I think it's interesting how the things a stranger holds can create so much mystery around them. I saw an old man get on the bus today with a basket full of flowers. And I was wondering silently, where is the destination of those flowers? To his beloved pet, his children's birthday, loving wife or to a grave of his loved ones who passed away way before than he could. He has a kind soul.
The other day, I saw a middle-aged man holding an empty coffee cup and a very worn out book. I wanted to ask him, is he so deep into the world he is reading that he has forgotten he is carrying an empty cup? Is his house filled with a library of books? or is he a traveler renting books around the city? It's weird how he gives away that he likes thriller books but nothing else.
What am I supposed to do about these intricate details of the strangers I randomly see but will never get to know.

headcanon that bobby is one of those people who cannot go without a dog in the house. it's too lonely and quiet when there isn't one. so every time after one of his dogs passes, he goes to the closest shelter and adopts a big brute of a dog who has the biggest puppy dog eyes and the sweetest heart

Now that I've seen Barbie (2023), I can say with absolute certainty, it is a Christmas movie.
You may be thinking that my claim has no evidence, but there are many other movies that are only tangentially related to the Christmas that are now tied to the holiday. One example is Frozen because it has a lot of snow and ice, but the movie actually takes place in the late summer/autumn season.
Because the setting is in California for Barbie, or a fictional world where is it always the same kind of climate as Southern California, the time of year is not specified. The winters in California look the same as Summer, so it cannot be argued the weather indicates it is summer.
Another aspect that leads to it being a Christmas movie is that it still found a way to incorporate the obligatory snow shot that many holiday films have. Barbie has to travel though the snowy arctic to get between lands. However, because the arctic is snowing heavily, I am led to believe the movie takes place in the winter because it is too warm in a Alaska for snow in the summer.
When the film shows the consequences of Barbie and Reality colliding while Ken is in charge, they explicitly state that his toys are selling really well. This conversations makes more sense by looking at the commercial impact of Christmas. A normal toy has to have a lot of marketing to do well for most of the year, but christmas time is one of the major selling times for toys no matter the brand. These toys had little marketing because of the suddenness of the change in Barbieland, but they still sold well because it was Mattel and parents needed toys for their children.
Additionally, gift giving is a major aspect of the holiday, and characters regularly give each other gifts throughout the film. Barbie gifts her clothes, Ken gifts his mink faux fur jacket, and America Ferrera gives the gift of knowledge to the Barbies.
Lastly, coming together as family is a huge aspect of Christmas, which this film also incorporated through the mother daughter relationship of America and Sasha. They were able to regain their relationship as the film progressed, and they even included Barbie into their family by the end. The film even ends with a scene of the three of them plus the step-dad in the car being a happy family.
So in conclusion, Barbie (2023) is a Christmas movie!

you are hecka sweet tbh!!! hello i am here for Captive Prince thoughts. pls share
hello lovely, thank you soo much.
first of all your analyzing of nicase and aimeric had me fucking shook bc hello went right over my head, now i have to read again having that in mind.
second, i personally think that Laurent had let himself fall in love with Damen way sooner then the first time they had sex in Princes Gambit. I think that the whole ordeal that happened between them before kings rising was laurent creating a kind of mock/role reversal relationship with damen, his older self representing his uncle and damen representing laurent's younger self. I mean laurent had the upper hand on damen the whole time knowing his identity being able to manipulate him, the same way the regent took advantage of laurent's age (but also his identity him being the crown prince once his brother died and the regent playing to that). also when they have sex laurent is very demanding the first time (and i mean think about his only experience being with his uncle, only knowing anything from having been forced with him) he also hesitates to please himself the first time, damen having to coax him and i feel like this is a manipulation thing especially with pedophilia... and then after they have sex the first time the illusion dissipates... Damen identity revealed and laurent having almost come close to death bc of his uncle.. Laurent goes back to the way he was in captive prince (OR HE TRIES TO) because even though he finally did have sex with damen, he still cant come to terms with his uncle or what he did to him. i hope this makes sense. i got so excited and idk how to put my thoughts into words.. idk if you can tell, but i miss seminar class lol

And often, if I were ever to question what is happening in my life, I'd just go on terrace, feel the wind caressing my body, I hear it sing to me, "You know you're so much like me, you want to feel everything, you don't wanna limit yourself, and like me, you'll always find an open sky, no limits, no regrets, and these happenings in your life are to make you yourself, just so that you could always find me touching you, singing to you, and you will keep on realizing things."

Does it take such dire situation to make love last? One has to grow up in an abusive household and other to be homeless? is this the secret behind lasting love? Maybe I’m being naive or maybe I have cracked the code. I mean lets be honest, most of us don’t like easy love. It becomes boring or the sparks die they say. But when the whole world is hell bent on pulling you both apart, you hold onto them. Isn’t the world so goddamn unfair? Some throw easy love out, others die searching for something that is so utterly pure. They say love lasts forever but if you think about it then, forever isn’t actually forever. Its just another 30-40 years of life (depending on whenever you find love of your life and when you die) But don’t you think if love was as easy as water in the ocean, we’d waste it just the same. And there goes the circle, you’re back to why love is so rare in this world and I’m back to the same thought, wondering silently every night. “Why is love so easy to give and yet so hard to get back?”
