yet another what-if scenario for your blog! sorry if this has been done already, it’s not exactly some wild idea, but
(tw suicide, murder, death)
so yk how severely fucked up sunny is
and how, pre-incident, he let his emotions build up by a LOT and it kinda pre-effed him up?
what if sunny, due to mounting stress, took his own life shortly after the incident, and left basil to keep their secret or share it with the world?
like, okay. imagine you’re basil, and you’ve just seen your friend kill his sister. you commit the most heinous action of your life to protect him—then he kills himself.
so not only are you dealing with the grief of losing your best friend and his sister (who is also your friend), you also have to decide whether to keep your mutual and grave secret, and ALSO have to come to terms with the fact that you tried to protect him for nothing. i mean, frankly, what’s the point in making someone look innocent for the rest of their lives if they die?
hero may be the first to notice something’s wrong with basil. like, wrong wrong. typically, when something is distressing basil, he gets really clingy, and wants to share what’s on his mind. however, now he’s begun to distance himself.
either way,
all of them would be absolutely destroyed, searching for answers and finding none (basil knows too much, which isn’t much better.)
hero feels like he should’ve been more attentive to the two of them, blaming himself for not seeing issues that, at least for mari, weren’t there. he probably won’t return to romance for a long time.
aubrey will resort to rage to deal with her overwhelming emotions—she’s just lost her crush and her honorary-sister; all the good in her shitty life sucked out in one fell swoop.
kel crushes his emotions deep down inside of him because they are far too scary to confront. instead, he takes to comforting aubrey and hero, which doesn’t really help anyone. he’s always one bad day away from completely breaking down due to unaddressed emotional turmoil.
basil… well, damn. he saw one of his friends die, and if you’re especially mean, he can be the one to find sunny’s body. now he has this burden of vile truth on his back, with no good way to shove it off, so it won’t break those he holds so dear—and, of course, he’s grieving the loss of sunny and mari (or trying to, at least), but that gets very difficult once you begin to question you and your late friend’s moral status due to the murder and framing of said murder of your other dead friend. basil probably feels inclined to join them.
rumors in faraway would spread like wildfire.
“how bad of parents do you have to be so that BOTH of your children commit suicide?”
“i bet that their parents killed them. they were so happy before!”
“i bet that the sister taking her life pushed her brother over the edge…”
ah, and hero was dating her.
“she had a boyfriend, her piano… she seemed so happy! everything was going well for her! i wonder why…”
“oh, her poor boyfriend. he must be hurting so much.”
what a time to be alive.
LOOKS AT YOU LOVINGLY you are so talented and this is an amazing what if situation, so don't worry about this being done before or not being wild enough!!!!! A very fresh idea 👁👁
A big YIKES for Basil though, the universe never seems to be on his side it seems........neither for the gang either. I don't see there being a good ending for this either :(( at least not one I can think of!

Sunny sat on the couch sorting out the snacks for everyone for today and tomorrow. Aubrey made today's popcorn and warmed up the pizza.
Sunny looked through the VCR tapes he had that he hadn't watched yet.
Only 2 or 3 interested him. He would watch one with Aubrey and the others with the rest of the group.
"Sunny, popcorn finished!" Said Aubrey cheerily.
"Ok, we only have 3 options for movies right now." Sunny said.
"Got it, run through them for me." Requested Aubrey
"So, we have "Chainman Jackson", "The Two Missed Letters", and "the French patient" to watch." Sunny answered.
"Hmm, you sure you didn't see anything better, Sunny?" Aubrey asked.
Sunny double checked the box. He saw one he missed before.
"What about this one?" He asked.
"The Arrival…" "I could go for that." Aubrey replied.
Sunny got up and popped it in the VCR and turned the lights off.
The movie had just started and the two had already dipped into their supply of food.
"This food isn't gonna last past the first scare is it." Sunny asked
"Probably not." Aubrey answered.
Sunny reached for the lost slice not knowing that it was the only one left.
"Sunny! You bastard, you better not take it!" Aubrey yelled at him
"Oh, sorry I didn't know that it was the last slice!" Sunny said, startled.
"Hehe, you look so flustered when you're scar-." Aubrey got cut off by a jumpscare from the movie
"AHHH!" Aubrey screamed.
Aubrey jumped pretty hard landing on Sunny.
Sunny hit his head on the table.
"Ow!" Sunny exclaimed.
"Sunny, I'm so sorry! Are you ok?" Aubrey said, worried.
"Ah, I think I'm bleeding." He responded.
"I'll grab the first aid kit!" She offered.
"It should still be under the sink." He informed her.
They made their way over to the kitchen. Aubrey tried to keep Sunny steady.
She opened the bottom cabinet and grabbed a small case.
"Sit on the corner of the table for me." She asked.
He did what she said.
"Ouch, you're bleeding pretty bad, Sunny. I'm really sorry." Aubrey apologized while opening the first aid kit.
"It's ok. you didn't mean to." Sunny answered.
"I still feel horrible though." She argued while reaching for gauze.
"Seriously, you're fine. You immediately took responsibility and apologized for it. You're doing everything to fix it also. I'm not gonna hold this against you." He tried to console Aubrey.
"Ok, well let's get you bandaged up. Maybe that'll make me feel better about this." She said trying to cheer up
She wrapped the gauze around his head and tried to keep his hair away from it.
"There, much better!" Aubrey said.
"I'm still a little light headed but I'm fine otherwise." He informed Aubrey.
They made their way back to the living room carefully.
Sunny sat back down on the couch, and Aubrey cleaned up the mess she made when she jumped.
Sunny glanced at Aubrey for a second.
"She looks… so sad. Is it what happened to me or is it something she's not telling me?" He thought to himself.
He gathered as much courage as he could.
"Hey, Aubrey, are you sure you're ok? You've been off for a little while today. I don't want to push you too hard, but I have to ask, did something happen that you aren't telling me?" He questioned her.
"e-eh, oh. Uh…" She stopped for a moment, contemplating what to say.
"God, i- I don't want to tell him, but he'll be more worried if I don't…" she thought
She sighed anxiously.
"I'm sorry, I thought about telling you earlier, but something did happen. I'm sorry for keeping it from you." She said apologetically
"What happened, you seem pretty shaken up Aubrey." Sunny asked, worried.
"I haven't been able to get back in my room for a few days now." Aubrey said, sounding depressed.
"Huh? how so?" Sunny inquired.
"The attic I live in has this ladder and it's broken and I haven't been able to get in my room for 4 days now." She replies.
"Does your mom know?" Sunny asked, getting more worried.
"Yeah, s-she doesn't care…" She answers, starting to tear up.
"That's horrible. Wait… where have you slept?" He asked, shocked.
"On the floor under my room…" she said.
"Jesus christ, why haven't you told anyone?" He questions her.
"I don't want to bother anyone." She says burying her head into her knees.
Sunny just sits there contemplating what to do.
"I've got to help her, somehow, someway." He thought.
"Wait, I have this big step stool you can bring!" Sunny remembers.
"Huh? Oh, that won't work. The latch is stuck." She informed him, wiping her eyes.
"Oh… Wait, I can come over with my dad's tools? We can figure out the issue then." Sunny suggests.
Aubrey sits there for a moment contemplating while drying her tears.
"I guess I don't have that much of a choice…" she says.
"I don't want him to deal with my mom, or the house for that matter… but I need to get up there.
"Ok, I'll grab the tools and stool." He says, trying to cheer her up.
"Wh-huh? You don't have to do it now…" she said, starting to blush.
"Well it's got to be done before tonight, doesn't it?" He replied.
"... Yeah." She said, sounding defeated.
"Hey, there's no shame in asking for help." Sunny replies.
"Ok, and hey… I'm sorry for all of this today, it was supposed to be a nice and chill day and I ruined it." Aubrey said.
"I have a feeling that if none of this ever happened I wouldn't have learned this, so it's all good in my book." He said with a smile.
Sunny goes to his parents room and grabs all the stuff that he needs.
"I'm ready when you are!" He says.
"Thank you Sunny… for everything." Aubrey says, starting to smile.
Aubrey opens the door for Sunny so he can pass
"Ladies first." She says cheerily.
"Oh SOO funny." Sunny says with his most menacing face… which isn't very menacing.
They walk by Kel again, the mower isn't on anymore.
"I have no idea what's happening anymore." Kel said as clueless as always
"Kel what's wrong?" Sunny asked.
"Oh nothing, I'm just trying to start the mow-"
Kel looks at you.
"Woah Sunny! What happened to your head?" Kel exclaimed.
"Hit my head on a table, I'm fine though." Sunny replied.
Aubrey looks flustered.
"Oh, ok. Sorry to bother you guys again, but I can't start the mower. Do you guys think you could help again…" Kel asked with shame.
"Sure!" Aubrey responded.
It took all of 3 seconds for them to realise it was out of gas.
"Oh, this thing runs on gas? I thought it just ran… now I'll start confusing mowers with cars…" Kel says defeated
"I think my parents have some gas though so I could probably handle the rest. Thanks guys!" Kel says gratefully.
Sunny and Aubrey go on their way.
"Y'know, Kel can put a smile on anyone's face." Aubrey remarked.
Sunny agreed.
Several times Sunny had to stop and rest for a moment just to get a better grip on the foldable stool and tools. His pride wouldn't let Aubrey help. Too much was on the line regarding his masculinity.
There was a little bit of a descent to Aubrey's house but somehow Sunny survived.
They made it to her house intact.
"Hey, Sunny? Before we go in, just so you know, it's really bad in there. My mom hasn't cleaned up in years." Aubrey mentions.
"Oh that's ok, I don't really mind." He assures her.
Aubrey walks up to the door.
"Hold on a second. Let me make sure that she's passed out first." She says.
Sunny waits there for her signal. After a few seconds she lets him in.
Sure enough, some of the worst smells that could possibly exist were there.
"Oh god, you were right, how can your mom live like this?" Sunny asked in a soft whisper.
They made their way to the hallway and over to the hatch.
"Ok, I'm going to try to pry it open." Sunny informs Aubrey quietly.
"Got it." Aubrey replies also quietly.
Sunny grabs his hammer and presses the back end between the hatch and ceiling and starts to jiggle it back and forth.
"This isn't working." Sunny says.
"Try this flathead screwdriver." Aubrey says handing it to him.
He takes it and starts lightly tapping it in
"Hey! I got it!" Sunny whispers.
He opens the hatch up as quietly as possible and they head inside.
"It's hot in here." Sunny remarked.
"It's always like this here." Aubrey said.
"Well, now that this is done, what now?" Sunny asks.
"Wanna head back to your place, and finish the movie?" Aubrey suggested.
"Sure, just don't get scared and break my face this time." Sunny said jokingly
Aubrey punched him in the shoulder causing him to stumble into a baseball bat, knocking it to the bottom floor.
It made a really loud clanging noise.
A couple seconds later they heard something shifting around.
"Shit, Sunny, stay up here." Aubrey said looking worried
"Got it." Sunny replied.
Aubrey climbed down to the ground floor.
"HEY! What's the ruckus over here!" Sunny heard a gruff voice shout.
"Sorry mom, my bat f-fell down." Aubrey replied with obvious fear in her voice.
"God why won't you ever be quiet. I can't have shit in this house." The voice said.
"If I had known you were gonna be this much of a hassle to keep, I would've gotten rid of you a long time ago." The voice said again.
"I u-uh, I'm sorry mom." Aubrey apologized.
"DON'T CALL ME THAT!" the voice shouted.
Sunny couldn't bear to hear someone talk to her like this.
Aubrey stood there in silence. Sunny could almost hear her tearing up. He hated just sitting there.
"I-im gonna go o-out…" Aubrey said, sounding hurt.
"Pff, wearing that? You look like a damn whore!" The voice said, sounding smug.
"While you're handing yourself out to men, make a quick buck so you can buy me a beer." The voice said with a disappointed tone.
He could hear Aubrey start to sniffle and choke on air.
"Well what are you waiting for, get… Me… A BEER!" The voice boomed
"B-b-but you-r holding o-ne." Aubrey said, trying to keep it together.
"ARGUE AGAIN AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS!" The voice screamed.
"Bu-"
Sunny heard the sound of glass shattering.
Sunny, surprised, peeks out of the hatch. He is instantly filled with what can only be described as complete and total rage.
