As a joke I told my parents I wanted lots of pie for my birthday weekend, so we had onion tart and detroit-style deep dish (the carrot cake did not survive long enough to be photographed). We also had “ham roses” which sounds like a slang term for a butt (puff pastry rolled up with jam, ham, and gruyere). And of course no visit home would be complete without Longhorn the Wonder Dog glaring balefully.
