Consider: Spock doesn't regain his sight after the events of Operation: Annihilate! but he receives sensor-equipped robes that operate like Dr. Jones' so he can continue his duties aboard the Enterprise.

Bones (speaking loudly to Jim on the Bridge with Spock at his regular station approximately three metres away): Please don't tell Spock I said he was the best First Officer in the Fleet.
Spock: Why, thank you, doctor.
Jim:  You've been so concerned about his Vulcan eyes, Doctor, you forgot about his Vulcan ears.
Bones (in the Officer's Mess): Scotty, please don't tell Spock I said he was the specialest smartest most handsome boy in the universe.
Scotty: Doctor, he's sitting right next to you.
Bones: My god, man, what part of "sworn to secrecy" don't you understand?
Bones (in his quarters over dinner): Spock, please don't tell Spock I said he lights up every room he enters with his preternatural beauty and grace.
Spock: Doctor, this is illogical. You are speaking directly to me--
Bones: QUIET! He'll hear you. He has big ears

Hey, do you ever think about Jim Kirk after "City on the Edge of Forever"? Do you think that when they got back to the ship, he hid from the crew for a while? Maybe he called his brother and talked to Sam about everything that happened with Edith? Do you think that he didn't talk to Spock or Bones for days unless he needed to because he's the Captain? Because even though they weren't to blame for what happened, he needed someone to blame? And then, do you think that when "Operation: Annihilate!" happened Jim almost left Starfleet because first Edith died, and now his brother was dead too? Do you think that's why Bones never held the way Jim acted toward him in that episode against him, because even though Jim was purposefully hurtful, he was also hurting? Do you think that maybe him calling Sam after Edith was the last time they talked before things went wrong? Do you think Jim regretted that for the rest of his life?
I don't know, I just think about that sometimes.

I love “Operation: Annihilate!” for the Drama of Spock being infected by the parasite and using Vulcan Logic to overcome the pain and being the test subject and all that. It’s fun, even if the whole “Vulcans have extra eyelids nobody knew about” thing at the end was kind of out of nowhere.
But like - it’s so funny to me how quick they were to jump straight to “We know what kills it! Let’s immediately test it on Spock. We need to. For reasons. Should we wait for the results of the test on the creature we just killed, which only take a few minutes? No! We need to immediately blast Spock”
Obviously it’s just contrived for the Drama, but it’s very funny.

In Amok Time, Spock says, "Captain, lock me away. I do not wish to be seen." And Kirk responds, "I'm trying to help you, Spock." And it's revealed he's taking Spock to Sickbay.
But, in the previous episode Operation: Annihilate, Spock breaks out of Sickbay only to be sedated, brought back, and restrained. Locked away, if you will. And it leads to Spock's, "Let me help," offering himself up as both possible sacrifice and test subject.

But! In the episode before that, The City on the Edge of Forever, we get the iconic exchange of:
Edith Keeler: Whatever it is, let me help.
Kirk: "Let me help." A hundred years or so from now, I believe, a famous novelist will write a classic using that theme. He'll recommend those three words even over "I love you."
Funny how certain phrases and events parallel or cycle back around between consecutive (by air date, not production code) episodes. Interesting. Fascinating, even. (I am fully aware of the caveat that my brain is seeking out patterns, I am lost in the Spirk sauce/soup/brainrot/whatever, etc.)
