On this day in 1973, the Endangered Species Act was signed into law. Over the past 48 years, it has helped preserve plants and wildlife for future generations.
From the bald eagle to the American alligator, we are thankful for this law and the species it has helped recover and save.

TDIH December 20, 1941, a group of young American mercenary pilots from the American Volunteer Group (AVG) in China shot down nine of 10 Japanese bombers over Kunming. The AVG lost only one P-40 when the pilot crash-landed after running out of fuel. The American pilot was later recovered uninjured.

It was during this engagement, the AVG (better known as the The Flying Tigers) accomplished one of the earliest American aerial victories in Pacific theater. These brave pilots would go on to confirm 299 Japanese aircraft shot down, with the loss of only 12 of their own in actual combat.

The June 28, 1969 Stonewall Uprising was a milestone for LGBTQ+ civil rights and it provided momentum for a movement.
At Stonewall National Monument in New York City, you can immerse yourself in the history of how this act of defiance sparked a revolution.

Happy Belated Birthday to the Boeing B-29! 🥳
Shame on me... I missed an airplane birthday yesterday! On September 21, 1942, the first of three Boeing XB-29 prototypes departed on its first flight from Boeing Field in Seattle, Washington. The flight was piloted by Edmund T. “Eddie” Allen, Director of Aerodynamics and Flight Research, and Al Reed, Chief of Flight Test and Chief Test Pilot.

On this day (14 October) in 1920, women received degrees from Oxford for the first time in its history.
With this revision came a large number of retrospective graduations for those women who had met all of the criteria over the previous 40 years.  A new generation of women saw the opportunity for a degree opening up and numbers of students rapidly increased.

{News} RUTH WILSON has been interviewed for Empire Magazine and talked about the last series of His Dark Materials.
“I was ready to leave. I love creating things. I’m not so good at sustaining stuff. Mrs. Coulter is iconic, she’s brilliant, and the challenges of this season were really good because she becomes a goodie, so, how do I manage that? It’s a fine line to go from a fun baddie into that.”

Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on this day in 1929. King paved the way for the environmental movement, cited anthropologists to refute racist pseudo-science, and encouraged ethics in science and technology. He also encouraged actress Nichelle Nichols to stay on Star Trek, telling her “You are our image of where we’re going, you’re 300 years from now, and that means that’s where we are and it takes place now. Keep doing what you’re doing, you are our inspiration.”

6 years ago, on this day (July 7), Johnny visited fully dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow, the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital (now known as “Queensland Children's Hospital”) in South Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
On that evening, Johnny and Stephen Graham flew right from the set where they were filming “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” and arrived on a helicopter, fully dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow and his comrade Scrum, at the public hospital Lady Cilento Children's Hospital (now known as “Queensland Children's Hospital”) for a surprise visit to the pediatric patients.
Although Johnny tried to keep the visit in private, and even asked the staff to not share any information about the surprise, as soon he arrived, photos started to be shared online raising attention of TV news that went to the hospital and even flew over the building in helicopters.
It was revealed that in reality, Johnny didn’t want to call attention, because he was there only for the children and not for his own image or to promote “Pirates of the Caribbean”. He didn’t want to be crowded by adults or forced to get out of his character and while focused to bring joy to the children. It was also revealed by medics and the staff, that on that day, Johnny spent a couple of hours on the hospital, and was especially interested in those fighting cancer. So, once taken to the place where these kids were hospitalized, Johnny went from room to room and took a special time seeing all the kids who couldn't get out of bed. Later, he also visited the rehabilitation ward where other children were being treated and took photos with all of those who wanted to capture that special moment. With all the care taken, Johnny took his time sharing love, joking around, making fun, and also giving some gifts, like some of the gold coins memorabilia from the movie.
You can check, a little bit of Johnny’s visit of this day HERE.
There’s NO OTHER MAN like Johnny Depp.
