Today we are Honored to welcome our newest Partner Organization: Wheelchairs for Warriors. Wheelchairs for Warriors provides custom wheelchairs to injured veterans and first responders that are engineered to each recipient's individual needs and capabilities, allowing for mobility and independence at the highest level possible. Before Wheelchairs for Warriors came along, many of our recipients were distraught depressed and feeling isolated. Many were unable to get around their own homes, maneuver the great outdoors, go to the parks or beaches with their wives and families, or play an adaptive sport. The burden was also shared by their caretakers having to assist them with their heavy, bulky, inadequate wheelchairs. On Saturday September 30, 2012 the Veteran Stone Memorial Monument was dedicated to service members from Napa County killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is located at the Veterans Memorial Park in Napa California. The monument, named “Fallen But Not Forgotten,” was unveiled Saturday at the corner of Third and Main streets, thanks to the efforts of Alyssa DeBenedetti, a 2012 Napa High School graduate who proposed the monument and spearheaded the project. For months, DeBenedetti contacted veterans’ organizations, city officials and others and raised about $13,000 to make the 4-foot-tall bronze sculpture a reality. It features boots and a rifle with a bayonet topped by a helmet, symbolizing a dead soldier. At its base are six plaques with the names of the fallen service members. At the dedication, DeBenedetti, and a Napa Valley College student, thanked the various groups who supported her efforts, including relatives of the fallen service members and her own family. “It was truly a community effort,” she said. “Meeting with the families opened my eyes to the great sense of loss that they are still experiencing,” DeBenedetti added. “I’d like to thank the families for opening their lives and sharing memories and stories and pictures with me. Operation Hero was started to continue the legacy of 1SG Tracy Stapley, who died July 3, 2013 in Qatar on his second deployment. Always known to help others whether it was needed or not. A man who would want all of his brothers and sisters in arms to be honored alongside him. We give back to Gold Star Families, educate service members and their families about the importance of Preparing for the Unexpected. Honor Utah’s Fallen Service Members with over 300 combat boots on display. Some boots have been decorated by the families to tell the story of their loved ones. These men and women died while in uniform serving our country. We are forever grateful for them and their families. Tehama County's Military Family Support Group dedicated this Gulf War Era Monument in Red Bluff @ 10 AM on Monday November 10th 2013. It's a tribute to local men and women who've fought in the Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, active military, and the fallen. On its dedication day the monument contained the names of 306 Tehama County veterans who have risked their lives for freedom. The Tehama County Military Family Support Group said they began work on this monument in 2006 and wanted to honor those who continue the fight. "We are very proud of what our young people have been able to do in the Gulf War Era and war on terrorism and we wanted to honor them in some way that was lasting," said Tehama County Military Family Support Group President, Bob Chaney. The group said they will continue to add more names to the monument as long as the Afghan war continues. Operation Transition Outside the Wire's mission is to systematically and purposefully transition service men and women from their active duty "inside the wire" mindset to civilian life. We help them overcome challenges acclimating to day-to-day life in a proactive manner. We receive Veterans on our working ranch (and their spouse and children if desired) just as they return from combat and instantly start working on their service connects. From day one and throughout their 6-month stay on the ranch, they are provided housing, employment, transitional support services, food, transportation, community, etc. to set them up for success with their civilian life. By partnering with corporations, private donors and other non-profits who believe in and support our mission, we strive to prevent as many of the 22 veteran suicides that occur every day as we can. Today Project Roll call along with Flags of Honor Escorts and the “Role Call Flag” visit the West Pierce Fire and Rescue Station 31 – 911 Memorial in University Place WA. In 2011, West Pierce was awarded a piece of steel from the World Trade Center. A committee was formed with a broad cross-section of West Pierce employees, local architects, designers, artists and contractors to design and build the Reflection Park in order to properly display this artifact. No tax money was spent creating this park and in-kind donations were crucial. The employees of West Pierce and countless volunteers played a key role, volunteering their personal time and talents toward the project's completion. On Sept. 11, 2012, the park was dedicated and opened for the public to visit and enjoy. Since then, West Pierce has added a Firefighter Line of Duty Death memorial stone. The statue will highlight the park's completion. On September 11th, 2013 the Memeorial was expanded as a bronzed firefighter statue was unveiled and dedicated. It is important that we never forget the attacks on our People, our Country and our Freedoms that day. Today we would like to welcome our newest Partner Organization, American Gold Star Mothers Inc. The American Gold Star Mothers Inc. Mission Statement: Finding strength in the fellowship of other Gold Star Mothers who strive to keep the memory of our sons and daughters alive by working to help veterans, those currently serving in the military, their families, and our communities. In 1917 the United States entered World War I and 23-year-old George Vaughn Seibold volunteered. His mother, Grace Darling Seibold, began visiting injured servicemen in hospitals and waiting for letters from George. The letters stopped but Grace continued to visit hospitalized veterans hoping to find her son. On 11 October 1918, the family’s worst fears were confirmed, George was gone. Grace realized that self-contained grief is self-destructive, so she continued to visit returning veterans and began reaching out to other mothers who had lost a child in military service. On 4 June 1928, twenty-five mothers met in Washington D.C. to establish the national organization, American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. On 12 June 1984, the Ninety-eighth Congress of The United States granted the organization a Federal Charter. The organization is named after the Gold Star banner hung in the windows of the families of Fallen Heroes. Together we can all do more! By partnering with us here at Project Roll Call we strive to increase Organizational Visibility with the overall goal of making it easier for our Veterans, Active Duty and Gold Star Families find the resources that they are in need of.... Working together, we can all achieve more! NHHR activities include an annual Honor Run to remember all Native American veterans who were “Killed in Action” since Lori Piestewa’s death in 2003, and the “Gold Star” families that were left behind after the sacrifice of these soldiers. American Gold Star families are immediate relatives of members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have been killed in combat or in support of certain military activities. The organization has also started recognizing and supporting “Blue Star” families in the community. American Blue Star families are those that have sons or daughters in active service in the U.S. Armed Forces and was originally formed during World War II. NHHR also offers motorcycle escorts for funeral services or welcome home events for returning military service personnel, participates in community service projects to assist veterans with home improvement or remodeling projects to better suit physical or mental challenges resulting from their military service, and outreach events to build awareness regarding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and other difficulties faced by returning veterans or the families they leave behind. Please join Project Roll Call and the Roll Call Flag as we the Veterans Memorial Park in Cedar Park Texas! The Veterans Memorial Park monument was designed by artist Gregory Beck of Fort Worth and has some special references to Texas. The base panel honoring the Navy depicts the George H.W. Bush Aircraft Carrier, and the panel for the Air Force shows a B-1 Bomber stationed at Dyes Air Force Base in Abilene. A towering, seven-foot tall bronze soldier, clothed in Army dress blues and holding an M-16 rifle stands guard. The soldier is the likeness of U.S. Army Specialist First Class Matthew Morris of Cedar Park, who was killed on April 6, 2008 by an improvised explosive device in Balad, Iraq while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. SPC Morris was awarded posthumously the rank of Sergeant along with the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Each base panel features laser art that honors a different branch of the U.S. Military: the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Merchant Marines, and Coast Guard. The monument was unveiled on November 12, 2011. The Park also includes a Gold Star Families Memorial Monument. The Monument provides a place of permanence for Gold Star Families and demonstrates that their community cares for them and appreciates their sacrifice, while also honoring the ultimate sacrifice paid by their Loved Ones. It is intended to educate the general public about Gold Star Families’ enduring sacrifices and the ultimate sacrifice made by their Loved Ones.
