Logan when he catches himself expressing emotions:

ALRIGHT I HAVE SOME TIME SO LET'S TALK ABOUT THIS (also shut up i only noticed the typo when i was taking this screenshot-)
Okay, so I noticed a common theme in all the videos that orange (or Orange) is in: right after you see the color orange, you can see some form of shame or embarrassment in one of the characters.
Let me explain.
Let's take the flash card scene from Learning New Things About Ourselves.
As many people know, right when you see Logan crumple up the flashcard in his hand (like the upwards POV shot), you can see orange light coming from up the stairs. Many people (as I've pointed out, like, three times now) believe this to be the first time we see Orange show up.
Now, logically, many people take seeing the color orange show up when someone is visibly angry to mean that Orange is the representation of anger, but I think I disagree.
Look at Logan's face immediately after the flashcard hits Roman.
Tumblr media
That's not anger. That face says a lot of things, but it doesn't say rage. It says, most notably, "I wish I hadn't done that".
AND! I can't believe I forgot about this but Logan literally says "I do regret throwing that paper at puppet Roman" in the Five Years Later episode! He says the words "I regret throwing the paper"!!
I'm going to get back to the Five Years Later video later but keep that in your mind.
I wouldn't put much thought into this if it was just a one off thing, but it's not - Logan's not even the only who exhibits this sort of behavior!
In Putting Others First, what is the first live action scene we see (that isn't the recap of course)?
Tumblr media
That's orange. That is Thomas bathed in orange.
And again, Thomas may be angry here but this anger is mainly directed at himself for letting himself go to the wedding and not the callback!
Patton I feel is in the same boat, where he regrets or else is embarrassed by not being able to answer "Logan's" questions (for context here, Lilypadton's eyes are orange).
And then there's Working Through Intrusive Thoughts.
Logan was mad of course, but I think, once again, this is more so the regret of not putting his foot down earlier and making Thomas listen to him (hence the lashing out not thirty seconds before Thomas decides to abandon their plan).
Alright, on to a more solid bit of proof: the Five Years Later video.
There is a whole segment in this episode about C!Thomas and the other characters talking about their regrets.
Aside from the aforementioned Logan's regret of throwing the paper at Roman, there were some other notable reactions to this question:
Roman's regret of making Thomas go to the wedding in the first place (cementing my earlier point that that wasn't fully anger on Thomas's face but rather regret about the situation entirely) is a major one, but then there's Virgil's entire CVS receipt of a list (ranging from "boiled carrots" to "achieving consciousness" - mans is full of regret), to Roman's mirrored regret from Logan's about wishing he'd thrown something at Logan before Logan got the chance to throw the flashcard at him, to Janus's regret of "lack of attention to detail" (which, while unrelated to this discussion, I thought was an interesting point to make before the release of the season finale - hopefully we get to see more disguised Janus content in the finale? 👀👀 )
It's also interesting to note that in the Five Years Later video Remus is the only one who doesn't have any regrets about, you know, anything. That makes sense obviously in the context of who Remus is as a character but it also tracks that the one of the only characters who doesn't seem threatened or scared of the Orange Side has no regrets.
This is all I have for now, but if anyone would like to add on to this please do.

Theorizing Pt 1: repression
UP AHEAD: so much rambling about Orange. written very late at night and not the most coherent, sorry. (also, all uses of Thomas are referring to c!Thomas)
okay everyone talks about the dark sides being their opposites, opposing colors, colors on opposite ends of the wheel, but wanna know another term for it? complementary colors. I think the idea of "totally opposing, entirely contrasting, nothing alike" is not really accurate to the lore that we have been given? It's clear that it's important that all sides are accepted, and that there is no "solely good" or "solely bad" trait. Everything has complexities and different aspects to it, and the sides are no different.
I've never been particularly fond of the idea of wrath/anger/cruelty being orange because it seems like a scapegoat? I am more in favor of it representing regret (as most appearances of it are present in scenes or conversations with regret present) [forgot where i saw the theory first :sob:] and passion (impulsive acts based in emotions, a contrast to Logan's character while simultaneously rounding him out and forcing him and thomas to accept the parts that aren't all logical) [theory from @/dillydallydove] as these have more dimension and seem to fill out the gaps in the sides a bit more, especially considering the general theme going with remus, janus, and virgil. These are aspects that Thomas represses, and he knows them by names that aren't really accurate to their full purposes. He knows Janus as deceit, while he is more accurately described as self-preservation. He knows Remus as intrusive thoughts, when he is more accurately described as his repressed creativity. He knows Virgil as Anxiety (which is fairly accurate, though it still minimizes his functions) though he might be more accurately described as caution? fear? an aspect of self preservation? Regardless, perhaps orange could be known as wrath or anger because that's what he manifests as, but that doesn't mean that this is accurate to who he is as an aspect of Thomas. Remus is intrusive thoughts because that is the only way he can get recognized, the only way he breaks through the suppression. Janus is known as deceit because he has to manipulate the other sides to get them to prioritize Thomas's self-interest (as well as his personal responsibility to protect Thomas from what he can't handle at the moment; deceiving himself, sure, but at it's core, preserving his presently fragile mental state).
What emotion, what passion, does thomas repress the most? he's clearly open to expressing love and joy and, more recently, stress and anxiety, even some hints of sadness showing. but what has he been repressing the most? his anger! his frustration! his (and his sides') sense of inadequacy!! Orange is being seen in these contexts because that is what he isn't allowing himself (and the sides) to express as themselves.
Sanders Sides' whole thing is accepting the different parts of yourself, with underlying themes of c!thomas's upbringing causing him to repress, deny, or otherwise have an unhealthy relationship with "bad" aspects of himself (which, boy do i have some ideas for possible explorations of OCD in this, especially with the prevalence of intrusive thoughts- and the ways Thomas and the other sides change their language around Remus to prevent him from "getting ideas"-). Orange could be treated as a character foil to Logan, or Orange could be like Janus, but instead of protecting c!T from things he can't handle, Orange is the result of that suppression. Like how remus formed from thomas (patton) forbidding Roman from having "bad" ideas, orange could be formed from thomas (logan) pushing down "bad" feelings, feelings of passion that don't directly help other people.
Of course, this brings me to how Janus (a "gatekeeper" of sorts for Thomas) would interact with orange. this is reaching more into prediction territory. I suspect that Janus wants orange to emerge, as prolonged repression is harming Thomas (which i'm pretty sure he alluded to at least once, though i'm blanking on when). (also, an aside, is it not concerning that during the christmas special, Janus, c!T's self-preservation, was increasingly inebriated?? ooh and the occasional gags about Logan drinking wine too-) Notice how Janus has been watching Logan? this plus the general willingness to exclude Logan (further pushing his frustration and feelings of inadequacy) makes me suspect that he (as per usual) knows more than the rest.
I... don't really have a conclusion. I think Orange isn't an embodiment of aggression, moreso a result of repression? I guess? And I'm concerned about... yeah everyone involved, but especially Logan and Janus.

My orange side dreams (I've had 4)
A description of my multiple orange side dreams and some of my commentary on them.
The first one
I had this dream back in 2022. Logan was sitting in a closet looking into a mirror. But his reflection wasnt himself, it was Thomas with a scraggly beard, dirty grey hoodie, messy hair, etc. Logan was talking to him about backing off, the reflection was mocking him, and all of a sudden the reflection reaches out and pulls Logan into the mirror. He starts laughing evilly and takes on Logan's appearance, walking out of the mirror and out of the closet. The dream changes to me scrolling through the comment sections of youtube trying to look for theories about this video, when i find in the description for the video theres a single name: Julius.
What I find super funny about this dream was that, the original appearance is super similar to an old dark side OC I had before Remus was introduced. He represented procrastination.
The name Julius is also funny because I'm fairly certain my subconscious took it from the drink "orange Julius"
Also lmao me predicting Thomas having facial hair is wild, God damn 2022 Dazey.
The second one
Previously posted elsewhere on my tumblr, I'm basically copying and pasting the post here.
I had a dream that Thomas posted a sander sides video featuring Janus, Remus, and the orange side. The orange side had no defined appearance, he was constantly switching between looking like Patton, Virgil, and Logan.
Janus and Remus didn't like him. The orange side did things in the video that actually made REMUS feel disgusted. I wont describe how (info in the replies of the original post), but he was able to completely shut down other sides. He picked them off one by one and made them faint, disappear, etc...
You could tell by the end of the episode Janus was majorly unhappy but before he could do anything, the orange side rendered him unconscious and Thomas was left alone with him. The episode ended with the orange side laughing as the screen faded to black. The endcard featured Thomas announcing the next episode would come out in 2 years :) (ouch, the accuracy still hurts a bit)
The third one (short and sweet)
Orange side had this ability to influence other sides, like a temporary possession. He wore glasses, which let me tell you, I don't see many orange sides interpretations with glasses so this was just wild.
Despite the fact I know he wore glasses, he also didn't have a set appearance, like he was invisible. Similar to dream 2, he was constantly changing how he looked through this possession concept I brought up.
He was influencing Logan to lash out a lot. Weird huh *gestures vaguely to my complicated feelings to the wrath theory*
Different dream again, the final one
The orange side adopted the appearance and actions of my personal theory for what the orange side should be. Those who have read my orange side theories will already know what im about to say: He represented ignorance, his dark side animal was a bird (some sort of falcon or hawk), his name was Icarus. The entire dream (read: episode) was more or less about how the others fucking suck when it comes to addressing their issues. It felt like they were going in circles. Why did they have to constantly fight?
I've seen the arguments against my particular ignorance theory, saying it's basically just lying to yourself and we can't have two Deceits. But ignorance is more than just 'turning a blind eye.' It's purposefully ignoring new nformation to stay in a comfortable and familiar idea space. Most of the dream works from the angle of Logan not being listened to. The other sides ignorance is what makes Logan angry.
This means nothing but I feel like sharing. In this dream I got to meet Thomas and I asked him "so, Is the orange sides name icarus?" And he looked personally so offended that I guessed it.

i wanna see what tumblr thinks :0
fyi when i say “virus type” i mean that the “orange side” is not a physical manifestation but something that affects the other sides and causes them to have those outbursts of emotion (aka logans ‘stop ignoring me’, the paper ball thing, etc.)

Quick Orange side theory
I created my own sides before Deceit was a thing (I think?). And I ended up making a new role in the process.
That became Drive/Motivation
And what if Orange is something like that? Motivation? Values? Thomas’ personal sense of Justice? Something along those lines
Rather than just, anger, or something, since anger seems more like a reactionary function that half the sides already carry
And while Roman values justice, he isn’t exactly justice himself
Logan is justifiably angry a lot of the time, considering how ignored he is, among other issues
Everyone works and changes for each other, but they just, keep, ignoring, him. They say they will be better about it, and then they don’t.
Logan is constantly working to understand them, and learning to work with them rather than just plowing through and demanding without compromising. And he always apologizes when he realizes he’s wrong about things.
He is learning their language, but they won’t take the time to learn his. And he’s trying so hard not to act out. Not to yell. Not to be a hassle. Not to add more useless noise. Not to waste time.
So much so that it explodes
Logan isn’t just angry, he wants equality. He wants to be treated better. He knows he deserves better, but can’t figure out a way to get it.
And that’s why Orange is coming in.

The Sides’ Names and Werewolves
I have connected two dots
Tumblr media
Okay, this is kinda silly but the more I try to stop thinking about it, the more my brain latches on with sharp, pointy teeth.
Thanks Remus.
Tumblr media
You’re welcome.
I know what 🧡 Orange’s name will be.
Somewhere, buried deep in c!thomas’ psyche (or perhaps writer Thomas’? Or maybe even Joan’s) is a connection between c!thomas’ more viscerally reactive Sides and werewolves or other hyper-aggressive beings in the zeitgeist.

And so may I present to you Orange, (righteous) Anger in all his glory.

See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil, do no evil.
See: Remus, Thomas’s morally corrupt side of Creativity and intrusive thoughts: Forces Thomas to see/realize the truth in many ways. //He can make Thomas see and think things he doesn’t want to see or think//
Hear: Janus, Thomas’s sense of self-preservation, selfishness, and deceit: Forces Thomas to hear things he doesn’t want to hear. //Can pretend to be others to say what needs to be heard//
Speak: Virgil, Thomas’s caution, vigilance, and fight-or-flight/ anxiety: He forces Thomas to be safe by speaking his anxieties. //Speaks differently when overly anxious.//
Do: Orange, the role is unknown: Forces Thomas to do things to better himself in ways that are currently unknown. //Can influence what other sides do//
These sides are not inherently evil, and in my opinion they are the most important sides out of all of them because they force Thomas to better himself by dealing with issues he wouldn’t have otherwise dealt with because they are unpleasant. All of the dark sides, despite their differences, are working together.
Theories where Logan is the Orange side or where parts of Thomas’ identity (mostly logic) are currently splitting like Creativity did or where there are new sub-parts of specific roles are really interesting and fun, but I myself doubt it due to Logan already having his own role and Logan explaining that these things only happen during Thomas’ early development, most likely when his singular identity was still forming.
“At a young age, you filed away products of your imagination as either welcome or forbidden. This led to the development of two separate sides of your creativity.” - Logan in Dealing With Intrusive Thoughts
I don’t think the orange side could be a sub-part of Logic or any other role because these changes cannot happen now that Thomas is an adult and his identity is whole. He has not gone through intense experiences, like trauma, that would change that fact. If parts of what made his singular personality were currently splitting or coming up with sub-parts of themselves, Thomas would most likely have multiple identities that delve into DID territory, which the team had explicitly explained that Thomas did not have because he is one singular identity. It’d just be too complicated and wouldn’t make sense for the current plot. I’m not trying to bash anyones theories!!! This is just why I personally think the Orange side is a completely separate dark side that has always been there from the beginning and is only influencing Logan through unknown means. + Four Wise Monkeys theory

I was thinking about this and wondering if it was actually foreshadowing. Like if Logan’s eyes burned orange after a moment of wrath (a sin committed in your head) would the other sides ‘commit sins’ as well eventually? Is THAT how Orange is going to appear? Making the others sin?
Tumblr media
The 7 deadly sins are about keeping yourself in check. They are a measure to insure to yourself you’re being a ‘good person’. If the sides don’t follow these rules, will c!Thomas think he’s not?

Orange Side
Alright guys, listen. Hot take. I don't know how many of you are going to like this, but it needs to be said.
The Seventh Side/Orange Side Will Not Be Rage.
Now listen for just a minute while I explain. You'll remember during Moving On, Thomas and Patton both establish that Patton is at the core of a lot of Thomas' feelings. This includes not only joy and excitement, but grief and sadness. Rage isn't a part of him, you don't have an angry part of you when you list the parts of you that make you you. And before anyone says Virgil, Thomas' anxiety being a side is a result of him having an anxiety disorder. It's not just an emotion like it is for most people, it affects his day to day. On top of that, Thomas isn't an angry person... at all. He's giddy and cheerful all the time, and if he's not it's sad or anxious. It would take a LOT to piss him off to the point it could be called Rage. He might get frustrated at something, but Rage and Fury have far more fire to them than the sparks of "Why won't this damn coffee machine work?" It wouldn't make any goddamned sense if the seventh side he keeps teasing (that we've predicted) ends up being an emotion, especially because it's really hard to make a full episode dealing with just anger that Thomas doesn't even really have.
Now for the Hot Take I mentioned before. All I've said is it won't be Rage, but most people won't accept that without another alternative to fall back on (though in my opinion we should just let Thomas do his damn thing with it, we can trust him to do that much) so I present to you, these tweets;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now THAT is episode-worthy. THAT is a part of Thomas worth looking into. An ADHD side would get everyone involved one way or another, it'd clear up things within Thomas and the other sides that they don't really get about themselves. As someone with ADHD myself, it would make a LOT of sense to have this be an episode and would also touch on a lot of things most people REALLY need to be told about ADHD.
I can already hear the arguments about what happened in the most recent Asides video with Logan but hear me out. One of the parts of ADHD that I personally despise is RSD, Rejection Sensitivity Disorder. Not all ADHD'ers have it, but a good amount do. Basically we have a worse fear of rejection and failure than most people do. We need everyone to like us so much it's exhausting. If you're not paying attention to us, we're going to immediately think you hate us or don't like us, and if it's for too long we think we've been forgotten completely. Now, since ADHD is a MASSIVE impact on your daily life and thinking, it would make sense that Logan took a good toll from this. The RSD would have hit him like a TRUCK while Remus was ignoring him and making fun of him, and he'd be pissed off. It would also give a good reason for Logan to act the way he did in SVS Redux, appearing in a "less invasive" form so the Pure of Heart and Dumb of Ass wouldn't hate on him the way he thinks they are. Also, this leaves a good reason for the fans to grasp at for Logan angst content, and you can rarely argue with angst.
As for the color, I present to you the ADHD flag. Doesn't get a whole lot more orange than that folks.
Tumblr media
I could go on, clearly, but just think about how much sense this makes you guys. And if you disagree, don't come crawling back to me if I end up being right. But anyways, there's my two cents, take it easy y'all

ORANGE SIDE THEORY
ok ok I think I figured it out. It’s a little long but bear with me i think this is it.
There are two pats to my theory
1. This clip
I really think that look from Logan meant something. And a lot of ppl are theorizing it was in response to patton saying passion can make you act “silly.” And this is referencing when Logan snapped in DWIT.
But Roman represent Passion, right? So that couldn’t be the orange side. I thought that until researching it a little more.
2. This article I found on passion
According to Dr. Benjamin Hardy,
“The two types of passion are obsessive and harmonious.
Obsessive passion is about being completely fueled and driven by emotion. It’s highly impulsive. This is the type of passion where you’re not clear on your “WHY.” Instead, you’re seeking dopamine, self-esteem, social acceptance, or something else.
With obsessive passion, the emotions control you — which is another way of saying your body has taken over your mind and is seeking it’s dopamine addiction.
Obsessive passion is where the subconscious takes over the conscious mind, leading you to feeling powerless and a victim. Suppressed emotions and unresolved internal conflict are the driver”
I totally think the orange side could represent this “obsessive passion” while roman represents the “harmonious passion.” I really think the description above describes what Logan went through. His suppressed emotions led to him suddenly being controlled by them in a fit of passionate anger.
I rest my case
