New Omijuki for 2024
So in 2023 we got the Omijuki added to FFXIV for Heavensturn and I absolutely LOVED it. When doing the quest this year, I noticed that at the end it tells you that there were 12 new option that you could get under "adventure". For anyone that was curious, there were 2 new Adventures under each tier of fortune, and I cataloged them for myself, so I thought I'd share them; Great Fortune -Forget not to take thy repasts, for thou shalt be blessed with encounters most auspicious. -Shirk not the offer of the august, for proffered hands forge new bonds. Good Fortune -Remain true to thyself, and new encounters shall follow. -Opportunity awaiteth in lands blessed by golden dawn. Fair Fortune -Heed the whispers of nature. On a faraway island shall you find solace and sanctuary. -Rejoice in the Twelve, and thy revels shall not go unrewarded. Small Fortune -Forge thy weapons anew, for thy pursuits shall reveal untold strength -In the land of the fierce shall thine abilities be tested. Bring thy full might to bear. Misfortune -Renew thy spirit beyond the horizon. -Thou shalt find repose where rabbits tread. Grave Misfortune -Fortune favors those who brave the shadows. -Hearken back to journeys past, for thy memories shall be thy strength. I love them all! I think my favorite was getting "Thou shalt find repose where rabbits tread." I think most of them are nods to Endwalk and things we may come across in Dawntrail. Anywho! Hope everyone has a happy 2024 and that they enjoyed looking at these.

October 10th 'Fortune' and 'Maximalism'
Artist Note: Okay so. We've got a Shibari harness and then I took 'maximalism' to be a lil 'extra' with the scene (instead of just burying Steve in rope). So Eddie is tying fortunes to Steve that he wants to come true Omikuji style.

Shrine for Lovers (Izu Peninsula, Japan)
Kumano Shrine located at the furthermost end of Cape Irozaki on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture (Japan) is where a deity of marriage is enshrined.
Origins of this shrine are unclear, but is associated with a legend of a young couple who overcame challenges and lived happily ever after.
In this shot, you can see omikuji (random fortunes printed on strips of paper) and wooden ema boards, which are used to inscribe your wishes or prayers to the deity of the shrine.
The omikuji were originally used to divine the gods’ opinion on important matters, such as choosing successors, determining battle strategy, etc., and was an extremely sacred occasion. In modern days, anyone can freely purchase an omikuji in hopes of getting a good fortune.
Due to the association with a deity of marriage, ema boards/plaques are attached to Kumano Shrine are often inscribed with wishes or prayers for good matchmaking.

Okay, not even gonna lie. I have amassed a decent-sized collection of Wazubela doujinshi. And I get them shipped from a shop located in Kanagawa.
Well, during Christmas, one of the doujins came with a bonus "Doraemon" puffy snack. I wish I had taken a picture of it before I ate it. It was delicious.
Anyway, NecoJelly's Wazubela collection came in to-day, and…
Tumblr media
The bonus gift was an omikuji-- or paper fortune. In which, I now have Excellent Luck for this year. (You can't really tell because I film with a potato, but it's written in half Japanese, half English).
And then, I got curious. I got to wondering just which shrine did this fortune come from? First, obviously, it has to be a shrine in Kanagawa, and in the general area of Hiratsuka.
That narrows it down to three different shrines: Hiratsuka Hachimangu, Sakitori, and Sanada. (Random fun fact: they are all in walking-distance of each other).
Well, if you look it up, it turns out that Sakitori is the most popular out of these three. But, I couldn't find any information on whether they print their omikuji in English or not.
So, I checked Sanada. Again, no info.
And that left Hiratsuka Hachimangu. And it turns out, they DO print fortunes in English!!!
So, if my hypothesis is correct, my omikuji most likely came from Hiratsuka Hachimangu Shrine!
And that's my detective work for this afternoon.
