Someone apologized for leaving an AO3 comment on a story from 2011. THOSE ARE THE BEST ONES! Stories I might have forgotten, or worried that are just gathering dust somewhere, and people are still enjoying it? C'mon!

I wish more people read old old OLD stories to learn where so many come from.
Tumblr media
Like Zadig, by Voltaire. It led to the evolution of the detective novel/story. It also features an adaptation of The Three Princes of Serendip, a story out of Serendippo/Ceylon/Sri Lanka 3 princes features nesting stories. A serendipitous (where the word serendipity comes from) adventure. It's a picaresque before the word picaresque (from the Spanish, Picario), but anyways. It's shared/in conversation and evolutionary storytelling in action.
Zadig is believed to have inspired Poe with The Murders in the Rue Morgue.
Tumblr media
But origins of this train begin in Sri Lanka.
A story about just a wild zany fun adventure of three princes. And this old story features a great deal of detective work and analytical thinking from the pov of the princes.
You've probably seen the inverse in popular media/games.
A murder happens, one of three brothers is blamed. You're asked to sus out who did it. Only here, they're asked to defend themselves after being blamed for stealing a camel they've never seen however, they are able to make deductions about the camel based on context clues in their environment, each prince having noted different things to help clue them in to the specifics about said camel, and unifying their findings. --the princes are later spared as someone else finds the camel wandering in the desert.
But yeah.
Storytelling (its history and traditions) is neat as fuck when you study it.

Last night, I plugged in earphones at 2am turning to music as my last resort for sleep, instead it gifted me memories crafted with the wind that touched my skin. It gifted a glimpse, and somehow I couldn't stop wanting for more. Just like the wind notified me of the changing season, my heart too said that we are running short on her memories now. I use up her memories to remain sane in every passing moment, I replay her conversations in my head everytime I hear the ambulance sirens, and now I simply want more of her memories but there's only so much I can do to gather more. And when the seasons change I cannot help but slip into the thoughts that I want to shed off. So just for a moment I want to hold all her memories together, something I could touch, something I could add a face to, something that could physically hold her stories for me. And if I could walk up to every person who knew her, loved her and adored her, I'd do that just to ask them for their memories of her, how they remembered her, and if only I could add them to mine? So I love going places where someone talks about her and revisit old stories, for there's only so much I can do.

hello you said if anybody wants stories from your ballet years to ask so i am asking :D
Hiii! For a little context, I started doing ballet when I was two and quit when I was a teen. Did it permanently mess up my legs because of being pushed too hard and starting on pointe shoes long before my body was developed enough? Yes. Would I do it again in a heartbeat if I could? Also yes!
Now for the fun part lol
On stage, every one is all graceful and stuff right? Backstage we are man spreading on the floor with our skirts flipped up, devouring Doritos like we will die tomorrow.
I was doing a show where we had to lift a girl up on cables while the rest of us were doing other stuff on stage below her. One time during our final performance she didn't get hooked in correctly and fell after being raised just above our heads. And I FUCKING CAUGHT HER PERFECTLY. She was quite a bit smaller than me and I just happened to be directly below her when it happened.
We played an insane game of telephone with everyone in the performer's lounge (which at the stage I mainly performed at was literally just the basement with like ten metal folding chairs) in which the final sentence was "Santa's asscrack smells of cheese"
The tradition of the aforementioned stage was to kiss the wall in the basement before you went on stage for good luck, so every wall was covered in old lipstick marks
I've had to do quick changes in under five minutes, which included running down to the basement, completely changing your stage makeup and hair, switching your costume, and then running upstairs again to get in place backstage
As a build up to a finale in a solo piece, I was doing a very high side grand battement en pointe (really high side kick while standing on my toes) and I fell down into the splits. I just lost balance and fell right on to my leg, and I am not a small person so it hurt a lot because I have a long way to fall lol. Luckily it was only a dress rehearsal, so I was able to get myself back up and take it again from the top.
My toes look funky from pointe, never ask dancers for feet pics lol
After the curtain closes after the curtain call/the grand finale if you don't do the curtain call, everyone is tackling each other and partying
I have more, but it's very late as I'm writing this and I don't have the energy lol. I will say this, though. I would NEVER recommend ballet to anyone. I only shared the good stories, but there is a very good reason I quit. You have to bite and claw to get anywhere good, and believe me I fought hard for every solo and every role I got. I spent all of my evenings at the studio or practicing at home, and it's practically a job of it's own. The spaces are largely abusive and every instructor I've ever had has been one of the worst people I've ever met. It's also one of the reasons that I'm currently disabled.
However? I genuinely loved it and I wish I could go back. For me, dancing felt like flying and the music echoed through my aching bones and the experience and joy of it all made it worth it. I could get up on stage and suddenly I wasn't a lonely kid with a fucked up home life and abusive grandparents who were actively trying to kill me. I was free and I could just forget everything that I had been carrying on my shoulders, even if it was just for a moment to dance.

does anyone know the story of a very beautiful young woman who got tuberculosis(?) and was coughing up blood and her lover(?) was so devastated but he couldn’t bear to be parted from her so she was put into a glass room so he could see her without falling ill himself
this was a story told to me when i was very young so i might remember it wrong. also the story was told orally so they might have misremembered. they didn’t claim to make this story up
i have no idea of the story’s origin. it’s possible that it was a father or other family member who put her in the glass room. i’ve been trying to find it for years with no luck

'Ello everyone! Its been a minute since I've made my own post. Its actually kinda difficult to figure out what I last showed yall 😅. But it looks like yall haven't seen anything I've done since August 3rd. Well, it's Halloween and I guess my art is the treats I'm leaving in a bowl outside saying please take one? Idk. I'm still not in a great place from everything I mentioned before and normally I see and get together with family today and its not happening at all as a FaceTime or phonecall or nothing. It has nothing to do with the snow either :/
Anyway art
Cw: flashing images, painfully bright colors, blood, body horror (? Dunno if any of this counts), flashing lights, flashing colors

Mae Chouko of Rainbow went through many early designs quite quickly in mid-2013, with her hairstyle and outfit initially changing at least a little bit almost every time I drew her. In her very first design, her hair was shorter, with fewer lighter pieces. By page 12 of the first draft of her story, the drawing in the margin brought her hair to its current length, and mostly its current style. Still, it would change throughout margin drawings to become straighter or parted to one side sometimes, depending on what I wanted it to look like to match whichever outfit I was drawing her in.
Her outfits and hair changed greatly throughout 2014-16, too, for the most part becoming longer, but that is a drawing for another time.
Her wings changed, also. Initially they were much more pointed, with the core of them being black, and only the edges being rainbow. Since 2014, her wings have been entirely rainbow.
As the 24th of August marks 10 years since her first design was created, I thought I'd draw some of her earliest designs, alongside her current design (finalized as of 2017 for the publication of Rainbow) in the upper right corner.
And now, time for bed. It's five in the morning. I stayed up all night doing this.

Fated AU: Under Realms Escape
The blinding light revealed itself in the corners of his eyes, causing him to squint and blink when they slowly adjusted to the bright aura of the room. Jolting up in surprise, Pac desperately felt around his body for a sign of his power berry supply, which it was safely stored right next to him, although that hadn't pleased the anxiety he had. He pushed the button and watched as the small latched open, revealing many power berries safely stored in the supply compartment. He sighed in relief and gazed around the area for more context of where he was, which they were bronze bars held nice and sturdy onto the only opening visible.
The yellow one breathed in, strangely enough, the air wasn't toxic in any way. Weren't they all just in the Nether Realm? Recalling some of his memories as he stumbled onto the bars, all he recognized from the state he was in was searching for his classmates since many entities took them both at once, he remembered Cylindria encountering a taller Pac-Worlder with slight demonic traits that helped them to try and search for them, which ended poorly before he was knocked unconscious. Pac frowned when recalling the faint vision of the elder demon electrocuting their new friend and seeing them break apart right in front of them.
He flinched when he heard pained groaning coming from his friends, rushing over to their sides and helping them up, he wasn't in the mood to speak, his throat was sore and his head was throbbing, what was he even running from?
"What... What the heck happened...?" Cylindria asked while almost falling and stumbled onto Pac for support so she could stand.
"Aw.. My head..." Spiral winced and shakily made himself stand up, even if his legs tried to give up under him. "Where the hell are we?" He rubbed the side of his head and looked around the cell, hissing when he felt a stinging pain on his right eye. Immediately covering it and rubbing it, it felt sore and it burned, oh boy...
"Spiral your eye!" Pac rushed over to him and knelt down, removing his friend's hand from its placement and examining the red scars on his face. "Can you try opening it?" He asked, small tears forming at the corner of his own. The yellow one watched as his teammate slowly attempted to at least force the eye to open, when he finally did he blinked rapidly to get some tears to fall from the pain.
"It looks really red.. Thank god it's only the lid but that doesn't make it any better..." Cyli rubbed her thumb over the scratch marks where he was harmed, a nervous smile plastered onto her face. She then stared at something at the corner of her eye and realized that the heroes were not the only one inside of their cell.
"Skeebo!" She ran up to the teenager's unconscious body that was slumped against the wall with his head hanging downwards. She desperately checked his body for any injuries but didn't seem to find any, however she did notice something, there was a small black mark located on his cheek, it seemed very familiar to her.
"Huh. Would ya' look at that? We actually found him... In a weird way..." Spiral laughed slightly, pushing his springy hair out of his face so his eyes won't be irritated any more.
Cylindria desperately shook her ex awake, watching him close his eyes more and opening them just the slightest. His hair was an absolute mess, it was quite amusing to see, yet it seemed way more fluffier than when they saw him before, his jacket was ripped in various places and there was bruises all over his body, he looked he was beat badly with no mercy.
When Skeebo fully opened his eyes, he saw all three of them above him staring down at him with curiosity. Startled, he yelped and accidentally punched Spiral in the face, covering his mouth in shock when he realized who he just blew.
"Oh my god! Sorry! I am so sorry!" Skeebo panicked and waved his hands frantically, not wanting to be slaughtered with no mercy by the more chill jock.
"AW DUDE! I JUST WOKE UP!" >:(
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to! I swear!" His hair messily fell over his face, it seemed to be long enough at the ends to cover a bit of his eyes. The black mark was more visible to Cylindria, which she realized looked way too similar to the one on the other victim's face.
"Skeebo!" They heard a male voice scream, it sounded like it was on the other side of the prison. Rushing over to the bars, the freckled teenager held his grasp on them before seeking a white Pac-Worlder a level above them.
"Mason!" He replied, his eyes watering at the corner just the slightest. "Hold on Mason, Imma get you out of there!" He grabbed his bag and took out a propane torch, which he lit the bars up and eyed as the liquid bronze oozed on the ground. He then ran out of the cell with concerning speed and passed all of the guards along the way, Pac and his friends following right after.
Skeebo rummaged around in his bag and yanked out a grappling hook, shooting right at the other's cell. Tugging at the wire to make sure it was steady he pulled the trigger, zipping right up to the level and throwing the still lit torch at the cell's opening to reveal a loud spark and explosion.
Mason smiled, he was a tall oval Pac-Worlder with long black hair, which faded into an auburn color, in a low braid. His eyes were golden, there was a small mark on his right cheek that resembled a stitched heart, however it wasn't a tattoo of any sort. Hopping over the metal substance, he tackled Skeebo into a hug, resting his face on his cheek.
He brought his hand to the freckled one's face and brushed a strand of hair out of his face. "Did they hurt you?"
Skeebo giggled, a more gentle gaze in his eyes. "No, I'm okay.."He leaned into the other's touch and held the hand with pure care. "Did they hurt you?"
"Who cares?!" Mason had a few tears in his eyes.
"I do." He hugged the other with passion, kissing his forehead right after. Mason laughed and picked Skeebo up while twirling him around, both of their laughing drowning out the sounds of the prison. The longer they stood there in each others arms, the more brighter the light around them grew. At some point they started floating up in the air, all three of the heroes watching in awe.
As both of their laughs went out it was replaced by a single male voice, when the light vanished, there was but one boy where the other two were, and he was laughing in pure joy when he twirled to face the other three. His hair flipped behind him as he gracefully fell downwards towards them. He had muted purple eyes, multiple freckles dotting his face, two black hearts on both cheeks, his small fangs were also visible as well. His hair was curled at the top as it showed a patch of black and brown everywhere, and it fell down into a messy low ponytail at the bottom.
"Hello again!" He said, a friendly salute at the other three, his accent was quite English despite of who was with him before. "Still need to escape huh?" He teased.
"It's you!" Cylindria gazed at the taller being with shock. "Wait... Hold on.. Are you?"
"We're a demon fusion! Yep! Sorry we haven't spoke about that earlier."
"But..How? What do we even call you.?" She asked, clear confusion in her eyes.
"We would prefer keeping those details for later until we get you guys out of here. Uhh... The name's Masono by the way." He ran over to a guard and knocked him out with his teeth, which grew like a cobra. "We would love to stay and chat but we gotta go. There's a reason they want to keep us here."
"Hold up! Fusion?! So are you-"
"Skeebo Loverman and Mason Praida? Yes we are." He winked at them before launching a bat at other guards that were coming right towards them. "Keep your guards up! We're not leaving you guys behind just because you failed in fighting back. We love you all but sometimes you gotta kick ass some more, y'all are too safe then sorry."
Pac and Spiral watched with stars in their eyes while Cylindria pondered more with confusion, she thought that only certain types of demons fuse, but if that's true, how did Skeebo do it?
(This was an old oneshot I found from last year... Ugh the writing though... Ew... Oh well, at least I got to draw Masono for the first time. Ignore the 'Skeebson', that's just one of the ship name-)
