watched wish a few days ago and was underwhelmed with the execution of the cool ideas they went with so i took it into my own hands

first of all i took the star boy concept and made it real

more under the cutttt

(his pronouns are he/they/star/any btw (self-indulgence))

- they are a shapeshifter, being able to change their form at will. at first, theyre a ball of light/star shape but when they see asha they’re like omgg cool form and use that new humanoid form more often

- the amount of light they give off changes with their emotions/health

- they are mute, communicating through sign language, magic, shapeshifting, or acting things out

in my story asha is a princess like she should’ve been and is the adopted daughter of magnifico and amaya (who are both evil like in the concepts)

the two have somehow connected rosas and the star kingdom and use the star peoples’ magic/life force to power their own magic. asha, being adopted, struggles to use this magic well but feels immense pressure to make her parents proud. the use of this magic by the king and queen (and asha) is slowly killing the star boys kingdom. it killed his parents, causing star to run away (they have a problem with running away from their problems)

he and asha meet at this time after she wishes. her wish was something along the lines of being good at magic finally or being able to help people/fulfill expectations. he IMMIDIATELY falls in love with her lmao. it takes her much longer. either way they start to help her learn magic, both of them unaware that it’s killing him and his kingdom.

they grow very close and in loooveeee hee heeee

at some point asha and him fight, maybe they both find out what ashas magic truly is and star feels betrayed. they run away from her and go to her parents in the castle to try and win them over and be dimplomatic, still not really knowing her parents are the real problem. (it’s at this point he changes his outfit to the one on the far right of the top image as it’s more traditionally accepted in a kingdom like ashas and he wants to make a good impression on her strict parents.)

unfortunately, it doenst matter and he is immediately captured lmao and the king and queen start to drain them of their life force/magic for similar greed reasons to the original movie.

something something asha has to learn the truth of her kingdom, face her parents, and save him idk i’m bad at writing stuff like this on the spot

ALSO the “This is the Thanks I Get” song is no longer magnifico singing to his subjects but both parents to asha basically guilt tripping her into being better and being on their side. aaanddd “At All Costs” is no longer a weird duet with asha and mag but is with asha to star teehee

this isn’t completely thought out or anything but i thought i might as well share it real quick while the iron is hot or something

description - you and jonah have been best friends for years. you’ve both have had crushes on each other for years. the list goes on and on! you don’t believe much in love as much as you used to, although fighting the thoughts of you still crushing on jonah in your head.

you sat on the couch of the party venue attempting to put your shoes on.

you were a little tipsy but you were well enough to get yourself though the door on the way out without walking into the doorframe.

jonah was with you, and he said he’d get you home.

he wasn’t drunk. he was actually pretty sober. which you thought was a little odd for him, but anyways.

you both got to his car, he helped you walk, holding his hand around your waist you guide you. you liked his company. you kept him close to you, although not knowing half of what was happening, so you just went with it.

the two of you got in the car, and you went straight for the radio and started playing different songs. “can i?” you said, with a slight slur.

jonah laughed slightly, giving you his phone to choose the tracks that you wanted to play, “knock yourself out, y/n!” he said, now starting to drive.

you of course put taylor swift on. you had been a taylor swift fan for years, and jonah knows it. you’ve got him into her songs a little too!

not all of them. he pretends to know them, so he just mumbles or hums along to them. but he knows a few!

you put on “daylight”! you both recognise the song straight away. he knows your favourite album is lover, since you play the album 24/7 when you two are together.

although slightly drunk, you hit all the lyrics, since you have this song on loop.

you and jonah do a duet sort of thing to the song:

“come on jonah!” you say, just before you sing the next line of the song, actually realising that jonah was looking at you for a second, it made you blush hard.

JONAH: burning red!!

Y/N: but it’s..

BOTH: GOLDEN!

you two finally pull up outside your apartment block, upset that the drive had come to an end.

“you need any help getting in?” jonah asks you, while the last part of daylight is playing.

you shake your head, “no.. i think im okay, thank you..” you say, admiring him.

the last part of ‘daylight’ continues to play. you both sit and look into each other’s eyes.

all of a sudden, lips were touching. it felt as if you both should’ve done this years ago. you’ve known each other for years!

pinkies and then hands were intwined together. as if they were supposed to fit together.

you both let go from the kiss, and smile at him, and indeed you were “burning red”. but it was “golden” between you two.

you looked up at him. “do you wanna come in?” you asked, as you held his hand in yours.

jonah smiled at you, admiring all your features as you were too. “yeah.. yeah! id love that..” he told you, now getting ready to exit his car, as you did as well.

you then take his hand in his, now walking towards your apartment block as jonah locks his car.

now you only see daylight, he was your daylight and you were his golden sun.

Instead of a season two of Moon Knight, they should just remake season one but as a musical

Included songs:

"Generic intro song" (As Steven gets ready/arrives at work, to show what a mess of a person he is, how he wants to be a tour guide, and how little his coworkers care abt him)

"Marc and Steven fight in the storage unit" song (Marc's verses are needlessly complicated, vague, and confusing; Steven's verses start as questions that don't get answered but changes into his line abt stake, not being able to breathe, and requests to go to the hospital, all of which are ignored by Marc. Uses Marc and Steven's musical theme)

"Layla's song about why she's upset/betrayed" (it's obvious that it's supposed to be a duet but Steven doesn't know the words so he's just fumbling and apologizing. Ends with Layla abt to storm out on him but the police knock on the door. Uses Marc and Layla's musical theme)

"Generic villain song" for Harrow (maybe the melody is deceptively happy and uplifting but words are sinister. The other cult members are backup singers)

"Marc and Layla are fighting" song (Uses Marc and Layla's theme. It starts with them undercover on the boat in Egypt when she's trying to get him to open up and it's obvious he's still in love with her. Climaxes when they reach Mogart's and the whole company comes in. They're trying to be in character but are still fighting. Ends when Mogart shows up)

"Khonshu's song" (Could be titled 'I Remember Every Night,' idk. Could be sad and abt how he got kicked out or could be lowkey evil and manipulative, depending on how you want to characterize him. Or both!)

"Steven's attempt at flirting" song (This isn't really a song. It's more like three or four lines he sings to Layla after they kiss as an echo of her song abt why she was upset. Uses a variation of Marc and Layla's theme but is still different enough)

"Marc and Layla are fighting" reprise (very short, only a verse or two, but it's after Layla finds out about her dad. Basically, she's yelling at him and throwing everything from the original song back in his face)

"Angst: part one" song (Steven sings this when he finds out he's 'not real.' It's really short and simple, only a verse wo any accompaniment, but it breaks your heart)

"Angst: part two" song (This is where you really start crying :) Marc sings this after they watch his brother drown. It's the same melody as Steven's but a bit longer, two verses, and is abt how he's so so sorry. Bonus points if he starts crying at the end and his voice breaks and he's crying, you're crying, everybody's crying. This is the song you wish was longer than 30 seconds and loop over and over during a breakdown)

"Marc and Steven fight in the storage unit" reprise (This is Marc's speech to Steven in the Duat when he gives him the heart. It's really sweet and sad and uses Marc and Steven's theme)

"Big climax fight" song (Big battle song at the end. Everybody sings. Marc, Steven, Harrow, Layla, Khonshu, Ammit, the ensemble. Obviously, Marc and Steven sing the most, finishing each other's lines, harmonizing, etc to show they're really in sync now but everybody else has at least one line. Mostly uses Marc and Steven's theme but incorporates Marc and Layla's and Harrow's as well)

"Jake's song" (At the very end of the end credit scene. Jake doesn't actually sing; it just plays his theme. It sounds similar to Marc and Steven's theme but is definitely different)

Everyone in his life thinks it's weird that he's so interested in birds and not girls. Admits to Al he doesn't see the appeal of sex at all. Very reluctant to go to prom with Doris and had no idea what to do when she parked the car and offered him sex. I can see him developing romantic feelings after close friendship (like with Al) which is why I think he's demiromantic.

Bilbo AND Frodo Baggins (The Hobbit/ The Lord of the Rings)

Both asexual (+ maybe demiromantic, though I can also see Bilbo as aro)

Both remained bachelors all their lives. Bilbo lived alone and later with Frodo who was like an adopted son. Frodo lives for a long time with Sam and Sam's wife Rosie. I personally think that Sam and Frodo are in a romantic relationship, while Sam and Rosie are in a sexual relationship. Frodo seems content with this arrangement which is why I believe he's ace.

Ted Buckland (Scrubs)

Asexual

Simply because of the part where Carla says "I don't want any MAN filming me giving birth unless he's completely asexual" and then Ted walks in with a camera and Carla smiles and says "oh hi Ted!". (I think this was a poorly-aged joke about him being "ugly" more than anything but I'm still claiming it). Also when he sings the duet with Gooch and Gooch says "I want to screw you" while Ted says "I want to kiss you.

Fabian Rutter (House of Anubis)

Asexual

He's nerdy and into space (I know this is a stereotype but representation is scarce I take anything I can get... you get it right). Also his relationship with Nina is very innocent and I can't see him developing sexual attraction even when he becomes an adult.

Dirk Gently and Bart Curlish (Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency)

Dirk- Asexual

Bart- Aromantic

Neither of them have love interests in the show (although Bart/Ken may have been implied) so this is just how I felt about the characters personally. I think Dirk definitely had a crush on Todd and is gay but I don't think he gets sexual attraction. Bart is the opposite. I can see her developing sexual attractions and feelings but being repulsed by kissing/ dating etc.

So someone irl asked me for my Janara headcanons so here goes:

Library. All the time. Janner absolutely LOVES books, and so does Sara. Also in TWatWK when she was reading Artham's poems while at his tree house.... she likes poetry?

Sara likes her coffee in a certain way and Janner is the only one who knows how to make it. Like, Sara doesn't even know how lol

They babysit Artham and Arundelle's kids a lot. Everyone think its cute because EVERYONE in the castle ships them and then there they are with LITERAL CHILDREN.

They take turns watching over Kalmar.

Kalmar is their official third wheel, but sometimes Leeli and Maraly join in being a 4th and 5th wheel

THEY. LIKE. SAILING. PERIOD.

okay I feel like after the events of the entire Saga, they both wouldn't really like adventure but like, maybe a little here and there. Ya know, just to get out of the castle.

I feel like they'd both be good at singing (idk, maybe the First Well water helped Janner's vocal cords or something) BUT THEY SING TOGETHER. They are the type of people that either are completely serious, silent, and reading, or being completely childish and singing duets together. OH, and Leeli third wheels and plays the instruments.

They both love children and offer to watch the kids of all their friends.

Idk, Sara is good with a bow and Janner with a sword so they make a PERFECT team in battle

so like, we all agree that ne bi smel is like, top tier BoKris song, right? Like, the lyrics? The “A žal, drugače nisem znal.” and how Bojan sings them? It just feels like a desperate (ex?)boyfriend trying to get his partner back, knowing he fucked up big time, but knowing his feelings for the partner (kris) haven’t changed.

also, in the live version, @ some points you can hear Kris’ voice more clearly and now I’m just begging for a duet

1)Ne Bi Smel is my favorite Joker Out song, always has been, something about how he puts his whole pussy into screaming I FUCKED UP, I'M SORRY just does it for me

2)when they performed it live a few weeks ago (I think it was Amsterdam? Or maybe the Hague? idk I've been to 3 concerts in 2 weeks my brain is mush) they reached for each other when singing it. I think there's a vid going around of Kris reaching for Bojan but like. They both reached for each other. Bojan in the way you reach towards someone as you sing to them, and Kris reaching back. The video didn't get that part but I have been emotionally compromised since I watched that with my own two eyeballs

Also fun fact, it was news to me that the song was about cheating, because like, it doesn't explicitly mention cheating in the song, it's mostly I'M SORRY I FUCKED UP with an added flavor of "I betrayed you" but that could mean anything, not just romantic cheating, and it just fascinates me what it could be about, I know the leading theory is when the band went on hiatus but to me it feels more personal than that? Even if it was Bojan and Kris' differences that put the band on hiatus?

Anyway it could mean so many things and also if they do a duet of this (or ASTP for that matter) I think I will combust

Thoughts on the Miraculous movie:

I'll go into details and spoilers under the cut but here's the meat of it:

Too many songs that weren't even that good

The dialogues often felt forced and empty

The animation was so pretty, like???? Their hair? All the time? So cool

We get it, the power of love and listening to your heart, you don't have to say it in every scene

Lots of changes compared to the show, some of them were great and it could have been even better BUT:

It was so fucking rushed wtf? Which kind of explains my second point

THEY ROBBED US OF THE TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCES

In conclusion:

I consider this movie as an alternative universe, a "what could have happened" simply because it derives from the TV show canon so much

I also would have enjoyed it a lot more if it weren't for the songs, they really ruined it for me

Spoilers ahead, I'm gonna tell you the WHOLE plot, you have been warned

The songs

Like... Why would they do that? Were they trying to give it a Disney movie vibe? Because it sure felt like it. Marinette/Ladybug felt very Frozen-inspired, and Hawk Moth's song (yes, Gabriel has a song, several in fact) was very Dr Facilier/Rasputin

And the songs themselves were just... Not Good. There were too many and they were so cheesy. We were maybe 20 in the room, most of us adults, and let me tell you after the first few songs the general reaction to a new one were groans. I ended up saying "please don't sing, please don't sing" several times during the movie but of course my prayers were never answered. And I usually love musicals

Cut out all of the songs, they have 0 emotional impact anyway, replace them with some dialogue and more interactions between the characters to make their relationships feel less rushed and it could have been a really good movie

The plot

We basically get a speedrun of 5 seasons in 1h40min: Marinette and Adrien get their miraculous, learn how to super-hero, we get a time skip with lots of fights against akumatized people, Hawk Moth loses his mind because of "the butterfly" (don't ask me, I don't get it either) and because he can't get LB and CN's miraculouses, so he akumatizes himself, which somehow makes him super powerful and he destroys Paris, manages to get Ladybug's miraculous and right as he's about to get Chat Noir's, he realises that that's his son under the mask and.... purifies? himself? because The Power of Love. So everyone learns who Hawk Moth is but they don't seem to realize who Chat is? That's unclear to me. They definitely don't know about Ladybug though, since the "last" scene of the movie is Marinette telling Adrien who she is and this surprises him somehow, even though Marinette de-transformed and re-transformed in front of everyone during the fight against Hawk Moth, but okay

In the background we of course get the love square, which doesn't stay as "CN/Adrien → LB LB/Marinette → Adrien" very long:

Chat Noir and Ladybug sing a whole ass duet together when he tries to confess but at the end she says no and then we're supposed to believe that she's torn between Adrien and Chat Noir all of a sudden. Marinette then tries to invite Adrien to a ball and he refuses (since he just got rejected by the girl he likes) so they're both dejected and heartbroken. But after the boss battle, as I said, Marinette reveals herself to Adrien and they kiss

Have I mentioned that this movie is 1h40min long?

HOWEVER. The scene cuts to Nathalie going into the basement where Emilie's body is because Gabriel asked her to, and we see that Emilie is wearing the peacock miraculous

So, I guess they're teasing a sequel? But Master Fu got the butterfly miraculous back so idk what they'll do and idk if I'll want to watch it if it's another musical

Also, about Hawk Moth/Gabriel: they tried to explain why he wants to destroy Paris by saying that the butterfly miraculous is evil and corrupts your mind the more you use it but... I don't buy it. I just don't. I'd rather have a Gabriel that is so hurt by the death of his wife that he's willing to hurt people of his own free will because he loves her that much and would do anything to bring her back than whatever the hell it is they tried to do here. It could have worked if I hadn't watched the show I think, but since I have...

jrwi characters i think deserve to have an emotional solo musical number that they belt into empty air and are the most vulnerable than they’ve ever been, even if it is only to themselves and to the universe

(or just musical numbers in general i think would be fun if jrwi was a musical for some reason)

all of albatrio but their songs are all very different. though they all do center around personal identity. gill’s is about his conflicted feelings about his destiny, jay’s is about her inner battle regarding her family and wishing things had been different, and chip’s is all about longing for his old crew but also about his need to live up to that legend, even though he knows it’s an irrational motivation.

drey ferin but specifically my idea of him. he loves so easily and has lost so much and been through so much loss of both his birth family, his chosen family, and himself. he fully deserves a dramatic and sorrowful wail into the night. with only the stomp of his boot and the cracking of his voice as instruments.

captain lizzie. i just think she could do with an outlet for her frustration and the hugeness of her goals. i also just think she’d slay tbh

actually all three sisters. lizzie, edyn, and ava. one big song shared between all of them, chock full of longing and frustration and solemn resignation to do what has to be done.

prime defenders

no idea honestly. they already sing so much in the intros i think they’ve got it covered

apotheosis

rumi would have the sickest song about love and loss and not knowing who they’re meant to be and you know i’m right

thanatos should also get something i think. when he was on his own during the fights in the last couple episodes before the finale. maybe a duet with the dude in his programming idk. an argumentative one though

blood in the bayou

have you seen The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals? yeah literally just picture that. straight-up. main thing that doesn’t work super well is the song Not Your Seed, bc it’s between a father and daughter, but if you pretend it’s a sibling thing then it’s perfect. all the other songs from the musical too fit the characters and story so well

It does feel like they masked patrick voice a lot... like, normally when fob is a feature on a song, I'm immediately like - OH PATRICK THERE HE IS! - but this one just felt like... a guy that sort of sounds like patrick?? lol idk I'm not a taylor hater or anything but I DO think patrick is the better singer and part of me wonders if they were afraid he'd out sing her or something tbh lol

I was thinking about this comment in connection with what Pete always says, that people are Fall Out Boy fans because they love Patrick's voice, they would listen to him sing the phone book. And Patrick always modestly rolls his eyes and Pete is definitely being deprecating about the rest of the band and he knows it, but today was a day when I realized: He is not wrong.

Like, I did not fully appreciate the level of familiar comfort the sound of Patrick's voice brings me at this point but it turns out IT'S A LOT lol. Like you, usually when he's a feature when he shows up I'm like, PATRICK, and make hearteyes and swoon, etc. With his voice masked like that, I was just completely adrift and missing him. I always knew that I love Patrick's voice, but my reaction to this song really made me realize how much I depend on it. I turned on the super-controversial "We Didn't Start the Fire," which I thought was GREAT, and Patrick's voice was immediately like a cradle around me lol, I knew I was in good hands.

He definitely can outsing her, and he can even manage to do it with the weird electronic gloss on his voice, he does get himself a couple of moments in the bridge, I think, but I have to confess that the more I listened to this song today, the more I have grown from "oh, it's not great but I guess it's okay," to "wow, I hate this song." I can no longer even make it into his verse lol, now I have to shut it off. So, safe to say this is a song I am going to try to pretend never existed. Not only does he not sound like Patrick Stump, but then he's singing such extremely dull lyrics, this is just not one of Taylor's stronger songs to me at all. I was actually surprised when I saw critics calling it a duet about two people in nervous anticipation of their first date, and I was like, "...two people? who are the two people?" and then realized they were interpreting Patrick's verse as being from the POV of the guy, and I was like, ...Patrick's verse is clearly just an electronic Patrick Stump singing some more lyrics from the woman's POV lol. According to Genius, there are parts where one or the other of them are singing, or they're both singing together, and I can't even figure it out because they just sound so electronically generic to me at this point.

It's a shame because before this song came out I really did think, "Oh, maybe they'll pull off some kind of crazy tour shenanigan!" Like, they're both out touring at the same time, maybe their schedules would go near each other and they would sing this song live but...they are never singing this song live lolololol

And it's doubly a shame because I love them both so much and I was so, so excited for this "collaboration," I've been hoping for a Taylor/FOB collab for literally YEARS, I just really thought they could be so great together, and then I got this thing I hate, sigh. It just seems like such a waste of an opportunity to ask "Fall Out Boy" to join a song and then just autotune Patrick's voice and call it a day. And I definitely knew to expect it, that is how Taylor's collabs generally feel, ESPECIALLY on these vault tracks, but I just underestimated how much I was relying on the comfort of Patrick's voice in the song. Anyway, sad day, lesson is, don't meet your idols, or, wait, don't let your idols meet, or something lol. And also GOOD NEWS, TONIGHT IS A SHOW NIGHT SO THERE WILL BE MORE TOURDUST CONTENT TOMORROW, THANK GOD.

They stopped by Mason McCarthy’s place next, hoping to catch him at home since this week was a non-touring one for the twins and their entourage. “Oh, hello, elders!” he said cheerily as he opened the door. “I thought you might drop by. Elder Anderson, you haven’t seen the music studio yet. Let me give you a tour!”

“Oh!” Blaine answered in surprise. “That's so kind of you. But we actually came here to see if there was anything we could do to help you stay active in the church with all your travel.”

“Not really. I mean, obviously, we can't really do any callings that require us to be in Ingolstadt every week, but Madison makes sure we read the scriptures every day.” Mason waved the two missionaries inside and brought them to the kitchen, where he pushed a bowl of chips at them. “Missionaries are always hungry, right? All that biking everywhere.”

Blaine became aware of the empty pit that was his stomach as Kurt popped several into his mouth. Blaine followed suit as Mason pulled two mineral waters from the fridge.

Kurt took a sip. “What about sacrament, Brother McCarthy? It’s important for you and your sisters to be able to renew their baptismal covenants every week. And I understand you’ve received authorization to hold private sacrament meetings with your family members when you're on the road. Have you started doing that?”

Mason pursed his lips. “Don’t you think one of my brothers would be better suited to do that? Martin and Morris are older than me, and both of them are married.”

“They don't always tour with you though, right?” Kurt said. “I thought that was only for the bigger festivals.”

Mason gazed at Kurt. They seemed to be having some kind of silent standoff, though Blaine didn't quite understand what it was about. Was this something that Kurt had nudged Mason about before Blaine had come to Ingolstadt?

Mason struck his palms together in a single, loud clap. “You know what I’d love to do? Record Elder Anderson playing the piano in our music studio! He was so good at the Easter service. Actually, you two both have amazing voices—you should sing a duet! I’m still not great with the soundboard but this will give me a chance to practice. What do you say?” And with that, he spun around toward the kitchen door and waved for them to follow him.

Blaine ran scales as he thought over what to play. He longed to sing The Circle of Our Love again with Kurt, and he was sure he could figure out the chords with a little effort.

But they were here as missionaries, trying to build Mason up in his faith. Now was not the time for Blaine to woo his companion.

Then again, maybe he could do both at the same time.

He played the first few notes of Finlandia.

“Oh!” Kurt touched his heart with his right hand.

It was exactly the effect Blaine had hoped for.

“Ah, yes,” Mason nodded at Kurt. “This is a lovely hymn.”

“The loveliest,” Kurt said.

So, it was decided. Kurt and Mason left the room and reappeared on the other side of the glass: Mason settling down at the computer, Kurt standing beside him. His eyes were on Blaine, and he was smiling with a soft reassurance.

As Blaine began to play, Kurt’s mouth formed the shapes of the English words:

Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side; With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain. Leave to thy God to order and provide; In ev’ry change he faithful will remain. Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav’nly Friend Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Blaine remembered when they sat side by side on the piano bench in the Schönfelds’ living room the week after Easter. The skin just about Blaine’s elbow tingled from where their arm hairs touched. Kurt’s body had been so wonderfully warm, and his smile irresistible, and they had been so close that Blaine, for the first time, could clearly make out the flecks of color in Kurt’s eyes, blue and green and gold—like standing up close to a Monet painting. Kurt told him the way Blaine played “Be Still My Soul" made him feel the love of God, and something inside Blaine came to life for the first time.

That was the moment Blaine truly fell in love with Kurt, wasn’t it? And he’d had no idea what it was.

okayy so i just finished watching that new disney peter pan remake (“peter pan and wendy”) (also spoiler warning btw-) and honestly. i liked it actually- like the pacing was a bit weird/kinda too fast imo and i’m not a fan of the ending (but to be fair that’s just bc i generally don’t like the ending where the lost boys leave neverland but peter doesn’t so that one isn’t the films fault), but other than that i think it was really good and fairly well made tbh. i would’ve liked some more musical numbers- like the two pirate sea shanties are okay and i don’t wanna complain but damn there’s so much music potential for a story like this tbh. like you could’ve had a song where peter pan actually sings or wendy (im ignoring the lullaby bc i want a song actually about her yk?) or maybe even a duet with them!!!!! i had hope for new music but well meh.

anyway!!! i loved almost all the visuals in the movie and the instrumental background music was really good too! i liked that it was very obviously inspired by the background music of the original tbh!! and i liked the casting tbh, i actually think all the actors did pretty good jobs !!

and the special effects were really good imo! like- not to compare this to the 2003 peter pan movie, but in that older one i always kinda cringed when characters flew around bc i just idk didn’t like how fake it looked- like obviously that’s bc of technical or budget (or both) limitations but still idk- but this time i actually rly liked the way they did the flying for the most part, especially in the scene where they flew to neverland. i also think the set design was really good!!

AND!!!!! i like how literally every aspect (except for the ending lmao) that i disliked in the animated movie was changed- like tinkerbell isn’t blinded by jealousy anymore, the native characters (or well in this case character, since tiger lilly was kinda the only plot relevant one) aren’t such flat caricatures anymore and hook didn’t act so unbelievably ridiculous yk? also i generally just like how well tinkerbell and wendy and tiger lilly got along tbh, because in the older film as we all know they were written in a almost misogynistic way tbh with the way they were reduced to jealousy so much yk? except for wendy kinda but eh. this modern version is SO MUCH BETTER at that, like i don’t think there was any scene where any of the three were really jealous at all unless i missed something lol.

like idk i just like it. it’s definitely different from the original story and from the older movie but not in a necessarily worse way. its similar enough to be familiar and nostalgic but different enough to have its own charme yk? like its no carbon copy and that’s a good thing because it doesn’t try to be and it doesn’t need to be. it humanised almost every character more (even though the pacing again was kinda not ideal lol but it was still enjoyable)!!

i just think it would’ve been good for the movie to have some more transitional scenes or to drag some moments out longer tbh. like there was no moment in my opinion that was really too long, which is good, but there were a few that i think should’ve been longer tbh. it felt not like the movie was rushed but like the viewer was rushed through the plot yk? like there weren’t really any moments to dwell on a situation or to let it sit, except for when wendy was swept onto that beach and when she walked the plank. those two moments were imo well timed. but like especially that scene in james’ peter’s room could’ve handled a few more moments, or the scene before peter left london again when he was talking to wendy yk?

anyway uwu the cinematography was rly well done too imo, and i definitely liked the fight scenes and that scene when they all arrive in neverland :3 and the set design was very good too !!! i also think i liked all the costumes except maybe wendy’s and hook’s jackets cuz like idk, they’re fine but i’m not vibing with them lol. anyway yeah sjdkdjkdjdk- peter pan’s and tinkerbell’s outfits were really good tho imo. and tinkerbell in general was rly good!! idk the actress’ name but she did a great job and whoever did the casting for this whole movie also did great !!!

this is such a cute idea, i feel like i hc them to be the type to just…join each other unannounced. damien gently knocks on the shower door to invite himself in and shayne is all blushy. shayne is faux-offended and bratty that damien didn’t invite him to join so he pretends to cry outside the shower until damien invites him in. they both want to take a bath after a hike so they try to have a romantic bubble bath but both know it won’t last long so they’re just eyefucking staring at each other waiting to make the first move (shayne pounces on top of damien btw). shayne is sore after a workout or ‘other activities’ and wants damien to just cuddle him in the bath but it turns into a round two.

YAYYY okay some hc/opinions

HEADCANONS:

now i haven;t read every helena appearance so idk if any of these are actually canon, but here we go:

as a pianist, one of the highest honors i can bestow onto any character is the ability to play piano. she learned because idk rich mafia family made their daughter learn, so at first playing is something that brings back traumatic memories. eventually, the birds of prey learn that she can play and they (especially dinah) encourage her to play for them! dinah duets <3

also based on that epic scene in batman: brave and the bold i HC that she’s a pretty good singer. obv dinah is the Singer singer of the group, but like when she’s singing while helena’s playing, helena will also sing with her <3

she has a cat in rebirth. this i acknowledge as canon. i headcanon she adopts even MORE.

one of my ideal team ups is between helena, kate kane (apparently they did in the modern comics that i’m not reading), and renee montoya, and at some point in this team up they kind of become a polyamorous trio, though they don’t really label or acknowledge it ?? kate and renee are together and helena just joins in idk

going off that, i headcanon helena as bisexual, but due to how she grew up she never really had the chance to date women or really acknowledge it. iF ONLY because of this one scene where she like. flirts? with talia al ghul during the legacy arc. it was hot. before that obv i had to imagine helena’s sapphic because projection beacon but that moment solidified it. also dinahelena <3 and helenazinda though i don’t see as many ppl talk abt helenazinda (or zinda at all)

i’m a traditional archer, i don’t know anything about crossbows. archers don’t really consider crossbows to be real archery (it’s more like a gun), but i have no idea whether most crossbow users think they’re archers or better than archers or what. due to her friendship with dinah, and remember when helena slept with roy i remember lol, i like to imagine she occasionally will shoot with members of the arrowfam (though neither helena nor any of queen’s brood consider the other like, a True Archer. they don’t hold any animosity or jealousy or think they’re superior, they’re all deadly in their own way.) (traditional archers can feel the same about compound bows too, i’ve never seen any of the arrowfam use a compound bow though so maybe they’re all just purists lol)

i feel like every comic makes her teach a different subject, so i like to imagine she’s a middle school english teacher. it fits with how fast she and 13yo tim bonded. the outsiders, of mice and men, a midsummer night’s dream, and a raisin in the sun are her favorite books on the curriculum; outside of school, she reads mystery series to take her mind off everything.

OPINIONS:

i..... ship postcrisis dick/helena DON'T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT but like they're so much fun, they're literally the epitome of belligerent sexual tension and i just think it's funny. i hate nightwing/huntress (the comic) though bc i felt it reduced helena to being much more brutal and much less intelligent than she actually is (and dick was like weirdly naive about things? guess no one was safe) and all the weird subsequent slutshamingish vibes between helena & babs afterwards. do i think they’d be in a long term relationship? no. do i think they could’ve been a lot of fun for both dick and helena’s character development if they were handled by a ....better writer....? absolutely.

grrr i haven't read her stuff post rebirth, all i know is that NML is now canon (somehow? where did cass come from now idk?), and that helena has powers?? she can see from other people's eyes now. personally if i were to give her a power, it would be something like clear sight, the ability to not be deterred or affected by magical illusions

speaking of NML. while i personally don’t like the idea of the Bat being a legacy mantle to pass down (don’t get me wrong one of my fav eras is dick!batman) i do think that helena should be in the running to be in control of gotham, just as much as, say, dick and cass. must she don the Bat mantle to do so? no that’s one of my least favorite things abt batman comics and why i think knightfall fucking suckedddd how but whatever this isn’t the place

i don’t think she should pass on the huntress mantle or take on a sidekick. i think she loves kids too much and part of her becoming both the huntress and the teacher ms bertinelli is to ensure kids are protected; even her interactions with tim are like her being a big sister and not like a guardian

i absolutely love how she compartmentalizes “helena” and “huntress” as two different people in her mind, with each side of her existing to do what the other side can’t

i love that she’s a teacher. like normally idgaf about what a hero’s day job is, but teaching gives her this whole extra layer of caring for children. like the part in contagion when she, as huntress, goes out to save one of her students? amazing

i have no idea why DC hasn't capitalized on her more. like. daughter of a mafia don makes it her mission to destroy the mafia. people love mafia movies. tarantino. a huntress movie could easily be a blockbuster, but after seeing that birds of prey "crossbow killer" i want nothing. the best huntress movie lives in my head and it will stay there i hate the DCEU so much how do you fuck up all these characters and storylines so badly

i want that witch lady? fortune teller? i forgot her name, the one from huntress 1989. yeah i want her and helena to be friends. usually i don't really like gotham-based vigilantes (especially if they have any connection to The Batman) to interact with magical stuff, but i think that lady served a really interesting purpose in the 1989 comic especially since so much of the focus was unfortunately on violence against women. LA BRUJA that's her name yeah

okay somewhat connected to ^^ i found huntress: year one to be really... weirdly preachy and sexist???? i read it all in one go and immediately had to go clear my head, but IIRC there were all these allusions to the fact that helena is a huntRESS because she's a WOMAN and she's BETTER THAN EVERYONE. a lot of the sexism seemed forced, like something you’d see in a kids’ program about sexism. and then helena like monologuing about how much she hates wearing dresses... it was all very surface level. like i remember thinking it was so interesting that a comic from 1989 dealt with sexism much more sensitively than something from the 21st century, but i've noticed a lot of older DC comics are somehow more progressive than everything afterwards (c.f. the character assassinations to roy, talia, koriand'r, any other woman connected to The Bat, ....) shame bc i love the art style in this comic so much. ah well.
