she doesn’t ask for an invitation. she kinda figures, if anything, the fact that she can still feel the score of rebekah mikaelson’s nails in her skin and the sear of her kiss means that she doesn’t need one. except, they’re not talking about it. she’s not thinking about it. ( and when she does, she finds new ways to distract herself. ) and she’s sure as hell not looking for an excuse to linger around in the hopes that they’ll run into one another again. which is definitely not why she’s currently rifling through the expansive ( and expensive ) collection of rebekah’s hair products. caroline doesn’t look up when she hears the original step in, barely glances over her shoulder as she sets a bottle of product to the side before grabbing another,  ❝ what’s that thing you use in your hair? ❞  she leaves off the end of the sentence. the one that smells so good? that’s still semi-lingering on her pillow. that she swears to god makes her want to do something disgustingly cliche like bury her nose in it and inhale.          /          @originalvampire​   +   sorry this is late !

Even though Kennett was never intended to happen and it’s just a crackship the fandom saw potential and chemistry in. I think it says a lot how adamant Plec was about shutting it down. And why the writers didn’t take an opportunity that was staring at them in the face. While I’m against writers giving into loud demanding fans, Kennett is one of those instances where it would’ve worked and not felt fan-service-y. Because ships like Klaroline and Mabekah were happening and they’re essentially the same thing as Kennett as far as the “OriginalVampire/MFG character” dynamic is concerned. Funny how the writers were able to wiggle Matt into the Mikaelson’s ball. And make changes to Klaus and have him invite Caroline. But Kol being interested in meeting a Bennett witch was a ridiculous concept. When it would’ve not required the writers doing any kind of OOC stuff. It would’ve felt very natural and not contrived at all if Kol extended an invitation to Bonnie. Or hell at least Esther inviting her and then Kol later taking that opportunity to meet, seduce and align himself with Bonnie.

Either way the point is the writers manufactured the hell out of Klaroline. But yet Bonnie being a witch and Kol being canonically a person that “holds witches in high regard” would’ve made Kennett feel less random and less manufactured.

And is it me. Or did that line in season 4 where Bonnie tells Kol “sometimes we don’t get what we want” felt like little shade towards the fans? Cause that was yet another perfect opportunity to have some Kennett adventures. And that teamup on the other side would’ve felt very organic. There was no reason in the world why Bonnie wouldn’t want to team up with Kol (even if it’s just using him for info) and come back to life. But of course the writers squandered it.

Everything you said here was pretty much the argument for Kennett in season 3, the Kennett manifesto so to speak. I'm nearly certain that Kol "holding witches in high regard" isn't something he says until season 4, and Julie probably got that idea from Kennett fanon. Klaroline and Mabekah are both manufactured ships, so that Caroline and Matt can get involved in the main plot with the Originals. Without these ships, those 2 are only relevant via their connection with Tyler and Elena.

But Bonnie already had a direct connection with the Originals. So Kennett would have evolved from that connection. This is what happens with Kolvina in The Originals TV Show - Davina already had her feud with Klaus and his family. Kol enters that story to exploit that feud, and ends up falling for her.

And is it me. Or did that line in season 4 where Bonnie tells Kol “sometimes we don’t get what we want” felt like little shade towards the fans?

I never thought of it until now, but now that I do, I think so, too. Just like Kol telling Davina in TO Season 5 that she was "gorgeous and powerful" is shade towards Bonnie being too "beautiful and strong" for Kennett.

So much wasted opportunity for the show.
