Israelology Versus Replacement Theology: Is the Bible about Israel or Jesus❓

If Jesus is the Messianic fulfillment of the Hebrew Bible, then the Old Testament is essentially Christocentric (not Jewishcentric) and the New Testament is not talking about two peoples (the Jews & the church) but rather one: the elect (cf. Eph. 2:19-20), which is to say that the overarching theme of the Old Testament is not about a race but about a person: the Messiah!

If in fact there are 2 peoples with 2 different sets of standards (law & grace) by which they’re saved, then that would invalidate Christ’s atonement, as would the rebuilding of the third Jewish temple, which would necessitate the reinstituting of animal sacrifices. However, the Bible is not about ethnicity, racism, or nationalism. In Romans 2:28-29 (NASB), Paul redefines what the term Jew means in scripture:

For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly,

nor is circumcision that which is outward in

the flesh. But he is a Jew who is one

inwardly; and circumcision is of the heart.

In the Bible, there are not two people of God, but only one: those who are in Christ. At the end of the age, Christ will separate “the sheep from the goats” (Mt. 25.32). In other words, there are only two categories: you are either in Christ or out of Christ! The Bible is Christocentric. It is not ethnocentric. It’s not about a race.

Instead of admitting that they view the Bible as being about their race and not about Christ, the Hebrew Roots Movement dresses it up euphemistically as though the controversy was about the Jews versus the church. But that’s a misnomer. The real controversy is this: they don’t believe that the Bible is about Christ. But they hide that from you! Messianic Jews are often far more Judaic than they let on.

Read the letter to the Hebrews, chapter 9. It’s all about how Christ is greater than the temple sacrifices or the Law of Moses. This is a New Covenant. So why are the Jews holding on to the old one? Hebrews 8:13 declares:

When He [God] said, ‘A new covenant,’ He

has made the first obsolete.

Both Galatians and Romans are authentic Pauline letters. In those letters, Paul says categorically & unequivocally that we are saved by Grace, not by the Law. Paul says in Galatians 2:16:

a person is not justified by works

of the Law but through faith in Christ.

In Galatians 2:21, Paul says:

if righteousness comes through the Law, then

Christ died needlessly.

In Galatians 3:11, Paul repeats the justification of faith teaching:

that no one is justified by the Law before

God is evident; for, ‘the righteous one will

live by faith.’

It’s also found in many other places, including Romans 3:20:

by the works of the Law none of mankind

will be justified in His sight.

It doesn’t get any clearer than that. We are not to observe the law. We are saved by faith in Jesus Christ. According to Acts 4:12:

there is salvation in no one else [except

Jesus Christ]; for there is no other name

under heaven that has been given among

mankind by which we must be saved.

Yahweh is never once mentioned in the New Testament. Moreover, Galatians 3:7 says that we are the sons of Abraham by faith (not by race):

recognize that it is those who are of faith

who are sons of Abraham.

Ephesians 2:12-13 says that through “the blood of Christ” the elect are now part of God’s family. There’s only one plan, one family, one salvation, and one Lord, not 2 different salvation plans, or 2 peoples. It’s not that we have replaced Israel but that we have been brought into one family through Jesus’ atonement (the new covenant) which was prophesied in Jeremiah 31.31.

Incidentally, the history of replacement theology doesn’t go back to the dispensationalism of the 1800s, but rather to the early church. In Jer. 3:8, God gave Israel an official certificate of divorce. In Mt. 21:43, Jesus promised that the kingdom of God will be taken away from the Jews and given to another nation. Justin Martyr (100-165 AD) concurred that God’s covenant with Israel was annulled and that the Jews had been replaced by the Gentiles. Origen’s (185-253 AD) view was along the same lines. Irenaeus (ca. 130-202 AD) also proclaimed that God disinherited the Jews from his grace. Tertullian (ca. 155-220 AD) also held that the Jews had been rejected by God. Similarly, Eusebius (ca. 265-339 AD) held that the promises of Scripture were given to the Gentiles because only the Church was the “true Israel.” So, this view didn’t start in the 19th century. It was there from the beginning.

The covenant of the seed (in Genesis 12) is a reference to Christ (see Gal. 3:16). Notice that Abraham is the “father of many nations” (Gen. 17:5), not just one. So the covenant with Abraham and his descendants (Gen. 17:8) is with multiple nations, not just one! And all these are part of the covenant through Abraham’s seed, who is Christ! That’s why Isaiah 61:9 explicitly refers to God’s posterity as the people of the Gentiles:

their offspring will be known among the

nations [Gentiles], And their descendants in

the midst of the peoples. All who see them

will recognize them because they are the

offspring whom the Lord has blessed.

“It is not the children of the flesh … but the children of the promise [who] are regarded as descendants [of Israel]” (Rom 9:6-8). Here’s further proof that the language which was once used for Israel is now used to address the church (cf. Gal. 6:16). In contradistinction to those who don’t believe in Christ, 1 Peter 2:9 is addressing the church who does believe in Christ, saying:

But you are a chosen people, a royal

priesthood, a holy nation, a people for

God’s own possession.

In Colossians 1:26, “the mystery which had been hidden from the past ages and generations, but now has been revealed to His saints” is that the Gentiles are co-inheritors with Israel (cf. Gal 3:28). Ephesians 3:6 says:

This mystery is that through the gospel the

Gentiles are heirs together with Israel,

members together of one body, and sharers

together in the promise in Christ Jesus.

The real controversy about replacement theology is this: is the Bible about Judaism or Jesus? Jews argue that the Bible is not about Christ. Their Dual-covenant theology holds that the Old Covenant remains valid for Jews whereas the New Covenant is only applicable to gentiles.

Bottom line, the Bible is not about a nation or a race. It’s about a person: the God-incarnate Messiah. Those who believe in Christ think that the Bible is about Christ. Those who don’t really believe in Christ think that the Bible is about the nation of Israel. It’s that simple.

What is the argument about? It’s really about whether we pledge allegiance to Moses or to Jesus.

#DailyDevotion The Glory Of The Spirit Out Shines The Glory Of The Law 2 Cor. 37-11 7Now if that service, engraved in stone and bringing death, came with such glory the people of Israel couldn't look at Moses' face because it shone with the glory that was fading, Show much more certainly 8will the service of the Spirit have glory? 9If the service that condemns has glory, the service that gives righteousness much more certainly overflows with glory. 10That which had glory lost it because the other glory outshone it. 11If that which fades away had its glory, that which is permanent much more certainly has glory. That service is the service of the Old Testament Torah, the Covenant the LORD made with Israel on Mt. Sinai. Though it pointed to their need for Christ and to Christ himself, having been only engraved on stone, it brought death. As Paul says in Romans 5, “20The Law came to multiply sin,...” It was not written on their hearts. Yet the service of that Torah (Law) was so glorious the people could not look at Moses'. He shined with the glory of the LORD, yet that glory also faded. The service of the Spirit (the New Testament, the Good News of Jesus Christ, the forgiveness of sins in his name) much more certainly has glory. The Old Covenant could not give righteousness by all its commands because it was not written on the people's hearts. The Spirit of God writes the Torah of Jesus Christ into our hearts. His service gives righteousness which overflows with much more glory than the old. His glory while it condemns us for our sins, also bestows upon us the forgiveness of those sins in Christ Jesus. His glory gives us grace to believe in the forgiveness of sins, the kindness of the LORD, his steadfast love towards us, his mercy to us, with the discipline we need to mortify our sinful flesh. The glory of the Old Covenant is lost because the glory of the New Covenant has out shown it. The Mosaic covenant with all its laws and demand, its rites, rituals and sacrifices was temporary, a guardian over us, as Paul reminds us in Galatians. The New Covenant overflows with the glory of God which declares us righteous and makes us righteous by faith in the blood of Jesus. It has more glory because it is written on our hearts when the Spirit makes our hearts his temple. It gives us willing hearts to believe in the name of our LORD Jesus Christ which is mercy, kind, steadfast love, and forgiveness. This service of the Spirit, which is faith in Christ Jesus, is permanent. It bestows upon us the kingdom of God. It makes us heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. It overrules our sin, condemnation and death and gives us faith, hope and love. The love of God rules our hearts. If we obey or do the works of the law it is from love and not terror of punishment, for the forgiveness of our sins rules our hearts. We know if we don't do something perfect or just right, the Father's mercy in Christ Jesus overrules whatever condemnation we deserve so we need not fear punishment any longer. It is from faithful, grateful hearts we seek to please our God and Father, knowing we are already pleasing to him by faith in Jesus through the Spirit. Heavenly Father, may your Holy Spirit always engrave upon our hearts the mercy, kindness, steadfast love and forgiveness you have for us in Christ Jesus and when we fail and need discipline do it in the same towards us so we may not be overcome and fall away. #44 A Call to Pastors

Pastors, the Lord has been speaking urgently to me for a couple of days with a message for all of you. Please read and consider carefully. For all believers are being called “for such a time as this.” Esther 4:14

In most of my recent posts on my blog inthespiritofthemind.com about the dynamics of spiritual warfare, I have issued an urgent call to the church to rise up together in unity to fight the spiritual battle going on in the heavenlies around us right now. Well, Pastors, the Lord has been instructing me to speak plainly and directly to you all to heed His word and join the battle.

This word is about the need for the believers to be speaking to the enemy, the principalities and powers, rulers, the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenlies, the darkness we see advancing around the world and across our nation in growing power and evil. Ephesians 6: 12, Ephesians 3:10 You are all aware of the scriptures referring to the devil and the demons active in the earth, but it seems most of you are not prepared to join the fight because of your lack of knowledge concerning this most important part of the believer’s marching orders from God. We must understand that God is spirit just as the enemy is. The words spoken from the holy realm and the evil realm influence our minds and have an effect. The fight is a spiritual one. It is about light which is God and we as believers. We fight the demons in the spiritual realm.

God is Spirit. John 4:24 God’s words created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1, 3, 6, 11 Jesus said His words were spirit and life. John 6:63 Jesus did not speak on His own initiative, but speaks the things His Father taught Him. John 8:28, John 12:49, John 14:10 Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Those that love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21 Our words are very important.

Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8b We are to be doing the same works that Jesus did. John 14:12 Those are the works of the Father. John 14:10b This warfare is ours. 2 Corinthians 10:4 The war is not in the flesh. 2 Corinthians 10:3-4, Ephesians 6:12

Pastors, the enemy, or thief, comes to steal, kill, and destroy. John 10:10 You have heard this before, but have you ever thought about it? Do you know this is true and real? Do you understand that this means the believers? Do you know we are to be doing battle? I understand this has never been a reality to most of you. Therefore, it has never been a reality to the church because neither you nor the people in your church have been taught the truth. Well, you need to hear the truth now! All we have is NOW! We must wake up to the need to do as God has instructed us to do. It’s not about showing up on Sunday, studying a lesson to be prepared for Sunday School, or coming to meetings and activities. Spiritual warfare is when spirits fight. It is not studying or praying. We are spirit when we are born again. We are one spirit with God. We are the spiritual beings fighting the enemy with the Holy Spirit. Spiritual dynamics are happening every split second all the time. And we need to be involved.

Since the virus and quarantine, most of the church meetings have been cancelled thus causing us to lose the attachment to our groups. Then there have been so many other horrible and destructive activities which heighten the awareness of darkness running rampant in the country today. I have seen much on social media talking about the need to do spiritual warfare, that we are in a spiritual battle. The Lord has made it clear that many simply have no training to fight a battle in the spirit. Why? Because the devil, demons, the enemy is never mentioned in church. Sometimes, neither is the Holy Spirit! Pastors, the education of the church, the one church, all believers being the church, one in spirit with God, must happen. You are the ones who must do this. Don’t just talk about the devil and evil to identify what is happening. Learn the tactics of the enemy. Learn what it means to renew the mind. Understand what the battleground is. Otherwise we may lose to the darkness.

Without the attention to the Holy Spirit which we have been given as a helper and without the power and manifestation of the Holy Spirit, we can do nothing. John 14:16, Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 12:7-10 But the Holy Spirit was given and waits to talk with us and talk through us. He needs us to discern where the devil has introduced unholy thoughts and separate our holy thoughts to shine the light of God on the darkness. 2 Corinthians 10:4-6 We must then speak to the darkness, binding it up and casting it out of our souls (mind, emotions and will). Matthew 18:18 The weapons are divinely powerful to the puling down of strongholds and every lofty thing elevating itself (demons) against the knowledge of God (truth).

The devil has blinded the eyes of the believers and deceived us all. Some of us have been blessed with Pastors who know the truth and have taught us to renew our minds to the truth and the darkness. We have been actively casting demons and their lies out of our souls so that we may hear the voice of the Holy Spirit and do warfare for our country and the world.

The unrenewed mind is on defense. A renewed mind is on offense. Demons cannot attack us because we are light in the Lord. Spiritual warfare is light against darkness. There is no defense in light. Darkness cannot attack light. Demons influence and deceive us with lies. We must be renewed in the spirit of the mind. Ephesians 4:23 These lies originate in the spiritual realm and once believed become strongholds in the minds of our souls hindering us from fighting against the demonic realm. They hide their existence and squelch the knowledge of what they are doing. They have effectively hidden our understanding or desire to know the Holy Spirit and be a vessel for living water to flow. We don’t even know we have demons and darkness in our souls!! They have separated the church into divisions called denominations where believers are taught what we believe that is different from other believers. That is not God! That is doctrines of devils. That is a trap by the enemy to short circuit the power of the church against their plans and schemes and methods.

Well, Pastors, God has issued the call to you all! Begin to learn what to do for the battle. Submit your souls to God. Actively resist the devil and he will flee. But you must submit first. James 4:7 The first demon to go from everyone of you is pride. James 4:8 Then there is the spirit of haughty pride which comes with denominations and is actually a spirit which is proud of its pride. Humility is required to admit that you may be wrong in what you believe or teach to the members of your church. Humility is required to submit to God and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you how to train your church group how to fight the evil threatening our country. But it must be done. The gates of hell shall not prevail against the church. The church must rise up and fight the battle!

We will not fail if we enter into the battle with the Holy Spirit inside us. We are one in spirit with God when born again. But our souls still need to be set free. As the Holy Spirit drives the demons out of our souls when we speak what He says to say to them, He is then the occupier/filler of our souls. He wants to fill us with His presence. Ephesians 5:18 We cannot just ask God to do the battle for us. In the Old Covenant the battle was the Lord’s. Now we get to participate. In the New Covenant the battle is ours. According to the instructions to renew the mind in Romans 12:1-2 and Ephesians 4:23, we are to allow the Holy Spirit to help us discern the lies of the enemy in our souls, be revelated to the truth from God, and fight the battle to cast the liars out of our souls. Then in 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 we see that the weapons of our warfare are divinely powerful to the pulling down of strongholds and every lofty thing elevating itself against the knowledge of God. When the strongholds are torn down and the demons are cast out of our souls, we then are instructed to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. This is to determine the origin of every thought, be it holy or unholy. Seeking to be filled with the Holy Spirit is the goal. He has already given us the tools. Salvation means deliverance from conditions and circumstances. We have been reconciled to the Father. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 Our souls need to be free spiritually and be allowing the rivers of living water to flow out to others. We can be the warriors God meant us to be.

I am so grateful to God for the Pastor He has given me. He began training me in the dynamics of spiritual warfare in 1980 while we were both attending seminary. Since that time, he has helped me and countless others to more spiritual freedom than I knew was possible. His ministry has been to set the captives free through deliverance and warfare. Through perseverance and compassion toward the children of God as our leader, he has kept watch over us, giving us an account of our souls. Several years past he shared with us that he asked the Father if he could sing a different tune or change what he preached. God said no. He told my pastor that this was the part that was missing from the church today. God likened this to having a car with a flat tire. He pointed out that to drive the car it was necessary to fix the flat tire. “My people perish for a lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6 “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.” 1 Corinthians 12:1 “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” 2 Corinthians 2:11

For the church today, the necessity is to begin doing spiritual warfare. All men are in bondage the world over, but the Christian has the tools to set all men free. First, help them to be born again. Then help them to renew their minds to be free from demonic intrusion and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Then allow the Holy Spirit to flow through the rivers of living water to the world. Do what Jesus did. Destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8b

Rise up, Pastors! Help the church to rise up! Receive the anointing God has for you! Let His Spirit flow through you!

By the grace of God, I will speak out against sin until the very end. I’ve been called legalistic and heartless multiple times. People misunderstand that speaking out against sin is not condemning those who practice those sins. It’s not my job to condemn. What bothers me so incredibly much is when I see those who fancy themselves SDA here in IG or other social media downplaying the writings of EGW, teaching others to do the same. They treat her as if she’s less inspired than the Bible writers. . But if the Holy Spirit inspired both, how could one be less inspired than the other? . Did Jesus consider John the Baptist to be less inspired than Isaiah? After all, John the Baptist didn’t write any of the Bible, but Isaiah did. But EGW didn’t write in the Bible either. . Ah that’s right. It’s because most of those who downgrade EGW do so because they know her writings condemn some practice in their life and it makes them feel better about their sinful course. . These most precious writings were given to us by God Himself to prepare us for the end time. And if those of us who are SDA reject her writings, or downgrade them due to love of sin, we are not preparing for the soon coming crisis and it will find us unready.
