Part Two of my writing prompt story!
When Isabelle and I first met, it felt like I could do anything, as long as she was near. When I first looked at her, I noticed several things: her hair was very poofy and bounced when she laughed, she wore bold red lipstick (a blood red, not the bright red that a middle aged receptionist wears to call herself fun), and as she walked over she laughed. It was a big, light up the room laugh. She was enchanting.
“Can I buy you a drink?” Isabelle smirked as she approached the bar.
I half scoffed, half laughed, “you’re very forward”
“I’ll buy her another, and I’ll have one myself” She was now addressing the bartender, “and another round for everyone on me”
She then turned back to me, and I could notice more things. Her very tight black shirt, matte not glossy, her baggy jeans, also black. But her very poofy hair was even more hypnotising up close.
“What’s the occasion?” I asked as the bartender slid another mojito my way.
“My dad just died,” She smiled.
I choked on my newly bought mojito and managed to cough out a, “Sorry for your loss.”
“I’m not” She laughed, and again her hair bounced, “do you wanna dance?”
6 years later and I’m sobbing into a far-too-fancy couch to soak up my tears.
I sniffled and checked the time: 8:41.
I feel tempted to scream until my throat is red-raw but I have things to do and unfortunate places to be.
I managed to land a job interview at 9:30 this morning, for a psychologist job.
“That’s good news!” Marie beamed when I told her.
I’m honestly too tired to tell if it’s genuine happiness or an act because I am now pathetic. I am also: overly jetlagged, heartbroken, and now very insecure about the bad dye job I impulsively decided to do.
So, I’ve no time to analyse Marie.
Am I prepared for this? I always default to this question. “Am I prepared for this?” Was something I asked myself before schlepping coffee to pay for a psych degree, it was also something I asked when I moved out, it was again something I asked myself when I got engaged.
I find it rarely helps. I’m going to have to go to this interview anyway, and I’m going to have to figure out how not to look like an unprofessional lunatic with patchy hair.
I shove my box-dyed monstrosity in a bun and claw clip and convince myself that it’s fine.
It’s going to have to do anyway because I need to go.
I’ve always hated living out of suitcases. I had to do it for about a month before we got a house in Spain. I had to do it when I was 11 and my parents moved. And now, I am digging through this stupid suitcase trying to find my green blouse and navy pants.
I swear I’d packed them near the top because I’d need them sooner. Which brings me to my absolute hatred for living out of suitcases - you have to plan! Plan for the weather, if it’s hot put coats down the bottom. And I am not a planner. I’ve found the pants, thank god or anyone else who knew I needed to find them. And so all I have to rely on is the ability to scan for my perfect, professional, pressed, sage green blouse.
9:13
I really need to go, so now I’m digging as fast as I can through these 2 suitcases until I find it. In a glimpse of what has to be millions of different black and white and blue socks, there it is. A satin, sage green blouse, no longer pressed or perfect but professional enough for someone who has given up.
Note: This does not yet have a title but I will 100% accept any ideas!

The Way Smell Evokes Memory
On a hot summer afternoon, after a day of playing in the sun but before retiring to play video games, my mother would always shower. She loved spending time with us on those rare free days when all five of her girls were home, and she wasn’t working one of many jobs she held down simultaneously to provide. Our job was to set the living room up, since she didn’t understand and wasn’t willing to learn how to work the equipment. She would emerge in a puff of steam and a waft of perfume. Unwilling to wear shorts outside, those days she was even willing to don a light summer nightdress. We each peeled off at different times in the night, smart enough and independent enough to dictate our own bedtimes. With a yawn, I’d announce my departure. My mother was never short on hugs, pulling me in and holding me, understanding of the importance of that contact. Rich vanilla and rose and a creamy, heavy shea butter: the last things I’d smell for the night.
When riffling through the cabinet before moving out, I discovered the exact lotion she would use. Her ‘yes’ when I asked to take it was distracted, unaware of the significance. Although, I don’t use it much.

Material Experimentation: Transparent Transfer Paper Part 1
Aka how many different times can i fold and glue different pieces of fuckin paper
Interview Research
Before fucking around with any paper I interviewed some of my classmates about what they think about it.
Notes from wolf about experimentation:
Result not research, how can you work on the material itself, without the influence of other materials itself
Not focused on a certain image, focused on the research itself. Not to make something, but to explore it. New ways of using the material.
Aliases: Transfer paper, Colored Vellum, Calc Paper
Charlie: has used baking sheets and tracing paper sheets but the same type of thing
1.What did you use it for?
 Transferring sketches to nicer paper.
2.Would you use it again?
No because his final work is usually bigger than his originalpieces
3.What do you think about transparent things?
They're cool, the variety in opaqueness, hiding things in the layers
4.What's a daily use of transparent paper?
Paper for checks, which is not transparent but it is transfer paper.
Baking paper.
Traditional Animation
5.How would an animal use transparent paper?
It would rip it up, maybe eat it and build a transparent nest with it. Some animals try to go through it, maybe if it was transparent enough.
Anastasia:
used it on a projector, to project an image on the wall
2.Yes sure, you can do a lot of things with them, it makes life easier.
3. Some of the like, but depends on the object, like transparent bags are not it.
4. Good for transferring text and transferring writing, and baking. Have a transparent notebook? Rolling papers since it’s transparent
5. Probably eat it. Give it to a cat, they would just play with it. Monkey would do something more interesting.
Luisa:
1.Used before, to transfer, never focused on it to see what can be done
2. Yes
3. Challenging, no color to base on. With art works, it could be too neutral, and needs more. Transparent boots are a no.
4. Art class, not very existing
5. Eating it, smell it first, then probably throw it away because it’s an unknown thing
Wolf:
Yes, to make kites, kite paper, very light and semi transparent, turns more transparent with lacquer, what can make it more transparent? Like grease and oil
Depends, if i need it i'll use it, but not interested in paper that much. Only if necessary. Stain glass windows in primary school
As material, interest in it, that you can divide different spaces but you still have a connection with the other side, like a window. Contact with the outside visually yet we are totally separated like sound and weather.
Envelopes with a transparent window
Depends on the size of the paper. If it’s confetti, ants pick it up after the feast. Birds naturally pick up random trash, that bird would have used it for the nest because they adapt to the circumstance of a city.
Now lets get back to entering the question, how many different ways can I fuck with paper
Plain Folding and Crumpling
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cutting and putting back together with tape, which gave it a fabric like property. Very cool but took so damn long
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Putting together the thinner paper, gluing it in layers to make it ironically less transparent

Curling with scisors

Amelie
In a cinderblock bathroom an hour’s bus ride out of the inner-city, there’s a full-length aluminum mirror hanging by two screws. Unrelenting rain pounded on the roof as a girl, twelve, peered into it. Her arms shook, weak from the exhaustion of pulling her way up cliffs. Amelie was on a hiking field trip with her quirky charter school, who believed that traipsing through forests during a spring rain storm was more of a teacher than a chalkboard. The laces of her only pair of tennis shoes lay untied, dripping with mud, but her fingers had grown too icy in the rain to tie them up again. The hem of her jeans was torn where another student had stepped on it while Amelie helped them up a ledge. Her only jacket was dripping onto the floor and torn in several places from burrs and the scrapes of passing sticks. Luckily, Amelie’s shirt was unharmed, but was too flimsy to stop the creep of cold from chilling her to the bone. Her stringy curls would certainly take hours to untangle. Amelie shivered, and looked into her own eyes. Truly the star of the entire appearance was Amelie’s wide grin and the bright, wild look in her eyes that only true adventure could bring.
Forever Writing,
quill rose

Fictober 21 Day 5:
Prompt: "I'm not saying I told you so."
From:  "Fallen Angel Red"
(Original piece)
TW: Mention of Deity, forgiveness.
(Forgot to post this on the 5th so here it is)
////
"Kaayy~"
Red sounded the name out, to get a better sense of the pronunciation.
"Pronounced 'K-a-y', spelt K-a-i, is that correct?"
"You catch on quick."
Kai said dryly, sitting down on his couch. (Though he didn't let on that he was pleased that she'd gotten it right.)
Red remained standing, her stoic expression giving off an aura of constant and unnerving calmness, as always.
Kai, on the other hand, was trying to get over the fact that he actually had a guest in his home for the first time and hid his happiness with a wry comment.
"So why are you here, 'Angel' Red; have I been forgiven by the highest?"
Actions muted as always, Red shook her head.
"No, I came across you by complete coincidence. I noticed that you weren't human, like me, so I asked you a question."
"...I see."
Kai locked eyes with Red to try and guess what she was feeling; but looking for too long sent goosebumps running up his spine. He rubbed the back of his neck with his hand.
"And why were you hanging out around there anyway?" He continued.
"I wanted to see the comeuppance of a crooked detective on the laundrette's television; but it would be rude to go in without laundry."
Kai raised an eyebrow; stood up from his chair and grabbed the remote for his television set.
"You know that if you use one of these, you can choose what you want to watch on, well, just about any television, really."
"... Where are these purchased? I do not wish to deprive you of yours."
Kai paused; realising she was serious and sat back down, dumping the remote on a couch cushion.
"You're a strange creature, eh, Red?"
A smirk formed around Red's lips.
"And what sort of creature are you, Kai spelt with an 'I'?"
There was a heavy silence. Kai's eyes burned with the same hollow sadness that he had recongised in the now named Seraph.
"I'm a Demon." He answered.
Another pause followed before Red spoke again.
"Can you really watch that television programme on any set?"
Kai clicked his own set on and after a brief moment of channel surfing, located the show that had hooked Red's attention.
"I'm not saying I told you so, buuuut-"
Red's eyes were glued to the screen and she smiled.
"Thank you, Kai."
He smiled.
"Sure thing, Red."
