Cyberpunk Orion is gonna have to fill in for some big shoes story wise. I’m gonna miss my chooms from 2077….unless we play as V again and the story continues Mass Effect style.

And if V’s story really does end, it should end with them going back to the “birthplace” of their life paths. Like Corpo V goes into a dilapidated Arasaka building, Street Kid V heads back to their neighborhood and Nomad V either ends up driving off with the Aldecaldos or alone like last time.

as this list shows - I'm not young, and I started out with PC gaming, where truly my love for gaming was built. It was hard to pick 10 games - for being a "gamer" I don't actually play a lot of games, and there's only a few games that really stick out as truly noteworthy over time to me. Criteria is muddled - games that are great, games that are fun, games that defined a moment for me. Yes, there's a certain amount of nostalgia too here. I've by internal logic excluded text-based IFs from considerations.

Civilization

I refuse to pick one, but I'll probably go with IV if I had to, just because of the music and I think it's where they introduced cultural victory. Civilization was the first video game I brought with my own money, and yes that's an old pic of all the boxes (I don't have the Civ I box 😭but I still have the disks and manual). I also have Civ VI, but no new pic. Civilization is genre defining, a PC gaming defining game - there is no other game like it.

2. Diablo II

I played so much Diablo II - it was such a fun game full of fun gameplay. It was also the first game I truly played online - meeting new and wonderful friends and got embroiled on online drama! Diablo II was just sheer fun, from the builds to the loot to the secret cow level. The cut scenes were phenomenal, the one above is still one of my favorites of all time - the shattering of the world stone. Tyrael was possible my first video game crush, yeah just the wings and voice, don't @ me

3. Warcraft III

I played so much Warcraft III. The gameplay was fantastic, just a great RTS. It had humor, but also possibly the most heartwrecking storyline I've played - the fact you get to play out Arthas decent into evil was a stroke of gameplay and storytelling genious. Coupled with this era of Blizzard's cinematic department, the hands down best cut scene ever. This remains a top game for me.

4. Mass Effect

What can I say? Mass Effect is fun to play, has a pretty great and well written story - it's one of a kind to be honest. I don't do shooters, but I do do Mass Effect.

5. Pharaoh

I love city building and this was the best one. IS the best one, as this is remastered on steam. I'm currently playing this, and this is from the other night. I love this! pyramids! logistics! production! bright colors!

6. Dragon Age Inquistion

would be weird if I didn't include this one, right? I love the game and I love all the stuff that lives in my brain because of it. Also I do think the combat is fun? I think mechanics and environment wise it's also the best of Dragon Age.

7. Assassin's Creed Odyssey

I had a hard time picking between II (best boy Ezio, Desmond), Origins (pyramids! BAYEK and AYA, the mature story!!) and Odyssey - in the end I think Odyssey won because of the feel of AC - assassin, the vast explorations, the many quests, and ofc yelling in DMs over lost love. Not to forget - clop, clop, clop, the fake minotaur quest.

8. Jedi: Fallen Order

Look, I don't like platformers or difficult combat, but story mode hit the spot, and the story was SO good. Cal Kestis is my son in my heart, the story and his character touched me.

9. World of Warcraft

well, the sheer amount of time and investment I put into this game count for something. At some point it seemed like half the world played it, for good reason. I don't think I can go back, but WoW was the first MMO I truly enjoyed, and I love the art style so much. and I got to turn into a demon for massive damage, and endlessly frustrate my healer. Infinite mana, baby, just heal me

10. Master of Orion II

another old 4x game, this just hit the spot somehow.

other contenders: Geometry War Retro Evolved, Tetris, the MasterMind game my dad coded himself and we had a vicious family competition for the leaderboard, Settlers III, Heros of Might and Magic (but I don't recall which version I loved the most), and Warlords (the original DOS game)

I saw the thing about sending you worldbuilding so you can comment on it, so I want to share a thing with you.

So in my worldbuilding every person has access to a standard anime magical system, colored energy causing effects and the like, but the important thing to me is making sure all materials in my world interact with this Energy in an interesting way.

First and foremost is water, which is the most effective way to store it by weight, but is really hard to extract from at high speeds. The primary material used to draw Energy out of water is pearls, which is why a bunch of aquatic creatures either grow them or steal them from crabs. Water that is over saturated with Energy turns into steam basically instantly, regardless of its temperature.

Anyways the next important thing is the concept of a medium. Basically any large mass of consistent material is classified as a medium, IE: the sky, the ocean, an individual lake, a mountain. This is important since a medium can still be connected even when separated physically. Because of this, a common part of any water battery is a separate tank which is connected by medium, and which leeches Energy out of the main tank when it is over saturated. Essentially large scale capacitors.

The actual worldbuilding thing I wanted to get to is the fact that the ocean is itself a single huge body of water, so theoretically it could be over saturated with Energy, dooming nearly everybody on the world.

To counteract this, at one point a giant terminal was built into the ocean in the shape of a giant sword, this terminal draws enormous quantities of Energy out of the water and uses it up to power a spatial distortion effect which waxes and wanes roughly in accordance with the seasons, making a huge portion of the ocean 5 times as big or as small for months on end.

A cool detail: the spatial distortion is propagated through the previously mentioned mediums, Air and Water, as such, the distortion of space does not effect subjects like people, nor objects like boats.

Sorry if this is too much information, nothing in my world can be explained without like three paragraphs of explanation and defining terms.

I think it's really interesting and just this information leads me to believe that this is a fantasy setting. The thing with water that I wonder is the difference between saltwater and freshwater. Something I also wonder about it fracking water: AKA water mixed with sand to chip away at stone and the such. I know it may not be practical in your strain of worldbuilding but to me it seems that it may be interesting to consider salt as a type of medium. Therefore salt water as a mixed medium.

Something that could also play into your energy is erosion. I think it would be really cool to explain the reasons for air eating at a mountain in a magical way and the such. Also are your seasons a result of all this energy or are they naturally occurring? There's so much you can play with!

Speaking of things to play with; Something more I want to touch on with your terminal of distortion is how does it interact with the moon? Is your moon a medium? Maybe it's a black hole of energy with it practically being a pearl looking object in the sky. If it's something magical maybe

I really like the distortion detail, I think it's really fun! It makes me wonder if other things in your system can also be distorted, such as light, or gravity? I don't know, it could offer some fun opportunities.

I don't have much more to ramble about unfortunately, but I'd love to know more! >U< I wanna know what other world builders think!

EVENT : spring punishment

It’s been a very strange week, even by island standards. For days, it has felt more like a prison than a school. Slaves showering in awkward silence under the watchful eyes of several guards; students paddled publicly in the quad for minor missteps; and everyone, everywhere, wondering: will someone come forward?

Friday passes with no fanfare, and then, on Saturday morning...

Slaves are awoken long before dawn by guards shouting and banging on the cell doors. They’re dragged unceremoniously from their cells and forced into chains; claimed slaves, too, are removed from their homes, with or without their master’s consent--and they’re not the only ones. The administration is taking action against masters, too--or at least against all those masters who have shown themselves to be too sympathetic to the slaves plight. In the wee hours of the morning, masters who do not meet The Institute’s standards have been dragged out of their suites and homes, chained, and, in the case of supernaturals, bound.

It seems no one came forward to take ownership of the sabotaged lottery--and now much of the island will pay the price. 

DETAILS:

A mass punishment will take place over Saturday, April 22nd and Sunday, April 23. 

All slaves (claimed and otherwise) and all masters the administration considers too soft have been separated into two groups. Group A will be punished on Saturday; Group B will be punished on Sunday. The group lists can be found under the cut.

The group being punished will be stripped naked except for blindfolds and earplugs, and chained spread eagle around the quad. Guards patrolling the quad will be equipped with whips, paddles, and floggers, and instructed to deliver punishment at regular intervals. 

Those masters who do meet The Institute’s standards are invited to visit, punish, and play with them as they please. Masters may remove the blindfold or earplugs if they wish, but both should be returned when they’re finished, to allow future visitors their anonymity.

Those being punished will receive a single ten minute break to use the facilities and drink water. Breaks will be staggered so the quad is never empty. They will not be fed.

Group A will be held in the cells overnight and when they are not being punished; Group B will be held in the ballroom. Those being punished are welcome to thread with the other members of the group on their ‘off’ days.

OOC INFO:

In game, this mass punishment will take place over Saturday and Sunday, April 22-23.

The event will last from Friday, April 21, 10:15pm EST, through Sunday, April 30, 11:59pm EST, out of game.

The dash WILL be paused for the duration of the event. Non-event threads should NOT be posted.

generally speaking wren is very comfortable in her own skin. how she looks is rarely something that crosses her mind in her daily life, unless it’s relevant to a mission (she’s done a lot of shit where she’s had to dress the part to gain her team access wherever and if she has to put on a revealing dress and flirt her way around she is very good at it and she knows it, much as she dislikes those kinda missions). it’s probably a running joke with her crew that she’ll only put on a dress if it’s work-related and she has to; she also will if there’s a dress code (she’s very conscious of social rules outside the military), even if everyone, including herself, knows she looks gorgeous doing it. but her being more comfortable in more casual civvies has nothing to do with body insecurity and everything to do with how it’s just a hassle and why wear uncomfortable heels when she can go around in sneakers? even when she’s on shore leave and looking to hook up, her dressing up for fun will still more likely be pants rather than a skirt.

i digress!

but yes, she quite likes her body, generally. she’s fairly tall, has an athletic build, is pretty muscular (over a decade of military history & she works out to blow off steam), and she’s happy with all of the above for herself.

the next paragraph has some big spoilers for you, orion, so don’t read if you want to play the games without knowing things! for anyone else reading this, yes, i warned them in private on discord already & wouldn’t be answering in a spoilery manner for someone who specifically wants to avoid spoilers without their consent. (that said if you’re someone who does want to avoid mass effect spoilers, you need to mute my muse tags for both shepard and garrus! i don’t usually warn when posting!)

about her scars: before her death, the scars she has from the job, from her childhood, from akuze, etc. she has no insecurities about. she carries them proudly, if anything, and always has. but after cerberus & project lazarus? she might not have minded the new scars from being their next science project, if it were not for the fact that her old scars were erased. how upset she is waking up without her old scars (and tattoos!) demands a separate post, but that she’s lost all of her history on her skin yet she now has new scars, has cybernetics she never consented to having, yeah, prior to chakwas being able to help heal up her skin, she hates looking in a mirror. it’s a reminder of something having been taken from her (her old scars) and of having been practically experimented on what with the glow of the cybernetics through the scarring as well. even after she has her skin mended, it takes her time to feel like her body is truly hers, with how much of it cerberus plain rebuilt.
