omg i would absolutley love to hear more about walenty if u still feel like talking!! i hold dst so close in my heart so seeing other people make ocs for it makez me so happy!!! how did he get to the constant? n like what was his life like before then? or has he alwayz lived there :0!! -plushpyro
this got super out of hand so i'm putting it under readmore. um teehee ^__^
UM!!! don't know where to start i could talk for HOURS probably but ok. maybe i'll start with the backstory. my idea for it is that basically he got into the constant via an antique voxola radio he found on a garage sale somewhere. it had a tag with an adress on it and being a teen he was like hey. hey let me go there that'd be funny. i think she originally planned to go with someone but ended up going alone, the other person got sick whatever. enter the nightmare hands and she's never seen again. (<i'm not superrr happy with that backstory but i can't think of anything better so. blehhh XP) before that kit was just a highschooler, her family was alright, life was okay etc etc. nothing special but also nothing bad. although kit was probably more like. shy and more of a loner. forgot to mention but he's also more "modern", i don't know if it would actually work in-game lore-wise but it probably got send to the constant like, 2018 the latest (which i should probably utilize more in my art tbh). he's also polish. i probably haven't mentioned that anywhere either. onto other things after getting to the constant it probably wanders around alone for a bit before finding the other survivors. top 10 happiest moments of its life etc etc. kind of interrupting the current flow but it also has the ability to turn into a werething, which is unique because it is by that affiliated with both the moon and the shadows but also both sides kind of hate her anyways lol. being werething doesn't give it any super like. powers it can just turn into a wolf-bear creature during full moons and where it is in grave danger. that's also why it has those funny features like animal ears, a tail and horns (speaking of! i always thought of the horns as something like a non-newtonian fluid in a sense that if you don't use force when interacting with them your hand would go through or they would bend out of shape before returning to how they were before, but if it were to ram into someone it would probably hurt, not like walenty would do that). its eyesight is still dogshit without glasses BUT it can probably hear and smell a bit better. ok now maybe onto relationships. i haven't thought about ALL the survivors in detail but i imagine she gets along pretty well with everyone. she used to be pissed off at maxwell for a bit but she got better now maxwell is like his lame ass uncle or whatever. it also has a father-son like relationship with wilson and they probably talk about science together, they're into different fields i imagine (walenty is more of an astronomy guy but he'll try to remember what he learnt in physics for higgsbury if he asks). either way they're silly together they make me very happy :]. she also feels like an older sibling figure to the other kids since she's like 16 and #responsible. also friends with woodie they go ice fishing together and they're both were(insert animal here). AND WITH WOLFGANG. he's also friends with him i think they're slavic besties :3. ok now that we have friendships out of the way he and WX fight all the fucking time. they hate eachother sooo much <not really they just get on eachother's nerves and who's there to stop them from throwing rocks at eachother. walenty probably pushed wx into a lake once and then felt genuinely bad until they threw her in the lake back and oh buddy it's on. <they both refuse to be the bigger person basically. the only instance in which they'll work together is if webber asks them. i would say more but i hit the character limit </3

What's Up With WAG?
Tumblr media
What's going on with Warner Animation Group?
Coincidentally, WAG was set up by the shield in early 2013, some ten years ago... about a year ahead of the release of THE LEGO MOVIE. The name has been used for numerous theatrical animated movies that have come out of Warner Bros. (now Warner Bros. Discovery, blehhh) ever since. All of which are conceived in California, but animated and produced elsewhere, as Warner Bros. Animation themselves - makers of most of the 2D direct-to-disc movies like the DC and Scooby-Doo films - doesn't make them. Confused? It definitely sounds it.
Anyways, so far, WAG has offered:
The four LEGO MOVIEs and DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS, all animated at Animal Logic
STORKS and SMALLFOOT, both of which were produced up at Sony Imageworks
SCOOB! and the likely-never-to-be-released SCOOB! HOLIDAY HAUNT, animated at Reel FX
TOM & JERRY, a hybrid whose animation was done by Framestore
SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY, again, a hybrid, with multiple houses contributing
On the horizon is a live-action hybrid Looney Tunes movie called COYOTE VS. ACME, which originally carried a summer 2023 release date, before disappearing into the ether. Filming wrapped on the live-action portions a year ago, but WBD continues to be silent about it for the most part. Ditto TOTO, based on the OZ-inspired book TOTO: THE DOG-GONE AMAZING STORY OF THE WIZARD OF OZ, which used to carry a February 2024 release date. Nothing on that one, either. It's as if they're not happening, or Warner just doesn't know when they'll release them... And after their CEO's purge of animation, from offloading certain projects to other distributors (like that upcoming Batman show, BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER) to outright near-erasing them from existence (FINAL SPACE, SCOOB! HOLIDAY HAUNT), I worry for them a bit.
The only animated feature from WBD with a concrete release date is THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM (April 12, 2024), which doesn't appear to be a WAG-branded picture. That's a Warner Bros. Animation collaboration with anime studio Sola Digital Arts, so it makes sense. They also recently released a Spanish picture called MUMMIES in a small amount of cinemas.
But in a way, did WAG even need to be a thing? Not the movies themselves, but that whole "brand"? That whole sort-of animated movie "think tank", as they once called it?
I get it, in a way. Warner has had an on-and-off sloppy history with animated features, and they seemed to think that Pixar Brain Trust-ing their way into a robust slate of animated movies was the way to go, but so many cancelled projects, flops, miscalculations and upper-level transitions later... What is there to do? The other big distributors who aren't Disney eventually got it right (i.e. Universal with Illumination, pre-Disney 20th Century Fox with Blue Sky when they still existed, etc.), but it feels like Warner Bros. is still having a hard time doing so. Ditto Paramount, who might finally get a post-2012 animation ball rolling with this summer's TMNT adventure MUTANT MAYHEM.
Warner had released animated features prior to the 2nd Golden Age of American Animation (late 80s/early 90s), such as the UPA's GAY PURR-EE and Filmation's TREASURE ISLAND, and also... Looney Tunes clipshow movies, but they tried to really get started on the features game once the Golden Age hit. But they tripped out of the gate: THE NUTCRACKER PRINCE came and went in 1990, ROVER DANGERFIELD apparently got matinee'd and disappeared a year later - a project significantly watered down from its original concept (an R-rated cartoon comedy based on a very R-rated comedian), they lost Richard Williams' to-be opus THE THIEF AND THE COBBLER to a completion bond company when things went south, and really... Throughout the '90s, only had a box office success in SPACE JAM. A Looney Tunes movie... With Michael Jordan... Everything else they released from roughly 1990 to about 2004, flopped: THUMBELINA, A TROLL IN CENTRAL PARK, QUEST FOR CAMELOT, THE KING AND I, OSMOSIS JONES, LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION and even the beloved THE IRON GIANT.
They saw some success with THE POLAR EXPRESS, and later HAPPY FEET... But then didn't score similarly with a HAPPY FEET sequel nor LEGEND OF THE GUARDIANS: THE OWLS OF GA'HOOLE (one of the worst titles for a movie whose source material had a much simpler title that they *should have went with in the first place*). Only a few small, profitable movies like CORPSE BRIDE and the 2007 TMNT movie happened. No real blockbusters, though.
WAG got off to a good start with THE LEGO MOVIE in 2014, STORKS and SMALLFOOT made back their small budgets, and THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE continued the success of LEGO MOVIE numero uno. But the flopping of the last LEGO MOVIE follow-ups resulted in the movie rights to the construction toy being sent over to Universal, who are picking up the slack with a still-undated LEGO MOVIE 3. COVID-19 rerouted SCOOB! to streaming, TOM & JERRY did okay-ish as a hybrid release prior to vaccine rollout, SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY - which by all means should've been a nostalgic blockbuster - tanked hard. I get that Delta was becoming a concern at the time, but that didn't stop something like SING 2, released during Omicron, from being a big hit. DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS, released this past summer, was their first truly profitable movie in a long while. They also blew a partnership with the studio that made RON'S GONE WRONG: Locksmith Animation, whose next film - THAT CHRISTMAS - is coming to Netflix.
Prior to all the shake-up following the Warner Bros. and Discovery merger, WAG also had a few Dr. Seuss-based pictures in the works: THE CAT IN THE HAT, THING ONE AND THING TWO, and OH THE PLACES YOU'LL GO... Those all might be up in the air as well.
I get the sense that post-Discovery merger, the whole WAG thing is just sort of on the back-burner. A sort-of "ehhhh what are we gonna do with this?" attitude.
Again, SCOOB! HOLIDAY HAUNT's fate. The first SCOOB! got rerouted to On Demand (and later HBO Max, soon to be called just... "Max"... Ehhhhh) after COVID-19 broke out in March 2020. The film would've been theatrically released in May 2020, so it going straight to VOD and streaming made sense. It was either that or a full-on year-long delay that other pictures, such as F9: THE FAST SAGA and the MINIONS sequel, got. They chose to just get it out, and it seemed to do well as a VOD title. So much so that they put a sequel in production, and actually completed. HOLIDAY HAUNT was to be an HBO Max-exclusive prequel, but rather than upping it to theatrical status and figuring out a release date for it, CEO David Zaslav - who made it firmly known today that WBD is no longer in the business of making streaming-only movies - killed it. HOLIDAY HAUNT is a fully-finished and fully-scored movie, but for legal reasons, it can never be released and no one can make money off of it. Great, huh? This could've be a modestly-budgeted theatrical release that could've collected some decent coin this past Christmas, but noooooooo-
(I'm still very bitter about that.)
So, that's one big dent. There's apparently a future for SUPER-PETS, per an announcement saying it would lead to a "universe". COYOTE VS. ACME and TOTO are totally in limbo, and it's not known what's going on with the Dr. Seuss movies. There doesn't seem to be anything else in some form of development there, and whatever was for a little while - such as an adaptation of George R. R. Martin's THE ICE DRAGON - is probably dead by now.
DC was completely revamped from the ground up per Zaslav's mandate, with James Gunn and Peter Safran now in charge, despite the fact that several movies under the previous head and part of the previous plan were shot. One of which, BATGIRL, was also hurled into the black hole by Zaslav, never to be seen. The remaining movies are all being released this year. SHAZAM 2 did badly, THE FLASH, BLUE BEETLE (originally an HBO Max movie, but upped to theatrical), and AQUAMAN 2 are next... Movies that seem to mean nothing going forward, as the whole thing is hard-resetting in 2025 with SUPERMAN: LEGACY anyways. What a mess...
I wonder if Warner Animation Group is seeing a similar overhaul. Bill Damaschke, former DreamWorks and Skydance Animation executive, had recently been tapped to lead up the place. Damaschke was a strong choice, given the heavy-hitters he oversaw during his long tenure with DreamWorks (dating aaaaall the way back to THE PRINCE OF EGYPT). I get the sense that there's a lot of rerouting going on there, too, as that often happens when animation studios get new heads and are set to go in new directions. It happened at DreamWorks, too.
So, maybe after COYOTE VS. ACME and TOTO - whenever the heck those come out, Warner Animation Group's future going forward might be very very different. It might be a clean-slate situation, a la DC Studios and the James Gunn Superman movie. A complete hard-reset, with maybe a few things kept around. I can imagine the SUPER-PETS movie still factoring into their future, and Looney Tunes movies obviously. I'd imagine they'd still do the Dr. Seuss movies, given how iconic Seuss' stories are, and the three theatrical animated adaptations - Blue Sky's HORTON HEARS A WHO! and Illumination's LORAX and GRINCH movies - all did well at the box office. Can't see Warner saying no to an animated CAT IN THE HAT movie, so I think that'll still be on.
What would I like to see from Warner Animation Group, myself?
Less reliance on their IPs, for starters.
Only STORKS and SMALLFOOT were relatively original stories in their line-up of features. And two movies that I quite liked! STORKS wasn't based on anything that already existed, while SMALLFOOT was based on an unpublished book. I love most of the LEGO movies, even if they are based on an iconic building toy and the movies themselves have strutted Warner Bros.' entire catalogue, but... If you think about it, STORKS and SMALLFOOT are just two movies amidst... DC, Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, etc. All Warner-owned properties. If you remember, SCOOB! was supposed to be the start a Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe, which would've continued with animated movies based on THE FLINTSTONES, THE JETSONS, and WACKY RACES. (Dick Dastardly and Muttley, of course, appear in SCOOB!) And of course, Dr. Seuss. Toto. (The 1939 WIZARD OF OZ being a Warner-owned picture.) It's all Warner IP, or if it isn't, it's something very very well-known and adapted into movies before.
Like... Anything else? I know THE ICE DRAGON is a book, but that would've been really neat for an animated feature. Ditto that BONE movie that they let go.
I don't know, it just seems weird to me. The way Warner Animation Group was largely just a hub for CG animated movies based on Warner properties. That'd be like Walt Disney Animation Studios gumming their slate up with animated Marvel and Star Wars movies. I remember when Disney Animation announced BIG HERO 6, their only Marvel Comics adaptation, back in 2012, there were concerns: "Oh no, is WDAS going to be just an outlet for animated Marvel movies now?" But that didn't happen, that comic was so loosely adapted that BIG HERO 6 might as well could've have been an original story about a boy and his marshmallow-robot. And it didn't get a feature sequel, either. Ever since BIG HERO 6 came out, Disney Animation has continued to make new worlds and revisit two others. Marvel Studios has an animation wing, who have made WHAT IF...? and some other upcoming projects, so they'd likely do future animated Marvel movies. Not WDAS or Pixar. And Lucasfilm has an animation division, too, so an animated STAR WARS movie would likely come out of them.
Anyways, I hope for the best for WAG...

WAIT YOU DONT LIKE MIKAN OR KAITO HOW
thank you for asking! not sorry for the rambles!
tw mikan, kaito, chiaki, kaede, kokichi slander and spoilers for sdr2 and v3 under cut!
first of all, look. im not a terrible person and i know mikans backstory and literally everything but i STILL cannot fucking stand her. but unlike SOME PEOPLE im not gonna MAKE FUN OF HER TRAUMA and things.
i know she has her reasons but honestly her constant apologizing bothered me to no end and i know for a lot of people, once they saw her smile they fell in love or something, but instead i felt gross and wished she would stop. her voice is irritating too. ugh everyone makes me feel bad for hating her since i KNOW she has her reasons but i cannot. stand people like that shes so annoying and clingy and ughhh. also i get way too many requests for her constantly and i never liked her in the first place. too much fan service as well
kaito? fuck that dude legitimately! i dont even like maki all that much but it really irked me when he kept on downplaying her like that. and punching shuichi after he just WATCHED SOMEONE DIE? yes, i do think saimatsu went wayyyy too quickly to actually be meaningful, but she fucking died bc he pointed it out! anyone would cry why would you say he needs to man up tf?????? and also with joe being the exception, best friend bro type characters who cant take a hint fucking. i cannot deal with them at all bc i have too many irl who'll latch onto me and think im lonely when im alone on purpose.
i hate doing pushups and i hate this guys attitude and although i never played his chapter it honestly wouldnt have affected me at all. hes annoying and clingy and you can tell me how hes smart bc of his ultimate and that hes sexist and homophobic bc of who he was raised by but i literally dont care. its the way he acts for me. why is he even so liked i LITERALLY dont get it. he wasted his aesthetic too tf
anyways have some more bonus rants since youve activated me
chiaki. yes, yes i know that anime her and game her are different bc of her being an ai and stuff. guess what? i dont care. you can try and defend your favourites all you want, but seriously. chances are i know more than you. anyways i hated how we were supposed to care about her dying in game when all she did was kinda stand around and be helpful ig. she was way too bland and nice for me. i wont go as far as to call her a mary sue, but shes just. bleh. blehhh i dont care about chiaki at all i cannot connect to this sleepy gamer girl in any form. her execution and aesthetic are cool from a design pov but yeah. in anime form she was actually worse imo! bc in game she didnt really randomly be loved and adored by everyone, while she was way too nice. also once again WAY TOO MANY CHIAKI REQUESTS I SWEAR
kaede! you mightve been able to tell this by now but i do not like people who push friendship onto me and thats literally ALL kaede did. while valid and i dont really care about either of the characters involved, i have a personal vendetta against saimatsu bc it felt like a romance movie with how fucking QUICKLY it developed in a GODDAMN death game. if some blonde girl started talking about how shes gonna end a killing game id boot it out of there SO QUICk not stare lovingly into her eyes as we hold hands. her though, other than that bit, i do think she was killed off way too quick and she had a lot of potential. her story is cool from a writers perspective, as with the thing where she was trying to help by being positive but ended up making things worse. but she really severely overestimated herself. and from a fans pov? i fucking hate positive characters who try to make me positive. let me be a grumpy bastard in peace
KOKICHI mkay i like the other antags bc they have actual reasons but kokichi just exists to be a fucking clown. i do not like him i hate sharing a birthday and a height with him and i DO NOT GET. THE FANS. AT ALL? what is there to like? hes an annoying little bitch who wont stop laughing. OKAY BUT ONCE AGAIN. from a writers pov hes really underdeveloped bc while i appreciate his role in the story, and his morally grey character that is willing to do a lot for the greater good, his motivations do... not make sense? whatsoever? we dont know anything about his backstory PLEASE for the LVOE OF GOD stop calling him your uwu gay pg panta yandere boy. there is nothing to defend at all. yes he has a major impact on the plot but guess what. as a fans pov i literally couldnt care less. and for the final time PLEASE GET YOUR SOFTCORE PINK KOKICHI STUFF ELSEWHERE i am going to EXPLODE
thank you again!!!!!!!! and yeah blablabla youre valid for liking them just dont attack me or try to change my opinion. thanks.

Inevitable Confrontation
(A/N: Carlos is a baby. I just realized that all over again. He's an adorable man-child)
Warning: some canon deviancy here, all for the sake of adding drama ^_^ strap on your big boy pants- this is gonna be a long one! Horribly written fight scene ahead!!
Tumblr media
Emma felt like her body had been set on fire. Maybe it was. God, she was in so much pain... Her ribs felt awful, as if they were about to pierce her from the inside.
She just wanted to sleep...
"-ma!"
So tired...
"Emma!"
A harsh slap to the face forced her to open her eyes. She sat up with a jolt, wincing at the stabbing pain in her side. "What the hell...?"
"Oh, thank God!"
She was suddenly swept up in a bone crushing hug by Jill, who looked about as bad as she felt. "...What happened?"
She slowly pulled away, giving her a sad look. "The train got blasted from course. I think... I think we're the only survivors."
Emma suddenly thought of the small group of civilians in the back car. Of the platoon leader, Mikhail.
"They're... they're dead?" she choked out, gripping tightly at Jill's shoulders as her friend pulled her up. "All... all of them?"
She was given a weak nod. "Yeah. That fucking monster just won't die."
Emma nearly growled. "That's it. Next time I see that thing, I'm blasting its head open."
"You and me both, partner," Jill agreed, and they grasped each others' hands. "But in the meantime, let's get out of here. I don't think this place is safe."
As quickly as they dared, they made their way through the sewers, making occasional stops to try and contact Carlos through the small walkie-talkie.
His face. His deep eyes. His bright smile.
What was he doing now? Emma knew he was on some important job- at least, that was what her friend told her- but she still wondered if he was safe.
And to think for even a moment that I'd be able to never think about him again...
ROAR!
The two women flinched, glancing behind them at the empty, pitch-black hallways.
"C'mon," Jill whispered, yanking at her partner's shirt. "Climb!"
She obeyed, scrambling up the rungs of the ladder and hauling her body onto solid ground. Her friend emerged quickly after, only for the two to nearly jump at another howl from below.
"That fucker's still alive," she muttered. "We can't stay here."
So they kept moving, hoping to find some sense of higher ground on the bridge. Jill immediately began to try reestablishing contact with Carlos while Emma sat heavily on a bench.
"Carlos? Respond!" she tried once more.
A crackle on the radio, then, "Yeah, what's up?"
She nearly breathed a sigh of relief before responding. "We didn't make it. The train derailed."
Emma listened to them closely, feeling the comfort at hearing his voice.
But it immediately sank when the water beneath them began to bubble.
She stood up and began pushing at Jill. "We have to go!"
"What do you mean- What the fuck?!"
The bridge groaned and shook with the sudden weight of the monster as it slammed onto the surface. Water sluiced off of its grotesque limbs as it snarled at them, not unlike a rabid beast.
"It's back!" she screamed, tackling the other to the ground when it swiped at them. She yanked Emma up and pulled her along, sprinting as fast as they could.
"Keep running!" Emma called out, pushing her friend forward before pulling down pieces of metal in the faint hopes it would slow the creature down. Without stopping to see if it worked, she jumped across the sudden gap in the bridge, grabbing her partner's outstretched hand.
They dropped in front of the clock tower, where the monster slammed down in front of them, releasing another bloodcurdling roar.
"I'm gonna kill you!" Jill shouted at the thing as she prepped her grendade launcher.
Emma sighed, snatching up her dual pistols in both hands and firing them at the monster's potential weak points, expertly avoiding any swipes from its tentacles. Her partner used everything she had- shotgun, pistol, grenade launcher- while she chased after the tyrant, muttering profanities under her breath.
She did her best to keep up. Emma used every grenade she kept stored and nearly ran out of bullets with how frequently she was shooting.
But it was working. Bit by bit, the monster began to slow.
"Jill! It's now or never!"
"Alright," she replied, turning to the growling tyrant. "Let's do this. Suck it!"
Grenades exploded against the monster, over and over. Bits of skin, rubble, and ash flew everywhere. It stumbled, then collapsed, nearly jolting the two women into the air.
Emma groaned, clutching her abdomen. "Hopefully we don't have to do that again."
"Yeah." Jill sighed, rubbing her neck. She grabbed the small radio. "Carlos? You still there?"
No response- just white noise.
"Oh, come on!" she hissed at the machine. "You're gonna crap out on me now? Goddammit." She briskly moved to the other woman's side, helping her get an arm around her shoulders. "We should get moving, find someplace safe."
"Sounds like a plan," Emma wheezed with a pained grin.
They passed through the gate, carefully stepping over the tyrant's massive hand before continuing down the passageway-
And she was suddenly pulled to the floor. Her skin burned as it was dragged against the stone.
"Emma!" Jill cried. Burning with fury, her eyes locked onto the small chain above the gate. She shot it, and the whole thing came crashing down atop the thing's arm.
Blood oozed from the wound. Emma scooted away from it. Shivers ran down her entire body. "Oh God... Oh God..."
"It's okay," she comforted her friend, helping the smaller one to her feet. "Let's keep moving."
"...Right."
They turned their backs on the wounded thing.
A horrible mistake.
Without either one noticing, it released a sharp spike straight into Emma's arm before collapsing once more.
She yelped at the sudden pain radiating through her, and pulled out the spike. A sense of dread overcame her. Then weakness. Then-
[...]
Jill had the pistol aimed at her friend's head.
She knew what she had to do.
After the Arklay incident, the two had made a promise that if something like it ever occurred again, and one of them got infected, the other would shoot them. No guilt, no pain- just the relief that they would not end up becoming one of those monsters.
Jill would keep her end of the bargain. She had to. She promised.
"No matter what happens, I'll always have your back," the rookie promised with a sweet smile.
"You know what? We should go snowboarding," she mused over donuts.
"There's a hundred things I could do, and I'd choose being your friend above all of it."
Tears slipped down her cheeks. The muzzle slowly met the ground. Gently, she adjusted her friend so her head rested on her lap.
"I'm sorry," she choked out. The taste of salt and regret were heavy on her tongue.
She could not keep her promise after all.
[Half a Day Later...]
Carlos was exhausted.
Ever since the haunting call with Jill, he had absolutely no idea what happened to the two women. Were they injured? Were they-
His feet skittered on the pavement. His hands felt clammy. Air refused to enter his lungs.
On the ground, pale as death... was Emma.
He couldn't lie and say he didn't get tunnel vision. He sprinted to her, rifle clattering to the ground as he scooped her into his arms.
"Emma?" he croaked, lightly shaking her body. "Amor? What happened to you?" He turned to the second woman. Anger blazed in his eyes. "What the fuck happened to her?!"
The sobs continuing to wrack her body, but she managed to get out the words "tyrant" and "some kind of infection."
A chill ran down his spine.
Infected. She was infected.
His hands curled into fists. He stared at the cracks in the pavement. Some dark, monstrous part of himself whispered that it should have been Jill who got infected.
He forced it down. This wasn't the time for blame. Logically, he knew that it was something beyond either of their control.
...But there was something within his.
"Tyrell, do you copy?" he nearly screamed into the comlink.
"What's goin' on?"
"Emma's been infected. I..." Tears threatened to clog his throat; he swallowed. "I'm taking her to the hospital. Maybe Dr. Bard can save her."
"Alright. I'll meet you there."
With that accomplished, he turned to Jill. "I'm gonna carry her, but I'm useless with my gun."
She nodded, a glint of her usual determination shining through once again. "You can count on me."
With a nod, he lifted her into the air. She looked so pale... so helpless...
"Hang in there, baby," he murmured, pulling her closer to his chest. "Stay with me. Be strong."
------------------------------------------------------
A/N: so yea- Emma ended up being the infected rather than Jill but yes drama
Blehhh XD
This ended up being much longer than I expected or hoped. Maybe I should've broken it down into pieces.... whoops 😅
Edit: read the sequel! :D

1. When was the last time someone saw you naked? No one does.
2. If you could bring someone back from the dead and spend an hour with them, who would it be and what would you do/say? My grandmother. I’d just love to be able to spend some time with her again, hear her voice and her laugh, hug her, and tell her I love her.
3. What is the greatest loss you’ve endured? Losing my maternal grandparents and my dog, Brandie, to name a few.
4. How would you describe your current mood? I’m having a flare up and I’m tired.
5. When was the last time you did something you were embarrassed by? Who knows. That’s not an uncommon occurrence.
6. What was the last thing you lied about? I don’t recall.
7. Where is your favorite place to have sex? Virgin here, but I’m pretty sure a bed would be perfectly fine.
8. What is your earliest memory? I have some vague memories of preschool.
9. Do you ever drink or get high alone? No. Or at all anymore.
10. What type of a drunk are you? I feel like it made me annoying and chatty. I also ended up feeling sad and lonely later on.
11. What song (or a few songs, whatever) means a lot to you and why? There’s several.
12. When was the last time you revealed your feelings for someone? Were they accepted or rejected? A few years ago when I told Ty how I felt. He told me liked me, too. Nothing ever came of it, though.
13. What was the reason behind your last visit to the hospital? When a friend was in the hospital a few years ago.
14. How do you tend to deal with a breakup? I go through the motions.
15. What is the “worst” drug you’ve done? Are there any you will never try, or any you want to try? I’ve only smoked weed. That’s the only thing I’ll ever do.
16. What is something you’ve done that you truly regret? I have a lot of those...
17. What does it mean to you to be a good person? Do you feel you are a good person? So, according to some Google searches here are a few qualities of a good person: Honest, empathetic, loyal, cooperation (works well with others), authenticity, creativity (in the sense that you’re openminded and think outside the box, creative in coming up with solutions), passionate (do things wholeheartedly, give it your all), resilience, sensitive (compassionate and sensitive towards the feelings, struggles, and needs of others), and insight. Based on this, I think I possess some of these qualities and fall short/lack others.
18. What is your philosophy on life/how do you generally choose to live or conduct yourself? I just...keep going.
19. Do you view animals as being just as important as people? Why or why not? My pets are family. As far as other animals, while I’m not a vegetarian or vegan, I still believe they should be treated in a humane way and with compassion. There’s no reason to be cruel, such as abusing them or keeping them in harsh conditions.
20. When was the last time you were up all night and why? For most of this year I haven’t been going to bed until like 7 or 8AM. On a few occasions it was a little later or I ended up staying up the whole day somehow. I don’t know wth is wrong with my sleep schedule, but it’s really off track. For someone who is always tired, I sure don’t sleep very much.
21. What is the worst thing you’ve done to yourself? What is the worst thing someone else has done to you? Neglect myself and ignore things, not take care of myself like I should. I’ve caused a lot of problems that way. As for someone else... use me, play with my emotions, made me feel like trash.
22. What is the most personal thing you’re willing to reveal? I don’t know. I share a lot in these surveys.
23. What made you stop talking to the last person you cut out of your life? I was/am a mess and pushed everyone away, completely withdrawing and distancing myself. I just cut myself off from everyone outside of my family. I’m not even close with cousins that I was very close with throughout my life anymore.
24. Is there a situation or person you haven’t been able to get over/forgive? I dwell a lot on my mistakes and regrets. I’m harsh and unforgiving towards myself.
25. Who was the last person to yell at you? Did you yell back? No one yells at me.
26. Where did your last injury come from? It’s been awhile since I’ve had any injuries. Not any new ones, anyway.
27. What are some kinks or turn-ons you have, if any? I don’t have the experience to really know, but I feel like I’d be super bland haha.
28. What are you like during arguments? I shut down pretty quickly.
29. What is the worst thing you have said to another person? Probably not saying anything at all and completely ghosting my friends who totally did nothing to deserve it.
30. Where do you like to be kissed? Lips and neck.
31. What is more difficult for you, looking into someones eyes when you are telling someone how you feel, or looking into someones eyes when they are telling you how they feel? Looking people in the eye, especially during serious conversations, is really hard for me. I give eye contact, but I look away or down and fidget with my fingers or something in my hand. I also have a very hard time expressing myself well.
32. Think of the last time you were REALLY angry. WHY were you angry? Do you still feel the same way? Blehhh.
33. You are on a flight from Honolulu to Chicago non-stop. There is a fire in the back of the plane. You have enough time to make ONE phone call. Who do you call? What do you tell them? My mom. I’d tell her I love her and to tell the rest of my family I love them, too.
34. You are at the doctor’s office and he has just informed you that you have approximately one month to live. Do you tell anyone/everyone you are going to die? What do you do with your remaining days? Would you be afraid? My parents and brother would definitely know. I don’t know how I’d go about telling other family members. I would be an absolute mess, but I’d spend all that time with my loved ones, sharing memories, telling them how much I love them, thanking them, telling them anything else I want to say to them. I’d also be doing a lot of praying.
35. You can have one of the following two things. Which do you choose? Why? Uh, what are the choices?
36. You are walking down the street on your way to work. There is a dog drowning in the canal on the side of the street. Your boss has told you if you are late even once more, you are fired. Do you take the time to save the dogs life? Why or Why not? I absolutely would. I can’t swim myself, but I’d try to find help and call 911. I’d make sure they were rescued.
37. Would you rather be hurt by the one you trust the most or the one you love the most? Uh, I’d rather not be hurt by anyone if possible.
38. Your best friend confesses that he/she has feelings for you more than just friendship. He/she is falling in love with you. What do you (or did you) do/say? My best friend is my mom...
39. Think of the last person who you know that died. You have the chance to give them 1 hour of life back, but you have to give up one year of yours. Do you do it? Why or Why not? Can they have more than just an hour?
40. Are you the kind of friend that you would want to have as a friend? No.
41. Does love = sex? Not always.
42.Your boss tells your coworker that they have to let them go because of work shortage, and they are the newest employee. You have been there much longer. Your coworker has a family to support and no other means of income. Do you go to your boss and offer to leave the company? Why or Why not? I mean, as of now I still with my family so if that were still the case in this scenario, then I’d be okay because I’m fortunate that my family can provide the necessities. I wouldn’t have to worry about not being able to afford food and things like that. I don’t have kids to worry about either like this person does. I also receive disability. In other words, I would be okay and be able to look for something else in the meantime if need be.
43.When was the last time you told someone HONESTLY how you felt regardless of how difficult it was for you to say? Who was it? What did you have to tell the person? I had a serious conversation not too long ago with my mom with some things I was struggling with. It’s difficult for me to express myself and how I’m feeling with anyone, no matter how close I am to them. I just struggle with what to say. I feel like I don’t explain or get my point across very well. I also don’t like the focus and attention one. I don’t like discussing serious things about myself. I also don’t want to burden people with my problems or worry them. I downplay things or keep a lot to myself, so for me to open up like that it takes a lot.
44. What would be (or what was) harder for you to tell a member of the opposite sex, you love them or that you do not love them back? Telling them I love them, but telling them I don’t would be hard as well because I certainly don’t want to hurt anyone.
45. What do you think would be the hardest thing for you to give up? Why would it be hard to lose? I’m gonna go with something not so deep and serious and say coffee. I really do need my coffee, though. I don’t want to have to go without it.
46. Excluding romantic love, when was the last time you told someone you loved them. Who were they to you? My mom.
47. If there was one moment and one time in the last month what would you change and why? How my doctor appointment went last month. I had to meet with a new doctor who I don’t like and I wish the appointment went better. I wish I was able to express myself and explain things better, but I just felt intimidated and uncomfortable. I thought of a lot of things I wanted to say after the fact. I wish I could be a little more assertive.
48.Imagine it is a dark night, you are alone, it is raining outside, you hear someone walking around outside your window. WHO do you wish was there with you? Good thing I’m never alone at night cause I’d be freaking out to say the least. Good thing I have a dog, too. In this hypothetical situation, though, I’m not sure why my family isn’t here, but I’d be calling 911 and my family right away.
49. Would you give a homeless person CPR if they were dying? Why or Why not? I don’t know CPR. I would try to get them help right away and call 911.
50.You are holding onto your grandmother’s hand and the hand of a newborn that you do not know as they hang over the edge of a cliff. You have to let one go to save the other. Who do you let fall to their death? What was your rationale for making the decision? I hate these questions.
51. Are you old fashioned? In some ways.
52. When was the last time you were nice to someone and did NOT expect anything in return for it? I like doing things for people because I want to.
53.Which would you choose, true love with a guarantee of a broken heart, or never loved at all? Why? True love.
54.If you could do anything or wish anything, what would it be? I’d have good health.
55. What was the last thing you ate? Ramen.
56. What kind of guys are you usually attracted to? Personality is the most important thing.
57. What’s the stupidest thing that’s happened to you that ended a friendship? Some middle school drama.
58. What’s the longest amount of time you’ve had sex for?
59. What reality shows do you watch? Catfish, The Voice, Teen Mom OG, Teen Mom 2, KUWTK, Total Bellas...
60. Post a video of yourself here: No.
61. Where do you work? I don’t.
62. Have you ever gone up to a car thinking it was yours and tried to get in it? I’ve gone up to cars thinking it was mine and reached for the handle, but thankfully quickly realized it wasn’t my car. lol.
63. Where do you buy most of your clothes? Boxlunch and Hot Topic.
64. If you were very intelligent and had the capability to have any profession, what would you like to be? I don’t know.
65. What’s your most irrational fear? I have plenty.
66. How many radio stations do you listen to? It’s been a few years since I’ve listened to the radio. I only listen to Spotify for music, even in the car.
67. What kind of music do they have?
68. Would you rather go to Greece or Hawaii? I mean, both would be amazing.
69. Musicals: Yay or Nay? I like some of them.
70. What are the next concerts you’ll be going to? Who knows or even when that’ll be an option given the state of things. I miss going to concerts, though. It’s been over 10 years since my last concert.
71. What was the last conversation you had with your best friend about? About the episode of Ratched we had just finished watching last night.
72. Are you one of those people that LOVE to hug others? No. Not to say I don’t like hugs, though. However, I know people who hug everyone, even if they’ve just met, and that’s not me.

TSOTBL - Force Of Habit
It was a good evening, fresh snow piled everywhere, the wolves trotted through the thick forest and the wind whistled through the pine trees quite nicely.
Everyone had washed up and went downstairs for dinner, well, almost everyone anyway.
“Man I'm getting tired of eating eggs….” Aphmau grumbled, poking at her food with a fork. “Unfortunately it's all we have, we're starting to run low on food, so we have to make due with what we have.” Aaron explained. He was tired of the liquor store food as well. “Not to mention we didn't anticipate you and Zane staying here with us, so we're kinda under stocked.” Lucinda added. “True, true…” Aphmau nodded. Her eggs we're getting cold, that made them even less appetizing than they already were, and they weren't very appetizing to begin with. “As long as everybody is eating, right?” Aaron commented. “Not everyone,” Kim stated, looking around the table. “Where's Garroth? I called him down for dinner fifteen minutes ago.” “He probably wasn't hungry for eggs…” Aphmau mumbled, continuing to poke at her eggs, looking at them with a look of disgust. “He'll be fine Kim.” Aaron assured. ”I would take that if it weren't for the fact that he missed breakfast today and yesterday!” Kim argued. “So what? If he is missing meals that's his problem.” Zane replied snarkily, lowering his mask to eat. “Still, he's been acting a bit strange lately…” Kim said in concern. “When is he not acting weird? He's Garroth, only Irene knows what's going on in that brain of his. If he even has one anyway.”
Kim shot Zane a look before looking to Aphmau, who she also gave a look.
“I'm sure he's fine, Kim.” Aphmau assured, looking away nervously. “Right.” Kim muttered, returning to her meal. “So for the next week we really don't have anything to do, do we?” Lucinda thought aloud. “Nope.” Aaron answered. “Nothing at all?” Lucinda implored, in a small sense of desperation. “No, we're going to be here bored out of our minds for the next few days.” Aaron sighed, getting up from the table and taking his plate to the sink. “Well, there's always the library!” Kim reminded optimistically. “Yeahhh…that..too...i guess....” Lucinda uttered. She hated that library, ever since they opened the entrance to the cave she hasn't had a moments peace. “I guess all of this should be a reminder that I should never let Aphmau convince me to go anywhere ever again.” Zane remarked. “Hey!” Aphmau glared at Zane. “By the way, are you ever going to eat those eggs?” Aaron asked. “Blehhh…..” Aphmau responded, looking back to her eggs. They were stone cold now. “You can't just waste the eggs Aph!” Aaron scolded her. “But they're so groooossss.” Aphmau whined, pushing her plate in front of her. “Aphmau!” “Man I wish I could just have beans. I eat beans for dinner, lunch and breakfast.” Aphmau muttered sadly.
Everyone stared at Aphmau silently.
“You...you eat beans for breakfast?” Kim asked quietly.
Aphmau sat quietly for a moment.
“.....You don't?” Aphmau quietly replied in confusion. “Oh boy here we go…” Aaron mumbled. “WHO EATS BEANS FOR BREAKFAST?!” Zane shouted in a mixture of anger and shock. “MEXICANS?” Aphmau retorted in confusion. “WHY?!” Lucinda yelled, she didn't find it as confusing as everyone else did but she found the distress it caused everyone that Aphmau could and would eat beans for breakfast hilarious. “UM BECAUSE THEY'RE GOOD? WRAP 'EM IN A TORTILLA AND IT'S THE BEST THING?” Aphmau argued. “WH-WHY?!” Kim laughed, taking off her glasses. “It's just how it be Kim.” Aphmau added, putting her last word in, and eating a forkful of eggs. “OH SHIT THAT WAS HORRIBLE WHY DID I JUST EAT THAT.” Aphmau yelled, spitting cold egg out everywhere. “Cover your mouth!” Kim scolded Aphmau, backing away from the spray of egg. “Sorry, sorry.” Aphmau could barely mutter, choking on bits of egg. “Anyways, I guess we should wrap up breakfast now.” Aaron announced. “Wrap it up in a tortilla and into the trash…” Aphmau mumbled.
Everyone cleaned up and went their separate ways. Lucinda had went into her room to relax, but she heard a knock at her door.
“The doors unlocked.” Lucinda said aloud, turning to the door. “Hey Lucinda, can I talk to you for a minute?” Kim asked, walking inside. “What's up?” Lucinda asked her casually. “I'm good, I'm good. How about you?” Kim replied. “I've been better, just haven't been getting any good sleep lately.” Lucinda explained. “Ah I see….well um, I wanted to ask you something…” Kim stated nervously. “Oh? What is it?” Lucinda questioned, plopping onto her bed. “Do you...know if anything has happened with Garroth recently?” Kim mumbled, fidgeting with her fingers. “Nothing that I know of, why do you ask?” Lucinda asked curiously. “It's just that...um, nevermind it's nothing. Sorry I bothered you.” Kim muttered, quickly turning heel to leave the room. “Kim wait!” Lucinda grabbed Kim's hand before she could leave the room. “What's wrong? Did you guys get into an argument or something?” “No, no, it's not that at all…” “Then what is it?” “It's just that...I don't know, Garroth was acting kinda strange this morning…” “Strange how..?” “Well he was just kinda...not like himself? He was...being kinda rude and standoffish.” “Is that so? It's nothing to worry about Kim. I'm pretty sure he was just a little grouchy because he was tired, everyone here is seeming to have sleeping problems. Besides it's Garroth, you don't have to worry at all.” Lucinda assured her freckled friend. “Why do you guys always say that?” Kim claimed in annoyance. “Huh?” Lucinda uttered in confusion. “Everytime I voice a concern about Garroth, you guys just shrug it off as him being him! Why?” Kim pressed. “Listen Kim, for as long as I've known the guy, nothing has ever made the guy upset. I've seen people do some pretty crappy things to him and he always shrugged it off.” Lucinda defended. “How do you know those things never made him upset? Did you ever ask him if he was upset?” Kim implored. “I-I mean, I never did ask him, but he never looked upset when those things happened.” Lucinda explained. “So that's it? Garroth can't get upset because you've never seen him get upset? Because none of you guys ever bothered to ask if he was okay?!” Kim raised her voice slightly in anger.
Lucinda had nothing to say, she just looked down. There was an awkward pause between the two of them.
“I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to raise my voice…” Kim apologized, looking down sheepishly. “It's okay...I..kinda deserved that. To be honest, just generally assuming Garroth was okay all the time kinda became a habit…” Lucinda admitted, looking back to Kim. “A habit…?” Kim raised an eyebrow. “Well, I became friends with Garroth through Aphmau way back during high school. At some point in high school….you remember The Jury, don't you?” Lucinda elaborated. “Ugh how could I not? That was the worst year of high school ever.” Kim groaned, the memory alone was enough to invoke a feeling of disgust in Kim. “Well, remember how it took Garroth, Laurance and Aphmau to put a stop to Zane's tyranny once and for all?” “Yeah, which was really weird because at the time Garroth was part of the Jury and Laurance had rejoined the Shadow Knight's, so seeing a shadow knight join forces with the alpha female of the werewolf class and Garroth betray his own gang was realllllyyy crazy.” “Well Garroth took the fall for what Zane did back then, we tried talking him out of it but he insisted it would be easier if he admitted to everything. Despite all the manipulation and lies...he still really loved his brother y'know? Garroth's always been a really family oriented guy…. anyway, it goes without saying that he got a lot of heat from his parents. He ended up having to spend his last semester of school at a military school.” “Sheesh, a military school? I know a lot of what Zane did was bad, but….that bad?” “Trust me, there was a crap ton worse shit Zane did behind the scenes.” “Damn…” “But that was back then, Zane is...better, to say the least, not great, but better. Anyways, even after all that happened he seemed to be not bothered at all! He seemed at ease with his decision. I asked Aphmau if she knew if he was okay or not, and she always said that he was fine, y'know it's Garroth, right? I never asked him myself because...well it wasn’t exactly a pleasant time to remember. So… y'know after a long time of that, it just kinda became habitual after a while I guess. But now that you point it out...it is kinda...not the right way to deal with those things…” “Yeahhh, it really isn't.” Kim replied. “Anyways erm, I guess we could always ask him if something's wrong then? Like, why aren't we doing that right now.” Lucinda commented, rubbing her neck. “I would, but he's been locked in his room a day, and has pretty clearly been pretty adamant about staying in there. If he doesn't want to be around people right now I don't imagine we could hold a long enough conversation with him about it.” Kim explained. “Ah true...well let's just wait until he's feeling a bit better and we'll see him together then!” Lucinda suggested. “Sure!” Kim agreed, beginning to leave the room. “By the way, Kim.” Lucinda said after her. “Yeah?” Kim turned back to respond. “That book of his...do you know what kind of book it is?” Lucinda asked. “Nope, he won't even let me touch it let alone peak at it! I understand loving books but come on! Though he was less possessive of it when he first got the book, so that's kinda weird.” Kim explained. “Yeah...anyways, I'm glad we had this talk!” Lucinda nodded. “So am I! See ya later!” Kim said to Lucinda as she left the room. “Hmm…” Lucinda laid down on her bed as she thought to herself. “I wonder….”
Aaron was lying down in his bed in his room, for there was nothing else to do.
“In less than a week all of us can finally leave this place.” Aaron sighed, staring at the ceiling. “All of this...all of this was just meant to be a get away, to get some time away from Aph and be left alone with my thoughts. Looks like I couldn't even have that. Just….a couple more days Aaron, you can pull through…” Just then, Aaron heard a knock at his door. “Come in!” Aaron shouted to the door.
Zane came in and closed the door behind him.
“Hey Aaron, I just wanted to come in and see how you're doing.” Zane explained, walking to Aaron. “I've been better I guess.” Aaron responded glumly. “I see... what are you gonna do when we leave this shitty lodge?” Zane asked, curious about Aaron's plans. “I don't know, I'm homesick but also not homesick. I kinda miss home but with everyone here it also feels like I never even left. I don't know if I wanna go somewhere else, I've already been here for half a month, but I haven't been able to gather my thoughts about my relationship with Aph this entire time and...and we share a house together, I can't just go back either. I just...I just don't know what to do….I don't know what I want…” “Sounds tough. I'd suggest going with your parents but knowing them and they're company and all….” Zane trailed off. “Yeah.” Aaron replied. “Could you possibly go with your sister, Melissa?” “No, she's too busy working for my families company.” “Damn... you're really stuck in a corner aren't you.” “Yeah... I'm sure I'll figure something out.” Aaron sighed, putting his hands over his face. “You always do.” Zane assured him, in a surprisingly positive tone. “Anyways, how have you been?” Aaron asked “Eh, nothing different from back home. I'm still constantly irritated and annoyed by everyone and I hang around with Aphmau most of the time.” Zane explained. “Ah, also do you know how Garroth’s doing right now? I haven’t seen him all day.” “Hm.” Zane grunted, looking away. “I see…” “I'll get going now, I just wanted to see if you were doing well.” Zane said, proceeding to leave the room. “See ya.” Aaron replied, seeing Zane out. “Just….a few more days, can't be too bad right?”

Fun Fact: Limeys
Ok so, I had previously thought this was something explained to all kids. But then a few weeks ago I found out my roommate hadn’t ever heard of it, so now I’m thinking maybe it was just that my mother was especially into any fun facts that would encourage us to eat our fruits and vegetables. (Trust me, if you knew my mother and our requisite plate-of-salad-a-day childhood....)
And then, once I actually looked into the explanation of sailors and limes, it turned out that I didn’t know the whole story at all!  (In line with that one Charlie Kaufman quote, everything’s always more complicated than ya thought.) So!  Where did “Limey” as a slang term for a British person come from?
Welp, in the 18th century, long sea voyages were causing major issues for sailors whose teeth were falling out (both gross and, coincidentally, the theme of my most commonly reoccurring bad dream--a theme so popular that it has a dedicated website, blehhh).  So leaders in the British Navy were (probably) like, “oh no something seems terribly wrong with our sailor dudes, let us investigate!”
Tumblr media
(Their bad attitudes, bell-bottoms, and questionable impressment practices were another problem altogether.)
Surprise!  Not eating fresh fruits and vegetables (my mother is shedding a tear somewhere) because you’re stuck on a ship with only, like, hard tack and rum to consume (probably) can lead to vitamin C deficiency and scurvy!
Weirdly, this should not have been news to anyone in the 1700s.  British Navy surgeon James Lind gets credit for discovering the cure for scurvy because he did a scientific experiment about it, but including vitamin C-rich stuff like citrus fruits in one’s diet as a simple and easy way to prevent scurvy had been practiced for centuries (and arguably millennia) before the British Navy picked up on it and institutionalized the inclusion of citrus fruit juice in sailors’ diets.
But ok, eventually the Brits got with it and force-fed their naval crews lemon juice, and everyone was happier and healthier and had more teeth (yay!) But wait, you ask, lemon juice? Then why were they called limeys??? This is the part I didn’t know (read more here)! Turns out, the British harbored some citrus fruit confusion (citrusfusion? Sounds like a smoothie flavor) and “lemon” and “lime” were both used as collective terms referring to citrus fruit in general, kinda like how we consider red and green apples the same kind of fruit.
So as for the origins of “limeys”... the British sailors were often called “lime-juicers” (here we see the beginnings of the “limey” term). But more accurately, at first they were “lemon-juicers.” Aaand more interestingly, their citrus terminology confusion eventually ended up causing some major issues and setting medical knowledge back centuries.  Womp.
The story is this: some Royal Navy guy (we’ll call him Dave) in the mid-1800s was all, “hey guys, these lemon-limes are working out super!  But you know what would be better than importing the yellow kind of citrus fruit from our European neighbors??  Sailing to our own colonies in the West Indies and getting the green kind from there and using those instead!” And Navy leaders were like, “wow, growing fruit ourselves to trade to ourselves, it’s a win-win, great idea Dave” Except as it turns out, bad idea.  Bad frickin idea, Dave.  Using limes instead of lemons seemed all well and good at first, but it turns out that limes contain way less vitamin C than lemons (and the long cross-Atlantic shipping process wasn’t exactly beneficial to the lime juice’s healthy properties either).
God dammit, Dave.
No one really noticed the problem at first because technology and nutrition overall had improved to the point where scurvy was less likely anyhow, with voyages taking less time etc... BUT THEN at the end of the 19th century, long arctic and antarctic expeditions began... and scurvy reappeared. (oh no!) Even sailors who were drinking lime juice were getting sick on long arctic trips because the amount of vitamin C in limes wasn’t sufficient, and everyone was baffled and confused.
They started blaming scurvy on a host of other issues (including bacteria and rotten meat) since the whole idea of vitamins and vitamin deficiency hadn’t been developed yet.  It was back to square one for scurvy prevention.
And this confusion lasted through the early 1900s!  So many subsequent deaths could’ve been avoided with the extremely simple cure of just EATING FRUIT FOR GOD’S SAKE, a simple preventative technique that the Roman poet Virgil figured out back in like 25 B.C.E.  Seriously.
But alas. Due to insufficient fruit terminology and a lack of scientific rigor, scurvy was a mystery again.
So as it turns out: science is hard, and apparently learning from history is even harder, and colonialism leads to bad ideas (thanks, Dave) and ruins everything. Boo! (Read a more extensive history of the confusion surrounding scurvy here)
But on the plus side, British sailors (and later British people in general) gained a (kind of cute, right?) fruity nickname.  Moral of the story: when life (and your gross Navy diet) give you scurvy, make lemonade!  (... I’ll see myself out.)
Final thought: in some cases “Limey” is apparently a derogatory term, which might make the most sense of all, considering that the smart way to go would’ve been to be a “Lemony,” and the use of limes instead was an unfortunate development... ah. The intricacies of fruit politics.
