The Legacy of Muslim-Jewish Relations: A History of Protection, Coexistence, and Religious Freedom
Tumblr media
Throughout history, the relationship between Muslims and Jews has been characterised by a remarkable tapestry of cooperation, coexistence, and protection. It’s a story that reflects the foundational principles of Islam — religious freedom, tolerance, and the fight against oppression. From the earliest days of Islamic civilisation to some of the darkest periods in history, Muslims have stood as protectors and allies of the Jewish community, creating sanctuaries and offering support when needed most.
Opening of Jerusalem
One of the pivotal moments showcasing this bond was the opening of Jerusalem by Caliph Omar. In 637 CE, upon the city’s conquest, Omar, known for his humility and tolerance, granted religious freedom to all inhabitants, including Jews, securing their rights to worship and live in the city peacefully. This act laid the groundwork for a tradition of religious tolerance under Islamic rule.
The Reconquista
During the Reconquista and subsequent expulsion of Muslims & Jews from Spain, Muslims across various regions, especially under Ottoman rule, provided refuge to the fleeing Jewish communities. The Ottomans, known for their policy of religious pluralism, welcomed Jews seeking sanctuary, allowing them to thrive and contribute to society. Cities like Isfahan became centers of Jewish life and culture, where Jews enjoyed safety and opportunities.
The cultural exchange and intellectual collaboration between Jews and Muslims were exemplified in Bayt al-Hikma, where Jewish translators were instrumental in translating and preserving ancient texts. They were valued and paid handsomely for their contributions, reflecting the recognition of knowledge and expertise regardless of religious affiliation.
Influential Jewish Figures
In Cordoba, during the era of Muslim Spain, a Jewish prime minister, Hasdai ibn Shaprut, held a position of power and influence, demonstrating the inclusive nature of the society where meritocracy prevailed over religious differences.
Musa bin Maymun, or Maimonides, remains a towering figure in both Jewish and Islamic scholarship. His philosophical and medical works were influential in shaping the intellectual landscape of both communities, showcasing the shared heritage and mutual respect for learning.
WWII
Amidst the turmoil of World War II, when the Nazis sought to exterminate Jews, Muslim leaders like Sultan Muhammed V of Morocco defied the oppressors by refusing to hand over Jewish citizens. This courageous stance saved thousands of lives, illustrating the commitment to protect the oppressed, irrespective of faith.
In a poignant display of solidarity, imams of mosques in France sheltered and saved Jews during the Nazi occupation. These acts of heroism emphasised the shared values of compassion, humanity, and the rejection of injustice, transcending religious boundaries.
The history of Muslims protecting and supporting Jews is a testament to the intrinsic principles of Islam — justice, compassion, and religious freedom. It serves as a reminder of the deep-rooted connections between these communities and the importance of standing together against oppression, fostering a world where all can live and flourish in peace and harmony.

Córdoba
II. The following Two great Abd al Rahman
Repentant and apologetic, Al Hakam I, as said earlier, put his kindest and wisest son as a successor. This kind and wise son was Abd al Rahman II (the middle one)(822-852 AC.).
Tumblr media
Garden in Spain
Abd al Rahman II (the middle one)(822-852 AC.)
He would prove to be the best gift Al Hakam II could ever give to the citizens of al Andalus. Abd al Rahman (the middle one) reorganised the country's economy and made sure that there were no poor people in al Andalus. As most of the Umayyad Emirs, he had a love for knowledge, he promoted scholars and academics, which is why we heard about scholars like Abbas ibn Firnas during his rule.
Abbas ibn Firnas; inventor of glass, the first airplane, devices to tell time, and the father of the predecessor of the pen.
Abd al Rahman II also fought a constant battle with the christian northern provinces. In his reign, Seville was attacked by Vikings, and as a result of this attack he ordered the construction of the so-called “Great wall of Seville”. This wall was built as extra protection to the already existing wall to safeguard the city and the “Guadalquivir” river and its outflow in the atlantic ocean.
Another accomplishment worth mentioning is the introduction of a new irrigation system which was a genius invention at the time. He was also responsible for paving all the streets in the country. After 30 years of successful rule, Abd el Rahman the “middle one” died, and with his death came a steep decline in the country.
* Muhammad I
(852-886 AC.)
* Al Mundir
(886-888 AC.) only ruled for two years
* Abd Allah
(888-912 AC.) Grandfather of Abd al Rahman III, as his son Muhammad II died before taking the throne.
Tumblr media
Medina Azahara, Córdoba
Abd al Rahman III (the victorious)(912-961 AC., The first calipha)
Top of the glory:
After several weak rulers, and years of focus on side issues, the country was falling apart. Abd Allah had seen his son and successor Muhammad II die an early death, he then put all his hopes and energy in raising his grandson; Abd al Rahman the victorious.
In the history of al Andalus, there were three Emirs called Abd al Rahman, all of which were the greatest rulers of the country. It is difficult to compare one to another, all three were extremely good rulers, wise and kind. All of them brought great fortune, peace and prosperity to the county. Each and every one of them got a nickname, and were loved by the citizens. Nevertheless, the accomplishments of the last Abd al Rahman, the victorious, were something else altogether.
Rise to the throne:
When Abd al Rahmen III rose to the throne instead of his father, he was only 22 years old. As previously mentioned, he was educated by his grandfather, Abd Allah ibn Muhammed, who succeeded well in raising him. Abd al Rahman III was well educated, and had a lot of self-confidence.
The situation in the country, on the other hand, was in ruins. Very little remained of the great al Andalus, and many provinces had claimed independence from the rest of the country. It was time to reorganise and reunite al andalus.
Abd al Rahmen III started with substituting Córdobas corrupt officials. The second step was dealing with the governor of Seville, Omar ibn Hafsun, who had taken matters into his own hands, and confiscated part of the country’s army for himself. He had gone even further and became independent from the rest of the country, earning his living trading with Morocco and the christian northern provinces. Abd al Rahman’s army disconnected his roots to Morocco and the north, in an attempt to cut Omar off his supplies. After months of struggle, the negotiations started and Omar soon gave in.
Seville and Jaén once again joined al Andalus. The provinces north of Córdoba that also were independent, were having constand wars with León and Navarra (the christian provinces). As a clever way of winning their trust, Abd al Rahman, brought his army, and joined the fight on the Muslims side.
Together they fought off the enemy, and the northern provinces came to the realisation that they could not survive alone. Finally they understood who their real enemy was. Shortly after, they too joined the rest of al Andalus.
Great Achievements:
With the wise tactics, fights, and diplomacy, Abd al Rahman the victorious succeeded in reuniting the whole country back to its original size, as it was in the time of general Musa. Even Aragon (Barcelona, etc.), were won back (they were lost under Al Hakam I’s rule). The last surprise was when he brought his army to fight the “Northern Provinces”.
After 6 months of battle, Abd al Rahman's army achieved great victory, and the losing provinces now agreed on paying Gizia (explained in II: Part 1).
All of these achievements were accomplished before Abd al Rahman was 33 years of age.
What he had achieved so far was exceptional and significant, and it would be more than enough to make him a prominent illustrious ruler, but Abd al Rahman's accomplishments did not stop here. Córdoba under his rule would perhaps have been the second largest city in the world, with half a million inhabitants. Baghdad, the world's most populated city, counted 2 million.
He increased the cultivation of fruits, cotton, wheat, and more. Something peculiar is that he ordered that each article had its own market, thus, one market for meat, one for gold, one for flowers, etc.
The police system was reorganised and there was a special department for the day, and another for the night. A special one for businesses, and one for marine police.
The library of Córdoba was expanded from having 4,000 books, to possessing 400,000 books. Furthermore, he instructed the copying of books by scribers, to facilitate the obtention of books for scholars and others and in that way spreading knowledge.
The presence of researchers was a new phenomenon developed during the Abd al Rahman III era. He oversaw the construction of the city of Zahra, and its castles. The city was built for everyone; workers, scholars, and of course, the castle was for the Emir and his family.
The construction of mosques also saw its climax, and the city of cordoba alone counted 3,000 mosques in that time.
The rise of the Ottomas:
Back to the Abbasids, who took the power and assassinated the Umayyads, with time, they had become weak, and the Ottomans (turkey) took over, this time, Abd al Rahman saw his chance, and declared independence from the Ottoman empire, and became himself, Andalucías first Calipha. At the end of Abd al Rahman the victorious’s reign, he even added Septa and Tangier to the list of provinces he had won, and they became united with al Andalus.
He was satisfied and peaceful. When Abd al Rahman took his last breath, Córdoba was called “The diamond of the world”. Al Andalus had now, thanks to him, become the strongest country in the world.
Tumblr media
Mezquita catedral de córdoba
Al Hakam II (961-976 AC.)
The son of Abd al Rahman the Victorious was, as many of his forefathers, extremely interested in knowledge, books and education. As many of his predecessors, he surrounded himself with scholars.
During his reign, the great library of Córdoba had as many books as the library of Baghdad. The whole western world came to al Andalus for knowledge. Most of the kings of european countries, sent their children to study at al Andaluz, all the different subjects were given in Arabic, as Arabic was the world’s leading language.
Another interesting detail, as the men were busy with work, the women were the ones that studied more, and were exceptionally well educated. Furthermore, there was no one in al Andalus that was illiterate, everyone could read and write.
In the time of Hakam II, all Morocco united with al Andalus, not as a result of war, but because of the greatness of the country. Al hakam II, it has to be said, was not a great army leader, in that aspect he lived and died in the shadow of the great achievements of his father, the great Abd al Rahman.
* Hisham II
(976-1009 AC.)
* Al Mansor
(976-1009 AC.)
Conclusion:
The glory and prosperity in al Andalus had now reached its peak. Never before, or after, had the iberian peninsula experienced similar stability, prosperity, and wealth in all aspects of life.
Health, education, trade, cultivation, construction (of new cities), roads, ships, harbours, bridges, paved streets, locks, dams etc. Beauty (gardens, castles, and mosques) and new inventions.
All the different religious groups (muslims, jews, christians), ethnical groups and/or races of the society (arabs, berber, original spaniards, etc.), lived together in harmony, without discrimination; something that we could still learn from today.
The iberian peninsula had become a paradise on earth, and al Andalus the strongest country in the world!
When reaching the top, there is only one way forwards, downwards. With great beauty comes great pain.

UAE Designates American Muslim Groups CAIR & MAS Terrorist Organizations
Posted on November 16, 2014
Tumblr media
Why hasn’t the U.S. done the same? Will Fox News and other media outlets give CAIR a platform now that they are designated terrorists alongside al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Hizbollah, ISIS and CAIR’s parent organization the Muslim Brotherhood? Probably.
via UAE Designates Two American Muslim Groups As Terrorist Orgs | The Daily Caller.
The United Arab Emirates has officially designated 83 groups as terrorist organizations, including two based in the U.S., the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Muslim American Society.
UAE’s cabinet made the announcement following a meeting on Saturday.
Other groups designated as terrorists include al-Qaida, al Nusra, Boko Haram and the Muslim Brotherhood.
CAIR’s designation is interesting given its high profile here in the U.S.
The group was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation case in 2007. Leaders of the Holy Land Foundation were found guilty of aiding Hamas, which the U.S. has designated as a terrorist organization.
Starting in 2008, the FBI adopted a strict policy against dealing with CAIR in its investigations. Last year, the Department of Justice inspector general issued a report showing that the FBI had in some instances failed to maintain that arms-length requirement.
According to Reuters, which reported on UAE’s new terrorist designations, the country is at odds with Qatar over the latter’s relationship with Islamist groups, including the Muslim Brotherhood.
In the Holy Land foundation case, CAIR was listed as a member of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee.
The Muslim American Society (MAS), founded in 1993, also has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. A 2004 Chicago Tribune article laid out how MAS was created in secret by U.S. Muslim Brotherhood leaders who feared attention being drawn to some of their members who were supportive of Hamas.

omg whats gonna be your next fic about? also still not over the one you posted you’re truly amazing
aww truly thank you
my next fic is actually a passion project
I’ve always been fascinated by the Muslims and their culture in Spain. They were so enlightened, and their cities were metropolitan areas in Spain. Idk when I decided to write a fic set in al-Andalus, but once I decided, I began reading up on the Emirate of Cordoba.
And I was like floored. Honestly, al-Andalus sounds so rad.
So yeah, I’m writing a fic set in the late 10th century, mainly in Cordoba but also southern Spain. It has elements of magical realism in it as well--with ppl able to see visions and tales of dragons--because it’s a soulmate au and i like magical realism.
I’m really really fucking excited about it. Today I read some academic things on Cordoba, the great mosque, Abd Al-Rahman III. I also watched a documentary about the Moors in Spain.
Before, I read about Al-Mansur, Abd Al-Rahman I, and the establishment of al-Andalus. I’m fucking fascinated by all of it. I used to be really into medieval European history before I became a classicist, and I’ve always been real mad about how the Moors and the Jewish population were treated after the Reconquista and during the Spanish Inquisition. This idea of writing something set in the height of Cordoba’s success makes me jittery with excitement.
Did you know there were trilingual schools in al-Andalus, where people spoke Spanish, Arabic and Latin?
I get goosebumps thinking about it!!!!
There’s going to be a lot of fanciful writing about Muslim Spain in this fic.
RN I’m at 7k, Omar and Ander HAVE MET, but obviously to magnify angst, they will not learn that they are soulmates until the end of the fic.

BDRPWriMo Task #21 -- A list of 10+ characters you’d like to see in the RP
Any fc ideas I put are ofc hypothetical lmao
SO HEEERE is a list of 10+ characters I selfishly want to see here! Yes a ton of the open Elena of Avalor characters are on the list but! That’s not all!
1. Olivia da Silva (fc suggestions by McKala: Marina Nery, Bruna Tenorio, Barbie Ferreira, Cierra Ramirez)
I made this skeleton woowoo! Come play an Avaloran character! A young sorceress honing her craft! Worldbuild Avalor with me, yaaaay! I put Brazilian-preferred on the skeleton for fc suggestions because the Avalor we’ve crafted in game is a bilingual society in South America with Portuguese and Spanish influence about equally. It’s not requiiired, like you can change her last name to be Spanish and not Portuguese, but! I tracked down a ton of Brazilian fcs with resources so you don’t even have to hunt! Below the list of Brazilian fcs, I also have non-Brazilian fcs listed.
Tumblr media
2. Professor Guadalupe “Lupe” Mendoza (fc suggestions by McKala: Gina Torres, Charo Bogarin, Jessica Alba, Velina Hsau Houston, Lana Parrilla)
COME PLAY A COOL AVALORAN WOOOO
Join me in Avalor world! Lupe Mendoza is so cooool, she’s a professor, a scholar, a genius, a really cool lady forced to flee Avalor because of the new dictatorship.
Tumblr media
4. Jasmine (fc suggestions by McKala: SO MANY. including Claudia Doumit,  Njoud Al Shammari, Dalal AlDoub,  Adila Sedraïa, Sonita Alizadeh)
I’m honestly shook Jasmine’s not taken yet y’all! She’s a great character, you can go so many diff directions with her and HEL-LO worldbuilding!
Tumblr media
5. Aladdin! (fc suggestions by McKala: Derrick Monasterio, Toni Mahfud)
Y’all again! Think of the worldbuilding you’d get to do with Agrabah!
Tumblr media
6. Li Shang (fc suggestions by McKala: Shawn Dou, Lewis Tan, Osric Chau)
Y’all how do we not have all the Mulan characters yet??? But I would pay someone physical money for a Li Shang ahhhhh
Free URL for you - thetimes-theyare-ashangin
Tumblr media
7. Jafar (fc suggestions by McKala: JOHN ABRAHAM omfg, Omar Lofti, Adrian Pasdar)

Tumblr media
9. Alonso Cordoba (fc suggestions by McKala: Taylor Zakhar, Diego Tinoco, Maluma, Rafael De La Fuente)
Come play the snobby Avaloran noble turned refugee, childhood frenemy/pain in the ass of Princess Elena! Join Avalor Squad and get a piece of Avalor worldbuilding. Help me develop the Avaloran nobility, the pop culture, the youth culture. Being from Avalor is a cool enough plot, with the coup and civil conflict now, but being nobility? With a potential connection to the princesses? Woooo!
Tumblr media
10. Armando Salinas (fc suggestions by McKala: tricky, bc he has to be Latinx and body diverse, but I have three possible ideas in mind and I can make gifs for them! They’re Harvey Guillen and Erik Griffin.
Wow there HAS to be more body diverse Latinx men out there. But!!! Join the Avalor party y’all!
Tumblr media
11. Cristina Elizaga - FCs by McKala: Tamara Mena, Annie Elainey (non-binary, so must be non-binary), Kallyna Sampaio

BDRPWriMo Task #21
I did one part of this task already, 10+ characters I’d like to play. Now this list, will be 10+ I’d love someone else to play!
Any fc ideas I put are ofc hypothetical lmao
SO HEEERE is a list of 10+ characters I selfishly want to see here! Yes all o fthe open Elena of Avalor characters are on the list but! That’s not all!
1. Arista Triton (fc suggestions by McKala: Loey Lane, Johanna Braddy, Iskra Lawrence)
Someone bring me my twiiiiin! Complete the Triton family, y’all! We’re so close! And really don’t take my fc suggestion too serious - as in, serious at ALL. I just like making fc idea lists when I’m bored. I wanted to attach potential fcs to all my Wanted Characters in case somebody was considering the characters but were stumped for ideas.
Ask Avarick, Sam, Lauren, and Kiara- I am always down to make a fc list.
Tumblr media
2. Haley Long (fc suggestions by McKala: Chou Tzuyu, Wong Viian, Cao Lu)
Another teen! A dragon! HOW COOL. Give Pet her baby sister 2k19
Tumblr media
3. Jafar (fc suggestions by McKala: JOHN ABRAHAM omfg, Omar Lofti, Adrian Pasdar)
Now that Arawn’s dead (rip), Swynlake needs a new evil sorcerer! And it’s a chance to do some cool worlbuilding for Agrabah, like Team Avalor’s done with Avalor!
Tumblr media
4. Jasmine (fc suggestions by McKala: SO MANY. including Njoud Al Shammari, Dalal AlDoub,  Adila Sedraïa, Sonita Alizadeh, Claudia Doumit)
I’m honestly shook Jasmine’s not taken yet y’all! She’s a great character, you can go so many diff directions with her and HEL-LO worldbuilding!
Tumblr media
5. Star Butterfly (fc suggestions by McKala: Prilly Latuconsina, Kiana Lede, Rola, Liza Koshy, Normani Kordei, Anastasia Tsilimpiou, Zara Larsson)
Y’all, again. The worldbuilding! Potential! Here! you can make her a magical princess from a another dimension how DOPE
Tumblr media
6. Alonso Cordoba (fc suggestions by McKala: Taylor Zakhar, Diego Tinoco, Maluma, Carlos Valdes, Rafael De La Fuente)
7. Armando Salinas (fc suggestions by McKala: tricky, bc he has to be Latinx and body diverse, but I have three possible ideas in mind and I can make gifs for them! They’re Harvey Guillen, Andrew Garcia, and Erik Griffin.
Wow there HAS to be more body diverse Latinx men out there. But!!! Join the Avalor party y’all!
Tumblr media
8. Taranee Cook!!!! (fc suggestions by McKala: Karidja Touré, China Anne McClain, Sammi Maria)
H O W are the guardians still just me and Silv? Come grab Taranee, Cornelia ,and Hay Lin for a w e s o m e plots, woooo!
Tumblr media
9. Hay Lin!!!! (fc suggestions by McKala: Janice Wu, Lauren Tsai, Brianne Tju)
Join me and Silv! Play a Guardian! Travel across diff dimensions, weeeeee! Have the power of WIND, WOW
Tumblr media
10. Cornelia Hale !! ! ! (fc suggestions by McKala: Ludovica Martino, Lulu Antariska, Zara Larsson, Liana Liberato)
Again! Come play one of the remaining three guardians of the veil. Corny has the power of EARTH, how NEATO is that!?
Tumblr media
11. Professor Guadalupe “Lupe” Mendoza (fc suggestions by McKala: Rosario Dawson, Charo Bogarin, Jessica Alba, Velina Hsau Houston, Lana Parrilla)
COME PLAY A COOL AVALORAN WOOOO
Join me in Avalor world! Lupe Mendoza is so cooool, she’s a professor, a scholar, a genius, a really cool lady forced to flee Avalor because of the new dictatorship. I wrote her, Armando, Alonso, and the other upcoming Avalor skeletons wooooowooooo
Tumblr media
12. Aladdin! (fc suggestions by McKala: Derrick Monasterio, Toni Mahfud, Jade Hassoune)
Y’all again! Think of the worldbuilding you’d get to do with Agrabah!
Tumblr media
13. Li Shang (fc suggestions by McKala: Shawn Dou, Lewis Tan, Osric Chau)
Y’all how do we not have any Mulan characters yet??? But I would pay someone physical money for a Li Shang ahhhhh Free URL for you - thetimes-theyare-ashangin
Tumblr media
14. Olivia da Silva (fc suggestions by McKala: Marina Nery, Bruna Marzenique, Bruna Tenorio, Barbie Ferreira, Cierra Ramirez)
I tracked down a ton of Brazilian fcs with resources so!

The Red Building project was conceived as an icon in reference to the image of the company. Starting from the restructuring of an old house and adding new surface, it was possible to respond to a complex program that responds stratified to the operation of the company.
Located in front of a green space, all the visuals were used without losing the necessary privacy. A double skin was generated, a filter that gives character to the façade and highlights it from the environment using color as a defining element in the design and impact of the building, transforming it into a disruptive element without a doubt.
It was conceived as a dynamic organism in movement – changing and it was achieved by incorporating motorized shutters included in the double skin of perforated plates in different densities and sizes that give rhythm and allow the image and permeability of the facade to be mutated according to the needs or the requirements of the moment.
4 floors articulated by a vertical circulation core with natural lighting in all its spaces provide a high degree of quality and spatial warmth, a fundamental design premise.
The expansion and service spaces as well as the meeting areas on each floor ensure a controlled movement of personnel. The building was conceived as a reference beacon with international projection, reflecting the spirit and essence of the company, managing to establish itself in the environment with firmness and personality.

Yo no tengo ninguna intención política y no quiero cargos.
