Anchorsholme Park in Blackpool occasionally hosts markets at which handcrafted tornado potatoes are available. This is the first time I found out that tornado potatoes exist.

I think a nice thing about one piece that when I was still doing a lot of original fiction I was trying to emulate with my own stuff is the idea that although there's consistent overarching lore and a wider world to consider, the settings of individual places and moments can be essentially anything you want. absolutely nothing is off limits, and I think that creates a really fascinating place to explore

hi!! thank you so much for your brilliant recommendations - we've just spent a day in prague and saw the charles bridge and the clock. thinking of heading to a few museums and the castle tomorrow and will follow your sightseeing route in the evening - just wondering if you had any recommendations for food, bars, cafes, shops, hidden gems you've encountered? prague is so gorgeous omg !!
Glad you’re having a good time so far!! 🫶🏽
Cafés:
there’s a lovely one right off of the Charles Bridge: U Zábradlí. It’s a little out of the way in a side street but it’s cute:)
if you’re willing to go a bit farther out, there’s an amazing ice cream place crossing the train tracks at the Hradčanská tram/metro stop: Crème de la Crème. They’ve got homemade ice creams, coffee, and delicious hot chocolate (they take a few scoops of chocolate ice cream and melt it 🤩). They’ve also got pastries—we usually just go for the ice cream or hot choccy but other customers seem to like them:)
Restaurants
*disclaimer!! These are only for lunch menus Mon-Fri!!* (in order of budget-friendly-ness)
Restaurace Století: this place is right off the Charles Bridge, a bit further down than U Zábradlí, and has a (small) buffet of classic Czech dishes for a great lunch menu price! And also really nice homemade lemonade:) Fun fact: the name means “100 years” because the building has been around for a really long time and the interior reflects and pays homage to the underground Prague of old. Also, this one is close to one of the three oldest structures in the city: the Rotunda of the Finding of the Holy across built in the 11th century, for an interesting post/pre-lunch walk.
Mánes: I believe someone on your original post commented about their art collection, but there’s also a restaurant! Located close to the Dancing House, it overlooks the Vltava river with serious fancy vibes—but great prices with the lunch menu! Highly recommend for a fun time out (also has good homemade lemonade). The food is DELICIOUS I dream of it sometimes
Café Imperial: if Mánes was fancy, this one is fancy fancy (there used to be gold swans in the washbasin of the restroom—high key sad they remodelled it). So this is an “only-go-for-the-lunch-menu-unless-you’re-rich” restaurant. The price is an absolute steal considering and worth it for the food and the location (today’s most expensive main dish is €12). You can see the lunch menu on their website—it changes everyday. Also their hot chocolate is stunning, like liquid chocolate I dream of this hot chocolate too often probably
Bonus: The top of the dancing house: this one is here for the view. With the price of the lunch menu around the same to slightly more expensive than Manes, the food can’t compare to Manes (nor Café Imperial, for that matter). So here you come for the view and the “I ate at the top of the Dancing House” bragging rights;)
Hidden Gems:
You might find this one in some guides, but there’s a covered paságe with King Wenceslas riding an upside down horse. It’s called Lucerna passage and also has a cafe if you’re interested in a break:) (This I recommend if you’ve already seen the original statue at the square, for best effect)
Top tip: walk through any and all paságes you see! There are so many and you never know where they might lead, but they’re often really pretty:) For example, there’s one from the rotating Kafka head at Národní Třída on your way to Wenceslas Sq. that brings you to a monastic garden that’s really beautiful! Just make sure you’re phone is charged and you have access to gmaps so you can find you’re way again after following the nice paságe a lá Narnia style
Hope this helps! 🇨🇿💕
