so if you haven't watched Yowamushi Pedal
a sweet sweet Otaku ends up conscripted into the cycling/bike racing club because he can haul ass on his heavy ass omafiets/grandma-style bike up the hill to the school that's insanely steep.
He's super good at biking because he bikes a super long distance to get to his local anime and comics shop.
And his biggest goal is to just get these guys that are so revved up about cycling to watch some anime with him and it's so freaking sweet yall please watch it!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
It's also on Netflix so there's that option too.

CW: bicycle nerd post geared towards Americans
This is my iron horse. I gave up my car years ago and this is how I get around. Do I recommend doing this in the US? Nope. Unless you live in one of the few cycling friendly places in the nation (I don't), then you are signing up for a life of elevated stress levels with associated long-term health effects, driver aggression, and frequent near-death experiences. Assuming you can even find a decent bicycle for the purpose. Most bicycles sold in North America that aren't department store garbage are geared towards sport, not utility, except E-bikes, which can be kind of a mixed bag in terms of components.
I used to commute 30 miles (48km) a day by bicycle (not this one). Never again. I'll never be able to forget the things that happened. It's short hauls for me now.
This is a Rivendell Clem Smith Jr L. It looks like a Dutch omafiet but is not. It is lighter, faster, springier, and more expensive, and in return it can't carry as much weight, or fit cheaper Dutch bike parts without modification, but has better brakes. I modified a standard Dutch rear carrier to fit it, and slapped on some grocery panniers. I'd like to run a sprung saddle but the seat tube is too tall.
The carrier and panniers I purchased from hollandbikeahop.com. Even with international shipping, they are far cheaper than anything I could get here, as are most of the parts. I can fit an entire cart of groceries in the panniers, but the bicycle frame is so flexible that it tends to make the handling kind of crap. It really needs stronger wheels for that anyway. I'd also really like to put a Rohloff hub and a Gates belt drive in it, but I'd have to put a cutout in the right chainstay.
You can get Dutch bicycles here but, if you live in a hilly place, you really need one with rim or disk brakes, as the typical roller, drum, or coaster brakes that they come with aren't strong enough. If you can find a framebuilder or the like, you can have V-brake studs or disc tabs welded on.
Also, you can't carry big loads with these. You'll need either a trailer or another type of cargo bicycle called a bakfiets or a longjohn. There are videos on YouTube showing how to cheaply make your own, because they are quite expensive to purchase.

Mens cycling shorts in Sydney
If you're looking for men's cycling shorts in Sydney, there are several options available to you. Here are a few places you can check out:
Local Sporting Goods Stores: Sydney has numerous sporting goods stores that offer a range of cycling gear, including cycling shorts. Stores like Rebel Sport, Decathlon, and 99 Bikes are worth checking out.
Bike Shops: Many dedicated bike shops in Sydney carry a wide selection of cycling apparel, including shorts. These shops often have knowledgeable staff who can help you find the right fit and style for your needs. Some popular bike shops in Sydney include Clarence St Cyclery and Omafiets Dutch Bicycles.
Online Retailers: You can also explore online retailers such as Wiggle, Chain Reaction Cycles, and Pushys. These websites offer a broad range of cycling clothing, and you can easily filter your search to find men's cycling shorts.
Cycling Clubs and Events: Local cycling clubs and events often have members who are passionate about cycling gear and can recommend good places to purchase cycling shorts. Joining a local cycling group or participating in cycling events can be a great way to connect with fellow cyclists and get recommendations.
Department Stores: Some department stores like Myer and David Jones may carry a selection of sports and cycling gear, including cycling shorts.
When looking for cycling shorts, consider factors such as the type of cycling you'll be doing (road, mountain, casual), the length of rides, and personal preferences for padding and fit. Make sure to try on different styles and brands to find the one that's most comfortable for you.

Windsor > Oma
We spent December in Sydney visiting family. I packed a tent and made plans to do some camping but we didn't bring bikes and after a couple of weeks I started getting the itch to go riding. Luckily I got in touch with local bike shop Omafiets who were able to rent us out a couple of Surly Bridge Club touring bikes complete with some helmets and Ortileb panniers. Whats more they also had some nice looking routes on their site, so we decided to do the Two Pub Tour and stopped off at Umina Beach to visit my Oma on the way home. It ended up being a great choice – after a 1 hour train ride that only cost a couple of dollars we were off for a few days of beautiful riding, funny encounters with friendly locals and some nice pub meals – the proper small town experience.

[2022-09-03] Awaichi - Awaji Full Circle (Cycling) https://www.relive.cc/view/vrqDAJk3pwv Awaichi. One of the most popular cycling routes of Japan. It's a full circle around Awaji island, which is relatively close to where I live. Back when I had a standard mamachari (in Dutch we'd call this an omafiets), I did not have the courage to even attempt going for a 150km in a single run. But now with my fancy pedal assisted e-bike, I had to give it a try. And not only am I cheating with my bike, I'm also stretching it over two days instead of one. But it's the experience that counts! Thank the gods that the weather was amazing... Actually perhaps a little bit too amazing, I almost felt the water in my body vaporizing. Along the road I didn't have any particular sites that I wanted to visit, but I did make some detours here and there, one of them being the Oishi Park. This park is a designated Setonaikai National Park as it contains the remains of Oishiyama Batteries. After the hike, I stayed for the night at an elementary school that was revamped into an agricultural museum. Not something you hear everyday. I have to say, sleeping in a school building is pretty exciting. The second hike detour was to the Wakoudonohiroba Park, where there's a monument erected for students who have fallen in war. Not sure if the museum is normally free to enter; it just happened to be free when I visted. The scenery is amazing so I definitely recommend stopping by if you ever try this cycling route. The last half of the route, I was mostly just wanting to finish the challenge and go home. Despite all the cheats enabled, my body wasn't used to this amount of exercise in a short amount of time. And not just my body; I wasn't even sure if the battery would last (it definitely wouldn't if it was just 1 day). But, somehow I managed to finish the full circle and record it perfectly for Relive. A memory that will last an eternity.
