god i love the motel scene in on the head of a pin where uriel and cas come to take dean away to torture alastair. it is such a good early destiel scene. dean is so pissed and cas is just standing over in the corner all “dean we know this is difficult to understand” while uriel is saying “and we dont care!” cas looks straight ahead like fuck i messed up again AND THEN the way that dean looks at cas and the way that cas refuses to look back at him. and then when he finally does he looks so conflicted! and then dean just looks only at cas and pleads with him “you cant ask me to do this cas—not this” and cas looks like he wants to give in he wants to give dean whatever he wants but he’s still fighting it! still trying to be the good soldier he thinks he is. this episode is literally such a turning point for cas’s character. he hasn’t quite reached the point of no return yet but this is the episode where he finally takes a big step in that direction

Still absolutely feral about On the Head of a Pin every time I rewatch. Never getting over it. SPN masterpiece. Sam's arc, Dean's arc, Cas's arc. Dean and Cas. The acting!!! Most of all--whatever it is Jensen was doing, absolutely terrifying and beautiful and heartbreaking. The writing, cinematography, story, themes. Peak SPN.

I was rewatching spn 4x16 "On The Head of a Pin" as one does and...

Alastair tried to kill Cas by impaling him on... a rebar!

It can't be real, this show is soooo cruel... I won't post nor mention a certain death that happens during 15x20 because in my universe it didn't happen...

But I am flabbergasted.

Also, are we supposed to make the correlation "angel on the head of a pin" with "angel impaled on a rebar"? 'Cause my mind just did and now I'm forever changed.

SPN 4x16 On The Head Of A Pin has so many dark fucked-up parental things going on and I love it.

The scenes with Dean and Alastair are so claustrophobic and intimate, with Alastair paternalistic towards Dean in the darkest way. The comments like ‘daddy’s little girl’ and ‘all the poking and prodding’ and talking about John are just the most deliciously screwed-up stuff. Then cut to Sam with Ruby in a fucked up vampiric mothering parody as he drinks blood from her wrist, which feels both Oedipal and like it calls back to Azazel’s line about demon blood being better than mother’s milk. You can also draw a parallel from that to Mary’s original deal to allow Azazel into Sam’s nursery and feed him blood to save John, and Sam dealing with a demon and drinking blood to save Dean.

On top of that we get the angels and their god-daddy issues.

It’s the cycle of intergenerational trauma in full in just one episode. God, I love it so much.

Did Ben Edlund ever write a bad episode? And yes, the one with the fairies has its moments.
