This panel from chapter 51.5 is haunting me nonstop

We clearly see that something happened to the town/village he is from (or a neighbouring one, still unclear).

(And damn he looks so small in his big fluffy wintercoat, I want to wrap him up and coddle him and protect him from everything bad)

and he was already considered someone dependable, even at such a young age. They came to him for help!

Did they only came to him because he was the only available witch in this area? Or actually the most talented one? He is a prodigy after all, so he must have had a very good reputation already.

But with such a reputation come a lot of expectations as well.

An Olruggio is not happy, not at all. People died, for whatever reason (a coldspell? Not enough food?) and he blames himself that he couldn´t do more.

No matter that he was just a child, prodigy or not.

But this moment in his life made him into someone who wants to help as much as he can - creating a workaholic par excellence. So he can "make up" for the victimes of this disaster, to make sure he never fails anyone again.

That he is drawn from the back here is a clear sign how much it still troubles him but he doesn´t want anyone to see. This man struggles but puts his own worries aside ("They are not as important, others suffer more" etc.)

I wonder how often he actually dreams about his past still?

And then we come to this point: Olruggio goes outside and creates this famous, beautiful light-deers:

ofc everyone loves it and then we have this question from Coco:

"What is the purpose of this magic?"

And Olly responds:

What he is really saying here is that he needed a distraction. He is someone who can deal and sort out his feelings better if he has something to do. Here comes his adamant need to be helpful (making contraptions etc.) into it as well.

This time he is only drawing for himself though and because he is in turmoil from his nightmare he needs to be extra specific and detailed in his drawings.

He tries to channel his emotions into this drawing and look how beautiful it turned out! Even in sadness he creates beauty and comfort.

And he knows this. Look at that man, at these eyes full of emotions.

He is aware of his own feelings and why he did it - even if he doesn´t want to admit it to the kids.
