Rewatched ST ~ Aka to Shirō no Sousa File today. I just really love detective Japanese dramas and this one has been a favorite since I saw it. Watched the pilot, all 10 episodes, and the movie today. When I say I binge watch, I mean it.
Mirai Shida, Masataka Kubota, and Tatsuya Fujiwara are a couple of my favorite actors/actresses so seeing them plus just some tropes that I love is always a good time.

Redline (レッドライン)
Tumblr media
Summary: Joshua "JP" Punkhead (Takuya Kimura) is a racer who would do absolutely anything to win the Redline, even if it involves risking his own life.
It is very much a beautifully animated film with dubbing, subtitles, actors, sound design, and status as a cult classic.
Rating: 3.75/5

If I decide to burn instead of fading out
I still would like a chance for us to say goodbye
Over and over again
The stain of red that colors the pavement
Painted with blood of somebody you love
Is this the sacrifice for the broken
Losing the purest of what's in your heart

what anime directors are you paying attention to the work of?
there's a whole lot, really. not going to count older directors who are more established, except Tatsuya Oishi, who hasn't done anything in the industry since 2017 and i'm desperately awaiting his comeback
so as for an actual list,
Yuusuke Kawakami seems like he has an exciting career ahead of him. he hasn't done much, but his episode of Bisque Doll was standout, and while Wonder Egg Priority had many, many problems, action direction was not one of them. i look forward to if he ever gets to series direct, and just hearing he's on a project will be enough to get me interested
Tomoyuki Itamura is arguably an older director since his career started in the 00s, but a lot of that time was spent either as an episode director or working on Monogatari. it's only more recently with Vanitas and Yofukashi no Uta that he's branched out into other stuff, so i'm looking forward to whatever else he gets up to
Tomohiro Furukawa is one of the most exciting. Revue Starlight was an instant classic, and with his experience working with Ikuhara, i think he has a long and storied career ahead of him, especially if he's allowed to continue working on original productions
Mari Okada has been working as a writer for both adaptations and original productions for a long time now, but her burgeoning career is super exciting especially because directing and writing are positions that don't frequently overlap in anime
Makoto Katou isn't as exciting compared to the rest of these names, but he keeps getting attached to productions i care about, and he did a good enough job with Bloom Into You that i'm looking forward to how he adapts ATRI

Hi, I'm sorry to disturb you! Since you're so knowledgeable about many sides of the TMMN production, I was wondering whether you know which people wrote the screenplay for each episode, and who directed the animation for each of them? I usually refer to Anime News Network for this sort of information, but they haven't uploaded anything regarding this aspect. ;( Sorry again for the disturb and thank you so so much for your amazing blog!
Hi, sorry for the delayed reply I always check the ending credits for each episode, this is all the information I could get from the credits... I only know certain who animated a specific scene when the authorm makes a tweet saying "Hi, thank you for watching today's episode, did you know I was in charge of doing this or that scene in today's episode?"      “ okada-san, if my uncle asks how our mission went, can you... leave out the part where i almost died? ” pale blue eyes won’t meet tatsuya’s, focused elsewhere. mizu hates to make such a request, but she hates troubling yubari more. “ there’s no use worrying him over something that’s already past. i worry him enough as it is. ”

The Face of Another (Hiroshi Teshigahara, 1966)
Cast: Tatsuya Nakadai, Machiko Kyo, Mikijiro Hira, Kyoko Kishida, Miki Irie, Eiji Okada, Minoru Chiaki, Hideo Kanzi, Kunie Tanaka. Screenplay: Kobo Abe, based on his novel. Cinematography: Hiroshi Segawa. Production design: Masao Yamazaki. Film editing: Yoshi Sugihara. Music: Toro Takemitsu.
Kobo Abe based the screenplay for The Face of Another on his own novel, and I suspect that adherence to the source weakens the film, which dwells heavily on ideas about identity and morality that are more efficiently explored in literature than in cinema. The central narrative deals with Okuyama (Tatsuya Nakadai) who, having been disfigured in an industrial accident, sees a psychiatrist (Mikijiro Hira) who devises an experimental mask that gives Okuyama an entirely new identity. Wearing the mask, Okuyama seduces his own wife (Machiko Kyo), who tells him that she knew who he was all along and assumed that he was trying to revive their marriage, which had been troubled since his accident. She is enraged when she learns that he was in fact testing her fidelity. But there is a secondary narrative about a beautiful young woman (Miki Irie) who bears scars along one side of her face that, it is suggested, are the result of exposure to radiation from the Nagasaki atomic bomb. In the novel, this story comes from a film that was seen by Okuyama, but Hiroshi Teshigahara withholds this explanation for including it without apparent connection to Okuyama's story. I'm not troubled by the disjunction this creates in the film, because Teshigahara and production designer Masao Yamazaki have developed a coherent symbolic style that creates an appropriate air of mystery throughout The Face of Another. The weakness lies, I think, in the dialogue, especially in the too didactic exchanges between Okuyama and the psychiatrist about the limits and potential of a mutating identity. Nevertheless, it's a fascinating, flawed film, more disturbing than most outright "horror" movies.

UNPROMPTED ASK || ALWAYS ACCEPTING @offestivities said: Tatsuya hands Haru a small pouch. Inside, there was a polished piece of amber with a preserved flower inside of it. “Thank you for all that you do here at the mansion, Haru-kun.” He said with a smile. “I’ve heard you enjoy flowers, and found this would be a fitting gift for you.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
❝ oh, thank you, okada-san! ❞ he did not expect to receive a holiday present from a person outside his fellow attendants at the mansion. typically he'd receive a gift from his childhood friend aoi or sometimes a conjoined gift from all of them. still, it was certainly a wonderful surprise to be given! he opened the small pouch & to his surprise, it was a piece of amber with a preserved flower in the interior of it.
❝ you did not have to get anything for me, but i appreciate you thinking of me while on your travels. i don't have anything to give you in return, but i could ask aoi-chan if she could make your favorite dish for you if you'd like.❞

The Okada’s are a Japanese supernatural family that has long been renowned in the domain of necromancy.
The Okada necromancer line originated in Japan at the middle of the Edo period. The identity of the family progenitor is unknown. It is well documented that the first male descendant inherits the capacity to raise the dead, and this genetic transference has continued uninterrupted for more than 200 years.
Historically, the Okada’s began as rice farmers in the Osaka prefecture and later became hakaba caretakers in the late 1840s. According to legend, the first Okada necromancer received his abilities so that he could defend his Minoh village against a yorei invasion. The Okada necromancers would continue to serve as the village defenders for the following 150 years. As the Okadas moved to larger, less communal cities in the 20th century, this identity would change.

tatsuya’s birthday is later this month (on the 25th!). he’s never actually celebrated a birthday per having a large family. most birthdays involved no chores and sitting at the temple with a good book, followed by prayer for good fortune for the next year. tatsuya doesn’t see himself as super religious (something he’d never tell his parents, who, you know... are a shrine priest and maiden), he does it purely out of tradition. that, and to ensure his siblings don’t riot and give his parents any trouble when he’s away.
in both his verses, he had been away from his family for quite a while, and (because i can/for rp sake), this would be his second birthday away from family. due to not paying attention to dates and how his birthday wasn’t really treated as something special, he’d most likely miss the date himself and not realize it had passed until new year festivities start up the week after and plans of hatsumode come into play.
as for gifts/things he wishes for... well, he does not expect anything, ever. it isn’t on his mind. however, he has a long list of books he has yet to read, which are outlined in his reading journal. right now, he has been focused on learning about fashion through the ages and has a bullet journal that connects common themes between countries/eras in regards to the fashion industry. when it isn’t that, it’s doing research to compile a linear history for the family temple so guests can visit and follow along as they enjoy the area. and.. if not that, learning about local history.
he also doesn’t connect christmas to his birthday being on the same day. so he does... actively give gifts for christmas not realizing it’s also the same day as his birth.

Cat Street has my favourite shopkeeper. And I can't apologise enough, but it's not Hanekoma:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love this guy for all the wrong reasons. I mean, his name is K1! And he makes these silly rhymes with everything he says, all with a straight face pre-friendship.
I think people have compared his appearance to the Persona 2 protagonist, Tatsuya Suou.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can definitely see it. Hey, alternate dimensions are canon to TWEWY, so maybe it's the same guy!
I know we'll probably never get it, but a Persona/TWEWY crossover could work so well and would be a dream come true.
