[ID: An image of goldfish crackers in a tupperware container on my kitchen counter. They are shot very close-up and covered in delicious seasoning.]
I finished the last of my Old Bay goldfish last week, so I tried the bootleg recipe and it's pretty good! Plus the flavoring is a little looser so when I put a bunch of goldfish and cashews in a bag and shake them up together the nuts get some Old Bay too.
The recipe is on a site RIDDLED with ads so:
Old Bay Goldfish
1 bag (6.6oz) Original Goldfish (not the cheddar -- look for the blue bag. Or don't, I'm not the boss of you.)
5 Tbsp (70g) unsalted butter
1.5 Tbsp Old Bay seasoning
The recipe also called for 1/8 Tsp "Accent" (MSG) but I didn't happen to have any and it was fine without it.
Heat oven to 250F. Pour crackers into a large bowl; melt butter in a normal bowl and stir Old Bay seasoning into the butter. Pour flavoring mixture over goldfish and stir to coat; be ginger but thorough (stir gently but a lot).
Spread crackers on a baking sheet -- I actually used a cake pan to minimize spillage -- and bake, stirring every 10 minutes, for 20-40 minutes, until crackers are "dry". Mine took 25 minutes.
Hi Sam!! I’ve been closely following the Goldfish thing because I never knew that there was a default, not cheddar flavor! I’ve been keeping my eye out at the grocery to catch it in the wild and instead I found that they’ve got Old Bay seasoned goldfish!! Obviously I grabbed some to try and I had to show you! They’re very tasty and I strongly recommend!!
Picture features my cat lemon, who is veeeeery curious about this new snack.
I am DYING LAUGHING because the Old Bay goldfish are what inspired me to make the poll! (Also your cat is very cute, I love that we can tell how curious Lemon is just from the whiskers.)
I very much enjoy the Old Bay goldfish and I had just found out they were back, so I mentioned it to a couple of people and then asked my usual why is the universe gaslighting me question of "Did you know cheddar is not the default original flavor for Goldfish crackers?"
And then I realized since the last time I'd had this conversation, in early 2022, Tumblr had introduced polls. :D
Anyway yes, Old Bay Goldfish Crackers are A+, do recommend.
