last Saturday, I went to a show to see my favorite band The Music Tapes perform for an Orbiting Human Circus show and it was fantastic! Julian was an absolute pleasure to be around and it was a very fun performance. I couldn't get the silly little dance he did with the polar bear when they were performing The Lost Angel out of my head, so I threw a quick little drawing together for it :-)
On Monday, January 1, from 1:30–11:30PM EST, Julian will be doing a holiday caroling phone call marathon!
🎄
If you would like to invite him to call you as part of the day, email [email protected] and give us your (1) ticket; (2) name; and (3) phone number; and (4) 2 or 3 1-hour time windows between 1:30PM–11:30PM EST (with time zone or location) when you will be available.
🎄
✨TICKETS ✨
To get your ticket: Sit down in a comfortable place and hold out your hand. Imagine a cutout paper reindeer standing on your palm, then think of a favorite memory of something you love or have loved. As you do, you’ll see that the reindeer will begin to float. Imagine it floating all around the space you’re in. It will land on something, pause, and then fly back to your hand. When it reaches you, close your hand around it and keep it closed for a count of 10. It will become a part of you. Then email us and tell us the object it landed on. (You can describe it in words, pictures, audio, or whatever you like. It could be the most mundane object in the world and likely will be!) This is your ticket.
🎄
Julian very much hopes to call everyone who invites him—so please only do so if it will really make you happy, and if you’ll be available, so it will be possible to include everyone! (We’ll email everyone back to confirm.)
Oh man, I love Julian Koster! that guy truly found his niche, and his niche is playing vintage Christmas songs, on an instrument called the musical saw, in a carnival tent, while wearing only primary colors, and while telling beautiful stories about clouds or polar bears or something. I just think he slays so hard!

Here we find Julian the janitor and Star the accordionist Pierrot; it seems the two of them have found something bright and shining...!
[Image description: A warmly coloured digital painting of Julian from the Orbiting Human Circus and Star, an original character, both shown from the waist up. The two of them are looking in awe and wonder at Julian's cupped hands, from which a warm light is emanating. Star has their hands raised up at chest height, perhaps shielding the object from prying eyes. Julian wears a blue stocking cap, blue jacket, and yellow button up shirt with star accents on the peter pan collar and cuffs. Star has star shaped blush on their cheeks, black star stud earrings, and wears a black and white Pierrot outfit - a dunce-like rimmed cap with a star on top, a ruffled black clown collar, and a long draping white shirt with two large black pompoms down the front. End ID.]
literally if i had to recommend any excerpt from orbiting human circus it'd probably have to be the story of Ladislas Koskovsky from the second and third episodes of season 1. the story julian tells about the shoeboxes in s2 is almost tied there but god...... Ladislas' story is soo indicative of what makes the show so so good
Interview with Julian Koster, about his art and music, origins, Orbiting Human Circus, "Quartet Plus Two" record, Japan, upcoming tours… (there is so much covered in it, give it a read)
