I don't have formal training in character design, but it has always been a passion of mine. With that said, here is my attempt at designing the Patakis in “The Patakis“ based on what Craig Bartlett has said in interviews. I really wish we could still get this spin-off and see more of Craig's genius.
Slide 1: Depicts a hypothetical punk-rock logo surrounded by doodles.
Slide 2: A look at my designs for Helga's family.
Slide 3: Teen Helga. The goal was to make her tomboyish with a bit of an edge (ripped jeans and hat).
Slide 4: Beeper King Himself. His design was inspired by Craig Bartlett’s notes.
Slide 5: Miriam Pataki. Since she is 12-stepping and working at a T.V. station, I designed Miriam to reflect someone getting back on her feet -- even gave her a sobriety coin (she totally earned it).
Slide 6: Olga Pataki. The trickiest to redesign, but overall, the goal was to make her a bit more mature than before.
What do you guys think? It's still a work in progress, but I hope y'all like them.

Olga and Helga are a strange case concerning the Scapegoat/Golden Child dynamic because Olga does want to be close to her sister but doesn't seem to totally get that the thing standing in the way of that is her parents' blatant favoritism. Neither girl is at fault, but it's hard to get close when your parents fawn over one sibling and ignore the other.

We all strive to have what Olga has according to Helga.
However, we either end up like;
Olga: burnt out and afraid of failure.
Helga: angry at the majority of the world but also trying to fix it any way possible
Bob: angry at the whole world and doing little to change it.
Miriam: miserable and numb to everything as you stare down the bottom of a bottle.

In case you didn’t know, teen Helga and her family were supposed to have a spin-off years ago called “The Patakis.” If you’d like to see it greenlit, consider signing the petition at https://tinyurl.com/operationthepatakis!
The song Olga played on the piano was Mephisto Waltz No. 1 S. 514. Don’t be fooled because it says waltz!
Lastly, to the Golden Children out there, you are more than enough as you are! Don’t take others’ expectations of you as yours.

Is Helga and Olga Pataki's relationship comparable to Zuko and Azula's?
I haven't looked at Hey Arnold since I was a kid so I really can't say. The only thing I remember about that show is that Helga was kind of mean, she had a crush on Arnold (which was why she was mean to him), and she had the tendency to call him "football head".
