I was watching some old videos of the Onyanko Club, and I noticed that the girls did very simple dances, sang with light voices and wore flat shoes. I was sitting there thinking about how Morning Musume would dance the shit out of those routines in heels while belting from their chests, lol. Being an idol is the same as it was in the past , but yet so very different at the same time.

Jiro did not need to commit this hard to indulging in Kido's interests just to maintain good relations, so I'm gonna call him an unironic Onyanko Club enjoyer

2. were ur family and friends supportive of ur chosen career path ?
kaori smiles. “yes they were, actually !” she answers. “my mom used to be an idol in the eighties and was actually in onyanko club, so even though it didn’t really work out for her, she always said that she was never going to stop me if i did decide to go into the idol industry. i grew up saying that i was going to achieve my mom’s dreams for her, and even though i was roller skating before this, that did end up happening ! and i’m glad it did, since my mom did everything for me when she and my dad were divorced. and speaking of my dad, both he and my mom came to my first concert ! and, yes, i did cry like a baby.”
kaori giggles. “even with that, though, i kind of just had a natural talent for music. i did choir and theater when i was younger !”
“and my friends were so excited !” she continues. “i actually debuted while we were all still in high school together, so when my debut single came out, we all watched it together. that’s one of the fondest memories i have from high school, and i really do love my friends so much. i’m glad we’re all still in touch.”
3. what’s ur best and worst memory from ur trainee days ?
“i mean, i never really trained seriously, but i was on produce 48 and produce camp !” kaori says. “the best part about being on both shows was all the friends i made and the experience i gained ! i’m still in touch with chaeyeon, sakura, chaewon, and some of the other japanese trainees that were on produce 48, so that’s cool ! i’m also still close with curley, feifei, hami, and lana, too !”
“plus !” she added, before she could forget. “a lot of the japanese trainees on produce 48 called me onee-chan, which made me feel so good about myself.”
the girl laughed, before moving on to the second part of the question. “as for more negative experiences …” kaori trailed off. “both shows were exhausting to be on, especially with all the excessive training, media scrutiny, and competitiveness that i wasn’t used to. and here’s the thing, i didn’t even make it anyways !” she buried her face into her hands for a brief second, laughing as if she was embarrassed. “i wouldn’t call it pointless, though, because even if i didn’t debut, i still gained a lot regardless.”
thank u for the ask ! ♡
