Longcuff says, "BOOYAH BACK!" bisexual drew old-school Garfield, captioned, "Full of lasagna." Eddy Belly drew a salmonid character, captioned, "I love spending 30k on gacha for a 50% xp ticket." chusday begs players to lure salmonids to the basket. This Japanese player is back, speaking about Mr. Coco: "His stature belies tenderness, along with drip to match that grip. Wonder how much he can bench press..." ivorny is back as well, with some hero inklings!
From October 22nd, 2022 (oftentimes I'll see posts from the previous day appear in my plaza).

Zeb Cook’s Player Types
I recently remembered this AD&D 2e module. It’s written by David “Zeb” Cook who some may know as the author of the original D&D expert set.
Tumblr media
It’s most interesting to me because of the section title “the great treasure”, wherein Cook discusses how to cater the rewards and treasures of this campaign to different kinds of players.
He describes 5 different player types.
Tumblr media
It’s important to note, he’s talking about each player type in the context of the kinds of treasures that these players might like.
It’s also worth noting that Cook described these as “styles of play” a term that has a completely different meaning today, referring to the style of the overall campaign and how the rules support that style, rather than a way that a player plays the game.
Tumblr media
Warlords appear to be a kind of player that isn’t as well accommodated in something like 5e, with the absence of the old stronghold rules.
However some might argue this isn’t accommodated in OD&D and Basic D&D either, since in some games, you were supposed to retire a character once they became a monarch.
Tumblr media
This one interests me most because I’m wondering how long Cook had known about this kind of player. Was it very common to see players who played this way?
Tumblr media
On “The Storyteller” I believe this one is not named correctly and reading the description, I feel “story-reader” is more appropriate, since it doesn’t appear like they actually want to tell stories as their character.
Tumblr media
Interesting that the rewards for puzzle solvers are simply more puzzles. This one is cool because I feel this kind of player would enjoy “solving” a dungeon.
And there you have it.
Tag yourself for which one you think you are.

Parse Your Way Through Unspeakable Horrors in 'The Aching'
Troublesome. That one word describes the current situation of the pale creature that is The Aching's protagonist perfectly. Waking up in a cave with no clue as to how they got there is one thing, but their memories and even identity are also completely blank. With only a silver locket and a splotch of red on a cave wall to go by, solving this particular mystery is not going to be easy. Not by a long shot.

Mugshot Monday - "Old School Skateboarding Coffee Mug" by  Adam Miller of Px10 Pottery with Morning Glory Signature Blend by Peace Coffee
I always miss skateboarding the most when I'm at a skatepark.
I think it's the sounds of skateboarding that get me. It's also the ramps and slider bars sitting there, right in front of me.
It's getting stoked at all the tricks skaters at the park are landing.
Lucky for me I get to live vicariously through my kids and my nephew who enjoy skating just as much as I do.
Tumblr media
This year after Turkey Day, we went to Cream City Skatepark near Milwaukee where they enjoyed an all-day skateboarding session. I had so much fun watching them.
I thought it was a good time to showcase my old-school skateboarding coffee mug that my friend Adam Miller at PX10 Pottery made a while back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love the mug because the artwork is a young Tony Hawk (likely) skating Del Mar Skate Ranch in California.
I'm pretty sure I've seen the photo Adam's illustration was based on, likely taken by legendary photographer Grant Brittain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you grew up in the 80s and 90s reading Thrasher or Transworld, you've probably seen Grant's work.
Adam skated back in the day as well. I love this mug as a nice homage to the old-school skateboarder.
Cream City Skatepark is hands-down my favorite indoor skatepark, so if you have kids or nieces and nephews who skate and you're in the area, I strongly recommend checking it out!
If you like this style of coffee mug, check out Adam's work. He's moved on from mugs with skateboarders to mugs with incredible animal illustrations. His roosters and pigs are my favorite.
Cheers! ☕️ 🙌🏻 🛹

Theme From C Bear and Jamal
Tone Loc
People think narcolepsy means you fall fast asleep without warning, and the boss gets furious that someone's snoring during his big speech at the important business meeting. Or you're checking your baggage at the airport, right, and clunk! Now your hands are folded neatly under your head as you zip across a series of conveyor belts, nestled between suitcases and boxes, and when you wake up in Timbuktu. I have not ever dropped to the floor and started snoring like a cartoon character. I didn't get an official diagnosis until just a few months ago, at age 34, because my experience with narcolepsy is so unlike anything I'd ever seen depicted in media that the possibility I might have it never even crossed my mind. When I was 28, I was working as a high school paraeducator. I was helping one of my kids on a health class assignment, a research project on narcolepsy. It was the fist time I'd seen any real information about the symptoms. Insomnia? That was a surprise. That's the opposite of what I thought narcolepsy was. Sleep paralysis? Weird, I have a long history of sleep paralysis, but it happens to everybody, right? And what is this word, cataplexy? Wait, that scary thing where my body goes limp and I lose all muscle tone has a name??? I called a doctor as soon as I could, begged for a sleep study, made the test's technicians laugh with how off-the-scales my results were, and returned to the doctor to be told... "Well, narcolepsy is really rare." I said, "Yes. It is rare. And some people have it. And I think I might be one of them." My current doctor, a specialist who was able to make a diagnosis from those same test results, says it's not common, but it's not that rare. My old doctor, like most people, just didn't know anything about narcolepsy. So let me contribute to public understanding in my small, anecdotal way. Narcolepsy is when I unconsciously take down all the little things that were stuck to the decorative shelf in my bedroom (I still haven't found all the pushpins I removed) before sleepwalking into someone else's room at 4:00 in the morning, all while dreaming about C Bear and Jamal. So when you bump into your shelf and it starts to fall - Narcolepsy, y'all! Pushpins in your hand and LEGO on the floor - Narcolepsy, y'all! When you sleepwalk down the hall and open up the door - Narcolepsy, y'all! It's the funky sleep disorder we don't fully understand

Check out this photographic relic I came across on one of my routes. A Kodak Star 110 point and shoot camera!!!!
I haven't seen a 110-film camera in ages. And it still has an unfinished film cartridge in it. 🤯🤯 Whomever used it last left it with only 6 pictures taken.

I prefer to toast my bread the old-school way: in the frying pan.
If they don’t have bread, let them eat cake! ¡Si no tienen pan, que coman pasteles!

Metamorphosis Alpha (or Gamma World 0e)
I just read the rules to Metamorphosis Alpha and I was genuinely surprised at how well these rules were written for a game in the 70s.
Tumblr media
It’s only 2 years older than D&D but it’s much easier to understand overall, even with some of the strange quirks such as attack matrices.
The setting is a colossal spaceship with multiple ecosystems on the inside. We’re a small continent’s worth of land, complete with forests, swamps, greenery of any kind. There’s a disaster and the passengers and crew fall into barbarism, forgetting about the technology and perhaps even the fact they were on a ship to begin with.
Players play as humans or mutants who are exploring this space, fighting monsters and collecting ancient technology as treasure. Eventually gaining access to other levels of the ship that may contain more natural settings, ship control areas, or even whole cities.
There’s a good variety of mutations on offer, both physical and mental. Anything from enhanced, strength, wings or even shapeshifting. The mental mutations range from small enhancements to basically high level D&D spells (Time Travel, Planar Portals, Weather Control etc.)
It’s shocking to me that this came out before AD&D, a game that is a little bloated in it’s text, to say the least.
This game accomplished it all in 40 pages and that includes errata that the author came back to write in 2007.
This isn’t so much of a review as I have not yet had a chance to play this game, but after reading it, I would certainly like to. This isn’t a recommendation either, you’ll have to judge for yourself if you should play it or not.
