#or the pines family could all be aro or ace

not to be back on my bullshit already but like. ford talking about how he doesn't understand romance in journal 3 quite literally does not prove he's ace in any sense of the definition unless you assume only ace people struggle with traditional relationship models (literally not fucking true??) or that aro people are always/usually ace (I am beating you with a broom). it's evidence towards him being aro if anything!
but even then I think that's an accidental meaning in the writing. the passage exists to show how detached ford is from the sheer idea of family and how he doesn't understand fiddleford's attachment to his wife and son! it's also a subtle reason to show why the pines family might not notice anything after the portal incident (i.e- ford didn't talk to his parents or sister much, if at all, after moving to gravity falls.)
it's even more frustrating when ppl mention that line... and then make him alloace?????

I'm just gonna throw it out there cuz idk how many people have given you crap about this:
1). Solar labeled himself a "cousin" at EARTHS INSISTENCE. He straight up says that thinking about it in a "familial relationship" way doesnt work and is confusing see KC Eclipse Lunar Bloodmoon etc and hes only told that to Earth. Frankly, I think he, Moon and Sun think of Solar as "member of this family". Also, robots.
2). Moon can still develop feelings for someone, even if he's still aro/ace. I cant see Moon as EVER being the romantic type, and pretty much everyone in THIS show finds any sort of "physical" relationship weird and/or gross. Frankly, I read Solar as aro/ace too, cuz while the dude is CLEARLY capable of pining he really doesn't seem like the romantic type. So shipping Moon and Solar doesnt invalidate anyone's identity, especially since falling in love doesn't have to be romantic or physical *glares judgingly at society*
Also, imagine Solar and Moon going on non-romantic dates. Like they go to an anime convention or something and Moons completely needing out and Solars just like "you're a loser *heart eyes*"
WAIT NO BETTER IDEA!
Sun, who IS a romantic type, is like "I want my brother to have the best so I'm gonna help you guys get together" and Solars just like "pls no" and Sun tries to help make the perfect date, but both members are AGGRESSIVELY romantic and by the end Solar and Moon ditch Sun and like go play God of War or something X3
AH!
Surprisingly, no one has been giving me crap about much. I'm actually surprised with how chill everyone has been and how much on board they are with my silly little ship train idea. I'm actually happy everyone has been really cool and accepting so far.
And yes, this is true, and I went into a few posts about it. One post I went into specifics on the flexibility and "subject to change" nature about relationships in Robots. But agreed.
2. And yeah! Exactly. Back in the Early days of the show, Sun tried to pair Moon up on dates all the time, so it could have been a possibility that the old Moon was Romantic, or he wasn't, and Sun was just misreading the situation.... Also I never got his goal in trying to ship his brother with Roxanne other then to just be a voyeur because he's the one who liked her
And the only reason in my shipping Scenarios why Solar doesn't test his boundaries isn't cause he's acephobic in a majority of my scenarios. but moreso he doesn't want to violate Moon's trust or test his limits. Moon has given him so much, he doesn't want to ruin his friendship or the only home he's ever known.
Also NewMoon said he's "Questioning" right now, and that's also fine. And most likely i'll just draw from my own demi/ace experiences in a lot of ships I like/portray. Because I only know how to write my own experiences. It's not to invalidate others. I'm not every ace person in existence and it's such a wide spectrum so I can't account for everyone. I just write and brainstorm what feels right to me.
And. 3. gehaoghawefh Cute idea.

NAME: Alice Thomasin.
LOVE INTEREST: Meg March.
SUMMARY: Alice had been loving Meg March from afar for as long as she could remember. Though the two young women had never exactly been friends, as it were, since the March sisters were not always able to come to social gatherings and Alice, being the eldest daughter of a wealthy family, was expected to attend all of the ones that were held, they had always been friendly, and it had only taken a view short conversations for Alice to fall into a dizzying, head-over-heels love for the other girl that had lasted a long time. However, she has never been able to be sure that Meg feels the same things she does about other young women, and so Alice has resigned herself to pining from afar and eventually marrying someone that her parents choose for her - until, during a social call to old man Laurence’s nephew results in an offer to spend more time with the March sisters, which leads Alice to believe that, just maybe, she might have a chance with the object of her affection after all.
OTHER INFO:
We’re just gonna pretend that homophobia doesn’t exist in this time period and that two women can marry each other, okay? Okay.
Anyways, yes, meet Alice! My dearly beloved hopeless lesbian who falls in relatively unrequited insta-love with Meg that eventually does turn out to be requited, once it’s been given some time.
Basically she’s over paying a social call to Laurie and his grandfather when the sisters come over to visit Laurie, and Jo really likes her after talking to her for a bit and offers her a membership in their play-writing and performing club, which the others don’t have nearly as much of a problem with as with Laurie given that at least Alice is a girl. Seeing an opportunity to be close to Meg for a while, even if she still can’t have her love returned, Alice accepts immediately.
Their love story is kind of a ridiculous slow burn, because Meg still needs to accept the fact that she likes women before she can even acknowledge whatever feelings she might have for Alice, but they do eventually get together and get married and the whole thing, and it’s so sweet and soft and lovely.
Alice develops an amazing BROTP with Jo, and is actually the one to help the other girl realize that she’s aro-ace (because you can pry aro-ace Jo from my cold dead hands, so why shouldn’t I make it canon if I can?).
send me a fandom and a faceclaim/love interest and i’ll make an oc!!

Love that after I’ve taken a long time coming to terms with the fact that no matter how much I wish I wasn’t I am probably aro after talking to many alloromantic people and finding out there’s as much disconnect there as with sexual attraction, my friend tries to convince me I’m not and my version of a crush (possibly a squish) is still a crush because that’s how she is with it
The amount of amatonormativity needed to say to your friend who claims to be aro that they’re not and that’s how plenty of other people feel instead of realizing you’re probably also aro-spec. Telling me all of my “crushes” where I just decide someone is cool enough to hang out with and good looking enough that I could see them every day that I want them to stay and keep talking/playing games/watching movies with me is a romantic crush instead of thinking for a moment ‘Wait, is there supposed to be more than that?’
Because there is “supposed” to be more. There’s supposed to be longing/pining. I’ve had many friends and close family members who are allo (most alloallo, one alloace) I’ve talked to and before any of them started feeling sexual attraction they had crushes. Many had their first crush was before 4th grade where they wanted to hold hands, sit next to them in class, were desperate for their attention, and drew pictures of them. My friend that’s ace is demi-ro and noticed that switch where he didn’t just want to just be friends anymore with his one crush
I do a lot of romantic things with friends (cuddling, making fancy dinner, giving flowers or cards on Valentine’s Day, flirting of both the romantic and sexual kind) but none of it is with a specific friend. It’s just once you reach the level of being my friend I do that because that’s how I enjoy showing appreciation and that your one of the handful of people in the world I don’t want to die (likely because my parents have a very platonic marriage). If I had real crushes I’d make a special one for ____ or be trying to impress ____ but it’s none of that
I’m super romance favorable. Trust me, I’ve tried denying that I don’t feel romantic attraction. I’m not going to ask the boy out because even though he seems to like me he’s said he’s straight, recently. I don’t want to get in a relationship where a person is expecting romantic and sexual attraction in return from me and I can’t provide on either one. Even if I’m favorable and indifferent it would be friends with benefits that live together from my head. I’d be cool with that but I don’t think he would be

"How pissed would I be if they got a heterosexual love interest in OW2?" - a tier list
Explanations below cut:
"GOD PLEASE NO" category:
Bastion: Not that I don't think that Bastion shouldn't have enough agency to flirt, it's only that Blizz would force Bastion to be male and their love interest to be female and THAT would make me furious. Plus there's so much more interesting things you could do with their character. If hetero romance is the only spot where my bot gets screen time there's going to be violence.
Soldier 76 and Tracer: should be pretty fucking obvious lmao
Reinhardt: If I attempted to explain my reasoning on why Rein is aro/ace this post would be incomprehensible. TL;DR I want this old and still single character to not lament about how he's somehow incomplete just because he didn't find a romantic relationship. If I ever hear the words "I regret that I didn't settle down" come out of Reinhardt's mouth I'm assassinating Blizzard's lead writers.
"Mad" category:
Ashe: they'd just write her as a tsundere. Plus have you seen this woman she's so gay. I'm claiming her for the lesbians.
Moira: I just think she'd much rather use the men close to her in her life as lab experiments instead, you know?
Orisa: To be fair, do you really think she'd be interested in any romance at all at this point in her life? Romance isn't going to protect Numbani.
Symmetra: Not that I don't think she shouldn't be in a romantic relationship, it's just that I think she deserves a girlfriend, you know? I can feel it in my bones. Plus I think blizz would try and make Lucio or perhaps a Vishkar employee the hetero love interest and THAT would piss me off so badly.
Sigma: this man needs therapy first, jesus christ
Ana: This woman's already sacrificed her family once in the line of duty. She just flat out wouldn't seek out another vulnerable connection like that, I think.
"annoyed" category:
Junkrat: this dude getting any screentime would annoy me, actually, so I guess I'm not biased against him being straight??
Mercy: She's already so cookie-cutter already!! Being straight would somehow make her even more statistically average as a character!!
Pharah: I would prefer that the writers focus on her mommy issues first.
Sombra: I could see her fucking around to manipulate men for information but I think she's got too much of a complex to actually let herself be emotionally vulnerable in that sort of way a love interest demands.
Hanzo: this man is sad and pathetic. no woman would be attracted to him. (WAIT ACTUALLY ALTERNATE JOKE- he had a wife and now he's post-divorce with zero fix-it tension. I think that'd be funny, actually. I would accept that.)
"Neutral but still not wild about it" category:
Reaper: whatever Blizzard is planning with his old family is probably going to come to fruition, and I can honestly say I'm indifferent as I never was a R76 shipper.
Cole: He's charming enough. Seeing him flirt with women wouldn't be like pulling teeth.
Widowmaker: "redemption through love interest" sort of thing?? I'd probably be madder if I actually cared about her as a character. She's also here because of Gerard shenanigans. Angsty murder-regret-pining for him would be tolerable.
Baptiste: see Cole's notes, but also add in the interaction that confirms he canonically loves MILFs
Echo: "learning how to be human through love with a man" falls just close enough to the manic pixie dreamgirl trope to set off my alarm bells but not enough for me to place her any higher on the list.
Doomfist: I could see him having an evil wife that's doing the evil shenanigans with him. Actually, I would like to see whatever design Doomfist's wife might have. I think that would be badass as hell. But on the flipside there's an equal chance that Blizz could think that pairing him with a non-evil innocent little lady could redeem him or add angst or something and that keeps him thoroughly out "okay" territory.
"Okay, I could be on board" category:
(there's a surprising amount of people here!)
Lucio, D.va, and Mei: These three all fall under the same category for me, and that category is "I think they'd be cute with their crushes". Of all the Overwatch caste, these three give me the strongest hetero vibes. I can't explain it. I apologize
Roadhog: I could be on board with him finding a gal that softens him up. Only caveat is that the gal shouldn't be conventionally attractive either or I will eat Blizzard alive.
Winston: Have you seen this guy? I think it'd be cute as hell to have him try to flirt with girls. "but he's a gorilla-" shut the fuck up. Let him have his moment!
Zarya: okay here I have to explain. You were probably expecting her to be up in the "GOD PLEASE NO" category because you thought I might claim her for the lesbians. And that assumption. . . kind of pisses me off? Because every frat gamer boy back in 2016 looked at her nontraditional femininity and the only way their puny minds could rationalize seeing a woman that wasn't tailor-made for their boners was to just slap the lesbian label onto her. She got labeled a dyke as a very hostile thing against her character, so I think it would actually be more forward-thinking for her to be open to male love interests. Bi or straight women shouldn't have to fear "looking too masculine" in their search for men. TL;DR I think she'd appreciate a femboy
Zenyatta: He's just so sweet! He can be in love with anybody he wants to lol, man or woman or neither.
Brigitte: Okay, okay, this one's on me, but Brigitte reminds me way too much of my sister, who is happily married to her loving husband and I can't get that out of my brain. I apologize.
Genji: He's almost exclusively here for the joke that he's been happily married to a loving wife for three years now, and nobody knows about it because he keeps his private and work life extremely separate, and he just never thought to bring it up until Torbjorn mentioned anniversaries. Just to really, really stick it to post-divorce Hanzo and whatever Soldier 76 has going on with Vincent. (I'm not sure why this bit is funnier when it's a wife instead of a husband, but it is. Trust me.)
Hammond: I want him to have a human girlfriend back in Junkertown. No explanation. She even knows he's a hamster. She doesn't care.
"(Canonically married to the opposite sex)" category:
Torbjorn: Torb my beloved you're doing amazing sweetie, you go spoil that wife of yours!! You treat her nice and well!!!
--- tag section
@ow-anteater I apologize but I need you to see this. You should make your own tierlist lol I'm interested in your thoughts on the matter.

Even More Fic Recs
We’re still doing it, folks! All of these are single works, and if you’re curious there is a fic recs post coming that is all series, no single fics. So be on the lookout for that if you’re curious. Long post, fics under the cut
i missed me more by AslansCompass
a Percy Jackson and the Olympians fic about an aro/ace child of Aphrodite. Because if living in a world where an actual love goddess exists is hard when you’re aro/ace, imagine being the daughter of that goddess.
this fic IS part of a series that I will recommend later - for now this is the only work i have bookmarked
when the sun came up, I was looking at you by suzukiblu
did you ever want a hilariously funny miscommunication story that is also set in space and is full of Poe/Finn/Rey? If you did, this is the one for you! The premise is that, since food is so rare on Jakku, proposing involves people giving each other food as a gift. Rey arrives in the resistance and hilarious miscommunications ensue
Trade by SassySnowperson
hurt/comfort? Tatooine worldbuilding? A canon divergence where someone takes care of Obi-Wan and gives him the attention and love he deserves? That someone being the combined forces of Owen Lars and Beru Whitesun? THIS ONE HAS IT ALL
Mischief is its Own Reward by dalniente
this is probably the best Megamind fic I’ve ever read. A fake dating story where Roxanne brings Megamind with her for the holidays combined with copious amounts of fluff, pining, getting together, and open, honest communication! So good! My fave! Best fic!
Stranger Than Fiction by cereal
did you finish Broadchurch wanting Alec and Ellie to get together and be a cute, slightly oblivious couple? Read this, it’s awesome
richochet by PaintedVanilla
this is just...an excellently in-character fic where Alec is forced to confront his feelings when he and Ellie end up on a date together. Plus there’s sweet family banter between Alec and Daisy and just go read this one it’s great
A Quiet Night At Home by nightrose
A ‘Sherlock comes back after Reichenbach’ story where it’s calm and fluffy and soft in all the right ways. The best post-Reichenbach story out there, it did for John and Sherlock what an entire tv show couldn’t - gave them a happy ending. And it did it all in less than 700 words
To See a Soul by slothemperess
a double whammy soulmate au and wingfic! This story lived rent-free in my head whenever I thought about Jarida from the time I first read it on FFnet until I was finally able to track it down and bookmark it on Ao3 so, you know...it’s awesome and you should give it a read
Having It Sorted by AlabasterInk
a Harry Potter crossover where the Sorting Hat becomes friend and confidante to a group of immortal spirits. You guessed it, it’s an RoTBTD fic and it’s brilliant!
you are a paradigm by 1electricpirate
the first and so far only Potterlock story I’ve ever read, this one is excellent and makes me happy in all the right ways. And I’m not the only one, judging by the amount of collections this story has been added to
Intervention by Asidian
ugh, this one hits me in the feels. A post-Avengers story where Thor finds out that Loki’s punishment by Odin was far worse than he could have imagined and goes to Tony to ask for help. Full of hurt/comfort and family bonds, this fic singlehandedly reversed my expectations of Thor in the fic I write
It is gory so beware, but not at the expense of the story
To Be Modified As Necessary by ignipes
did you ever wonder what the ten rules the Avengers needed to live together peacefully were? Find out in this excellent story!
Regulus Black and the Way Things Changed: A Not!Fic by imaginary_golux
like the title says, this isn’t really a fic. What this is, is a series of bullet points re-telling the entire Harry Potter saga from the ground up with the premise that Regulus Black becomes the turncoat that Dumbledore takes in. It’s absolutely not canon-compliant but that doesn’t matter because it’s funny enough to make me die laughing
Harry Potter and the Lack of Lamb Sauce by imagitory
it begins as a story based off the premise that instead of Slughorn, Gordon Ramsey is hired to be Harry’s potion teacher in his sixth year. It ends as a complex re-telling of the sixth and seventh books from the perspectives of several different witches and wizards all caught up in a war that is spinning them out of control. Seriously brilliant, you should read it. Even though it’s 99 chapters long
wonderterror by peradi
the Skywalkers, being descended from the Force, are not entirely human. A fic in three parts exploring that concept. Full of eldritch horrors and Skywalker drama, I wish this story was canon
How Far the Stars Fall, How Bright They Burn by Jahaliel, Ms_NothingSpecial
I’ll admit, I’m not that well-versed in the Clone Wars lore, but that almost doesn’t matter because the lyrical writing and amazing premise of this story makes up for that in spades. This is an AU where Order 66 doesn’t go as planned thanks to Force intervention and that’s just the tip of the iceberg
Feathers by SolarMorrigan
a character study of an autistic Newt Scamander and how he functions in a world that feels like it is designed to overwhelm him. I feel seen by this story, go check it out
Severus Snape and the Midnight Tea by inmyownlittlecorner
what is it like teaching potions to Luna Lovegood? And will she teach Severus something in return? A beautiful story about Severus and Luna in the oddest of friendships.
Let’s Do the Same as They by halotolerant
a Captain America story where Bucky, Peggy, and Steve run into another trio who has a similar relationship to theirs. A crossover between Captain America and Singing in the Rain doesn’t feel like it should work, but it definitely does and leaves me wanting more.
Mandala by Roberly
another soulmate au, this one a Sherlock story where soulmates find each other by coloured swirls that form matching unique mandalas on each others arms. Lots of worldbuilding and an ending that made me laugh out loud!
A Cloak of Moonlight by Gehayi
an evocative, richly-told story that takes the story of the 12 Dancing Princesses and expands into a world with lore and backstory. This story also fleshes out the princesses a bit more and makes their story more sympathetic and tragic and...oh just go read it. I can’t do it justice
How These Days Grow Long by Never_Says_Die
I read this story once, years ago, and I never forgot it. It’s a Walking Dead AU where Daryl and Glenn were dating before the apocalypse and got separated at the start of it. It’s a journey of a story that makes me feel so many things, especially Daryl and Glenn emotions. I had never thought of shipping these two but by the end of this fic I was convinced of their relationship
Ryan Bergara and the WTF Patronthingy by raven_aorla
to round off this list, yet another Harry Potter AU! This one is a crossover with Buzzfeed: Unsolved with lots of friendship and hurt/comfort included!

So I saw your tags on your most recent reblog on how your fb was all pan and bi, family would say you’re a lesbian but you’re more multi gender and some type of ace…. Relatable. Except im cisgender. But sometimes I think I’m bi/ pan and others I think I’m some type of ace…. which are like polar opposite of each other 🙃 anyway I try not to think too much about labels and just be like ‘if I’m single forever I’m ok with it and if I fall for a man, woman, NB, that’s cool too’ but it’s overwhelming. Your tags was the first time I saw someone else say they fit in the ace and bi/ pan boxes and it just felt comforting so I wanted to say thanks for sharing that 🥹 this stuff is overwhelming atm
hi anon! I’m glad you could see a little of yourself in me and know you’re not alone and I have good news. From what I’ve seen, it’s remarkably common to be ace or aro (or some flavor of aroace) and also bi/pan! Of course, common is relative, but as far as people on this site and in otherwise queer spaces, I think it’s not out of the ordinary at all. My partner is on the aromantic spectrum and bi! And quite a few of my friends are aces of various orientations. We don’t have to be opposites! And honestly, it’s okay to be a seeming contradiction - that’s what queerness is here for!
I’ve always had very mixed feelings on sex and relationships - I find crushing on/pining for someone altogether more satisfying than actually attempting to date them in most cases. The reason my (current, getting close to a decade long) relationship works out for us both is that we were (and are) 100% best friends who want to spend their lives together first and foremost. I also think feeling okay with not having that kind of relationship, but not being against it is very common, too! Honestly a lot of people would be much happier if they were not overly concerned with finding a relationship.
You’re welcome to come back (anon or not) to talk more if you’re feeling too overwhelmed or have questions. I’ve been trying to reconcile all the different aspects of myself for years and have been through a lot of exploratory phases with friends and partners as they’ve tried to make sense of things for themselves, too. 💜

self-imposed ask game question answering as a system exercise!
Answering ones we know we have an immediate answer to. I'll probably challenge myself to answer harder ones sometime soon :] ~
3. How do you figure out who you are in the moment?
Usually we do something or react to something in a way where we're like "Haha [alter] would totally do that" ... "wait a minute—". then we try to Feel Our Vibe to confirm it. sometimes we can, sometimes we can't.
7. What’s sexuality like for you? Does having multiple parts affect your relationships?
It's a fucking mess </3. We don't have nor have we actually ever had a romantic relationship, but it's certainly made crushes and pining extremely difficult to navigate.
Some of us love the idea of romance. Some of us are neutral about it. Some of us hate romance and think it's stupid/fake/etc. Then some of us like exclusively men. While some of us are bi. Some are aroace. Some are aro w/ sexual attraction. Some are ace w/ romantic attraction. Some have no idea and don't care.
And before we were aware of the system, this made romantic endeavors practically impossible. Oh I really like this guy... Ew no I don't?! Love is a lie, I'm never getting involved with romance. Love is what makes the world go round, I need a partner!!! Man, that girl is really attractive. Yeah I just can't see myself ever being attracted or being interested in women. It's never happened, soooo. And so on lmao.
12. Do any of your parts have special relationships with eachother? Would you like to share about some?
Yep! We have two littles who are twins, and then they also have a little sibling! So 3 of our littles are family. That's the only relationship/connection any of our alters have with one another that we are aware of.
13. Do you have parts that oppose eachother? (In views, personality, ect)
Oh god yes. Honestly that's what kinda got us to start questioning being a system. We'd share an opinion with friends, or make some type of comment on something. Then later (sometimes even that same day lmao) look back and go "Huh? Why did I say that... I don't think that. Like at all. Wtf...?" We could still remember doing it, but it was like... It didn't feel like "I" had said that. I had just chalked it up to BPD for awhile until I finally had more Realizations, lol.
14. Who’s the part that is most likely to deal with high-stress situations first?
Hmm... either Nine or Locke, probably. Though it depends what the stressor is/what happened. Because Night gets triggered to front usually whenever the stress is specifically someone doing something that violates our boundaries, values, self-respect, etc. Which does happen in this house often lmao.
While Nine is our primary protector and fronts in either more general stressful events or events where it wasn't super interpersonally sensitive. Though he almost always handles interpersonal arguments and assertive communication.
Locke is kinda... tbh don't really know what his deal is exactly. He seems to front when we really need to not be emotionally there At All. His emotions are very dull, but they're still there. He's just calm and regulated. It's extremely difficult to rile him up. This seems to happen in stressful situations where no action on our part is needed. We don't need to actively protect ourselves because we either won't need to at all or don't need to yet.
18. Are there any reoccurring themes or symbolism in your system? Would you like to share about it?
The only one I can think of is wearing earrings KDJNSJD. Like, almost every teen and up alter has earrings, even (or especially) the guys. Does kinda make sense personally. For some reason as a kid I just... really loved the idea of earrings and getting my ears pierced. But I never could.
25. Do you know what your parts look like? If so, how do you visualize them?
Most of them, yeah. Usually it starts out, upon discovery, getting flashing images in my head on a few main physical characteristics. Typically hair color, vague hairstyle, and a facial expression. Then I try to focus on that to get a clearer image and/or acquire more details on other parts of their appearance. Lastly, I go to picrew and just kinda trial and error the rest. Try and let them tell me what to pick or otherwise push me in the correct directions. Then if they eventually front, it may get refined by them.
27. Has anyone ever told you something you did or said without you knowing?
YEAH LOL. It hasn't happened too many times, but it's happened. Typically it's about sometime in the relative past, though.
I always thought I had a really good memory, and to my knowledge I did. I always shocked people with remembering minor things in surprising detail. And I never had any trouble with memorization when it came to assessments in school. I liked to refer to my memory growing up as "semi photographic". I could study a piece of paper, say a page from a study guide, for a few minutes and I'd have it memorized. I could visualize it in my head and read it from that visualization with very high accuracy. I could remember and recall things I heard, or parts of them, almost exactly word-for-word. But it didn't seem to be 100% on par with how photographic memory was usually described.
So when someone referenced something I supposedly did, like, 6 months–a year ago, and I can't remember ANYTHING about what they're talking about, it was very unnerving. Something that many others also very clearly remember me doing. Sometimes I would think they're messing with me if it was just one person. Like yeah right. If I have no memory whatsoever of doing that, I obviously didn't actually do it. I of all people would surely remember.
29. How many known parts do you have, if you can count?
As of 1/1/23, I am aware of 18 alters, not including me.
Because uh... I honest to god do not know if whoever I am is the host, or if maybe "I'm" just the persona we've masked as for like almost a decade now. Like a bow on a present, if that makes any sense. Am I [Host]? Or am I an already known (or unknown) alter masking and just using the name we've gone by for 8+ years now?? No idea!!

Introducing Wolf, the leader of the Order of the Abnormals, feared even among their own kind
Name: Wolf
Age: I haven’t really given much thought to an exact age, but probably around mid to late 20s.
Gender: they don’t outwardly identify as non-binary, but more so use that ambiguity as an advantage against their enemies. They know their gender, and that’s all they care about. Wolf could not care less about telling other what they are, they prefer the secrecy.
Sexuality: aro/ace
Abnormality Classification: Shifter
Power Rank: Trifecta
Tattoo Marking: a crimson wolf head with a black circle around it
About: Wolf was born to Abnormal parents not long after Abnormals started appearing. When they were around 12, a law was passed legalizing the murder of Abnormals. Their family fled in an attempt to stay safe, but hunters caught up to them. Wolf’s parents were killed before them, and Wolf was taken and sold to a rich collector where they spent the next 6 years. There they developed their gift, growing stronger as hate fueled them, one day, Wolf was able to break free from their cage. Wolf killed their captors and freed the other Abnormals. From there, the Order grew, with Wolf at its head. They surrounded themselves with four others, to be known as the Circle.
During a raid on an auction house for Abnormals, Wolf met Tigress, a young Shifter who had also lost her parents. Despite their distaste for relationships, Wolf took Tigress in as their Heir. They mean to train Tigress to one day take their place as leader of the Order, and they have promised her revenge for her parents.
Wolf’s tendencies border on sociopathic. They have little interest in intimate relationships themselves, but see the value in those bonds through manipulation. This is most clearly seen with Fang, their second in command. Fang quite clearly pines over Wolf, and Wolf uses that emotion to get him to do exactly what they want.

Books Where The Ace Character Has A Relationship
There needs to be more of these. Some of us do want relationships!
Tumblr media
All these books have canon ace characters - word on the page vs headcanons fyi.
1) Let's Talk About Love by Claire Kann. This book gets a lot of buzz, as it should, for its portrayal of a black ace girl navigating a relationship. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/31625039-let-s-talk-about-love
2) Chameleon Moon by RoAnna Sylver, and the other stories about Parole. This has a poly relationship with an ace character and a whole lot of other rep. It reads like a blockbuster action movie, if that's your thing. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/31938167-chameleon-moon
3) Thaw by Elyse Springer. Featuring a relationship between a model and a librarian, I love how this is such a standard romance novel. All the beats are there - it's just got an ace woman in it ^_^ https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32673586-thaw
4) The Spy with the Red Balloon by Katherine Locke. Wolf is demisexual (hello ace brethren) and his romance is his B-plot. This is completely okay because trying to sabotage Hitler takes priority. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/38650956-the-spy-with-the-red-balloon
5) Returning to You by Gwen Tolios. That rare partnership between an ace and aro character (neither of whom are aro ace), full of pining, family drama, and going from friends to lovers. As aces do. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60497147-returning-to-you
6) Three Stupid Weddings by Ann Gallagher. Fake dating, friends to lovers, but make it gay and ace? Yes. You need this. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41074778-three-stupid-weddings
7) His Quiet Agent by Ada Maria Soto. This is a classic ace romance, released way back in 2017, that reads like the gentle sickfic in the hurt/comfort tag on Ao3. Nurse your ace coworker back to health, and now you're a couple. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35238838-his-quiet-agent?ref=nav_sb_ss_1_9
8) Making Love by Aidan Wayne. This features an aro and a ace character realizing they're falling for each other in a world of cupids and succubi. Suuuper fluffy. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/33120447-making-love?ref=nav_sb_ss_1_26
9) Enchanted Soles edited by Sasha Miller. This is a queer anthology featuring stories about shoes, but the last story called Hallowed Veil is the gold star. It features TWO ace characters, one in a relationship, and highlights the spectrum of desires. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/30075296-enchanted-soles
10) How to Be Ace: A Memoir Of Growing Up Asexual by Rebecca Burgess. Non-fiction graphic novel about growing up ace, including dating troubles. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/54403237-how-to-be-ace

Undine's Child
Her watermark was creeping down her legs. Each day, another scale. She slathered lotion on, hoping to prevent the itch as it replaced skin. She showered daily, seeking the soothing sense of water.
Her dad had warned her. Going to college so far from saltwater might be a problem, but she'd dismissed it. Surely, she could spend a semester away from the ocean.
And she had, her first year. And her second. But her first scales had started showing up before Thanksgiving this year, hidden only by jeans to be washed away when she went home for Christmas. Now, April was around the corner, she had a month left of classes, and her scales would soon peak out of her workout capris.
They always started on the back of her thighs, hard to see, hard to scratch. Better than her hips, where waistbands would chafe, or other more obvious places. There was a lot of space on her thighs, and they were easy to hide, but they'd hit the back of her knees this morning and they'd continue down the back of her legs.
Spraying saltwater on them hadn't worked. Nor soaking in a salt bath. She needed the ocean, her legs needed the relief of her dad's home, but she needed to pass her classes. Needed her degree.
Give me five weeks, she prayed. Five weeks to hide what I am.
And then the summer to figure out how to deal with them for all of next year.

Aro Books For Aro Week
It's Aro week! I've read more ace books than aro books, but I did want to share a few.
1) Common Bonds. This is an anthology where each story features an aro characters - how cool is that? https://bookshop.org/books/common-bonds-a-speculative-aromantic-anthology/9781775312970
2) A Promise Broken by S.L. Dove Cooper. This is the first aro rep book that I read, so I'll always remember it just for that, but it's also a lovely tale about grief. I will say it's a very active read - the reader has to put together a few clues about the story because the narrator is mostly an unreliable child. https://dovelynnwriter.com/books/a-promise-broken/
3) Making Love by Aidan Wayne, though the aro rep is small. It's noteworthy cuz Leeta comes from a society that is typically aro and she's an exception, falling for an ace cupid. This book is just the fluffiest. https://www.amazon.com/Making-Love-Aidan-Wayne-ebook/dp/B01MRA15MR
4) The Dragon of Ynys by Minerva Cerridwen. This is a cozy, low-stakes fantasy with an (older!) aro-ace knight on a quest to find a missing person. Queer rep all around. https://bookshop.org/books/the-dragon-of-ynys/9781945009686
5) Tarnished are the Star by Rossie Thor. This book got a lot of support from the ace community, but the character is actually aroace - both! If you like steampunk, but want it in space, this is for you. https://bookshop.org/books/tarnished-are-the-stars/9781338312270
6) The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee. Felicity is aro/ace and is far my fav rep I've read. You know right away she'd rather pursue science than marriage & then whoops! She's tangled with pirates. While it's the second in a series, they're world series so there's no need to read book 1 to understand this one. (I think this one is better anyway.) https://bookshop.org/books/the-lady-s-guide-to-petticoats-and-piracy/9780062795335
7) Hazel's Theory of Evolution by Lisa Jenn Bigelow. This one is another aro/ace MC, but it's so casually queer w/ other identities and disabled rep. I love it. Noteworthy for being an MG read and contemporary. All other books on this list are SFF and either adult or YA. https://bookshop.org/books/hazel-s-theory-of-evolution/9780062791177
8) In the Ravenous Dark by A.M. Strickland. I devoured this book last year, but know it's an *upper* YA dark fantasy with a lot of necromancy and violence. Aro/ace side character, but also poly rep. Did want to call out there are spicy scenes in this book! It may not be for every aro-ace reader. https://bookshop.org/books/in-the-ravenous-dark/9781250776600
9) Returning to You by Gwen Tolios. Aka me! This is releasing in June and is a contemporary romance between two women, both of whom are bi, where one is ace and one is aro. https://www.amazon.com/Returning-You-Gwen-Tolios-ebook/dp/B0B4FDYNP6/

My #1 post of 2022
10 Ace Books For Ace Week
As an ace author and reader, I'm all for more examples of rep to read and authors to support. Below are just a few of my favs, but I have a larger list here: Gwen's Ace Book Recs and you're always welcome to hit me up for recs!
----
1) The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee. Felicity is aro/ace and I love how up in your face her aceness is. A true integral part of the character.
2) Common Bonds. While actually an anthology with an aro focus, there's also ace rep and I love how varied this collection is. So many aro and ace stories all bundled up neatly is still such a dream. https://bookshop.org/books/common-bonds-a-speculative-aromantic-anthology/9781775312970
3) Making Love by Aidan Wayne. Thinking about this, it might be the first book I've read where the ace character wasn't also aro. It's about an ace cupid trying to help someone find love, and missing a fair amount of cues. It's a fluff dream. https://www.amazon.com/Making-Love-Aidan-Wayne-ebook/dp/B01MRA15MR
4) Returning to You by Gwen Tolios. A friends-to-lovers romance between two women, both of whom are bi, where one is ace and one is aro. Be prepared for a fair amount of family drama from both sides (including fake dating!) https://www.amazon.com/Returning-You-Gwen-Tolios-ebook/dp/B0B4FDYNP6/
5) How to Be Ace by Rebeca Burgess. Memoir graphic novel full of experiences that I could relate to that's good to share with local aces or allos. My local ace community has 100% passed around a copy of this. https://bookshop.org/a/55449/9781787752153
6) Tarnished are the Stars by Rossie Thor. This book got a lot of support from the ace community, it's own voices and has quite a bit of queer rep. If you like steampunk, but want it in space, this is for you. https://bookshop.org/books/tarnished-are-the-stars/9781338312270
7) Hazel's Theory of Evolution by Lisa Jenn Bigelow. Aro/ace MC, but it's so casually queer w/ other identities and disabled rep. I love it. Noteworthy for being an MG read. I'm so glad to see ace rep hitting middle schoolers. https://bookshop.org/books/hazel-s-theory-of-evolution/9780062791177
8) Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire. This is the first time I saw 'asexual' in a book, and for that it will always be dear to me. This launches a great series about children who have returned from portal-fantasy adventures and the trade versions all have amazing illustrations. https://bookshop.org/a/55449/9780765385505
9) Simply an Enigma by Brittany Evans and Chelsea Lauren. I'll admit I have a love-hate relationship with this book, but it's such an accurate portrayal of the journey to identifying as ace it has a permanent place on my shelf. https://bookshop.org/a/55449/9781732464315
10) Three Stupid Weddings by Ann G. Cute, short romance about bringing a friend to weddings as your date and oh! You're now a couple by summer's end. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41070264-three-stupid-weddings

The Hitachiin Twins vs The Pines Family (aka Why I’m Anti-Pinecest)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the record, I’m against incest in every way, shape, and form - cousins, step-siblings, twincest, etc. - whether it’s real, fictional, or mythological. But my reasons for being anti-Pinecest go a little further beyond *shudders*, *gags*, and just plain Nope. And to better demonstrate my point, I thought I would compare & contrast the Pines Family with the Hitachiin Twins from the Ouran High School Host Club anime. Because, while I don’t ship the Hitachiin Twins with each other At All, I will acknowledge their bond lends itself towards twincest more than either set of Pines Twins.
See, everyone at the start of Ouran High School Host Club treats the Hitachiin Twins like one entity. Their servants, their classmates, the other members of the Host Club. Even the animators are guilty of this - in the intro, the Hitachiin Twins never get solo shots despite all the other members of the Host Club getting at least one solo scene each. And in the show proper, the Hitachiin Twins are always seen on-screen together, either reciting a script to impress their clients or speaking, moving, even thinking as one. It’s not until Haruhi joins the Host Club and treats the Hitachiin Twins as two people rather than one entity that Hikaru & Kaoru start to explore their individuality - wearing different outfits that become more distinct as the two become more confident in their separate identities, having different opinions of people or activities, even getting a few scenes apart here & there.
It’s hard to say why this is - did outsiders failing to acknowledge the Hitachiin Twins as individuals cause them to reflexively shut out everyone but each other, or did Hikaru & Kaoru’s reluctance to separate or bond with others lead to outsiders reflexively seeing them as two indistinguishable halves of one being?
Whatever the reason, the Hitachiin Twins by the time the anime begins are so perfectly in sync they might as well be one character. With these two, twincest isn’t about two people being in romantic love no matter what society says - it’s more like one consciousness split between two bodies. Like the Topaz Fusion in Steven Universe, or the Heretic & the Wanderer in the new Dark Crystal series.
This is NOT the case with either set of Pines Twins.
The writers of Gravity Falls did a great job establishing all the members of the Pines family as individuals first, someone’s twin second. Dipper and Mabel spend a lot of on-screen time together, but they also get plenty of opportunities to demonstrate their individuality. There are plenty of cutting remarks that either Hikaru or Kaoru could say without sounding out of character, but Dipper getting excited about an 80s themed dance party would be about as weird as Mabel staying up all night reading books about code cracking. Stan was intitally introduced as his own person, not one half of a set of twins. The reveal of Ford recontextualized a lot of idiosyncrocies about Stan’s backstory, but it didn’t change his personality. Ford was a latecomer to the show, but he set himself apart from his brother right at the start.
Both sets of Pines Twins can be unstoppable forces when they work together, but they can also stand on their own two feet. Dipper and Ford aren’t as social as their counterparts, but that doesn’t mean they’ve completely shut themselves off from others like the Hitachiin Twins.
So if Mystery Twincest & Stancest aren’t based on two people acting like one, like the Hitachiin Twins, then where did they come from? Are they based on the simple fact that both sets of Pines Twins love each other? You guys know it IS possible to love someone without feeling any romantic or sexual attraction, right?
I’m not sure what the situation is like in other countries, but here in America there’s this weird, pervasive idea of putting romantic/sexual affection above all other forms of love. Oh, these two people shared a hug? Must be True Love! Wait, they’re related? Ooh, gotta be incest! The Ancient Greeks believed there were at least four different kinds of love, with romantic/passionate love (Eros) being far from the most important.
So, while there is no doubt in my mind both sets of Pines Twins love each other, I would categorize their love as either Philia (virtuous, dispassionate love for friends & family) or Storge (love of family, usually between parent & child but could also qualify for siblings). Sweet, unrelenting, and 1,000,000,000% NOT SEXUAL OR ROMANTIC!!!

Tom Hardy Movies rated least to most queer
I made a list of some Tom Hardy movies and I rated them based on my own, non-specific criteria about what makes a movie queer. Results below the cut.
(Some films not included, because I haven’t watched them yet, because Mr Hardy’s only in them for a few minutes, because the subject matter doesn’t lend itself to this list, or because I just don’t want’em here. TV series also not included. The list is organised into both groups and ratings, because I’m doing The Most.)
Movies are divided into four groups and rated from 0 – 10 on the Queer-Scale, scroll down to the bottom if you want the ratings without the commentary.
Disclaimer: This list is subjective. Don’t come at me because I didn’t rate Inception higher, Nolan himself is as queer as cargo shorts.
1. This movie would make more sense if it were queer
If this movie were queer it… might not become a perfect film all of a sudden, but it’d make a hell of a lot more sense than what’s actually going on. With an occasional dose of “are the cis-straights okay?”
This Means War (2012): So Chris Pine and Tom Hardy are ostensibly both in love with Reese Witherspoon, but say “I love you” to each other pretty much constantly throughout the movie and their friendship is often presented as a domestic partnership. Cool, cool, cooool.
Queer Rating: 2 out of 10. This movie hate-crimed me by having Tom Hardy literally spell out his relationship with Chris Pine, only for the script to then have him say… “can you imagine all that… but with a woman…” Later on the movie explicitly denies polyamory is possible. Fuck this film.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012): Batman movies should always be queer. Mr. Hardy’s the only one who acceptably camps it up, despite Nolan’s best attempts to make him “acceptably gruff.” No matter what you do, Bane is a massive daddy in a mask and thanks to Mr Hardy’s honestly iconic fucking speech pattern in this film, it goes from pretty atrociously straight to just queer enough to imagine a future where Robert Pattinson plays batman and maybe adopts a bunch of kids.
Tumblr media
(the only truly decent mask in this franchise tbh)
Queer Rating: 3 out of 10. Mr Hardy’s back is the one that’s actually broken carrying any semblance of fun in this overly long movie all on his own.
Lawless (2012): Wow, this really was the year of the not-queer-enough, wasn’t it? Look, it’s “based on a real story,” but it’s also a movie and movies don’t need to stick to the truth, and this one certainly doesn’t. Was the guy queer in real life? I don’t know. But that doesn’t matter, what matters is that it’s just kind of an eh movie and maybe being queer would add something to it. One of those “but why make someone queer? because it’s always more interesting to do so,” movies.
Queer Rating: 3 out of 10. It’s just not queer. But Tom Hardy wears cardigans and described his character as a “mother figure,” which adds an interesting dynamic to him.
2. Actually Queer but in a homophobic way
Tom Hardy plays a canonically queer character, yaaay. The whole movie contains a strange sense of the director being too not-queer to actually engage with that and everything around him is almost aggressively straight, noooo.
RocknRolla (2008): Honestly this movie has the funniest coming out scene ever + that familiar undertone of “all these manly men secretly want to fuck each other” is only heightened by one of them actually being gay and in love with his best friend. It’s such a fucking… it’s such a movie. Personally I find Mark Strong, Idris Elba, Thandie Newton, and, of course, Tom Hardy to be really hot in it, so that’s a plus. There’s a scene in which Strong’s character teaches another gangster how to do a proper backhand. It’s really gay of him. Also slow-dancing at a gay club. Butler’s character needs to get himself together, you really don’t think 2008 Tom Hardy is hot? Mate.
Tumblr media
(left to right: functional queer, disaster queer, distinguished queer)
Queer Rating: 6 out of 10, for having an actual gay character who is played by Tom Hardy doing a sexy phonecall voice to another guy, but then there’s that feeling you can’t shake that the whole movie is vaguely uncomfortable about it, like a family member awkwardly patting you on the shoulder after they found out you were queer second-hand, but they’ve still got 50 years of bias to unlearn. Also Thandie Newton is killed, fuck that noise.
Legend (2015): If I had a nickle for the amount of times Tom Hardy’s played a gay gangster, I’d have two nickles. Which isn’t a lot, but weird that it happened twice (looks at Peaky Blinders and thinks it ought to be three times). I’ve watched Legend three times and every time it just… loses me. And because this is a biased list, I’ll only specifically mention that it fails to make Ron’s queerness anything but a way for him to shock others. Gangsters could be gay? Gasp! On the upside Tom Hardy has so much sexual tension with everyone in this movie, including himself (why would you do that? Asks Ron, bemused. Because I can’t kill you, no matter how much I fucking want to, hisses a blood-soaked Reggie right into his ear. It’s hot).
Queer rating: 5 out of 10 because the film is just not very queer for a movie with several queer men in it.
3. Straight as a forced family dinner
It’s straight.
Locke (2013): He’s a married man who had an affair and trying to deal with the fallout of it. This isn’t a spoiler for most of the movie, it’s a pretty neat movie where we look at Tom Hardy having a bit of a mental breakdown and taking lots of phonecalls (my personal hell). Is it queer? Not in the slightest.
Queer Rating: 2 out of 10 for Hardy’s face being in almost every shot.
The Revenant (2015): Yeah, yeah, DeCaprio’s and Hardy’s characters are obsessed with each other, yeah it’s a man’s world where the only women are dead wife, kidnapped sexually assaulted native princess, or background whore, yeah, they fight each other and there’s a ton of grunting, but also… I just fucking don’t like this movie. The thin line where a storyline like this one becomes queer might be crossed for others, but not for me. Fuck these guys and their stupid  bear fights.
Queer rating: 3 out of 10 for it being about dirty men in the middle of nowhere (but you could just watch Brokeback Mountain or The Lighthouse or God’s Own Country or any Mad Max, or, or, or…)
4. Queer? Queer. Queer? … Queer…
The plots, aesthetics and/or characters played by Tom Hardy lend themselves to a queer reading, even if there is no overt intention towards queerness. Often this is because of a deliberate lack of heterosexual and/or cisgender writing, which in this day and age is still pretty uncommon not to include within a plot.
Inception (2010): Okay, I don’t even need to write about the added “darling,” or the “go to sleep Mr Eames.” I don’t need to go on about the absolutely bonkers amount of fanfiction written for Eames and Arthur, based on a few minutes of film and a boatload of chemistry. It’s queer.
Queer Rating: 7 out of 10, because the actual plot of the film isn’t very queer, but between the Arthur/Eames dynamic and Elliot Page, Nolan was really given a gift he didn’t deserve.
Warrior (2011): Okay, so first off, this might be my favourite Tom Hardy film, at least some part of my brain is fixated on it at almost all times and I’m considering watching it for the third time in two weeks. I don’t only consider it queer based on Mr. Hardy’s character, although he has no romantic or sexual interest and could be read as aroace, but because of the themes, especially those surrounding said character, who is coded as a caregiver to women and through close emotional connections to men. It’s got possibly unintentional deconstructions of masculinity and two men (brothers) who need to forgive each other and can only do so through the catharsis of violence. It speaks to me as a transmasc with several cis brothers, struggling with my own masculinity. It’s not at all written for me, but I find myself all over it. I could talk about this movie forever.
Queer Rating: 8 out of 10. I’m not allowed to say any more or I’ll never stop writing about it. I love you Tommy…
The Drop (2014): Bob’s lack of sexual and/or romantic interest in Naomi is so strange to her that she doesn’t know what he would want from her otherwise. Bob really just wants to raise a dog with her (and also forgiveness for past sins). Bob is such a rare ace and possibly aro coded character, it really throws me every time I watch this film how obvious it is. Bonus points for also being autistic-coded and not in the stereotypical ways.
Tumblr media
(Tom Hardy’s most challenging role: pretending he doesn’t know dogs)
Queer Rating: 9 out of 10 because it’s so fucking rare to see ace and aro coded characters that aren’t, you know…. serial killers. Also Tom Hardy adopts a puppy and has a very cute, kinda lispy voice. How often does Tom Hardy play softer men like this?
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015): Very deliberately no sexual or romantic writing included in Max’s and Furiosa’s relationship. Sure, there’s not a lot of time for that in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, but it was also done with a purpose! “It was always going to be two warriors on par, starting off with very little respect for each other and ending up with a massive respect for each other.” - Charlize Theron. “So of course they meet, of course there’s a relationship, an unspoken understanding. A recognition.” - Tom Hardy.
Queer Rating: 9 out of 10. It’s not just the characters, but the world and it’s apocalyptic BDSM leather scene, the questions it asks about sustainability and about people as tools, and the found family. It’s about overcoming violence through multiple kinds of love. And it’s about watching a guy playing flame-thrower guitar. What could be queerer?
Venom (2018): Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same… No, but Eddie is queer. The only question is whether the sequel will acknowledge that aspect or not, but even if not. Even if it manages to straightly bypass the reality of a symbiotic relationship with a genderless? genderfluid? being from another world that is linked to you down to your very cells and understands you more intimately than any other person possibly could… even if all that: Eddie is queer. Venom and Eddie are in a relationship. Any relationship Eddie ever enters into will automatically become a thrupple. He makes out with Venom in the movie! Eddie is queer.
Tumblr media
(aw yeah that tongue is going down his throat)
Queer Rating: 9.5 out of 10, because it’s still coded by the creators in the language of bromance (hey, bro, is it gay if we’re physically and emotionally closer than any other people on earth?), but the movie is so, so camp and Mr Hardy’s acting choices are beautiful – the screaming? The lispy soft voice and lack of taking up space? The lobster tank? The only people who don’t know how queer this is are the people making it apparently. Fingers crossed for that sequel!
Hon. mentions:
Star Trek: Nemesis (2002): Star Trek – even at it’s worst (especially at its worst?) – is camp af + Hardy is a straight-up baby in this film.
Bronson (2008): It’s about a real person who’s still alive, so I won’t comment on the actual man. However the film seems to code the character Bronson along an ace line and also has genderqueering Vaudeville. Someone let Tom Hardy do more of whatever was going on in those stage-bits.
Tumblr media
(this right here: this the good shit)
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011): Another ensemble piece not massively about Hardy’s character, but it’s a movie that centers around queerness in a strange, depressing way. Tom Hardy’s character isn’t queer. Colin Firth and Mark Strong are though. The book makes me cry.
Peaky Blinders (2013-): Because it’s a TV series I left it out. There’s a lot of straight nonsense going on there, but Alfie Solomens is gay. There’s nothing in the series that disputes that and plenty that lends itself to the reading.
Dunkirk (2017): Tom Hardy plays an RAF pilot in a deep emotional connection with the other main RAF pilot. That’s immediately gay. However he’s not in the movie much because of the way it’s constructed, so I left it off.
Queer Ratings (least to most)
No queer to be found here traveller:
This Means War: 2 out of 10 - illegal movie, Tom Hardy swore he wouldn’t do another rom-com after
Locke: 2 out of 10 - straight Welshman and his straight problems. He pretty though
Lawless: 3 out of 10 - cardigan-Hardy being a mother-hen, but very straight for all that
The Dark Knight Rises: 3 out of 10 - a superhero movie that doesn’t deserve Mr Hardy’s camp talents (unlike Venom)
The Revenant: 3 out of 10 - doesn’t give me what I want out of a movie full of dirty, bearded men
Queer but we deserve more:
Legend: 5 out of 10 - timid homosexuality, considering the source material.
RocknRolla: 6 out of 10 - hey bro, is it gay if we kill the only female lead in our massive ensemble cast
The queerest of Hardy’s:
Inception: 7 out of 10 - Elliot Page and JGL kissing was an all-around terrible choice that made no sense, we know the truth, Nolan
Warrior: 8 out of 10 - I’m still crying, Edgerton’s crying, Hardy’s crying, we’re all crying, and I think that’s really emotionally healthy and queer of us
Mad Max: Fury Road: 9 out of 10 - non-romantic love in the time of BDSM post-apocalyptic wastelands is something that can actually be so personal
The Drop: 9 out of 10 - “Fucking punk. Go out to dinner dressed like you're still in you living room! You wear those big hippity-hoppity clown shoes! You speak to women terribly! You treat them despicably! You hurt harmless dogs that can't defend themselves! I'm tired of you man. I'm tired of you. You embarrass me!”
Venom: 9.5 out of 10 - Sometimes a relationship is an anxious reporter, the sentient goo inhabiting his body, his kinda-ex-girlfriend and her new doctor boyfriend, and I think that’s beautiful

Pride Month Multi-fandom Rec list
Happy Pride month yall! As someone who is asexual I know we don’t get a lot of representation in the public media BUT we do sometimes get some really good representation in fan fiction. So, for Pride month I wanted to share some of my favorite fan fics from multiple fandoms that feature some really good representation of multiple different queer identities. As I am ace, there is probably more ace recs than anything else, but I have tried to include some other identities as well. So without further ado, I present to you a multi-fandom rec list that nobody asked for:
The closing walls and the ticking clocks by @i-will-not-be-caged . 5k words (mcu: samstevebucky, ace Sam Wilson)
Ok so Sam Wilson is one of my favorite mcu characters and I am soo happy that he finally got his own show with Bucky but this is a fic from before tfatws featuring an ace Sam Wilson and his two supportive boyfriends: Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes. This fic is beautifully written and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fic full of all those ace feels.
Dear Granger, Love Pansy by onlykatelyn. 6k words (hp: Pansimone, wlw)
I don’t tend to read a lot of wlw fics but this one is soo cute and angsty. It features a pining!Pansy who writes a series of heartfelt letters to Hermione and has Drarry and Blaron in the background. Its overall a super enjoyable read and even won a Drarry award in 2018!
when i’m set alight by @killproof. 6k words (atla: Zukka, trans-gay Zuko & bi Sokka)
This a cute little Zukka fic from Sokka’s perspective that basically follows the plot of the the second half of book 3 and shows Sokka falling for Zuko. It’s fluffy and adorable and features a trans Zuko but like it’s done really subtly and really well I think (also Aang and Toph are trans as well I believe).
(hope that i’m able to be) all that you need by @zukosadragon-ace. 10k words (atla: Zukka, ace Zuko & aro Toph)
Ok so I am in love with the idea of Zuko from Avatar the Last Airbender being ace and this is one of my all time favorite ace Zuko fics. It is sooo soft and features an aromatic Toph Beifong and Sokka being the supportive partner that every ace hopes to find, and anyway its heartbreaking and adorable.
Such Things Are Possible by convenientalias. 13k words (Sense8: Rajalagang, Polyamory)
Ok so If you haven’t seen Sense8 stop what your doing right now and go watch it because it is an amazing scifi show with found family and more representation then you could dream of and this fic basically re-tales the last episode from the perspective of one of the characters in a CANON polyamorous relationship.
The Case of the Missing Cockatiel by gryvon. 14k words (Psych: Shassie, bi/pan/omni characters)
So I don’t think either Shawn or Lassiter’s sexualities are explicitly stated in this fic but Shawn is basically a chaotic bi in canon and defiantly not monosexual and Im pretty sure Lassie is bi/pan/omni in this fic as well. Either way its a great case fic featuring our favorite sassy psychic detectives who somehow managed to get real psychic powers this time.
I Want You to Love Me (i want you to leave me) by @miniongrin. 20k works (mcu: Pepperony, ace Tony Stark)
I came across the Asexual Tony Stark tag at some point this year and I got a little obsessed because he is such and interesting character to read as ace. this is probably one of my favorite ace Tony fics featuring Tony trying to figure out and come to terms with his identity and a Avenger field trip to a pride parade. TW: Tony as an ace character participates in sex he’s not totally into because of social expectations and pressures that he feels under.
you belong (to me) by hermionesmydawg . 30k words (mcu: Stucky, gay Buck & bisexual Steve)
So first off this is a NSFW BDSM fic so if that’s not your thing be warned. If you are cool with that though this is one of my favorite Stucky fics featuring a BAMF Natasha Romanov, a supportive Sam Wilson, and as the author puts it an “Aggressively bisexual Steve Rogers.” On top of the BDSM, it is mostly a cute friends-to-lovers fic about Steve, Bucky and their friends trying to live their lives after leaving the Avengers.
Little Compton Street (One Rainy Night in Soho) by @writcraft & @celilasart. 66k words (Harry Potter: Drarry, mlm)
Both Harry and Draco identify as gay in this fic but I love it and wanted to include it in the list because the fic does a fantastic job of exploring queer history in the UK and puts a magic spin on it. It is also just a well written fic featuring loads of other lgbtq+ characters & fluffy romance with a side of smut.

Another for the aro SW club here! ;D I honestly never thought about how my aromanticness (?) might interact with my love of SW and all things Jedi. But I agree that it may be related to SW focusing on the fact that ALL love is good, not just romantic love. It's the found family trope x 1000. Also, I'm with you on being an aro/ace person who loves reading and writing shipfic (even explicit stuff). I think it's bc I enjoy getting to live it vicariously through fic in a way I never would IRL. ^_^
Hi!  *fistbump of welcome to the aro SW club!*  I think, for a bunch of us aro people (and ace people as well, I would presume?), there’s at least an attraction to characters who not only aren’t defined by romance, but it’s by and large just not an issue for them. Sure, you have Anakin who is very clearly not aro, and you have Obi-Wan with Satine, but otherwise the majority of Jedi (at least in canon) just don’t seem to really think much about it, they’re not pining after it, they’re not missing something.  And I love that maybe this is at least partly because they have this incredible connection in their head, where they’re already spiritually and emotionally and psychically connected to so many people, you can send waves of comfort right into someone’s head, there’s not as much of a drive to find more physical or verbal expressions then. But also that it’s nice to have one culture where romance just isn’t part of it and that the people within that culture are free to choose it if they want, a few of them did and they were treated warmly for it, but that the Jedi chose other paths, they wanted other pants, they wanted other dynamics and meaning in their lives, they just don’t seem interested in romantic relationships. Look at Yoda, Mace, Shaak, Depa, Plo, Jocasta, Luke, Aayla, Kit, Yaddle, Even, Adi, Luminara, etc.  All characters who just don’t seem interested in romance all that much, that the Jedi being married to their Order doesn’t seem to be a hardship because there can be people--LOTS of people, even, not just one or two--who genuinely aren’t that into romance and have other types of love that are more important to them.  Even Ahsoka, one could argue, sometimes has squiggly feelings for characters like Lux or Kaeden, but that doesn’t mean they necessarily have to be romantic, sometimes feelings are confusing and messy.  Maybe Ahsoka is biromantic, maybe she’s a lesbian, but also maybe she’s aromantic and there’s a lot of value in that. I think you’re absolutely right that it helps that Star Wars has always been about how ALL kinds of love are good, that SW bucks a lot of the mainstream trends of everyone needing to be paired up in romantic relationships or that blood family is more important than adoptive families or that chosen families aren’t just as good as traditional nuclear families. A lot of us aro people are used to thinking outside of the traditional ways love is shown and so it’s not that we want to devalue romance, because we love romance and shipping characters, those can be great stories!  But having this one culture represent us, showing that we’re worthwhile and just as valid as other types of love, that can be meaningful.  And no one has to interpret it this way, certainly not even all aro people, I’m sure there are plenty who disagree, too!  I’m only speaking for my own experience and the people I’ve directly talked to about this, but there’s absolutely room for our aro/ace qualities and that a culture viewed through that lens has value. And I think this is why I get kind of tetchy about people who deride the Jedi for the no marriage thing.  In addition to that I think there’s a lot of misinterpretation about what the Jedi actually say, what they actually allow, what attachment actually means, that it’s not the same thing as love, etc., there’s all too often this sense of, “They’re denying a fundamental part of what it means to be human by not having romantic relationships!” from some critics and I’m over here like, YOU CAN TAKE THAT ATTITUDE AND SHOVE IT ALL THE WAY UP YOUR ASS, RIGHT NEXT TO YOUR HEAD UP THERE.  I know most people don’t mean it that way, I’m certainly not trying to paint all Jedi critical people with that brush, because that would be inaccurate, but I’ve definitely seen that attitude before and, as someone who is not missing some fundamental part of what it means to be human, who is not somehow broken for being aromantic, it’s definitely rankled.

zukka hp au part 4
zukka hp au:  Zuko’s a Gryffindor in a family of Slytherins, and Sokka’s a Ravenclaw.
This is really long by now, but these are the original posts:
part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4 part 5 part 6 part 7 part 8 part 9 part 10 part 11 part 12 part 13
If you would like to join the tag list
This is kind of random bits and pieces I wanted to add:
Suki might be my favorite in this au
She’s just so self-assured and knows who she is
She’s really really popular and she’s always got time for the younger students
Like no problem is too small
You lost your cat? Get Suki. You need help on a potions essay? Get Suki. You’re really stressed and scared and worried you don’t belong? Suki’s always happy to listen and give advice if you want it
She’s a prefect and on track to be Head Girl. She’s extremely unbiased and all the Houses are happy to go to her. Even Slytherin, which surprised people at first, but she’s just a solid friend to everyone and doesn’t play favorites
She’s pretty dedicated to her work as well
Not much is known about the Kyoshi warriors at Hogwarts
They’re a tight knit group, but everyone has intense respect for them
They’re badass and they get shit done
Suki’s been playing Keeper since second year
She’s just that good
Other people thought that she’d want to be seeker, and she’s decent at it
She’s a wicked chaser
But she’s really reliable, so she tends to play Keeper because Gryffindor doesn’t really have anyone better at the moment
I’m kind of playing around with the idea that the Kyoshi also are werewolves? But I’m changing how that works. You’re either born a werewolf or you can learn how to become one with some variation on becoming an Animagus. But no one outside the Kyoshi know if that’s more than a rumor or not. Still intense respect. Werewolves are accepted by society in this au. Individual people and families might have their own issues, but none of that stigma. Still need to work out the kinks of this
For Toph- you can’t beat her in a duel
If you actually get past her regular magic, her earth magic just sticks you in a corner so you have to think about what you’ve done
She’s the youngest, but she knows she’s the best
She doesn’t talk about herself much, but you can tell her parents make her sad
She’s pretty sure she’s aro ace
If she can kick your ass, she’s satisfied
So that’s Suki in Gryffindor, Aang in Hufflepuff, Sokka in Ravenclaw, Toph in Slytherin, Zuko in Gryffindor
I’m not sure where to put Katara, I kind of really want Hufflepuff, because she’s reliable and loyal, but sometimes, she’s very Gryffindor
Also, Bumi is the headmaster
He’s absolutely nuts
But he drives Ozai and Sozin crazy
Because he knows EVERYTHING
I’m now wondering if Iroh should be potions master
Zuko’s favorite place is the lake
He likes to hang out with the turtleducks
And watch the giant squid
Once he snuck down to the Slytherin common room to see the squid just swim around from the windows showing the lake
I am going to redeem Azula
She might lose her mind a little first
But Mai and Ty Lee have her back
I’d really like to see Azula be friends with Suki
I also need to come up with backstory as to why Sozin and the water tribe have beef
Like everyone hates Sozin
But what is the specific crap
I think the water tribe hates them, because, shhh, it’s still a secret to the gaang, but he sent the man who ambushed and killed Sokka and Katara’s mom
But I haven’t worked out what exactly made him do it
I have to figure out what exactly the prophecy says
Maybe they thought it could also apply to the water tribe
Also, I swear zukka will happen
It’s just this is very enemies to friends to lovers
Like this will be the slowest burn
They might pine for a couple years
part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4 part 5 part 6 part 7 part 8 part 9 part 10 part 11 part 12 part 13

Ace Riz not understanding that relationships can happen without sex. Longing and pining for a partner but thinking it could never happen, until one day it clicks.
Ace Fabian only wanting to get his kisses in with someone he loves. Realizing he likes relationships and wants to be in love, but not wanting or needing sex to be happy.
Ace-Aro Adaine being happy alone with her friends. Not needing a partner, being perfectly content, her friendships (her real family with The Bad Kids) being perfectly imperfect and all she needs.
Ace-Aro Fantasy High positivity, guys!!!
