Mist Memories

Leo Valdez x reader for his birthday ahhhh (even though it's angsty) with a platonic/developing jason x reader cameo at the end (lmao im sorry i couldn't help myself 😭)

Based on this picture I found in pinterest + also [kinda] based on traitor by olivia rodrigo and omg i really recommend u guys listen to this edit because it reminds me so much of this fic that's been stuck in my head for MONTHS also kind of a run away with me prologue lol

Your POV

I nervously made my way across the forest until I reached a limestone cliff. I knocked on the iron door, not really expecting to get an answer.

My boyfriend has been shutting himself in Bunker 9 for the past few weeks. I stood there counting up to seven before knocking again. I knocked again two more times, until he answered in the middle of my last knock.

He removed his goggles and winced as sunlight hit his eyes. He'd grown thinner and paler, making the dark circles in his eyes more pronounced.

"Oh, Leo..." I reached out to brush a few strands of hair away from his face, but he moved away.

"What are you doing here?" He said in a monotone voice.

I moved to walk inside the Bunker, brushing off his hesitation to let me in. "I'm your partner, remember? And I'm really concerned because you're shutting yourself out lately. You know everyone's starting to worry about you. Percy asked me to check on you because you missed pegasus riding with him. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Jason's coming back from Camp Jupiter soon. I was hoping you and Annabeth could be with Piper while Percy and I hung out with Jason because it's been a little awkward since their breakup. Plus Piper wanted to tell you something—"

"Please," he said forcefully causing me to stop and look at him. "Just... Get out."

Normally, he'd shut himself from the world for a few days to work on an important project or because he was feeling really sad and he needed space. But this was getting out of hand. He had never locked me out of his life when I offered to help him. He was never this mean when he asked for space. I was not having this attitude of his.

"Okay, Leo. I tried to play nice. What is so important that you blow off all your friends for nearly a month that you can't even tell your partner, or maybe say hi to your best friend who's coming back from the other side of the country?"

He didn't say anything. He pursed his lips and avoided eye contact. I scanned he room for any signs.

It was messier than usual with all the crumpled paper scattered on the floor, especially on his desk. He could have been drawing up new plans. Something in my gut told me that something wasn't right. There were no new unfinished projects, indicating that he wasn't starting a new invention. Harley's helicopter lay on his bench in the same state it was weeks ago. Huh, not even his siblings could enter the Bunker.

I turned and Leo was already changing Festus' oil. I took this moment of distraction to pick up a few pieces of crumpled paper on the floor and on his desk. I had to process the words a bit longer—too long that Leo took notice. Damn dyslexia.

I heard footsteps speed up behind me, but it was too late. I read enough and got the gist of what he had been trying to do these past few weeks.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" He yelled at me. Small embers started to erupt between his curls.

I laughed dryly. "So this is what you've been up to?"

His fists tightened, further crumpling the paper in his hands. His eyes flashed with anger, despair and confusion.

I sighed and focused my eyes on his desk, not daring to look at him any longer. Under some pieces of paper were old photographs of him and Piper from Wilderness School. Yup, those definitely were the mist memories she had with Jason. I read the latest draft he'd been writing:

Dear Piper,

Remember the mist memories from boarding school with Jason? They were real, but they were with me.

I miss you. I miss when it was just us. I miss the night on the roof.

I tried to keep my voice from cracking. "How long?"

I heard him sigh. "Three weeks."

I balled my fists. Tears started to fall and smudge the ink. I wiped them away as fast as they came.

"How?"

"In a dream," his tone softened now. "Hera came to me in a dream and told me to check an old drawer in Bunker 9. I found the photos and the memories came rushing back."

"How long were you dating back then?"

"Two weeks."

"Were you ever going to tell me?"

Silence; then a deep breath.

"No."

I shook my head in disbelief. "Why?"

"Because I knew you'd get upset like—"

"I meant why would you throw away months of our relationship for a couple of weeks of your relationship with her? And without even bothering to tell me? Gods damn it, Leo. We've been together since you've first arrived at camp. And what about those promises you made when we were sailing to Greece? You've been keeping these feelings away from me and you've been lying to me, making me believe that there's still something between us and—"

"Oh, calm down," he said with an annoyed expression and tone, which only infuriated me more, "it's not like I did anything were her yet! I didn't kiss her or tell her how I truly felt for her! She just got out of a relationship with Jason around the same time I had that dream. I had to figure out how to talk to her about it. I've been alone in this Bunker for three. Fucking. Weeks. I didn't cheat on you."

"Oh, and that makes everything better?" I countered. "Being in a relationship isn't about not cheating, Leo. It's about being honest and communicating with each other."

"Oh, like you've been communicating with me? After the war, you take go back to Manhattan for school, and you take a job. I haven't seen you much during the holidays because work has been keeping you in the city. And you won't tell me what you even do for a living!"

I took in a deep breath. "I told you I needed to have a life outside of camp! I needed to know first that I could handle myself in the mortal world as a normal human being. I needed this demigod part of my life to be separate as much as possible! I've been in two wars, Leo. I needed time to myself, too. And I was about to tell you guys in a few more days. But I guess now, I'm glad I've kept you out of that part of my life. At least I have an escape from all of this. And now, especially from you."

I took another deep breath and walked to the door, about to let myself out. I turned back again, both our tear-stained eyes meeting each other.

"If it makes you feel any better," I said softly, "I would've hated the idea of us breaking up. But if you really love her, if you really feel like you have this special connection to her and she makes you happy, then I won't get in your way. You could at least have had the decency to talk to me so we could have left on a good note."

He looked at me with wide eyes, clearly regretting his actions. I sighed and looked around the Bunker, possibly for the last time. Lots of memories were definitely created in this room; all just as grand and meaningful as the inventions they made here. But just like some of Hephaestus' contraptions, some of them were flawed and dumped in his scrapyard, no matter how much potential it could have had.

"Goodbye, Leo."

I sat on a rock on the beach that gave me a beautiful view of Long Island Sound. To my left, the sun started to set, casting an orange filter on everything. My heart broke, remembering how everything glowed orange in the Bunker. Leo always left the fires burning when he was working. The sunlight twinkling against the sea reminded me of how small bits of flame peaked through his hair earlier. I remembered how mad he was at me. Or maybe he was mostly mad at himself.

"Hey."

I jumped when someone sat—or rather, landed—beside me. I turned and smiled, seeing one of my good friends back at camp.

"Hey, you're back," I said weakly. "How long have you been here?"

He smiled at me, although he could maybe sense that something was wrong. "Half an hour, maybe? I saw Annabeth making plans to expand camp to have a city. She made me do an aerial inspection and I told her I'll get back to her tonight. That's when I saw you."

"Mhmm," I mumbled, not really knowing what to say. It was silent for a few minutes before I spoke up again, knowing he was just waiting for me to open up.

"I broke up with Leo."

His head quickly turned to me. I guess he wasn't expecting it to be that bad. "What?"

"Oh yeah," I laughed dryly. "Turns out the mist memories Piper had in Wilderness School with you? They were real. But not with you."

His eyes widened. "Oh... With Leo."

"He locked himself in the Bunker for weeks trying to write a letter. It was heartbreaking. Like, truly heartbreaking. He wanted to tell her how much he missed her and how much he missed them. Then he said how much he missed that night with her under the stars and... It hurt. Like hell."

"Oh," he said. "I guess Piper didn't tell me everything then."

"She knew all along?"

He shook his head. "Maybe not everything, but she told me she's been confused about her feelings lately and she'd been having visions or dreams of possible old memories that were messing with her head."

"I'm sorry about you and Piper," I said.

"Don't be," he said. "I understand her. It did hurt, though. But I think I can get over it some day. We're still awkward around each other, but at least we left on a good note."

I scoffed. "Leo couldn't even give me a good ending to our relationship."

"Hey," he said as he put a hand on my shoulder. "You're a great person, y/n. You've done so much, especially for him. It's his loss that he was stupid enough to let go of you."

"I know that."

"Do you really?"

"I do!" I said. "I'm a great person and I know that. But that doesn't mean what he did doesn't hurt me."

"I know," he said. "You'll find someone who'll treat you like the queen that you are. You're a great person, and I'm not just saying this to cheer you up. I truly think you're amazing."

I smiled at him. "Thanks, Jason. And you'll find someone great, too. Maybe not as great as me but, then again, who is?"

We both let out a laugh. The conch sounded in the distance, signaling dinner. I moved to stand up before hearing Jason speak up again.

"Hey, do you maybe want to just grab a couple of plates and eat out here?"

I smiled. "Yeah. That sounds good. I don't really want everyone else hounding me about the breakup right now."

I don't know how long it was going to take me to get over Leo. We really did gave something special. It was cruel how the universe gave me something so good, to make me have hope that something was finally going right, then have it yanked away from my arms just as suddenly as it came.

He never cheated on me, but that didn't mean he didn't betray every promise we made to each other. I should have known it was too good to be true. Life has always played cruel jokes on me.

Then again, who's to say that things won't turn out for the better, right?

hes the type of person who cannot get comfortable no matter what so hes just struggling to find a good position for mf half of the movie istg

so bravo bravo he finally finds a good one then this bitch has the AUDACITY to sit up get food n then he struggles again.

at this point u just ignore him (i feel bad for him i feel the pain tbh)

he also has like just the two of us the song playing in the background just bc hes very like always needing a lot of everything tbh

so yall r watching that and one might think he is very stoic doesnt like movies n shit but theres two ways this can go:

hes either sleeping or hes hyperactively paying attention

for this movie in particular he becomes overly attached n when the like house complex comes crashing down n im p sure there is like a scene where shes getting tortured? idk i havent watched the movie in forever

ok anyways he literally gasps, kinda jumps, n he cries a lot.

ok so after that hes prob either heartbroken or out cold. if hes out cold, baby im sorry but ur not going anywhere

when he sleeps he doesnt wake up until its like 3 pm istg-

ok but fr thats just a hc of mine anyways so yall be watchibg it

and hes obvi very sucked in

and then theres like the betrayal scene

n he gasps so loud his popcorn w extra butter n light seasalt n extra cheese w a side of HI-C fruit punch almost spills

that order is also canon.

and ur like “kenma baby r u ok?” while laughing ur ass off lowk

n hes like “yeah yeah im fine stfu now pls”

like just bc u said pls doesnt make it better but i see u, choosing barbie over us 🤨🙄 can relate tho

finally the movie ended n now yall both feel very empty. so what do yall do? by this point its like 4 in the morning

so the only logical answer is to play otome games, episode, animal jam, n the winx fairy rp game thing

high school au! park woojin

summary: high school au! park woojin where he sits beside you in math class a/n: requested; IDFKSJ i was writing the last few sentences to this when my computer crashed and everything disappeared AAAAAHDJFS my soul left my body and i had to rewrite the whole thing so apologies bc my original draft was probably better but sdkjfskjjksd nonetheless i hope you enjoy & as always please tell me what u think!!

so you first meet woojin in math class

the teacher assigns everyone partners and you two end up together

both of you are upset about it initially bc you wanna sit with your own friends lol

but it all turns out for the best

since both of you are pretty reserved around people you don’t know well, you guys don’t really talk at first

but math is your ultimate weakness and half of the time you have no idea what the teacher is saying

so you have no choice but to ask woojin what’s going on

and he, being the genius that he is, explains everything to you nicely

tbh the teacher sucks, like no one understands what he’s saying and to make things worse, he goes at an incredibly slow pace so things get even more confusing

but woojin here has that special skill of just reading the notes and understanding everything

so as time passes you guys develop this routine where every math lesson woojin just comes in and teaches you the current topic that you’re at

which means you guys have nothing to do for the rest of the lesson

and as you become more comfortable with each other, you start to just spend majority of lesson time talking or playing games

surprisingly woojin is super easy to talk to? also he’s super funny and competitive when playing games so it’s fun

you guys have played every game that can be played with just a paper and pen

and you have talked about literally every topic from lighthearted stuff like gossip and the movie which just came out

to heavier things like religion and what happens after you die

(you’ve done all this and the teacher doesn’t even notice that’s how much he sucks)

anyways so through this you two get pretty close but you don’t talk outside of math class

which makes you like some kind of secret friends

and this goes on for a while until after a few months when suddenly woojin starts developing this habit of falling asleep in class

which means 1) you don’t have a math tutor and 2) you’re bored

so after letting him sleep for a few lessons you finally decide to wake him up

and that’s when you notice how tired he looks like he has dark circles under his eyes and he looks like he hasn’t gotten proper sleep for a while now

you: “hey woojin what’s up why are you so tired?”

he just rubs his eyes trying to get himself awake and is like “it’s nothing i’m just tired”

but you’re not letting it go. “is something wrong?? what time did you sleep yesterday?”

he shakes it off again but you keep asking him

he looks like he’s contemplating something for a few seconds before he sighs and looks at you

“well actually, i don’t really tell anyone else at school about this but... i’m in this dance crew? kind of thing? and we’re having a performance coming up so our rehearsals are ending pretty late nowadays”

you’re like WHAT

my math classmate woojin is a dancer and he never told me??? we’ve talked about the afterlife but he somehow failed to mention that he dances?

after you harrass him for a while about not having told you this earlier (”i told you i don’t tell anyone at school!”)

you ask him to tell you more about it

and he does

he talks about how his crew has 10 other guys who are mostly all older than him, and how they specialise mostly in hip hop. he says the other hyungs are all super passionate about dance and they take care of him a lot and it’s super amazing getting to learn in such an environment

and the whole time he’s talking he’s smiling and he looks so excited

you think to yourself wow he must really like dance a lot

you voice out this thought to him and he just sheepishly smiles

then he asks “wanna come?”

and you’re like “come where”

“to the performance! it’s next friday at 7pm, i could text you the address? only if you really want to come though i mean i wouldn’t forc-”

“of course i wanna go!!!!!”

so that’s how you find yourself at this dark performance place the next friday

you look around and everyone seems so cool and intimidating

and you’re a little nervous because you’re here alone but you don’t really know much about dance

and you can’t really imagine math genius woojin dancing

but soon it’s his crew’s turn to perform and you focus all your attention on him

and

!!!!!!!!!

to say you’re overwhelmed would be an understatement

woojin’s whole dance crew is super good like they’re all so charismatic and they look good on stage but woojin?!?

he simply demands attention like you can’t take your eyes away from him, and his moves flow so smoothly from one to the next but they’re so powerful at the same time

there’s this one part in their choreo where each member gets a few beats of solo dance time and when it’s woojin’s turn

he completely dominates the stage

it makes your jaw drop

and in the middle of it he somehow finds you in the crowd and winks at you,,????

and omg this is all too much for you seriously

you’re still in a daze when they make their way downstage bc holy shit??? of course you’d expected them to be good but this had been beyond your wildest imaginations like they were good

but you try to collect yourself and go find woojin to pass him the flower you had brought him and say good job

you find him standing together with the others from his dance crew with his back facing you when his friend who was facing you suddenly goes

“oh? woojin is that the girl you were talking about?”

wtf why was he talking about you

anyways woojin turns around to see you and he looks so proud to see you there

as you tell him how much you loved the performance the rest of his dance crew are oddly gathered nearby and they keep cheering woojin on

“GET IT WOOJIN”

“uh woojin i think your friends have something to say to you...?”

he’s like kshsdhfj just ignore them but they don’t stop

“WOOJIN DO IT DO IT DO IT”

do what

you’re so confused you don’t know what’s going on and when you look to woojin for answers

he just sighs in defeats

“well y/n... honestly i thought you would realise the moment i told you that you’re the only one who knows about this whole dance thing but... i really like you. a lot.”

Hey! @ayoshi tested it, Braxton, Jordie, and Zoey hairs for me and they all showed up fine for him. He does not have Cats & Dogs installed so that isn't the issue. I think you have to have the most recent game update.

Hahahahahah lmao this was the date when i got tgt with K 3 years ago.(omg i still rmb, but tbh its nth special i just rmb useless stuff pretty well) Never wanted to date a guy again even i with crushes back in sec sch. but anyways, today i went to Sentosa w/ B and he seemed to really like the artificial fiels alot but it was like in the afternoon so it was still kinda hot and yeahhhh. Like it would be much nicer at night. There will be like alot of stars and fireworks too and it will be more windy and cooling idk but it will be nicer at night and i want to spend the night w/ B there again. Oh yeah anyways ystd B bought me the batgirl lego keychain and B told me that batgirl had sex with batman and im shoooked.

2/3 and like today we planned to go to his house anddd then go to parkway parade to some lego secret chambers shop. i went out early cuz my junior wanted to pass me her lego characs but she couldnt make it so i was alr at bishan so i just went to tpy and wait for bryan o wake and meet me so i called him at 11am but he woke up and shouted at me so i just like nvmmmm so i went to the library and went window shopping around tpy and i also went popular 1pm i didnt want to call him up but i was like ugh nvm and called him.. and yay he finaally woke up wna read tuesday with morrie, all the fifty shades of grey and in grey's pov n miss peregrine's home for peculiar children but we still went to parkway parade anyays and he asked me to watch letters from iwo jima so i watched it at night and bryan wanted to watch the breakup list on toggle but it kept playing ads and it just wouldnt play the video so b got alittle pissed 3/3 logan, training (our 8th movie)

4/3 finishing crocheting my first thinggg the bear thing shoud i give it to bryan would he want it so today b was vvvv kinda excited this video thing with ck and cez and im like vvv happy for him cuz he can do smthing he rlly likes with cool n funny ffriends. also he said that he didnt want us to go public at first cuz he was afraid that ppl might tease us he said he was afraid i might be ffrustrated but tbh i was hella frustaratred i dont see the point of hiding our rship but im glad werre like opene now and so at night i went to ikea and b messaged me but i was busyt walking and i didnt recieve his msg but i didnt like lock my phone so it was read. but like it was in my pockets and like my mom doesnt allow me to play my phine whenever im walking but yeah anyways b was angry hat i didnt reply him. we sorta quarreled awhile but we were kinda okay after that i guess. wtf sia today midnight i have to distribute stuff to the homeless ppl in bugis and i was wearing a short paanyts and my mom tied this weird looking scarf i swear i look like some carzy hobo youngster wtf.

5&6/3 sneaked out of house, slept over at his house and after that i went to tpy first while he showers, ate and went home early to pack for camp stuff wna stay over at his house again it was fun we tried to watch moanna but was kinda sleepy

Okay, i have a flat and fat nose. i want to have a sharper and thinner nose like michelle. i have pretty small boobs and i want boobs like naomi. my shoulders are too wide from playing softball, i want a smaller width shoulders like grace. my tummy isnt flat i want a flat tummy. and thing is those are pretty famous girls in like sg and im not even talking abt kim kard or emma wats or like jennifer lawr. omg i dont even know where im going with this im just literally typing all my thoughts down. okay and the boys here???? they all follow those people and im pretty sure they compare them over the normal girls in sch. omg what am i even talking abt. i feel silly even typing this out. but okay if your beauty standards doesnt reach like the norm in society you srsly wouldnt have friends. unless youre realllll rich or your sense of humor is rlly rlly great.

So actually, i pluck i my hair when im nervous, stressed out or just thinking abt smthing i cant ignore. so back in primary 4 i was doing this math practice paper and i couldnt do any those 6marks big problem sums and i was fking stressed out. and well my habit of plucking my own hair started really really young. and at P4 my mom saw me crying
