Falling for Scotty was instinctive, as effortless as an inhale — your feelings for her etched into your bones. And with those etchings traveled a wanting ache that created a home within your marrow, tunneling deep, and hollowing you out until the sensation was all you knew.
You welcomed it though, this incessant throb, for it was the only proof of your capability to love in this capacity: deeply, entirely, unequivocally. It wasn't easy, breathing without knowing her touch, but options outside of this did not exist for you, so you were forced to yearn from a distance, as you did now.
Your hurt lived at its peak at this moment, tugging on your sore heartstrings as you watched her cut your grass with a sigh brined in want. Scotty bathed beneath the drizzle of her sweat before you, dark skin glistening under each droplet while the sun accentuated her shine.
Those fingers, they belonged to a worker. Their tight squeeze on the lawn mower left you breathless as you envisioned their tips pressing deep into your throat, departing your flesh only after the creation of pretty bruises.
When the back of her hand met her damp forehead, you gasped in anticipation, a sharp gust of air nicking your throat on its way down. You waited, gnawing on your lip anxiously, gloved hands clamping down on the soapy plate in your hold — she was going to do it soon.
You were practically drooling, eyes protruding as you scanned her perspiring body hungrily. And then… there it was. Scotty's halt stopped your heart, and the plate you previously held plunged directly into a sudsy bath.
She removed her digits from the lawnmower, and her hand traveled down. Down to the hem of her soaked tank top, and she hoisted it up. Up to her face for assistance in drying her sweat beads. The material rose just enough for you to spot the edge of her equally damp sports bra clinging to her sticky skin, and she blessed your vision with those perfect flexing abs of hers.
A singular line of sweat rolled its way down the center of her toned stomach and your entranced irises stalked it, following the trickle’s descent to the waistband of her shorts until the droplet was absorbed by the material. “Fuck…”
You bit your lip with a smirk, squeezing your thighs together. Her fists clenched the handle again, and she fell back into her practiced pushing, eyebrows knitting against the slight resistance. If the window were open, her gravelly grunts would bless your eardrums with their strain, and your mind would construct the picture of her floating above you, making those same tired sounds as she rocked–
“Why do you just have the tap running?” That stupid voice. Your brother's voice. It snuck up on you, and it restarted your still heart, serving as nothing more than an aggravating prompt as to why Scotty wasn't yours.
You rolled your eyes, tightening your grip on that restraint trying desperately to escape your claws. “Maybe don't worry about what I’m doing.”
“When I pay the water bill, I make it my business to know how it's being used. Or in this case, how it's being wasted.”
Your groan was unavoidable, it always was when your brother chose to invade your bubble. Reluctantly, you peeled longing eyes away from Scotty, returning your focus to the dishes floating in the sink with a grumble. “You're so fucking lame.”
“Yeah, I'm lame.” You tossed a glance back at him, noting the way he buried his huge block head inside the fridge, and you took this as an opportunity to ogle your sweat-drenched love once more. You pushed onto your toes, hopelessly trailing Scotty's strides in the grass, clinging to the grace in which she moved as your stomach welcomed that familiar tightness.
The last dish was on the rack now, and you switched off the streams just as your brother emerged from the fridge with two chilled water bottles. He pushed past you, bumping your shoulder on purpose as he trotted to the back door, and soon the sounds of a growling mower filled the house. “Yo! Scotts, take a break, yeah?”
You watched her in the window again, her eyes finding yours through the glass. A fire flickered alive inside your body when she glanced up at you, and Scotty let a small smile crack across those lips you’d felt only in dreams. Your inhale surfaced low in volume, but its choice to harmonize with your sprinting heart’s prayer for reprieve deafened you still.
She was on the patio now, chatting mindlessly with your brother, and slowly, you allowed the prattle of her distant voice to draw you in, engraved bones piloting each of your strides to the living room as your tired heart complied.
“So, you coming by next Saturday?” You planted yourself by the couch, out of your brother’s view, but squarely in Scotty's. Bare thighs bewitched her, and automatically, those frantic eyes of hers swept the expanse of them, widening the longer she scanned them over in your shorts. Scotty let her inspecting linger, permitting her shameless gaze to climb your uncovered stomach, the poke of your boobs beneath your bralette, and finally, she let her eyes latch onto your expecting brown ones.
You blushed under her heated watch, and she did the same beneath yours. She wrestled with a demanding smirk and lost, but her attempt to conceal it remained adorable. Your Scotty was a story, seared into your skull, recitable on command, and if she knew your skill when reading her, she'd see her endeavor as what it was; one of no use.
Your brother tapped her shoulder, pulling her attention from you to him just after he peered back at you with a head shake. “Scotts, did you hear me?”
“Sorry, what?” She blinked, floundering in the shame of being caught, and you giggled from where you stood. You resided in her head, as she lived in yours.
This notion stirred a strength inside you, a sense of supremacy awakened only when you were reminded you weren't alone in your fancy, and it subsided some of that ache for a brief while.
“I said, are you coming by next Saturday? Mum’s out of town so I'm having people over, real lowkey. You gotta come mate, it's always so hard to get you out of the house.”
Thieving were your brother’s words, robbing you of Scotty's attention and you huffed in annoyance. Basking below her inspection filled your desperate body with a warmth; her stare was the kind to sizzle your skin, and you loathed the absence of the feeling.
Her head craned backward as she pushed the neck of her sweating water bottle to her awaiting lips, throat bobbing with each eager swallow of the cool liquid. You watched small streams spill from her lips, and roll down her neck, tangling with her existing speckles of perspiration. She was messy with each gulp, and a wet mouth suited her. “Uh, I’m not sure.”
Fuck, that voice again, you moaned at its vibration, and the not-so-subtle whimper perked both sets of ears on the patio. Your brother’s scrutiny heated your already burning skin, but you ignored its blaze, just as you disregarded your body’s demand that you run. You couldn't, you needed to witness the way her lips quirked ever so slightly when she heard the sound, your sound.
“Why are we even best friends, Scotts? I always gotta force you to come out.” Your brother whined, making her chuckle. God that laugh of hers; timid; deliberate, and it tugged you forward into its infectious reverb. Scotty owned you in this way, her laugh owned you, her nervous smile as you inched closer. Sore muscles propelled you toward her, and they were met with zero resistance — proximity to Scotty held all the power to dull your ache.
Fingers circled the doorknob as you hooked your chin around the open door, and you smiled up at the shy girl before you. “I’ll be here on Saturday Viv, you'll come to see me, right?”
“Uh…” Rendering her speechless, an action that bustled your pride. Her anxious fidget was one of the many things you loved about her, that, and the way she struggled pitifully when attempting to hide just how flustered your existence made her.
Your brother groaned, “You’ll be in your room. I don't want you anywhere near my friends.”
“Your friends are all a bunch of dickheads, just like you,” You smirked, and Scotty tripped into it against her will, steadying herself bashfully at the last second. “Well, except for you, Viv. You couldn't be a dickhead if you tried.”
“She's not fucking interested. And you look desperate.”
You stepped onto the patio then, smacking his head, and he winced dramatically. A sweet sound, though it wasn't comparable to the one you sought; Scotty’s laugh. When she offered it up it melted your mind; you’d be a puddle soon, legs and body dissolving before those swirling irises you loved dearly. “So glad the asshole gene ended with you.”
Scotty giggled again, waking the butterflies batting violently in your depths. “I’ll see you Saturday, Viv?”
“S-See you S-Saturday.”
•••
The ends of your wild braids veiled your bare chest, fingers dancing slowly down to where you needed them most as you tugged your nipple roughly. When those spit-soaked lips of yours separated, one name existed on your tongue, and it clamored from your pits the second shaking digits connected with your sensitive clit. “Scotty…”
A forever-clogged head generated only conjurings of her, your fantasies being the one place you were allowed to have her, and you never shied from indulging. Slow strokes teased that feeling forward, and your pedicured toes curled the higher her face in your mind's eye made you soar. Her name was enclosed in each exhale, intricately wrapped in your lusty desires with their inevitable unraveling being enough to tip you over.
“Oh, Scotty…” You let the sound of your slickness entrance you, brain traveling to her reaction if she were here to see you, feel you, taste–
A series of knocks on your bedroom door ripped you from deep within your Scotty-riddled thoughts, and you groaned, rolling over in your pillow to muffle an irritated scream. “Fuck off!”
“Scotty’s coming over to fix the drip in the bathroom sink. Let her in, and don't be a fucking weirdo, I'm going out.”
Your brother’s words possessed the strength to spring your body upright in your sheets, and you grinned, welcoming that throb you were on a mission to subdue just seconds ago, that throb that breathed and intensified from the mere mention of her name.
You tugged your T-shirt back on, slid your underwear up, and sighed at the feel of your slick gluing the thin material to your folds.
Rarely did the opportunity of being alone with Scotty arise, she was your brother’s friend, and she ventured around only to hang out with him, emphasizing your position in her life. Scotty liked you, a fact clear as day, but the restraint housed within her body remained one that forever combated your own, and it was for this reason that you forced yourself to become comfortable with the scope of separation between you both. But, she was on her way over, and it’d just be the two of you now.
Possibility floated in the atmosphere as you mulled this thought over, and your excitement constricted your chest, tightening those exhausted little heartstrings of yours.
An unsteady step abetted your climb from your bed and you exhaled once on your feet; your climax evaded your grasp, but the prospect of spending time with your forbidden love held the power to wobble you still.
The shirt draping your frame left nothing up to the imagination, exposing your curves, the nudge of your sore nipples, and your damp panty-clad cunt remained visible as you studied yourself in the mirror. Your attire screamed “She was just in the middle of getting off,” and you contemplated changing into something more… appropriate.
But the resounding clang of the doorbell blared throughout the house, jarring you, and you toppled, your half-naked body tripping over scattered shoes and dirty laundry begging to be washed on the floor. It rang again, and you stumbled back on your feet, flying out your bedroom door and down the steps at the speed of lightning. There was something to be said about the pathetic nature in which you staggered to the front door. You were a fawn, learning to stable oneself for the first time, lacking grace, lacking finesse as you launched yourself forward for the doorknob.
Did you care? Certainly not, not with Scotty awaiting your greeting on the other side of the barrier keeping you two apart.
Breathless as you were, you opened the door just as her finger poked the button again, and the pair of you giggled shyly, noting the other's blush. You could never tire of her laugh, and its coyness. It coaxed her blinding smile into the open, and once it beamed out, clouding it became a difficult task for Scotty.
“H-Hey Viv…” You huffed, scanning her appearance with a gulp.
Her blushing never faltered, mouth gaping before she decided to suck in her bottom lip at the sight of you in just a shirt. She dipped her head, sheepish in her attempt to shelter her nerves, but her sweet stutter betrayed her the moment she opened that pretty mouth, “Um, uh, h-hi. I c-came for the um, the…”
“The sink.” You finished for her, and she nodded with a small chuckle.
“Uh, yeah. The sink.” You stepped aside and Scotty trudged into the house, toolbox locked in those strong fingers as she wiped her work boots on the mat rather awkwardly. She watched you all the while, eyes trained on your thighs as you smirked up at her, absorbing the rays of her immersion. Scotty attempted subtlety when your brother was around, but she took advantage of his absence now as she ogled your tight nipples poking up in your shirt.
You ran your fingers through your braids, shaking them slightly to make your tits jump before her eyes, and when she exhaled wearily, you allowed your throat to vacuum her air, breathing in its warmth with a quiet moan.
And you smiled then, feeling that comfortable throb weaken just from the nearness of your bodies.
Scotty was right there, right in front of you, and it would be nothing to reach out and touch. God, you wanted to reach out and touch, but just as you leaned in a little, she jerked, turning frantically and heading to the stairs. “It shouldn't um, take me too long. It's just a drip r-right?”
“J-Just a drip…” Though, the leaking at your core exceeded that.
You climbed the stairs behind her, pulling on the hem of your top anxiously with each step as you followed her knowing strides to your bathroom. Scotty's shoulders flexed under her black and yellow patterned shirt, and your treacherous mind concocted images of crimson claws dragging along her back, feeling those blades tighten and loosen with steady thrusts, if you were blessed with the opportunity to lay beneath her as she had her way with you, that was.
“Can you um, I have to look under the sink. Just uh, tell me if the drip is still going when I ask, yeah?” She flicked on the light, placing her toolbox down on the mat and you nodded slowly. There laid command in her request — innocent in her mind — but far from in yours.
You hoisted yourself onto the counter, naked thighs spilling out from under your T-shirt. Its lack of length once again became her fixation, and you watched the flash of realization storm Scotty's electric eyes; she would have to kneel before you to get under the sink. You smirked, concluding this at the same time she did, and slowly, she stooped in hesitation, sinking to the floor to open the cabinet. Her eyes refused to leave your seductive ones, and a devious plan slithered its way into your mind like a serpent.
Once Scotty was on her knees, she wavered, chewing her lip nervously, still watching you, and you allowed your parting thighs to rocket her heart.
There was a squish, because you were fucking drenched, and Scotty's eyes followed the sound her ears alerted her of, landing right on your damp core. She whimpered in the back of her throat, permitting the sight to captivate her fully, and she frowned. She found your eyes again, pleading wordlessly for you to shut your legs, to allow her to do what she came to, but you were not in the business of being gracious. You wanted her too much — the beating in your chest and the beating at your core driving your choice.
“J-Just, uh, let me know about the drip.” She pointed weakly to the faucet, capturing one last glance at your red panties before vanishing under the sink.
She fumbled with the valves, “Did it stop?”
“Nope.” Your legs were swinging, blood rushing at the sight of her exposed middle, her stomach contracting as she worked.
“Now? Is it still leaking?” You glanced at the faucet, clapping your hands when you noticed the drip had disappeared, only to realize the one at your center was gaining stream.
You giggled, “Something's leaking.”
Scotty sighed, seemingly frustrated and you pouted, “But is the faucet still leaking? That's what I’m asking.”
“No.”
She muttered something, but it went unheard because her abs were out of hiding fully now, and you were a drooling mess at the image of her splayed on your bathroom floor. “How long have we known each other, Viv?”
Scotty hummed, unmoving under your cabinet. Something told you she remained under there on purpose. “All our lives.”
“And would you believe me if I said I've had a crush on you this entire time?” Your question startled you, and you blinked at your sudden spurt of confidence, gripping the countertop firmly to avoid fainting.
There was a thud, and a small groan, one that shouldn't have excited you because it was obvious the sound derived from pain, but any sort of moan evading Scotty's lips would push thrill through your body. “No.”
She stood, rubbing the side of her forehead with that same groan again, and you tilted your head. “You wouldn't believe that I have a crush on you?”
Her eyes brimmed with a speckle akin to want — hope; Scotty hoped sincerity guided your words. They dazzled, irises swimming in a chocolate sea as you studied her reluctance. Her pretty lips hung downward as you let your full ones fall also, the sight fracturing your heart just a little, her resistance in belief. “You wouldn't believe me, Viv?”
“The drip is on the hot water side. I n-need you to get down so I can take the f-faucet apart.”
Words that broke your heart entirely, because she was shaking, and she refused to answer your question. “I do, have a crush on you, Vivienne.”
A crush. An insignificant word, and a diluted confession, you thought. Describing what you felt for Scotty as a crush seemed so trivial. You loved her, you were in love with her, and you wanted her to love you. But if your admission of a crush unnerved her this much, you were terrified to find out what a declaration of love would do to the poor girl.
“Uh, c-can you let me get to the faucet? Please?”
Earnesty eluded Scotty now, the averting of your spiky stare told you that. She fought it, her desire to slip between your thighs and hold you close, but it would ultimately be a battle lost. “Scotts…”
“Please.”
You whimpered, “Scotty, look at me?”
Brown eyes met your wishing ones and she softened immediately, her sweaty forehead falling to yours as she snaked her arms around your waist. God, you could break. You did break, you broke the moment she did. “I-I… you…”
Her tears were light and steady, and they scorched, flowing and mixing with your own as you offered up a small whine. You cupped her wet face, and Scotty nuzzled her cheek into your delicate palm with a sigh, confirming the thing you always assumed — she was a beauty starved for touch. And now, amending this was to be your job as you gazed into her welling eyes.
It was so easy, to drown in every unspoken emotion filtering out the both of you through your sobs, and if she continued to peer at you through damp lashes, you just might let yourself sink.
Salty tears rushed your tastebuds, forcing you to swallow each drizzle as you searched for the right thing to say to calm your love. “Scotty…”
“Would y-you b-believe m-me if I said I had a c-crush on you, too?” She questioned with a sniffle, heated fingers gripping yours, and reluctantly, you let her peel your hands from her face. Your waist felt bare without her digits pressing into it, and your shattered heart knew not how to take the loss.
You laughed lightly, “Yeah?”
Scotty let the corner of her mouth quirk, and she took in your murky irises. “I shouldn't, but I do.”
“Would you like to kiss me, Scotty?”
She shut her eyes with a desperate groan, squeezing your digits so tight, your fingertips ran cold. “God… very much.”
You caressed her face intently, eyes boring into her untamed ones as you watched her brows knit in anticipation. And then you were pulling her in, feeling her hot mouth moving against your own. Your world stilled, and the remaining shards of your broken heart plummeted, leaving those butterflies of yours as the only things inside of you capable of sustaining life.
Your ache, your beautiful, throbbing, lifelong ache dwindled for a moment as Scotty's mouth meshed with yours. She kissed you fiercely, fingers grazing your throat, breathing existence back into your being, and it was then that you moaned for her.
Scotty lost it, your sound putting her on the prowl. Her incisors punctured your bottom lip and you hissed from the euphoric pain, wrapping your legs around her slim waist, fingers finding their way under her shirt with haste. When you grazed the dips of those abs you gawked on a daily, your moan bloomed louder, and Scotty pulled away.
“God. That s-sound, oh my god, s-so pretty. Please.”
You nodded, “Kiss me again.”
But Scotty shook her head, puzzling you, and when her teary eyes met yours, your ache returned — at full force — crushing every bone in your body. “We can't.”
“W-We just d-did.”
She kissed your hands, making you shudder, and she frowned. “Your brother…”
“Isn't here. It's just us, you and me Scotts. Want you to kiss me again, want you to touch me, please. Please, Scotty.”
Scotty pressed her back into the wall in front of you, eyes glazed over as you watched her breathing pick up. She once again battled with her want for you, and the only thing barring her triumph, was your stupid fucking brother.
You rolled your eyes, refusing to let it end like this, not after finally tasting her tongue outside of your imagination. “Scotty. Touch me.”
“Fuck… you can't say things like that,” She winced, as if your words inflicted pain. “Makes my mind go places it shouldn't.”
You raised your brow at this, “Where does your mind go when I give you permission to touch me?”
She didn't answer, so you reached out for her, spreading your legs wider the closer she inched, and she stared at your wet panties, pupils dilating as she whimpered. “I c-can't. I'm not supposed t-to. You're off limits t-to me.”
“But you want to, don't you? You wanna feel me, Scotty?”
She nodded, sucking in a sharp breath as she allowed you to press her palm flat against your heat. “Feel me, Scotty.”
You shoved your panties to the side, reveling in the effort it took to unstick the cloth from your pussy, and Scotty gasped.
A singular tear rolled down her cheek when presented with the cunt that wept for her touch, your clit calling her name with each jump. She stared into your wanting eyes, begging for permission and you nodded. Scotty pressed into your clit, whining softly along with your mewls, and you nestled your face into her chest to muffle them, entirely consumed by the ecstasy flooding your senses.
Scotty massaged nurturing circles into your bud, her wounded moans ringing in your ear while she twitched, absorbing the sound of your slick pussy. You hadn't even noticed you were crying again until you opened your mouth to moan, and warm droplets filled it.
You leaked onto the bathroom counter, wetness spilling with each of her delicate rubs. It wasn't long before you were quaking, thighs levitating in sync with your racing heart as you pushed your back into the mirror.
“You're s-so, fuck, I-I wanna… Can I put my f-fingers inside you? Wanna feel all of you.” You nodded, and Scotty wasted no time slipping two coated digits into your hole. God, it was way more than you saw yourself able to handle. The pleasure, the emotions; your body couldn't bear it.
Hard nipples rubbed against your shirt as you moaned for her, and she nodded toward the protrusion. “Touch them for me?”
This Scotty, and her commanding bass were a foreign pair to you. Though phrased as a question, her request was the furthest thing from, and you complied immediately, pulling your perky nipples above the material as your eyes fanned down to where Scotty worked you. “Fuck, Scotty, just like that…”
“Lift your shirt, I-I wanna s-see them please.”
The hem of your shirt came up as you hummed faintly, and your boobs were out, fingers latching on to tweak your tender nubs once more. The sound of her fucking your pussy with her fingers had you reeling, every tendon in your body tightening as they prepared to snap. You bucked into each of her skilled thrusts, whimper after whimper dropping from your parted lips as she stretched your tight cunt.
Scotty was inside of you, you were riding her worker digits as she grunted from how your walls drank her in. Fuck, was this real life? “You're so wet, god I can't take this.”
“Only f-for you, please, pleeease!” You craned your neck, connected your mouth with your nipple, swirling your tongue around its firmness, never once breaking eye contact with her and she shivered at your lewd act.
“You drive me crazy, I just, fuck… You're so beautiful.” Scotty confessed, flicking your clit with ferocity, and you cried out.
“I'm, I'm gonna come! Please, faster Scotty, I wanna come for you! Please!” You sprawled for her as you sobbed her name, showing off your flexibility and Scotty cursed under her breath. You were certain her knees would give out soon with their continued buckling as she worked your pussy; she looked closer to collapse than you.
Her pace increased, outstretching her free hand to grip your floating thigh, and she pressed a kiss to your ankle. “Can I touch them?”
You were so out of it, but you nodded, and Scotty’s palm trailed your lurching stomach on its way up to your sensitive tits. She cupped the right one, basking in its warmth as your messy pussy sucked in her knuckles, tips brushing your special spot.
“Fuck! Right there! Oh my god! Right fucking there!” You jerked, fisting her shirt to yank her in for a sloppy kiss as the showers of your climax rained down on you. You were denied the feeling earlier, but you chose to believe this was because fate wanted Scotty to bring about your bliss. It was intense as hell, a willful pour that turned your vision white, and your moan was long and broken, eyes spilling endlessly. Scotty kissed your tears away, pumping you slower now, the ghost of her warm breath doing what it could to soothe you.
“You're so pretty when you come.”
A tired little groan crept out of you; you were attempting to thank her, but those numbing lips of hers were more powerful than you'd realized as she used them to whisper into your charged skin. “Shh. It's okay. You're okay.”
She remained inside of you, absorbing your clench as she whined from the suction, that was until footsteps approached the door. “Scotts, you in there?”
Scotty plucked her fingers from your seeping cunt, leaving you empty as panic seized her. You couldn't move, so you chose to watch her frantic dance through slanted eyes while you heaved, orgasm sitting still on your chest, weighing you down. She was genuinely terrified: scrambling to get her tools, muttering under her breath, and you wanted to calm her, but you couldn't move.
“I'm sorry.” Scotty pecked your forehead, forbidding her lips’ linger, and then she slipped out the door before your brother got a chance to reach for the handle, abandoning your spent figure in a pool of your release on the counter.
•••
Rejection was not fatal, and chanting this motto should drill belief into your brain. Should. But reliance on these words provided no comfort, or aid. Instead, they epitomized the only sentiment your snapping mind seemed able to hold fast to: Scotty did not want you.
She left you behind on the drenched bathroom counter, discarded as a thing she played with before deciding you no longer were of use to her. Admitting her behavior had been cruel was not a thing you saw yourself able to do though, because you knew your Scotty, and within her dwelled not an ounce of cruelty. Inflicting pain, breaking your heart in the way she did that day was not, should not, have been in her nature.
But you experienced it, barely survived her transgression, so what were you supposed to believe? Certainly not the mantra about rejection’s inability to fatally scar, because here you lay, permeating in the blood drawn from the wounds of Scotty's misdeed, slipping out of your mind, and away from yourself with time.
Once, you had a whole heart, it took up space, its beating gave you life, breeding your ability to love, because you loved Scotty. But now, similarly to your excavated bones, there lived a hollowness in your chest. A hollowness operating as a depressing reminder that your motionless heart existed in tatters, occupying the deepest depths of your knotted stomach.
Maybe you were being dramatic, though you’d tried being hopeful, thinking she would come round the next day, desperate to apologize, desperate to hold you and call you hers. But Scotty never showed, and all sense of promise had departed by the end of the week, amidst the lonely nights spent crying yourself to sleep.
Something you were attempting to do now as you tangled your aching body in your many blankets. A satin pillow covered your face, damp with tears as you groaned aloud, irritated by the music and laughter floating up from downstairs.
Your stupid fucking brother and his stupid fucking friends. Being in distress the entire week helped you forget about the party he was throwing tonight, but you couldn't ignore it now, and the sound of their happiness made your eye twitch. How dare that drove of losers enjoy life, when you sat teetering on the brink of death? It wasn't fair, and you wanted to scream it in their faces, but another wave of sobs flooded your cheeks, and you hugged your teddy bear tighter, mind racing to her.
“Scotts! You made it mate! Didn't think you'd be coming round after you've been MIA all week. You alright?”
You were up on your feet at the mention of her presence, drying your tears and booking it down the stairs as you gave in to your body's coercion, not a damn given about your somber appearance.
There was a singular mission: Lay eyes on her. You loitered in the kitchen, aiming to appear inconspicuous as you scanned the group with impatient eyes. After minutes of not spotting her head floating in the sizable crowd, you poured a drink, stuffing the bottle under your hoodie once you were certain there were no witnesses. You shook your head at the sea of people, so much for “real lowkey,” you thought.
“Pretty sure um, your brother wouldn't be too happy if he knew you were stealing his booze.” Fuck… that voice, its tentative quiver, her endearing tone doing everything in its power to bring your skin to life.
You spun, meeting her meek gaze, the liquid sloshing in the red solo cup you strangled long forgotten as you chose to drink her in instead. Of course she looked good, because apparently being unkind to your body was now a thing she practiced. Fuck…“Luckily I don't give a damn about what makes him happy then huh?”
Scotty smiled, providing competition for the sun, and it was then that you felt it, the sharp shards of your broken organ piecing itself back together inside your sternum. Because as much as she hurt you, you loved her still, with all of the splinters composing your barely beating heart.
“You alright?”
You hummed, feigning a small smile of your own, “Yeah.”
She shook her head, unconvinced, and she stepped in closer, reaching out for you as you did for her that day in the bathroom. “Can we um, I want–”
Protectively, your body recoiled against your will, jarring Scotty and jarring yourself with the abrupt movement. This defense was your mind’s doing; your heart was barely whole again, and your brain chose to reject Scotty in hopes of keeping it so. “I–”
“Christ, leave Scotty alone. She's not interested in you like that, learn when to take a hint,” Your brother left no room for a response before he dragged Scotty off. “Sorry about her man, little sisters are the worst.”
Scotty huffed a dry laugh, peering back at you in the kitchen, pleading with her eyes, but it was a stare you shunned, once again feeling that rush of neglect, so you trudged up the stairs, and back to your room to wallow, and get drunk by yourself.
You were lowering the bottle from your lips when showers attacked your windows, and you spared a glance at the rain, chuckling to yourself with a sniffle. The skies were mocking your tears, mocking your sorrow as you sat alone on the floor. The blackness of the starless sky was barely visible, but the swift flare of lightning provided illumination, and you braced yourself then for the impending angry roar that often followed.
You shuddered at the sound of clapping thunder, shutting your eyes as you took another long sip from the bottle of Don Julio you had tucked between your splayed thighs.
“It's just a storm,” You recited the sentence, wanting to convince yourself it couldn't get any worse. “It's just a storm, just a storm.”
As the downpour picked up, your breathing followed suit, the tequila whirling in your veins worsening your anxiety. “It's just a storm. Not like the power–”
Before you could cough up the rest of your sentence, the lights went out, the music stopped, and you could hear the wind’s sinister snicker as you rocked from side to side. “Fucking perfect.” Now, you were awarded the pleasure of crying like a lovesick baby in total darkness.
You sighed, attempting to hone in on the mumbling voices of the assholes downstairs, and their laughs that were not deterred by the pelting showers and deafening thunder. You took another sip, gulping it down and basking in its burn. There was a rap at your door, soft, almost questioning and you turned your head. It wasn't your brother, you could still hear his obnoxious baritone wafting up through the vents from where you sat.
The sound came again, this time followed by that voice you were in love with, shy and sickeningly demure, “Um, it's, it's Scotty.”
You didn't move, unperturbed by your drunken mind’s fondness for games, but when she spoke again, your battered heart led you toward her reprise. “I'm just checking–”
You pulled the door open, and there she stood, purple flannel engulfing her slim arms, frown set, and bright eyes wishing. “I'm just checking on you. I know you don't like thunderstorms.”
Scotty chewed her lip as you blinked before her, averting your teary eyes with a hung head. She wasn't oblivious to your state, anyone with sense could detect you’d been crying, and Scotty knew you well enough to discern that it wasn't solely the quaking skies inciting your waterworks.
“You remember that?” A small, desperate whisper disguised as a question. It held no weight, no power, but you watched as your words made Scotty shake. You’d relayed your fear to her once, when you were seven and she was eight, yet it remained a planted memory for her.
She didn't offer you words, just a nod, and you let your lips curl, dipping your head to hide your blush.
“I don't l-like knowing you're sad,” You stepped aside, making space for her to enter your bedroom and she moved intuitively to the scented candles decorating your dresser, burning them to welcome light into your space. “And I'm sorry. For making you sad.”
You shut the door instinctively, trapping her, with plans of keeping her. “Won't everyone notice you're gone?”
“Told them I was gonna go check the fuse box.” She laughed to herself, placing the last candle down, turning to face you in the darkened room, and you narrowed your eyes curiously. “I don't expect you to forgive me. But–”
“You want a drink?” You already had, forgiven her that was, and there lived no shame in your choice.
Scotty nodded, watching you stoop to the floor and she sat seconds later, mirroring you as you shoved the bottle toward her.
Dim candlelight brought your room to life, their low beacon silhouetting Scotty’s tipsy face as you watched her watch you. You were sitting across from her, chin on your knee with a smile as she permitted her palm to wander your outstretched leg. Her fingers brushed your ankle, making you giggle as she continued the action.
You would be forever indebted to the tequila she downed, because without it, this boldness would not bustle within her.
“Why have you been avoiding me, Viv?” Your eyes turned desperate, their gleam burning her in the dark.
“Haven't been avoiding you.”
You shook your head, “Liar.”
Scotty let her eyelids stutter as she scanned you, reading your written pages, decoding your metaphors with ease and you stiffened beneath her analysis. Scotty was your favorite story; a tale inscribed on your mended heart, but it seemed that she too was a lover of literature, particularly when you were depicted as the protagonist. “You don't like it when you don't have my attention.”
You huffed at her revelation. Suddenly, the booze you downed was no longer happy residing inside the depths of your stomach — it wanted out.
“I-I don't like when you ignore me for five days.” You managed to counter, just as a furious clang dropped from the heavens, making you jump.
Scotty’s lips fell, but her kneading fingers remained on your jeweled ankle, smoothing up and down, her intent set on calming you. “I'm sorry. I–”
“It made me think you weren't into me in that way.”
She blew a laugh, blushing under flickering flames and she craned her head toward the wet window. You wanted to keep her there, flustered as you were. “I-I don't think there's any other way to be into you. You're all I think about.”
“Then why go ghost after what happened between us?” You sucked in your bottom lip as you awaited her response, though the answer was one you knew already.
She massaged your socked foot now, thumb rooting deep with that strength you fantasized about, and fuck if you didn't pass out then. “You know why.”
“He doesn't matter. This is about us.”
Scotty sighed, “It's no secret that I don't have many friends. Your brother is my closest and oldest, his friendship means a lot to me. Can't ruin that.”
You grinned at her with a hum, blinking back the sting in your eyes and the surge of hurt her statement triggered. It wasn't worth the risk to her; you weren't worth the risk, caring for you, indulging in you. Scotty's goal wasn't to hurt, but the way she blurred these lines so easily was daunting. “Being with me could really mess your life up, huh? Well, we can't have that.”
“T-That's n-not how I meant it.”
“How did you mean it?” You snapped back, harsher than intended, making her flinch.
Scotty settled, taking a sip from the bottle before returning all her attention to your foot. Both hands clasped it now, and the pressure they provided sent shock waves through your entire body. “I don't want to mess up my friendship with your brother. But I also know my feelings for you aren't g-going anywhere, and I can't see myself doing anything halfway. Not ever, not with you.”
You gasped when she pushed in hard on your arch, throwing your head back with a low moan. “And especially not when you make sounds like that.”
Alcohol made Scotty brave, you’d discerned, you liked brave.
“W-What are you s-saying Scotty?”
She sighed again, “I'm saying I’m conflicted. I'm saying I like you a lot. I'm saying you make me crazy, but I know your brother and I know he won't approve.”
“You're saying a lot of things.” You both laughed, and she nodded.
“Yeah.”
Heavy rain banged on the windows, pattering on the house like your pattering hearts and you scooted closer to her on the carpet, tugging your foot from her fingers as Scotty's eyes widened. “Can I say my things now?”
There was a gulp, and Scotty nodded. For a moment, all you heard was the drumming in her chest that mimicked the unsettling thunder outside, but this rumble was not one you feared, however. Instead, it existed as the only roar that could settle you.
“I like you too, Scotty,” God, how you loathed diminishing your feelings, but you hoped she sensed the weight in your confession. “I wanna be with you. Breathing hurts when you're not around. If I make you crazy, then god dammit, you make me batshit fucking insane. What I feel for you, Vivienne… these words of mine cannot do that justice.”
“There's no way you're like that because of me.”
You sat in front of her now, and her breathing grew rapid. “Let me show you,” You straddled Scotty's lap, and immediately, her hands found your hips as if they called out to her. “Let me show you what I feel for you, Scotty. I want you to feel it all.”
“I know what you're asking for. But we–”
You shut her up with a kiss, a famished one, and a moan crept out of you and down her throat. Scotty's eager lips danced with yours, and you tasted the tequila on her tongue, the agent of desire driving all of the night's confessions. Scotty pulled away with a growl, panting as she pressed her wet mouth to your throat, teeth sinking into your sweaty skin, and you saw stars. “Fuck, Scotty. Do that again.”
“We shouldn't be doing this. I don't wanna–”
We can't. We shouldn't. Words that held no meaning as you bounced without patience on her lap, the only thing on your mind being that line you were anxious to cross. “Scotty, to hell with the fucking friendship. You want me, fucking take me.” Your hoodie came off, and her eyes found your bare breasts with a sigh, erect nipples entrancing her.
“Why are you doing this to me? Fuck…”
You licked her neck, and her grunt was enough to make you come right there. “Please touch me. Anywhere. N-Need to f-feel you, please Scotty, just…”
“Baby I–” Her hot lips were on your neck again; biting and sucking, leaving you drenched, and you fought the urge to shove her hand down your biker shorts. Scotty called you baby. She whimpered it, and if you weren't so horny you’d be in tears.
“S-Scotty…” Maybe you would cry, your desire to have her ravish you pulling on those dams in your eyes.
She shook her head, firm in her protest and you climbed off her, sitting topless on the carpet as you finally let those tears roll free. “You don't w-want me.”
Silence.
“It's alright. I’ll leave.” You stood, feet on a mission to lead you straight out the door.
But then Scotty stopped you, locking your wrist in her warm palm and you halted in her touch, “T-This is your room. And you don't have a shirt on.”
A wet laugh escaped you. You’d forgotten about your hoodie, you didn't even know where it landed when you tossed it, and your readiness to book it spoke to Scotty's skewing of your mind.
She spun you, cupping your wet face in the darkness and her forehead met yours. “Please don't ever think that I don't want you. I want you so bad it brings me to tears.”
“Show me.” She nodded, lips finding your wet ones again and you felt like you were ascending. The way her mouth moved against yours woke the family of butterflies living in your core, and their fluttering pushed for a continuance.
Scotty's eyes landed on your boobs when she pulled away, and her huff of air came instantly as she nuzzled her face into your chest with a grunt. “Fuck, oh my god. They're right in my face, they're right there. Please, god please can I–”
“Scotty, you can touch me wherever you want.”
There’d still been some hesitation on her end, but sure enough, Scotty lowered her mouth to your naked chest, peppering open-mouth kisses along your blazing skin. Your moans were already on their way out of your mouth, and by the time those caring lips swirled your right nipple, your sobs were carrying.
She suckled your breast hungrily, shoving your back up against the frosty bedroom door with a desperate hum. “God, you're so pretty. So soft, I-I can't–”
Your hard nipple was locked between her teeth, and you whined, running your fingers through her hair as the tingle the action created shot straight to your damp folds. “S-Scotty, baby... N-Need more. M-More.”
“Tell me. I’ll do anything,” She rolled your puffy bud in her anxious tongue, slobbering all over your boobs with her endless sucking, and you writhed, the sensation fogging your brain. “Fuck, baby I’ll do anything you want.”
She found the second one, nipping softly, and the feeling almost sent you to the ground. “Bed, p-please.”
Scotty held your waist, guiding you swiftly to your bed with her lips still latched to your nipples, and you were a moaning mess the entire while, whimpering her name with each step.
She stumbled, ushering you to your mattress and she sat you at the edge. “Baby I want– I-I…”
You clasped her cheeks, gazing into those starry eyes and you smiled. Electricity seemed so insignificant when Scotty's bright irises emitted such power. “Talk to me, Scotty. I know it's a lot, use your words, yeah?”
She nodded, “I just, I’ve never done it before, but fuck, I need to taste you so bad it's killing me.”
“Yes! Yes, anything you need, please!” Your response was rushed, bellowing out of you like a dangerous wind of want.
Her hands were on the waistband of your shorts then, grabbing greedily at the hem in the darkness. Everything about the way she moved showed desperation, and it was the hottest thing you'd been subjected to witnessing. It took Scotty longer than necessary to get your bottoms off, and once they hit your ankles, she whimpered. “N-No panties? God, what are you doing to me?”
She nestled her face into your thigh, taking a moment to admire your shiny dripping folds in the darkness. “You're so wet already.”
“Only for you. Please…” You sprawled wider, showing off your leaking pussy to the salivating girl before you, and she allowed herself to blink for the first time in minutes. It was a brief one; Scotty refused to take her eyes off the cunt she made wet.
“Can I? Please tell me I can put my mouth on you. Need t-to hear you say it.” Hot lips sucking on your inner thighs made you shudder as you searched your brain for those words she sought off your lips. It was hard, talking this much when all you wanted was to feel her tongue steeping in your slick.
Her lips were on your waist, kissing you delicately, sucking your supple skin in attempts to coax consent out your throat, “Baby… say it. Say it, please.”
She begged so sweetly, never had you heard such a simple request coated in that much vulnerability. Your fingers found her hair, and you nodded, dragging her head to your center. “Put your fucking mouth on me, Scotty.”
That initial stroke of her tongue packed a punch that knocked you straight into your purple sheets as you released a guttural cry, feeling her hungry fingers trail your convulsing stomach. “Oh my god!”
Her sucks were masterful, the sensation of Scotty trapping your clit between her tender lips snatching the air from your lungs. You wanted to moan, wanted to cry her name as her sucks built you up, but you couldn't. All sound was trapped in your throat as you let your tears slip silently with Scotty’s tongue inside your depths.
It was all a dream, an overwhelming dream, except it wasn't. This was real life, the lapping at your dripping core was happening in real-time. And she made sure you knew that; there had been no taunting, no edging, Scotty went right for it, slurping your honey-coated folds as though it were her only purpose. “S-Scotty…”
“Is it good? Am I doing good?”
“Fuck s-so damn good. Perfect.” You pushed your hot cunt harder into her face, and Scotty breathed you in deep, neglecting oxygen as she chose to bury herself in your spilling juices. “Just like that! Ooh just like that!”
“Like this?” The languid strokes against your excited bud sent you soaring, small whines tumbling from your lips as you nodded in approval, relaxing into the pressure.
Your tears rolled down your face as you reveled in the way your pussy accepted Scotty's starved mouth, your body finally receiving the attention you knew she deserved.
“You taste so good, can't believe you're this wet for me.”
“Oh, Scotty, baby, every drop is for you. Only you make me this wet! Only you!” You were gonna come soon, that dangerous tongue of hers luring your climax from her hiding place deep within you. She crept up slowly; shy and unsure, but the second eager fingers slipped into your pulsing hole, she exposed herself, and the spasming force of pleasure she harbored.
“Fuck! Oh! Oh! Scotty, I'm coming please, don't stop! Please please please, baby, don't stop!” You squirmed as your orgasm hit, flailing desperately as you screamed Scotty's name over, and over, and over. Her free hand found your wet nipple, squeezing, tugging as she continued to lick, and suck you through the pleasure rush, never once taking her eyes off your body's reaction to her touch. “God, baby, wait, wait, I-I can't!”
She shook her head as she allowed her tongue to replace her fingers inside you, “Not done.” Her mission being to drink in every drop, every trickle of your cum, the sap from the fruit she was forbidden to have. Scotty knew it would be too much for you, but stopping herself wasn't an option, so you would just have to take it.
Your pleading clit palpated against her taste buds, shivering the longer she licked, but you would rather be rendered unconscious before you denied Scotty access to your wetness.
“M’gonna make you come again.” Her tongue swirled your entrance, pushing in and out, in and out as she swallowed everything your pussy expelled, your fractured whines only egging her on.
You nodded, eyes spinning, as you began to let yourself plummet, tangling in your sheets from the overstimulation. “Make me come again b-baby! I only w-wanna come for you, Scotty!”
“Are you mine?” Scotty's hand left your nipple, fingertips grazing your quivering abdomen on their way down to spread your pussy lips as she devoured you.
Your hips jerked. She was so desperate, her words pulling on that second release, and you braced your shaking body for impact. “Yes, I'm all yours Scotty.” You’d always been hers.
One last thrust of her tongue broke that dam holding back your raining orgasm, and you squirted in her face, groaning long and loud as your toes curled and your heels dug into her shoulder blades.
“You sound so p-pretty. So gorgeous.”
Your chest heaved, and your vision was damn near nonexistent, small flames doing what they could to anchor you. But you saw her, you saw Scotty: her pretty smile as she emerged from your deepness, the way both loads of your cum decorated her lips, and the way she licked them clean before climbing up the bed to hover above you.
“Are you okay? You aren't talking to me.” You wanted to, but the mist in your mind eliminated every word you knew. Every word except those three. They existed on your tongue, brash in their fight to escape, but you refused to be bested, even in this fragile state. “Baby? Where are you, talk to me, please. Need to know you're alright.”
“Mmm.” It was small, barely audible, and it did not suffice for Scotty.
She cupped your face, loving as ever, and those deep, lust-filled eyes bore into your drooping ones, “Hey.”
“H-Hi.” You gave her a weak smile, still floating, barely conscious and she kissed you softly.
Scotty swooped your braids out of your face when she pulled back, marveling at your blown irises under the moonlight seeping through your cracked curtains. You’d forgotten about the rain, but the scattered showers hadn't forgotten you. They demanded you shut your eyes and drift, and they somehow managed to get Scotty onboard. “I think you're done for the night, yeah?”
This rattled your heart, the idea that she would stop touching you and you shot up breathlessly with a stern head shake. “No! No, I n-need to f-feel you, wanna m-make you come t-too.”
Her blush was instant, “I don't wanna make this about me, this is about you, I just want to take care of you.”
“It’s about us, Scotty,” You pulled her in for a deep kiss, tugging at her flannel. “T-Take this o-off.”
A smile covered her lips and she pushed off you to strip. You were propped up on your elbows as you watched her, a smirk hanging on your mouth as your butterflies attacked your insides. Scotty reached for her briefs, but you stopped her, “Wait! Let me just… take you in for a minute? Just wanna s-see you.”
You’d waited your entire life to have a naked Vivienne Scott all to yourself, and you'd be damned if you wasted even a second of this glorious moment.
Scotty chuckled nervously, standing before you in her sports bra and boxers, wrestling with the desire to hug her middle and you frowned. “Scotty, do you know how fucking gorgeous you are? God, it's overwhelming.”
“Thank y-you.” She slipped her underwear down and you moaned at the sight of her pretty pussy. Dripping and glimmering, just begging to be consumed, and you licked your lips at the thought of being buried between those thighs of hers as you took her to heaven with your tongue.
“Come here.” You beckoned her forth with a lone digit, and she pulled her bra off before allowing your call to draw her in. She climbed you, settling her waist between your open legs as she peered down at your mess, then back to your eyes. “See what you do to me, Viv? Only you can m-make me come that hard.”
Your confession made her blush, and she buried her head in the crook of your neck shyly, “You can't say that, god I don't know how to take stuff like that.”
The waves from her giggle as she pressed her lips to your neck tickled you, and it made you grin. “You're so cute, but it's true.”
“Can I kiss you?” The question was her way of shifting the subject, and you laughed at her bashfulness before agreeing, pulling her lips to yours eagerly. “You feel so good under me.”
“I wanna feel you against me, Scotty.”
•••
Your right leg hung over Scotty's left, hips rolling skillfully into hers as you allowed her soft clit to knock tenderly against your own. She brushed your stomach as you rode her pussy in the dark, eyes glued to the meshing happening at your equally slippery cores. “Oh, Scotty, feels so good, fuck! God!”
A blissed-out Scotty lived only in your dreams, sweating and panting from the pleasure you caused her, moaning your name as you humped her cunt with yours until she was spilling all over you. Never had you thought a reality such as this could exist, and the sensation of finally living it had you bawling above her as she groped your bouncing boobs. “So good baby, I can't–”
She too was crying below you, overwhelmed by the pleasure created when your clits kissed. “Come for me, Scotty. Oh my god, come all over me, wanna feel all of it.”
“You're so stunning, so beautiful. My beautiful girl.” You’d been keeping count of the many times she'd called you hers all night, and the sound of those words falling from her lips coupled with your tired bud pressing into hers numbed your mind.
You gripped the back of her thigh, feeling its warmth, its dampness as you slipped your pussy against her swelling folds, ears welcoming the slick sounds of your melding cores. Each squish, each splash, pulled on Scotty's release, and it delighted you, the idea that she was in this state because of you. Scotty was going to come because of you. “Your pussy is so pretty Scotty, the prettiest. Can't believe I'm about to make her come. Please come for me!”
“Yes baby, I'm close, you're gonna make me come!” Her protruding clit knocked into your erect one and you screeched, the pads of your fingers leaving impressions on her soft skin. You felt your cum trickle from inside you, seeping onto Scotty's sex, nice and warm as it lubricated your desperate jolts. Your pussy was made to mold with hers, your releases serving as the nectar of your love, fusing you to her, thick and sticky and everlasting.
As the storm outside your windows intensified, so did the passion blooming in your bedroom; the spluttering rain was no match for the wet sounds created by the loving collision of your dripping cunts.
She was breathless, eyes rolling as she gnawed on her dry lips and you smiled, noticing a bead of sweat running down her erratic chest.
You leaned forward, grinding never faltering, and you licked it, absorbing her perspiration with your thirsty tongue. Scotty’s body convulsed at the feeling of your tastebuds grazing her abs, and you trailed a long line of spit up her middle, to the space between her boobs before pulling the left one into your mouth. “Oh yes… so good, feels amazing, keep doing that.”
“Come on my pussy Scotty, don't hold anything back. You deserve it, baby, please.” You mumbled with her hard bud trapped between your teeth.
“I'm, I’m, fuck baby w-wait– I'm coming all over you! I-I…” And her hips rolled faster, her breathing grew harsher and Scotty arched off the bed, moaning a long gurgle of your name, and it was this that exorcized the spirit of your orgasm from your own trembling being, hips sticking and stuttering as you felt the warmth of Scotty's cum pouring out of her and onto you.
She jerked underneath you, involuntarily striking your exhausted clit and the pair of you hissed from the hurt. You wanted to stay that way, keep her there, gasping for air as her head swam in her rapid release, eyes dazed and dark with her breathing inevitably mirroring your quiet huffs. Your cunts and thighs were a mess, cum coating your bodies as it drizzled down your interlock limbs. After a while it became indiscernible, whose juices belonged to who, but you didn't care, because you liked it that way, you loved it that way.
Scotty was an extension of you, your pleasure an extension of her own.
“That was amazing, baby, I-I, Th-thank you. I…”
You kissed her forehead, pulling her in as she caught her breath, and you smiled into her damp eyes. “Scotty, I need you to f-fuck me.”
“I d-don't,” You felt her tense, and her panic set in. “I’ve n-never–”
You pecked her, nibbling her bottom lip before pulling away, “S’okay. I’ll show you how I like it, just please, I need it. I need you.”
“I’ll do whatever you want.”
•••
“It's okay baby.” You were holding Scotty's face as she hovered above you, your trembling thighs widening to grant her entrance. As dark as it was, your slickness beamed brightly in the lack of light, shining only for her.
You pulled her in, ignoring her spilling tears as you planted a kiss on those delicate lips of hers. “I trust you, and I know you won't hurt me.”
Scotty nodded, gripping the head of the strap in her shaking fist as she rubbed it up against your achy clit, pulling on a hiss that prickled your eyes. “Scotty, I–”
The sensation was a lot; too much, and the building friction of the sensual assault on your bud had you weeping once more. “I know baby, I know. I just… Please let me rub it here for a little while,” Scotty used her hips now, avoiding your awaiting hole as she pushed the slicked toy through your tired folds, your clit throbbing beneath each glide. “You're so wet, I just wanna hear it, okay? Just wanna rub it against you.”
You could come from this: the pain, the pleasure, every emotion Scotty unlocked inside of you. But you were fighting it, battling that creeping crack deep down, because you wanted your last orgasm to consume you with the love of your life submerged in your canal.
She kissed you, guzzling your warm tears sitting on your puffy lips, “Please tell me you're wet for me. Tell me I can put it in, please?”
“S-So wet for you Scotty, please put it in, I need you, baby, need you so bad it fucking hurts.”
She wasted no time sinking into your searing heat after that, making you sob upon delivery, and you pulled her closer. Your nipples grazed hers with each of her ruts as your sopping cunt sucked her in, and she moaned in unison with you at the sudden contact. Her open mouth was on your wet cheek, pecking you as she filled you, stuffing your hollowed bones with a syrupy salve contrived of pure ecstasy. Her long, laggard strokes did away with that gorgeous ache you'd grown to love.
You just felt her — Scotty’s essence existed everywhere.
She was deep, bottoming out with the sexiest grunt you'd ever heard. The feeling of being stretched out around her as she worked your hole warped your mind, and you lost your grip on reality the higher she took you, something she sensed as she studied your contorting features. “Baby, b-baby, stay with m-me, eyes on me, okay?”
“I know. I'm g-good, keep doing it like that. Fuck me d-deeper. Need to feel all of you.”
Scotty swatted your watering orbs, rocking into your g-spot with all the care in the world, eyes swallowed black like the night sky as she spread your worn-out cunt with precision. “You're so precious, I-I don't want to ruin you.”
“Ruin me Scotty. Fucking ruin me.” Wet eyes clouded your vision, blurring the distant flicker of your candle’s waning flames as the sound of Scotty fucking you filled the room. Though gentle, her drives held power, sending tsunami-level waves of exhilaration through your cells. You could feel your pussy blooming wider as she drilled you into your creaking bed, and you inhaled the prominent aroma of Mulberry and Vanilla dancing in your room, allowing it to lull you.
Staccato thrusts tore you apart with each loving jolt, electrifying you as you wailed in her arms. Scotty was breaking you just so she could mend you. “You're doing amazing, s-so perfect. Don't cry baby, I'm taking care of you. Does that feel good?”
"G-Good."
She nestled into your bruised neck, inhaling you deep with grunts that made you quake. “Thank you for letting me take care of you, s’all I’ve ever w-wanted, baby.”
“I-I…” Your throat burned from all the crying, and you gripped tightly to her rolling shoulders, pulling her impossibly closer to your barren skin. “I love you, Scotty.”
Three little words. You’d been battling them all night, warring with them all your life, and tonight they emerged victorious. Their might surpassed your own in this state, frail and fucked out, floating aimlessly on your many billows of bliss. So you spit them out, and without hesitation, Scotty drank them, allowing her slow thrusts to gain speed as though your declaration were fueling her.
“I love you too. I love y-you s’much. You mean everything to me, you're m-mine.”
“I’m y-yours, Scotty. Only yours.” She bit your neck, hard, pulling on your hot wells, and you watched them drizzle down her bare back, mirroring the raindrops racing one another down your fogged windows.
“Please come for me. Please, please, need you to come with me inside you baby, you're so beautiful when you come, sound s-so pretty.”
You nodded weakly, already feeling that tensing band deep within. It wrapped around itself, stiffening — toughening into a coil whose demise was inevitable with the way Scotty fucked into the creamy chasm of your cunt. And you felt your walls narrow, clenching the strap and holding it in place the second she pressed the tip into your overstimulated nerves. You came then, eyes rolling like the thunder stifling your scream as your red nails punctured Scotty's flesh.
Her hips stammered when she knocked them into yours, and she used your throat as a silencer, grunting lowly into your sticky skin, weeping as you were from her own approaching climax. “I'm, I'm, b-baby I’m coming. Please, let m-me, I wan-wanna, Can I…”
You huffed, exhaustion treading through your body as you pursed your lips to kiss her head, “Let it out, Scotty. Give it to me, yeah? I love you so much, you make me feel so fucking good baby.”
Your name leapt from her stomach with one last push, and she whimpered softly into your ear, panting like a dog. “I love y-you.”
You were barely awake when Scotty eased her way out of your used walls, and you squirmed, feeling your hole clench around the absence of her stretch. You cried still, body vanquished by the thrill of the entire ordeal. Her lips pillowed your wet face tenderly before she rolled beside you, the pair of you exhaling on the same breath as the rain comforted your weariness.
Scotty said nothing, and her prolonged silence forced your mind to wander. Had she regretted the sex? Had she regretted you? Did she truly love you as you loved her? You wept heavier now, sniffling in the darkness, “I-I guess… I guess y-you should get going now. Don't w-wanna get cau–”
“Did y-you mean it?”
Your turn in the sheets was immediate, words steeped in admiration as you spoke, “I meant all of it, Viv.”
“Me too.”
You exhaled, mustering the courage to request to hear it again. “Can… I wanna hear you say it again. Please? Tell me again.”
Scotty did away with that practiced stutter, welcoming confidence into her confession. “I love you.”
“And I love you. Deeply, entirely, and unequivocally, Vivienne Scott.”
She sighed, and you detected her wavering assurance in the brush of her fingers when she stroked your side, “I-I w-want to be yours.”
You kissed her, sipping the fervor raining from her swollen lips as you permitted her respire to enter your being, melting the ache you once thought to be eternal. “You're mine.”
•••
Getting Scotty up and dressed proved to be exceedingly difficult. Rain still poured, the lights were still out and you were certain her absence would be questioned eventually. So she needed to be gone. “Baby, please, I don't wanna leave you. Just one more kiss? Last one please, please!”
Fuck… She deserved it. You wanted her to have it, but there was no time. You knew your brother well, and you had no plans of dealing with his scolding tonight if caught, not after the experience you and his best friend just shared. You wanted to allow yourself time to float on your high. But Scotty wanted one more kiss, and her lips were morphine. “Okay. One, Scotts, just one.”
“One.”
You pecked her, guiding her to the door and she whined into your throat, forcing you to swallow the heat it pushed out, and the gust shocked every last one of your nerves. You reached for the knob, lips still locked, and you pulled the door open. “You have to go.”
She giggled, stealing another peck before stepping into the hallway, flannel bunched in her fists, belt still unbuckled.
“Bye.” She said it, but her feet had yet to move, and all you could do was smile.
“I love you so much.” You pulled her in again, kissing her deeper, fuller, and it was you who moaned aloud this time as you fumbled with her belt buckle, wanting to clasp it for her, but fighting the urge of falling to your knees.
Her lips hovered over yours, sweeping, ghosting, and heating your feverish skin, “I lov–”
“Scotts, you still up here? I don't think you're gonna get that fuse fixed mate, the whole–” Your brother looked up from his phone, shining his flashlight down the dark hallway, and directly into your faces. “Yo, man what the fuck?!”

after successfully infiltrating the astral express and downloading a bit of data from dan heng's computer, you returned to elios' office to deliver the flash drive where you were praised for your work.
...in truth though, the flash drive you gave to elios was a fraud. should he open it, it would only be a security error with corrupted data. you executed this flawlessly, too, due to the sake of your curiosity and admiration for dan heng.
as a result, you were given a few days off, considering you didn't exactly have any missions to do since kafka, blade and silver wolf were assigned to those missions.
elios really did fall for it, huh? after all, you had a plan for dan heng.
the moment you entered your own room, you pulled your blindfold off, looking into the mirror with those strange, stellaron-infused eyes of yours.
right... you were a test subject to a project of another world. the scientists that practically had your life in their hands had these experiments where they'd force a stellaron into someone's body to see if it was compatible. but alas, you were somehow compatible with a stellaron forced into your eyes, deeming you a successful experiment, and forced you to become a powerful soldier for the worldly military. unfortunately (?) for you... your world was... well, destroyed for whatever reason. you didn't have any memories besides you were being tortured constantly by those scientists. kafka had retrieved you and took you prisoner at first, where elios had given you the opportunity to work for him.
and now here you were, one of the best performing members of the stellaron hunters.
... and really, here you were, seated at a café in belobog. you were a regular here in belobog on your days off.
in public, you wore a pair of sunglasses that kafka specifically made for your eyes. your eyes weren't always visible, but you always had the hearts of the baristas.
you always ordered a sweet, white mocha latte, and the baristas in the café who practically had a crush on you basically memorized your order. they always created cute little foam art on your coffee that represented a cat, or a bunny... sometimes random animals whenever you paid them a visit.
while you were relaxing on your day off, you hear your phone go off, a gentle buzz and your peculiar notification ping that rang through your very ears.
".. hm?"
➽ unknown: hey, it's me.
ooh, oh my. he really did text you...
➽ ???: oh, you really did text me, dan-dan. let me add you.
➽ dan heng: your name isn't even displayed through your contacts...?
➽ ???: oh, not at all. i like to keep my identity a secret.
➽ dan heng: i see.
➽ ???: so, what brought you to text me, cutie pie? did you miss me? ♡︎ i missed you too you know.
➽ dan heng: i'm texting you because i want to know why you downloaded the information of my entire database into that flash drive... and you didn't even bother erasing everything on my computer.
➽ ???: it should be obvious to you that i stole some info from you lol ♡︎ it's for my boss.
➽ dan heng: boss? you're a stellaron hunter then?
➽ ???: was it not obvious enough, babe? why, cmere, let's talk more in person. i prefer talking to you than text.
➽ dan heng: okat.
➽ dan heng: ojay.
➽ dan heng: okay**.
➽ ???: lmao. you're so cute... but i doubt you can come here right now. you're still on xianzhou luofu aren't you?
➽ dan heng: ?? how did you know i was just there... well, i guess it makes sense considering kafka was there too. but i'm on my way to belobog right now to visit a library. we can meet up later.
➽ ???: oh, well lucky day for the both of us. i'm at the café in belobog.
➽ dan heng: alright. well, i'll be there soon.
➽ ???: see u soon cutie
there was a sly smile across your face as you placed your phone upside down on the table. you were quite excited to see dan heng again since that fateful day. it wouldn't be long until dan heng would show himself.
the café had bells attached to the door, and the moment you heard the bells jingle, you took one final sip of the latte before moving the empty mug to the side of the table, recognizing your little boy toy from a bit of a distance.
catching the glimpse of your h/c hair and the lack of visibility of your eyes, he made his way towards your table, seating himself across from you. you could hear the quiet gossiping of the baristas as they wondered if you were truly single.
"hey, baby." you cooed at dan heng, who had a serious expression on your face. "oh, you didn't bring anyone. i was half expecting you to bring your trail blazing team for a moment."
"were you worried?" dan heng raised a brow as he looked down at the menu.
"ufufu. no, not exactly. you didn't seem to bring a friend on... the first date."
you see him flinch a bit, a tint of red painting his cheeks as he coughed awkwardly.
"this is not a date." he stammered.
"yes it is.~" you cooed before tapping the table. "order anything you'd like. it's on me."
"i don't want to order anything. i'm here purely for business purposes." dan heng said, as he looked straight towards your sunglasses.
"... the flash drive. you already submitted it to your boss, no? for what purpose do you have with the information in my database?"
there was a look of amusement. he could read it too, despite being unable to see your sunglasses.
"oh, who knows? my boss was just telling me to do things. i get paid very well whenever i'm tasked with what to do, y'know. that's the work of a stellaron hunter." you tilt your head, staring at him amusingly. "oh, right..."
reaching into your pocket, you pull out the flash drive. the same one you used to infiltrate his computer.
"i still have it. i gave my boss a fake one."
dan heng froze at the sight of the flash drive, almost ready to reach out to steal from your grasp. but you were... well, faster than him, especially when you had knocked him on his ass the other night.
"...what? why do you have that? look— just," dan heng shook his head, "i doubt anything i say will sway your mind to giving me that flash drive."
"ah, ah, ah." you mused, shaking your head at him. "hold up there, dragon boy. you're rushing into conclusions too fast. do the others know about this, actually? did you tell them?"
dan heng shook his head. you read his body language — he wasn't lying.
"...i see. perfect. let's have a deal, then."
dan heng blinked, raising a brow. "a deal?"
"you heard me, cutie." you said, looking back to the menu. you might order another latte or something else in a bit...
"...what's the deal?"
"hehe. curious, are you? well..." you stuffed the flash drive away, adjusting your sunglasses. "be my boyfriend."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"..." you were smiling innocently at him.
".. wh— gh-..? huh!?"
"did i stutter, babe?"
dan heng choked for a moment, coughing into his fist as he turned red. "what—? why? are you... a-are you sane right now?"
"guess i'll turn in the info." you mused.
"wait—wait. fine."
your smile widened. "oh, geez, dearie me. does this mean you're my boyfriend?"
dan heng exhaled, looking to the side. "... i don't even know your name. if i'm going to be your boyfriend, i at least need to know your name. you already know mine."
"oh, for sure. as a reward for being so obedient, i'll tell you my name.
...it's y/n. ♡"

A Whole New Ballfield: "ALN" Story (Pre-Serum Omega!Steve and Alpha!Bucky Modern Domestic AU)
Six:
After a long day of back-to-school shopping with the girls, Steve couldn't help but be relieved that it was done. Sure, he knew that he should've appreciated that the girls still wanted him around when they could've easily gone with their friends. However, he couldn't help but be glad that he could finally return home and relax. At least, for a little while.
"Ooh, can we get some coffee?" Cori asked, as the popular cute café came into view.
"Yeah, can we?" Bitsy asked.
Nevie clasped her hands together and pushed her lower lip out into a pout as she pleaded, "Please, pops?"
And while Steve had no intention of denying them, he feigned exasperation. Letting the girls sweat it for just a moment. Especially since his mind was made up almost as soon as the suggestion was offered up.
As a litany of pleads filled the cab of the van, Steve blew out his breath and signaled for the drive. Of course, that only gained more noise from the teens as they rejoiced. Steve simply shook his head.
Pulling into a spot near the door, Steve cut the engine and climbed out. Only once his hand was on the door did he remember that Sheila's was more than just some hopping coffee shop, it was the employer of Kit's crush. And Steve decided to see if he could get a feel for the girl that the young adult was so infatuated with.
"I'm definitely in the mood for a frozen Avalanche latte," Nevie decided as they took their place next in the queue.
"See," Bitsy started, "I'm thinking more of an iced Bear Cub."
"Lame," Cori commented. "Both such basic choices."
"Haven't you ever heard of, 'if it's not broken, don't fix it?'" Nevie good-humoredly scoffed.
Bitsy, on the other hand, argued, "As if you're not equally as predictable."
"I never said anything about predictability," Cori flipped her freshly highlighted blonde hair over her golden-tan shoulder. "But since you brought it up..."
Steve shook his head, but decided to occupy himself with glancing from the menu high on the wall and glancing at the baristas. Wondering which one was The One. Admittedly, Kit was the one who didn't have a type at all. They had dated people of all shapes, sizes, and identities. It was something that Steve loved about them, but it was making spying on their crush more difficult.
"Okay, then what are you getting, Cordelia the Great?" Bitsy asked her sister.
"I'm going all out," Cori shrugged, taking a step forward when the line moved. "The German Mocha is the only way to go."
Bitsy tossed her head back as she exaggerated a laugh, "And you called us basic?!"
As some of the other café goers looked over at them, Bitsy flashed an apologetic smile their way while her naturally pale-white skin reddened. Even Nevie's cheeks reddened from the attention, though she wasn't the one to cause the other's gazes to redirect to them. Meanwhile, Cori couldn't have cared less and acted as though they didn't exist at all.
Steve simply shook his head and mentally face-palmed. Knowing that this was one of the reasons why no one brought anyone home to meet them until they were serious about them. Sure, that meant that the family only met a few of the partners, but it was understandable. And it made Steve wish that Kit's crush Carmen wasn't working today.
"Next?" The cashier unnecessarily called out.
The Barneses moved up to the counter and Steve's gaze landed on a petite brunette with a welcoming smile that lit up the room. Steve didn't need to read the name tag to know that she was the object of Kit's affection. It was that obvious, and Steve got it immediately. From the energy that she gave off, Steve knew that she was a great match for the twenty-one year old.
"Welcome to Sheila's," Carmen greeted with a naturally raspy voice. "What can I get for you today?"
"Oh, um," Steve turned his gaze from the young beta woman towards the menu. Usually, he didn't mind an iced Americano. But for some odd reasoning plaguing his mind made him paranoid that he didn't want to seem so plain. After all, this could be the person that Kit spent the rest of their life with, and he didn't want to ruin a first impress–
"Pops," Cori regained his attention.
The three teens looked at him expectantly and he asked, "Did you guys order?" They nodded and he decided, "Okay... I'll take a, um... A, um... You know, my kid came here and said that there was a tea latte that tasted like a snickerdoodle. I'll take that."
It was as though something clicked for her then. And Steve worried that he had said too much. Instead of calling him out though, she rang them up.
Moving towards the other end of the counter so they could wait for their drinks, Steve was a little mortified when Carmen mirrored them on the other side. Since the Barneses were the last ones in line, the only thing the beta had to do was help with their order.
"So, you're, uh," Carmen started as she got the milk ready to steam. Steve fidgeted with his keys, waiting for whatever followed that. "You're Kit's dad?"
"Their pops," Steve kindly corrected. Not knowing if the twenty-one year old had mentioned anything about their alpha father specifically or if they just made general comments about either of their fathers.
Nodding, Carmen informed, "They mentioned something about their mimi's Spouse Stealing Snickerdoodles, and how you're quite the baker."
"Is that so?" Steve asked, intrigued.
Carmen nodded again, and that was when the triplets caught on. A shit-eating grin crossed Cori's face, Bitsy quirked a brow, and Nevie quietly her sisters, "You don't think...?"
"Oh, definitely," Cori whispered, confirming while Bitsy added, "Who else would it be?"
"So, you're... friends... with Kit?" Steve asked, ignoring his daughters.
"You could say that," Carmen smiled. Sprinkling cinnamon on top of Steve's tea latte, she joked, "Of course, I have been trying to get them to bring me some of those cookies. Especially with how much they've talked about them."
Taking a huge leap, Steve decided, "Well, we're actually having a cookout this Saturday. If you'd like to join us. I'll even make some of those cookies."
Carmen lit up further, "That would be great!"
Nodding, Steve agreed, "It will be, yeah."
Only once they left Sheila's did Steve realized what he had just done. Sitting there in the red minivan, Steve gasped and asked his daughters, "What did I just do?"
"You just pulled a yenta," Bitsy giggled.
Cori shook her head and tutted, "The poor girl has no idea what she's just gotten herself into."
Of course, that could have been said about anyone that joined their family. No matter how brief their relationship with the Barneses happened to be. It took a unique person to fit in with them. But when Steve looked into the coffee shop, he could feel, deep in his bones, that Carmen would have no trouble fitting in at all.
Now he just had to hope that Kit didn't murder him for going behind his back...

Strawberry Lattes
Tumblr media
Summary: He always needs his morning caffeine to wake him up for his morning classes. He never knew what it feels like wanting to come back to a particular place again and again solely for one reason, until he met you. You were a full time barista and a part time university student. Despite the stress you get almost every week, your two friends have always been there to support you. What happens when your friends come to visit you at your workplace one day, only to find out that they were friends with the same boy who not only is your eye candy, but also your regular customer?
Genre: Super fluffy
Pairing: Kim Sunwoo x GN Reader
Word count: 5.5k
Tumblr media
It was another dreadful morning after only 2 hours of sleep due to staying up all night hoping to finish at least 50% of the assignment. But this wasn’t an excuse for you to call in to work sick or unable to come for your shift. Hence, the reason why you were now forcing yourself out of bed to freshen up and get ready for work. You were a full time barista at a local café downtown just around the corner from your apartment, and also a part time student at Yonsei University.
The reason why you chose this path was because you wanted to further your studies but also earn a monthly allowance in order to pay for your school and house bills since you were living alone and didn't have the time to search for a roommate.
Despite the stress load you get every once in a while, you managed to cope and tried your best to pass each module. Today was no different, as you got ready for work and was out the door by 0730. You arrived at the café only to find your manager already preparing the coffee machines and restocking the cakes in the fridge beside the cashier. You greeted him good morning before he smiled at you.
You went into the back room to put your bag down and took your apron. Proceeding to head to the front where the cashier and coffee machines were.
“Did you get enough sleep yesterday?” Kihyun asked.
Before you could reply, a yawn left your lips as you used the back of your hand to cover your mouth slightly.
“Nope. But I’ll be fine.” You said. You could hear the heavy sigh that left his lips when he closed the fridge door and soon turned to you with a frown.
“(Y/N), you know you have to get some rest. It’s not good for your health.” Kihyun said, but you nodded.
“I know Ki, but I can’t fail this module.”
“Just… know when to take a break okay?”
“Okay.”
With that, he went to the back room to settle some paperwork while you stayed by the counter, refilling the powders into the containers. After you were done, a few customers had entered to buy their morning caffeine doses. 4 orders and 5 minutes of silence later, you leaned over the counter top with one knee resting on the stool in front of you that was hidden from any customer in plain sight.
You supported your head on your palm, slowly finding yourself drifting to sleep when the doorbell chimed, catching your attention. You looked up to see a guy walking into the café looking just as tired as you were but he had more life in him.
“Dang he’s cute.” You thought to yourself as you quickly wiped the pout off your face and soon replaced it with a warm smile.
“Good morning, may I take your order?” you greeted him.
He flashed you a soft smile before glancing up at the menu boards hanging above your head.
“Do you have any recommendations? I feel like trying something new.” He finally looked back down at you, only for you to feel as though your airflow got sucked out of your lungs.
“Personally I really like the Iced Matcha Latte with soy milk if I want a non-caffeinated drink. But if I want that espresso kick to start my mornings, I really love the Strawberry Latte, with two pumps of syrup and a light dash of strawberry sprinkles. It’s not too strong and it definitely gives you a sweet tangy balance to the bitter coffee taste.” You ended your speech with a light giggle after you realized how long it was.
The male only smiled fondly at you during that whole minute explanation but it was worth it. “Great, can I get the exact order for the second one then?” He said. You looked quite surprised but nonetheless smiled as you began to key in the order
“Choice of size?”
“Regular please.”
After you were done, you took the regular size takeaway cup and a marker, looking at him to ask for his name or initials.
“Sunwoo.”
The corner of your lips tugged upwards, writing down his name before setting the cup to your left beside the coffee machine and soon charged him for his order. After he was done paying, you returned him his change and gave the receipt before telling him to wait at the collection point. You made the drink exactly how you would make it for yourself. Smiling happily upon seeing your creation being prepared for not yourself, but this time for a customer.
After you had sprinkled the strawberry powder on top of the foam surface, you took the lid and secured it close before you went to the collection point and called out softly.
“Strawberry Latte for Sunwoo.”
He walked forwards as he took the cup, not forgetting to give you a smile.
“Thank you-” His eyes darted towards your name tag pinned to your apron before he looked back at you. “...(Y/N)”
You bowed to him slightly as you watched him leave the café. After he left, he didn’t forget to spare a quick glance into the café, only to see your smile soon disappeared. Replacing it with a small pout when you let out a sigh. Sunwoo chuckled as he continued walking to campus that was just 2 blocks away.
Tumblr media
For some reason, he couldn’t stop thinking about you even after he made it to his first lecture. The small smile gracing on his lips didn’t go unnoticed by his friends as Kevin began to nudge Sunwoo’s elbow the minute he came to sit beside the former.
“Aye, why are you smiling like an idiot huh?” Kevin asked.
“Maybe he just sniffed a smiling gas.” Younghoon said.
“What the hell is that?” Jacob asked.
“I was being sarcastic you nimrod.” Younghoon said, making the former one growl.
“I’ll tell you guys later.” Sunwoo said as he couldn’t wipe the smile off his face.
2 hours passed and they were now heading to the food hall in the main building, when Hyunjae slings his arm over Sunwoo’s shoulder.
“So? Why were you smiling all morning today?” He asked, causing the rest to focus their gazes on him as Sunwoo sighed knowing he couldn’t run away now.
“Ahh, it’s nothing… I went to get my morning coffee and there was this really cute barista who attended to me. That’s all.”
A series of “ooh”s were heard as the boys got noisier by the second.
“Jeez, can y’all shut up? You’re embarrassing me.” Sunwoo said as he quickened his pace, only for Younghoon to grab hold of his backpack and pulled him back.
“Oh please, you should be thankful we even gave reactions to what you say.” Younghoon said, making Sunwoo scoff.
A few weeks later, you were just handing a customer her plate of pasta and a cappuccino at one of the tables when you heard the doorbell chime. The customer you were attending to, thanked you for bringing her orders to her, smiling and replied to her.
“Your welcome. Enjoy your food.”
With that, you began to walk back to the front counter when you saw a group of guys gathered in front of the cashier. Right when you were just about to walk past them to head behind the counter, one of them glanced towards his right only to lock eyes with you. It was Sunwoo. The same regular customer that came every morning before his classes. The same guy who you may or may not have a tiny crush on.
The moment you locked eyes, you could feel your heartbeat stop for just a millisecond later as he flashed you a soft smile. This was enough to make you blush as you smiled back to him shyly before quickly making your way behind the counter.
“Oh great, you’re back. Help me take their order will you? I have to prepare the delivery ones.” Kihyun said simply. You were about to protest but you had no choice since the other part timer was on his lunch break.
So you nodded defeatedly before you returned the tray back at the collection point before you went back to the cashier, only to see Sunwoo standing there alone.
“Hey.” Sunwoo said as his lips began to tug upwards.
“Hey. What can I get you today?” You asked with a shy smile. Your voice sounded much softer than usual. You didn’t miss the little chuckle that left his lips before he spoke up.
“There’s gonna be a bit more than one order today.”
“I can see that.” You joked.
“Can I get one regular iced mocha, two regular double chocolate frappe, one small iced americano, one regular iced vanilla latte, and my usual please.”
You keyed in his orders as he spoke, only for you to look back up at him to confirm if that was all he wanted. Sunwoo gave you a firm nod, proceeding to charge him for the orders and soon told him to have a seat, you will call out to him once the drinks are ready. Sunwoo nodded as he left, not forgetting to smile at you for the umpteenth time that day.
You soon came beside Kihyun and started to make the drinks. Sunwoo on the other hand, immediately got dragged down into his seat by Kevin when they began to make comments about you.
“You were right, they’re hella cute!” Kevin said.
“Do you think they’re attached?” Younghoon asked.
“I don’t know. I mean, they’re quite cute. It’s impossible they’re single.” Sangyeon shrugged.
“Not all good looking people are attached. Even some normal looking ones are attached. We can’t just judge from their looks.” Sunwoo said defensively, only for Changmin and Haknyeon to smirk.
“Or are you just saying that because you want them to be single?” Changmin said, causing the rest of them to agree teasingly.
“Whatever, they wouldn’t date someone like me anyway.” Sunwoo said.
Not long after he finished his sentence, your voice echoes around the café walls as you called his name.
“Drinks for Sunwoo.”
With that, Sunwoo got up and soon jogged his way to the collection point, only to find you standing behind the counter with the tray in hand. You smiled as you pushed the tray gently towards him.
“Be careful. It’s heavy.” You warned.
“Don’t worry.” Sunwoo said, couldn’t help but smile at him.
He soon came back to their table and distributed the drinks. Almost half an hour had passed, they were just talking about random topics when Sunwoo happened to glance towards the counter. Seeing you laugh at something your manager said.
He didn’t realize he was smiling until Sangyeon spoke up. “Sunwoo yah, if they make your heart flutter that much, why don’t you just go there and ask them out?”
Sunwoo whips his head to Sangyeon, almost pulling a muscle while doing that.
“What?! N-No!”
“Why not?”
“The last time I asked someone out, I got turned down harshly in front of everyone. I couldn’t sleep for days!”
“Sunwoo yah, you’re just thinking too much. Just try and ask them out. Who knows they’ll accept?” Haknyeon asked.
“I don’t wanna risk it.” Sunwoo said. Glancing back to the front counter.
“Why must I have a crush on the cutest barista working just two blocks away from campus?” Sunwoo thought to himself as he gently shook his head and went back into the conversation with the guys.
A few minutes passed, some of them were discussing their project work while some were doing their own stuff when Sunwoo saw you left the counter only to walk towards an empty table near the back of the café. Since the café was not so packed, Kihyun told you to eat at one of the tables. So as to not feel cramped in the back room.
You had a transparent cup filled with what seems to be strawberry latte and a plate of sandwich. Sunwoo was caught staring by his friends as Younghoon nudged his arm to gain his attention.
“This is your chance to talk to them.”
Sunwoo saw some of them nod in agreement as he glanced back at you who was just taking a bite of the sandwich while scrolling through your phone.
With much motivation, he finally got up and made his way towards your table. You were just looking at your Instagram feed when you saw a figure come to a stop on the opposite side of your table.
You looked up to see Sunwoo standing there with a nervous smile as he spoke up. “Do you need some company?” He asked. You giggled, locking your phone screen and soon placed it face down on the table.
“Sure, that would be great.” You said. He pulled the chair out and soon took a seat.
“You’re just having that for lunch?” He asked curiously as he looked at the plate in front of you.
“Mmm.”
“Is that enough to fill you for the rest of your shift?” He asks, genuinely concerned at how little you ate.
“Yeap! Don’t worry. I always get something heavy to eat before my night classes.”
Sunwoo paused only to raise his eyebrows in confusion.
“Night classes?”
“I’m a part time student at Yonsei U. That’s why I’m a full timer here.”
“Wow… Are you able to cope with work and study at the same time?”
“It can be tiring and mentally exhausting sometimes but I persevere.”
Sunwoo was shocked at this new information but nonetheless gave you some comforting words to help cheer you on. “That’s… a lot to take in. I hope you don’t stress yourself out too much. Please get some rest and don’t overwork yourself.”
You hadn't seen this side of him before but it was very sweet of him to even say all those things to you. You ended up chatting for a bit, only for you both to find out that he was a student at Hankuk U, you were the same age, you both loved sushi and many more.
Your lunch break was ending soon but you were dreading to say goodbye. “Well, it was really nice talking to you Sunwoo, but I’m afraid my break time’s almost over.”
You pouted sadly, only for him to chuckle.
“Do you have class tonight?”
You nodded.
“Hmm, don’t worry okay? I’ll see you tomorrow morning.” Sunwoo said, making you giggle at his disclaimer.
The both of you got up only for him to speak up.
“My friends and I are leaving soon too. I’ll see you tomorrow. Take care, don’t forget to eat before you head to class!” He reminded you. Not forgetting to give him a nod.
Tumblr media
A few days later, you had just ended your night class and you were almost burned out for the day, you could barely keep your eyes open. Only for your phone to ring. It was Eric.
“Hello?” You said into the line.
“Hey! Are you finished with class?”
“Yeah. I’m heading down now. Where are you?”
“At the parking lot. Me and Chanhee hyung decided to wait for you today.”
With that being said, you gasped lightly, unable to digest this information.
“Wha- Eric are you serious? You didn’t have to- omg.”
“No, it’s fine! Besides, me and hyung needed to discuss something anyway. Meet us at the parking lot okay?”
Before you could reply, he already hung up the call, making you sigh. You felt bad for making them wait for you since it was already half past 10 at night. But then again, they did it out of their own will. You arrived at the parking lot, only to see Chanhee and Eric leaning against the side of Chanhee’s car amongst a few other vehicles left just chatting away while waiting for you.
Just then, Eric glanced towards the entrance, only to see a very tired you dragging your feet towards them. You could barely open your eyes as you held onto your bag strap for your dear life. Right when you had just arrived in front of them, your vision blacked out, feeling your head pound against your skull. You let out a soft groan, falling forwards, just in time for Eric to catch you.
“Woah, are you okay?” He asked worriedly as Chanhee and him exchanged glances to one another.
“Mmm, y-yeah… I just blacked out for a bit.” You said, only to hear Chanhee sigh.
“How many times must we tell you not to overwork yourself and get some sleep?” Chanhee said.
“I did sleep...” You tried to defend yourself, but they knew you better than you know yourself.
“How many hours did you sleep last night?” Eric asked as he narrowed his eyes at you questioningly. You avoided their piercing gazes by answering their question in a hushed tone.
“An hour and a half.”
With that, your two friends let out a heavy sigh as Eric looked disappointed in his friend. It wasn’t because he was mad at you, it was because he was growing more and more concerned over your sleeping patterns and your health. You weren't just schooling, you were working as well so it would only be right if you maintained a healthy sleeping pattern and a balanced work/study time.
“That’s it. You’re coming home with me. I’m gonna make sure you get that sleep you so well deserved.” Chanhee said as Eric nodded in agreement.
“What? No, I’m fine. Okay, I promise I’ll sleep tonight.” You said.
“Yeah right.”
“You don’t trust me?” You asked with a pout.
“On this? No, I don’t.” With that, you scoffed as you knew you couldn’t fight back with them. So with that being said, you ended up following Chanhee to his apartment since he lived alone. Once you were back at Chanhee’s place, he told you to wash up. He let you borrow a loose shirt and sleeping shorts.
He told you to sleep in his bed and that he could take the couch. At first you rejected it, saying you could sleep on the couch but he refused.
Chanhee purposely placed your bag in the living room so that you couldn’t sneakily stay up all night and worked on your assignment. Chanhee’s body clock was never normal to begin with but to him, your sleeping pattern was more important than his.
Hence, the reason why he was still awake at 3am, watching the live broadcast of the World Cup. He was trying so hard to keep quiet to avoid waking you up as he eagerly watched the tournament. Just then, he thought he heard soft whimpers in his head.
“What the-” He mumbled to himself as he continued watching the game.
Just then, the whimper sounded again and it was a lot more distinct this time. With that, he lowered down the volume just to see if that sound would appear again. Not long after, he heard the whimper again and it seemed to have come from his hallway.
Chanhee got up immediately as he went to his bedroom, opening the door gently.
That’s when he saw you shifting uncomfortably in your sleep. He approached you in a rush as he saw you clutching onto the blanket against your chest as you had a frown on your face.
You were mumbling something in your sleep but he couldn’t really catch what you said.
“(Y/N)? Hey wake up.” Chanhee said softly as he placed a hand on your shoulder and lightly shook it. It took him 3 tries to finally get you awake when you jolted forward. Your breathing was heavy as you sat there with cold sweat running down the side of your face.
“It’s okay (Y/N), you’re okay. I’m here. It’s just a nightmare.” He comforted you while grabbing a handful of his shirt.
He pulled you into a hug, feeling your body shiver. They stayed like that for a while, only for him to tuck you back in bed. He pushed your hair away from your face as he looked down at you gently with a soft smile.
“Goodnight (Y/N).”
“Goodnight Chanhee.”
He was about to walk away when you grabbed his hand.
“Thank you… for everything.”
Chanhee could only smile, gently caressing the back of your hand with his thumb and soon spoke up.
“Get some rest, (Y/N).” You nodded only to let go of his hand. You fell back asleep a few seconds after as he went back to the living room, only to turn off the television and went to sleep himself.

It has been 4 months since Sunwoo first came to the café and you've gotten a lot closer than before.
However, Sunwoo still has yet to ask you out on a date.
It was a chilly Wednesday afternoon and both Chanhee and Eric promised to visit you after their lecture. The time was 35 minutes past 2 and the two guys had just entered the café, settling themselves into one of the empty tables beside the glass window after they ordered their drinks.
After making their drinks, you made your own drink and took one of the sandwiches from the fridge. Making your way to them for your lunch break.
“Hey guys, one iced mocha and one iced matcha latte for the two sweetest guys I’m lucky to have as friends.” You said, causing the two boys to smirk.
“Just friends?” Eric teased.
“Best friends.” You corrected yourself, only for Chanhee to laugh at Eric’s pained reaction.
“Ouch, never thought I’d be friend zoned this quick.”
You found yourself giggling as you spoke up to comfort your friend while you took a seat beside him.
“I love you, Eric ah.”
He couldn’t find himself being angry at you as he immediately melted and soon became a giggling mess. You were just chatting away, gossiping about the same stuck up girl in their class who keeps acting as if everyone was head over heels for when they’re actually not.
Just then, a familiar voice calls out to Chanhee and Eric from a distance behind you making your heart skip a beat.
“Hey! Hyung! Eric ah!”
Chanhee glanced past your shoulder while Eric turned to look over his own shoulder before they smiled widely and waved eagerly to whoever was behind you.
“That voice…” You whispered under your breath, only to slowly turn around. That’s when you saw Sunwoo walking up to your table along with his usual group of friends. However, you didn’t miss the look on Sunwoo’s face when he locked eyes with you. He was definitely surprised but also confused as to why you were seated with his friends.
“Oh? It’s the cute barista!” Juyeon said innocently. Flashing them a bashful smile. Just then, both Chanhee and Eric turned to look at each other simultaneously only for them to look at you and spoke up in unison.
“You’re the cute barista Sunwoo’s been talking about?!”
With that, Sunwoo gestured a punch to them signalling them to keep quiet. Only for him to look at you and ask.
“You know them?”
You could only nod as you told him the truth.
“I’ve known them since college.”
The rest of the boys gasped at the newly profound information. They couldn’t believe you were mutual friends with Chanhee and Eric. The 12 of you ended up sitting in two separate tables side by side whilst Chanhee and Eric began to spill the tea about Sunwoo.
“I can’t believe he’s been talking about you all these while.” Eric said.
“If I had known sooner, I would have set you two up on a date.” Chanhee said, causing you to glance at Sunwoo who was sitting opposite you. You cleared your throat and glanced down at your wrist watch before you got up abruptly to avoid any more awkward conversations.
“Oh look, my break time is ending. Nice talking to you guys. Thanks for visiting me today, my babies. More cakes for you? Yes? Okay.” You said in a rush. Quickly leaving the table, earning a laugh from the guys. Thinking that your actions are cute.
“Sunwoo, you really have a good taste don’t you?” Eric teased, making Sunwoo throw a tissue paper packet to Eric’s face, catching the poor boy by surprise.
You were in the back room, having a short break when your co-worker, Mingi called for you from the door.
“(Y/N), somebody wants to talk to you. He said he’s a friend of yours?” Mingi said, making you hum in confusion but nonetheless left the back room.
Only to be met with Sunwoo standing at the collection point.
“Sunwoo?”
“Hey, umm, I was wondering… Are you… free, this weekend?” You found yourself blushing as you tried to come up with a quick response.
“Uhh yeah. Yeah, I’m free.” Sunwoo didn’t expect you to say yes so quickly but it definitely made him feel slightly happy that he didn’t get rejected.
“Great. Umm, I’ll pick you up at 8?”
“Okay.” You smiled genuinely.
“Okay… Well, I uhh, better get going. Bye (Y/N). See you.” He said shyly, his ears starting to burn red.
“See you Sunwoo.” You said, only for him to quickly leave before his whole tomato head explodes.
Weekends finally came and it was already 30 minutes past 7 and you were struggling to find a nice outfit to wear. You didn’t know exactly where he was taking you, all he said was to wear nicely. You were nervous to say the least. You haven't been on a date in like what? 2 years?
Ever since your last date where you got stood up, you decided not to go on any more blind dates. You would rather stay single for the rest of your life than being played with and getting your heart broken again and again.
Sunwoo texted you a few minutes later saying he was downstairs so you replied by saying you’ll be down in a minute. You soon left your apartment and locked the doors before heading down the corridor towards the lift lobby. Once you were at ground level, you made your way out, only to see Sunwoo leaning against his car door.
The minute he noticed your figure walking towards him, he looked up only to give you a one over. You stopped a few feet in front of him with a shy smile as he spoke up.
“Wow, you look really stunning.”
“Thank you. You look dashing.” You giggled.
Sunwoo was wearing a dark blue button down shirt tucked into his black denim skinny jeans, a pair of black sneakers and a few stainless steel accessories. He recently dyed his hair to a deep berry colour. He soon opened the door for you. Getting in before he walked over to the driver seat. Once he was in, he buckled his seatbelt and started his car engine.
“Where are we going?” You asked.
“It’s a surprise.” Sunwoo said with a cheeky smile as you could feel your heartstrings pull.
The drive to the destination wasn’t as long as you thought, maybe because the journey was filled with jokes and laughter every now and then. Before you knew it, he finally pulled into a parking lot at what seems to be an outdoor movie theatre.
“Sunwoo yah… This is…” You paused as you got out of the car while he reached over to the back seat to take the blanket he brought to lay it down on the grass. He came back to your side after locking his car, only for you to continue from where you left off.
“So cute. How did you even find out about this outdoor movie?”
He smiled as you both began to walk towards the open space where quite a lot of couples were already seated down on their own blankets.
“My friend told me about this when he went on a date with his girlfriend the other day. So I figured why not give it a try.” Sunwoo said, making you blush.
You managed to find an empty space so he laid down the blanket and soon sat down. While waiting for the movie, you talked about almost anything. The movie soon started as everyone was starting to get excited. Halfway through the beginning of the movie, you were sitting beside Sunwoo with your legs extended out in front of you.
The night slowly got breezy, feeling the cool air blowing on you softly. Just then, he saw you straightening your posture, rubbing your arms to keep yourself warm. He felt bad that he couldn’t give you his jacket since he didn’t wear any.
However, an idea flashed across his mind, making him turn to you to speak.
“Hey, are you cold?” He asked. You turned to him with a small smile before you answered.
“Yeah, but it’s fine. It’s just a little chilly, that’s all.” Sunwoo wasn’t convinced as he saw your teeth clattering, making him chuckle softly.
“You know, I heard from somewhere that close body contact can keep us warm.” Sunwoo suggests indirectly to you, turning your head to him to see a playful smile on his lips.
You giggled as you looked at him with your brows raised.
“Are you okay with it?”
“If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t suggest it would I?” He asked, causing you to mentally facepalm at your ridiculous self.
“Right. You have a point.”
You heard him chuckle when he pat the empty spot in between his legs, gesturing for you to come over.
“C’mere.” He said.
Once you have settled down between his legs, you feel him wrap his arms around your body, trapping your arms. Gently pressing your back against his chest. Warmth immediately engulfing you both as you snuggled deeper into his chest.
“Warm enough?” He asked, only for you to nod.
You stayed like that for the rest of the movie. Sacrificing his back if it meant keeping you warm throughout the 1 and a half hours of the movie.
After the movie ended, you went to get supper before he sent you home. You agreed to let him walk you all the way to your door. Hence, the reason why you were now standing outside your apartment door. You unlocked the door but then turned around to face him.
“Thank you for today Sunwoo. It was a fun experience watching a movie outdoors for the first time under the starry night.” You said as he smiled.
“I’m glad you liked it…”
“I hope we can do something like this again soon.” At that being said, his ears perked up, staring at you in awe.
“A-Again? Does that mean…?” He paused, causing you to giggle.
“Yes. I’d love to go on a date with you again.”
Sunwoo couldn’t contain his excitement as he smiled from ear to ear, his adorable toothy grin made your heart skip a few beats. He elicited a soft giggle, biting his lip to stop himself from smiling too much.
Just then, you decided to take it upon yourself by pressing a soft kiss onto his cheek. Sunwoo was frozen in place as you smiled up to him endearingly before you bid him goodbye. You quickly entered your apartment to hide your flushed face when you could feel the embarrassment starting to creep up on you. You leaned against the door. Trying to steady your heartbeat.
After what felt like forever, you finally pushed yourself off the door and was about to walk deeper into your apartment when there was a knock.
You turned around to open it and you were greeted by Sunwoo again, seeming he finally came into senses.
Without any words exchanged, he took one quick step forward, reaching up to cup your face with one hand before he gently pressed his lips against yours. You melted almost immediately when you felt him smile into the kiss. Sunwoo could feel his heart get weaker, snaking one hand around your waist while pulling you closer to him.
Your hands rested on his chest as he pulled away with a soft sound, only for you to keep your gaze on his collarbone. Too shy to look at him in the eye.
Sunwoo gently took your chin in between his thumb and index finger. Tilting your head up, making you lock eyes with him.
“I’m pretty sure that just proves to you how I feel about you, but I still wanna tell you in words. I really, really like you. And I would love to take you out on more dates and be able to call you mine.”
With his cute confession, you couldn’t help but giggle. Wrapping your arms around his neck before you spoke up.
“I like you too Sunwoo. And yes, I would love to go on dates with you, and for you to call me yours.” With that being said, Sunwoo smiled in victory. Kissing you again sweetly.
The next day, you broke the news to your friends as you got happy cheers and excited screams in the group chat. Sunwoo never thought he would date anyone after being rejected multiple times but maybe he was fated to meet you and be the person who orders the same drink every time at the café you worked in. Maybe now he could finally live his love life with more cuddles and Strawberry Lattes.

it was a frostbitten february evening when you met the boy at the bakery.
you were seated upon the counter, back turned to the deep brown door through which you’d first entered months ago, eager to apply for a barista position. minho sat across from you on the cashier stool. he was always better with the baked goods. you were a great team. the two of you were bored; a familiar feeling that accompanied weeknights at the bakery-cafe. people tended to arrive either in the morning time or late in the afternoon, and very seldom later. plus, your manager trusted the two of you enough to lock up on your own. and so, the two of you would be left to your own devices for a few measly hours a night per week.
“i bet you couldn’t make a batch of sugar biscuits without instructions,” he teased with a snarky grin. he was right. that was more his thing than yours.
so, you retaliated. “i bet you can’t do the same with a mocha frappe. or even simpler: an iced americano.”
“please!”
“oh yeah? step right up, biscuit boy,” you retorted with a giggle, gesturing to the coffee maker that sat beside him. there were multiple in the shop, and truth be told, he had no idea which was used for what types of beverages.
confidently, he grabbed a cup from the stack on the table behind him, striding over to one of the machines. he then took a look at all the knobs and buttons, clearing his throat. you chuckled. with his finger ghosting over one of the buttons, he turned back toward you to check for your reaction. “not even close,” you remarked. he clicked his tongue, turning back toward the coffee maker. “just a hint,” you added, “the first step isn’t coffee.”
he simply looked up, bewildered. he turned back toward you, dropping his hands to his sides and parting his lips into a circular expression of disbelief.
suddenly, the sparkling tone of the door chime behind you caught both of your attention. peculiar. nobody was usually around at that hour. as minho put his cup back on the table, you hopped off the counter, turning toward the front of the store.
in walked one of the most strikingly handsome boys you think you’ve ever seen. if not the most handsome. an angular face; fair, slightly pink-tinted skin decorated with the most endearing assortment of freckles. they were almost reminiscent of the chocolate sprinkles minho used to top off the cupcakes situated inside the glass counter case. his hair was a vanilla blond and long enough to delicately cascade over the side edges of his face. cherry red lips that parted upon his arrival, chocolatey brown eyes staring right back at yours. he was astonishing.
“how can we help you?” minho asked him, stepping forward. he couldn’t help but notice the way your eyes seemed to be bugging out of your head. he had to stifle a chuckle or two.
the boy’s eyes lingered on yours for a moment. or maybe you dreamed it that way. regardless, he walked up to the counter, inquisitively placing his hands behind his back and bent over to glance at the contents of the case. “hi! uh…” he seemed sweet, though his voice was much deeper than you’d expected. it was unique. he was unique. and in quite a rush, as well. “...shit,” he cursed under his breath. he seemed to have startled himself with his expression. he looked back up at you, then at minho, a tight-lipped smile and strawberry-pink blush appearing on his face. “sorry,” he said.
minho finally let out a chuckle. “no worries. what’re you looking for?” he was always so good with the customers. smooth yet considerate, witty, yet firm. you always aspired to be a little more like minho when it came to customer service.
“do you have any of the salted caramel cupcakes left? they seem to be gone.”
“ah, we seem to have run out of those. could i interest you in a peanut butter cupcake instead?”
the boy shook his head. “no… she likes caramel.”
she. there was a she.
“may i ask what the occasion is?” minho asked.
“it’s my mom’s birthday, and she’ll be home from work soon... hopefully. i would’ve made my own gift to her but i didn’t have the time…”
“enough said,” your coworker assured him. “does she like chocolate? we have a few salted caramel brownies in the back.”
he almost gasped. “that’s perfect!” he paused. “um… how much is that? i-is it more than the cupcake, or…?”
minho glanced through the glass at the tag beside the brownie tray. “nope. less, actually.”
the boy let out a short sigh of relief. “great. thanks so much.”
“ah, it’s nothing. one sec,” minho said before walking into the kitchen to grab the brownie from the fridge. an awkward silence ensued between you and the boy.
“a name for the order?” you blurted. dumbass, you thought to yourself.
“i’m… the only one in the store…” he replied.
heat rose to your cheeks. “i… um… it’s protocol-”
“felix.” he cut you off before you could embarrass yourself further. he could tell you were nervous.
a unique name as well. of course.
“coming right up, felix,” you murmured, a hint of sarcasm in your voice. both of you chuckled.
minho came back out to the counter holding a small blue box with the cafe logo on top. “you’re all set! that’ll be…” he pressed few buttons into the cash register before continuing. “ten thousand won.”
“perfect.” felix grabbed his wallet out of his coat pocket. he pulled out a few bills from the black leather case, handing them to minho with a small smile. he was excited to surprise his mother, and happy that it wouldn’t cost as much as he’d thought it would. and you found it adorable.
minho took the money, ringing felix up and inserting the bills into the register. he handed felix the box, which made the boy’s face light up even more. it was hard for you to suppress a similar countenance. “i hope she likes it. have a good night!” minho said, closing the register. he crossed his arms and leaned on the counter as felix waved to the both of you and began walking back toward the door.
“thanks so much. you too,” he said, giving minho a small bow.
with his hand on the door, he glanced back at you once more. you smiled. he returned the expression. and just like that, with a brief gust of cold air sweeping through the shop, the boy was gone.
“you, uh… you know we only take names when there’s a line, right?” minho teased as the door shut, the chime letting out what seemed to be a pitied laugh.
you held your hands up to your forehead. “ugh, i know! i’m such an idiot,” you replied, letting your nerves go with a chuckle. he patted you on the shoulder, laughing with you.
in between laughs, he remarked, “he really made you that nervous, huh?”
“you could tell?! oh, great… wonderful!”
the two of you carried on for a moment, making light of the otherwise mortifying exchange. but finally, minho glanced at the clock and asked, “would you mind locking up tonight? i’ve got a date.”
“ooh!” you cooed, taunting him. “a date... who’s the not-so-lucky lady?”
“what joke book did you get that one from, hm? i had no idea you even knew how to read!” you gave him a playful punch in the arm for his sarcastic dig, causing him to giggle. yet, he answered your question, saying, “it’s a girl i met on the train home from school the other night. chaeyoung.” he looked off to the side, seemingly entranced. “she’s really witty and smart… and gorgeous. like... gorgeous.”
“ah, yes… so gorgeous that it causes men to leave their posts… and friends…”
“if i bring you back some takeout, will you quit being an ass?”
you pondered the question for a moment. and, while you’d be bored as hell in his absence, closing up the shop wasn’t much of a hassle on weeknights… and, well, you could always go for a free meal. “...pleasure doing business with you, lee minho.”
“thank you. as with you,” he commented in return. he took off the periwinkle blue, involuntarily worn apron which you’ve both been made to wear, revealing what you hadn’t even noticed was a dressy outfit. well, dressier than usual. he’d opted for a pale blue button-up shirt, tucked into black skinny jeans, all tied together by a chic black belt and a pair of black loafers. not to mention the small silver hoop earrings and matching necklace. you had to admit, he did look dapper.
he quickly strode to the back of the kitchen at which there resided a small storage room where you and the other employees usually dropped off your belongings. he grabbed his backpack and put on his long black coat, quickly making his way back up to the counter and walking around to the front of the store. “catch you tomorrow! thanks again.”
“takeout! don’t forget!”
“i couldn’t even if i tried,” he retorted, opening the door. the two of you waved to each other before he took his leave.
moments later, the door opened once again. you figured minho must’ve forgotten something. looking up, you began to ask, “what’d you forget this ti-”
it wasn’t minho.
it was felix.
he paused in his footing, little blue box still in hand. you jumped just a little. he noticed. “s-sorry… i just, um…” he looked off to the side. “i guess this is a bit of a long shot... considering the two of you seem to be more than enough staff… but…” he paused again, taking a moment to straighten his posture and scratch the back of his head. “is there any chance you might be hiring… any time soon?”
the answer was no. undoubtedly. he was right in thinking that you, minho, and the other employees were perfectly capable of handling the cafe. though some mornings and weekends were a bit tight, the team made it work. if this was anybody else, you could’ve easily said no.
yet, he persisted. “i can bake! i like to think i’ve been getting better at it… and i can clean as well.”
you couldn’t turn him down. you simply couldn’t. not with those kind eyes locking themselves with yours, the enthusiasm in his deep voice, or the hastening beat of your heart. “i’ll talk to my manager!” you affirmed. you smiled, causing a similar reaction out of him. an idea popped into your mind. if only for a moment, you thought it was the best you’d ever had. your eyes averted themselves to the pale yellow note pad and ballpoint pen on the counter, used to take orders from seated customers. “here,” you said, reaching for the pen and paper and handing it to felix. “if you’ll give me your number, i can text you with any updates.”
he walked back up to the counter for the second time that night, taking his number down on the pad. as you watched him intently, eyes fixated on his concentrated face, you silently praised yourself for being so brave. especially after the whole name debacle. your heart was at its wits’ end. “there,” he said, placing the pen down on the counter and sliding the notepad back to you. “i really appreciate it.” he sounded so genuine. he flashed you another smile. he had such a grand, bright, toothy smile. it would stay in your memory for days, weeks, even months to come. you can still recall it now.
“it’s no problem,” you responded. “...i really hope your mom likes the brownie.”
“thanks. i’m sure she will.” he turned to walk toward the door. you almost turned away as well, excited to examine the style with which he’d written on the pad, until he spun back around once more. “oh! one more thing… can i get your name as well?”
the question came as a bit of a surprise. you nodded to him, letting out a short giggle. “y/n.”
he grinned again. it was smaller that time; a bit more subdued. effortfully so. “ah. well…” he began walking backward, eyes connected with yours as he headed toward the door. “goodnight, y/n.”
“goodnight, felix.”
and thus, your pursuit for a job offering began.
Tumblr media
your manager, chan, was reluctant to accept your proposal for him to give felix an interview. however, you made note of how eager he’d seemed that night and the skills he’d mentioned having. you also mentioned how he’d been so enthused to find out the price of his order. and so, after a couple days’ worth of mulling it over, chan finally gave in.
you weren’t supposed to be at the cafe when felix was being interviewed. however, your saturday afternoon shift had just ended, and the place was essentially empty. well… apart from you, chan, felix, and then jeongin, who wandered in from the storage room to find you eavesdropping from behind the wall separating the kitchen and the dining area.
“y/n?” he asked. “what are you-”
you inaudibly shushed him, motioning for him to come closer and hide with you. he did so.
“chan’s interviewing someone,” you whispered to the boy.
“ah…” he responded, his tone hushed. “so why are we hiding?”
“because we’re not supposed to be listening.”
“so why are we doing it?”
“because i want to know how it’s going.”
“so why can’t you just-”
you shushed him again. he obliged, covering his mouth with his hand.
from the other side of the wall, chan asked, “so felix, do you have a resume?”
“uh…” felix stammered. you could hear the nerves in his voice.
“let me put it this way,” chan offered instead. “do you have any prior working experience? at another cafe, another store, a completely different place...?”
“oh! yes. i’ve bagged groceries at the supermarket on third street for the last few months. that’s where my mom works. but i’d much rather work here, if i’m honest...”
“ah. okay.” chan nodded, jotting down some notes in his notebook. “so y/n told me you could clean...”
before chan could finish, felix proudly exclaimed, “i can! i do a lot of cleaning at home.”
“perfect.”
the interview went on for a few more minutes. jeongin let out a few silent chuckles every once in a while, mocking your state of concentration. but who could blame you? you just wanted to make sure felix got the position. he seemed to need it.
you totally weren’t in it for his smile… the freckles… the adorable creases that formed at the edges of his eyes when he grinned with that sweet, genuine, toothy grin of his… no, not at all…
nevertheless, he got the job.
Tumblr media
“i love this apron,” felix had said to you on his first day. he was quite fond of your uniform. everyone else in the shop hated them; what, with the pale blue color, white pinstripe pattern, and the ‘one-size-fits-all’ design. yet, in every sense of the phrase, it fit felix perfectly.
“i’m glad someone does,” you replied. he laughed.
“when i got the cleaning job, i wasn’t sure i’d get to wear one. but i’m happy i do.” he smiled at you, his pearlescent teeth on full display and face aglow with joy.
after about a week of training, felix became a natural at his job. though it wasn’t much, he took great pride in his work and enjoyed taking any opportunity he saw to do a little extra sweeping, some more dish washing, and even some dusting here and there.
he also fit right into the employee dynamic. every once in a while, you’d find him playing hand games with jeongin. or, sometimes, minho would discuss baking with him, as he often noted his affinity for it.
“have you ever tried using oats in your chocolate chip cookies?” felix asked. it was monday night. and, as per usual, the shop was devoid of customers.
minho looked puzzled. “oats?”
“yeah. it adds a little nuttiness. it’s really, really good.”
“huh… i’ll have to try it out sometime. i like to add a bit of coffee grounds to the flour when i make mine.” then, he leaned in to whisper, “don’t tell chan, though.” felix let out a nervous giggle.
“don’t worry,” you said to him. “minho’s only kidding. i’d never let him touch my coffee grounds.” this made all three of you laugh.
after the laughter died down, felix looked at the clock. it was four in the afternoon. “well, my shift is over,” he said. you were disappointed. hanging out with felix had become a bit of a highlight for you. he always carried himself so kindly. he had a bubbly soul, and a pure twinkle took residence in his eye whenever he smiled. you couldn’t help but feel light and airy while around him.
“hey, i’ve been meaning to ask,” minho started to felix. “do you bike here?”
the other boy was confused. “no. why?”
“oh… then, do you walk?”
“yeah. it’s only a few blocks,” felix responded, shrugging.
“do you need a ride?”
felix paused to think. “don’t you need to stay here? to lock up and everything…”
“i’ll come right back.”
you chimed in, suggesting, “i can close tonight.”
“you sure?” minho asked you. “i don’t have any food to bribe you with this time.” you both chuckled.
“it’s fine by me,” you said.
minho thanked you, stating once again that he owed you. the amount of times you’d done this for him was countless. but you never seemed to mind. and so, off they went. you were glad felix had integrated into the friend group so well. you supposed that he was just that loveable.
when it finally came time for you to close up shop having not received any other customers for the night, you waltzed into the storage room to grab your things. however, you noticed something strange sitting atop one of the shelves that hadn’t been there that morning.
an envelope. with your name on it. and a tupperware container filled with a single slice of what looked like chocolate cake.
your heart flinched. you were shocked. flustered, flushed. confused… but endeared. you hesitated. shakily, you tore open the cream-colored envelope’s seal, careful not to rip too much. you wanted to preserve its crisp smoothness.
“y/n,” the note said...
“a gift to you,
a chocolatey treat,
a token of thanks
for being so sweet.
~ me”
your heart fluttered. you ran to the kitchen, opening the container and grabbing a freshly-cleaned fork from the metal sink. you dried it off on your apron before excitedly digging into the dessert. it was more of a brownie than a cake, you realized, with melted chocolate chunks stuffed inside. it tasted amazing.
you began wondering who this mystery gifter could’ve been. it couldn’t have been minho… it simply couldn’t have. the two of you were much too close. and he was always more confident than anybody you’d met. if he liked you, you would have already known. besides, things seemed to be going well with him and chaeyoung. no… this had to be someone else. jeongin, perhaps. he did always made such high praises about your cappuccino-crafting abilities. you looked to your left and right, peering around the kitchen for signs of life. but alas, you were all alone in the cafe.
then it hit you.
of course...
felix.
you recalled the first time you met. when you had him jot his number down on the piece of paper. you remembered his handwriting; the way some characters curled on the ends, the rounded shape of his letter e, the squiggly line he used before he signed his name… it was felix. it had to be.
and you were ecstatic.
Tumblr media
the next day, you entered the shop to find a full house. it was a saturday morning, after all. you enjoyed the breakfast rush, mainly because you got the chance to show off your coffee-making skills. you made your way to the kitchen, greeting jeongin at the counter on your way in. you said hello to minho and seungmin as well, who were busy stand-mixing and hand-folding various types of batter. they were a great team, especially on mornings like those. though they tended to bicker about ingredients and proportions, the sweet treats they’d concoct always turned out excellently.
finally, felix emerged from the storage area, duster in hand. when he saw you, however, he froze. with his eyes wide and cheeks beginning to flush, he greeted you. “h-hi, y/n… good morning!”
you let out a bit of a giggle. does he know that i know? you asked yourself. granted, the mysterious gift giver signed off as ‘me,’ so you couldn’t say you were positive… but this reaction told you otherwise. “morning!”
he nodded, smiling nervously. he gestured to the storage room. “the shelves in there are all dusted now.”
“great! i think i’ll… um…” you pointed to the room, slipping past him to stash away your belongings and put on your apron.
“yep! you… do that…” he muttered as you walked away.
however, when you walked in, you found something peculiar displayed upon the shelf.
another envelope. and another container.
you turned back toward the door to find felix peeking in. you chuckled. “so it was you!”
he stepped to the side, coming into full view. “how’d you know?” he asked.
“i just… had a feeling.” you grinned.
he paused, a tight-lipped smile spread across his face. “well, open it.”
you placed your coat and bag on one of the shelves below. you then opened up the envelope just like you had the previous night: meticulously, yet enthralled. it read,
“another dessert
for a person so sweet
will you honor me kindly,
and go out with me?
YES / NO
~ me”
once you looked back up at him, felix commented, “you were supposed to circle one…” he then began rambling. “i thought you didn’t come in until later. you don’t have to say anything right now, or at all, and-”
though you thought it adorable, you cut off his nervous prattle, stating, “yes.”
his eyes grew even wider, his strawberry tinted lips forming a circular shape. “you mean…”
“i’ll go out with you, felix,” you confirmed.
his face lit up. and yours did, too.
Tumblr media
thus, one date became two, two became four…
by the end of february, you were officially a couple.
you were a perfect match. each of you complimented each other so well, rivaling the bittersweetness of a good cappuccino when paired with a light and fluffy slice of cake. like minho, felix’s baking abilities and knowledge never ceased to amaze you. you explained the ins and outs of coffee brewing while he told you all about how he bakes his tasty treats. he even showed you some of the recipes his mom handed down to him from generations past.
his mom sounded so wonderful… yet, a part of you felt so sorry for her. felix’s dad left when he was young, and she’s always had to fend for herself and her son all on her own. however, when she was let go from her office position the previous year, things began to spiral. she took up two jobs: one at the local grocery store and another waitressing at a restaurant in the next town. she was always so busy. but felix understood. he tried helping out, especially by working at the supermarket with her that fall. nothing seemed to get any better.
that is, until he landed his job at the cafe.
felix constantly thanked you for helping him out. chan paid him a considerable amount more than what he’d received at the supermarket, which helped him and his mother out greatly. anything would. aside from telling how lovely, smart, witty, and gorgeous you were, felix’s mission in life was to remind you how you’d saved it.
one monday, you entered the storage room on your break to find a sight all too familiar. a handwritten note and small sliver of baked loveliness, all wrapped up in a metaphorical bow of allure and intrigue. nevertheless, however, you were still just as giddy as the first time you’d received one of felix’s treats. suddenly, you felt a finger graze along your shoulder, moving your hair to the side as an arm wrapped itself around your waist. two warm, pillowy lips made contact with your cheek, gently pecking the skin. felix.
you let out a giggle. “is this for me?” you asked, facetiously.
“of course,” he muttered beside your ear, his tone low, entrancing, and chill-inducing. he kissed your cheek again, holding you close and swaying you from side to side. “it’s another brownie. try it,” he suggested as his chin settled upon your shoulder.
you did as he said, biting into the small slice of fudgy goodness. to your surprise, chunks of melted caramel oozed out of the dessert, cutting through the rich chocolatiness of the brownie with a tangy edge. you hummed in satisfaction. “a salted caramel brownie,” you noted, swallowing your bite.
he chuckled. “i figured i’d finally try it out, maybe give some to my mom… do you like it?”
you placed the sweet back into its container and turned around in his arms, wrapping yours around his neck. you smiled. “i love it, lix. thank you.”
he grinned back at you. pulling you closer by the waist, he sealed the space between his lips and yours with a kiss. his lips were always even softer and more captivating than the texture of his confections. sweeter, too.
after his lips left yours, he gazed into your eyes, holding you close. “open the note, love.”
you excitedly spun back around, doing as instructed. opening the crisp white envelope seal and pulling out the folded sheet of paper, you read its contents.
“a caramel kiss
for you, my love.
i can’t give you the world.
but i hope i’m enough.
~ felix”
you paused. you were puzzled. visibly so, you figured, since when you turned around the look on felix’s face shifted.
he took your hand in his, rubbing small circles into the skin with his thumb. he kept his head down as he spoke. “i wish i could do more. i wish i could take you out to nice places, bake you batches of your favorite sweets, get you real gifts…”
a sharp pain struck your heart. “lix…” you murmured. “i don’t need any of those things. and as far as i’m concerned, these are ‘real gifts.’ they come from your heart. that’s as real as it gets.”
“i know, love, but…”
you placed a hand on his cheek, guiding him to look back up at you. “you don’t even have to do this stuff for me. i know that you care.”
he gave you a forced, shy smile. “okay. i’m glad.” he placed his own hand on top of yours, warm fingertips pressing gently against your skin.
Tumblr media
“felix! y/n!” chan called from the kitchen. it was saturday night, and the last of the day’s customers were taking their leave. you were standing by the coffee-makers, in the middle of telling felix about the time you’d bested jeongin in a macchiato-making contest during a breakfast rush.
both of you turned toward the kitchen door, concerned. chan poked his head out. “can you come here a minute?” he looked serious. something was wrong.
nevertheless, the two of you obliged. holding hands, you made your way to the kitchen, led by chan to the cooling racks. “what’s up?” you asked.
chan cleared his throat before shoving his hands into his pockets. “i have reason to believe that one of you, or both, has violated protocol.”
you quickly grew confused. felix’s hand tightened around yours. you glanced at him, noticing how his face flushed pale. “uh…” he stammered.
“early this morning, seungmin pointed out that we’re low on cocoa powder. now, that’s odd, especially considering we had three cans of it yesterday. now we only have two.” you both nodded at him, following along. “...so i took a look at the camera footage.”
felix let go of your hand. “c-cameras?” he stuttered. you were even more confused.
“yeah. the cameras,” chan confirmed, looking felix dead in the eye. “i watched the footage from yesterday. and the day before.”
felix gulped. “you… you did….”
“what the hell is going on?” you asked.
chan let out a bit of a sigh. “y/n. were you aware that felix has been taking ingredients from the kitchen?”
your heart dropped.
you glanced at your boyfriend. he glanced back at you. he then bit his bottom lip, averting his eyes down to the floor. you looked back at chan, calmly answering, “no… i had no idea.”
“is that true?” chan asked.
“yes.” you then turned to felix, face ablaze. “it’s true.”
“then in that case, you can go for the night. i’d like to talk to felix. alone.”
after one last unreciprocated look at your boyfriend, you quickly rummaged through the storage room, collected your things, and left. you stood outside of the cafe, waiting for whatever might happen next. your stomach was doing flips. you couldn’t possibly believe what you’d heard.
minutes elapsed. it felt more like hours. all you could think to do was lean up against a lamp post and watch the gloomy clouds shift overhead. the sun was close to being fully set, casting a deep purple tint over the whole street landscape. and it looked as though it was about to rain.
after what felt like an exorbitantly long time, felix emerged from the shop. the door closed behind him as he bolted down the steps and onto the pavement, that familiar chime sending a chill through you. it sounded almost eerie that night. out of place. taunting.
“lix,” you called. you walked behind him, despite his quickening pace. but he wouldn’t stop or slow down. “lix,” you exclaimed again. no answer. finally, you grabbed his arm, realizing his apron was gone, and shouted, “felix! slow down.”
he scoffed, stopping dead in his tracks. “he fired me.”
you stared at him, blankly. once again, you couldn’t believe it.
“i tried to do something nice, and he fired me.”
“do you think it makes me feel any better?” you asked. “you getting yourself fired so you could make me little brownie experiments?” you paused, taking a deep breath. you were outraged. more so with yourself. you should’ve asked how he was finding the time or the resources to be doing what he was doing. you should’ve known. “i thought you needed this job. when were you gonna tell me you were a thief?”
“a thief?!” felix’s eyes seemed to be bulging out of his head. he was surprised at your verbiage. he’d never seen you upset like this. “y/n, i’m not a thief.” you rolled your eyes. his cheeks flushed crimson. a prickling sensation began around his eyes. a stinging, almost. tears. he looked down at his sneakers. tattered white converse. the same ones he wore every day to work. the same ones on which he’d splattered a few droplets of brownie batter during his latest attempt at making you a gift. now, it just looked like a stain of mud. “i didn’t just take cocoa powder. i took eggs… some milk… a couple cups of flour here and there… my mom got demoted at the restaurant. she works the bar now. she thinks i asked for the stuff. so yeah, i did need this job! i do need it. i just fucked up...” under his breath, trying not to give into the tears that prodded at his eyes, he remarked, “‘little brownie experiments’... that’s all they ever were to you? little brownie experiments...”
you realized what you’d said. of course that’s not all they were to you. they were everything to you. but that isn’t what you’d said. “lix… i-”
“you know what, you’re right,” he muttered, shifting his weight back and forth on his feet, hands clasped behind his back, and eyes rapidly blinking to avoid the inevitable. “they probably weren’t even all that good.”
you took a step closer to him. a drop of water fell onto your shoulder from above. “no.. no, that’s not what i-”
but, as quickly as you approached him, he stepped back. he locked eyes with you once again. his eyes were glossy; tainted with the aftereffects of a broken heart. suddenly, a steady stream of drizzling rain began to fall from the night sky above you. felix’s lip quivered. yet, with a furrowing brow, he continued. “you know what, maybe this was all a mistake.” his voice cracked a bit; frayed at the edges. “maybe i should’ve gotten a different job. at a place that would pay me enough to be able to buy my own shit and pay my mom’s bills.” the rain fell harder now, coating his hair and dragging it down over his face. you didn’t even feel it as it completely drenched you as well.
seeing him like this affected you just as much as your words did him. guilt. the panging, crushing weight of guilt laid heavily upon your heart. “felix…” you whimpered, tears of your own beginning to cloud your line of sight. though, you could still see clear enough to watch him shake his head, turning around and beginning his ascent up the avenue. clear as ever. even despite the pitter-patter of evening gloom.
sopping wet, you marched back into the shop. you ripped off your apron, throwing it down upon the counter. you then walked back behind it to start preparing to close up for the night. all you wanted was to go home.
that is, until you spotted an envelope tucked beside the cappuccino maker.
a creamy white envelope, with your name and a heart inscribed on the back. and a tupperware container. a single teardrop descended from the corner of your eye, resembling the droplets of rain that covered your form. you carefully took hold of the envelope. you gently tore it open, making sure not to rip it, just like you’d done the very first and subsequent times.
“another present
for my love;
my dear y/n,
sent from above.
~ felix”
a drop of rain fell from your hair onto the page, dampening his name. the black ink began to run, the letters seeping into each other.
you could no longer control your tears. you took a seat on the floor, back resting against a leg of the table upon which the coffee makers stood. the metal was cold. but you paid it no mind. with your head on your knees, legs bent and arms wrapped around them, you cried. audibly. you couldn’t believe how you’d spoken to him. you should’ve known that he didn’t have the money to bake you these little presents on his own. you should’ve realized from the moment he confirmed it was him. at least, that’s what you thought to yourself as the tears expelled themselves from your system.
he just wanted to make you something special. yes, he broke the rules. yes, he stole from the cafe. and yes, he knew it was wrong. but he just wanted to make you something special. it was the only way he believed he could. and you wish you’d seen that. not just so you could’ve prevented it, but also so you could’ve appreciated it even more. so you could’ve seen that not only was he working overtime to make you something you might enjoy, but that he was risking his job for you and his mother. it wasn’t a perfect gesture - not by a long shot. but he meant well. he always did. and you didn’t even give him the chance to explain.
you loved him.
after a few moments of solitude, you regained your breath. you sniffled, looking down at the note. you then stood back up, taking hold of the container. its contents looked delicious. but you couldn’t consume it. not even if you’d been hungry. so, you dumped it into the trashcan beside the table. and, with a deep, shaky breath, you ripped up the letter and envelope into tiny pieces. it was a bittersweet feeling, letting go. but you had to do it. and so, home you went.
Tumblr media
a week passed. things never really changed at the cafe once felix left. weeknights were still as slow as ever. maybe even slower. you missed him.
minho emerged from the kitchen one evening to find you wiping down the cappuccino maker with a coffee-stained rag. it was the third time you’d done it that day. twice more than you were getting paid for. and of course he noticed. “how’re you holding up?” he asked.
you barely glanced up at him, busy rubbing the same spot on the metal machine over and over. this stupid stain just wouldn’t budge. each time you’d gone over it that day, you couldn’t seem to make it go away. it plagued your mind, infiltrating your subconscious when you least expected it until you finally decided to go back to it for the second time, then the third. it was a real mood killer. though your mood hadn’t been very lively when the day began, either. “‘m fine,” you replied through gritted teeth, brows angled inward as your focus remained on the task at hand.
“are you?” he questioned, playfully. he leaned on the counter behind you, crossing his arms and watching you scrub. “you’ve been going at it with that thing for hours now. what’d it ever do to y-”
“i’m fine!” you interjected. you then paused, both in speech and action. suddenly, you were aware of how fast you’d been rubbing the machine. as well as how loud your voice had raised itself. you turned around. “...sorry.”
he gave a pitied smile, crossing his arms. “it’s ok. i’m fine,” he replied, mimicking you. it made you chuckle. he was glad it did. “is, uh… is this a bad time to ask you to lock up? i’ve got a.. uh…”
“a date?” you supposed, unfeeling.
he cleared his throat, glancing between you, the clock above you, and his shoes. “yeah,” he confirmed. “with chaeyoung. would you mind?”
“not at all.”
“you sure?” you nodded. “alright… i owe you one… or ten...” he joked, untying his apron.
“no you don’t,” you murmured, eyes drifting to the side. you almost turned back around, heart set on getting to that stain, until you felt his hand on your arm. you glanced at each other for a moment. he looked sad. sorry. he pitied you. and you hated it. yet, as he took you in his arms, wrapping you into a tight, benevolent hug, you became a little less tense. a little less angry. you hugged him back, burying your face into his shoulder. this was the first time you’d ever engaged in such a gesture with your coworker. sure, you were friends. and sure, you’d talked about some deep stuff on nights like these with nothing better to do. but this was different. meaningful. sweet.
after a moment, minho remarked, “you know i miss him too, right?” he sounded mockingly peeved. “he was your boyfriend but he was my friend.”
you looked up at him, confused. “you’re not still friends?”
he chuckled. “no! he’s avoiding me the same way he’s avoiding you.”
laughing with him, you responded, “shit… i’m sorry, minho.”
“you have nothing to apologize for.” he let go of you, hands remaining on your sides for a moment. “you both messed up. it’s not all your fault.” you nodded to him, a reluctant, close-lipped smile upon your face. he glanced up at the clock again before pulling his apron off. “i’ve gotta go. thanks again for locking up, y/n.” he walked past the counter to the front of the store. “i’ll see you tomorrow, yeah?” he added, pointing at you while striding backwards toward the door.
“see you tomorrow,” you replied, waving to him. “have fun.” you still sounded a bit bitter. you couldn’t help it.
“thanks,” he said. the chimes twinkled as the door closed. it haunted you.
and with that, he was gone. nothing but you, your rag, and that unnerving coffee stain for another half-hour’s time.
you heard the opening and closing of the door behind you once again. with a sigh, not even bothering to turn around, you blurted, “we’re about to lock up for the night.”
no response. odd. maybe they didn’t hear you. you tried again, raising your voice a bit but continuing your attempts to clear up the stain all the while. “i apologize, but we’re closed for the night-”
“one salted caramel brownie, please.”
a familiar voice. a familiar, low-toned, nostalgia-inducing voice. the voice that, at one time, softened for you… close enough to your ear to make your stomach tie itself in knots. the voice that made you giggle, the voice that called you “love”... the voice that cracked when faced with the realization that it was never to be heard by you again. you spun around.
a familiar face, too.
felix.
his eyes gazed into yours. somber, silent.
“y-you...”
“hey.”

- Vincent Van Gogh
The coffee shop was filled with people rushing to get their caffeine fix before work. You turned around and spilled your iced caramel mocha all over a tall, lanky man in an oversized sweater vest behind you.
“Oh, my gosh, I’m so sorry!” you said, rushing to grab napkins. “I am so, so sorry!”
“It’s fine,” the man assured you, taking the napkins you offered him. “I probably would have spilled coffee on myself at work today anyway.”
“Still, I’m so sorry. I-I have uh, an interview today and I’m seeing my dad for the first time in a while so I’m pretty nervous, and when I get nervous, I get super clumsy.” You awkwardly held your hand out to him. “I’m (Y/N).”
“Spencer,” he said. “Sorry, I have a, uh, germ thing.”
“Let me buy you your coffee,” you offered. “It’s the least I can do after spilling mine all over you.”
~
Spencer ran through the bullpen up to the conference room. He threw his satchel down on the floor next to his chair before flopping into it.
“You’re late,” Hotch said, not looking up from the paper in front of him.
“I know,” Spencer said, breathlessly. “I know, I’m sorry.”
“Well, now that you’re here, we can get started.”
The team, of course, noticed the change in Spencer’s behavior. Morgan decided to be the one to ask about it.
“Okay, what’s her name?” he asked, rolling his chair over to Reid’s desk.
“What are you talking about?”
“You haven’t stopped smiling all day. Even after Hotch stuck you with more paperwork and told us we’d have to stay late tonight. So, who is she?”
Spencer smiled down at his desk. “I met her at the coffee shop this morning. Her name’s-”
“(Y/N)!”
Spencer looked up to see you running towards Gideon.
“Dad!”
Spencer’s jaw dropped when he saw Gideon wrap you in a hug. “How are you, Pumpkin? How was the interview?”
“Uh, I’m not sure. You know how I get when I’m nervous. And I kept thinking about how I haven’t seen you in years and-”
“(Y/N/N), take a breath. You’re rambling.”
“Right. Right.” You exaggerated your exhale. “I’m good.”
“Come on, let’s go to my office. You can tell me about your interview.”
When you followed Gideon up the stairs, Morgan turned back to Spencer.
“That’s her?” Spencer nodded, still in shock. “Oh, Pretty Boy,” Morgan laughed, “what did you get yourself into?”
Spencer was asking himself that same question.
~
“So, tell me about the job interview. Was it really as bad as you thought?”
“I don’t know,” you sighed. “I got all nervous and jumpy, my hands were all sweaty. You know how I get when I’m nervous. I walked into a scarecrow decoration they had in the hallway.” Your father pursed his lips, obviously trying to hold back a laugh. You sighed. “Go ahead.”
“What? No, I’m not laughing!”
“Dad, I love you, but you’re a terrible liar.”
“Come on,” he said, getting up from his desk, still chuckling. “I’ll introduce you to the team.”
You followed your father out of his office. The team was gathered in the bullpen.
“Guys, this is my daughter, (Y/N) Gideon.”
“It’s nice to see you again, (Y/N),” Aaron Hotchner said, shaking your hand.
“You too, Aaron.”
“This is Agent Jareau,” Gideon said, gesturing to JJ. “And Agent Morgan.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” the man said, shaking your hand.
“This is Agent Greenaway,” Gideon said, introducing you to the rest of the team. “Dr. Reid, and Penelope Garcia, our technical analyst.”
“So, what was it like growing up as Gideon’s daughter?” Penelope asked you.
“Oh, you know, it was like any other girl growing up with an overprotective father,” you said. “I was in self-defense classes since I was 3, I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere alone until I was 17, my older brother hogged the bathroom in the morning, and when I started dating, I couldn’t go out with a guy until Dad profiled him.”
“Ooh, that’s rough,” Agent Greenaway said. “How did you deal with that?”
You shrugged. “I was a teenager, and Dad was almost always away for work.” Your dad looked at you. “I mean, I was a perfect angel who never did anything wrong.”
“Yeah, nice try, kiddo,” Gideon said. “We’re gonna talk about that at dinner. Speaking of which, ready to go?”
“Sure, I haven’t eaten all day.”
After you and Gideon left, Morgan turned to Reid.
“So, Gideon’s daughter.”
“Shut up, Morgan,” Spencer muttered, his face red.
~
When Jason came back from his last case, he noticed that you weren’t there. You’d been staying with him until you heard more about the job. Jason thought for a moment before smiling to himself and heading back out.
“Thought I might find you here,” Jason said, sitting next to you on the grass.
You were sitting in front of a gravestone, a vase of fresh flowers on the grass. You brushed your hand over the lettering on the marker. ”I got the job.”
“Well, that’s great!”
“I guess,” you shrugged. “Is it- is it weird that I feel guilty if I don’t visit when I’m in the area?” You smiled, tracing your finger over the name. “I feel like, if I don’t visit, Mom’s yelling at me from beyond.”
Jason smiled. “It’s not weird at all. Especially since you were so young when we lost her.”
You sighed, letting your hand fall back to your side. “Do you think she’s proud of me?”
Jason was shocked by your question. “Of course she is,” he told you. “She’d be so proud of you, pumpkin.”
“Even though I broke my promise to her?” you whispered. “I promised I’d find a cure so no one would have to suffer like she did.”
“(Y/N),” your father sighed, “you were barely 15 when she died. She never expected you to keep that promise.” He nudged your shoulder. “Besides, she’d love that you’re dedicating your life to teaching kids.”
“You think so?”
“I know so. I’m your dad, I know everything.”
You laughed, leaning your head on his shoulder.
~
You settled into the DC area well. You’d become best friends with Penelope Garcia, and you grew closer to the rest of your dad’s team. Even though you weren’t part of the BAU, you were family.
You grew even closer to Spencer, too. Penelope, despite not being a profiler, could tell there was something up. She noticed the glances you’d give him when he wasn’t looking, and vice-versa.
“So, what’s going on with you and Reid?” she asked you over your Saturday morning coffees.
“What are you talking about, Pen?”
“Oh, come on! I see the way you look at him.”
“Wha- the way I look at him?”
“Yeah, you look at him like you’re ready to have his babies.”
“ Penelope! ”
~
The team was in Florida, getting deathbed interviews from Sarah Jean and Jacob Dawes. Gideon was sent in to interview Sarah Jean.
“Do you have children, Agent Gideon?” she asked him.
“It’s irrelevant,” he told her.
“Is it?”
While Hotch interviewed Jacob, Gideon and Reid were looking over the interview with Sarah Jean, looking for anything that might grant her a stay of execution. After some discussion with the team, Gideon headed back in to talk to Sarah Jean.
“Does the strain of your work affect your marriage?” Sarah Jean asked him.
“I’m not married.”
“You wear a ring.”
Jason rubbed the wedding band he still wore with his thumb. “Why would you still be protecting Jacob?” he decided to ask.
“Did you divorce because of putting people like me away?”
“I think you’re innocent,” Jason told her.
“We’re all guilty of something. But it’s… our children who suffer for our sins, isn’t it?”
“You’d have to ask them.”
“How old are they?” she asked.
“27 and 24,” Jason said with a smile.
Sarah Jean smiled. “Do you have pictures of them?” she asked.
“In my office. One of my son, one of my daughter.”
“You don’t carry them with you?”
“No.”
“To protect them. Tell me, Agent Gideon, does this job make you worry about your daughter?”
He nodded. “Every day.”
“Is there anything you wouldn’t do for your children, Agent Gideon?”
He shook his head. “Absolutely nothing.”
~
Spencer was pouring sugar into his coffee when he heard you and Garcia laughing. He turned to see the two of you talking in the doorway.
“Oh, before I forget to ask,” you said, “can you come in on Wednesday as a guest reader?”
“I’d love to!” Penelope said. “I’d love to read to those little angels!”
You smiled and adjusted the bag on your shoulder. “Great! I’ll see you tomorrow morning for coffee?”
“Of course.”
You waved towards Gideon’s office before ducking out of the BAU.
Elle came up to the coffee maker and poured herself a mug. “Why don’t you just ask her out?”
“I can’t do that,” he said, sipping his overly-sweetened coffee.
“Why not? It’s obvious you like her.”
“She’s Gideon’s daughter , Elle. I can’t ask her out.”
“Oh, I get it,” she said, stirring milk into her coffee. “You’re afraid Gideon wouldn’t approve of you dating his little girl.” She tossed the coffee stir into the trash and took a sip of her coffee. “If it’s any consolation, I think if he were to approve of anyone for (Y/N), it would be you.”
“You think?”
“The man loves you, Reid,” she told him. “Plus, you’re just as awkward and dorky as she is, you’re a good match.”
~
Spencer sat at his desk, with only his lamp to light the bullpen. A tabloid magazine sat on top of his case file.
“Hey Reid, you’re lucky they didn’t get a shot of you next to the pool trying to draw your gun. You looked like a drowned rat,” Morgan laughed.
Spencer chewed his lip for a moment. “Did you know that, um, she, uh- I kissed her? In the pool? It’s so weird. It doesn’t even feel like it really happened, you know?”
“Sure. She’s a beautiful young actress.”
“Yeah, but…” he paused, looking at the cover of the magazine, “it didn’t feel right. I felt guilty, almost. I felt like I was crossing professional boundaries.”
“Look, some things you can’t control, even with that big ol’ brain of yours,” Morgan told him with a smile.
Spencer was silent while Morgan put on his jacket. “Hey Morgan? Has there ever been a girl you just… couldn’t get out of your mind, no matter how hard you try? Even when another girl is kissing you?”
“I can’t say I have,” Morgan said. “But if this girl is so heavy on your mind, you should see where it goes.”
“So, you think I should call her?”
“I don’t know, Reid. But I do know you don’t have to decide tonight. I’ll see you Monday, okay, kid?”
“Yeah. Have a good weekend, Morgan.” He sat at his desk, looking at the tabloid. He sighed and threw the magazine in his trash can.
~
Of course, you’d seen the tabloids. You were out grocery shopping when you saw the pictures. You picked up the magazine and scoffed.
“It’s crazy how they invade celebrities’ lives, isn’t it?” the old woman in line behind you said. “That poor boy was probably just at the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“Yeah,” you said, putting the tabloid back on the rack. “It’s crazy.”
The next day at work, one of your coworkers came up to you while you were cleaning paint off the tables.
“So, should we talk about how your boyfriend is supposedly dating a tv star?”
Your face heated up. “He’s not my boyfriend, Hannah. He’s my dad’s coworker.” You heard one of the kids start crying. “Oh, Joshie’s crying again. Maybe you should go find out what happened.”
When the last kid was finally picked up by his grandmother, you were exhausted. But you still had to clean up the classroom. You sighed and started picking up the pretend food and sorting it into the proper baskets.
“Night, (Y/N),” your coworker said.
“Night, Ronnie. See you tomorrow.” You hung the costumes back on the hangers and put them back on the rack when someone knocked on the door. When you looked up, you saw Spencer standing in the doorway, his hands fidgeting.
“Oh, hey, it’s Lila Archer’s secret boyfriend!” you said, pushing up from the floor.
“Please tell me you didn’t buy into those pictures.”
“Well, you know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.”
He walked over to where you were gathering stuffed animals and helped you collect them. “It wasn’t what they made it look like,” he said. “She was attracted to me, but it was just transference.” He rubbed the back of his hand, his eyes looking down at the roadmap carpet. “And she isn’t the girl I like.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. Lila didn’t make my heart rate speed up just by smiling at me like she does.” Spencer’s eyes were shining as he talked.
“What else do you like about this girl?” you asked him.
“She’s smart, she’s caring, she listens to me when I ramble on about random facts.” He smiled and looked at you. “She’s one of the only people in the world that calls me Spence. And she’s super clumsy when she gets nervous.” He shoved his hands in his pockets. “You’re the one I want to be with (Y/N). You’re the one I can’t stop thinking about.”
“Damn, girl, if you don’t take him, I will!” Hannah said from the doorway, making you both blush.
“Go home, Hannah,” you said.
“Okay, okay, I’m just saying.”
Spencer chuckled, looking down at his Converse.
“You know, I like you too, Spence.”
Spencer’s face lit up. He grabbed the sides of your face and kissed you. When he pulled away, his face was red.
“I-I’m sorry, I don’t know what I was thin-”
“Spencer, shut up,” you said, grabbing his tie and pulling him in to kiss you again.
~
“Guys, conference room. Now,” Hotch said, walking through the bullpen.
Morgan pushed up from his desk, walking up the stairs next to Garcia. “Is it just me, or has Reid been weird around Gideon today?”
“Oh, no, he is,” she said. “He and (Y/N) kissed last night.”
“Wait, so Reid and (Y/N) kissed?”
“Yep.”
“And Gideon doesn’t know?”
“Nope.”
“So everything he’s saying is making Reid uncomfortable?”
“Yep.”
“Should we exploit this?”
“Definitely.”
After everyone settled into the room, JJ started her presentation of the case, with the help of Gideon and Hotch.
“Uh, Gideon,” Morgan said, “When the plane kisses down on the air strip, do you want me to go to the scene with you?”
Spencer’s eyes widened as Gideon looked over Morgan. “Uh, weird way to ask that, but yeah. You, me, and Reid will visit the scene.”
“Do you think we can make out any information from the victims?” Garcia asked.
“Guys, what’s going on?” Hotch asked.
“Nothing!” Spencer said. “Can we just get to the jet?”
Hotch eyed Spencer suspiciously before saying, “Wheels up in 30.”
~
You’d heard about Elle, of course. You’d heard about her injury, investigation, and resignation. Spencer was shaken up about her leaving.
The team was bunkered down at the office when you stopped in with some coffees.
“Excuse me,” you said to the dark-haired woman standing by the printer, “is Agent Gideon in?”
“Yeah, were you meeting with him for this case?”
You laughed. “No. No, I’m his daughter. I’m (Y/N).” You shifted the coffee in your hands to shake hers.
“Emily Prentiss.”
“Oh, you’re the new agent. Dad mentioned there was a new transfer.”
“Well, he should be up in his office,” Agent Prentiss told you.
“Thank you, Agent Prentiss.”
“Please, call me Emily.”
You smiled before climbing the steps to your father’s office. You knocked on the door, waiting for him to answer.
“Come in.” You pushed the door open to find your dad at his desk, his glasses perched on his nose as he filled out paperwork.
“I brought you a coffee,” you said, setting the cup on his desk.
“Thank you,” he said, pulling the hot cup closer to him.
“And I made you some meals for when I go away.”
“(Y/N), you didn’t have to-”
“Dad, you know what the doctor said. Your blood pressure is way too high, and I know you won’t stop this job. The least you can do is stop eating so much takeout.”
“(Y/N)-”
“Dad, I’m serious. I don’t want you dying before you have the chance to walk me down the aisle. At least eat them when you’re home?”
He sighed. “Okay. Alright. What time does your flight leave again?”
“Five in the morning,” you said.
“You’ll call me when you land?”
“Of course, Dad,” you promised.
“Good. Tell Miranda I say congratulations.”
“I will,” you said. “I’m gonna go deliver these coffees to Penelope and Spencer.” You walked out of his office, closing the door behind you. You walked into the BatCave, setting the mocha frappuccino on her desk. “Last coffee before I go to Maine,” you said, sitting in Penelope’s spare chair.
“You better show me those wedding pictures, you know I love weddings,” she said, sipping her coffee. “Are you gonna talk to Reid before you go?”
“Sure, I have to give him his coffee.”
“No, (Y/N), are you going to talk to him about the kiss? It’s been months and you two still haven’t talked about it.”
“Hey, it’s not my fault you guys are always on a case.”
“Garcia, conference room,” JJ said, poking her head into the office.
“Speaking of,” you sighed. “I’ll see you when I get back, Pen.”
Before you left the BAU, you left Spencer’s coffee on his desk, a sticky note with a smiley face on top of the lid.
~
“ Hey, Dad, it’s me, ” you said on your message to Jason, “ I got sent straight to voicemail so I’m guessing that means you’re on the jet. I’m just calling to let you know my flight got delayed. There’s a huge storm so the plane is grounded until it’s over. I’ll be home as soon as I can. Love you, bye. ”
“You okay?” Hotch asked when Gideon slipped his phone back into his pocket.
“Yeah. (Y/N) just left a message, apparently it’s storming so her flight is delayed.” He rubbed the bridge of his nose. “Are we any closer to finding Reid?”
“No. But Garcia found a way for us to get a video to him . We can let him know we’re looking for him.”
~
Spencer was struggling. He could feel the little glass bottles in his pocket, and he was itching for them.
“Hey, Spence!” you said, your bubbly voice shocking him as you set a cup of coffee on his desk.
“What’s this?”
“Dad said the last couple of cases were hard on you guys, I thought you might want a pick-me-up.”
He pushed the coffee towards the back of his desk. “I’m fine.”
“Spencer, what’s going on? You never turn down free coffee from Winnifred’s. Are you feeling okay?”
“I’m fine, okay?” he snapped. “Just leave me alone.”
When he saw your face, he knew he fucked up. “Fine. When the Spencer I know gets back, let me know. Goodbye, Dr. Reid.” You walked out of the BAU, brushing passed Hotch and Morgan as they came from the break room.
“What was that about?” Morgan asked.
“Nothing,” Spencer said, pushing up from his desk and walking away from the two.
When you hadn’t visited the office for a few weeks, the team knew something was off. While Morgan talked to Reid, Gideon went to your apartment to talk to you.
“Hey, Dad,” you said when you opened the door. “What’s up?”
“I was gonna ask you the same thing,” he said. “You haven’t visited in weeks.”
“I’ve been busy,” you said, getting a bottle of water and offering it to your father. “Mack wants me to get my Masters, she said I’d be a good academic director.”
“That’s not the reason,” he said, taking a sip of the water. “What happened between you and Reid?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Come on, (Y/N), I’m your dad. I know you have feelings for each other.” Your face turned red and you looked down at your feet. “You’re a grown woman, (Y/N). You don’t need my permission to date anymore. But if you do want my opinion, I think you and Spencer would be a great match.”
“You think?”
“Yeah, I do. Now, what happened?”
You sighed, flopping onto your old, worn out couch. “You’d all been so busy lately, so I decided to bring him coffee from our favorite shop. But he was, he was acting different . And not a good different. When I tried asking him what was wrong, he got all defensive and he lashed out at me. So I told him that when the Spencer I know gets back, he could let me know.”
“Well, I’m not sure that’s going to happen,” Jason said.
“What do you mean?”
Your father sighed, setting the bottle on the old trunk you used as a coffee table. “On one of our cases, he got kidnapped.”
“Oh, my god,” you said, covering your mouth with your hand. “Oh, Spence. No wonder he was different.”
“He needs you to be there for him, even if he doesn’t think he does.” Jason’s phone started ringing. He sighed when he saw the caller ID. “I gotta go. Oh, but before I forget,” he pulled a disk out of his jacket and handed it to you, “happy birthday.”
“What’s this?”
“I don’t know how long this case is gonna be, I might not be home in time for your birthday. Just watch the DVD.” He kissed your forehead before heading out the door.
~
You were curled up on your couch, wrapped in blankets as you rewatched the DVD again. It was all the home movies your family ever filmed from your childhood. You were tearing up as you watched your mom push you on the swings.
“Higher! Higher, Mommy, higher!”
“Hold on tight!”
There was a knock at your door. You paused the video and untangled yourself from your nest of blankets. You peered through the peephole and saw Spencer standing outside, his hands behind his back. You undid the deadbolt and opened the door.
“Spencer-”
“(Y/N), I’m sorry.” He brought his hands back around, showing you a bouquet of flowers- all your favorites. “I shouldn’t have yelled at you like that, I was out of line. I-I wasn’t in my right mind and-”
“Spencer, breathe.” You motioned for him to come in. He handed you the flowers. “Dad told me what happened in Atlanta.”
He rubbed the back of his neck. “He didn’t tell you everything.”
“What do you mean?” You set the flowers on your kitchen counter and sat next to Spencer on your couch.
“Promise me you won’t blow up and get angry.”
“Spence, what’s going on?”
He took a deep breath. “When I was kidnapped, the unsub injected me with dilaudid. It was meant to keep me passive and subdued.”
“And now you’re addicted, aren’t you?” you realized. “Oh, Spencer.”
“I’m getting help,” he assured you. “Gideon kind of, uh, talked a little sense into me.” His hands were fidgeting. “I, I didn’t want to tell you because I thought you might, I don’t know. I thought you might not like me anymore.”
You took his hand in yours. “Spencer, I knew I liked you when I spilled my coffee on you and you didn’t freak out on me. Then I got to know you, and your kind, gentle heart. I don’t think I could ever stop liking you.”
Spencer’s smile came back. His real smile. He turned his head to the tv. “Is that your mom?”
“Yeah,” you said, a sad smile on your face as you hit play.
“You don’t talk about her much.”
“She died when I was in high school,” you said. “After she died, my uncle took over recording family videos when Dad was off on cases.”
“You look just like her,” Spencer told you. “Wait, what’s this one?” he asked.
The camera was pointed at a stage, lights coming up on apartment buildings.
“Oh, this is from when I did Little Shop of Horrors !” you said. “I played Audrey.”
“Wow, really?” He cleared his throat. “I-I don’t mean I think you can’t do it, I just meant I can’t see you letting a man treat you like that.”
You shrugged. “Acting, Spence.”
He laughed and you leaned against him. His face turned pink, but he wrapped his arm around your shoulders. He kissed the top of your head.
~
Your dad left the bureau, for good. He dropped off the map, not even telling you where he was going. Spencer was beyond upset. When he found the letter, he showed up at your apartment, tear tracks down his cheeks.
“Spence, what happened?” You took his hand and gently pulled him inside. “Spencer?” He handed you the letter as the two of you sat on the couch. “Oh, Spencer.”
“He left. He left us. Without even saying goodbye.”
“I’m sorry, Spence.” You wrapped your arms around him and he rested his head on your shoulder. “I know how you’re feeling. I can’t tell you the number of times I expected Dad to be at something, and he wasn’t there. It got to the point where I was surprised if he did show up.”
“How did you deal with that?” Spencer asked you.
You shrugged. “I guess, I just… focused on who was there for me.”
~
Spencer woke up the next morning to his phone blaring. He was disoriented, and didn’t quite recognize his surroundings. Until he looked to his left and saw you laying next to him.
You sat up and rubbed your eyes. “Is that the team?” you asked, your voice still rough from sleep.
“Yeah,” Spencer sighed.
“Go. They need you.”
“But-”
“Spence.” You cupped his face in your hands. “I’ll be here when you get back. I promise.” You kissed him and pressed your forehead to his. “Go save the world, my genius.”

Read on AO3
Winters were harsh in the town of Arendelle. Anna was almost certain that was Elsa’s doing. Her sister loved to experiment with her ice spells. Elsa had even gotten so powerful that she didn’t even need a wand to cast them. But sometimes her elder sister’s exploration of her abilities went arie and sent Arendelle into another harsh cold snap without any warning. The citizens made jokes about it, often joshing about how you never really knew what the weather forecast would be in their town. But Anna knew the truth…
Anna was quite the opposite of her sister. While Elsa liked to cast spells and conjure snow, Anna took the potions approach. She wasn’t sure what it was about finding the right ingredients to mix the perfect spell that excited her so much, but it did. That’s why Anna decided to take a job at the local coffee shop since she loved to mix together concoctions so much.
Besides, she loved coffee.
It was during the end of October that the chill set over the town. Often there’d be more and more patrons coming in for warm pumpkin spiced lattes or even skipping ahead a holiday to the peppermint mochas. Anna could understand--she was a sucker for any type of warm cinnamon flavors herself.
And most of her coworkers--Ryder and Honeymaren--were in agreement with that. But Kristoff… that man’s taste in coffee was atrocious. He liked it black. Hardly any sugar. Despised when anyone put vanilla in his drink.
Anna thought he couldn’t be human… and she wasn’t even one.
While working at the coffee shop, she’d met a lot of valuable customers. She often had regulars who’d ask how her day was going but there was always one that stood out amongst the rest: Hans.
The gingered haired man always flashed her a winning smile, complimented her appearance, and just made her weak at the knees. Anna had never had a boyfriend before. She’d always been more shy around boys. Besides, their parents had kept them pretty sheltered from people because of their abilities they’d inherited from their mother. When their parents died, Anna and Elsa had to make it on their own. So, she’d never really had a real chance at romance.
Hans at a table, sipping at the coffee she’d made him. Anna hummed dreamily, leaning on her palms as she rested her elbows onto the counter. She couldn’t help but be entranced by him.
The sound of someone clearing their throat made her jump.
Anna looked up at Kristoff with a yelp. “What?” she hissed.
The blond smirked. “You got a little drool…” he motioned to the corner of this mouth.
Humiliation flashed through her, only when she reached up to her own mouth, she found it dry. Ugh! Why was Kristoff like this!? Always joking and teasing her…
He barked a laugh at her reaction as she pouted up at him. “C’mon, Anna, if you’re going to thirst after customers I’m going to give you a hard time about it.”
She scoffed. “But why?”
Kristoff rolled his eyes at that. “Because you don’t even know him?”
“Of course, I do!”
Giving her a flat look, the blond leaned onto the counter. “What’s his last name?”
“Uh.. it starts with a W.”
“Eye color?”
“Dreamy, obviously.”
“Best friend’s name?”
“Probably John.”
Kristoff snorted. “Anna, seriously? How do you even know he likes you? How can you be so hung up on a guy who doesn’t even know your name?”
“Sure, he does! I have a nametag!”
“Bet he’ll pronounce it wrong.”
Kristoff shook his head with a sigh. “Honestly, Anna, you’re a witch … don’t you think you could do better than that guy?”
Hushing him, she glanced around. “Keep your voice down! Jeez!”
Ever since Kristoff caught her doing magic and she had to explain to him that yes , she was a witch and they did exist, he’d agreed to keep her secret. But somehow… she thought it made him more protective of her ever since he’d found out. While she appreciated the sentiment, she didn’t get why he made such a big deal out of things.
He patted her head. “I’m just trying to look after the most magical girl I know,” he said with a grin.
Anna groaned, pushing off the counter, ignoring the flush rising on her cheeks at his complement. “What are you? A love expert?”
“Well, no. But I bet I know more about love than you do.”
With a harumph, she crossed her arms and shot the blond a sour glance. “Fine. We’ll see about that.”
  Anna intended to prove Kristoff wrong. She’d show him! When she arrived home from work, she pulled on her cloak and stomped down to the basement. Elsa appeared surprised to see her sister stomping over towards the caldron.
“Anna?”
She hadn’t been trying to ignore her sister. But she was just so hung up in her own thoughts. Anna couldn’t believe how negative Kristoff was being about her love life. She’d never heard of him talk about a girlfriend! Only his interest in fixing cars and his dog, Sven. Which Anna did find interesting, of course, because Kristoff was her friend despite it all.
Anna quickly flipped through her spellbook, probably too aggressively, as she muttered to herself. All she wanted was for someone to love her… in a romantic way, that is.
“Anna, what’re you doing?”
She didn’t even look up when Elsa spoke, continuing to glance through the pages. “Looking for a love potion recipe… ah-ha! ‘Lover’s Brew’ that’s it!”
Elsa sighed, pinching her brow. “Why are you looking for a love spell?”
“So that I can prove to Kristoff that Hans likes me!”
“By casting a spell? Isn’t that cheating?”
Scoffing, Anna shook her head. “Of course not,” she replied with a wave of her hand.
Elsa shook her head with a knowing smile. “Just… please be careful. Taking a love potion into work seems a bit risky.”
Anna had already begun the process of scouring through their shelves to find the ingredients she needed. She stacked the bottles into her arms before laughing at her sister’s doubts. “Oh, please, Elsa… I’ll be completely careful--ooh!” she nearly dropped her essence of frog, but was able to regain her balance to catch it. That would’ve been a nasty mess to clean up. Essence of frog smelled awful.
The grimace on her elder sister’s face spoke volumes, but Elsa was completely used to her sibling’s antics at this point. So, she just left Anna to it and crossed the room back to her own spells. But Anna noticed the occasional glance of Elsa checking on her.
Anna followed the directions of the spell word for word. Pouring in each ingredient with precision, sprinkling the powders, and stirring with her wooden spoon. She winced when she had to yank out a strand of her hair so the potion would have a specific love interest. Usually with potions she was able to do a test run… but there wasn’t any way to test this love spell. So… she’d just have to hope for the best. Luckily, she’d check and there weren’t any that were detrimental. The spell would only last twelve hours unless made permanent with true love’s kiss.
Perfect.
  Anna smuggled the potion into work in her pocket. The day was normal… except for the anxiety egging at her chest knowing what her ill conceived plan was. This was a bad idea. She knew it was a bad idea to force someone to fall in love. Besides, she only had the next twelve hours to kiss Hans so he’d be permanently in love with her. And then they could get married and live happily ever after, right?
When Has approached the counter at his usual time, Anna felt her heart flutter. Today was the day. This man she’d been pining after for so long… she could finally have him. But Hans didn’t seem to be his usual self. He wore a frown and as he scrolled through his phone.
“Hello, good morning,” Anna began in her practiced chipper tone. “Would you like your usual?”
With a sigh of annoyance, Hans glanced up from his phone. “Not today. Just large, black with two sugars.”
Huh. Interesting. That was Kristoff’s usual. She’d always called him plain and shamed him for it, but if Hans liked that too… maybe she’d been too hard on her coworker.
“Yes sir, coming right up,” she chimed.
Hans was looking down at his phone again only giving a hum in response before moving to the side to wait for his order. Anna went to work preparing the order. It wouldn’t take long to do such a simple drink. Or it shouldn’t have, at least. Anna sprinkled in the two sugars before glancing around to make sure no one was around. She took the vile out of her pocket and quickly poured it into Hans’ drink.
“What’re you doing?”
She yelped. “Jesus Christ, Kristoff! Will you stop doing that?”
His scowl only remained as he crossed his arms. “What’d you just pour in there?”
“J-Just some sweetener that I made.”
Kristoff glared at her. “And you just happened to want to test it on that guy? To what? See if he likes it?”
“W-Well, yeah! If he thinks this is the best coffee he’s ever tasted then maybe he’ll like me, right?”
“Anna…” he pursed his lips looking between the drink and her face. “That’s a love potion, isn’t it?”
Anna sputtered, rearing back. She hated how easily Kristoff could figure her out! How did he do that!? “Psht! What?? No! Of course not. That’d be entirely unethical and--”
“Yoo hoo! Anna!” Oaken called from his office. “Can I speak to you for a moment?”
Dread washed over her as she looked between her boss and the coffee. Kristoff seemed to reluctantly take the cup. “Go. I’ll give it to him.”
Blinking, Anna stared up at him. “Really?”
“Yeah. I’ll do it.”
  After her meeting with Oaken (about maybe becoming assistant manager with Kristoff which was mind boggling!), Anna practically skipped out of the office. She looked over at Hans and noticed him sitting in his usual place. He would have to drink most of the cup for the potion to take effect, so she’d just have to wait until he threw the cup away.
She looked around for Kristoff to check with him if he gave the drink to Hans, but she couldn’t find the blond anywhere. It worried her a bit… Had he not given him the cup? Surely, Kristoff wouldn’t lie to her.
But she didn’t have time to think about it. When she saw Hans throw away his--hopefully empty--coffee cup, it was time for Anna to strike. It would take five minutes for the potion to take effect. So, she kept her eyes on the clock as Hans scrolled through his phone at the table. Anna stalked over there as soon as she could. Smiling sweetly at him as she walked up.
“Uh, hi,” she said.
Hans gave her a once over. “You made that first cup of coffee, right?”
First cup…?
“U-Um, yes.”
He glared up at her. “It was absolutely awful. I made your broody manager drink it to prove a point.”
Blinking, Anna gaped. “You--You what? ”
Hans scoffed. With each annoyed look that graced his features, Anna felt her heart chipping in her chest.
“The coffee you made was bad. It had an awful after taste. I didn’t know it was possible to mess up black coffee, but you did.”
Anna’s fists balled at her sides. “Are you this rude to everyone? ”
Hans balked. “ Rude? Please, you’re the one who can’t make coffee correctly. It’s a shame really… and here I thought you were cute. But it’s true, pretty girls are always dim.”
The slap rang out through the coffee shop. She hadn’t meant to… Hans seemed surprised, jaw ajar as he gaped. There was already a red mark on his cheek. Anna knew as soon as she got home… she was putting a curse on his ass. She couldn’t believe this was the guy she’d been fawning over for two months.
Honeymaren and Ryder were there in an instant. Honeymaren grabbed Anna by the arm and started to tug her backwards away from the man. “Come with me, Anna,” she said quietly.
Ryder assisted Hans out the door, where the ginger haired man shouted profanities and flailed wildly outside the door as her coworker did his best to defuse him.
Anger fueled through her. Anna’s chest was tight as Honeymaren led her into the break room. Well, that’s where Kristoff had been hiding apparently. The blond seemed stunned to see her being dragged in by their coworker.
Honeymaren sighed as she led Anna to the couch. “What happened?”
“He called me dumb,” she blurted out.
Pursing her lips, Honeymaren nodded. “Okay… I’ll start on damage control. We’ll talk in a bit. You two just--relax a bit.”
Anna heard her grumble something about how weird this day was as she headed out the door. When Anna looked up, Kristoff’s cheeks were pink when he stared at her.
“You drank it, huh?” she asked.
“He made me.”
She tilted her head. “What do you mean?”
Letting out a sigh, he looked away from her. “He threatened to go to Oaken. Apparently, his father knows him. Told me he’d have you fired for making such a disgusting drink. I reminded him that you’ve made all of his drinks before and never had a problem, but he didn’t care. He told me if I drank the whole thing--because he had to taste it and someone else should to--that he’d let it go. Ugh, what an ass.”
“I’m so sorry, Kristoff. I’m so dumb… This is entirely my fault. I-I’ll have to fix it.”
“Fix it?”
“Well, Oaken just offered me a promotion and then I went and slapped a customer. I guess a memory wiping spell would be best.”
“Ah… I think Oaken would understand. If he knows Hans’ father, I’m sure he knows what kind of man he is.”
Anna just smiled in response, unsure if she actually believed that. But the way Kristoff was staring at her made her heart leap into her throat. Fiddling with her thumbs, she glanced up at him shyly. “A-Are you okay?”
“I drank a whole love potion that tasted like fish coffee… Not really. All I can think about is how much I want to kiss you--” he blurted before smacking a hand over his mouth.
A blush spread across her cheeks. “Really?”
Kristoff groaned, flopping his head onto the small table. “Yes. And how close I want to be with you. How much I want to hug you and touch you. How happy you make me--and how stupid you make me too. God, I love you.”
An ‘eep’ left her lips. “Kristoff, I-I’m so sorry. It’ll wear off in twelve hours and you won’t feel this way anymore.”
He scoffed in response. “Oh, please. I feel like this every day. It’s just amplified. Maybe, your love potion is more of a truth serum when the person already loves you.”
“Wait, what?”
Kristoff shook his head. “This is bad. I have to get back to work,” he murmured. The blond sat up, eyes making contact with her own. Suddenly, those honey-brown eyes glazed over. A pink hue spread along his cheeks. Locking eyes had apparently distracted him from his mission. She hadn’t meant for this to happen…
He was entranced it seemed as he slowly meandered over towards her. Kristoff sat on the couch beside her. He was staring right at her. “I love you.”
Anna plugged her ears. “Stop. No, you don’t. It’s just the spell.”
Kristoff’s gentle fingers were pulling her hand away from her ear. “No… Anna, I’ve felt like this since I’ve met you. The stupid potion is just making me say it.”
“You--You love me? Even though I’m a witch?”
He snorted. “What difference does that make? You’re Anna. Being a witch doesn’t matter. If anything, it makes you even more special. I had feelings for you before I found out. It didn’t change anything.”
“W-Why didn’t you say it before…?” she asked timidly.
“Because…” he ruffled a hand through his shaggy, blond locks. “I could see how much you really liked that guy. I just knew you’d reject me.” His hand was suddenly on her thigh. Anna jumped at the contact. Kristoff grimaced as he yanked his hand away. “Crap, I’m sorry. This spell sucks.”
She wanted to agree. But… she couldn’t. Had she been so focused on her stupid infactuation with Hans that she couldn’t see what was right there in front of her? Kristoff claimed that he had feelings for her before he drank the potion. What if that were true? Had she been friendzoning him? Quietly rejecting him without realizing it?
There were so many wonderful things about Kristoff. She loved hearing about his life… about his big family and Sven. How much he loved fixing cars as a hobby--even offering to help her out for free any time she needed it, despite knowing she could easily afford it. He kept her secret when he found out she was a witch. Granted, he was really freaked out at first, but who wouldn’t be?
Instead of avoiding her, Kristoff was curious and supportive. He asked questions regarding her magic. Wanted to know more about her…
When she was down, Kristoff cheered her up with his jokes, his teasing, his smile…
Oh… She was an idiot.
How had she not realized how much Kristoff meant to her? How his stupid grins made her chest ache. How he sent butterflies fluttering inside her?
Anna chased after his hand, catching his much larger palm in her own. “No, it doesn’t. I’m the one who sucks. I’m so sorry, Kristoff. You’ve been here all this time, and I was too blind to see it. I had no idea of your feelings. And now, I’ve basically forced you to spill them out.”
He gave her a dopey grin. “I’m pretty sure even if I wanted to agree that this is your fault, the spell won’t let me.”
Snorting a laugh, she smiled at him. “Promise me… In twelve hours when this spell wears off, you’ll still say you love me.”
“Only if you say it back.”
She giggled at that before scooting closer. “I can arrange that.”
Kristoff was leaning in, almost unconsciously it seemed. But he paused, leaning back and shaking his head. “Sorry. This is really hard to resist.”
“Good thing I didn’t make the stronger one, huh?”
“There’s a stronger one? ”
Anna nodded. “Mhmm.” her lids drooped as she glanced at his lips and to his eyes.
“I want to kiss you…” he muttered. “May we…?”
“We may…”
Cupping her cheek with his large palm, Kristoff tugged her in. Anna’s eyes fluttered closed as he kissed her. Her heart danced in her chest, pounding wildly against her ribcage. How could she have been a fool to deny this man? His lips were so gentle and soft against her own. His thumb brushed along her cheek. Anna couldn’t help but wind her arms around his shoulders, pulling him closer.
Yeah… she could get used to this.
When she pulled away, her lips barely left his. “We’re probably at about eleven hours, right?”
The breath from his short chuckle teased her skin. “I’d guess so.”
“So, in eleven hours… you’ll tell me you love me and kiss me like this?”
“I promise.”

Hi Mocha! I’ve been thinking about starting an editing blog, and was wondering if you could give me any tips?
Ooh okay! I’ll try my best!
I already made a post like this, but can’t for the life of me find it, so I’ll make a new one!
Make a promo post! Tag so many people, even if you don’t know them. Get your name out there, and don’t think you’re bothering any of us or think you’re annoying us. Most of us are glad to promo new editing blogs
Make example edits! One pet peeve I have is seeing a blog and having no example posts when they first start out. I honestly never requests from blogs like that, it’s puts me off ig? So that’s another one! Also, make sure to create reaction icons before you start, it’s hell to create them on the spot lol.
Find your own editing style! Don’t think you have to edit like every other editor. Don’t use borders for icons if you don’t want to, don’t use filters if you don’t like them. I remember when I was first starting out that I tried to replicate helin-edits editing styles, her and her overlays. It looks beautiful, but for the love of me I could not do it at all. As soon as I stopped trying to edit like others, I took a lot more joy in this blog!
Please please please don’t do an editing contest when you only have 25 -35 followers. Heck, don’t even do it when you have 100! Editing contests rely on your followers to make things for you, and if you don’t have that many followers you’re not gonna get any entires. Best bet is a raffle, but even then don’t make too many prizes if you think you can’t handle them!
It’s okay to have boundaries. Don’t stress about blocking someone, or declining a request. It’s your blog, and if someone or something makes you feel uncomfortable then you shouldn’t keep it around!
Have fun with your followers! It’s always nice to ask questions, and play ask games! I love talking with everyone who stays here with me for some reason, the engagement really makes things better!
That’s all I can think of right now nonnie,,,be sure to send me another ask if you have any more questions!

Wolfstar Chapter 15
A/N: Here’s what you need to know: I created this story for Writer’s Month 2020. Every day is a new prompt, and therefore a new chapter. This is an AU Wolfstar where Remus is a tattoo artist next door to Sirius who manages a flower shop. James and Lily are alive in this universe and own a coffee shop across the street. And to make parts of the story work with the prompts, Remus is about 10 years older than Sirius. It also takes place more or less in present time, minus Covid-19.
This is chapter 15 of a multi-chapter work. If you’d like to start from the beginning, here is chapter 1.
Disclaimer: I don’t own these characters. I just like to play with them.
Day 15 Prompt: Coffee Shop AU

Chapter 15
Remus
Otis Redding, “Cigarettes and Coffee”
But it seemed so natural, darling
That you and I are here
Just talking over cigarettes and drinking coffee, ooh now
Remus awoke on a hard concrete floor. His bones protested as he moved to a seated position. He leaned his back against the bars of the cage and let out an exhausted breath from the effort. Still seated, he Accio’d his wand, and began the arduous task of post-transformation clean-up. Once his skin was delicately pieced back together, he stood and turned around. It was only then he noticed Sirius lying on the ground outside the cage.
He stayed?
With a groan, he swung open the door of his cell.
“Sirius.” He nudged the man on the ground with his toe. “Sirius,” Remus repeated with a shake to his shoulder.
Finally Sirius began to stir. He let out an uncomfortable groan that only comes from sleeping on hard concrete. Unfortunately, Remus knew the sound well. One time he thought a mattress in the cell was a good idea. He had woken up to a destroyed mattress.
Sirius rubbed his hand over his face, then peered up at Remus standing over him. “Morning,” he croaked.
“Morning. How about some coffee?” Remus held his hand out to Sirius.
He grasped the hand, and Remus helped him to a standing position.
“You look like hell, Remus.”
“Tell me something I don’t know.”
~~~~~
After Remus took a shower and changed his clothes, the pair went across the street to the Cafe. Remus ordered the largest Cafe Mocha that James and Lily offered: an enormous mug of hot chocolate, with a shot of espresso, topped with an obscene amount of whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate syrup. Sirius ordered a small black coffee.
Sirius insisted on an outside table today. He chose a seat downwind of Remus, and as he sat down, he pulled out and lit a cigarette. He took a long draw with his eyes closed, then tilted his head back and exhaled so the smoke went behind him. Remus watched his Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed.
Lily showed up with their drink orders. “Everything ok, fellas? Felt like a change of scenery?” She glanced awkwardly between Remus and Sirius.
“Everything is fine, Lily. Thanks. In about twenty minutes you can bring me another one of these.”
“Ok…” Lily raised her eyebrows, but didn’t question them further. She turned and went back into the Cafe.
Remus attempted to appear calm. He sipped his drink and watched his friend closely. Unable to handle the silence any longer he said, “I was bitten when I was young. Most employers are not generous or understanding in dealing with lycanthropes. It worked out to my benefit that I chose to be self-employed and can set working hours around the cycle of the moon.” It all sort of tumbled out at once, like word vomit. Better than actual vomit, that could sometimes happen the morning after. Might still happen anyway.
Sirius remained silent. He put out the butt of his cigarette and took a sip of his coffee. The bitterness caused him to make a face, but he took another sip.
“Sirius,” Remus pleaded, “please say something.”
“What do you want me to say, Remus?” He raised an eyebrow.
The irony of the question was not lost on Remus. Less than forty-eight hours ago, they had stood mere feet from where they were now sitting, and Remus had asked the same of Sirius.
“Fair enough.” Remus was shocked Sirius was sitting here at all. He was surprised when he found him sleeping on the floor outside the cage. Any sane person would have run the moment he transformed.
“Although...” Sirius tapped his fingers on the formica. “...it does explain the name of your place.”
The both looked across the street: ‘Mark of the Wolf, Tattoo Lounge’.
“I thought you were being artsy and deep when you came up with the name. Turns out I was wrong.” He looked back at Remus, and gave a lopsided grin. Sirius leaned forward and rested his elbows on the table. “You were being quite literal.”
Remus chuckled and picked at his fingernails. “Yeah.” He finally looked up and met Sirius’ sparkling eyes. “You’re one to talk though.” Leaning forward and resting his elbows on the table, he glanced across the street at the Flower Loft. “Dog Among the Daisies, Flower Loft. Bit on the nose, don’t you think?”
Sirius threw his hands out to the side and shrugged, before clasping them under his chin. “So we’re both hiding in plain sight. What’s your point?”
“I don’t have a point. Merely pointing it out.”
Lily appeared with Remus’ second Cafe Mocha, and a coffee pot to refill Sirius’ cup.
“Thank you, Lily,” Sirius said.
“One more after this one, Lils,” Remus added, “and some chocolate cake with that one as well. If you have some?”
“Sure thing, Remus.” She smiled and left the men again.
Suddenly, Sirius began chuckling. His shoulders shook and he played with his cup of coffee between his hands.
“What’s so funny?” Remus asked.
Sirius’ eyes were alight when he looked up at Remus. A half smile tugged at his lips. “Uh...good metabolism?” he quoted Remus' words from a few months ago back to him.
“It’s...not an untrue statement.” Remus shrugged.
The heavy weight in Remus' chest dissolved. He hadn’t even realized he’d been carrying it around until it was gone. Knowing Sirius knew about this part of him, and he wasn’t running for the hills, was a positive sign. His lycanthropy wasn’t his only secret, but it was the biggest one. Remus felt  he carried more skeletons than most. More than anything he wanted to be completely open and honest. One thing at a time, he reminded himself.
“So, what sort of work would you have wanted to do if you didn’t have this...furry little problem?” Sirius asked.
Remus snickered. Furry little problem…? He glanced at the building which housed the Potter’s Wheel Cafe. “Well, I actually really wanted to work at Rising Phoenix Roasters when I was younger. See, they hire artists to design magical specialty latte patterns.”
“That sounds cool.”
Remus nodded in agreement. “Still,” he shrugged, “I’ve got the Tattoo Lounge. You know?”
“Do you ever think about what it would have been like to work at Rising Phoenix Roasters?”
“Well…” Remus rested his chin in his hand. “I imagine it might be something like…”
Remus sat in the back room. The ‘Creators Room’ is what the baristas called it. It’s where wizards like Remus designed intricate latte and cappuccino art. The baristas mused that The Creators sole purpose was to torture them with the most complicated patterns imaginable. They were right.
All of the Creators were highly skilled in the pour of a perfect latte. Occasionally one might prove as adept at customer relations as they were in designing, but they were the exception and not the rule. The owners tried to put Remus behind the counter once. It turned into a fiasco. No, he was very happy and content to remain in the Creators Room.
The sounds of porcelain clanking, steamers swishing, and people chittering, along with the smell of espresso brewing, served as the backdrop of his muse. He had been working on this dragon art for the past week. It’s wing flap wasn’t quite right yet, so he pressed on.
His alarm went off, indicating his shift was over. Without the alarm, he would keep working until they shut the lights out on him. It had happened once. Or twice. All things considered, there were worse ways to earn a living.
Sirius looked at Remus in wonder. “Wow,” he whispered. “So why didn’t you just open your own coffee shop?”
“Crowds. Not a fan,” Remus replied. “Plus, like I told you, a tattoo is forever whereas a latte is temporary. You drink it, it’s gone, you forget about it. Besides,” he took a deep breath and looked into Sirius’ eyes, “if I wasn’t a tattoo artist, then I may never have met you.”
He watched Sirius blush and look into his coffee. Then he ran a hand over the back of his head. “This is true,” he said with a smile. “I know you’re not opening up today,” he added with a sigh and a glance at the time, “but I am, and I need to get going.”
“Yeah, you’re probably right.” Remus was sad to see Sirius go, even if it was only across the street. “See you later?”
Sirius stood and reached for his wallet. “Definitely. And Remus, I wasn’t lying before. I really don’t care about your...condition. It’s only one night a month. The other thirty and one-half days you’re totally fine.”
Remus heart soared at these words. “Thanks, Sirius.”
shut up, this is a library
na jaemin x reader
Tumblr media
summary: You work at the school library, which comes with the unfortunate repercussions of having to deal with Na Jaemin, the captain of the soccer team and incredibly gorgeous school flirt who finds fun in teasing you.
Word Count: 2.2K
Warnings: none
Genre: fluff
A/N: this is my last one part story coming out because I have a new series starting soon that I’m v excited for!
The SMU library was located just west of the quad, hard to miss. The building had a domed top, complete with a sun-roof, and every inch of the walls were lined with books. Any kid at the campus had been there more than once to cram for a test, or finish an assignment, or in the cases of some people you knew, get some sleep in order to avoid an annoying roommate.
You were a psychology major, and while that led to a pretty packed schedule, your professor, being absolutely great, never held class on Fridays. So every Friday afternoon, you put on your name tag and went to work at the library, checking out books, helping worried students in a rush to finish a research paper, and finishing up shelving books.
You pushed the thin metal frame of your glasses higher up your nose as you finished loading the cart with newly returned books that had to be shelved. The librarian was taking a sick leave, leaving you with one other worker who was late again. With a good push, the old cart finally moved, just in time as the bell at the front desk rang. Why they had a bell was a real mystery. “Coming,” you called, wheeling the cart out of the back room. “How can I- oh, it’s you again.”
There’s another aspect of this job that’s as predictable as the anxiety-riddled kids and your coworker being late, and that was Na Jaemin, who decided to drop in every week, well, to be more exact, every Friday just to talk you up. He flashes you the smile that you’ve basically memorized based on how many times you’ve seen it, his soccer bag thrown over one shoulder as he leans over the desk. “Hey cutie,”  he winks and you have to physically restrain yourself from throttling him. “Come around here often?” His unapologetically loud tone catches the attention of more than a few people, whose eyes are now trained on the school flirt trying to sweet talk the library worker.
“I work here, dumbass, you’ve seen me here for the past 12 weeks.”
“And I think I speak for both of us when I say it’s been the highlight of our week.” Your eyes practically roll into the back of your head as you walk past him with the cart. “SO I saw you at my game last week. Checking me out on the field?”
“Don’t over-inflate your ego, balloon boy.” He’s incessant, walking along as you shelve books. “I was there with Mina, she has a crush on Jeno, he likes her too, I’m trying to get them together, keep up. Besides, you’re not much to watch on the field.”
“I made 6 goals, gorgeous,” he defends, grabbing the book you’re reaching for and sliding it into it’s place.
“You know, you’d be more help if you actually checked books out. If your cult following saw you at the library, maybe they’d come too. Actually study for once.”
“Ooh, is this you trying to spend more time with me?” He wiggles his eyebrows and you wack him with a book.
“What the fuck, no, why would I want to see more of-” you trail off as you stand on your tippy toes to slide an economics book into it’s place, but it’s just out of reach. Jaemin, chuckling, takes it from you and puts it away with ease. “Beanpole,” you grumble.
“Shortcake.”
“Isn’t this the part of your visit where I reject you and you assure me you’ll win me over before you leave?”
“Usually, but I’m shifting things up a bit, routine is boring. Looks like you need some help shelving all these books and from what it looks like, you’re the only person working here. And you’re- somewhat vertically challenged, unlike me.”
“So what you’re saying,” you sighed, sidestepping him and stepping on your tip toes to slip another book into place. “Is that you serve the same purpose as a step stool?”
“Ha ha, very funny.” He deadpans, grabbing some books from your cart. “Like you said before, sweetheart, my cult following means more business for the library,”
“Okay, so how do I know you won’t just flirt with them as I do all the work?”
“Sugar, you’re the only girl I’m flirting with,” he winks and you roll your eyes, shoving him away. “Come on, I need some sort of reaction from you,” he whines and you clap a hand over his mouth.
“Shut up, this is a library.”
“And I’m flirting with you,”
“Really? I didn’t notice. You’re losing your touch, Na.” But he stays on your heels as you work your way around your library. “Look, you wanna work here? Talk to the librarian when she comes in tomorrow, she goes through potential applicants.”
“And what if I want a date with you?”
“Well I can’t make it too easy for you, now can I? Then it’s just boring.”
“Oh, so you’re admitting you like me?” And suddenly he’s too close, leaning over the other side of the cart with his face centimeters away from yours and the bookshelf pressed against your back. You scoff, looking away as you slip out of the small space. “Deny it all you want, princess, you know you love me.”
“I’d love to kick you in the-”
“Jaemin!” Haechan calls him from the entrance of the library, looking very stressed. “Come on, practice is starting soon!”
“Buzzkill,” Jaemin sighs, but still flashes you the same flirty grin. “You know where to find me, babe.”
“Great, so will the hit man I send after you.” With a roll of his eyes, another wink and a blown kiss, he mimes putting a phone up to his ear and mouthing “call me” before Haechan drags him out of the library, looking very exasperated. You finally allow your face to flush, leaning your forehead against the cold wood of the bookshelf. Na Jaemin, you’re going to be the death of me.
***
The next week, you make your way to the library again, being greeted by the librarian before heading to the back room again. “Hana, how much did you- you’re not Hana.” And suddenly it’s like a bad dream come to life because Na Jaemin’s shoveling book’s onto a cart with a smug smirk you’d like to slap off of his face. “What the fuck are you doing here?” You groan, dropping your bag onto a corner and pinching your arm to make sure this is real.
“Shut up, princess, this is a library,” he mocks, tossing a book at you. “Some girl came in asking for this, she should be still waiting at the desk.”
Sure enough, there’s a girl waiting for her copy of A Tale of Two Cities outside. She smiles slyly at you, leaning over the table as you scan her student ID. “Does Na Jaemin really work here now?”
“Yeah but-”
“Hey babe,” Jaemin pokes his head out. “Give me a hand with these?” The girl’s face drops, automatically pulling an assumption about the two of you as Jaemin grins and your face blushes bright red. You don’t look at her as you hand her the book, whacking Jaemin on the back of the head. “Ow, what did I do?”
“You idiot, she thinks we’re dating!”
“What’s so wrong with that?” He smirks, getting a little too close for comfort as he leans forward over the other side of the cart.
“So many things, just so many things.”
“Come on, I started working here, I can’t be that bad.”
“Is that a question or a statement? Don’t you have soccer practice today?”
“Aww, you pay that much attention to my schedule?”
“What?!” You shove him and he laughs. “No, stop-”
“It’s alright, beautiful, I get it. And no, I moved practice to Thursdays.”
“Just so you could work at the library?” He nods, not giving it much thought. You on the other hand, are starting to turn pink and bury your face into a copy of Milk and Honey as if you’re checking out the bar code.
*** So Na Jaemin is finally starting to not get on your nerves. He gets in earlier than you, and while his flirting hasn’t completely stopped, he has stopped throwing around pet names and asking you out on dates. He does also get a lot of work done, so he’s nice to have around in that aspect, and- okay, maybe you’re starting to like the guy.
“Hey gorgeous,”. He stopped throwing the nicknames around, doesn’t mean he’s stopped using them in entirety. It’s well into February and Jaemin walks in late for the first time, pulling a snow-sprinkled beanie off his head and placing a starbucks cup on the desk in front of you. “For you, keeper of books.”
You roll your eyes, but take a sip. “White chocolate mocha, how’d you-”
“I have my sources,” he winks and takes a sip of his own coffee, which looks like if someone turned the souls of the innocent into liquid. He doesn’t even flinch as he takes a long gulp, and you’re slightly worried for the man. “SO what are we doing today?”
“Well no one’s here so there’s nothing really to do but stamp some of these cards.”
“Some?” He gestures to the large pile of books next to you that still need to be stamped, and you just shrug. “Okay, two people can take this down faster, hand me a book.”
***
“NO! That did not go in!” Jaemin protested. A few hours later and you both had finished stamping the rest of the books. With nothing left to do, you both had turned to a regular game of table football, but you were on the ground, so was it floor football? Ground football? Your mind was racing, probably because after finishing your own drink, you and Jaemin had shared the rest of his, and all that espresso was really making you both giddy.
“It so did!” You roll your eyes and pick up the little paper football, ignoring Jaemin’s outcries. “Which means I’m 2 points ahead of you!”
“Oh yeah, well one last round, winner takes everything,” Jaemin offers, leaning over and daintily plucking the piece of paper from your fingers.
“What are we betting?” You pout, slumping back to the ground and forming a goal as Jaemin lines the football up.
“Okay, we each go twice, and the winner decides what the loser has to do.”
“Fine.” Jaemin positions the football and takes his shot. It clearly passes through your goal, and you wrinkle your nose at him. “Show-off.”
“Just go for it.” Your first one  flies through Jaemin’s goal easily, and his next one does the same. “It’s all on you, L/N,” he teases, passing the football over to you between his thumb and index finger.
Oh god, what was he gonna make you do it you lost? You positioned the football, ready to win and make Na Jaemin do whatever you wanted when-
ding, ding, the bell rung just as you pulled your finger back to flick the ball. You flinched and the football passed to the right, missing the goal by a few inches. Jaemin snorted, pumping his fist up in victory. “no, no no no, the bell rang, that doesn’t count”
“Uh uh, one last round, L/N, we didn’t say any more! I win!” He disappears to answer the bell and you sigh, laying in worry as to what he’s gonna make you do.
When he comes back, you’re getting up. “Hey, hey, where do you think you’re going, we have a bet to handle.”
“Ugh, fine, what do I have to do?” You groan. Cheer for him at all his games, set him up with a friend? Cover your shift all by yourself?
“Go on a date with me.”
“Wait, what?” He smiles, not a smirk or a grin, just a small smile and bends down to your eye level, repeating the words again.
“Go. on. a. date. with. me. tomorrow.”
“You want to go out with me?”
“Thanks for finally noticing,” he laughs. “Come on, I think your opinion of me has raised enough for one date. And if it does bad, I’ll let the whole thing go, forever. I promise.”
What’s stopping you? It’s just one date, anyway, but what scares you is if it becomes more than just one date. “Okay,” you nod, still in shock. “Tomorrow, 6:00, pick me up from my dorm.”
Jaemin laughs again and grabs you by the shoulders, pulling you in for a hug. You smile, and then he catches you off guard by kissing your cheek. “Finally, it took me 6 months to get a date with you! Uh, okay, 6:00, I’ll pick you up, dress casual- yeah, okay. Our shift is over, I gotta go!” Scooping up his bag, he waves one last time before disappearing from the back room.
Still in a haze from everything that just happened, you sink against the wall, smiling as you bury your head in your hands, the small paper football still closed in one. What were you getting yourself into?
   The snow fell peacefully all afternoon and looked gorgeous against the encroaching night. Isabelle watched it from her window with a mug of mocha-caramel coffee to warm her paws. She listened to the click-clack of Tom’s claws on his laptop’s keys as she enjoyed her umpteenth break today.
   The island was so wonderful, every day an idyllic dream, she thought. It had been ages since she had last been asked to scold someone for inappropriate clothes or vulgar language. Her nose wrinkled with a laugh as she mused on that as she took yet another sweet, sweet sip of her coffee and savoured the dulcet taste of it.
   Isabelle sighed as she let the moment linger before the doors to the Resident Services’s building flung open. She could have jumped out of her skin but thankfully, she hadn’t. Turning herself around to greet the visitor, she noticed that Tom most certainly had. His tail was straight as an arrow but very, very fluffy with his spook as the Island Representative gallivanted inside.
   Cold winds blew right up until those thick, oaken doors shut once more. Even then, Isabelle had to shiver thanks to that icy blast that the Rep had let in as she marched up to oh! To her counter!
   Isabelle couldn’t believe it, she set down her mug of coffee on her desk and she hurried to her side of the long, marble counter which split the Services building in half longways. She smoothed down her dark green skirt and attempted to dazzle the Rep with another one of those million bell smiles of hers - it worked every time.
   The Rep greeted her with a crinkly eyed smile of her own; a hand lifted in greeting as well and it was time to let their dinky little meeting begin. It was always so nice to have something to do, Isabelle thought.
   “So, what did you need today, ma’am?” Isabelle asked.
   “An island evaluation, please.” the Rep chirruped.
   Of course. It was rarely anything else these days. The flag and island tune were all set and all the islanders were getting along for the time being. The only thing there was left to do on the Island Representative’s to-do list was to build up their reputation so that they could get the one and only K.K. Slider to come perform. Oh, that would be so splendid if they could get that to happen.
   “Well,” Isabelle began, her voice perky as she smiled, shuffling papers, “the recent feedback has been stellar but no dice. We come up during many a water cooler chats and we’re making top ten listicles as well but… but we’re still only a four star island, I’m afraid.”
   “Aw, darn... “ the Rep mumbled; she snapped her fingers, too and Isabelle could just see all her hopes dashing. “I’ve been working really hard on the latest feature of our island, too.” And then just like that, Isabelle could see all her hopes return and surged. Perhaps even more powerfully at that given how her eyes bugged with amazement. “Actually, I know,” she said, “you should come and have a look. It’s finished, I promise. Not like, um, not like with the playground, I swear.”
   Isabelle laughed. Yes, she remembered the playground debacle, ha-ha. The Rep had been so pleased to make all those building blocks and rocking horses and to steamroll that one, perfect piece of the island… only to decide that she wasn’t satisfied with it and put the project on a not quite hiatus. She swears she’ll get back to it… she just needs to do some… remodelling… which she can’t do until she unlocks terraforming… which she can’t do unless K.K Slider comes… which doesn’t matter anyway because her head’s reeling at a million miles an hour with ideas to make their island the bestest that there ever was and it was time to start yet another project scene.
   That’s what Isabelle not so secretly nor not so quietly admired about her. She had such vivacious tenacity which lit up her face with brilliance and such pep in her steps. She never got discouraged and she had high standards for herself and for this Island. She truly was the one meant to be their dear, little island’s Representative.
   But back to the matter at hand. Isabelle sighed and she bore a sympathetic look into those big, black eyes of her’s.
   “I’m sorry, Rep, but - but I shouldn’t. I’ve got work to do, you know? Um, like, like doing some filing. I have to scan some things and send them to places and-” Isabelle rambled.
   From across the room, Tom put his foot down. He pinched the bridge of his snout with unamused contempt. “Isabelle,” he said firmly, “just take the rest of the night off. If you have unfinished business, I’ll get to it if it’s that urgent but otherwise, come back to it in the morning, with fresh eyes. Some fun would do you some good, you know. You’re still young, too young to be an old fuddy-duddy like me.”
   “Tom!” Isabelle exclaimed whilst the Island Rep laughed in her cushiony chair across from her.
   “So, what do you say? I think you deserve to see the newest sights that way you can write a listicle or whatever when you get back and that might help propel us to that five star rating, yeah?” the Rep teased her.
   “Oh, oh, okay, it’ll be a business trip.” Isabelle said, tail wagging. “That sounds quite acceptable.”
   Tom just groaned hearing his golden protege hear that but it got her out from behind her counter which was the main thing.
   Isabelle trotted out from behind the counter; lifting it up at the middle seam and then put it back perfectly in place. She beamed at the Island Rep who welcomed her with an outreached hand.
   “C’mon, let’s go, I know it’s cold outside but trust me, what I have in store for you will warm you up to the core.” the Island Rep assured her as she began to lead her to the door.
   Isabelle shivered with excitement, more forcing herself to shiver rather than having done it naturally, as the door was closed. “Ooh, sounds good.” she agreed.
   Tom rolled his eyes from where he worked. Kids, he thought. Although, as he began to pen some numbers down on a notepad to double check his maths, he did briefly wonder if his kids - Timmy and Tommy - would ever be like this. He hoped not. He wanted them to stay small and relatively less annoying like this forever.
   The door opened and everyone inside shivered although, surprisingly, the snow had stopped. But it certainly did look pretty outside. The Island Rep glanced at Isabelle and smiled big. Isabelle laughed and the two rocketed off outside. The Island Rep dragged Isabelle through the snow and it was such crisp joy.
   Snow scrunched and crunched underfoot. It was such fun to run through the flurry as the Rep led Isabelle to the east, first. They rocketed across a wooden bridge and through snow dusted flowers and past a thick, verdant forest all blanketed in the snowy, wintery goodness. The snow on the ground twinkled serenely, even as they ripped through it. Occasionally, they would pass by one of their neighbours who would stop and stare, confused, to see that Isabelle was the one partaking in such hooligan behaviour. The fact that it was the Island Rep leading and initiating such tomfoolery was much less surprising as it was more in line with her behaviour and reputation but not sweet, introverted Isabelle who so rarely stepped a toe outside the Services building.
   They hooked a left up in the middle of this third of the island and began to run out of puff. It was kind of nice, though. As they slowed down and let go of each other, they could see their breath in front of them. A huff and a puff of white clouds which tickled their noses as they started to ascend a stone staircase which was at the bottom of the first of the two upper island crests in this region of the island.
   Isabelle remembered the ceremony which they had hosted for it the other day. She had wondered why the Rep had decided on that particular location but that idle curiosity had barely consumed her like it was now. Her heart raced as she climbed to the top of the stairs, trying to glance around in the dark where she had stood for the ceremony. The photographs taken then had dazzled her, making her see spots where there weren’t any. The ceremony had been so much fun, actually. It was always fun to pop the poppers but the clean up was always something of a drag. Just because the used streamers were biodegradable
   “We’re almost there.” the Island Rep told Isabelle when they had made it to the top.
   From where they stood, they were greeted by a sea of flowers all dancing in the moonlight. Petals, red and yellow and white and even some orange and pink, twitched out of synchronicity with one another. There had been some effort to dig the ones out which would get in the way of where people would walk but some had already grown back through.
   The Island Rep noticed and giggled sheepishly but there was no time to get her shovel out and do some more cleaning up. Isabelle didn’t mind.
   “So where is it? The newest feature of our island that you wanted to show me?” she asked.
    She looked around; towards the inlet which had a waterfall, just past that grove of trees and then the other way, there it was a clear view to the sea. Isabelle couldn’t see a manmade object in sight but that wasn’t a bad thing. The natural look was so, so beautiful as well.
   The Island Rep’s already sheepish demeanour turned yet even more so. She was a little embarrassed as she rubbed the back of her head.
   “We still have a little more to go.” the Rep said. “We’re gonna need to climb a ladder. Are you alright using mine?”
   “Oh!” Isabelle exclaimed with a blink. “That’s a little… dangerous. No, adventurous. It’s adventurous. I’d be happy to… so long as you help.”
   She asked so cutely, how could the Island Rep say no?
   “It’ll be easy as pie.” the Rep replied after a slightly longer than intended pause. And then she had a sudden epiphany, eyes going up wide. “You can go first but promise not to look, I want to be there when you see it.”
   “Okay, okay, I can do that.” Isabelle replied with laughter in her voice.
   Together, the Island Rep and Isabelle moseyed up to the next set of cliffs. It was daunting but with more than enough ease, the Island Rep whipped out her ladder and set to work with helping Isabelle up.
   It was probably only a three-four foot incline upwards but Isabelle was shaken nonetheless. At the bottom of the ladder, the Island Rep held it steady whilst Isabelle so carefully climbed up and made it to the top of the highest area of the island. Once Isabelle gave her the a-okay, the Rep clambered up as fast as she could.
   At the final rung of the ladder, Isabelle offered the Rep her paw and the Rep took it. With a great heft, Isabelle helped the Island Rep to her feet. She was then satisfied and returned the ladder to her inventory. All whilst Isabelle kept her promise. She didn’t sneak a single look at what was behind her whilst the Rep was preoccupied with her pockets.
   “Okay, I’m ready.” the Rep said.
   “Oooh, I’m so excited.” Isabelle could have danced on the spot with her overexcitement.
   “You can look now then.” the Rep said.
   Isabelle turned around and she gasped. A hot springs had been installed by the riverbed.
   “Do you like it?” the Rep asked.
  Isabelle was too stunned to speak as she let her eyes savour what had been prepared before her. Her tail lifted, went stock still, before wagging immensely as she glanced around but her eyes kept coming back to the formation of rocks in the very centre of this plane which had been mostly cleared of trees. Reams of steam curled up off the still, warm water of the hot spring which had been installed. A little clay froggy sat at the back of the rocks and there was a sign customised with a bowl of fruit. Bamboo grew towards the far sides of the cliff and Isabelle sighed. Two types of fruit trees had been planted nearby and she could smell their deliciously sweet scents. There was a hat stand to look after discarded clothes nearby and an array of zen pillows to sit on: all coloured greens and golds, standing out against the white of the fallen snow.
   “Oh, I love it, Rep,” Isabelle swooned, “this is easily your best work yet.”
   “D’aw, thanks.” the Rep replied, rubbing beneath her nose to further hide the blush on her cheeks in the dark.
   “It’s a shame, it’s far too cold to soak, I think.” Isabelle replied. “We should wait for spring…”
   “That’s quitter talk, Isabelle.” the Rep said and she smacked Isabelle good-naturedly between her shoulders.
   “I dunno…” Isabelle quibbled.
   “Please, I brought us some wrap-around towels and spare clothes. If we’re quick, we won’t be cold.” the Rep insisted pleadingly.
   Isabelle looked towards her. Those cute little eyes of the Rep’s made it so difficult to say no to so she sighed. She laughed awkwardly and rubbed her arms.
   “Okay,” she said, “let’s do it.”
   “Yes, I knew you’d come around.” the Rep exclaimed.
   The Island Representative fussed about with her inventory again. She got changed into a wraparound towel and then passed a second one onto Isabelle. She trembled on the spot as she held onto the item in question. It was so sweet of the Island Rep to have gotten one in one of her favourite colours; Isabelle had always felt that earthy tones like brown looked best on her. Excited, Isabelle got changed and she almost couldn’t bear it.
   It was far too cold to be walking around in a bath towel, Isabelle could have squealed. She had a nice thick coat of winter fur on but that poor human of hers. She didn’t know how the Island Rep did it. Running around in all sorts of things; swimming in the sea, looking for sea critters. Argh, the thought alone terrified Isabelle and froze her to the core.
   Absorbed by all her playful misery, the Island Rep took the initiative once again. She took Isabelle by the paw and tugged her towards the hot springs. They leapt into it as though they were leaping into the sea. Hot water went everywhere and they sank the depths, rising up, heads bobbing, and laughing so hard with the mess they had made.
   “Oh, Rep, you are such a card.” Isabelle exclaimed in something of a whiny voice.
   The Island Representative laughed. Heck yeah she was.
   As the Island Rep’s giggles faded out, Isabelle began to smile. She sighed and they both enjoyed a moment of eventual quiet. It was nice.
   Isabelle tilted her head up and she gasped. The skies were so beautiful tonight. She glanced downwards and she noticed all the night sky’s reflection in the water in between the ripples and the curls of steam. Isabelle could not be more enchanted as she felt her heart pound just that little bit more quickly in her fluffy chest.
   She turned her head to the Island Rep, she looked so darling with water in her hair and stars in her eyes. She, too, equally as mesmerised with the fruit of her labour. Gosh, she couldn’t have picked a better spot for such a lovely and serene scene as this, Isabelle wanted to praise her.
   “Thank you for this.” Isabelle found herself saying, not thinking.
   The Island Representative seemed to have not been expecting that. She seemed a little spooked by what Isabelle had suddenly said but it turned to humility.
   “I’m glad you like it.” she replied.
   Isabelle beamed. Her joy was delightful on her furry muzzle and the Island Rep relished the expression. The crinkles on the side of her eye, particularly note worthy despite being so small and in the dark as well.
   The water had long since stilled despite their entry into it and Isabelle disrupted it, unthinking. She moved in closer to the Island Rep. Her paw fumbling over the Rep’s hand and she stroked at it, awkwardly. The Island Rep didn’t mind, not even when Isabelle’s claws, non-retractable as she was a canine, lightly grazed over her skin.
   “You do a lot for us.” Isabelle added, not quite yet done with praising the Island Rep. “For the Island, not just me.”
   “I gotta.” the Rep said. “I love you guys.” She felt a bulge form in her throat and it made her hesitate; to double guess herself and the like but ever the ragamuffin, the only way she knew to handle it was by going through, guns blazing and the like. “I love you too, Isabelle. A lot, even.” Her heart pounded and she still found words to blurt out. “I’m glad we could have tonight together. To do something special.”
   The Island Rep still felt as though she had more to say but instead, she found herself being sucked into the awespiring blackholes of Isabelle’s eyes. They kept widening and widening and were still somehow getting wider with her wonder at the Island Represenative’s confession. The shock was sweet and palpable.
   “....Really?” Isabelle whispered. “You… love me?”
   “Mmhm, most of all.” the Island Rep promised and she took Isabelle’s paws - both of them. She held them tightly. The Island Rep could feel the squishy bits of Isabelle’s paws on her palms; they felt like plush leather, it was sensory heaven to her, even submerged in the water.
   “Oh, that’s lovely, thank you, I - I love you too.” Isabelle said.
   Isabelle reefed her paws out from the Rep’s hands and flung them towards her face in an exuberant hug. The embrace which ensued with messy and had them splashing about in the hot springs but it was so, so much fun. And it ended with them settling down, with haphazard breaths and they stared into each other’s eyes.
   “May I?” Isabelle asked. Her words were slow and tender, mixing up in the steam still roiling off the meniscus of the hot springs.
   “Of course.” the Island Representative replied; Isabelle didn’t even have to ask but it was sweet that she had.
   Isabelle pawed at the Rep’s face as she angled her own so as to get everything in the direction it ought to be going. So that noses wouldn’t bump into each other; so that teeth wouldn’t clink against teeth but all that happened anyway. It simply couldn’t be helped but at least it was funny. When they finally started to kiss each other - contact, warm, lip to lip and mouth to mouth - they were both laughing.
   Isabelle’s kiss was everything that the Island Representative thought it would be. A little strange thanks to the physiological differences but it worked out nicely regardless. Isabelle’s kiss was a smooth caress, pressing forward but only with permission, with deft flicks of her wagging tongue whilst the Island Rep was a bit less controlled than that. Despite being human, she tried to be big and grand and long. She was free flying passion, poking forward with curiosity and excitement.
   They were both loath to end it but they had to breathe on their own eventually. When it ended, there were stars in both their eyes and a fantastic happiness in both their hearts.
   “I promise to take you on more breaks like this one soon.” the Island Rep said and she finally felt that she may have everything she had ever wanted off her chest now.
   Isabelle giggled, demure. “I shall look forward to it.” She was evasive as she had her own designs - soon to be quite literally - now in her own mind. What if… for August… she could finally have plenty more escapes from behind the desks to light up the night with the Island Representative. Wouldn’t that be lovely?
   For now, they just revelled in the lovestruck looks that they couldn’t tear away from each other. Soaking in the cool, winter air of July nights and the warm water of the hot springs. Not even minding that, eventually, they would have to get out and what a hop, skip, and a jump of trouble that would be but for now, they would enjoy what they had a little bit longer.
LOT/CC fic: Holiday Jitters
It's Sara's first day at CC Jitters. And there's this annoying--if hot--guy who won't put down his phone...
*
I know. I have a lot to be writing on. But I've had a hellacious week that gave me no time for personal writing projects at all, and once I did have  few minutes, I couldn't kick my muse into gear on existing things.
I had to get out of my own head on it--so I tried to think of a popular fluff-trope I'd never written.
And here you go. My first coffeeshop AU. Sort of. I tried to keep it short (for me), but I'm already considering continuing it if anyone's interested.
Many thanks to Pir8grl. Can also be read here at AO3.
*
When Sara decided she needed a change of scenery from Star City, it seemed to make sense to make it Central. Her mom lived there, after all, and it wasn’t like the city was unfamiliar with the presence of vigilante/hero types. Not since the particle accelerator thing, anyway.
But even a hero needed some way to make ends meet—and the work she was doing with the martial arts studio and the women’s shelter didn’t pay much. So, here she was, standing in the employee coatroom at CC Jitters with her new friend Kendra and preparing to take on her first shift as kinda-a-barista.
It couldn’t be that different from working as a bartender. Right?
Kendra, whom Sara had met because she volunteered at the shelter, laughed as Sara determinedly plopped her fuzzy red and white Santa hat on her head. “Don’t look so unnerved,” she chided good-naturedly, reaching out to grab her nametag and handing Sara her own. “I’ve been seen you hand grown men three times your size their asses. What’s to fear at a coffee shop?”
Sara, attaching the tag, considered responses, then went with the truth, though she knew her friend wouldn’t understand all the background. “It’s just so…normal…”she sighed, glancing out toward the front of the shop. “And I…”
Her voice trailed off, but Kendra, bless her, just nodded. She didn’t know the full story, but Sara had danced around the edges enough when explaining her supposed martial arts training that she knew Sara had been in some not-so-normal situations, with a not-so-normal background.
“You’ll be fine,” she said gently, touching Sara’s elbow. “Now, let’s get out there. Oakley’s been on their feet since 5 a.m., and Amanda needs to get more baked goods in the ovens.”
And Sara took a deep breath. Nodded. And followed her friend out to deal with that most erratic of opponents—the public.
*
A few hours later, Sara had to admit, it wasn’t going too badly. Not nearly as badly as she’d feared, anyway. The customers had been nice enough, the regulars welcoming in their own way, and while Sara deferred to Kendra to make the more high-octane espresso drinks, she’d put her own spin on a few simpler things in a way that had been well received.
As the morning rush subsided (but before the lunch rush began), Sara took a deep breath, then turned, grinning at Kendra. The rush of triumph, she’d admit, was a little unexpected.
“I,” she pronounced with satisfaction, “actually liked that. And I think it’s going well.”
Kendra smiled back. “Well,” she said, starting to clear a space of the back counter, “it’s only partway through your first day. But you’re doing great.”
Sara heard the door open behind her, then, but didn’t turn around just yet. “Well, I know I’m not working too many hours here, but it’s just nice to be…”
She turned around mid-sentence and paused.
The man walking toward her…well, he caught the eye. Her particular eye, at least. Just something about him, a way of moving, grace and power despite his lean build.
Tall…yes. All in black, slacks and a sweater. Old enough for the close-cropped hair to be all salt-and-pepper, but definitely not in an unappealing way.
All this observation was in a heartbeat as he strolled up to the counter—unerringly, despite the fact that he hadn’t looked up from his phone once. Sara moved toward him, hearing Kendra say…something…behind her, torn between an unexpected attraction and irritation at the man’s focus on his tech.
“Can I help you?” she asked, trying to keep both from her tone.
He…muttered something. In a low, incredibly sexy voice, sure, but still muttered. Unintelligibly.
Sara kept her cool. “Pardon?”
Another mutter. His brow furrowed, Mr. Rude Hottie tapped his phone again. Was he sending a text?
So much for cool. Sara snorted.
“You know,” she said, placing her hands on the counter and leaning forward, ignoring Kendra making choking noises from behind her. “This would be a lot easier if you put that thing away and actually looked at me.”
The words—or the tone, or both—got through. Startled, the man glanced up at her.
Ooh. Oh, those were beautiful blue eyes. Sara kept her face stony, though, unable to regret her tart tone.
“It’s OK,” she finally registered Kendra saying behind her. “I know…”
But the man put the phone down, on the counter. He even pushed it aside, toward the pick-up area, giving Sara his full attention.
And…whoa. That full attention, complete with intent blue eyes and slight smile/smirk, was apparently enough to send a ripple of attraction through her in a way she hadn’t felt in rather a long time. Sara kept it from showing, she thought, and gave him a cool smile in return.
“I’m sorry,” the man actually said, in that voice, sounding fairly sincere. “I was being rude.” A pause. “I’m here regularly enough that I’m generally on autopilot. I apologize.”
Well, then. Sara tipped her head toward him as Kendra sighed behind her. “Thank you,” she acknowledged. “Now, what can I get you?”
Those blue eyes crinkled at the corners. “Just a coffee. The dark roast. One cream.”
“I got it,” Kendra volunteered, and Sara let her, content to continue her mutual inspection with the customer.
He glanced away first, eyes flickering toward the small chalkboard sign Sara had set out with her new creations. “Peppermint mocha, eh?”
“It’s good,” Sara informed him, wondering if he was a purist. One of those often-snotty “flavored coffee drinks are the work of the devil” types.
A shrug. “It sounds good,” he acknowledged. “Will admit, though, every one of those I’ve tried have been far too sweet for my taste.”
Ah. A challenge. Sara perked up.
“Try it out,” she informed him, turning aside. “On me. If you don’t like it…”
A good enough conclusion doesn’t come to mind. So, at the man’s chuckle, she merely reaches out to grab a cup. “Your name?”
The eyes crinkle again. “Len.”
“Len.” Sara writes it on the cup with a flourish, resisting the thoroughly inexplicable urge to add her number. “Got it. Give me just a minute.”
She lets Kendra take his money for the plainer coffee, focusing on the drink she’s making. Dark roast coffee instead of the more-often-used breakfast blend, dark chocolate syrup instead of the sweeter milk chocolate. Just a splash of cream. Enough peppermint to taste, but not enough to overwhelm. A mere sprinkle of the crushed candy canes they kept on the side.
With a grin, she moved to the pick-up counter, where this Len was waiting, other coffee in hand, leaning against the surface in a casual slouch. He put the other cup down and took the drink with a lifted eyebrow and the shadow of a smile, raising it in a toast to her before he took a sip.
The mobile eyebrows both went up. Sara resisted the desire to pump her fist and cheer.
“This is good,” he said, looking down at it, then up at her again. “Thank you…Sara.”
Right. Her nametag. Sara kept herself from shivering at the way he said the name. “Welcome,” she told him, leaning on the counter herself, angled toward him. “Sorry. Just the first one’s free.”
That got a chuckle. He took another sip, eyes on hers. “So, it going to be a regular menu item now?”
There was something in the question that led Sara to think he was asking about more than the drink. (And Kendra’s giggle from behind her backed that up.)
“When I’m here anyway,” she said easily, watching him. “Which will be mid- to late mornings, a few days a week, anyway. At least through the holidays.”
He tipped his head toward her again at the information, straightening from the slouch. “Good to know.” There was a pause…and then Len turned for the door with one last glance. “Thanks again, Sara.”
She stuffed down the flicker of disappointment. “Nice to meet you, Len.”
Leonard Snart was a busy man. He hadn’t really meant to be rude. He was just…distracted.
Juggling a security business with other…extracurricular…activities could get hectic, after all. He’d been out so late last night that he’d gotten an even later start than usual, and he’d had texts that were both business related and extracurricular related. He wasn’t precisely a chatty or social guy at the best of times, and the folks at Jitters knew him. He had, perhaps, presumed a bit too much.
Until he’d heard a new and slightly biting voice, and glanced up into a pair of sharp, bright blue eyes.
Smiling a little, Len took a sip from the unexpectedly delicious peppermint mocha as he sauntered down the street away from Jitters. The other drink was certainly getting cold, but he could reheat that when he got to his office. It wasn’t so far away, after all. Maybe he’d even go back later…though she’d said she’d be working mornings…
Len was so busy examining his unexpected interest in the new barista that he was nearly all the way to the end of the block before he realized. Crap.
He’d left his phone back at Jitters. His phone, full of information (though couched in rather coded language) about various activities that just anybody really shouldn’t see. All because he’d gotten distracted by…
“Len!”
Blinking, Leonard turned to see Sara hurrying down the sidewalk after him. She’d pulled on a coat, but the snowflakes drifting down from the sky were collecting on her golden hair…and his phone was in her hand.
He shook off a feeling of relief, stepping back toward her to take it.
Sara grinned at him. “I yelled at you a few times, but you seemed to be a little lost in thought,” she said, relinquishing the device. “Sorry. I didn’t notice until you were well out the door.”
“No, thank you.” Len studied her, then nodded, giving in to an impulse. “You working tomorrow?”
“No.” She looked a little regretful, putting her hands in her pockets and studying him in return. “But I will be the next day.”
“Good.” Len pocketed the phone. “Gotta get to work. Thanks again…Sara.”
“Welcome, Len.” She waited, then, until he was a few more paces down the street. “If you miss me at Jitters on Wednesday…well, you have a way to reach me.”
Len paused. Then he turned, watching Sara walk away, back toward the coffeeshop. And then he pulled out the phone.
There was a new contact added: “Sara—Jitters.”
Huh.
A smile crossed his face. Maybe she hadn't thought he'd been that rude, after all.
Hi there! I’m new to fandom and after reading a few fics I’m completely in love with long-suffering BFF Matt. Is there a tag for that, or do you have any recs? Thank you!
Oh boy, anon, this is a goldmine of an ask. There are so many of these, but here’s a few to start out with.
backflipped right into my heart - arahir @arahir
ongoing, 9/? chapters, 29k. (Mature).
Matt bears witness to the greatest tragedy of the modern age.
Shiro is staring at the kid, open-mouthed, and there’s not a trace of humor in it.
“Parkour?” Shiro asks, managing to sound fascinated.
“Yeah.” The kid brushes the bangs out of his eyes, suave-like. “Parkour.”
-
   Katie. This kid has never done parkour in his life. He wouldn’t know parkour if it did a back flip off a building and suplexed him in an alley.
You Mocha Me Crazy - lasersheith @lasersheith
10k. (Teen). Contains: background Lance/Matt.
Shiro needs to find a new gym. On his quest, he finds a new favorite coffee shop, and maybe even a new boyfriend (if Matt has anything to say about it).
“Ooh, someone’s fancy today. Big meeting?” Matt asked as he grabbed a Red Bull from the fridge and cracked it open.
Shiro was impressed that he didn’t grimace at the sharp taste so early in the morning. “Yeah, I have to present at the quarterly review,” he shrugged, “it should go fine, I just can’t get my stupid tie right.”
Matt chuckled and set his drink next to Shiro’s on the breakfast bar, raising an eyebrow at the cup before turning to pull apart the awful job Shiro had done with his tie. He smoothed out the crumbled ends and adjusted them for length before looping them around and through each other in a standard half-windsor knot.
“So did you get his number?” Matt asked with a smile as he patted the knot, deeming it presentable.
Shiro blinked at him in confusion. “Get whose number?”
Matt shook his head. “Whoever drew this.” He grabbed Shiro’s cup and spun it around.
Like a Record Baby - CGotAnAccount @illunelurks
12k. (Mature).
Thirty-seven.
That’s the number of individual sweat droplets that have wound their way around and down the spin instructor’s neck, across his collarbone, and through the pecs Shiro could see beneath the gaping tank top he wore.
a little far gone - redluxite (wordstruck) @redluxite
2k. (Teen).
Keith walks in at the usual time in the morning. Matt simply turns to Shiro and says, “switch with me”, before abruptly hauling his friend to stand in front of the register before Shiro can even ask why.
He then proceeds to make the most complicated coffee order he can imagine, for no one in particular.
Shiro has no idea what is going on until he turns to the counter and spots Keith on the other side.
Or, Matt and Shiro part-time as baristas at the campus coffee shop, and Shiro thinks Keith is cute.
Not-Dating - Kalira @kalira9
1k. (Teen).
Matt really wishes Shiro and Keith would just go on their date-not-a-date and leave him and his impending nervous breakdown over finals alone together.
A Glass Raised in Botherhood - lasersheith @lasersheith
2k. (Teen).
Making a documentary about team Voltron seemed like a good idea at the time, but Ryan quickly discovers that it might have been more trouble than it was worth. At least he has Matt to suffer with him. Ryan starts fast forwarding again and Matt sighs as Shiro starts his interview. “How long did Keith go on?” His voice is tired, weak.“Eleven minutes,” Ryan replies flatly, preparing the coup de grace that Matt can feel coming from a mile away.“Jesus,” he mutters under his breath, draining what’s left of his beer. Ryan hits play and does the same.
