one?"
My mouth fell open, but I didn't say a word. She just smiled and turned to the screen again. That was good. I didn't want her to see how flustered I was.
- "Darcy knew he loved her, but he tried to fall out of love with her, and she was completely blinded by her so-called "hate" towards him to deal with her real feelings."- (Y/N) added- "I know that's not a complex and complete study of the story but in a short version of the whole plot... I guess that's what's so endearing and addictive about it. Everyone has been Darcy or Lizzy."
- "I doubt most people can relate with having four sisters and an obsessive nervous mother who keeps forcing you to get married,"- I joked, and (Y/N) giggled.
- "You'd be surprised, honey,"- she sighed and snuggled closer. My hand played with her hair for a few more minutes until the end of the movie.
- "(Y/N)?"- I whispered when we were already in bed. I wore the pajamas I kept in my go bag and crawled into bed with her as soon as she asked me to sleep with her. Ee had done it before, it wasn't weird, and we were best friends.
There was absolutely nothing friendly with how I felt, though. But I had to put all those feelings in a box and hide them deep inside of me 'cos they were no good for our relationship.
- "What happens, Spencer?"
- "I just wanted to tell you... you scared me today,"- she sighed. We were already hugged, but she snuggled closer and kissed my cheek softly.
- "I'm sorry, Spencer. I'll be more careful, I promise."
It was such a simple promise, and I knew though she meant well, the job was always going to get in the way. Our lives were always on the line working at the BAU. And no matter how much we wanted to take care of ourselves, sometimes things were out of our control.
- "Promise me you'll be careful too,"- she whispered, and I leaned over to kiss the top of her head gently.
- "I promise I'll be careful, chipmunk."
- "Will you always come home to me?"- she whispered and sighed, dozing off.
- "Always. I love you so much, (Y/N)"- that last confession fell from my lips before I could even realize what I was saying.
- "I love you too, honey,"- she answered, her voice muffled against my chest.
I stayed still, trying to burn in my memory every second of that moment, 'cos I knew it was going to be one of my most precious memories until my last day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO TIMOTHY JACKSON DRAKE-WAYNE, THE BEST BAT BOY OF THEM ALL!!! YOU CAN’T CHANGE MY MIND!!!!!!
Happy Birthday Tim
Tim never really cared for his birthday, afterall nobody ever remembered it, and he doubted that Bruce would care.  He had never shown much of an interest in him, which was fine since he wasn’t supposed to get close to him.  His entire job as Robin was to make sure Batman didn’t go crazy, he wasn’t supposed to get attached.  So he didn’t, at least that’s what he told himself.  It was around 10:45 PM when Tim went upstairs at Alfred’s request.  Timidly the 14 year old walked into the kitchen only to be met with a small white cake.  Upon closer inspection the cake had red and green letting that spelled out in neat scroll, “Happy Birthday Timothy” with perfectly cut strawberries decorating the sides.  Tim stared at the cake in awe, he’d never been given a birthday cake before, except at galas; but that didn’t count as he wasn’t really aloud to eat any.
“Good to see you up here Master Timothy.  Happy birthday young sir.  I apologize for the others absence, but I’m afraid that they are ‘busy’.”
Tim swiftlet lifted up his arms in a placating manner,
“Oh no, it’s fine.  Don’t worry about it, I wouldn’t want to bother anyone.”
Alfred gave him a small smile and nodded.
“Well, I believe that it is time for a bit of cake.”
Alfred walked around the counter and pulled out a plate, for, and knife before he cut a large piece and plated it.  Tim held back tears as he took his first bite of the cake.  This was the best cake he had ever had, and this was definitely his favorite birthday.
*******
Tim stared at the computer screen in front of him trying to figure out what he was missing.  He was tired, he hadn’t slept in a few days, and he was on his 8th cup of coffee from that hour alone.
“Tim, come with me!”
Dick said, suddenly on his right side.  Out of habit he turned and threw a punch at him.  Dick quickly ducked and laughed.
“Your getting faster baby bird.”
Tim sighed and rolled his eyes turning back to the computer.
“What do you need, Dick?”
He asked typing something onto the screen and scrunching his brow in frustration at the facts in front of him.  Dick rolled his eyes and sighed before he grabbed Tim and pulled him from the computer chair and onto his feet.  Tim groaned and tried to pull away in protest, but Dick overpowered him and he was dragged up the stairs.  Tim looked around to see where he was so he could make a quick escape if necessary.  When he looked forward again he saw he was being dragged to one of the main room doors.  He was thinking and going through all of the things he could have missed or forgotten, but nothing came to mind.  When the door opened the lights were off until they suddenly turned on and loud voices screamed,
“Happy birthday!”
From all around the room.  Tim blinked a few times everything catching up to him as he looked around and saw his family; Bruce, Alfred, Barbara, Stephanie, Cass, and Dick all around him.  The room was covered in decorations and on the table sat a decent sized 3 tier cake, just like the one he had had when turned fourteen, but bigger.  Tim ran through his memory and tried to recall what the date was and froze.  Oh, it was his 16th birthday, he had forgotten all about it.  He was pulled out of his stooped by Steph grabbing his arm and pulling him towards the table were 16 candles lined the rim of the cake and in the center it said, “Happy 16th Birthday Tim!” in the neatest cursive with a robin made of frosting right below it.  There was also neatly plated and perfectly made sushi on another table near them.  Tim smiled as everyone began to sing happy birthday to him and when he was done he blew out the candles happy and content with his day.  There was so much warmth that spread through his chest as he talked and ate cake with his family.  So much joy that surrounded the manor, he even saw Bruce smile.  Tim didn’t need to wish for anything, he was happy, and that’s all he could ever wish for.
*******
Tim looked at his watch and frowned.  He was now officially 19, but it didn’t matter, nothing mattered much now.  He was alone in Paris training with Lady Shiva, and his family didn’t care.  They were the ones who kicked him out afterall, he wasn’t wanted.  He sat under a shady tree bench in the park and watched as people talked and interacted with eachother.  It was peaceful, but that didn’t fill the hollowness he felt in his chest.  As he stood and began to walk away he felt someone crash into him and fell foreword, someone landing on his back.  Quickly the person got up and began to call out apologies obviously embarrassed.  Tim got up and turned around and came face to face with a girl about his age with dark black hair that tinted blue in the light and show startlingly bright bluebell eyes.  The girl was still talking and he wasn’t sure if she had even breathed yet.
“Hey, it’s ok.  Don’t worry about it.”
The girl immediately bit her lip and bowed her head as she tried to hide her face.  Tim smiled at the girl who was slightly shorter than him.
“I’m Tim.”
He said casually as he held out his hand.  The girl gave an awkward smile before excepting his hand and giving it a firm shake.
“Marinette.  Sorry again.”
“It’s nice to meet you Marinette.  Do you know where any good coffee shops are, I haven’t slept in a while and I really need a pick me up to finish my things.”
Marinette lit up and nodded.
“I totally understand.  I design and commissions keep me up all night half the time.  I live in a bakery and have concocted the best wake up coffee.  My friends say it’s very dangerous and I’m going to kill myself with it one day, but all well.  Why sleep when you can get things done?!”
Tim smiled at the girl as she began to walk and talk.  She was cute and was very dramatic in the way she spoke and expressed herself.  They walked across the street to a small bakery, the one Marinette must live in, and walked to the front where a short Asian woman stood near the register.  When the woman saw Marinette her smile grew as she welcomed them.
“I’m gonna make one of my specials for him!”
Marinette called out as she went to the back and started making some kind of coffee concoction.  The woman rolled her eyes, but she still held an amused smile.
“Hello, I’m Sabine.  Please choose a sweet, you’ll need it if you’re going to drink her “Miracle Cure”, as the college students like to call it.”
“Thank miss.  Please, call me Tim.”
He said giving her a small smile back as he browsed the selection.  In the display he noticed lots of animal themed treats and smiled.  There were many ladybug and cat themed ones as well as an orange fox, a turtle, a bee, a blue snake, a monkey, and a red dragon.  It was an interesting choice of animals and he wondered if they were important in some way here.  He found a small tarte aux fruits with an assortment of fruits that formed the red dragon.  When he looked up he saw the woman waiting for him still wearing her friendly smile.
“Could I please have the Tarte aux fruits du dragon please?”
“Of course dear.”
Carefully she opened the door to the refrigerated case and grabbed one of the fruit tarts and carefully put it in a small box.  Tim went to the register right as Marinette had finished and placed the large drink in front of him.  He pulled out his wallet but was stopped by Marinette’s hand.
“Nope, on the house.  An apology for earlier.”
She said with a bright smile.  Tim was shocked and felt a warmth he hadn’t felt in years begin to bloom once again.  He gently took the coffee from her hands and carefully picked up the small box with a plastic fork atop it.
“Thank you, Marinette.  That’s very kind of you.”
Her smile brightened and before Tim could stop or even think of what he was saying the words had already left his mouth,
“If you’re free, do you want to walk around Paris with me?”
Marinette blinked for a moment shocked, but then smiled again and nodded.
“Sure, that sounds nice!”
She took off the apron she had been wearing while making the coffee and hung it up on a wrack before walking out from behind the counter snd grabbing his arm and almost dragging him out the door.  When she realized what she was doing she quickly dropped it slightly blushing and scratched the back of her neck in embarrassment.
“S-sorry.  I should have asked first.”
Tim snickered a little, she was adorable.
“No it’s fine, so where to first?”
Tim asked as he gently placed the tart in his satchel and sipped the coffee.  When he did he felt his mind begin to clear and he felt more awake than he had in a long time.  He understood why it was called Miracle Cure now, this stuff was amazing!
“Well, where were you thinking of?”
“I was thinking of going to the Arc de Triomphe then head towards the Effiel Tower.”
Marinette beamed and nodded and began to walk towards the Arc de Triomphe.  She knew the path by heart as she often went there for inspiration.  The two talked the whole way there and bonded over their love of coffee and insomniac tendencies.  As they arrived at their first destination the sat on the steps and watched people pass them.  Tim pulled out the small tart and began to slowly eat it and smiled.  It tasted like Alfred’s cooking, though he didn’t want to admit that this might just be a bit better.  He glanced over at Marinette and noticed that she now had a sketchbook out and was drawing something.  He didn’t want to disturb her as he didn’t like being interrupted when he was really into something and let her draw as he watched the people.  Suddenly there was a loud crash.  He looked up and was shocked to see a giant child walking around smashing and destroying buildings.  He looked over and saw that Marinette had disappeared and he began to panic.
He stood up and began to move so he could get a better place to watch and analyze what was happening so that he could see if he needed to interfere.  He watched silently from a roof and saw a bunch of people begin to surround the child all with the same theme.  His mind flashed to the animals in the bakery and connected the dots as he glanced at all of the different people in animal costumes.  He watched as the Ladybug ordered everyone on the plan and on what to do which lead him to believe that she was the leader of this group.  It only took a few minutes and he watched the cat hero completely destroy a toy car from the giant child’s hand and a purple feather and butterfly flew out.  The ladybug hero quickly caught them and released them into the air.  She threw the object she had summoned into the air and he watched in amazement as thousands, maybe millions, of small ladybugs flew around the damage done and repaired all of it, including the bodies that had not been moving moments ago.
Tim ran back to the Arc de Triomphe and waited there to see if Marinette would come back.  It took a few minutes and then he saw her figure running towards him with panic and worry.
“Tim, I’m so sorry!  Are you ok?  I shouldn’t have left like that, I’m so sorry.”
Tim gave her an awkward smile and nodded.
“It’s fine, you came back afterall.”
She smiled at him and he lifted his arm out for her to take,
“Shall we continue our walk Mademoiselle?”
Tim asked with a slight bow.  Marinette giggled and gave a small curtsy before she placed her hand atop of his.
“Why of course Monsieur.”
They both laughed as they walked.  They enjoyed the silence for a bit before Tim asked what had happened.
Marinette gave him a sad sigh and explained the situation that had been happening in Paris for about 4 years now.  Tim was shocked that this hadn’t made it to the Justuce League, especially if it had been happening for four entire years.  Tim asked a few more questions that Marinette happily answered and they felt happy and content in the warm companionable silence.  Tim thought of all of his past birthdays, and he knew that this one was on the top 5 best list of his favorite birthdays.

DATPT part 5
The boys have a conversation with Bruce before all hell breaks loose.
we're gonna ignore the fact I haven't posted in months, for compensation can I give you an extra-long chapter? BTW yes I did finish editing this during class, I'm also not great with pranking siblings, and since this was the way to tell them bout Marinette/Ladybug I ran with it.
Read from the beginning:
1

“Ok, Damian, have fun.” Dick turned to his brothers. “Well, boys it looks like we’ll have the apartment to ourselves Damian’s staying with Marinette tonight.”
“And you're ok with that?!” Jason asked, shocked Dick would let their youngest brother stay over with his girlfriend.
“Oh don’t give me that they’re both eighteen now and something tells me Marinette’s parents will keep more than one eye on them. So what do you guys want to do tonight.” The three brothers had decided that this trip to Paris would also be family time, especially considering how they didn’t really get any of that during the year.
“Movie?” Tim asked.
“Which one.” Jason was not watching another
“How bout this one?” Tim picked up the box that Damian had left sitting out on the coffee table earlier that morning. Jason plucked it from Tim’s hands and began reading the title. “Night of the living statue. Are you sure this doesn’t even seem scary?”
“I mean there’s always the crowbar wielding clown we could watch.”
“Oh yeah, that one got burned a while ago.”
“Fair enough.”
“So Night of the living statue it is,” Dick said, already making the popcorn.
------------------
“No don’t go into the basement, oh come on!” Jason was yelling at the screen.
“Jason you know they can’t hear you right?” Tim said rolling his eyes, which were illuminated by the laptop screen sitting in front of him.
“I don’t care Replacement the fact they’re doing it goes against every bit of common sense, it just doesn’t make, well--”
“Sense?” Dick supplied walking back into the room with the third popcorn bucket of the evening.
“Exactly I just don’t get it!” Jason held out his hands and made a grabbing motion for the bucket Dick easily sidestepped him and plopped down between the two.
“Ok, Tim popcorns back computers off.” He said as he finished getting settled.
“But I’m almost in, five more minutes and we get authentic Wayne manor security footage, and that’s better than any movie.
“Rules are rules replacement you agreed to the trade so you have to deal with it,” Jason said munching on popcorn.
“He’s right, and anyway if you keep going at it we’re gonna get a call from Al-” Right on cue, the video call screen popped up on Tim’s computer. He groaned before hitting accept.
“Hey, Alf good to see ya ol’ buddy ol’ pal! How’s the good ol’ USofA?” He said in an overly perky voice.
“Master Drake if I might request you stop attempting to hack onto the Batcave system it would be much appreciated.” Alfred’s voice rang over the call.
“Just hacking into security footage, huh?” Dick said glaring at Tim, Paris was a no hero weekend and Tim just broke that.
“I uh… I’m gonna go.” He said ending the call, moving quickly he closed his laptop grabbed a handful of popcorn, bolted over the couch to the room he was staying in, and closed the door.
“Well, that’s the last we’ll be seeing of him tonight,” Dick said moving to grab his phone. He opened up Alfred’s contact at called him back. “Sorry, Alfred he’s just itching to get a case. He’s gotten really bored seeing Paris like a normal person, well as normal as you can get given we’re Waynes.”
“Don’t worry about it I have one of those as well.” He panned his camera over to where Bruce was sitting cowl down at the computer in the Batcave. Dick and Jason both gave a small laugh.
“How is he doing?” Dick asked.
“Oh same as usual, sulking during the night, acting like a complete buffon during the day.” Jason laughed, Dick heard Bruce mutter through the phone, and Alfred brought the camera over to Bruce.
“Hey, Bruce how ya doing?” Dick asked innocently.
“How am I doing? Let’s see Richard, my sons hijacked the plane to go to Paris on a whim with no planning whatsoever, I got a call from Damian’s school that he was absent today. I'm also dealing with a very angry Italian ambassador, oh and with all the girls out on other missions I’m dealing with the entirety of Gotham and WE by myself for who knows how long. How do you think I feel?” The bags under Bruce’s eyes were more pronounced than usual as he berated his two older sons for a few more minutes, “now do you two have a reasonable explanation, or am I going to be feeding your asses to Harley Quinn for therapy sessions this week.”
“Damian has a girlfriend,” Dick said smoothly, Alfred and Bruce both paused, looked at each other, and burst out laughing.
“Please Dick if you’re gonna come up with an excuse at least make it a plausible one,” Bruce said while Alfred was attempting to compose himself in the background.
“I’m telling the truth, her name is Marinette Dupain-Cheng. She’s in his class and apparently, they’ve been dating for the last few months.”
“I’m going to search her up and if you’re lying to me it’s three therapy sessions with Quinn.” Dick shivered remembering the last time that happened, He had been suspended over a shark tank until he admitted he needed to start putting himself first. Bruce typed a few things on the computer and let out a sharp whistle. “Well, I’ll be damned.”
“See I told you,” Dick said smugly.
“That doesn’t change the fact that---” Bruce was cut off as they heard a scream come from Tim’s room.
“Sorry, Bruce gotta go check that out. Call you later.” Dick ended the video
following Jason to Tim’s room where they saw him sitting over his computer furiously banging on the keyboard.
“Woah Woah replacement if you keep that up then there won’t be any computer left to type with.”
“I don’t care! Someone cut the power and I was in the middle of checking Parisian crime records.
“Don’t freak out,” Dick said calmly, “I’ll go check the fuse box, you and Jason can go check the router. Ok?”
“Ok,” Tim said taking a breath. He put his computer aside and walked out of the room with Jason following him. Dick tried to call Damian to find out where the fuse box was, but for some reason couldn’t get a signal inside the apartment. He walked out onto the balcony waving his phone up wildly seeing if a bar would show up. He sighed as he brought his phone down. Nothing. As he turned to go back inside he felt a small pinch on his neck he moved to swat at it and he felt nothing. As he stepped forwards his eyelids began drooping, he stumbled and reached for the railing. He missed and before he slipped into unconsciousness he felt the bite of cold cement against his arms.
---------------------------------------
When Dick woke up the sun was streaming through the living room window. He felt a weight on his stomach and when he stretched his neck up he saw Jason was lying on him, with Tim lying on the top of the pile. He laid there a moment as the night caught up to him, he began formulating who would knock them out, and how he was going to get out of this dogpile when a sharp“Ahem” sounded from the doorway. Standing there was Damian in jeans and a shirt.
“Well, it looks like you guys had a blast last night,” Marinette said poking her head in. It was the first time Dick had seen her without pigtails, instead, she had her blue-black locks tied back in a messy bun and she was suspiciously wearing Damian’s sweatshirt.
“You want to tell me why Father called me last night wanting to know all about my girlfriend and why I hadn’t told him about her yet.” Jason and Tim gave simultaneous groans of annoyance as Dick hopped up.
“Listen Damian I can explain,” He said stepping forward. He felt something hook his foot.  “What the--” he got out before red paint came crashing down on top of him. Jason and Tim, both awake now, shot up trying in vain to avoid the downpour only to stumble into more strings. Before anyone could blink glitter rained down from the ceiling sticking to the paint coating the boys. A camera flash later saw them giving the death glare to Damian as he and Marinette stood off to the side trying not to laugh.
“What. the. Hell.” Dick said as he wiped paint from his eyes.
“If you want to live Demonspawn you better hope that this paint comes out,” Jason said as he attempted to shake glitter from his hair.
“If Con ever finds that picture Jason isn’t gonna be the one you should be scared of,” Tim said dangerously low. Damian finally cracked and started laughing. Collectively the three batboys stopped and looked up in shock. They hadn’t heard Damian laugh before, sure they’ve heard the evil laugh and the Robin laugh but never his laugh, it was soft light, and infectious. Before long Marinette was laughing too, while Jason Tim and Dick were all smiling.
“Ok you were right that was better than anything I could think up,” Damian said as he composed himself.
“Hey give some credit to Luka,” Marinette said, “He was the one who suggested glitter.”
Jason’s eyes widened as he realized that not only did Demon spawn pull a nonlethal prank, but Marinette was in on it. Not just Marinette but some kid named Luka too.
“Wait back up, you’re telling me you guys decided that you should knock us out, and then dump red paint and glitter on us?” Tim said blearily.
“Well, we couldn’t just come out and tell you,” Marinette responded.
“Well we could, but this is revenge for your little family trip,” Damian interjected.
“Tell us what? That you hate us with a passion? You’re an evil psychopath?”
“You know for a family of detectives you guys can be rather slow.” Marinette slammed a hand over her mouth realizing what she had said. “I’m sorry I didn’t me--”
“I love you so much right now,” Damian said gawking at her, Marinette blushed.
“Ok, will one of you two please talk to us rather than whatever,” Jason gestured vaguely to the two of them, “that is.”
“What color is the glitter?” Marinette said as she turned her attention from Damian. She sounded almost like a school teacher would when talking to children.
“Black…” The boys responded in unison.
“And what color is the paint?”
“Red.”
“So what’s red and covered in black spots.”
“Lady----- Oh for fucks sake,” Tim said slapping his hand on his forehead.
“There it is,” Marinette said triumphantly, a smile spreading across her lips. A few moments later Jason and Dick both gasped as the information finally sunk in.
“Why can’t anyone in this family be normal.” The second youngest Wayne lamented.
“Well, at least this means you can join my team and me on patrols. I bet that’ll make Paris a little more interesting.” Tim perked up.
“Woah. Woah. Woah. We can talk all that out later but you need to go get cleaned up before the paint stains the carpet.” Damian interrupted, he didn’t like the fact Marinette was talking about patrol with his brothers.
“I would like to remind you that this was your plan, Damian,” Dick said.
“It may be my plan but it’s someone else’s carpet now go.”
The three boys were shepherded to the bathroom while Damian and Marinette cleaned up the mess left in the living room. All three of them were rather impressed with the way the two of them had revealed Marinette’s identity, although it went unspoken how if anyone revealed it there would be serious consequences.
It took them over an hour to even begin making a dent in the glitter-paint combination that covered their bodies. Dick having been directly under the bucket had it the worst, with Jason coming in at a close second. Jason thought he had at least gotten out the stuff in his hair during his shower, only to look in the mirror and let out a quiet fuck. Dick gave him a questioning look, in response, Jason just pointed to his hair. Where his white streak was now stained a deep crimson. “This means war.”

The Freedom of Expression Ep 55 - Rage Room.
K: Hi, this is Dir en grey's Kaoru with this week's episode of The Freedom of Expression . Joe, Tasai, welcome.
J: Today we are wearing...
K: Yeh, you've been wearing these recently, havn't you? Its just the right season for them.
T, J: Yeah.
J: Its a bit warm out for a thick coat during the day now..
T: Yeah, this is really useful.
K: It is a bit warm now, isn't it?
J: Yeah, and when it gets too warm I can just take this off, and put it straight in my bag...
T: Yeah, its just right. It really is easy to use.
K: I see.
T: Its great. And when I wear it, the girls think Im cool.
J: Do they really say that to you?
T: Haha, is it just me?
J: That sounds like bragging! No one says anything to me!
K: Don't they? haha
J: No! Why do some people get called cool, and others don't..even though we are both wearing Dir en grey clothes?? Does this simply mean Joe Yokomizo is not cool? Is that it?
T: No, no. Your mood switch is impressive, haha.
J: Please stop it. You know I'm still trying to get married again. Don't get in my way!
T: Why are you so angry? haha.
J: Thats just me, haha.
K: You are angry, aren't you?
J: Oh, I'm ok.
K: Speaking of getting angry...lets have today's topic.
T: Oh, good idea.
J: Ok, may I read out today's news? This news is about a 'Rage Room'.
T: Oh, very fitting.
J: Yes..In the suburbs of São Paulo, a 'Rage Room' has recently opened, where people can release their pent up stress and anxiety, and it has been proving popular. The room is set up in a warehouse, and peope can unleash their anger by smashing up old tvs and computers etc. According to Vanderlei Rodrigues (age 42), who started the business a month ago, there are quite a lot of people using the room who want to release their anger, especially with the spread of covid. Rodrigues claims this was the best time to open a Rage room, with so many people needing a release from the massive stress and aniexty which they are experiencing. Incidentally, the price to experience this is $4.64, which equates to about ¥490. Users need to wear protective clothing and a helmet, and can write words on the wall to aim their anger at, like 'ex-girlfriend', 'ex-husband', 'corruption', 'work' etc. A single-mother of two who used the room had this to say about it: 'Its good that I can work off my discontent in this rage room. My daughters, or anyone else, don't have to bear the brunt of my complaints, and its great being able to smash things'. A Rage Room! What do you think? First of all, would you go if there was one here?
T: I wanna try it out, yeh.
K: It sounds interesting.
J: Right? Smashing stuff up.
T: And its under ¥500.
J: Yes, it is.
T: Hm, that sounds pretty good.
J: Right?! It might be more expensive if it was in Japan, what with the land price being higher...if you compare it to São Paulo, Brazil. But if it was in the suburbs, like my home town Hachiouji or something, it might be cheaper, haha. It would be difficult to get there though. But if there was one here, I'd wanna try going. The question is though, if you went there, what would you aim your anger at?
T: Yeah.
J: Is there anything at Tokyo Sports you would pick?
T: There's a few things.
J: Right? Its like, what are you angry at? Like, 'My idiot boss!!!'?
T: Ah, I see.
K: Hiranabe?
J: Hiranabe! haha ???*1
T: Yeh, maybe I'll go with that. haha
J: Haha. Would you whack him in person?
T: No no, haha.
J: That would become a crime scene, haha. Kaoru, how about you?
K: Well, yeh...
J: What do you wanna unleash your rage at?
K: Hm, what do I? I don't really want to get direct anger AT anything. Stress happens as a result of lots of small things building up to make something bigger, right?
J: Of course.
K: I'd just wanna get the stress out in a way unrelated to all that stuff.
J: Ahh, I see. Well, yeh, stress has been building up bit by bit, even in just this last year.
K: Punchbags in gyms are apparently pretty popular too.
T, J: Ohh
J: People need somewhere to aim their rage. Ah, yeh there's that too. Some people go to the gym too. Lets go.
T: To a rage room?
J: Yeah. Well, I mean, I've got loads of things to  be angry at...loads that I can't say here, but...
T: Joe, are you that stressed out?
J: Yeah, its tough. My radio show is tough, everything is hard! Its been so tough, I wanna smash stuff.
T: But have you guys been really angry at anything recently? Like, so angry you wanted to punch someone?
K: Well, im not sure if its at that level, but I do get angry quite a lot...at people in the street wearing those noise cancelling earphones. They don't pay attention to anything around them, and just walk into you! There those people right?
T, J: Ahh, yeh yeh.
K???*2
T: You do get angry!
J: Well, yeah!
T: Well, I was out walking too, in Kichijōji, on a really narrow street near the station used by cars and pedestrians. And a drunk guy came riding his bike right down the middle of the street, and was about to crash right into me until I yelled at him. I was so angry with him!
J: Were you? Ahh.
T: Maybe my anger is aimed at people like that.
K: Mm, there are a lot of them.
J: This is why this kind of business works. Like you said earlier Kaoru, its not about being against a specific thing or person, its the daily stress that builds up and up, and this rage room helps to relieve that.
T: Its good, isn't it?
J: its just right. Should we do this? Let's open one.
K: Here?
J: Haha, we could smash loads here. Yeah, but a rage room. It sounds just right for these times....Kami is pretty quiet today..Are you there, Kami?
Kami: Im here, yes yes.
J: Were you asleep?
Kami: No no. Um, as for me...I wouldn't use this room.
J: Eh?! You wouldn't?
Kami: No.
J: Why? Don't you have any stress?
Kami: No, gods don't get angry.
J, T, K: Ehh?!
J: What do..
Kami: Its like, we are gods so we are not supposed to get angry.
J: Oh really?
T: I had the image that gods get angry quite a lot.
Kami: No, not necessarily. You use a hammer to smash tvs and computers, right?
J, T: Yeah.
J: It would feel good, right?
Kami: I'd definitely hurt myself if I did that.
J: Haha.
Kami: Then I'd think 'Ahhh, it hurts' and regret doing it, which would make me get angry again. So I'd never do that. And charging ¥490 for it just adds insult to injury.
J: Haha
K: Well, there is that too.
T: Yeah.
J: Kami, have you never been angry in your life?
Kami: I have loads of times.
J: You have? haha. You don't like the idea of a Rage Room though? You'd hurt yourself so you wouldn't use it?
Kami: I wouldn't.
J: Ahh, I see.
T: It would hurt your muscles a bit throwing a big, heavy hammer around.
J: Yeah, if you are not used to it.
T: Its scary.
K: Yeah, if its someone who doesn't usually use hammers.
J: Yeah, if it comes as a surprise, it'll be tough.
Kami: Um, wouldn't it be good to make something to prevent road rage? Something small.
J: Ah, yeah.
T: Yeah, road rage annoys me.
J: Road rage, yeh. Well, its dangerous.
Kami: If you told the government about a rage room that you can put in cars to prevent road rage, they would get it for you, right?
J: Ahh, well, like a small compartment?
Kami: Yes
J: A small rage compartment.
Kami: Yeah.
J: Before you get angry at person in front's driving, you could let it all out next to you ???*3
Kami: Ah, thats a good idea.
J: Haha
T: They could also make a room in the highway service areas or something?
Kami: Yeah.
T: To prevent road rage.
J: That might actually be good.
Kami: Yeah, road rage would disappear.
K: But if the wrong person comes in, they'll get punched.
J: Haha, your right. Everyone is there is stressed and annoyed, right?
K: Yeah.
J: If its not organised properly, they might start fighting.
K: They could have a martial arts contest in there.
J: Hahaha. Well, thats like putting your anger into a fight? Ahh.
T: I also wanna shout really loudly, to get rid of stress.
J: Ahh, we're not doing that recently, are we?
K: Ah, I see.
J: We can't yell at lives and stuff.
K: Well, Joe, you still talk a lot, but I've been talking less than usual.
T: Yeah.
J: Well, the number of conversations we have has decreased, right? Like, we don't go out drinking with friends..it builds stress.
K: Drinking makes your voice louder too, right? Joe, you get really loud when you drink! haha.
J: I do! Im so noisy
K: Well, yeah, its because of covid, people can't get their stress out.
J: Yeah. Well, lets think of some fun ways to get rid of stress.
T: Ok, lets think of something.
J: Firstly...
Kami: Something where you are not gonna get hurt and regret it.
J: Yes. But this is only dangerous because its tvs and computers, right, Kami? What if it were straw dolls or something?
Kami: Ah, in that case you'd hit your hand under the doll with the hammer.
J: Ah, you would. haha
Kami: There's no need for hammers and stuff.
J: Haha
T: He's peaceful.
J: Yeah
T: Very godlike.
K: But thats him messing up, right?
J: Oh, I see, its not that he's peaceful, its just about him messing up and hitting his own hand with the hammer. Does that make him a bit cute?
Kami: How about when you are opening a box and you pull it open with all your might, you cut your hand, right?
Kami: Cutting your hand on a box..
K: Oh, on a box, yeah. That happens a lot. I've been ordering online a lot recently. It cuts your fingers. ???*4
T: Yeh yeh, haha.
J: Also, when you get a package delivered and leave it in the hallway, and then bash your little toe off it when you walk past. Its only a small thing, but it hurst so much, right? Like, 'Uaaghh', you don't know what to do, right?
T: Yeah, thats annoying.
J: It really is. It would be better to just unpack it, but when you leave it there and bash your toe, its so bad!
Kami: Do you get annoyed?
T: What?
Kami: Do you get annoyed? As for me, if I bashed my little toe, I would think, 'Oh, not again!'. I would just be fed up.
K: Cute.
J: Haha, yeah. Whats happened to Kami today?
T: But yeh, it is those little things that often cause the big outbursts of anger. Just cutting your hand a tiny bit or something.
Kami: What would you call being fed up? Its not anger, but what is it?
J: What do you call that? Yeah.
T: Sulky?
K: Depression?
Kami: A sulking room would be good.
J: Ah, haha. Yeah, a sulking room.
Kami: It looks like there'd only be me in it.
T: Kami seems a bit sad today.
J: He does. Kami, did something bad happen to you?
Kami: Uh, yes, daily. All the time.
J: Oh, I see. Well, maybe not a rage room, but lets comfort each other in a sulking room.
T: Yeah, next time.
Kami: Yes please.
T: Lets get rid of the stress.
J: Yeah, haha.
K: Ok, lets finish here for this week.
J: Yes, im a little worried about Kami, but..
K: Thank you very much.

M’Baku pulled up to the Outreach Center a little earlier than necessary on Tuesday. He got out the automated car and leaned against it, crossing his arms as he scanned over the building and its surroundings while reflecting on the mission at hand. If they were successful, thousands of Black children, millions if they expand, would be given a better education and connected to their old, pre-colonizer ways.
He smiled at the thought and turned to grab his things, when he noticed a small rainbow dash from the other side of the parking lot into the building. It took him a moment to process what he saw, but he realized it was Miss In a Hurry, rushing yet again. He smiled fondly and shook his head before heading towards the Outreach Center, opening the door and heading inside the cool, air conditioned building.
Once the chief settled in his office he went over the assistant files one more time, preparing for their interviews. He went over his upcoming day in his head and remembered that his meeting with the head of the Arts Department was at 11. He smiled to himself, dreamily, at the thought of her bright teal hair and her deep dark eyes, but shook himself out of it when he was interrupted by a knock at the door.
“Mr. M’Baku?” a tall, slender man who looked to be in his early twenties stood in the doorway dressed in slacks and a button-down.
“Yes, who is asking?”
“Deontae Greene, I’m here for my interview,” the young man introduced himself. They shook hands and the interview began. Truthfully, M’Baku didn’t need to interview the other candidates, he had already decided on hiring Deontae the moment his interview ended. He went through the motions of the second and third interview, focusing on the clock more than the interviewees. As soon as his third interview ended, he called Deontae to offer him the position, then went for a quick walk around the center to stretch his legs.
M’Baku found himself outside one of Shuri’s STEM courses, watching as the middle school aged children learned coding languages. She waved him in, and he tentatively stepped inside.
“Everybody, this is M’Baku. He’s the leader of the Jabari tribe in Wakanda.”
A chorus of “Hi M’Baku” erupted from the room, and he smiled before greeting them back.
“Mholo, children. What are you working on today?”
A little girl in the back with braces and pigtails was the first to answer.
“Princess Shuri is teaching us how to make computers work by telling it what to do in different computer languages.”
M’Baku looked at Shuri in confusion and she waved it off to explain later.
The large chief walked around the room to get a look at what they were doing, but quickly made it back to the front of the room when he caught a glimpse of the clock on the wall.
“I have a meeting, or I would stay longer princess.”
“Go, and don't be a stranger to this side of the center. Technology isn't all bad,” Shuri said with a wink as he left and shut the door behind him.
M’Baku’s long legs carried him back to his office in record time, where he was met with the sight of the head of the arts department sitting cross-legged in the chair outside his office, writing in a notebook.
“I’m sorry to have kept you waiting, I wandered down to the STEM wing and lost track of time,” M’Baku rambled on until she looked up at him. Today she had on gold wire-rimmed glasses instead of her red cat-eye frames from the day before, and he liked that he could see her eyes better with this pair. When their eyes met his heart thumped a little louder and his skin felt a little warmer. He watched a small smile brighten up her face as she set her notebook down before unravelling her legs to stand up.
“I wasn’t waiting long. Plus it was your turn to be running late this time,” she responded. M’Baku gestured for her to enter the office first and she obliged before perching cross-legged in the chair across from him. He rounded the desk and sat down, looking into her eyes.
“I do not believe we were properly introduced to one another,” he held out his hand to her, shaking it from across the desk. “I am M’Baku, as you already know from yesterday.”
“Monae Johnson. It’s nice to officially meet you, M’Baku. And my apologies about the other day, I accidentally took a nap and woke up with barely enough time to- I’m rambling, my bad, I do that sometimes.” She rubbed the back of her head..
“It is no problem, really,” more than anything, M’Baku found her adorable.
“So did you end up trying the place I suggested?”
“Yes, I am actually glad you ran into me. I loved The V Spot. It was an excellent recommendation, thank you.” M’Baku had to give props where they were due and this woman definitely knew food. “You must tell me, what else is good in the area?”
“There’s so much! What do you like?”
“I am new to most cuisines, but I am open. Our meeting ends around lunchtime, would you care to accompany me and show me something I might like?”
Monae’s chest tightened up at his seemingly unintended double entendre. The man before her was fine as aged wine and she was having a very difficult time concentrating on the conversation, instead wishing she could see how soft his lips are. She looked down at the ring on her left ring finger and sighed, knowing she’d regret her decision.
“I’d love to.”
______
“You’re a vegan, right?”
“Vegetarian, but vegan is fine.”
“Ever tried Indian food?”
“I cannot say that I have.”
“Come on, there’s a place around here with some really good lunch specials. I hope you like it.”
“Well your last suggestion was superb, so I trust you,” he said with a wink. Monae blushed and turned away, but not before he noticed. M’Baku fought to contain his smile and cleared his throat. “So are you from Oakland?”
“Nope, I’m from Nashville. A southern girl at heart,” she said with her best southern debutante affectation. “I came to Cali for college and just never left.”
“What made you stay?”
“Honestly? It never gets cold here, not the type of cold that seeps into your bones anyway. The worst I’ve felt here is chilly. I’m not made for anything below 50 degrees.”
“As chief of the Jabari I must say I am a little offended, Miss Johnson.”
Monae’s face twisted up, but then softened when she saw the glint in his eye. Was he flirting?
“My apologies, your highness,” she said with a curtsey. “But I’ll admire it from afar.” Her ring flashed in her line of vision, but she shook it out of her mind.
“Besides, you are wrong. Anything over 40 degrees is unfit for habitation. The weather here makes me want to crawl into my refrigerator.”
Monae shivered at the thought.
The two of them arrived at Bombay Palace and since he trusted her judgement, she ordered for the table. The waiter took their menus and quickly brought their waters with lemon slices.
“Are you a vegetarian as well?”
“Um sometimes. I don't eat red meat, but I still eat fish and poultry on occasion. I’m mostly plant-based though. I read that the Jabari are pescetarian, what made you switch over?”
“You have been reading about us, eh?”
“Well I like to know who I’m working with, and I imagine that over the next few months we’ll be seeing a lot of each other, so yes I read about the Jabari.”
“Yes, I would hope so,” M’Baku said before taking a sip of his water while watching her. He noticed her shiver under his gaze and adjust herself in the booth and he smirked, knowing he was getting to her. “And I just do not like the taste of fish very much. Earlier you mentioned having a dance background, do you still dance?”
“I’m so busy I barely have enough time nowadays outside of teaching a class at the center here and there.”
The waiter returned with their samosa appetizer and Monae danced in her seat a little, making M’Baku crack a smile at her endearing antics. They both dug in, M’Baku immediately thanking Hanuman for the food he had received. The familiar yet unfamiliar tastes swirled around in his mouth like a gold medal ice skater at the winter olympics, and he couldn’t get enough.
“Mmm, what is this?”
“Samosas.”
“I could eat this for the rest of my life and die a happy man.”
Monae giggled and almost choked on her food, “This is just the first course, wait until you taste the paneer.”
The two of them continued to talk as more food came out, not watching the time at all.
“How does your family feel about you living so far away?”
“Well my little sister is in college at NYU, living her own life, and my parents died six years ago in a car crash, so they don't feel much of anything anymore.”
He was torn between laughing at her joke and feeling a deep sadness for her loss.
“What’s your family like?”
“I am the oldest of ten-”
“Ten?!”
“Yes.”
“Your poor mama...”
M’Baku’s laughter roared through the restaurant and forced a laugh out of Monae as well. Of course his laugh was as big as he was, and her mind briefly wondered if everything about him was proportional to his size before she was pulled out of her daydream by a ringing telephone. She looked down and her face dropped when she read the name on her screen. “Shit. Uh, sorry I have to answer this- Hi honey...yeah of course...uh-huh...no, just out at lunch with a colleague-”
He couldn’t believe his ears. He knew for a fact that she was flirting with him, yet here he was talking to her “honey.” He wanted to roll his eyes, but instead returned them to his bowl and kept eating.
“Hey, D, can I call you back? We’re just about done here...Ok, bye.” She hung up the phone and cleared her throat.
“Boyfriend?”
“Fiance actually,” she said, showing off the ring on her finger.
“Interesting…”
“What is?”
M’Baku leaned back in his chair and looked into her eyes as he spoke.
“I was not aware you were already spoken for.”
Something about the tone of his voice made her face heat up and she crossed her legs tighter.
“I have my ring on, what would make you think otherwise?”
“That right there,” he gestured to her flushed skin and fidgeting lower half. “You are awfully flirty for someone who is betrothed.”
Monae had hoped he wouldn’t notice and they could carry on like earlier, but the moment was ruined.
M’Baku looked at his watch, realizing they spent almost two hours at the restaurant. “We should get back to the center, I am sure we are missed.”
“M’Baku, I’m sorry to lead you on, but that wasn’t my intention, I just-”
“There is no need to explain, Monae.” He flashed her his gap-toothed smile and called for the waiter to bring their check. He paid, not without plenty of arguing on her end, and they headed back to work.
Shortly after he made it back to his desk the king and prince barged in.
“Soooo…?” N’Jadaka tried to get the conversation going, but M’Baku wasn’t following.
“How did it go?” T’Challa added.
“How did what go?”
The cousins looked at each other in exasperation, and yet again the hot headed prince pushed the issue further.
“Your date nigga! We saw you and Monae walking all close and shit.”
“It was not a date,” He loved the Udakus dearly, but Hanuman, they could be an annoying and intrusive bunch. “She is engaged.”
“Barely,” the cousins said with an eye roll.
“What do you mean ‘barely’?”
“My friend, she has been engaged for three years now with no wedding plans in place and he is almost never home. Like we said: barely.”
M’Baku would never knowingly break up a happy home, but he saw her body language on the phone and she didn’t seem to be as into her fiance as she was into him. Yes he was shiny and new, but the exasperation in her voice at his interruption told him what he needed to know.
“Far be it from me to advocate for adultery, but-”
“It ain't far from me, cuz,” N’Jadaka butted in. “Bak, that beautiful fairy of a woman likes your big ape ass for some reason. Fuck that nigga, she was looking at you like you’re already daddy.”
M’Baku looked over to T’Challa who was nodding in agreement. He had watched her during their department head meeting and every time M’Baku spoke she perked up and the tension fell from her shoulders. She was definitely feeling him.
“I have met this fiance just once and did not get a good vibe from him. I am not sure what it is yet, but there is something-”
M’Baku cut him off before he could even finish. He knew if he let them continue they would end up hatching a plan and roping him into it, so he nipped it in the bud.
“Do not worry about it, I would prefer to remain unattached for the short while I am here, anyway. Now if you know someone who would like something more casual, I would not mind meeting them at some point.”
“I’ll keep an eye out, brother”
“I think the newest history teacher is single, or at least there's no ring on her finger. I can’t remember her name though, is it Keisha? Naima? Whatever it is, she’s fine as hell,” N’Jadaka’s hands outlined her voluptuous body for him, which caught his interest. “I’ll see what I can do. We gon get you some pussy bruh, on Bast.”
T’Challa simply nodded in agreement again.
“Thank you both for your concern,” M’Baku responded dryly. “Now if you gentlemen would excuse me, I have to meet with the social studies department head in a minute.”
“We understand when we are not wanted, but please at least let N’Jadaka set you up. You need to get back out there again, it’s been more than enough time,” the king patted his friend’s shoulder before leaving the room, his cousin doing the same.
______
M’Baku’s last meeting didn’t end until 5 pm, and he was more than ready to get home, cook dinner, and watch a little more Fresh Prince. He packed up his things and headed out towards his car, when out of the corner of his eye he spotted Monae on the other side of the parking lot struggling with several boxes. He jogged over and took them from her hands.
“Here, let me.”
“How are you everywhere?” She laughed.
“You are just lucky, I guess.” He flashed her his million-dollar smile and she was hooked again. Derrick be damned.
“Yeah, I guess I am...um, thank you M’Baku...well uh, I should go. Busy day tomorrow with the open house and all.”
“Ah yes, what exactly is an open house?”
She chuckled at his naivety.
“Basically people from the community get to come here after hours to see what we offer. Think of it like a mass tour.”
“Interesting, well since I have nothing to show them on this tour I am sure I will have time to help if you need it.”
“Thank you, M’Baku, I just might take you up on that.”
“Good. Well, you should go home and rest for the big day ahead. I will see you tomorrow Monae.”
“Get home safe!”
It warmed his heart to hear her caring about his safety, even if it's something she said to everybody. A dreamy smile parted his lips and he felt as if she had just kissed his cheek and sent him on his way.
“You as well, Monae. You as well...”

MASTERLIST
~
When you woke the next morning, you knew immediately that something was wrong. The air didn’t smell like a Saturday morning. There was a distinct aroma that you could only classify as . . . man.
Fuck, you thought, getting out of bed as quietly as you could. You’d only had someone break in once before, but that was enough to scare you now.
Heart pounding softly, you tiptoed to your bedroom closet, withdrawing the bat kept just inside. Feeling a bit ridiculous, but scared, all the same, you crept into the living room, holding your phone with 911 pre-dialed, ready to press at the slightest threat.
“AH!” you shouted as you jumped forward ready to swing at—
—your empty living room.
You sighed, dropping the bat and making your way to the bathroom. It was probably just the landlord smoking again, blowing in through the vent.
Nearly out of bitter toothpaste and barely any money left from last week's paycheck. Great. It’s not like you could give yourself a raise, that’s not the kind of business owner you were. If you gave yourself a raise, you’d have to give one to your employees. And you certainly couldn’t afford to give Claire and Caleb a fatter check.
Stale coffee and a migraine was a horrible way to start a weekend. Not to mention you actually thought someone had broken into your apartment. Thinking back on it, it was rather far-fetched. You had nothing of value here. Your TV was years old and your computer probably held the world record for the slowest system ever. The only thing of value you had was cash and your Grandmother’s locket.
You reached up to your neck to hold the locket for comfort but all you felt was your clavicle.
Rushing to the bathroom mirror, you pulled off your pajama top and scoured your neck and chest for the pendant.
Instead, you were met with your shirtless self staring back at you, no necklace in sight.
You ran to the bed, stripping it of all covers and scrambling to find it. You had surely had it on last night, you remembered!
But the locket was nowhere to be found. Anywhere in your apartment.
Thinking you might have left it at the bookstore, you slipped on some shoes and made to unlock the front door . . . only to find that it wasn’t locked.
You froze. There was no way you hadn’t locked the door last night. It had become such a part of your habit you didn’t even notice doing it anymore. Fear settled in the pit of your stomach like a stone.
Within 10 minutes you were on the phone with the police, trying to explain your situation.
“No, it’s more than a feeling,” you said, annoyed, “I locked my door last night and when I woke up this morning, it was unlocked and my necklace is gone and I can’t find my hairbrush, just. . . . Send someone over here . . . please.”
The voice on the other end of the line was patronizing and bored, spiking anger in your gut.
“Are you positive that you locked your door last night?”
“As positive as I am that you’re an asshole!”
Before the man could retort, you slammed the phone down on the receiver and dropped your head into your hands. The bourbon in your kitchen cabinet was calling your name, but you weren’t ready to let your guard down yet. The situation was too unnerving.
Deciding that an in-person confrontation would have a stronger impact on the police, you grabbed your purse and took the elevator down to the lobby. You only lived ten minutes walking distance from the police station. A brisk pace would get you there in five. And after that exchange with the idiot on the phone, you didn’t feel like wasting any time.
~
“And when did you first notice something was off?”
The cop taking care of you was a woman, thank god. All the men you’d spoken to were so dismissive. This lady was a nice change of pace. You could do without the interrogation room, though.
“I guess the moment I woke up? I just sorta knew something was . . . off,” you said, shivering at the thought of someone being in your apartment while you slept.
“Don’t worry, Miss. I’ve taken your report and sent a unit to your apartment. In the meantime, is there someone you can stay with? A friend? A family member?”
Maybe Steve would let you crash on his couch. Claire was out of the question. Other than those two, you didn’t have any friends in the city.
“No,” you responded sadly, “There’s no one.”
The door to the interrogation room slammed open and five people wearing thick vests that said FBI barged in, quickly moving the officer with you away.
“Officer Lombardo, if you’d come with me,” a tall skinny man said, escorting her from the room.
You slid your chair back, alarmed, and stood against the wall, hands up in a defensive position.
“What’s going on? I don’t—“
A neat woman with black, pinned-back hair came up to you and put a gentle hand on your shoulder.
“Hello, hi, I’m Emily. Everything’s alright.”
She had soft eyes and her tone was gentle but you could tell this was a front she was putting on to comfort you.
“What’s going on Emily?” you asked, voice wavering.
She spoke calmly, trying to keep you distracted from the men holding guns behind her.
“The report you just filed came up flagged on our database — in reference to an alleged new serial killer. The second it was in the system we were called over here to. . .”
But everything had gone silent. You watched her lips move but no sound came out. Why is the room tilting? was the last thought you had before you hit the ground.
~
Bright light hit your eyes. Squinting, you tried to take in your surroundings. There were tubes in your arm and you weren’t wearing clothes. Ok. Hospital.
To your left, the woman from earlier, Emily, was talking quietly with a muscular bald man.
“Emily?” you rasped, still foggy from sleep.
Both of them looked at you, Emily stepping closer and holding your hand.
“Hey, how are you?” she said, then, to the man behind her, “get Hotch.”
“Who’s that?” you were confused and your head hurt. I just want to go home, you thought.
“That’s my boss, he’s gonna help you. We all are.”
Head pounding, sick to your stomach, you managed to get up out of the hospital bed and yank out the IV.
“Hey, woah. Slow down,” Emily tried to block your path, and you would have given in but for some reason, you kept pushing past her.
“I need to know what’s going on!” you said, a little too loud. “Please, just let me go home.”
“We can’t.”
You turned to a tall man with sharp facial features and a set jaw. He wasn’t smiling. The lack of lines on his face hinted he’d never smiled.
“Why not?” you whispered, unsure if he’d be able to hear you.
“You’re a target for a serial killer.”

7 Secrets Drabbles
The one where Jungkook finds out
Tumblr media
This is a Drabble/oneshot based off of my soulmate series “7 Secrets” from the point of view of Jungkook. Namjoon says that Jungkook is the one who originally found out about the soulmates, so I thought it’d be fun to show what happened exactly. Enjoy!
Genre: BTS Soulmate au
Warnings: None as far as I know
Word count: 1.7k
undefined
youtube
Song recommendation: “Invisible String” by Taylor Swift
Tapping on the door I wait for a few seconds before peeking my head into the room. Clutching my laptop close to my chest it takes a moment before my eyes adjust to the dimly lit room.
“Oh, hey Jungkook. How’s it going?” One of the staff on the editing team greets me, shuffling around as he clicks around on his computer.
“Hey Ji-hoon. Can I borrow your computer again? My editing program crashed, and I really want to get this done.” I hold up my laptop for emphasis.
Ji-hoon’s eyes trail over to his screen, nodding absentmindedly while he no doubt gets the program up and running. “Uh, yeah. That’s fine...let me just…” He snaps his fingers when he finishes. “There you go! Just don’t go in and mess up my stuff, alright?” He teases me.
I’m quick to promise him I won’t do anything of the sort. “Are you going somewhere?” I ask as Ji-hoon grabs his jacket. He nods, edging his way toward the door.
“Yeah, meeting up with some friends for dinner. I just stayed a little later so I could get ahead on some stuff. When you’re finished just save everything and shut it down, alright?” With that, Ji-hoon disappears from sight.
I sigh, settling down into his chair. My eyes grow wide, getting into the zone as I try my best to get back to the point I was in the editing process before my program decided to kick me out.
The hours tick by, and I jump up with a shock as I glimpse the time.
“Oh no,” I groan. “Jin is going to kill me.” I was supposed to help him with our unit song tonight. He’s probably been waiting for over an hour.
Quickly, I save and am in the process of trying to send myself the edited video when something catches my eye. On the bottom right-hand corner of the computer is a sticky note. Clearly in Ji-hoon’s writing, which says, “fix opening credits for ep. 64”.
I furrow my brow. “What episode is he talking about?” It’s been a while since the 64th episode of Run! BTS. I quickly send off my edited video, leaning back in the chair and rubbing my eyes.
Editing is a kind of twisted hobby of mine. It’s exhausting, but it’s also the most calming thing in the world to me. Once I manage to sit up again I go to power of the computer. A thought pops up into my head.
“Ji-hoon seemed like he was in a rush earlier...I should probably help him fix the opening credits for episode 64 so he doesn’t have to worry about it later. That can be my thanks to him for letting me use his stuff all the time.”
Mumbling to myself has long become a habit, and it’s in moments like these that I completely forget I don’t have an audience to narrate every little thing for.
Rolling my neck and sending Jin a text apologizing for showing up late, I get to work. Jin will understand, he’d do the same.
It doesn’t take me long to bring the files back up, quickly finding the video again. I double click on it, turning the volume down low and double checking that Ji-hoon isn’t about to barge in here demanding to know what I’m doing.
The screen is black for a moment, just the words, “Insert opening credits” showing up before big bold letters spill across the screen.
Episode 64 - “Back to school” I hum in acknowledgement, we’ve certainly had plenty of school-related episodes in Run! BTS. However, when the scene that first appears is inside a kitchen that I’m sure I’ve never seen before, I’m wracking my brain, trying to place the episode.
Quickly pausing it, I pull up the calendar on my phone. If this was episode 64 of Run it would have been in… February?
“We didn’t film anything in February…” I mumble. “Was this already recorded?” I shrug, pressing play. Maybe I’ll remember it once I watch it through. Shaking off the strange feeling in my stomach that forces me to the edge of my seat, I watch with wide eyes.
“Soon-ah?” A whisper comes from the audio, although the owner of the feminine voice is nowhere to be found. “Soon-ah? I’m so sorry, did I wake you up?” Indecipherable mumbles respond. “Oh, ok. I was just wondering, could you maybe help me with the map one more time before I leave? I’m scared that I’ve got it all backwards, and I don’t want to be late for my first class because I’m lost.”
Some more grumbling and loud thumping happen before a girl appears in view. She’s chewing on her lip, clearly nervous about something. Heading toward the kitchen she reaches up for a bowl, map tucked under her arm. Looking directly into the camera she gives a cheery wave despite her obvious nerves. I’m pretty sure I’ve lost the ability to breathe. Or formulate sentences.
“You...you…” The words fall from my lips without my consent. “This is…what is this? Where - who…”
I know who that is. Even though she remains nameless to me for the moment, I know exactly who that is. The girl in the screen continues on, completely clueless to my current predicament. She’s humming to herself, pouring a bowl of cereal. I find myself leaning closer, nearly falling off my chair in the process.
“Wha- what’s the map for? Where are you going? Is there a map I can use that will lead me to you?” The questions dive off my tongue even though I know the chances of the girl before me turning back to the camera and answering them are slim to none.
“Do you want me to bring you food, Soon-ah?” The angel asks, eyes looking down the hallway. I’m pinching myself, fighting the urge to cry out and beg her to turn around again. Look at the camera. Look at me.
The girl shrugs when she receives an answer that the audio doesn’t pick up. That’s when I notice the microphone clipped to the girl’s clothes. Somehow, these girls are aware and participating in some sort of show… Why didn’t I know about this?
Wait, why am I upset about this?
It’s almost as if she hears my thoughts, because the girl is quick to turn around and remind me of exactly why I should be upset about not knowing about her existence earlier. She returns the box of cereal to where it must be resting beside the camera. Looking into the camera again as though it’s an everyday occurrence, she winks.
“I’m starting my first day at the university, so if you’re watching this Jungkook, wish me luck. I’ll do my best not to get lost,” she holds up the map to emphasize just how hard she’s trying to not get lost.
“You...this is for me? I- good luck!” Too many thoughts are rolling around my head now to really get anything straight, but there is one thought that sticks around. I breathe it out.
“I never got my results back.”
Hand running through my hair at lightning speed I gulp down as much as my lungs will allow. Suddenly the floor has disappeared from beneath me as I remember with a start going in for soulmate testing. The procedures lasted about a week, and we were told that we would be given our results within a couple of months. Counting in my head I strain to remember when that was. Definitely more than two months.
 More like three years.
While we were told beforehand that most results come back as inconclusive, we were actually never told that’s what happened with our tests. I guess I just assumed as much when we never heard back about it.
But there’s this girl in a kitchen hunched over eating cereal and studying a map out with such precious concentration that I can’t help but curse myself for being so young and naive and stupid. I should have demanded an answer.
A moment passes before another girl hops into the kitchen, the two of them smiling. “Are you excited? I see you’re back to studying that map.” The new girl asks, stuffing her hands in her hoodie as she begins studying out the contents of the fridge.
It’s a BTS hoodie, that much I can see. However, when she finally turns her back to the camera I chuckle. More specifically, it’s a Suga hoodie.
“Yeah, I think so. It feels nice to take this next step instead of just…” the girl with the map; my girl, sneaks a look at the camera. My heart stutters at the indirect eye contact. “You know. Waiting.”
I jump as my phone suddenly sounds, hardly able to tear my attention away from the scene in front of me. Quickly pausing it I see Jin’s contact photo taking up the screen of my phone, and I answer it.
“Where are you?”
I don’t bother to answer his question as a sob I didn’t realize I was containing rips through me. “Hyung! H-hyung you won’t believe this.”
“Kook where are you? Is everything al-”
“Soulmates, hyung! We have soulmates! And they never told us, they’ve kept them from us, but they’re real and...and mine is going to the university and she’s so nervous and-”
“Jungkook,” Jin breathes out in wonder. “What happened? Where are you?”
I’m already a step ahead of him, quickly exporting the video and sending it to my personal email. There’s no way I’m losing this, not now that I finally know.
“I’m still at work, I’m on the bottom floor.” My voice still wavers, but it’s growing steadily harder as the fire within me threatens to set everything it touches alfame. Starting with Bang PD. “Just, wait for me, ok? Meet me in the conference room on the second floor. I have something to show you.”
I don’t even wait to hear a response before I’m up, reluctantly closing out of the computer before bolting out the door and up to the second floor. Holding my laptop close to my chest I dial another number, the tears already flowing as I hear his voice.
 “Hey Kook, what’s-”
“Joon,” I croak out, the tears making my throat close up. “I need you to listen to me, this is important.”

You see the real me
Hey @komorebirei, I’m your @lukadrien-winter gifter! Before we got our assignments, I had been rereading a lot of Sarah Dessen and Meg Cabot books, so this is kinda based on Sarah Dessen’s book Just Listen. If you have read it, don’t worry, I made sure it didn’t have any of your triggers in it. I hope you like it. I based it off one of my favourite scenes from the book. Mentions of ‘the cult’ and Nathan are from Divergance by @depressed-teacup-inc and @sarcasticsparkles (TwiglightMaster15). Hope you enjoy!
Clara Nightingale played from the speakers of Adrien’s computer as he dialled the number for the radio station.
“MIRC Radio.”
“I wasn’t at the mall to see Clara Nightingale; I actually know her,” Adrien defended. He then realised Luka would just use it as an excuse to tease him more.
“That doesn’t exactly clear you of being there,” Luka said. God, he walked right into that one.
“I had a meeting for the fashion show? I’m surprised Rose didn’t tell you.”
“She was more focused on seeing you and getting all that stuff from the swimsuit store. Also, why is Paris’ biggest model doing a fashion show at a mall?”
“You mean, the biggest mall in Paris that holds a total of 30 different stores that sell my father’s clothes? Kinda don’t have a choice.”
“Woo of being a model. Any chance you get to choose what you eat?”
Adrien raised an eyebrow. “Lunch on Friday was a bag of chips. What do you think?”
“Fair enough. Come get breakfast with me. It’s a tradition after every radio show. Nathans paying.”
Adrien thought of the red-haired bundle of energy. “Sure.”
“We’ll be at your house in 20. See you then.”
Adrien hung up and closed the webpage that had the radio’s website on it. Usually, he would sleep in on weekends, unless he had any photoshoots. But like many things that changed after the summer, waking up to listen to the radio was a new thing. All Adrien wanted was to get through school without any issues. Not that a certain person would make that easy. And of course because he made stupid decisions that pushed away any friends he could have had, Adrien was alone. It was like when he started school again.
Then…Luka. After a confrontation he’d rather not relive, Luka came to check on him. Even after seeing him hide in the boy’s room and actually get sick, he was there with tissues and water, asking if he was ok. It had been so strange then. To everyone, Luka was the weirdly silent kid who hung out with a ‘cult’, but would apparently beat up anyone who looked at him wrong. Adrien still remembered when one of the seniors had tried lording over him. Luka dropped his guitar case, punched the guy in the face and then walked off. He should have been terrifying. But like people started to believe the rumors following Adrien about him, he realised he had been the same for Luka. Luka was just a guy so in love with music and had trouble expressing himself without it, so he’d done it with his fists. But Anger Management had helped and now he actually had words and Adrien just couldn’t help but feel stable around him.
Everything else in his life was going crazy. The rumors, the actual truth behind said rumors, Felix and issues with his mom and Adrien’s father, his loneliness because he couldn’t just talk to the people he’d been friends with for so long, the pressures of still doing modelling, everything. Luka made sense and even with his incredibly odd taste for music and odd sayings pulled from Anger Management classes, Adrien felt happy. Of course the crush that was growing might have also added things. He tried ignoring it, and maybe ignoring Luka, but the idea of losing him wasn’t something he wanted, so he accepted it. Whether or not he’d act on it was the question, but who knew.
The mansion was quiet. His parents were still out of town, Felix was no doubt still asleep and Nathalie never got up before coffee was made. He did find Gorilla in the kitchen doing just that though.
“Hey, I’m going out for breakfast. A friend is picking me up,” he told the towering silent man, who nodded after miming at him to have his phone.
He walked outside, already finding two motorcycles sitting outside the gate. Luka had his spare helmet waiting for him, his own visor pushed up.
“Question, how do you feel about bacon?”
“Bacon?”
“You know, pork product? Smells amazing? Best part of breakfast?”
“I mean, it’s not usually one of my list of things I can eat, but I guess I can deal.”
“Excellent, get on.”
Adrien had gotten very used to Luka’s very fast driving and before he knew it, they were pulling up to a large restaurant. Nathan was bouncing in place waiting for Adrien and Luka to get off the bike before he darted off to the front door. The restraint was modelled after an American diner and it was freezing inside.
“Oh, right. Sorry, I forgot to mention how cold they have it in here,” Luka said, pulling off his jacket, which Adrien tried to wave off. “Trust me. They keep it cold in here so you don’t stay all day.”
He took the jacket, taking in how warm it was. Luka’s scent wafted up, almost covering up the heavy smell of bacon inside the restaurant.
“Why does it smell like a meat store in here?” Adrien asked, sitting next to Luka.
“Well this place has always been the place we get breakfast from after the radio show. Ever since the first one. But they got a competitor not too long ago,” Nathan started to explain.
“With crap pancakes and service.” Luka interrupted.
“Yes. So to counteract it, they made every day double bacon day. Whatever you order, you get a double order of bacon.”
“Which he of course has to pay for.”
Nathan pouted. “You try asking for what I want.”
“I have.” Noticing Adrien’s confused face, he explained. “We’ve got a friend who makes D&D characters and she designs all of ours. Nathan here has a specific look he wants but he thinks it’s too embarrassing to ask for. I told him if he asked, I’d pay for breakfast forever. If he doesn’t, then he will. We’ve had two redesigns in the past year or so and he’s still chickened out.”
Nathan stuck his tongue out like a child. “Leave me alone.”
Adrien shook his head. This was his life now, with a music loving former rebel and an overactive redhead. This he would gladly deal with.
While the others ordered large platters, Adrien played it safe with a waffle and bacon, though Luka let him steal some of his eggs. Funnily enough, if Nathan tried, he’d get a slap on the back of the hand. He tried not to preen at the special attention.
Nathan had to head to work, so it was just the two of them as they drove back towards Agreste Mansion. It was still quiet in the streets and it seemed like there was no movement in the house.
“Thanks for breakfast.”
“No problem. If I had known playing pop songs would get your attention, I would have done it sooner.”
Adrien rolled his eyes. “No you wouldn’t.”
“Ok no cause I hate that music but still. You said you won’t be at school on Monday, right?”
“Yeah, it’s the only time an outfit fitting could be scheduled. So Tuesday then?”
“Tuesday. I’ll see you later.”
Adrien had already entered through the gates when he realised that he was still wearing Luka’s jacket. He turned to try and give it back, but Luka had already sped off. Adrien started to pull it off anyway as he made his way through the door when he felt something in the coat hit against his leg. Inside one of the pockets was Luka’s iPod. His pride and joy. Adrien couldn’t remember a time when Luka didn’t have it on him.
That first day of school, when Adrien avoided the lunch room or any of the lunch benches out on the quad, he sat next to Luka against a wall. He had his earphones in, eyes focused on a book. Adrien still didn’t know him then. If he’d been told at that time that Luka Couffaine would become his rock, his best friend, his, well, crush, he would have thought that person was insane. But here he was.
Felix was leaving the dining room when he went inside, looking surprised to see Adrien.
“When did you leave?”
“Early this morning. I got breakfast with a friend.”
Felix raised an eyebrow. “Same one who delivered that pizza before?”
One of Luka’s jobs was as a delivery person for a local pizza place. When Adrien had tried listening to one of Luka’s many made CDs for him – so he could be educated on the right type of music – and fallen asleep, it led to Felix meeting Luka for the first time. Adrien hadn’t been looking for it but it sounded like Felix approved and that gave him a feeling of happiness.
“Maybe.”
Felix let out a hum before heading to the stairs. He was happy he didn’t say anything more. Adrien wasn’t sure what he’d say anyway.
He collapsed onto his bed, ready to fall asleep again. He couldn’t though, because of a certain item. Luka’s iPod. He was never seen without it. Luka said the silence made him itch, like everything was too much to handle. So the thing that helped him was never far out of reach. It turned on, still a half full battery available. There were many playlists, the names making no sense, but one caught his attention.
ADRIEN
He knew sneaking around on it wasn’t the best idea but…he couldn’t help himself. He pressed the center button and the list of songs that appeared where a mash of a lot of things. Things that looked very familiar. Because they were all the songs he and Luka ever talked about. Luka had a playlist of all the songs they talked about and it was a lot.
He wanted to know if the way he felt was the same. If he was making things up or wishing too hard. He wanted answers. It took all of his energy to not go running after Luka and asking. He fell asleep after several minutes of slowly scrolling through the list of songs Luka had under his name.
                                                 _______________
Adrien climbed out of the car, watching as Gorilla pulled out his phone. He meant to leave the house earlier. He distracted himself with homework before he went to ask Gorilla to take him to Luka’s house, when he was interrupted by a mighty crash from the kitchen. Felix was attempting to cook. Adrien stayed back to help and eat with him before he left.
He crossed the gangplank onto the deck of the house boat. The deck was empty, though there seemed to be music playing in the area above. He didn’t remember the whole look of it from the last time he was here, but he was sure that was a sitting area. He knocked on the door below the deck, which swung open. Rose, Luka’s sister’s girlfriend, let out a shriek when she saw who was standing on the other side.
“Adrien! What are you doing here?”
“Is that Adrien Agreste?” A girl with dreadlocks, some strands of different colours, looked at him in awe. There was another girl with red hair and glasses and another with a baseball cap and Juleka. They were all staring at him.
“Adrien is my friend! Oh, come in!” He was yanked inside where music seemed to be echoing on the walls and the living room was a mess. “We’re having a fashion show sleepover. You have to stay and help us with our looks.”
“Oh, well, you see.”
“Rose, are you ready yet? I have…” Luka walked in with a DSLR camera around his neck. “A show to plan? Adrien, what are you doing here?”
“He’s here to help us with our looks.” Rose said, pulling Adrien further into the house. He sent a pleading look to Luka who shrugged. He had a feeling that telling Rose ‘no’ was a hard thing. He was dragged to Juleka’s room, though Luka’s was separated with a curtain that was currently pushed back. Juleka’s taste in decorating was darker than her brother’s, but a lot of things seemed to be similar, such as the guitar and bass sitting in their stands and the posters of Jagged Stone. Some pictures didn’t really fit Juleka’s theme. Pictures of models, both male and female.
“Look, these are you.” Pictures from his father’s brand, from cologne ads, from sporting wear, even from that department store ad, with the tux for the dance, the perfect outfit and hair after fencing, the perfect outfit to study in the library. “I loved that ad so much and its story. You were so cool. You were like…”
“The guy who had everything.”
“Exactly!”
“Rose, come on. I have a show to plan. Are we going to do this or not?” Luka said, finally pulling her attention away.
“Alright, alright. Who has the order lists?”
The girls started to leave the area, but not before the one in the baseball cap turned and quickly slapped the back of Luka’s butt, causing them all to burst into laughter as he let out a startled yelp. They quickly disappeared when he turned to glare at them. Adrien couldn’t help but stifle his laughter. It had been a high pitch squeak.
“Not a word out of you,” Luka ordered upon seeing him laugh.
“Course not. Here, I wanted to give this back to you,” he said, handing over the jacket.
“Oh, I could have waited until Tuesday to get this.”
“I know. I’m just sure you couldn’t wait for this.” He pulled out Luka’s iPod from one of the pockets, watching his face light up.
“Oh I would so miss this! Thank you.”
“I had a feeling you’d flip all of Paris to try and find it.”
“Very true. So what commercial was Rose talking about?”
Adrien pointed to the pictures from the different scenes of the ad. “It was from the department store for their back to school campaign. I’m the guy who has everything. Don’t feel like it though.”
“Doesn’t really look like you.”
Adrien looked over at him feeling a little insulted. “You don’t have to like it.”
“No, I mean, I’m looking at it and I see this picture-perfect person and think, ‘that’s not my Adrien’. It just doesn’t look like the real you.”
Before Adrien could ask him who the real Adrien was, Rose called from what sounded like above deck. Luka looked pained as he turned, heading towards the stairs.
“This is gonna end in tears. Just you watch.”
It took a while but it turned out Luka was right. Adrien had been in his corner of the sitting area on the deck above surrounded by mountains of makeup when one of the girls, Mylène, burst into tears.
“I don’t want to do this outfit anymore! I’m always in this one.” It was a beachy outfit; which Adrien guessed her dreads played a part in. Everyone else had changed a good number of times, but Mylène always seemed to be in different versions of the same outfit.
He quickly swooped in and took Mylène downstairs. She directed him to the clothes she brought over and it took a bit of prodding to find an outfit. He sent her off to the bathroom while he rooted through the pile of shoes to find a pair that would fit her. He looked up to see Luka leaning against the post that acted as the centre between his and Juleka’s rooms.
“You’re good at this,” he said, smiling down at Adrien.
“Modelling does lead to tears. Just find something to distract them and give them lots of chocolate after. Works every time.” Adrien finally found the shoes he wanted and stood up to see Luka pointing the camera at him. Covering his face with his hand, he said, “No. I don’t like having my picture taken.”
“But you’re one of Paris’ biggest models.”
“I know. Trust me, getting cameras shoved in your face is not as glamorous as it seems.”
“Oh, come on. Let me at least show you what I see.”
Remembering what Luka had said earlier about the ad pictures not looking like ‘his Adrien’, he brought his hand down and relaxed his body. He felt the smallest smile come to his face as Luka brought the camera back up and clicked the shutter. He walked over, leaning close to Luka as he brought the picture up. The lighting wasn’t the greatest and in the mess of helping Rose, his hair and clothes were a bit messy, but…he understood what Luka was saying.
“This is the real you,” Luka said, his words just brushing Adrien’s cheek, that’s how close they were. “This is my Adrien.”
My Adrien. It wasn’t weirdly possessive. It was comforting and with every insane thing that was happening in his life, to be picked by someone just for being himself, that made his heart happy.
Maybe that’s why when he looked up and saw Luka staring at him, eyes moving down to his lips, he kissed him. He felt Luka kiss back. Adrien wanted to grab hold of him because the kiss made him feel weak in the knees, it felt that good, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
“How do I look?”
The two sprang apart, Luka hitting his head on the post. Mylène looked worried and a bit confused, but thankfully it looked like she hadn’t seen.
“Are you ok?” she asked.
“Luka! We’re ready for group shots!” Rose called from above deck.
“He’s all good. Here, put them on quickly,” Adrien said, handing her the shoes and pushing her towards the stairs. He could tell she was confused, but thankfully she didn’t ask.
They didn’t get a chance to be alone until the photoshoot was done and Luka had gotten the call that his mom would be home soon and the house was a mess. Luka walked Adrien to the gangplank, still waving off his offers to help clean up.
“Don’t worry about it. The girls will take care of most of it. Thanks again for bringing my iPod.”
“Of course.” Adrien hesitated, wanting to ask if the kiss was a fluke or if it was real when he realised Luka was moving closer to him, gently pulling his fidgeting fingers apart and linking them with his own.
“This ok?”
“Yeah. Perfect.”
Luka was leaning down and Adrien started to go up on his toes when they heard Rose. She came bounding over with pictures in her hand. The one that Luka took of him was on top.
“Here, so you can decorate your wall.”
When she finally went back below deck, Adrien gave Luka the picture he took of him. “That way you always remember what I look like. I might be coming to school in a few makeup looks next week.”
“Bet you’ll still look amazing as usual. I’m very tempted to test my luck a third time, but I can wait. Would you be ok if I came and picked you up on Tuesday?”
Adrien nodded, taking everything in him not to pull Luka in for a kiss, no matter who was watching.
“Awesome. I’ll see you then.”
Adrien had to bite down his smile when he eventually pulled himself away and got into the car. Kissing his rock should make him afraid of messing things up, but how could he when everything felt so right? And if Luka came to get him for school on Tuesday morning and Adrien noticed that his lanyard that had his student ID on it also had the picture of Adrien, well. How was he supposed to argue with that?

DAY 5: First times
First time worrying
"I almost got it!"
Brock, Pikachu and Misty all looked on worried when Ash was climbing a high tree to grab pokeball he accidentally somehow threw up there.
"Ash, get down!" Brock yelled. "I can use Onyx to grab it! Don't do it!"
"Don't! I got this!" Ash yelled.
Misty furrowed her eyebrows. This idiot boy...he was going to get himself...hurt.
Ash grabbed the pokeball, but his foot slipped.
They all gasped as Ash fell down from the tree. He fell from meters high into a bush.
"Ash!" Misty and Brock yelled and they ran towards him to see if he was okay.
"Are you hurt?" Brock helped him up.
"N-nah..." Ash looked at the pokeball in his hand. "I got charizard...plus, the bush broke my fall!"
"You idiot!" Misty suddenly screamed.
"What?" Ash said.
"You were almost dead! Don't you know how worried I was..."
"You were worried?" Ash quirked his eyebrow. "And here I thought you hated me."
"Just...shut up!"
Misty turned around and stomped away. Ash tilted his head.
What was her problem?
_______________________________________________________________________
First time holding hands
Misty was nervous. And she normally wasn't.
But today was their first date. She and Ash had finally confessed to each other and today the teen both had some free time and decided to spend the day together.
They went to the amusement park. There they went on different rides and had fun like friends would...but now they weren't supposed to be friends anymore. According to Misty's research from the girl magazine, Ash should be head over heels by now.
And she had tried everything according to the rules. She tried to crack some jokes, which Ash found funny, fluttered with her eyes, which he didn't notice and tried to get him on one of the more romantic rides, which he refused.
They sat down on a bench after going on a rollercoaster.
Misty glanced down at his hand. Now she had to grab his hand as her last resort. If that didn't work, then it would all be in vain.
"I'm done..." Ash sighed. "Really, Mist, are there even any rides left?"
He saw how Misty was staring at his hand in a daze.
"Misty?"
Misty looked at him and smiled a little.
"Ah, right! Sorry, what were you saying?"
"I was...are you okay?"
Misty nodded. "Yeah, sorry for dozing off."
"No problem."
Ash grabbed her hand. Misty gasped and a blush covered her cheeks. She looked at Ash who blushed as well.
"Is there any ride you want to go on again?" He asked, acting as if this was the most normal thing for him to do.
"No...how about we go grab something to eat? Or...maybe you can let go of my hand?"
Ash blinked and stared at her. "You don't like it?"
"No...it's..." Misty gave his hand a squeeze. "...just that I like it a bit too much. Plus, this is so unlike you!"
"What?! I can be romantic!"
"Really?" Misty rolled her eyes. "Because I have been giving you signals the entire time!"
"So that's why you were being weird."
"Weird?"
"Yeah." Ash said. "Besides the good jokes, you were smiling and blinking really weird. I was about to take you to a hospital."
"Then...why did you grab my hand?" Misty asked.
"I might have read it somewhere. Plus, I like you, so I'm allowed to hold your hand!"
Misty laughed. "Of course!"
Ash laughed too. "Good! Then, let's eat!"
"Is that all you can think about?"
"Not only."
Ash blushed and looked at her with a loving gaze. A gaze that told Misty that everything was going to be fine with their relationship.
_______________________________________________________________________
First time for 'it'
(A little bit nsfw, if you're uncomfortable, just skip this part)
Their lips crashed against each other. They fell down onto the mattress with a loud thud.
Misty moaned as Ash kissed her neck. After a few years of dating she was finally ready. Yes, she was already 19 and she would have wanted to do it earlier, but there was never a right time. Plus, Ash was gone for at least a year, traveling again.
"Misty..." Ash breathed out. His hand moved down and Misty moaned a little again.
"Ash..." She whispered. "You know that this is my first time..."
Ash stopped kissing her neck. He looked at her with a grin. Misty felt her heart explode from the way he always smiled at her. Ash put his hand against her and gently rubbed it.
"Don't worry. It's my first time too."
First time proposing
"Will you marry me?"
It was a cold and stormy night. After a day at the beach, Ash and Misty went back home when it started to rain. However, they managed to get lost and had to take shelter in a nearby cave.
"Excuse me?" Misty said. It was as if she just heard Ash ask if she wanted to marry him.
Ash pulled something out of his bag. It was a small wooden box. He opened it up to reveal a bright, shining ring.
He went down on one knee and said, this time more loudly; "Will you marry me, Misty Waterflower?"
"Ash..."
"I wanted to do it on the beach, but the weather kinda ruined it for me."
"Does it matter? Even if you asked me at the end of the world, you should know my answer."
Ash stood up. "And that is...?"
"Yes. A thousand times, yes."
"Really?! Yes!"
Ash grabbed her waist and twirled her around. Misty laughed.
They kissed and kissed and stopped when Ash reminded himself that he had to put the ring on her finger.
And that's how they got engaged in a cave. Unlike most people.
_______________________________________________________________________
First time pregnant
Misty groaned.
She had a beergut. That was it. Her once toned body now had a huge gut. And all because her husband couldn't keep it in his pants.
Okay, it wasn't his fault.
But, did she want children?!
Yes.
Okay, but...
"Misty!"
Ash walked into the living room. He was holding two bags from the snackbar. His hair was a mess and with the new beard he looked a bit older than he was.
Misty looked away from the tv. She sat up from the couch and rubbed her back.
"With extra fries?" Misty asked Ash.
Ash nodded. "Yep. Just like you asked. Oh and I made sure to ask the neighbours to keep the noise down, I got Casey to help out at the gym, cleaned the pools, took Gyarados out to the lake where he had his fun and I updated your computer! Oh and..."
Misty gave him a sudden, but sweet kiss.
She pulled away with a blush on her face. "Where would I be without you?"
"Single."
"Oh ha-ha." Misty rolled her eyes. "But really...thank you. I love you."
"I love you too."
_______________________________________________________________________
First time falling in love
"Oh! Oh! Hey, I got a bite! Oh, wow, I really think this could really be a big one!"
It was a nice day. Misty Waterflower had just embarked on her adventure to become a water pokemon master! She was going to show her sister that she was talented too!
She was out fishing. At first nothing much happened, as it was very lonely and quiet, but suddenly she got something. So she pulled her line back, hoping to catch something big. But instead it was a boy and his Pikachu.
"Nah, it's just a kid. Oh and a Pokémon. Oh, are you ok?"
Misty jumped down and looked at the pokemon in the boy's arms. It looked badly injured.
"Yeah, I'm ok." The boy said.
"Not you!"
Misty gave him a slap. The boy wanted to respond, but before he could complain Misty talked further.
"Look what you done to that poor little thing. Is it breathing?"
The boy nodded slowly. "I, I... I think so."
Misty looked at the boy. He had raven black hair and brown eyes. He seemed genuinely worried for his Pikachu. Maybe he was a good guy after all...but was what it that Daisy always said? Good guys finish last or something?
Whatever.
Misty sighed and said: "Well, just dont sit there, it need a doctor right away. There's a medical center not to far from here. You've got to get moving now!"
"You mean a hospital?"
Misty rolled her eyes. "Yes, for Pokémon."
"Ok, can you tell me, which way do I go?"
Misty pointed down the bike road. She knew the nearest center because one day ago she had just cycled past it on her brand new bike.
"That way." Misty said.
The boy suddenly looked over his shoulder and back. His eyes were frantic.
"They're coming back! Run!"
They?
Misty wanted to ask him, but the boy ran to her bike, put his Pikachu in the bike's basket and jumped on.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Misty yelled.
"I'm borrowing this!"
"Wait, hey, that's my bike!"
The boy looked over his shoulder as he started to cycle away and yelled: "I'll give it back someday!"
Misty planted her hands on her hips.
"Oh you..."
She smiled a little. She didn't knew why, but her heart was pounding a bit faster than usual. That boy was a whole lot different than the boys from her old school. He was quick thinking and a lot more arrogant.
Maybe this journey wouldn't be so lonely.

Beach Volleyball (Atsumu’s Daughter)
@guardiansofasgard Hi! Can i request a Haikyuu one shot where the reader is Atsumu’s 10 year old daughter 😊
Of course! This is actually my third time writing it because it got deleted more then once -.- Hope you enjoy it! If anyone has a one shot they want me to write I’m going to be writing all night! ~ Kai
Atsumu walked onto the hot sand, watching his teammates throw balls in the hot summer sun. There were very few occasions the MSBY Black Jackals so they took advantage of it whenever they could. They decided to take a relaxing day at the beach and play a few games.
You were thrilled that your dad finally decided to let you join him in his work, he was always too busy to spend time with you. You were sitting under an umbrella next to Sakusa. “So, your one of my dad’s friends?” You said cautiously. Why was he wearing a face mask to the beach?
“Yeah, you look exactly like Atusmu its almost chilling.”
“Thank you?”
About 5 minutes later you get engulfed into a big hug from behind. It was Natsu, Hinata’s little sister. “What’s up Y/N!! ITS BEEN FOREVER! I haven’t seen you in like- 4 years!”
“Oh my god hii!! You got so big!” You smiled, Natsu had to be at least high school age by now.
Hinata was not far behind her, all the boys started to set up the nets for a game while you and Natsu started to catch up.
“All right, let’s start to form the teams-” Atusmu said.
“Do I get to play this time Dad!”
Atsumu sighed, “You know we are professionals right? I don’t think you would be able to keep up with us.”
“Says the one who couldn’t even serve ‘till year 2 of high school…”
“Hey! Watch your mouth Y/N” You could tell he was about to smile. You definitely got his attitude.
“Atsumu! Stop bickering with your daughter and come play!” Hinata yelled. “And just let Y/N play when is she ever going to learn how to play if you dont let her!”
“FINE!” He pouted. “Sorry Y/N, I didn’t mean to yell at you, you’ll be on my team alright?”
You nodded and followed him over to the court. There were four people on each team, on team 1 there was Atsumu, Bokuto, Y/N and Sakusa. On team 2, there was Hinata, Natsu, Inunaki, and Meian.
Natsu was the first to serve, she threw the ball in the air and jumped into a beautiful jump serve. The ball hit hard against the sand on the other side. Hinata smiled, “THATS MY SISTER! I KNEW YOU WOULD BE GREAT SOMEDAY!”
Natsu was able to rack up 4 more points before Bokuto was able to hit the ball back over. As the game progressed, you started to get even more nervous. They really are professionals, how am I ever going to be able to play with them? Are they going to be mad if I mess up?
Of course in the midst of your panic, you were up to serve. The ball shook i your hands, you starred at it then back at your father. “I-I only know how to serve underhand…I think you should just skip me.”
“That’s alright! As long as it makes it over the net.” Atsumu smiled.
Ok…No pressure at all. You thought,  just have to get it over the net and you’ll be fine.
You held your hand out with the ball you hit it as hard as you could with your other hand. Everything seemed to move into slow motion as the ball shot up into the air and slowly curved to hit Kiyoomi in the back of the head. You stood there frozen as he turned towards you, glaring.
His whole body shook as he walked past you back to his backpack, grabbing a can of Lysol and spraying his head.
“Sakusa- I’m sorry.” You tried. His stare was almost deafening.
“Kiyoomi, don’t.” Atsumu stared right back at him.
“Its fine. I’m the worst possible person you could’ve hit but its fine.”
“I’m really sorry.” You started to walk back towards the car.
“Y/N! Wait!” Atsumu called.
Atsumu and Hinata came running towards you. You really did it this time Y/N. Why did you have to be so stupid. Of course you had to hit the germaphobe. Dad even warned me about him. Dad’s never going to talk to me again.
Atsumu grabbed your arm, turning you around to face him. “Hey, it’s ok, no ones mad.”
Your eyes started to pool with tears, “Aren’t you mad? I messed up.”
Atsumu frowned, “Why would I be mad?” He bent down to your level. “Volleyball is a sport about learning, you cant be amazing from the beginning. Hell, like you said earlier, I couldn’t even serve until my 2nd year of high school. I promise Sakusa is not mad at you.”
“Yeah!” Hinata said. “On my first big game of high school I hit kagayama in the back of the head with a ball.”
“Kagayama? How are you not dead?”
“See? If he’s mad at you I will kick his ass for you.” Atsumu smiled.
“Thanks Dad.” You hugged him.
He held you close. “Anytime sweetheart.”
Everyone returned back to the game with no hard feelings. The games was 1-1 and the last set was end game. Y/N’s team was at match point. One more point and we win.
“Go Y/N! Its your turn to serve!”
You shakily took the ball into your hand and threw it up into the air. Maybe an overhand serve would work. Your hand hit the ball with impossible force and flew over the net. Natsu got it back up in the air and Shoyo spiked it. You got in front of the ball and saved it with your face and fell to the ground. The ball made it back over to the other side, winning the game.
“Oh my god Y/N are you ok?” Sakusa asked. He ran over and reluctantly laid a hand on your shoulder.
You held your nose as it dripped blood and smiled. “WE WON!!- ow..”
Atsumu laughed and took off his shirt and gave it to you. “Good job sweet heart.” He helped you up.
“Now you can say you’re a real volleyball player!” Bokuto smiled.
“Yeah! See Dad! I told you I could do it!”
“You did. I’m proud of you!”
“ICE CREAM ON ME EVERYONE!” You yelled.
“Where’d you get the money?” Atsumu asked.
“...ICE CREAM ON MY DAD!”
“HEY!”
Sorry if this was rushed! Like I said, this is my third rewrite of this because my computer crashed the first time... I hope you still like it though. If anyone has any other story ideas I will gladly write them.

Monday
You had to get ready, but you were still in bed. It was one of those days you wanted to stay in bed and do nothing. You weren’t feeling ok; you assumed that it was because you missed him, your dearest boyfriend. Today marked the second week since he left for work. It was supposedly to take just a couple of day, but it didn’t go as planned because he hasn’t come back yet.
You felt alone, empty. Chris wasn’t there with you, neither Dodger; Chris insisted on took him in with his sister, so you didn’t have to worry about him. You took a deep breath and decided to get up and get ready for the day.
Once on the kitchen, you were having just a tea, not coffee today, you weren’t in the best mood and the caffeine didn’t help you. You were lost in thought about all you had to do for the day when your buzzing phone brought you back to reality.
Good morning doll. Counting the days to be back with you.
I wish you a beautiful day
Love you
Chris
Suddenly a smile appeared on your face, and felt love, just pure love. Chris knew how sad and difficult is for you to be alone for so long. You decided to text a quick response and then get ready for work.
Hello beautiful boy. I can't wait to have you with me.
Have a beautiful week.
Love you more
Y/N
The day at work started pretty good for your liking, but it ended up bad and it was just Monday. Someone did something wrong on important papers and your boss had to deal it with you. Being part of a group of assistants was difficult, you have to deal with the bad mood and yelling from the bosses and people who believed had a superior position than yours. You were really stressed, you needed a break to keep going but it was the beginning of the week and you still had the rest of the week ahead. You finished working around 4:30 pm and had to get ready for your classes. You’re on your third year of college with a major in Art History, your current job it doesn’t have any connection with what you’re studying but it helps the survival.
You have a few delayed papers, a few with close deadlines but still you have to prepare two final exams. The stress was starting to kick in.
Tuesday
The same emptiness you felt yesterday today was there. You had barely slept; you stayed awake doing some papers and making flashcards to study. Last night after coming back from school, you started to cry, you were overwhelmed, and you needed Chris by your side. You had texted him but you put it aside afterwards because you didn’t want any distractions. You were starving; you didn’t have dinner yesterday, so you got up and went to have breakfast. You took the computer with you so you could update more papers. You had to checked the phone, probably some of the teachers had emailed you because you were late and the grades were coming down. You had a few texts from Chris, of course.
Hi love! I’m sorry I didn’t answer back, I was busy.
How did your day go? I really miss you
Chris
 Babe, is everything alright?
Pls answer me
Chris
I hope you rest well. I can’t wait to see you
Sweet Dreams, good night, I love you
Chris
You felt really bad because he wanted to talk to you, but you needed to update some of your essays. Your work was taking you more time than you had expected and because of that you were getting behind in the classes. You finished breakfast, got ready and went to work.
At lunch break, you decided to text Chris back and tell him what was going on.
Hi honey! How are you? Sorry I didn’t answer I was catching up with homework
I hope your day it's better than mine :(
I really miss you. Can’t wait to see you
Love you
Y/N
So far the day was stressful, but manageable. You had tons of work, and probably you had to stay extra hours to finish some papers that had to be delivered the following day. After the break you started to work on those papers when you got a phone call.
-Hello –I say not seeing who was calling
-Hi love –Chris said –How are you?
-Lost in work, you? –I say
-Missing you –he says
-I miss you too –I say –Look honey, I really appreciate you calling, but I have to finish this, and I’m already late with it –I mention with a sad tone
-It’s okay doll. I wanted to check on you actually –he says –but I’ll call you later
-I’m good, don’t worry –I say
-Ok. I love you –He says upset
-Love you too. Bye –I say and hang up
If you thought that your day was going to get better after that call, you were wrong. A really strong headache hit you and made you feel dizzy, probably it was because the late night working. You decided to take an aspirin, ignore the pain and keep working.
You had to stay almost four hours after work, your headache never left and you had missed the classes of the day. You wanted to get home and get into bed and wake up on the weekend. You decided to send Chris a quick text because he had promised you to call.
Hi love! I know you wanted to talk, but I’m leaving work right now and I have to finish an essay for tomorrow and I’ll probably ignore my phone.
I’m really really sorry
Talk to you tomorrow. I promise
Love you
Y/N
Once you got home, you took off your clothes, put some pjs and started the essays which were due date tomorrow and you haven’t started yet. It was going to be a long night with lots of coffee.
The pounding headache you had earlier got really worse, your eyes were watering making it really difficult to read and your body was really sore. It was the fifth cup of coffee when you got a text from your mom
Hello Y/N! I hope you remember our dinner tomorrow
It’s been a while since the last meeting.
I really miss you
Mom
As soon as you saw who texted you, you rolled your eyes. You’ve totally forgot the dinner with your mom, you were doing too many things but remember it wasn’t, but you couldn’t cancel it. It was the only time you were able to see her during the week.
Hi mom! I’ll be there, don’t worry
I miss you too
Y/N
When you send it the message, you realized it that was almost 6 AM and you haven’t finished your essay yet. You stop doing it and went to take a shower and then start the new day.
Wednesday
After your late night work and your shower, you still felt tired and sore. You prepared your breakfast and went to finish your essay. Luckily you were able to finish it just in time to go to work. You send a quick text to your mom and Chris and started your day.
Your day at the office went pretty well. Some stressful moments, but besides that, everything was normal. You were feeling really bad, being all night awake wasn’t your best decision but it was worthy, your essay was perfect, as your teacher said, and you were proud. You needed to go home and crash your bed; unfortunately you had dinner with your mom. You felt feverish but you didn’t pay much attention, probably was the lack of sleeping.
Hello my love! How’s your dinner with your ma going?
The producers told me that probably I’ll be back home by the weekend. I can’t wait
I love you
Chris
Your face lighted up immediately. It was the middle of the week, and Chris was coming back home. Nothing could ruin your day.
Dinner with your mom went terrible. She’d complaint about everything you have been doing since you moved on your own. Everything got worse when she started to criticize your body and your diet; and when she compared you to your sister you snapped. You had to kick her out of your house before something bad happened. Chris promised you to call, but you weren’t in the mood, not after what happened with your mom, so you turned off your phone, drank a beer and then you went to sleep. You deserved it.
 Thursday
Your alarm started to sound pretty loud, you got up and had to run to your bathroom, it wasn’t the cleverest idea to drink a beer before bed. Once you emptied your stomach, you laid on the cold floor. Today you had to stay in, so you emailed your boss calling in a sick day. You went back to bed and you fell asleep immediately. You woke up a few hours later feeling a little bit better from your stomach. You went to the kitchen; you prepared something light to eat and went back to bed. It was the perfect opportunity to finish all your essays you hadn’t hand in yet.
Some hours later, you were emptying your stomach on the bathroom again; you probably had caught a bug during the week. You should tell Chris about it, he shouldn’t get sick.
You remembered that you’d turned it off the night before, probably you had several messages and missed calls, but you didn’t care. You didn’t want to deal with anything. Indeed, you had several phone calls from your mom and a bunch of texts saying she was sorry and she never meant to tell you such things. Before calling her you texted to Chris quickly to give him an update on your day and your health as well
Hi love! That’s great news! Sorry I didn’t answer back sooner, I was busy…
I don’t think you should come directly from the airport, I think I caught a bug, cause I haven’t been feeling well for a few days.
I hope your day is going good.
I miss you
Y/N
And then you called your mom. She picked up after the first ring
-Y/N! Darling, are you ok? –she asks almost screaming
-Yeah, I forgot to turn on my phone –I say avoiding my health
-I’m sorry about last night, I shouldn’t have told you such horrible things –she says
-But still, you did it –I say –Look, I know you don’t like the way I’m living, but it’s MY life –I say
-I know sweetie, but I still feel bad about how everything ended –she told me.
“She was really excusing herself” you thought but your stomach had other plans
-I’m sorry mom –you say –I’ve got to go. We’ll talk later –I say and hung up
You run to your bathroom, lucky for you, you made it. You really needed Chris next to you. You heard your phone ringing, probably it was him calling you, but you didn’t have the energy to get up, you were really dizzy and you started to see black dots, and then everything went black. This wasn’t good.
You didn’t know how long you were passed out, but when you woke up, you felt terrible. You checked your temperature, the thermometer marked 100.4°; with all your energy you got up, and went back to bed to rest, you didn’t have enough energy to take anything or even cook something.
 Friday
You don’t know when exactly you woke up, you emailed to your job calling in sick again. You didn’t realize what time it was or how long you were asleep. The only thought in your mind was that you needed to clean the house, Chris was coming tomorrow and everything was a mess, even though you warned him about being sick you knew he was going to come either way. You had to take your temp again; you were shivering, probably because it went up. Certainly it did, it was 102.2°; you knew it was bad, so you dragged yourself from bed and decided to run a bath, which was going to help.
After your bath, you went to the kitchen and prepared just a tea, and grabbed two crackers, you didn’t want to push your stomach, you were still weak; and you went back to bed.
You had a few emails from school, from work and some texts from your mom and Chris. When you were about to texted Chris back he called you.
-Hello my love –he says with his calming voice
-Hi –you answer
-How are you feeling?
-Really bad –you say pouting
-I’m sorry doll. Do you want me to call someone to take care of you?
-Don’t worry hun, I’m better now. With some rest I’ll recover –you assure him
-I’m calling you because I’m about to head to the airport so, I’ll probably don’t answer my phone until tomorrow –you heard him smiling
-It’s ok love; I can’t wait to see you again –you say smiling as well
-Me too love. Me too. I’ve got to go –he says upset
-Safe travel, I love you –you say
-Love you too. Bye –he says and hung up
You were crying already, you didn’t know why, probably was the fever. You finished your tea; you put some cozy clothes and went to the kitchen to start cleaning everything.
You finished cleaning pretty late so you took another tea and some crackers for dinner. You weren’t in the mood for food and neither your stomach. Once you finished your tea, you went to your room to clean it, when a wave of nausea hit you and you had to run to the bathroom again. You lay on the cold floor; it was a beautiful sensation against your heated skin. With all your strength you grabbed the thermometer and took your temp again, because you were pretty hot. You were running a temp of 103.1°. You needed help, you tried to get up from the floor so you could go to grab your phone, but you fainted before getting up.
Saturday
Chris arrived at dawn; he found the house clean although you told him you were sick. He noticed there was no dinner leftover, “have you been eating?” he thought to himself, he was worried
-I’m home baby –he calls but there’s no response
-Y/N? –he calls you a little louder
He thought that you might be sleeping, but his heart broke when he find you. He lifted you from the floor and put you in bed. He went to the kitchen, grabbing a bowl and pouring some cold water, grabbed a washcloth, a glass of juice and some ibuprofen and came back to the room.
When you woke up, you realized that you were on the bed, “did you make it to the bed?” you thought when you saw that Chris entering your room.
-Hey! You are awake –he says and you could barely smile
-When did you arrive? –you question
-Not long ago, I was worried –he admits -I found you on the floor –he sits next to you on the bed pulling the tray on the nightstand
-Oh –you say and you look your hands
-What is it love? -he asks caressing your cheek
-I think I fainted in the bathroom –you admit
Chris didn’t say anything; he went to the bathroom and picked up the thermometer. He came from the bathroom with a worried face
-Open –he commands
You did what he had told you and waited. He never stopped caressing your cheek. You were falling asleep when he woke you up
-Don’t fall asleep sweetie, I know you’re tired, but please, hang on –he sounded worried - Did you eat something? –he asked you but you just shake your head and the thermometer beeped
-104° .How high was the last time you checked it? -he asks you
-103.1° –you says
-We have to break this before it gets worse. How many times did you faint? –he was really worried
-Two times, I think. I don’t really know actually –you say disappointed
-When was the last time that you eat something solid? –he asks concerned
-On Wednesday, with my mom –I say –Probably that’s why I fainted the first time –I explained
-Don’t worry, doll. I’ll take care of you –he says caressing your face.

From Now | Han Jisung
Tumblr media
Summary: “I’ll cut to the chase, I waited for a while, how about you? // “From now on, you and me, Let’s start something, you and me, yeah” (Inspired by VeriVery’s song, From Now)
[Jisung x Reader] [College AU] [WC: approx. 3.4k words]
Genre: Fluff
A/N: This is a two-birds-one-stone kind of fic hehe. This is a personal fic that I was supposed to work on even before Scintilla, then I decided to combine it with a prompt from the 50 Kisses Challenge. This is prompt #36 (starting with eskimo kisses before moving on to soft kisses).
Tumblr media
A few months earlier
“I don’t see why I need to be your ‘muse’, Lix.” you chuckled, clutching Felix’s arm as you both walked.
Your friend smiled, laughing brightly, “Ah, come on y/n. Chan, Changbin, and Jisung needed a third party’s opinion on the song they were working on.”
“Aren’t you and the other boys third parties?” you pouted.
“Not really, no. Like, they needed someone who doesn’t…know them?” Felix laughed, shaking his head, “Ok, that doesn’t really make sense, but you get the point. Anyone who isn’t closely acquainted with them, there.”
“Oh, fine.” you scrunched your nose, following your friend to a retro-styled diner.
Once you both arrived, three other males perked their heads up, greeting you and Felix with bright smiles. “Over here, Lix.” the dark haired one waved.
“That’s Changbin.” Felix whispered, leading you to their table.
The curly haired one gave you a warm smile, offering for you to sit next to him, “Hey, I’m Chan. This is Jisung, and that’s Changbin.”
“Thanks for agreeing to hear our track out.” Changbin smiled after high-fiving Felix.
You smiled, suddenly feeling small, “Ah, it’s no problem.”
The other one – Jisung – leaned over the table and grinned brightly, “So you’re in the same class as Lix and Seungmin?”
“Yeah.” you nodded, “I’ve met Hyunjin a few times, but this is the first time I’m meeting you, even though we’re technically the same year.”
“Jisung spends most of his time with us in the music room.” Chan chuckled, propping his laptop up on the table.
After a few more minutes of small talk and eating, Chan decided to play the song they were working on for a class, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the melody. After the first listen, Chan asked for your opinions, and though shy and nervous, you managed to reply.
He and Changbin then went over the track again, discussing highly technical musical terms. Felix had joined them, and while Jisung was very much involved in the process, he did note that you were getting quite nervous and uneasy. He noticed how you fidgeted a lot, nervous eyes darting around the diner as if you couldn’t keep still. Knowing how you felt, he decided to engage in random conversations with you, cracking a few jokes from time to time.
By the end of the day, the two of you had bonded over a significant amount of time, laughing and walking back to the dorms as if you were both friends for decades. Perhaps it was the foreshadowing of something much more in the times to come.
Hey, what’re you doing, when you’re with me
Only focus on me, I’m only looking at you
Every day, I want you, being alone with you
“Y/n, y/n, y/n.”
You hum, eyes never leaving your laptop.
“Oh y/n, y/n, y/n.”
After typing in another lengthy sentence, you stop and turn your computer chair towards the voice, “Yes, Jisung?”
Jisung is splayed all over your bed, limbs crashing into your numerous stuffed toys. “Why are you ignoring me?” he pouts, shaking his head in disappointment.
You chuckle, “Sung, I told you I had to finish a paper for my literature class. Not my fault you insisted on hanging out even when I said I’d be busy.”
“Yeah, but I’d rather hang out with you than with the hyungs. They’re busy playing basketball or something.” Jisung smiles, moving around on your bed so that his head was now hanging upside down by the edge.
You raise an eyebrow, smirking in response, “I’ll be on this paper for another hour or so.”
“Y/n!” he continues to whine, “I’m your best friend! Please don’t ignore me, I’ll die.”
“No, you won’t.” you laugh, dragging your chair over. You gently cradle his head in your hands, urging him to either lie down properly or sit back up, “But you will get really dizzy if you stay with your head like this.”
Jisung hums, lifting his head from your hands, only to lay it back onto your lap. Despite the indifferent and unamused expression on your face, Jisung smiles up at you brightly. “Now you can’t get away.”
“What makes you think that?” you challenge.
Jisung smirks, “If you suddenly move back to your laptop, my head will hit the floor since it was initially supported by your legs.”
“Oh, you’re a genius.” you say with sarcasm, clapping your hands slowly.
“Thanks.” Jisung continues to lightly chuckle, warm eyes looking into yours with joy.
Maybe you were oblivious or just plain clueless, but Jisung had very deep feelings for you. He was often very obvious about it, but apparently, you never got the hint. Still, the male never wasted the opportunity to spend time with you, enjoying the company no matter where you were or what you were doing.
A silence stretches between the two of you as Jisung’s eyes remained glued to yours, pouring out whatever honey-like warmth they had into yours. You end up smiling, gingerly combing your fingers through his equally honey-like hair. “I really need to finish this paper, Sung.” you whisper, raising both eyebrows to stress your point.
Jisung pays no heed to your words as his own thoughts occupy his mind. Without much thought, his brain tells him to say a few bold words. With his voice is hushed, a contrast to his beaming smile, Jisung says, “Y/n, I like – ”
It’s subtle and easy to miss, but Jisung notices how your eyes shook with uneasiness the minute you heard the word ‘like’ come out of his mouth. Because of that, Jisung swallows the rest of his original sentence and opts to brush it off with a wink, “I like being with you, so we should probably order take-out, don’t you think?”
Puzzled, you clear your throat and nod in agreement, “Yeah, that sounds good. I’m actually really hungry.”
“Great, just great.” Jisung beams, lifting his head from your lap so he could sit up, “Absolutely perfect.”
Jisung’s behavior had puzzled you, but you chose not to say anything about it. His expression was unreadable, pretty much like how you’d try to decipher an unknown language in your linguistics class. You puff your cheeks out before offering him a gentle smile, “Perfect.”
Oh it’s nothing big
Oh but I do have something to tell you right now
You hated big crowds. Absolutely hated it.
Unfortunately, you were required to watch a play for the sake of “culture”, according to your professor. You had managed to drag Seungmin with you since this play was counted as extra credit for his other classes, and along with Seungmin came Felix. When Jisung heard you were watching with Seungmin and Felix, he decided to tag along, dragging Hyunjin with him.
So the five of you were now outside the theater, waiting for the doors to open so you could find your seats. “What’s the play about anyway?” Hyunjin asks, sipping on his iced tea.
“It’s slightly historical.” you explain, shrugging, “With…a twist, according to my professor.”
“Sounds fun.” Hyunjin grins.
Seungmin nods, using his phone to pass time. He chats with Felix and Jisung about what they think will happen throughout the play, and while you did want to join their little conversation, the amount of people waiting outside the theater had suddenly increased, making you feel tense.
One person bumps into you as he rushes to meet his friends, causing you to bump into Jisung. You clutch the back of his jacket as he steadies you, wide eyes looking at you with worry, “You ok?”
You nod, sighing in exhaustion, “Why are there so many people? It’s way too crowded in here, they should let us in already.”
Jisung chuckles, eyes now scanning the area, “I guess they’re still fixing everything to make sure we go inside in an orderly fashion.”
“Still.” you pout, making Jisung laugh in return.
He brings his hands up to your face, squishing your cheeks together as he coos, “Awww, is y/n getting tired? Impatient?”
You glare at the male much too cutely. “No, I’m just…yeah.” you release a deep breath, inching your way closer to Jisung in the slightest.
Jisung removes his hands from your face, only for one hand to gently grasp yours. He squeezes your hand reassuringly, offering you an easy-going smile, “You’re ok, y/n. It’s ok.”
“What?” you blink in confusion, tilting your head.
The male chuckles softly, swinging your intertwined hands back and forth. The way he looks at you right then has you melting into a mushy puddle. Jisung then speaks, “I don’t like big crowds too, remember? So I know how you’re feeling right now. But you don’t need to worry so much. The guys are with us.”
It takes you a few seconds to register Jisung’s words, and when you do, you give him a thankful smile. You squeeze his hand in return, humming in delight, “Thanks, Sungie.”
You and the boys wait for a few more minutes, talking and joking to distract yourselves and pass time. Hyunjin takes a few quick selfies with the whole group, laughing when you and Jisung want to try out one of the silly filters Lee Minho uses. “Hyung really likes this one.” Jisung laughs, selecting a very questionable yet adorable one.
“Oh, I can see why.” you burst out laughing, followed by Hyunjin.
Seungmin shakes his head, smiling, “Ah, trendsetter Minho.”
Another five minutes pass, and you’re each doing your own thing. Hyunjin and Felix watch a few dance videos on their phones while Seungmin talks to someone on the phone. You and Jisung continue to talk about what you’ve been up to recently since he hasn’t gotten to see you for a few days due to his academic requirements. “My term-end project is writing a story.” you laugh, “Sounds easy, but it really isn’t. My prof’s really meticulous.”
Jisung grins, “Yeah, writing isn’t as easy as everybody thinks.”
“I can imagine.” you shake your head, making a funny expression on your face.
“The amount of times Chan, Changbin and I have had writer’s block is insane.” Jisung recounts his memories, laughing as he remembers that one time he spent one week on a particular verse.
You grin, “I don’t even know what to write about yet.”
“How about…our wonderful yet sometimes crazy adventures?” Jisung jokes, gesturing to the other oblivious boys, “We can all be characters in that story. Just make me the most handsome.”
“Shouldn’t that be Chan then?” you tease, evilly smirking at your friend.
Jisung brings his hand to his chest, clutching his heart playfully, “That, my friend, is how you bruise my poor soul.”
“Drama queen.” you chuckle, gently shoving his hand away from his chest so you could gently rub the area where his heart rests. “All better?”
Jisung laughs, clasping his hand over yours in the smoothest manner possible. His touch is so gentle, it startles you for a second; you’re used to Jisung being hyper and energetic around you, so when his mannerisms today are much more gentle and borderline smooth, you feel your heart erratically jumping around. With his thumb brushing feather-light touches against the back of your hand, he smiles happily, “Much better, y/n.”
You don’t get to respond, much too preoccupied with staring into the male’s enchanting eyes. You find yourself getting lost in its warmth and inviting colors. For some reason, Jisung begins to lean closer as if your eyes were acting as a magnet that drew him closer. However, before anything else even happens, your hand that was on his chest stops him.
You splay your fingers across his chest, stopping his movements from progressing. As soon as Jisung halts, you clear your throat and look down shyly, “Jisung, what are you doing?”
“Oh.” Jisung finds himself smiling abashedly, “It’s nothing serious, but I do have something to tell you right now.”
“What’s that?” you ask, shifting your weight from one foot to the other.
A million questions and thoughts run through Jisung’s mind this instance, making him freeze on the spot and unable to answer your question. Was he really going to risk it now, or was he going to wait for another time? Like he always did?
He remains like that for a while, eyes glued to the ground as you anxiously wait for him to end the silence. When your hand slips from his chest, he snaps out of his daze and immediately grabs your hand, his grip tight enough to make sure you didn’t let go, but gentle enough to not startle you.
“Y/n,” he starts, eyes serious but ambiguous, “I might need to pee in the middle of the play.”
“Oh…oh.” you stutter, blinking rapidly as you’re unsure on how to respond. “That’s fine…I guess?”
Just then, the ushers announce that the audience could now enter the theater and find their seats accordingly. Seungmin turns to the group and gestures for you all to go inside the doors, “Shall we?”
Hyunjin leads the way with Seungmin and Felix happily following. You look up at Jisung who seems to have reverted back to his sunny and carefree self, squeezing your hand, “Let’s go, let’s go y/n!”
He doesn’t give you the chance to say anything, pulling you along inside the theater with his fingers still laced with yours.
I’ll cut to the chase
I waited for a while, how about you?
Don’t act like you didn’t hear me
Even if it’s embarrassing
Tell me, tell me
You’re my all, my all, my all
You’re mine mine mine mine
We’ve become something special, we’re together now, yeah
After the whole play incident, Jisung had somehow managed to avoid you. Why he was avoiding you, you didn’t know, but he surely was.
When the play finished, he suddenly left, saying Chan and Changbin needed him for a song, leaving Seungmin to take you back to the dorms.
Throughout the whole week, he didn’t meet with you, not even once. There were small conversations through text and whatnot, but no personal interactions. Hyunjin said it was because Jisung had a lot on his plate, but Felix and Seungmin knew otherwise. When you had asked Chan about it, the older male explained that Jisung needed “to sort a few things out, but he’ll be fine in no time”.
Leaving it at that, you went on with your routine as you normally would. But when Minho invited all his friends – including you – to a party, you knew Jisung would be there as well. And somehow, you’ve never felt more nervous in your entire life.
It was like when you met him the first time.
So here you were, all dressed up and bothered by the obnoxiously loud music. Yes, it was more bearable with Minho, Hyunjin and Felix having an impromptu dance battle with Changbin as the self-appointed MC and judge, but somehow, you still felt like partying wasn’t really your go-to activity.
After telling Seungmin that you’d just be outside to take a breath of fresh air, you found yourself standing below the starry sky, the chilly breeze keeping you company for the time being. After you hear Changbin yell at Minho for nearly kicking him in the face, you end up laughing to yourself in amusement.
“What’s so funny?”
Your smile disappears as you hear a familiar voice questioning you. You turn around to see that Jisung had walked out of the party, hands shoved into his jacket’s pockets. You shake your head, avoiding his gaze, “Nothing, really.”
He stands next to you, eyes silently studying you. Suddenly feeling vulnerable and small, you clear your throat to ask, “I didn’t see you the whole time. Were you…?”
“Oh, I was with Chan by the snacks.” Jisung laughs lightly.
“Come to think of it, I haven’t seen you all week.” you finally say, crossing your arms and shrugging.
The male sighs, scratching the back of his head sheepishly, “Ah, well…I had some things to deal with, but I’ve got it covered. It’s all good now.”
You hum, nodding your head slowly. Tearing your gaze away from him, you opt to stare straight ahead. “I thought you were…I don’t know, avoiding me or something.” you admit.
Jisung shakes his head, a mellow smile curling at his lips, “Please, no, y/n. It wasn’t anything like that.” He sighs, bringing his gaze up to the stars watching the two of you from above, “True, it had something to do with you, but I wasn’t exactly avoiding you. I was just, you know. Yeah.”
You look at the male beside you, studying his face; the way the moonlight put emphasis on his gentle yet handsome features, or how the stars were cloned into his eyes, or the way his honey hair was wisped around perfectly like well-calculated brush strokes. “What is it, Jisung?” you whisper, “Tell me, please. You’ve been acting all serious and saying you’d have something to say, but then you’d end up joking around and leaving me hanging like some movie cliffhanger.”
He then turns to you, eyes passionately searing into yours. “I’ll cut to the chase then, y/n.”
“Please.” you take a deep breath, bracing yourself for whatever he had to say.
Jisung sighs, reaching both hands out so that he could take ahold of yours. With his hands clasped around yours securely, he says with a low voice, “For some reason, whenever I wanted to say something, I’d change my mind and back out. But, I waited for a while, and now all I want to say is that I like you, y/n. I really, really do.”
You blink a few times before staring into blank space; your throat had gone desert-dry, words jamming in your throat as your brain tries to keep up with your frazzled thoughts. The silence is too much to bear, and Jisung begins to slowly pout, “Don’t act like you didn’t hear me, y/n. Please say something – anything.”
“I’m sorry.” you blurt out, biting your lip unconsciously, “It’s just…I never expected you of all people to actually feel the same.”
“Come again?” it’s Jisung’s turn to blink a few times.
You chuckle, scrunching your nose in response, “I like you too, silly. I have for a while. I just never said anything because I’m a nervous wreck. But…Chan did know about it.”
“Oh come on.” Jisung laughs heartily, letting go of one hand to pinch your cheek, “You, y/n, have made me a nervous wreck countless times.”
“Guess we had that in common.” you reply, grinning gleefully.
Jisung is filled with a surge of confidence as he pulls you closer to him, letting go of your hands only to have his arms around your waist. Your hands find their place on his shoulders as you giggle softly. “You’re my all, y/n.” Jisung whispers, gingerly rubbing his nose against yours a few times.
You bite back another giddy smile, stomach bursting with equally giddy butterflies. “I’m starting to think this is why Chan said you had a love song in the progress.”
“Oh, that.” Jisung winks, “Maybe, who knows? You’ll find out soon enough.”
“Hmm?” you hum, smirking at the male.
Jisung mirrors your expression, “Only my baby can hear the sneak peek for this track.”
“Oh, so am I your baby now?” you laugh happily, bringing your hands to cup his face.
He scrunches his nose in the same way you always did. “I’d like that. Do you?”
You smile in response, not even bothering to hide the way your eyes lit up with the brightest blaze ever. “Will this answer your question?”
From now on, you and me
Let’s start something, you and me, yeah
You give his nose one last gentle caress before you bring yourself closer, placing a chaste kiss onto his lips. Jisung responds in kind, lips attacking yours with soft and tender kisses. After one kiss lasts a second longer than the rest, you pull back just enough to peer into his eyes once again, “From now on, it’s you and me, yeah?”
“You and me.” Jisung smiles, leaning in to give you one more kiss.

Fanfic :: Icebreakers
Me? Publishing writing? It’s more likely than you think.
But yeah, holy crap, I finished something! That hasn’t happened in a long time, so please enjoy this zukka modern au fic where they’re both attending college now!
While taking online classes, Sokka and Zuko are paired up for icebreakers.
Preslash Sokka/Zuko, college AU

-=-=-=-
Sitting down in front of his laptop, wearing the sweatpants and tank top he slept in, this was not how Sokka expected to start his third year of college.
Well, he didn’t expect be forced online for the spring semester of his sophomore year as well, so technically that was a bigger surprise. At least this time, he was better prepared and built his schedule with distance learning in mind; a film course for his last elective, two engineering courses that weren’t reliant on lab, and two math courses. He tried not to think about all the labs he would have to take in the next year and a half, but for now, it was worth it to have a manageable schedule during a pandemic. For now, he was content to live off campus with Aang. He could’ve stayed home with his dad and Katara, but because Aang didn’t have any family to speak of, the executive decision was made for Sokka to keep his lease on the apartment with Aang and video call with his family at least once a week to make up for it.
It wasn’t that bad. They got one of the few places near campus that allowed dogs, so Aang’s shepherd dog, Appa, made the whole situation less dreary. Plus, his elective was right after his thermodynamics course, which gave his more of a reason to get up for the 9 o’clock engineering course.
So, here he was, not listening to the professor go on about “unprecedented times” and “academic honesty,” the same things he’d heard in his earlier class. Glancing at his own camera, he saw Aang not so sneakily open his door. He quickly muted and took out one of his earbuds.
"I'm ordering groceries,” Aang said quietly, “need anything else?"
"No, just whatever I put on the list."
"Got it!"
Aang closed the door and Sooka turned back to the computer, unmuting himself. The professor was about to move on to syllabus, when Sokka noticed a white blur out of the corner of his eye. He barely had time to think about the fact that Aang hadn’t fully closed the door, when he was knocked out of his chair with a crash.
"No, Appa, no! Down boy!" He said, fruitlessly trying to get Appa down off him. Appa paid no attention, continuously licking at him.
From the one earbud still in his ear, he registered his classmates laughing and the professor asking, "Are you alright?"
Appa was still not letting up so he just threw up a thumbs up in what he hoped was in frame of the webcam. "Yeah, sorry about that. My roommate’s dog hasn't seen me since March. Let me just-" with a flourish, he muted himself.
“Now Appa,” he said, gently holding the dog’s face in his hands, “if this incident haunts me all semester, I’m only getting you kitty treats for a month.”
Appa’s tongue lolled out of his mouth, completely oblivious.
“Alright now, up! Up!”
That seemed to do the trick, or it was the whistle from Aang in the other room. Either way, Appa graciously got off Sokka, trotting out the bedroom door much more slowly than he’d entered.
Sokka righted his chair and settled down and saw that even though the professor had moved on, everyone was still giggling at him. He took it in stride, taking a bit of a stretch.
The professor soldiered on, explaining how she found PDFs of all articles needed for the course (sweet), how she got them all copies of the movies on her website, and the schedule for the semester.
"Ok, now that the housekeeping is over, I'll put you all into breakout rooms for ice breakers. You’ll be in a room with one or two other students. Tell each other your name, major, why you're taking the class, and a fun fact about yourself. You'll introduce each other to the rest of the class in 5 minutes."
Sokka sighed, having hoped that at least one professor would forgo icebreakers considering the online format for the class. No dice. He clicked on the breakout room pop-up and anxiously waited for the other person to join the group, looking at his camera in the meantime. It was only then did he realize he’d been sitting in class for half an hour with his ponytail all askew. He tugged out the ponytail holder, shaking his hair out and pulling it back up so the sides he’d shaven himself were on display.
He looked up and a second person had silently joined the breakout room. Sokka immediately recognized him as one of the students who initially caught his eye. He wasn't conventionally attractive, with the massive scar covering the left side of his face, but he was certainly striking, with his floppy black hair and short-sleeve button-up shirt. It must’ve been a trick of the light in his room, but it looked like he was blushing.
“Oh, sorry, I didn’t see you there.”
“I-It’s okay,” the other guy said, seeming a little bit distracted.
Sokka could guess he wasn’t a fan of being online, so he continued, "Ok, then I'll start. I'm Sokka, junior mechanical engineering major. This is the last elective I need, but really it was the only one available that wasn't too advanced. My fun fact is I invented submarines."
That seemed to snap the other guy out of his reverie. "I... what?"
"Well I thought I did. I had these whole schematics for underwater cars with telescopes sticking out from the top to look for ships, but then my uncle Bato brought me a book about submarines for Christmas and I cried for two days."
The other guy was silent.
Sokka grinned, "I was 4."
"Oh! I thought you were just weird." He said, before clapping a hand over his mouth. "No wait! I mean-"
"Nah, don't sweat it dude, that's why I tell that story the way I do, for the punchline! Don’t worry about it.
“Oh, okay.”
“Your turn!"
"Uh, well my name is Zuko Sozin, I'm a senior English major with creative writing and theater minors. I’m also taking this for an elective and my fun fact is… I hate fun facts"
He snorted, "Fair, but come on, you gotta give me more than that."
"Um... I’ve trained with swords?”
Sokka gasped. “Do you have them with you?”
“Yes?”
“Show me!”
Zuko’s camera shuddered as he moved his laptop to point at to another wall of the room to show two swords with curved blades leaning against the wall.
“That’s so cool!”
“Thanks, they’re dao swords.”
And then Sokka leaned back and watched Zuko go into the history of dao swords, how they were traditionally used, and how long he’d been learning them. It was like any awkwardness had left Zuko’s body and was replaced with this confidence as he went on about this topic that he clearly loved. It was endearing. As someone who frequently would break out into an enthusiastic TedTalk about what he was doing in his engineering classes, Sokka loved hearing about other people’s passions.
Then, as Zuko was explaining how dual-wielding was much harder than using a single sword, the pop up informing them they would be put back in the main Zoom call in a minute appeared.
“Oh, wow,” Sokka said, “time sure does fly, huh?”
Zuko blinked, “What-? Oh, sorry, I totally took up all of the time.”
“It’s fine! It was really interesting!”
A small smile appeared on Zuko’s face, “Really?”
“Yeah, I only recently started training with a sword.”
That spar returned to Zuko’s eyes, “Oh really? What-”
But then the video cut out and was replaced with a loading screen. Sokka cursed under his breath as he was put back into the larger Zoom call with all the other students in it.
The professor’s video lit up, “Okay, settle down everyone. Now, which group wants to go first?”
While the first group went, Sokka made the split-second decision to start typing in the chat. After double and then triple checking that he was only messaging Zuko, he hit enter.
hey, i know this is kind of forward, but I can talk more about my sword training after class, if you want? here’s my number xxx-xxx-xxxx
Sokka tried to focus on the icebreakers after, but his eyes kept straying to the chat. He and Zuko got through their ice breakers just fine, and Sokka’s fun fact got equal amounts of confused faces and laughs, which was his intention.
And then he was caught up in taking notes on the professor’s explanation of the homework for the next class and then the Zoom call was over. It was only afterwards, as he was replacing the piece of tape over the camera, did he realize he never got a response from Zuko.
He tried to tamp down his disappointment. He had come off pretty strong, he shouldn’t take it personally.
He had a couple of hours until his next class, so he pulled his phone out of his pocket and unlocked it. He learned the hard way last semester to keep it on silent, and so he scrolled through Aang’s frantic apology texts over letting Appa get in the room, Hakoda wishing him luck for the semester, and Suki confirming their movie night after her afternoon class. He surprised that in between those texts, there was an unknown number from a couple of minutes ago.
Hey, Zuko here.
Sokka felt his heart stutter and a grin spread across his face as he typed out his reply.
hey! my last class of the day ends at 2, if you want to talk then?
He barely made it into the kitchen before he got a reply.
Sounds good.
Sokka couldn’t get rid of his grin as he typed out Zuko’s name into his contact.
Maybe there were some upsides to online classes.
