Sakura leaned against her pillows, propped up between her and the headboard. She glanced at the phone sitting on its cradle on her nightstand. After a moment, she sighed, then turned back to the book in her hand. She tried to concentrate, but the words resembled ants on the page, shifting and nonsensical. She groaned, rubbing her temple as the book fell closed on the blankets.
The phone rang, sharp and shrill. She frantically snatched the phone off its cradle, causing it to crash onto the bed next to her book. “Damn it,” she hissed, her cheeks burning as she picked it up and crushed it against her ear.
She could hear the amusement in Gaara’s voice as he said, “That wasn’t the greeting I expected.”
Sakura groaned, falling back against her pillows. “It wasn’t the one I was planning to say either.”
“Then let’s start over,” he said graciously. “Good evening, Sakura.”
“Good evening,” Sakura replied, finally letting herself relax. “It’s nice to finally hear your voice.”
“I’m sorry I’m late,” Gaara said. “Things have been getting busy here lately. I’m lucky if I get to return home before midnight some days.”
“It’s fine,” Sakura said. “You’re the Kazekage. You have a lot of important things to take care of.”
“I do,” he agreed. “But you’re important too.”
Sakura pressed her hand against her chest, feeling warm. “Thank you.”
“No need,” Gaara replied. “You never have to thank me for thinking of you, Sakura.”
“I still appreciate it. You’re important to me too, you know?”
Gaara took several seconds to reply. When he did, his voice had softened. “I know, but you’re right, I appreciate hearing it.”
Sakura’s finger tenderly stroked the side of the phone. “I wish you were here with me,” she said. “I’d like to do more than just talk to you.”
“As do I,” Gaara said. “It’s been too long.”
Sakura nodded, thinking back to that wonderful day nearly three months ago. Gaara had come to the village to personally oversee some negotiations with Kakashi. She was excited to see him, but unfortunately due to the nature of his visit, he’d been unable to spend much time with her. But then, to her surprise, he’d specifically taken an extra day before he returned to his village. That day, he was completely devoted to her. Touching her, holding her, exploring the village with her, all culminating with them spending a passionate night in his hotel room - one that Sakura hoped would be the first of many. Sakura still shivered when she remembered the way his fingers and tongue sought out her most sensitive spots, the way his cock filled her so perfectly when the teasing became too much, the way their body exploded with the most exquisite orgasms either of them had ever experienced. Sakura had to take the next day off to recover, her legs trembling whenever she tried to stand for more than a minute. She couldn’t imagine how Gaara had managed to walk back to Suna, for he had been no better than she.
“Sakura?” Gaara said, interrupting her reverie. “Are you there?”
“Yeah, sorry,” Sakura said. “I was just thinking about last time.”
“I understand,” he said. “I think about it all the time.”
“Do you?”
“I do. That day…it was one of the most wonderful of my life.” Desire thickened his voice. “And I can’t wait until we can repeat it.”
Sakura shivered. “Neither can I.”
Gaara flipped through some paper, then sighed. “Three months to go.”
“I know that’s technically not very long,” Sakura said. “But it feels like it.”
“It does,” he agreed. “I knew I should have pushed harder to move the Chunin Exams up a month or two.”
Sakura grinned. “You’d upend the schedules for all the villages just to see me sooner?”
“A small sacrifice for a greater good.”
Sakura laughed hard at that. “I love you,” she said, wiping tears of laughter from her eyes.
“I love you too,” he replied. Then, after a moment of hesitation, he said, “Sakura.”
To the untrained ear, Gaara would have sounded calm. But Sakura knew better. She could hear the nervousness when he said her name, could almost see him working himself up to say what he had to say. “Yes?” she asked softly.
“There is…something else we could do,” he said, his voice as calm as he could make it. “If you’d be willing.”
“What is it?”
“We could…help each other,” Gaara said. “Over the phone.”
Sakura let out a long breath. She had to admit, she was already feeling aroused from remembering that night from months ago. The thought of Gaara whispering dirty things in her ear while she touched herself…it was tempting. Her hand idly played with the knot on the front of her shorts. “I’m listening.”
He sighed with relief. “Thank you.”
“Of course,” Sakura said. Then, nervously, she asked, “What about Kankuro though?”
“He’s out for the evening,” Gaara replied. “I’m all yours.”
A happy blush spread across Sakura’s cheeks. “And I’m all yours.”
The smile was audible in his voice. “Gods, I can’t wait until July.”
She smiled back. “What do you want to do with me?”
“Everything,” he replied. “But I’d start with...kissing you. It’s been too long since I’ve felt your lips on mine.”
Sakura smiled, her face burning as she pictured his kiss, starting soft but rapidly turning heated. “I’d kiss you until you couldn’t breathe anymore, and once you caught your breath...I’d kiss you again.”
“And while you did that, I would start unzipping your top.” He paused. “What are you wearing now?”
“Pink tank top and shorts,” she said as she glanced down.
“Take them off.”
Her thighs clenched, the sheer authority in his voice making her burn hotter. “You’re awfully eager,” she teased.
“Sakura,” he warned.
She snorted, then set the phone down on her bed. She took her time, hoping he could hear the sounds of the fabric peeling off her skin. She tossed them away, then settled back against the pillows and tucked the phone under her chin. “There,” she said. “You should join me, Gaara. It’s so much more comfortable.”
“Already done.”
Her mouth fell open. “Already?”
“I believe you already said it,” Gaara replied. “I’m feeling rather eager tonight…thinking about you in bed.” His voice lowered. “Thinking about touching you.”
She laid the phone on the pillow next to her head. One of Sakura’s hands fondled her breast, her thumb teasing the nipple. The other snaked down her body, mimicking the path that Gaara had made all those months ago. Her folds were already wet, slickness clinging to her fingers as she traced herself. “I’d love for you to touch me,” she breathed.
“Gods, how I’d love to touch you,” Gaara said. “To feel your breasts in my hands again. To kiss them and suck on them until you beg me for more.”
Sakura let out a small gasp, sinking a finger inside herself. “Please,” she whimpered.
“You’re touching yourself now, aren’t you?”
Sakura almost laughed. “I am,” Sakura said, slowly drawing a circle around her clit with her thumb. “How did you know?”
“Just a hunch,” he said, his voice becoming a little breathy.
“You are too, aren’t you?”
“Mmm.”
She grinned as her voice lowered. “I can’t help it,” she said, pinching her nipple. “Just thinking about you sucking on my breasts while you tease my clit.”
Gaara let out a breathy moan. “Sakura…”
“I don’t know how you figured out how to make me feel so good on the first try,” Sakura said, her breath turning shaky. “But you did.” She pushed her finger deeper in. “You make me feel so good.”
Gaara groaned loudly in her ear, and Sakura gave silent thanks that they were both alone.
“You as well,” Gaara said. “Gods, Sakura, I still remember the first time you used your mouth. I still dream about it.”
Sakura’s eyes fluttered shut, remembering the sweet sounds that had poured from Gaara’s mouth. He’d laid back against the mattress, moaning and whimpering as she sucked his cock, his toes curling as he fought the urge to thrust into her mouth.
“Soon, it won’t be just a dream,” she said. “Soon, I’ll do it again for real. As soon as the hotel room door closes behind us, I’ll get down on my knees for you.”
“Yes,” he said, sounding almost like he was begging for it.
Her thumb’s circles grew more frantic, and she whimpered, a gush of wetness coating her fingers. It had only been a few minutes, and yet she could already feel the coil tightening within her. “Gaara,” she said, her voice high and breathy. “Please.”
“Are you close?”
“Yes.”
“Then go,” he said. “Let me hear you.”
Sakura nodded, her whimpers growing louder as her fingers plunged inside her, curling against her sweet spot. “Gaara, Gaara, Gaara…”
She could hear his hand stroking his cock more frantically, the skin sliding against skin. “Sakura,” he panted. “Oh gods, Sakura…”
Hers hit first. Her back arched off the bed as her walls clenched around her fingers. She let out a garbled version of his name, her voice echoing off her bedroom walls. Through the haze of her arousal, she heard him calling out her name as well, his voice torn with ecstasy before dissolving into heavy pants.
“Gaara…” she whispered, too tired to even wipe the sweat from her brow.
“Sakura…” he said back, the awe in his voice palpable despite his obvious exhaustion.
She closed her eyes, imagining him collapsed on his bed with sweat pouring from his flushed, nude body. She could almost see him turn to look at her, desire in his cloudy teal eyes. She subconsciously reached out, wanting to stroke his sweaty red hair. But her hand only found open air before falling onto the pillow.
All of her bliss evaporated, plunging through the floor into the core of the earth. She stared at the dark, empty space, blinking furiously as her eyes started to burn.
“...Sakura?”
She angrily wiped the tears from her eyes. “I’m sorry.”
“Sakura?” he asked, sounding alarmed. “Are you all right?”
More tears splashed onto her pillow. “I wish you were actually here,” she said, hating how miserable she sounded. “I wish you were the one doing this to me…”
“I know,” he said, sadness creeping into his blissed out voice. “I’m sorry. I didn’t think…”
She shook her head, adjusting the phone by her ear as she grabbed a tissue. “You have nothing to apologize for,” she said. “It sounded like a great idea…just…”
“It’s hard when you aren’t here after.” His voice grew quiet. “When I can’t hold you.”
“Mmhmm,” Sakura said. “That’s it in a nutshell.”
Gaara hummed in thought. Sakura then heard shuffling, followed by more flipping paper. “You know,” he said. “I haven’t had a vacation in quite some time.”
Sakura’s breath caught in her throat. “Gaara?”
“Would you have any free time near the end of May?”
Sakura launched herself out of bed, digging through her purse until she found her calendar. The busy season was April, when she helped conduct all of the annual physicals for the shinobi. But they would be done well before then. “Yes,” she said, unable to keep the nervous excitement out of her voice.
“I hear the beaches in Kirigakure are exquisite…and there are lots of places for couples to get away and be alone.” The hope in his voice was palpable as he asked, “Would you like to join me?”
Just like that, her despair was gone, replaced with giddy excitement. “I’ll put in my leave request first thing tomorrow,” she said, squeezing the phone tightly.
The smile was back in his voice. “As will I.”

for the title thing, if you're still willing to take any more: I Understood the Chemistry of Peace (You Covered Me in War Paint) - which is a lyric from one of my favorite songs
i am absolutely still answering them and also i just LOVE these lyrics, please what song is this??!!
okay i hope i can do this justice...
concept:
In another life, Gaara might have never been a demon. In another life, he might never have been a tool for violence. In another life, he might have been happy. They all might have been. At fourteen, just before his fifteenth birthday, when Gaara is given the opportunity to become Kazekage, he falters. Does he want this? Does he truly want to remain a tool of violence? Or does he want something more? Does he want something better? He stands at Suna's highest point, overlooking the desert as he tries to make the right choice, and the Wind gives him an answer: he is not a tool, but his power is greater than any other force in the desert, and if he becomes Kazekage, he can forge a path towards true peace. The next day, he accepts his new position, the words of the Wind rooted in his heart and his guide as he works to change the shinobi world.
This could easily be just a one-shot speculating what Gaara went through during that period before Shippuden or like a prologue to something greater. I feel like that title definitely has a lot of meat to it and part of me really wants to see this as the prologue or a prequel to a larger story again exploring Gaara working to dismantle the Kage system, the Daimyo, and shinobi militarization as a whole.

Hi hi hiii!! Could I have hcs on how the Sand Siblings would confess their love to their crush?
hi there friend!! thank you so much for this request, i loooove the sand sibs and they are some of my favorite characters. (ps. @soliavenne i hope these gaara hcs do him justice 😖) hope you enjoy, anon! ❤️
Tumblr media
It’s going to take a lot of thinking and processing before Gaara can even consider confessing to his crush
And based on everything he’s been through and all of the rejection as a child, it’s not unwarranted
This also depends on what era of Gaara we’re talking about. For instance, if this is well-into-his-tenure-as-Kazekage Gaara then he’s going to have a much easier time putting together a really sweet and genuine confession
Something tells me chuunin-exams Gaara would be reaaally confused by his feelings and might not even say anything to this person that makes his heart feel weird
But I’m going with Kazekage Gaara and can I just say that he would be an absolute SWEETHEART confessing?!?
Like it might be a little awkward and he might stumble over his words a bit trying to find the right ones, but he’ll get there and WOW is it gonna be right from the bottom of his heart
“I love you. There isn’t any other way to put it.”
Saying those three words will be simple and straightforward. Gaara doesn’t beat around the bush, especially when it comes to people he loves and cherishes.
(PLS accept his confession and tell him you love him back. He will give you the BIGGEST smile you’ve ever seen, and that’s saying a lot)
Tumblr media
ohhhh kank. what a doofus. our doofus
Yes he’s going to ask Temari for help on how to tell his crush, and yes she’s going to tease him. (If you’re dating, get used to this)
Kankuro is kind of like Obito in the sense that he’s extremely obvious about his crush. It’s not like he tries to be, but he gets fidgety easily and it just so happens he CANT sit still when his crush is around.
Chances are his crush is already aware of how he feels about them, it’s only a matter of him making it official
Kank is gonna stress for days about the minute details of the confession, like where he wants it to happen and what he should wear and should he wear his face makeup or not is that weird is it weird if he doesn't wear it what if he brings a puppet for moral support is THAT weird?!
Deep breathing exercises abound
But naturally the entire plan just falls apart and it’s an impromptu confession outside his and his crush’s favorite restaurant
“You probably already know but I’m gonna say it anyway... I like-- err, I love you.”
“More than puppets?” YES MORE THAN PUPPETS, Y/N
Tumblr media
Temari is definitely the most relaxed about this. At least, that’s how it looks on the outside.
She’s great at appearing put together on the outside, but on the inside... it’s a natural disaster
Temari is afraid of getting rejected, but knows that it’ll kill her if she keeps it to herself forever
Goes it alone when figuring out how to confess to them if only because Kankuro would never let her live it down
I think Temari would just let it happen, even as regimented as she is. (It’s literally eating her up inside trying to figure out every little detail so she’s like imma just do it)
Sees her crush on their way out the door in the early morning hours, most likely on their way to a new mission
NOW OR NEVERR
“I have to tell you something. Even if you don’t feel the same way, you have to know that... I really love you.”
Seeing them leave for a mission really spurs her to take the opportunity, and she is actually SOO red in the face
(please kiss her if you wanna see the rare flustered Temari)

I just wanted to say that I admire how you stand your ground and how you don’t let anyone get under your skin. You tell it like it is from the beginning :). I love people who don’t sugar coat things. I read through your caard and you mentioned how you don’t like with people portray naruto characters incorrectly or make them OOC, I was curious on how YOU personally interpret sasuke. If you’ve already don’t this before feel free to ignore this ask. I hope your having an amazing day :)
wow so there’re people that actually read my carrd jk thank you for this. god anon, there’s a lot of things to say about him and i think it’d take a lot of time so i’ll try to be as brief as possible. also, there’s a lot of stuff in my #naruto analysis tag.
i think he’s severely traumatised, clearly suffers from ptsd and most likely depression and, as much as his need of isolation and cutting bonds is a consequence of his trauma and depression, it’s also very unhealthy and he’d probably get worse by doing this, he needs help, and when people say he’d be better off alone, i think they don’t understand that. even though he’s kind of a loner, people don’t understand that it’s more because he’s too afraid of suffering from the loss of people he cares about (like he did) rather than actually wanting to be alone, he admires naruto for wanting to connect with people and says it’s a strength of his. this kind of isolation is understandable, but, as i said, it’s not healthy. he also suffers from survivor’s guilt, that’s why he tells naruto to get the hell out with sakura when gaara was losing it, he projects this need to save people because he couldn’t when it happened to his family. i think disregarding all this and saying he’s evil is a complete disrespect to his character. do i agree with murdering everybody? clearly no, but seeing him saying and wanting that is understandable, he’s not a bad person for this. it’s also very admirable how he wanted to know more before continuing with that plan, very rational of him. do i agree with his final resolution and version of being hokage? also no. i think it was pretty stupid and it wouldn’t work, and it wasn’t very democratic as much as the current system, but he also had some valid points. but i also don’t think everything is excused by “he’s traumatised” (i.e.). he expresses himself with a lot of rage too and it’s also understandable. you can also consider him a little bit reckless, like going to orochimaru was reckless, there was no guarantee he would be able to kill him and when he says orochimaru could have his body as long as he could get his revenge is kinda preocupating.
i think the biggest mischaracterisation of sasuke is the “he’s cold” “he isn’t loving” “he doesn’t know how to show affection” “he’s shy” trope, like none of these are true, he doesn’t hide when he loves someone, he cries for his family and for itachi and for naruto. as a kid he wants to make his father proud and asks his mom if he loves him, he wants to hang out with his brother and he complains about his distance. after the massacre he lives for getting justice for his family. he says explicitly more than once how naruto is his one and only friend and how important he is to him. he doesn’t want to cut naruto out, he thinks he needs to, it’s different. he’s also blunt, he won’t lie about his feelings or sugarcoat things, the only time he denies his feelings is in the beginning of part 2 when he’s actively trying to push naruto away, otherwise he’s very honest. people who claim those things clearly didn’t pay any attention to his character or are focusing on characters he doesn’t love. another mischaracterisation that’s really irritating is the horny and pushy sasuke, and that includes part of the sns fandom who act like sasuke is possessive and jealous and needs to fuck naruto at any opportunity he gets. yes, he loves naruto deeply, but he’s not clingy. he won’t pursue naruto, it’s one thing to accept that love and bonds aren’t necessarily a weakness (like he did at ch 698), it’s another thing to act like it, again, he’s overwhelmed by the enormity of his feelings for naruto, that’s why he tries so hard to push him away. he also needs constant reassurance of naruto’s feelings for him. this isn’t a trait of someone who’s the pursuer. he goes after what he wants when it comes to his family, it’s not what happens in naruto’s case, but you can’t deny that he’s a loving person. i think it’s ooc when people portray him as guilty or embarrassed, cause he’s never been like that (except for ch 699 which is ooc and other characters were already guilt tripping him). some people claim him to be extremely selfless and some claim him to be extremely selfish and i disagree with both, he has both selfish and selfless desires, just like every other normal person, depends on where you’re looking at. well, i guess i talked about the biggest misinterpretations of sasuke, there’s probably more but it’s almost 4am and i can’t remember everything now.

Top 10 favourite characters from any fandom
I was tagged by @limalepakko , thank you! Since I have recently listed male characters here (or you know, in August, but we all know time hasn't been a thing for many moons), I took the liberty to list characters in general this time. I also went with which characters feel right at the moment, so does not show all my favourites. I also try to keep these short. (edit: okay so these are not remotely short, I will post a list first and have the explanations be under the cut, read if you want to hear my ramblings c': )
1. Fantine, Les Misérables 2. Javert / Jean Valjean, Les Misérables (yes i am cheating) 3. Carrie "Big Boo" Black, Orange Is the New Black 4. Jane Marple, Agatha Christie's Marple 5. Aunt Lydia, The Handmaid's Tale 6. Bridget Jones, Bridget Jones books & movies 7. Rock Lee, Naruto 8. Sarah O'Brien, Downton Abbey 9. Marilla Cuthbert, Anne of Green Gables / Anne with an E 10. Sister Monica Joan, Call the Midwife
*
1. Fantine, Les Misérables
I love Fantine with all my heart. I remember reading Les Mis for the first time and her story sending chills down my spine. Her character development makes me so sad, from a girl who falls hard and fast and won't deny anything from her lover, to a woman who is so beaten down by society that she can't do anything but laugh at her fate. But I love how she doesn't lose her pride or her fighting spirit and how she still has the guts to spit in Valjean's face when she sees him after being arrested. And I love how all she does is for her daughter and how despite selling "the gold on her head and the pearls in her mouth" she is content, because all that matters to her is that Cosette will live.
*
2. Javert & Jean Valjean, Les Misérables
I was really trying to limit this list to one character per fandom, but alas, I am but a weak little person. Thus, I am cheating already. The thing is that when it comes to Les Mis characters, Fantine, Javert and Valjean are the eternal top 3 for me, but I'm never quite able to say who I love the most. Last time I picked Javert for the male character meme because I love the symbolism and critique of society his character embodies, but let it be known that Jean Valjean is the best character in all of literature and I will fight you on this. The original soft on crime icon (aside from Jesus Christ but they're the same and you know it). Valjean's character journey is such a complicated one from an ordinary man (no worse than any man) to a person, who had been shaped by society and criminal justice system to be a very dangerous man, to someone you could compare to a saint if you wanted to... To an ordinary man, who would do anything for his daughter. He has so many character-defining moments, the biggest ones being in my opinion the trial of Champmathieu and letting Javert go instead of killing him. I just love Jean Valjean so much and could speak about him for hours.
*
3. Carrie "Big Boo" Black, Orange Is the New Black
Hopping away from the Les Mis hole and into a OITNB hole. I was debating on whether I'd put Boo or Pennsatucky on this list since I love them both so much, but I've been feeling so much love for my angry butch king that it had to be her. First of all, I'm just so happy to see butch lesbian representation where the butch identity is not just a joke. I know OITNB sometimes uses Boo questionably, but in general she is a nuanced character and one of the most interesting ones in the series in my opinion. I'm so sad they forgot all about her on the last seasons. I love everything about her, how she has trouble with feelings besides anger and often deflects serious stuff through humor, how fiercely protective she is of those she loves (boosatucky otp forever fucking fight me), how proud she is of her butch identity ("i refuse to be invisible")... Also, not to express attraction, but... Mama I'm in love with a criminal. And not to be a slut for how characters view religion/spirituality/God, but the relieved smile she has in one of her flashbacks when she says "there's no God... there's nothing", like you can't just do stuff like that and expect me not to love the character to bits.
*
4. Jane Marple, Agatha Christie's Marple
Last time I listed Poirot and was a bit frustrated I couldn't list Marple, but now it's time to right that wrong! I love this little old lady so much. I love Agatha Christie so much for just going "you know who is the person who knows everything that's going on in a community, and thus would make the perfect detective for a detective story? the nosy old woman". As she is introduced in The Murder at the Vicarage: "Miss Marple is a white-haired old lady with a gentle, appealing manner — Miss Weatherby is a mixture of vinegar and gush. Of the two Miss Marple is much more dangerous." She is so likable and witty, you can't help but love her. My favourite portrayal of her is by Geraldine McEwan, she looks so gentle but has such a sharp gaze. I would spill all my secrets to her any day. I also am compelled to tell you that when I was a child we had a costume party at my school and I dressed up as Marple and learned some old lady things in English (it was before third grade so I didn't know much English back then) just for the occasion (such as "thank you, my dear", "what a lovely necklace you are wearing" or "there has been a murder"). Teacher might have thought me rather morbid but I remember that day being quite good.
*
5. Aunt Lydia, The Handmaid's Tale
The Handmaid's Tale is such a great series and a book and Aunt Lydia is such a great character. The way she's capable of being absolutely cruel and vicious, but how she is also protective and caring in her own way. One of my favourite scenes in this series is when Serena Joy (my other favourite, can you tell) tells Lydia to "remove the damaged ones" from a line of handmaids and Lydia tries to argue with her. Sure, she is responsible for some of the punishments these women are now "damaged" by, but she truly believes those punishments were for a greater good and now the handmaids deserve their place with the others as much as anyone else. It is chilling and the character is such a dark shade of morally gray, but I can't get enough of it. The actress who plays her, Ann Dowd, has so interesting thoughts about her, like here. I just love this character so much I could scream.
*
6. Bridget Jones, Bridget Jones books & movies
I'm mostly talking about the movies here because Renée Zellweger's performance is iconic. Plus the movies are what made me love this character first. But I'll give it to the books, they're one of the few books I've laughed out loud while reading. Anyway, how do you even begin explaining the love I have for Bridget Jones... I love how she is a character so many people can relate but who would be a comic relief side character in some other story. Yes, yes, it is really bad that she is constantly described as fat when she really is not, but when I was growing up she gave me hope that people who are viewed as fat and/or unattractive by other people can be admired and appreciated, and they don't have to be super talented at everything and highly intelligent and some kind of a super smooth social butterfly to "make up" for what they "lack". And also that they can have standards (i once dodged a bullet by rejecting someone by pretty much subconsciously quoting Bridget Jones so..). I also love how the comedic tone of everything does not dismiss Bridget's feelings. For example in some other movie we maybe would concentrate on how "stupid" Bridget was to trust that Daniel was in love with her, but in Bridget Jones we concentrate on how Bridget was hurt by Daniel cheating on her, how he is the one who did wrong. Idk I just love Bridget Jones so very much can you tell.
*
7. Rock Lee, Naruto
Aka the boy who would have kicked Madara in the balls if Kishimoto had any sense of drama and good storytelling. I think I robbed Lee by not putting him on the fav male characters list. You know that post that goes like "gays be like 'these are my comfort characters', 1 literal ray of sunshine, 2 war criminal" etc? This child is the sunshine. I've been reading and watching Naruto again ( @hapanmaitogai is my sideblog for that nonsense) and I'm so ready to adopt Lee and/or Gai. Rock Lee is just such an earnest character, he has a goal he will give anything to achieve and he's the one true underdog in this manga. I love how he's so kind and polite (it's not so clear in English but in the Finnish translation he speaks as formally as he does in Japanese, he uses singular polite "you", calls Sakura "Sakura-neiti" = "Miss Sakura" etc... i love one polite boy). Also, he has the best fights in the series. Like Lee vs Gaara is a Classic, but we simply can't forget that time Lee absolutely crushed Sasuke in just a few minutes, or that time he politely asked Kimimaro not to kill him while he drinks his medicine. The best boy. I love that boy so much.
*
8. Sarah O'Brien, Downton Abbey
Last time it was Thomas' turn, so now I must talk about the snakiest snake, the queen of weaponized handmaidenry, Miss O'Brien. She is such a great character especially in the first two seasons (I obviously love her on season three as well but Julian Fellowes really tried to make it hard by not explaining her actions at all, didn't he. Well, luckily I am ready to stuff the gaps with my headcanons). She has some of the best comebacks in the series and brings some needed realism in some conversations. I also love how she uses her position as a lady's maid for her advantage and how she is proud of her profession despite being highly aware of the power structures in the Abbey. And then there is the soap. That is such a good character moment, because for a character who always plans ahead, who is ruthless and cunning and intelligent... I don't think O'Brien thought about the soap thing at all before she left the room ("Sarah O'Brien, this is not who you are" hit me like a train). Just once she did something with nothing but anger motivating her and that became one of the defining moments of her character. And one of the defining things of the future relationship between her and Cora. That's why I find the Sarah/Cora ship so interesting, because there will always be the undercurrent of bitter regret. Also Sarah O'Brien and Thomas Barrow are the greatest brotp and Fellowes was a coward for driving the smoking scheming gay best friends apart, and

9. Marilla Cuthbert, Anne of Green Gables / Anne with an E
I'm not saying L.M. Montgomery is entirely responsible for me having a fondness for strict, older women who first act unkind but have a heart of gold, but she most certainly did not help. Between characters like Marilla Cuthbert and Elizabeth Murray, how can you not fall in love with the type? It's been a while since I read the Anne series, but I really love how Marilla's character has been adapted into the Anne with an E tv series. Geraldine James looks like she was born to play her, she has me in tears so often. She has the ability to portray someone like Marilla, who is a very hard and stern person but feels deeply for her loved ones. I was watching the episode that dealt with Matthew's heart attack and Marilla berating her brother while hugging herself like she was trying so hard to hold herself together absolutely destroyed my heart.

10. Sister Monica Joan, Call the Midwife
It was a tough choice between her and Sister Evangelina. I just love these nuns very much. Sister Monica Joan is such a lovable and wise character. She is so knowledgeable of many subjects, from the Bible to astrology, and I feel like her unspecified memory problems and confusion are handled very tastefully. I also love how she's such an important part of her community despite not working as a midwife anymore. She is such a kind woman and gets visibly upset when others are treated poorly. And how could I not mention her saying "I do not believe in weeds. A weed is simply a flower that someone decides is in the wrong place", like... I love her so so much.

I won't tag anyone, but if you read this and you want to do this, consider yourself tagged and you're no allowed to mark me as the one who tagged you!

request: “could i have an imagine for gaara and rin okumura? naruto and blue exorcist? like them falling in love, asking them to marry them, and finally the wedding? thanks!! it doesn’t have to follow canon if you’d like!”
rin okumura x fem! reader (au?)
fandom: blue exorcist / ao no exorcist
note: no one has requested naruto or blue exorcist, i’m doing both but on different imagines
falling in love
You knew Rin through Shiemi. You were the louder best friend as Shiemi tended to be the quieter one of the two. The two of you were biology partners and she offered to help you whenever you were falling behind.
“Shiemi, you haven’t watched the documentary?” You half screamed as you stopped her in the middle of hall. “The Beyonce documentary was life changing! Are you kidding me? Even Izumo watched it!”
Shiemi laughed, “I don’t have Netflix, I’m sorry!”
“Enough of that, you at least have to listen to the album! It’s a life changing experience.” You shoved your headphone in her ear and started blasting it.
You were dancing through the halls, Shiemi noticed the friends she had been meaning to introduce you to. Not wanting to stop you from dancing, she walked to them and questioned who the new girl was. Rin felt his face go red. He had never met Shiemi’s cute friend before.
“Hey, why’d we stop?” You asked as you seen the new people in front of you. She had told you about her other friends before but you never got around to meeting them. The group was an odd one to say the least.
“(your name), these are my friends. Rin and Yukio are twins. You know Izumo. The rest of them are Ryuki, Shima, Suguro, and Konekomaru.” Shiemi said quietly as you shook their hands. “This is (your name), my Biology partner.”
“Are you finally showing her the Beyonce album?” Izumo asked jokingly as she took the headphone from Shiemi’s ear. “Great album, right?”
“Sure.” Shiemi responded as Rin finally worked up the courage to finally talk. “Is it the Homecoming album? I just finished it!”
You spun around to Rin and grabbed the poor kid by the shoulders, “Wasn’t it great! Tell me! Beyonce is a god, right!” You were excitingly talking to Rin as the others sighed in defeat. They had just shut Rin up about it and now here you were talking about it.
“YES!” Rin screamed back just as excited. “Those transitions!” Both you and Rin squealed as they all groaned. They knew it was best to leave the two of you alone but decided otherwise and dragged you both to lunch. Shiemi had you in one hand as Yukio had Rin in the other.
//
Since that day, Rin was hooked. He waited for both you and Shiemi outside of the Biology lab. At first he claimed that he needed to talk to Shiemi but after a while, he started to talk to you. On the days that Shiemi wasn’t there, he still stood outside with you.
With whatever money he had, he’d make enough food for you now. Yukio could tell his older brother was starting to fall in love. He was happy for Rin. The two of you were exactly alike in terms of personality and interests and although you weren’t seeking Yukio’s approval, you had it.
Shiemi approved on Rin’s behalf. She preferred that you dated him. It beat the last relationship you were in. She still had nightmares of seeing you so heartbroken over some idiot guy. Now all she had to do was beg Izumo to threaten Shima for going after you.
Rin’s problem came in when he had to finally ask you out on a date. He knew that he could cook you a meal and just talk but he felt inclined to do more than that. Shiemi and Yukio were able to tell that Rin was starting to panic about the idea of having to ask you out.
“(your name) is a simple person.” Shiemi explained. “She doesn’t need some kind of elaborate plan. Just make a lot of food, she could eat more than you think.”
“Here she comes!” Yukio screamed as he pushed Rin into you and the two of them scurried away.
Rin tried to think of the excuse he was going to but couldn’t come up with one by the time you got to him, “Where’d Shiemi go? We usually get together on Friday nights and watch Netflix together.”
“Well, you see!” Rin tried saying. “I was wondering if you’d like to come over to my dorm! I’m making food and I’d like for you to try it!”
“Yeah sure, just text me your dorm number and I’ll stop by!” You said calmly. “But it’s lunchtime now and I’m starving! So?”
“Breakfast food?” “You read my mind!”
//
Evening finally came and you made your way to the boys dorm. You knocked on the door and Rin screamed for you to come in. For Rin being the unorganized mess he was, the room was in pretty decent shape but maybe it was Yukio that did all of the cleaning.
“So what are you making me, Okumura?” You asked as you helped Rin to the kitchen. A few students were leaving the kitchen as the two of you entered it. “Sukiyaki, it’s my best dish.”
You cheered as you sat across from Rin. He pinned his hair back as he slipped on the apron. He threw you the extra he had and helped you tie it from the back.
“You’ll be helping me cut the vegetables.” Rin instructed as he handed you the various veggies. You slowly started to cut the carrots as he turned the stove on. “Make sure you don’t cut yourself!”
“I can cook!” You said as you showed him your proficient cutting skills. “Okay, maybe I can’t cook as great as you can but I know how to cook some things!”
Rin laughed as he let the things in the pot start to simmer and went over to you to help you out.
As time continued, the kitchen was was getting extremely hot but Rin knew it was about to be done. “Go wash up and by the time you’re done, the food will be on the table!”
You smiled as you went towards the bathroom. Rin ran to his room and grabbed the note he had written beforehand.
“Go out with me?”
By the time you got out of the bathroom, Rin was setting the utensils down. He pulled your chair out and pushed it back in before he went to sit down himself. Before you had gotten there, he pre made dessert. Shiemi had told him that you loved any kind of cake but red velvet was your favorite so he made you that.
As you were about to grab a napkin, you noticed a paper fall from the napkin. Picking it up from the floor, you opened it and read it. You could feel that your face was extremely red as Rin looked at you nervously.
“Rin, of course!” You laughed as you grabbed his hand over the table. “FUCK YEAH!”
//
Rin asking you to marry him.
The two of you were out of True Cross Academy and still going strong. He couldn’t lie, he knew you were it for him. No one else on this god forsaken earth could handle him better than you could. Not even Yukio or Shiro for that matter.
You dealt with him no one was able too. Rin did have his moments where the two of you even wondered if the relationship was even worth it but whatever hurtles came in the way, Rin made sure the two of you got through it together.
For the first time in a while, everyone finally had a chance for a vacation. To the normal person, they would have just thought that it was a regular vacation but Rin knew this was the perfect time to propose to you. He decided a few days in Paris wouldn’t hurt so he surprised you with the tickets.
He was taking Shiemi and Yukio along to make the proposal run smoothly. Rin had found a quaint restaurant near the Eiffel tower to make the proposal. All he had to do was lure you near the Eiffel tower and he’d act like he just found the restaurant and go in for the kill.
//
“Rin, you really didn’t have to do all of this.” You said as you held his upper arm. “Traveling anywhere in Japan could have done justice for a vacation. Lord knows we needed it.”
Rin chuckled, “Who wants to stay in Japan when we had the opportunity to go to another country?” You nodded finally agreeing as the two of you passed the sign that read “Eiffel Tower up ahead”.
“Babe, I’m hungry. Before we get there, we should get something to eat.” Rin said nervously. “Yeah sure, I could go for some food. I just hope it’s something edible. The food we ate this morning still has my stomach turning.”
Rin let go of a breath he was holding and walked you to the destination. You found it a bit odd that he had already picked out a restaurant but you didn’t question it. Maybe he actually wanted to be prepared this time.
The two of you got to a restaurant that was smaller than others. You wondered why there wasn’t much traction to it but you didn’t want to jinx yourself.
“Party for Okumura.” Rin said as he discreetly gave the signal to the hostess who immediately knew what was about to happen. “Right this way, we have an opening on the roof if you’d like.”
Rin turned to you and nodded as the hostess gave the signal to the waitress. She went up to you and had the two of you follow up to the roof tables. You were mesmerized by the lights and cute scenery that the roof had offer.
“I’ll be back with your menus!” The waitress said as she excused herself. “Rin, it’s beautiful, now I for sure have to plan a better vacation after this.”
Rin chuckled as he waived you off, “I don’t think you’ll ever top me.”
Just as you were about to retort, you could have sworn that you had seen Shiemi and Yukio but before you could question it, the waitress had came back.
“We have an offer on all couples tonight, a free bottle of wine of your choosing.” The waitress said as she showed you the variety of wines. You looked at them before turning to Rin. “Whatever you want is okay with me.”
You laughed and picked out a random red wine, “This one is okay! Thank you so much!”
“No problem. Have the two of you decided on a meal?” She asked as she turned to Rin. “Yes. we’re both having steak tonight.”
She nodded and took the menus from your hand.
From that point on, all Rin had to do was the actual proposing. He was going to wait until after dinner when Yukio gave him the signal that all parties had left the rooftop. He was going to have Yukio on standby with a camera hoping he’d catch the perfect moment.
The dinner had went smoothly. You weren’t suspecting a thing and by the end, you were already dozing off sleepily.
“Hey, if you’re tired, we just need to do one thing and we can head back to the room.” Rin said as he looked over to Yukio. “Just trust me on this.”
Rin grabbed your hand and stood you up as he went down on one knee.
“Through the cram school and every shit storm that followed, you were there for me. Not only for me but for Yukio and everyone else as well. I knew the from the minute that we met when you were screaming about that Beyonce album that you were the one. You taught me things that I would have only learned from you and I hope that once this journey hopefully continues, you can teach me a lot more. Will you do me the honor of marrying me and becoming the next Okumura?”
That was the moment Yukio captured the moment. Tears were falling down your face as your hand went to your mouth. You were entranced by the ring before realizing that you still hadn’t given Rin an answer.
“Yes Rin, of course!” You screamed as he finally slipped the ring on your finger. Once he knew the ring was secure, he grabbed you and lifted you up. “Yukio, Shiemi, the two of you can come out now.”
You turned around to see the two and ran straight into Shiemi’s arms as she congratulated you. Yukio gave Rin a ‘bro’ hug before going over to you and giving you another hug, this one much more affectionate.
//
Wedding day.
Planning for a wedding was a lot harder than you thought. You were arguing a lot more with Rin than you had originally thought but finally after months of arguing and bickering to no end, the day finally came.
The wedding was held at Rin’s old monastery, much to everyones surprise. The two of you had preferred a small wedding with just clothes friends and family. Most of your family along with everyone who raised Rin and Yukio and everyone in the cram school.
The colors suited the wedding nicely. Dark blue and white were the only colors that the two of you had agreed on. The reception, being that it was a decently warm day was going to be in the back of the monastery.
You were shoved into one of the spare rooms to do finishing touches as Rin and Yukio stood at the front of the monastery.
“Never thought the day would come, huh, Okumura?” He heard Bon say. “Yeah man, I’m glad all of you were able to make it.”
He gave Rin a smile as Shiemi came in running, “It’s time! She’s ready! Everyone to their places!”
They all listened to the frantic Shiemi and got to their places. Rin stood at the end of the alter as he fiddled with his bowtie. The minute the music started playing, he stopped and straightened up.
The doors opened and you were at the front of the aisle as everyone stood up and awed. You gave Rin you familiar wink as your parent held your arm. Once you got to the end of the aisle, Rin thanked your parents and took your hand.
This was it. Everything that the two of you went through finally paid off.

Last Week in Anime: Big Battles Edition
Welcome to Last Week in Anime, where we look at some of the greatest clips from the last seven days! All the big shonen series are hitting a peak of action at the same time, so after last week’s article building up to big battles, we’ve gotten some amazing episodes of intense combat. Although the big one is still coming with My Hero Academia, Black Clover and Boruto both hit major fights while Sword Art Online Alternative and Golden Kamuy are each leaning into their own action. Also, another anime is joining Umamusume at the horse races!
youtube
My favorite fight from last week has been a long time in coming, the battle between Yami and Licht and man did Pierrot deliver, putting up the best animated episode of Black Clover yet. I let my hopes get really high for this episode but was still blown away by some absolutely unforgettable sequences. Although Asta got his own highlight and the Yami fight got several more great moments, even this clip doesn’t do justice to how good the episode was. The series has also hit its comedic pace and, between extended segments of eye-melting action, it was non-stop Yami gags of him not taking the situation he’s in seriously while making Asta’s life as hard as possible.
youtube
Speaking of action, we’re finally back into some serious battles after an extend period of setting up the stakes in SAOA. LLENNS return to Squad Jam didn’t make us wait, almost immediately delivering another high speed fight reminiscent of her solo squad takedown from the first episodes. The end of the clip in particular has some satisfying moments from her baseball slide, the last second dodge of the sniper fire, and how immensely dead that guy Fukaziroh shot is. The newest ep is just as bloody so it’s likely going to make it on to next week's article and it feels like we’re gonna be riding this combat train until the end of the season.
youtube
SAOA isn’t the only series that looks like it’s going to be leaning into big battles for the foreseeable future. Boruto capped off its Chunin exams with a battle royale that was really a 2v1. Shinki’s iron sand hands are a cool take on Gaara’s own techniques that give him a sense of personality. I wasn’t sold until he blocked both their attacks with the two hands wrapping around him as if clasped in prayer and the rifle shot punches he throws out a bit later. You know Shinki is overpowered but this fight really makes you feel like Boruto and Sarada never stood a chance and the conclusion had some great effects animation. Now, after all that is when the real villains actually arrive.
youtube
Golden Kamuy walks a weird line between comedy, charm, and brutality and no scene better represents than the absolutely bizarre fight to the death between Sugimoto and Henmi. The soft orchestral accompaniment was straight out of Hannibal and the odd juxtaposition between mortal combat and soulful eye-gazing makes for a tough call between laughing and cringing. As always, the violence is visceral but the battle seems to conclude with a happy ending. After an intense hand-to-hand, it’s looking like today we have a more strategic fight waiting for us today with Tanigaki’s flight from the 7th division sharpshooter Ogata.
youtube
A clip with a real lesson. Don’t gamle, kids. Especially if you’re still kids and it’s actually illegal for you to be gambling. This episode of Hinamatsuri might have been the darkest yet, with Hitomi’s downward spiral accelerating and Anzu catching some of her only friend’s bad luck. Fortunately Anzu redeems it in the end, but this clip is great not only for the jokes, but also for fans of Umamusume, who might recognize the track as well as the names of one (or more) of the horses Anzu bets on. Pretty sure Hitomi developed an ulcer over the course of the clip though...
That's all for this week! What was your favorite moment that you'd like to watch on repeat? Have a conflict that was set-up last week that you can't wait to see explode in the coming episode? Let us know in the comments below!

Hello! I need to catch up on Naruto and I would like to know since you are a fan of Sasuke why do you like his character ? I often think Sasuke is misunderstood by a lot of people, myself I have sometimes a hard time understanding him but I find him interesting ! Hope this question don't bother you, have a good day! :)
Hi! Don’t worry, your question doesn’t bother me at all! My reply is under the readmore. I’m sorry that it got so gigantic! It almost turned into a novel lol. It also may contain mild spoilers so please proceed with caution :)
One of the reasons I like him is because he’s human. Sasuke went through extreme trauma and mental torture at the age of 9, received absolutely no treatment or therapy for it, and was sent to live by himself in the same house his parents were murdered in. He didn’t get any help to deal with his trauma as he grew up. Would a normal human be able to get over such a thing simply because they found friends? to me the fact that Sasuke still suffers and is so affected by his trauma is what makes him realistic. He always needs to rely on a big life goal, put all of his thoughts and efforts into it, whether it’s revenge or justice or redemption, because if he doesn’t have one, it would be just him and his trauma to focus on, and would anyone be able to actually live like that? To me it’s amazing that Sasuke was even able to go on living by himself, to go to school and study and even find emotional attachment to people, protect them and sacrifice himself for them.
In general, most humans aren’t simply good or bad. The majority of us can be kind and generous while still being mean and selfish at times. We can be strong and still have moments of absolute weakness. The majority of us struggle with our mental illnesses and don’t just “get over it”, especially without any help. Sasuke is kind and selfless; he sacrificed himself for Naruto during the Haku fight, was ready to sacrifice himself again to save Naruto and Sakura during the Gaara fight, during the chuunin exams Kabuto pointed out how soft he was because he refused to attack him to get his scroll despite the fact that that’s what the exam required of him, in early shippuden he refused to kill anyone and ordered Taka not to kill, he learned how to extinguish the Amaterasu flames in order to save Karin, he threw himself in front of Sarada to protect her, he gave up on a peaceful life for himself for the sake of protecting their hard-earned world peace. But he also had times when he could be mean and selfish, when the pressure and the sadness were just too much, when he didn’t know how to deal with the trauma and the lies and the shock. And to me that’s a character that I can support, not because I think his mistakes were justified but because he’s not a messiah, he actually has to struggle with himself and his flaws, he has to fight against his trauma and his mental illnesses, which is what most humans are like instead of simply being wise and strong and flawless from the start.
What people fail to understand about Sasuke is that he’s a good person; that’s exactly the reason why his cruelty during the Gokage meeting arc was so shocking to every character in the story, because it was there to show that he wasn’t himself anymore; that’s exactly why the explanation of the “Uchiha curse” exists; and yet for some reason people tend to take that as being Sasuke’s actual personality, despite the fact that the manga had shown him in his normal state before, that we had actually gotten to see his gradual fall into darkness and his reason for it.
I like how Sasuke tends to be silent and distant on the outside but soft and kind on the inside. It’s thanks to him that team 7 gets accepted by Kakashi in the first place, because he decides to feed Naruto even though he was told not to. When he hears that Itachi is in the village, the first thing he worries about is Naruto’s safety, not his own safety or his own goals. He notices when Sakura is feeling down and comforts her by praising her abilities. He rarely ever expresses his feelings in words but he shows them with his actions; by sacrificing himself for someone, by protecting them, by showing pride towards their accomplishments, by gestures like the forehead poke. You’ll rarely find him saying cheesy things but if he cares about you and loves you, you’ll know. On the inside, he loves intensely. (Btw, how cute is it that he feeds cats and makes friends with them during his travels?)
Another thing I like about Sasuke is his extreme love and loyalty towards his family. Maybe it’s because I’ve been raised in a culture where family is always the most important, but I can’t help but appreciate how none of the things he did throughout the series were for himself, but for his family. People think Sasuke is disloyal because he “betrayed” Konoha but the truth is, Sasuke’s loyalty was never with Konoha to begin with, from the start it was always about family, he wanted to be acknowledged by his father, he wanted to join the Uchiha police force. He loved his mother and brother so much, cared about his father’s impression of him, was so proud of his family. And every single thing he wanted to do throughout the series was for them, wanting to avenge them, restore their honor, protect Konoha for Itachi’s sake. The fact that Sasuke and the rest of the Uchiha saw “the Uchiha” and “Konoha” as two separate entities and were only loyal to one of those was a result of Konoha’s own choice to alienate the Uchiha; you can’t treat a group of people like shit and then expect them to somehow love you and be loyal to you.
Sasuke doesn’t fit any generic shounen character type. His character is complex. He starts off as the typical rival but soon his character goes its own way. He has his own goals, his own path in life, his own relationships and his story doesn’t revolve around the main character or catching up to him. In fact it’s the opposite, it’s Naruto whose story mostly revolves around Sasuke. He’s one of the characters who makes this story unpredictable and interesting. Because let’s be real, the plot of Naruto is rather predictable. Naruto meets villain, Naruto has training arc or gets a powerup, Naruto defeats villain, rince and repeat until he becomes Hokage. Even one of the biggest “mysteries” of the series, Tobi’s identity, was predicted by everyone after his very first appearance. Throughout all of this it’s Sasuke who keeps the story interesting, because you’re never really sure what he’s gonna do, how he’s gonna react to things, where he’s gonna end up. That’s the reason why he was/is often the main subject of discussion even among people who don’t like him. Even up until the very end some people were saying he was gonna come back and become anbu, some were saying he would leave with taka, some thought he would die. No one could really guess where he would end up, whereas with other characters things were much more easy to predict.
I like Sasuke because I actually stop to look at things from his point of view as well; I know it’s hard to do so when the narrative always presents things from Naruto and Sakura’s side. It’s easy to just look at the surface and say: Sasuke made Naruto and Sakura sad, therefore he is bad. But when I look at things from Sasuke’s point of view, I understand all of the things he does, and I realize the choices he makes are often the most realistic considering his situation.
Let’s start from the very beginning. A lot of people hate Sasuke because they think he “treated Naruto like shit” throughout part one. But if you actually take the time to read the manga, who was the one who showed contempt towards the other first? It was Naruto. He hates Sasuke because he’s popular and Sakura likes him. This is established from the very beginning. The accidental kiss happened because Naruto tried to provoke Sasuke as a result of his jealousy. Naruto was the one who attacked Sasuke first—tied him up and tried to kiss Sakura while posing as him. And yet only minutes after that Sasuke still chose to defend him against Sakura. Throughout the rest of part one Sasuke and Naruto do bicker and fight a lot, but all of those fights and insults are two-sided and yet for some reason I only ever see people focus on Sasuke’s side.
It’s the same with all of the more serious fights between them. The majority of them were actually started by Naruto. People claim that Sasuke mistreated and/or abused Naruto and Sakura; but the truth is, if Sakura and Naruto hadn’t chased after Sasuke, Sasuke wouldn’t have even met any of them between chapter 180 and 631. That’s the space between when he left Konoha and when he joined the war. That’s more than 450 chapters. Naruto is the one who started the first big Nar/Sas fight. He chased after Sasuke and told him he’d “break his arms and legs and bring him back like a broken stick” if he had to. The fight against team Kakashi in Orochimaru’s lair happened because they chased after him and tried to bring him back. The fight in the Gokage meeting arc happened because Sakura chased after Sasuke and tried to kill him by herself. Sasuke simply left and made it clear to them that he had severed their bonds; they’re the ones who went after him. You can’t be an abuser when you don’t even want a relationship with your so-called victims. Every single time, he was either rejecting them and/or retaliating against their own attacks. Am I saying they shouldn’t have tried to stop him even when he was a criminal? No, but people shouldn’t pretend that Sasuke was specifically going after Sakura and Naruto to hurt or “abuse” them, when they’re the ones who chased after him. He was an enemy of Konoha because the village had murdered his family in cold blood. It’s not about “abuse” or Sakura and Naruto’s feelings.
And it’s easy to only consider their feelings in this situation; oh, they loved him and wanted to save him but he rejected them, he’s such an ass. But the truth is Sasuke doesn’t have to go back to the village that killed off his family, made him miserable and offered him no support as a childjust to make them happy. He doesn’t have to put their feelings before his own. He doesn’t have to put them, teammates that he had been with for a few months at most, over his family that raised him for 9 years. People are allowed to reject relationships they don’t want. Yes, rejection hurts, but it doesn’t automatically make the person who rejected you an asshole.
It’s easy to judge Sasuke for his decisions without paying attention to the circumstances that caused him to make them. “He betrayed his friends and left Konoha”— even though he had just had the shit beaten out of him by his brother, had been mentally tortured for days within a genjutsu, had been told he was weak because he didn’t have enough hate. People just expect a twelve-year-old to deal with it and move on.“He flip-flopped too much”—despite the fact that he had had his entire world turned upside down because he had been told that his whole life was a lie, his abusive brother loved him all along and it was Konoha who had caused his misery. I don’t know how or why people expect someone to just stay strong while being put through all of that.
I have a lot of issues with the series itself and the morals it tries to convey. For example, the series tries to pit “talent” and “hard work” against each other; Kishimoto seems to think that talented people don’t work hard or that they are somehow assholes by default (it’s also hypocritical because later on we find out Naruto himself actually had a lot of natural talents and advantages as well). I see a lot of people make arguments such as “Sasuke had everything handed to him while Naruto worked hard”. They ignore how hard Sasuke worked to learn the fireball jutsu and the Chidori, or how he trained with Orochimaru for three years, they also ignore that Naruto was able to learn the Rasenshuriken with minimal effort because of his naturally high chakra reserves or that almost the entirety of his power as an adult relies on Kurama, something that was given to him at birth. They ignore that everytime Sasuke got a free powerup Naruto got one too.
I also hate how the series tries to portray Sasuke and anyone else who wants reform or justice as a villain. Kishimoto thinks status quo > reform. It doesn’t matter if keeping the status quo means sweeping genocides under the rug, trampling on the rights of smaller villages with less power, ignoring the discrimination happening within clans. As long as “the village” is still standing, everything is okay. Don’t try to fix anything. Accept the “darkness” of the village. I come from a country with a dictatorship, so it’s much easier for me to understand Sasuke who wanted change rather than Konoha and their obsession with keeping everything as is. Yes, Sasuke’s method of fixing things was wrong, but people forget that this boy’s role model was Itachi, the one who thought the best way to protect a little kid was to torture him and tell him to live with hate, and it’s not like anybody actually condemned those actions. Everyone who knew the truth about Itachi thought he was the wisest person in history—the fandom does as well. And yet people are surprised when Sasuke thinks the best way to fix the system is through making people hate him. Only then does the fandom start talking about how “Sasuke should’ve learned from Itachi’s mistakes”, despite the fact that every other time they deny Itachi even made mistakes. The fact that Sasuke is ready to live a life of misery where everyone hates him is proof of how selfless he is, because yes it’s a misguided decision but it’s not a pleasant one, it’s not something he’s doing for himself. In the end instead of finding a better way to fix the system, Naruto just decides to keep the status quo.
Of course I like his design and abilities as well. I mean let’s be real, the duckbutt is almost iconic at this point, lol. Sasuke has the most interesting fighting style, the swordplay combined with the fire and the way he evolved Kakashi’s Chidori into so many different weapons. Not to mention his switcheroo ability after he gets the rinnegan. In my opinion he also gets the most interesting fights as well, Sasuke vs Deidara is still one of my favorites.
Anyways I’m sorry that this post got so long. This is why I never write character analysis, I tend to ramble way too much lol. Hope you have a nice day and thanks for the ask!

sfw and nsfw Gaara headcanons of him w/ a female-aligned s/o who grew up poor so he likes spending a lot and spoiling her? she pays him back with sexual favors? (bc she wants to not bc she thinks she's obligated to). maybe some princess play stuff and she wears a lot of pink and pastels and is girly? kiiiinda dd/lg vibes but not rly bc I dont think Gaara would be down to be called "daddy" imo lmao (sorry if this ask squicks out or triggers the mods. sincere apologies)
A/N: I feel like this is kinda like him being a sugar daddy lol. I hope I did that justice, I don’t really see Gaara being a dd/lg kind of guy. But who knows :)
SFW
▪️Gaara would buy her anything she wants. I feel like even without the sexual favors he’d still want to buy her things. He’d always make sure that she’s fed. Since she was poor and all he wouldn’t want her to go hungry.
▪️If he wasn’t doing Kazekage work he’d probably sit with her on the balcony and watch the clouds go by. They’d talk about each other’s day. She’d be wearing one of the outfits he brought for her all pink and frilly.
▪️He’d smile when she’d go on and on about her day and her adventures, it’d be that warm Gaara smile he does too. She’d melt and kick her feet back and forth since they’re sitting up high, he’d have his arm around her, holding her close.
▪️I feel like she has a couple of bears he purchased for her. She snuggles with them whenever he’s busy working until he’d make it home. Which is usually late in the night.
NSFW
▪️So, when he does come home he’ll crawl into bed with her and she’d be wearing a very revealing nightgown, that’s pink. He’d pull her close to his chest while his hands wandered all over her body squeezing and maybe some fingering. All the while whispering about the things he was going to do to her.
▪️It’d be one day he’d be at his desk in the Kage mansion and she’d walk in with one of the outfits he had surprised her with, all pastel colored. She’d strip for him, dance for him and then go over to his desk and sit on it and wait.
▪️He’d be like “Princess, you know I’m busy.” Then she’d say “Yeah I know but I wanted to play.” He wouldn’t oppose of it and if it’s in his office he’d make it a quickie, she’d give him head under the desk. Both very well satisfied actually.
▪️I don’t see Gaara being overly rough with his partner. He’d always make sure she’s okay and even ask once more before entering her. “Princess can I take you now?” He’d tear through the nightgown though, probably blind fold her with the remains of it before fucking her from behind.

How do you see Sasuke and Gaara's relationship as friends/evolved towards friendship?
i love this question anon! thank you! i hope i can do it justice, because i definitely feel that Sasuke and Gaara have a lot of potential in relating to one another. They are both incredibly similar, i’d say more so than Naruto, and while they do have a lot of differences, I think ultimately they share more common trauma and mental health issues than not.
Which is why i wish the potential friendship wasn’t glossed over or just reduced to bad jokes from the fandom about gaara being jealous of sasuke
now it’s been a while since i’ve done a full rewatch, but i think the first thing that should be pointed out is that gaara picked sasuke. during the chuunin exams, he saw sasuke as an equal before he ever so much as fought sasuke. he overlooked naruto, he underestimated lee... but he picked sasuke. he saw sasuke, he saw the look in his eyes and he knew. he knew they were the same--they were both deeply scarred from their childhoods of abuse, neglect, violence, betrayal... Yashamaru, the only person Gaara had in his life who he thought loved him, tried to kill him; Itachi, the person Sasuke idolized, his older brother who was perfect and wonderful, killed their entire clan and then tortured sasuke.
they both had a deeply violent trauma inflicted upon them from a very young age, and they both went to a very dark place. both were also shown to be somewhat similar as children--both kind, both warm, both caring, both loving. I would argue that prior to the trauma, they were both on a path towards becoming incredibly soft, gentle men--a fact which does play out with Gaara and to an extent Sasuke (look at his relationship with animals). Naruto, though he has gone to a dark place too, reacted differently to his trauma. He became loud, he became a trouble maker. He wanted to be acknowledged, so he acted out. Gaara and Sasuke were not on a path towards acknowledgement.
Sasuke wanted vengeance for his clan--something that he was told to seek out by itachi himself. Gaara, though it’s less explicit, wanted vengeance for himself.
I think in his choice to love only himself and to kill as a way to prove his existence, really speaks to a similar perspective that Sasuke had. He needed to be the strongest, he needed to be the best--but for Gaara, Yashamaru was already dead. He couldn’t do anything to his father, the Kazekage, which is where the blame should be placed--his father and the council. But he can’t do anything to them, and he can’t just destroy his entire village though he obviously did try. Gaara’s actions, his reactions, everything about his breakdown and subsequent change after Yashamaru’s betrayal and death speaks to feeling trapped, feeling like he had no other options, feeling helpless.
I think Sasuke also felt helpless.
Sasuke was forced to live in the Uchiha compound even after the massacre. He had to relive the trauma he’d faced over and over again. He was forced to walk the same streets where he’d found the bodies of every one of his family members, he was forced to live in the house he’d found his parents... over and over again. every single day for years.
That sort of repetitive trauma creates a sense of helplessness, and pushes him harder to follow the path Itachi laid out for him. He’s desperate to kill itachi, which makes him an easy target for later manipulation.
Gaara’s repeated trauma wasn’t just the abuse from the village, which is obviously something he does share with Naruto, but specifically the five other assassination attempts on his life (something that Naruto does not share). Obviously, those other attempts would have similarly resulted in the deaths of those five other ANBU who’d been given that task. But those attempts on his life are not only singularly traumatic for Gaara in that the attempts are being made at all, but they also rehash the horrible betrayal from Yashamaru and his subsequent death. They remind him time and again that his father hates him. His village hates him, his uncle hated him, his mother hated him. I think, in many ways, the violent deaths around Gaara, caused by him, are a rehashing of that trauma caused by Yashamaru. While Gaara was trying to embody what Yashamaru said, what his mother supposedly named him for (ware o aisuru shura, “self-loving carnage”), I think too he was trying to relive that trauma out of confusion.
we don’t have a lot of onscreen time with Gaara from this time. the number of onscreen deaths at his hand (4) don’t really paint a full picture, but i would argue that almost every person he killed was worth killing in some way or another. look at how he brushed off Naruto early on or Lee at the start of their match, I don’t think Gaara killed people who he felt didn’t matter. In the Forest of Death, he killed those three Ame shinobi because they had the scroll and because ultimately they were in the way of obtaining it, but also because the leader of that trio made it clear he thought he was stronger than Gaara. In the grand scheme of things they didn’t matter, but he had an objective--the scroll--and they were an obstacle, and ultimately it was a writing convention used to show that Gaara was dangerous. Obviously it’s hard to say for sure, but while I think that while Gaara was killing sort of haphazardly, seemingly without reason or care, that he ultimately always did care and there was always some logic in his own mind for the deaths.
anyway, all this babbling is me leading back to my first point: Sasuke and Gaara share more trauma and mental health issues in common than is ever explored in the series.
i think the moment that really for me is vital in this discussion is during the Five Kage Summit/Sasuke vs the Five Kage when Gaara and Sasuke come face to face for the first time since they were twelve.
Gaara’s response is not to try to kill him or capture him, it’s to try and talk to him. It’s to try and relate to him. Because he does relate. He does empathize--obviously Gaara is missing a lot of pieces because he doesn’t know what’s happened or why Sasuke is attacking them. He doesn’t understand that Konoha and every other nation is at fault for so many wrongs in the world.
But he cares. He empathizes. He understands where Sasuke’s at, and I think in some ways he does see himself in Sasuke even though it’s been years since he, himself, reacted violently to the external world. I think he knows he could still be in that dark place, that it was but a moment from the universe that allowed him the chance to change.
Sadly, I think Gaara, as a character, had the potential to be more than just another person to buy into a system of militaristic power, but it was wasted. He listened to Naruto, and he decided that he’d follow that same path; he’d forgive an entire village and the shinobi in it who went along with his abuse, he’d continue the system--like my own personal headcanons are that Gaara is far more radical and revolutionary than he’s presented in canon. I think that he made a choice when he was very young and inexperienced and still coming to grips with the life he’d led, the trauma he’d endured, and didn’t fully know what he was getting in to.
But once he does, he works tirelessly to do right. Obviously for the first few years, especially before his death, he’s fighting against stigma and fear and is still really young--I don’t think he knows yet how to be the Kazekage fully or what radical thought really is. He has to work with the council and do his best to present as non-threatening as possible. Then after his death, I think he’s got a little more room to work with but not that much, and then the war happens a few years later. After the war, I think that’s when he really starts to get the chance to see Sasuke’s revolutionary and radical perspective on the shinobi world.
So anyway, back on track...
Gaara sheds a tear for Sasuke during that scene because they share so much in common. Gaara is a painfully empathetic character, but this is also because he does see himself in Sasuke.
I think Sasuke would remember that.
I don’t imagine that they can be friends until after the war, but I think that Sasuke does remember that moment; he doesn’t remember much of that day, running too high on more trauma and mental/emotional stress, having a breakdown, etc, but he does remember that moment. Gaara was the only one who didn’t want to kill Sasuke. He tried to reach Sasuke.
So, Sasuke doesn’t go back to Konoha--which like good--he travels.
He visits Suna.
Gaara welcomes him. He doesn’t act scared, he doesn’t act weird or skittish. He’s not extra careful around Sasuke. He greets Sasuke as though they are friends which Sasuke is sure they never were, and he invites Sasuke to stay at the Kazekage estate instead of one of the hotels in the village or even the shinobi housing compound which does have a wing for visiting foreign shinobi. Nope. Garara invites him into his home, allows him to join him and his family for dinner--it is incredibly awkward because Temari and Kankurou do not have the same perspective on Sasuke, and maybe Shikamaru is visiting and feels even MORE awkward than the other Sand sibs.
But Sasuke was welcomed. He was treated like a friend.
Sasuke is not a character I’ve spent as much time thinking about and hcing, but I do tend to think of him as closed off, guarded. a man of few words because he just doesn’t feel safe divulging information about himself--whether it’s his feelings or his past or whatever. I also imagine that, after everything he’s been through, Sasuke hates being confused and he hates second guessing peoples’ intentions.
He’s been used by so many people in his life, and I think Gaara’s kindness would read as a red flag to Sasuke instead of something genuine.
But Sasuke isn’t afraid of Gaara. So he finds Gaara in his study, late that night after dinner, when everyone else is asleep, and he asks outright, “What do you want?”
Gaara is confused as fuck. “What do you mean?”
“What do you want from me?”
Gaara probably gets that little crease between where his eyebrows should be. “I don’t understand.”
“Why are you being so nice? I used to be a criminal.”
Finally he understands. But Gaara isn’t exactly good with explaining his own emotions either, so it’s probably a difficult discussion. “You were a victim of your village, as much as I was once a victim of mine. I have no reason to be cruel or unkind, because I understand you, Uchiha Sasuke.”
Sasuke doesn’t really know Gaara, so he doesn’t know if he can trust Gaara, but the words definitely strike a chord in him. Someone else understands him. Someone else empathizes with him. It’s enough.
Sasuke leaves the next day for other lands.
But whenever he’s near Suna, he stops by for a visit.
Gaara always welcomes him. He’s always happy to see him in his own way. They talk sometimes about shinobi life in a hidden village, about Naruto’s progress on becoming Hokage (both of them feel like he’s got a lot of work to do), on political matters that Gaara should definitely not be talking to Sasuke about but that’s fine Sasuke won’t tell anyone. Sasuke shares some of his ideas, Gaara likes some of them. Sasuke’s perspective helps Gaara to acknowledge his own past and the horrors he endured thanks to his father and his village. He accepts that he doesn’t need to forgive the wrongs done to him. In turn, Sasuke finds that kindness can be as revolutionary as anger. He’s not as afraid to be vulnerable.
Gaara’s the first person to know how Sasuke feels about Naruto.
Gaara doesn’t really know much about romance, but he’s seen his villagers, his sister and Shikamaru, he’s even seen Kankurou once or twice smitten with a local girl but he was too afraid of commitment to pursue. He encourages Sasuke.
“Naruto has fought for you for a long time,” he says. “From what I know of him, of his determination to bring you home... I would say he loves you.”
Sasuke doesn’t tell Naruto that he and Gaara are friends. He still doesn’t really get it sometimes, he doesn’t always trust it especially when he hasn’t seen Gaara for a long time. But he always finds a reason to stop by Suna, he always finds time to stay at the Kazekage estate at least for a day to catch up with Gaara.
I imagine they have a very quiet, soft sort of friendship. One built on mutual understanding and empathy, compassion and kindness, and unrelenting honesty. I imagine they grow close over the years of infrequent visits and political discussions and sometimes heavier discussions like their past traumas.
