Having spent the past couple of weeks inebriated, Nate was homebound and depressed, withering away from the perfect sculpture he’d been crafting himself into for the past eighteen years. After years of rigorous routine, he quit cold turkey, looking around an unkempt room full of pizza boxes, chinese takeout cartons, and cases of beer —along with Cassie’s belongings. Her clothes and makeup were reminders that she never came back after he told her to get out. He couldn’t face her, or anyone for that matter. Nate’s biggest fear was for someone to find out his father was fucking men in a hotel, and for them to use that against him. Lexi’s play was every one of his nightmares come to life. The entire school was there and everyone was laughing at the homoerotic depiction of his life. Nate wanted to kill Ethan and Lexi. He still might, because without revenge, THIS was his life.

With college around the corner, Nate wasn’t doing anything to prepare for his future. However, everyone else seemed to be ready and partying. Fireworks could be seen exploding in the night sky as he pulled into a gas station for more beer. It was a warm day and everyone was at the beach, burning marshmallows, getting wasted, and skinny dipping. Nate had no intention of showing up, but something brought him there. Maybe it was the beer, or maybe he was just curious.

When their teacher started assigning each student a partner, Will didn't care who he would he assigned to. He was still new here. He hasn't gotten to make friends yet. Yeah, he has swapped numbers with people, mainly for potential hookups because he is not picky. But, also for potential friendships. He might as well make the most of his time at East Highland High, he was stuck here with the lower class students rather he liked it or not. He is still angry at his father about this whole transferring to a public school instead of another private one. He sits, waiting for the teacher to assign him his partner. His cheek leans against his knuckles. When Nate's name is said, Will turns to look back at the other boy. His seat is halfway across the room. Blue eyes meet brown ones before he tears his gaze away to gather his binder, text book, and pencil. Might as well get this over with.

not much has changed between high school and college for nate jacobs. he started off with this idea that once he left home and got out of town something would click, but confusion and confliction was ingrained in him. his father lived in his thoughts, in his dreams; there was no escape. maybe he should have gone to therapy but he didn’t. he thought he was too smart for it. what can some asshole in a small office say to him that he doesn’t already know? he isn’t ignorant to who he is. he doesn’t need some fucking epiphany. the rage couldn’t be quelled.

it was friday and the student lounge was full of students making plans. nate wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. on one hand, he’d been drinking a lot. alcohol helped numb things, but it also made him feel out of control. most of his nefarious actions were accompanied with a bottle of something. when he went after jules. when he attacked tyler. when he broke into maddy’s house. alcohol was involved every time. “well, we have that project, but you can do it yourself, right?” nate turned his seat, passing a glance at the blonde. they’d been assigned a weekend project and nate was paired with gwen, but fuck that project.

But what really set him off, was knowing that if it ever got out, everyone would confuse him for being the same. What son doesn’t pay for the sins of their father? Football, Maddy, and a physique that could rival the Gods was all an illusion; a perfect picture of male excellence for him to hide behind. At least that’s what he thought… Until Maddy broke things off after she found her name written in the jocks’ playbook before and after other conquests. Madeleine may have been written down as a trophy but it’s not how Nate really saw her. He loved her but he was all kinds of fucked up. Now he couldn’t even explain himself because she blocked him on all fronts.

Cassie, however, must have forgotten how girl code works because Nate still had access to her pages and after seeing Maddy tagged in a # girl’s night out post, Nate decided to follow Cassie using the Snapchat location services which then led him to Maddy. “Wasn’t easy tracking you down,” Nate said, approaching the girls’ little get-together outside of a club. “Can you stop being such a bitch and just talk to me?” Nate was becoming increasingly more agitated being around her group and so he took her hand and pulled her with him into an alley, “I got something for you.” Pulled from his pants pocket was a small, red box with a necklace inside. Gifts were something he gave her a lot. He really didn’t know how else to expression himself being emotionally stunted and all.
