Han x Leia Holiday Exchange 2022: The Reveal (Part 2)
Tumblr media
Yes, it’s time for the big finish to our 2022 Han x Leia Holiday Exchange — the author reveals! You can now find all the works submitted to the exchange, now with author’s names visible, in our AO3 collection HERE.
In addition to that, we’ve put together a masterlist below with all the fics, authors, and recipients for this year’s exchange.
Writers, you are more than welcome now to promote your fics and repost them wherever you wish. Recipients, if you haven’t yet had a chance to read your gift or leave a comment thanking your writer, please take the time to do so! And if you’ve already left a comment, you can leave a second one now that you know who your mystery writer was, if you like. (And of course, now you can confirm whether your guesses about who wrote what were correct 😉)
For all who participated in this year’s exchange, thank you! We hope you enjoyed it and are proud of the collection of new HanLeia fics we’ve created together — we certainly are. We appreciate your passion, your creativity, and your commitment, all of which contributed to a wonderful and varied group of fics celebrating our beloved Han and Leia 💝

10 things in 2023
tagged by @trying-to-get-somewhere-real
a fic idea you want to write or read: I have many but I think I’m going to try at least in the lead up to femslash feb to dust off some WIPs for long standing ships to breathe new life into them and maybe have a posting schedule? *sigh* we’ll see.
a place you want to go: It’s truly a season in my life where I want to stay more than go but we’re hoping to buy a home and I can’t wait to turn it into a place I want to be and return to.
a book you want to read: at this point just finishing a book on my TBR list is an accomplishment but I am super excited for Bloodmarked and Honey in the Marrow eventually.
something fun you want to do: We have a weekend planned with a local queer family group to go to a waterpark the weekend of my birthday and I’m pumped for that.
something you want to make: at least two knitting projects and three new recipes.
a habit you want to start: More one I want to return to. My body has made it abundantly clear that regular yoga would be beneficial again so that would be nice.
something new you want to try: Switching up my wardrobe a little. I turned two old hoodies into crop tops last year and I wore them more than I had in years. So some other slight change to something I already own would be lovely.
something you want to finish from 2022: A cowl and a shawl.
something you want to stop doing: giving into the idea that there is a time limit for creating stories in a fandom. Like yes when folks are most active is great but you can always return or dive in and it’s still worth something.
something you want to keep doing: practice being gentle with myself in small ways and following a self nurturing plan over a self care one.
Tagging (only if you’d like): @chilly-flame, @cosmic-llin, @gayverlyearp, @werewolfinmychair, @raanne, @romanimp, @okaynextcrisis, and @amusedrhyme

Oh there was a prompt list! Ignore my last ask, how about: JA Qui and Obi and 8?
Thank you so much for the prompt! 8: "If you don't tell me what happened, I can't help you!". This became part of a larger story, so here's the passage including your prompt:
He passed familiar benches and sitting stones, choosing instead to settle cross-legged in the grass. He had tried to bring Obi-Wan back here, when Qui-Gon was still blinded by the rush of optimism that came with having him home, at last. Obi-Wan had panicked and twisted away from Qui-Gon, pulling out a bush of rare velanies in the process, dirt smeared on his clothes and crusted in his fingernails. Qui-Gon had not attempted another visit to the Meditation Gardens with Obi-Wan.
He thought of the cramped room Obi-Wan preferred, windowless, with its thin mattress and durasteel sink.
He thought of the early fights, clasping Obi-Wan’s thin wrists and shouting in his face: “If you don’t tell me what happened, I can’t help you!”. He had never yelled at his Padawan that way before. The shame burned in him for days afterward.
It isn’t his fault. None of this is his fault. Qui-Gon laid his hands on his knees and dropped his head back, gazing up at the ceiling of domed glass. Clouds shifted in the grey sky beyond. Your expectations are not his obligation.
"Found" can be found here . Thank you for the prompt! These dialogue snippets really shaped where I went with the story and it was a lot of fun.

fave book you've read recently?
Like I have only one answer to this. Pfft.
Graphic novel: On a Sunbeam by Tillie Walden. (Absolutely gorgeous art and a story of someone seeking a lost love? Sign me right on up. 10/10 will not regret.)
Alternate History novel: The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow. (Alternate historical timeline in which magic is 100% real but dudes ruin absolutely everything and women take matters into their own hands? I'm here for it.)
Ask me 'what's your favorite...'

PAUSE AND CONSIDER: Bill and Laura, plane crash, only survivors, deserted island??
I honestly never thought I’d get to this, but here you go :)
“I have three degrees in English literature,” Laura Roslin says, though her companion doesn’t appear to be listening. “I’ve taught literature of the middle ages, the restoration, noir and crime fiction. I’ve taught fairy tales and children’s books. I’ve taught 32 sections of creative writing over the course of my career, and not once – not ONCE – did I ever read a believable ‘deserted island survivor’ story. Not ONCE,” she reiterates through clenched teeth.
“And yet,” her companion sighs, “here we are.” They stare out at the calm blue waters of the Atlantic, where the hiss of bubbles is all that remains of the Cessna 152 she’d hired to celebrate her 50th birthday.Well, not entirely all. She’s still got the pilot, though what good he is without a plane is beyond her. “How far from civilization are we, exactly?” she asks.
The pilot – she thinks his name is Bill, and in any other situation she’d be mortified that she can’t remember – shrugs. “About 50 miles, I’d guess. Range on these birds isn’t that far.”
50 miles? Judging from the blue stretching in every direction, it feels like days away from her little coastal cabin in Bar Harbor. “So help should be here soon. That’s good.”
He cocks an eyebrow, studying her with those oddly blue eyes of his. The eyes of a haint, her grandmother would say, if her grandmother were alive and foolish enough to go up in an airplane with a complete stranger just so she could say she did something she’d always been afraid of. “Help would be here soon,” he agrees, “if we’d filed a flight plan.”
Oh. That. Laura Roslin curses herself up one side of this rocky beach and down the other. No flights, he’d said. Quarantine and all that. But she had a bucket list, and she’d quite frankly given up on giving even the smallest damn about breaking this government’s rules. Maybe the current secretary of education wouldn’t have paid an extra $5,000 to take a joyride in a global pandemic, but the former secretary of education said a hearty fuck it and forked over the cash.
“So what you’re saying is, we’re stuck here.”
“Yep.”
She sighs. “Indefinitely.”
“Yep.”
Happy birthday to me. She kicks off her shoes and drops to the sand, pulling at the zipper of the backpack she’d managed to save from the sinking plane.
“You got any food in there?” He settles in next to her and pulls off his own boots, tucking his socks in them before digging his toes in the sand. It’s such an incongruous thing for what can only be described as the crustiest of crusty New Englanders she’s ever seen, playing in the sand, that she’s almost amused.
Almost, until she remembers that Barefoot McGee over there crashed their plane and ruined her birthday.
“Nope.” His shoulder brushes against hers as he peers into her bag, offering a grunt of approval as she hands him a couple of paperbacks. “Hold these.” Back into the bag she goes, until her fingers brush against a small Ziploc baggie. “Aha!”
“Never would have guessed you for a drug smuggler,” he says, but he’s certainly not shying away as she shakes out a few buds.
“Don’t worry, it’s medicinal.” He doesn’t ask medicinal for what, and she’s happy not to explain. He holds the small pipe as she packs it, obviously no stranger to the process, and digs a lighter out of his jacket pocket. She takes the first hit and passes him the pipe. Angry as she is, she’s not about to be rude.
“Food would have been more useful,” he says through a stream of smoke.
It would have. But Laura Roslin is tired of useful. She’s been nothing but useful her entire life, and it’s gotten her stuck on a deserted island with a stranger, two mystery novels, and enough weed to make it a hell of a pity party.
Maybe it’s the weed – the good stuff, her former assistant had promised her, and she had no doubt that Tory knew her drugs – or maybe it’s the sunset casting a rosy glow over the sand, or maybe it’s just that leaning into Bill is the closest she’s come to a man since her goddamned snake of a lover fired her AND broke up with her, but she finds she’s not all that concerned about food. Or shelter. Or anything else, for that matter. She hums along with the waves and lets herself float on her high. “There are worse ways to go,” she says.
He brushes her bangs off her forehead, giving her wig a gentle nudge back into position. “Yeah,” he says. “I guess there are.”

Quitahl + a mission together, with Obi-Wan?
One overbooked spaceliner, one shared cabin, the bottle of Chandrilian wine that Tahl had fetched out of her satchel and the deck of sabacc cards Qui-Gon provided out of his pack.
Five rounds in and still neither of them are particuarly tired, but Obi-Wan falls asleep without a sound sometime during their last hand, with his arms still wrapped around his knees, leaning against the bulkhead in Qui-Gon’s lower bunk; Qui-Gon lays down a card, glancing up from his hand, and finally notices.
“Just a moment,” he murmurs, and Tahl can’t help but smile as he leans over the bunk to settle a blanket over the boy before returning to their table.

social distance tag
i was tagged by @okaynextcrisis - thank you! :)
are you staying home from work/school?
I’m working from home
if you’re staying home, who is with you?
I live alone but I still see my parents who live in the same apartment building
who would be your ideal quarantine mate?
tbh a cat or a dog would be nice. I’m not sure I’d want to be with another human in my tiny apartment 24/7
are you a homebody?
yes and no. I love to travel but when I’m not traveling I don’t go out much
an event you were looking forward to that got canceled?
I had a trip planned that’s not happening (though hopefully will later when this is all over)
what movies have you watched recently?
I managed to see Misbehaviour in London just before it all went down. At home I mainly watch tv series (I did see the Miss Fisher movie though)
what shows are you watching?
I’m currently watching Belgravia and rewatching Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries
what music are you listening to?
whatever youtube throws at me at this point
what are you reading?
Honour by Caroline Goode
what are you doing for self-care?
probably not enough lol. I try to go out for a walk while keeping my distance at least a few times a week. Still having to work sort of helps in keeping to a somewhat normal sleeping schedule, which is good
tagging: anyone who wants to do this

i was tagged by @okaynextcrisis Thanks!
are you staying home from work/school?
I’m trading off with my boss, working from home every other day. I work for a company that manufactures packaging for food, so we are considered essential
if you’re staying home, who is with you?
During the workday? Two doggos and kittycat. My fiance has to physically go to his work.
who would be your ideal quarantine mate?
My fiance. Or Christine Baranski.
are you a homebody?
I can be. I like to get out and do things in moderation, but I’m fine staying home too
an event you were looking forward to that got canceled?
It’s not cancelled yet, but I’m really worried my August wedding will have to be postponed or significantly changed. Also worried the deposits I’ve already paid will be lost if vendors go out of business.
what movies have you watched recently?
On Netflix - Bombshell. In the theatre (remember theatres?) - Knives Out. Recommend them both
what shows are you watching?
Designated Survivor (S2), The Blacklist (S1), Peaky Blinders (S2)
what music are you listening to?
Lots of late 70s/early 80s love songs lately. Chicago, Air Supply, REO Speedwagon...
what are you reading?
Just started The Glass Hotel, by Emily St. John Mandel. Her last book, Station 11, is one of my all-time favourites!
what are you doing for self-care?
We recently bought a chunk of forested land on a lake and we’ve been getting out whenever we can, working on clearing it. It’s been a sanity saver to have somewhere outside we can go for exercise and fresh air and still be socially distant.
I haven’t been around much, so not sure who has already done this. Tagging anyone who still wants to!

Rizzles + 26?
Jane stomped into the morgue. “Ugh,” she sighed as she approached Maura’s table.
Maura paused her recording. “Hard day?”
Jane ran a hand through her hair. “Can you go blind from too much paperwork?”
Maura tilted her head. “Significant eye strain can cause vision impairment but I’m not sure of the incidence of total blindness.”
Jane smiled softly. “There’s that Google brain I can always count on.” She crossed her arms and shook her head. “I swear you’re the one thing keeping me sane right now.”
“There is ice cream over there.”
Jane crossed and kissed her cheek. “Bless you.”

7, 10, 12?
7. Your favorite downtime activity.
We don’t really do downtimes with the groups I’m in (the only one that does is the one where I’m the DM...), but I like the ones that give the character a more solid background.
10. Your favorite enemy and the enemy you hate the most.
Favorite? Dragons. You can never go wrong with dragons.
And I hate striges so much that once I saw that the prewritten adventure I was DMing had them I just skipped the encounter.
12. Your in game inside jokes/memes/catchphrases and where they came from.
Oh boy. We have, like... lots of inside jokes with my groups (we always play together, so it was bound to happen). One of my favorite recent ones is the “dragons have cats” one, which came from a PC trying to prove to the tabaxi PC that catnip is extinct because the dragons left the area. Yea. It was certainly a session.
