last night's episodes of totnt mostly irritated me with very bad pacing, which is a shame, because I was so charmed by the lead up. there have been too many redundant meetings and also too many people stopping to monologue about how sad it will be if Lee Yeon dies. >:( I was ready to have brainworms for at least two weeks, show. Also, going into the final episodes there has still been no actual explanation for why the main character abandoned his kid brother on a burning mountain with a dead puppy aside from "he was very sad." im beginning to question whether he was locked in a hell dimension at all.

I know a lot of people in the fandom are angry at Aziraphale's decision, but I can't help noticing how much his return to heaven feels like watching an abuse victim return to their abusers/manipulator. The way Metatron showed up, tempted him with coffee, gave him the whole "Oh, I've eaten physical matter in the past, too," thing that sounds much less innocent when it's coming from someone who's genuinely trying to TEMPT Aziraphale with an agenda in mind. See, Crowley's "temptations" have never been with an agenda other than showing Aziraphale some good fun. Eat the food, it's super tasty! Drink the booze, it's really good! Crowley's more or less trying to show him how benign and harmless a lot of the stuff heaven makes out to be "sinful" is, while Metatron is specifically doing this to make Aziraphale trust him.

Metatron comes in, COMPLETELY ignores Crowley verbally ("It's just you and me now," he says, even though Crowley is sitting RIGHT THERE.), and separates him from Crowley, isolated him elsewhere to talk about his plan. He basically cornered him into making a quick decision (even though he said there was no rush; Aziraphale would have felt pressured regardless).

(Unrelated, this reminds me of a time when a family member tried to remove me from my immediate family because they thought my "upbringing" wasn't "right" and they ended up being incredibly transphobic and it kind of makes me sick to think about it now. Of course, Aziraphale's story isn't a one-to-one allegory for this, but it reminds me of it, and I can only think that Aziraphale has been swindled into returning to people who are going to try and strip him of everything that makes him him.)

I know I'm focusing a lot on this coffee, but the fact the Metatron is tempting Aziraphale from his home with a food item is not lost on me (and its coffee, which is meant to wake you up). But it's just the way Aziraphale asks "Do I drink it?" and gets permission from the Metatron like he's ALREADY BEING MANIPULATED in this scene!

The Metatron is basically tossing a flash grenade at him - coming in fast and subtle, startling him with a lot of information, taking control of the situation really fast.

We also didn't get to see the entire conversation. It's pretty clear, from what I've seen, that the Metatron is a VERY good manipulator. So, while I was heartbroken and upset that Aziraphale left, I'm also worried sick about him. And I can't imagine how Crowley must feel, too - because he has to know this, too. He knows heaven is toxic (he said so himself) and now Aziraphale is going back there. Aziraphale wants to try and change things (sort of like how Crowley wanted to give god suggestions, to make positive change) in Heaven. Aziraphale is going to fail. And Crowley knows this.

Granted, we can tell from season 2 that Aziraphale probably won't have to worry about falling. That would imply an institution problem. Nah, I'm more worried about some memory shenanigans.

Anyway, I live in fear. :)

This is all because someone said that tim being wealthy DOES impact his character. Like the ppl in the screenshot are defending the idea that tim should be written as middle class and even claimed that plot points about/made possible or exacerbated by his wealth have nothing to do with his characterization bc they’re plot points and not character traits. They also previously said there’s little to no mention of his wealth whilst also trying to say his wealth doesn’t matter because it’s just “new money” (which I’d argue adds a LOT of context to the drakes vs the Waynes but that’s into analysis territory and I’m not getting into with someone who said plot points don’t impact the character 💀)
